Added to the thread. Thank you!

I'm having my lift installed by Kendall Toyota of Bend in July. I'll post before and after photos and relevant pricing information here when done!

You’re lucky to live near Kendall Toyota. I’ve checked out their JOR Lift YouTube videos. Looks like they have the process ironed out.

Following. Thanks for creating this thread. Perhaps one of the mods could pin it to the top? For those that installed the lift, what is the max HEIGHT tire that would fit a 2" lift with room for cables (not chains)?

www.journeysoffroad.com

I installed the 3" on my 2022 Woodland. Photos are shown at this link: Air Bag suspension kit for 2022 XLE AWD?

Factory wheels- Removed chrome hubcaps using 2-3’ construction pry bars. Black Aluminum wheels under chrome hubcaps Eco hitch Wilco off-road hitch swing out ALL modifications and upgrades were performed by myself. If you have a little mechanical background and take your time and don’t get frustrated easily, the parts install very straightforward. Did not notice any difference in mileage drop, due in part to the tires that were installed being an XL rated. The XL stands for extra load, so it is a slight bit stiffer than the sponge factory tires therefore less roll resistance. No body roll with my set up, it drives like a sports car on mountain roads and that’s no joke. I take corners hard at times and forget my shepherds are in the midsection of my van, and when I realize I’m going into the corner, too hot and look back, my shepherds, are up against the door with that what the hell look on their face🤦‍♂️.

Would love more details on how you removed the glued on caps and close ups of the wheels underneath?

You need at minimum (1) 3’ pry bar Home Depot. You will have to place something plastic ( Scraper in paint Dept. between the tire & lip of wheel to slide the pry bar in a little at a time. As you pry, start rotating around whole hubcap to loosen. The industrial grade adhesive holding the chrome hubcaps is insane. You may think you’re doing a CrossFit workout on the removal work🤷‍♂️🤣🤣. I have other project Toyotas as well therefore I am in no rush to track the necessary info as to how much heat I can apply with a heat gun for adhesive removal. I have been told by onlookers that the adhesive on the wheels gives it an off-road look🤷‍♂️.

@RCP2013 - thank you for the pics. Th wheels on our '21 Platinum are my biggest pet peeve. I am on the fence with how the adhesive looks, and if you ever try to remove the adhesive - I would want to hear your thoughts on how it went.

I will probably try and contact a few Powdercoat companies and we’ll companies as well to try to determine how much heat I can apply here soon maybe in the next few weeks. With the lift, I was able to go up one size on the tires. The tires I got are a game changer, they are the Nitto nomad Grappler. These tires initially were designed to put on the adventure versions of the Subarus. No road noise from these tires a little stiffer side wall so reduced body roll and on the road or on trails they are pretty phenomenal I have to say.

@admin or @fibber2 - any chance we can get the above airbag-related posts (from pp. 1-2 of this thread) removed from this thread and consolidated into one of the 4th Gen Sienna helper airbag related threads? This is great and very helpful content that would prove to be extremely useful for someone planning/researching an airbag install into a 4th Gen; however, despite its value, this content is a bit off topic for this specific thread discussing JOR 4th Gen Sienna lift kits. Just a thought that I think would help to structure the 4th Gen vehicle modification content on this forum.

I can't tonight, but let me look at it later in the week.

@yonah I gave this some thought, but don't see a compelling reason to strip the airbag content. I did, however, copy the Firestone airbag-related posts from here to this thread ( 2021 Sienna LE FWD with helper bags / air springs installed ) for cross-reference. As per the above discussion, there is an interest in exploring and possibly applying combination techniques, and there is certainly enough interest in both of these to warrant keeping them as-is. And now that we have linked them, it will remain a great resource for members interested in one or both. There have been other discussions about Journey kits in the past. If you are really worried about structure and flow of discussions keeping it all in one place, we could combine all of these discussions into a brand new tread. Or just leave it as it plays out. I don't believe that anyone will have trouble finding or following your content. Thanks for your interest and assistance to the community.

Any feedback on whether upgrading from LE 17's to 18's would help much with a tighter ride? Im thinking of plus-sizing the tires and afraid the JOR lift + taller sidewall would add too much body roll.

No added sway or delayed response in handling with the lift and the size tires on my stock 18 inch wheels that came with my van. Notice they are an XL load rated. With the listed tires, my van is much more responsive and my German shepherds, that ride in the midsection can attest to that on mountain road driving🤷‍♂️😳🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I do a long commute for work, almost 6 hours from Southern California to the bay area twice a month. I generally run between 75 to 85 mph and my mileage in the 80s is an about the 27 to 28 range. Driving 65 to 70 with two German shepherds, and the general things that are in the back of my van, see attached pic, I get in the 34 to 36 mpg range. What is the load rating on sidewall of model you are looking at? P-load, XL-load, C, D, E? I am going to run the Falkens on my first GEN crew, cab, 4 x 4 tundra, but I did not see the size I was looking for with the exact load I preferred for the sienna.

Automotive tail & brake light Car Vehicle registration plate Vehicle Automotive lighting

SL for the Falkens. The AT3W's are XL but a few lbs heavier. Not sure what size to go with if I stick with 17s.. 235/70/17 would be the logical choice, 1" taller that stock but Falken nor Nitto's are available in that size.

When I was doing my research and narrowed it down to the Nitto Nomad Grappler, I felt that America’s tire had the best pricing with more than enough selection. I just did a quick search on that size you have listed 235/70/17, I saw several decent choices in the XL load rating with great mileage warranty. I would’ve preferred 17 inch with minimum one size taller profile for my tires to give me that added cushion when I am on trails but I am happy with the set up I have as well.

I am also interested in the 3" lift kit. Just talked with Kendall Toyota, and a tech told me that SOME Siennas develop a slight shimmy in the steering wheel as a result of this lift. He said it is not fixable. Anybody experienced this ? Any info / thoughts appreciated.

On my 2022 limited all wheel drive hybrid, I had to replace the linkage a due to knocking profusely. The knocking started after putting about 7000 miles on the van post lift. It would get so loud. It sounded like the suspension was going to come apart while driving. When I contacted journeys off road, which took several calls, because they did not reply to my message, they claimed they were unaware of any issues? I ordered my replacement linkage directly from Moog and I no longer have the knocking that I had with the originals that came with the kit.

@yonah - thank you for sharing that. It would be very helpful to find out the difference between the shaft angle with the 2" and 3" lifts, as opposed to the original OEM angle. Will look more into this. Even though the CV axle replacement is nothing major ...

@RCP2013 - Please share what lift did you get (2" or 3"), how many miles with the lift, etc. I understand you are also going offroad with the Sienna, how is it behaving (with the lift) ? Thanks !

I went with the journeys, off-road 3 inch lift Fire stone airbags in the rear springs-fire stone does not make airbags for my 2022 limited all-wheel-drive hybrid. I sent them detailed pictures when I was able to get the airbags to work without any butchering of my vehicle. All those pictures are listed on this website because I shared them here as well. I also have sumo spring bushings in the front springs to eliminate some of the SAG in the vehicle as well. I also went with Nitto nomad grappler tires the XL load range. I was able to go up one size taller than the stock tires that came on my van. The tires equally make as much of a difference with regard to handling on and off road. I posted on here the other day when somebody started a discussion about problems with the journey’s off-road lift. I posted my linkage that came with the lift started knocking on both sides at about 3500 miles or so. I contacted Moog direct and got replacement linkage and I put several miles on my van now with no more noise whatsoever. My van sits just as high as a Subaru, if not higher and handles nicely on trails and on the highway.

Awesome, thank you RCP2013 !!!

You’re welcome!

@RCP2013 - just so I clear my head from misunderstanding: you have an AWD 2022 Sienna ? you bought sumo coils/spacers for the FWD 2022 Sienna front suspension, and installed them in the rear ? Or in the front ? Thanks ! -- Sorry if I missed this info from other threads, I am reading a lot about this and might have mixed some details.

@RCP2013 - Thank you for clarifying that. I was looking for rear Sumo coils for an AWD LE . I have very good experience with Sumo Springs on a 4Runner, excellent product. I hope they make it for Sienna as well - they replace the factory bump stops, byt are longer and actually sit on the axles and act as a double-up spring. Very efficient and simple - no mainenance.

A recommendation if I may- I would put the sumo spacers in the front and Fire stone airbags in the rear. It’s not only going to help you in general at keeping the vehicle level and not sagging but also in the long run if you plan on keeping the vehicle, it will keep those coil springs in great condition for the long haul.

@RCP2013 - I am planning to go with your recommendation and do the 2" lift + Firestones in the rear. Will talk to Kendall Toyota see what they say, and if they can install them together with the lift. Somebody recommended AirLift airbags, they say they are "better" than Firestones ? Don't know much about this brand ...

Installing the bags during the lift install makes sense. Will probably add an hour or so to your bill. I chose the Firestone bags as I like the countersunk/recessed push-fit air fitting that is vulcanized into the top of the bag. The Airlift bags have a nipple that protrudes out of the top of the bag and their supplied air line slides over it. Seems vulnerable, IMO, but that’s just me. I like push-fittings. If you seat the airline well into the fitting, you’ll have no issues. Push-fittings are very popular in the pneumatic industry for this reason.

@yonah -- thank you, that makes sense, ordered Firestones.

Best Off-Road Pickup Trucks for 2024

Whether you're looking for a compact, mid-size, or full-size pickup for off-roading, here are a dozen of the finest factory specials for rolling in the dirt.

2021 ram 1500 trx and 2020 ford f 150 raptor

Where there once was only the Ford F-150 Raptor and Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro, there are now several factory off-road trims on the market. We've gathered a dozen pickups we've recently run through our instrumented testing and reviewed on- and off-road. At such high prices, these shiny pickups probably won't be bashing rocks right off the bat. But from small to huge, they are the best off-road-ready 4x4 pickup trucks you can buy right off the showroom floor.

Compact: Ford Maverick Tremor

2023 ford maverick tremor

Base Price: $39,945

While a little Maverick won't make anyone tremble, the Tremor trim is viable as a light off-roader. The package includes retuned springs and special dampers, along with a mechanically torque-vectoring rear axle and an 1-inch suspension lift. The turbo-four has 277 pound-feet of torque, and Falken Wildpeak all-terrain tires are standard. It's one stability control off switch away from a rally car . But ground clearance stands tall at 9.4 inches, plus the redesigned front bumper and skid plate allow a generous 30.7 degree approach angle, which is more than a huge off-roader like the Ram 2500 Rebel. On pavement, the Tremor's unibody frame and eager handling prove that small can be better. That's why it's been on our 10Best Trucks list for two years running.

Mid-Size: Ford Ranger Raptor

2024 ford ranger raptor

Base Price: $57,065

Now that we finally get the Ranger the rest of the world enjoyed for years, the Ranger Raptor has stolen our hearts from the Colorado ZR2 and Canyon AT4X. It's also a hell of a deal (some $35,000 cheaper than the Bronco Raptor with which it shares a twin-turbo V-6 engine and four-wheel-drive system). Compared to a standard Ranger, the track is wider, the tires are 33 inches tall, and there are Fox internal bypass shocks and a snorty active exhaust. The fact that it's just as quick as an F-150 Raptor yet easier to drive on narrow trails should make the Ranger Raptor most appealing.

Mid-Size: Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road

2024 toyota tacoma trd off road

Base Price: $43,295

Taco owners are in committed relationships. That's why this rugged Toyota outsells all mid-size pickups every year. But even the beloved Tacoma needs a makeover once a decade, as the fourth-generation TRD Off-Road proved in our tests. The new turbo-four and eight-speed automatic transmission are peppier than the old V-6 with its laborious six-speed, especially when passing from 30 to 50 mph. The brakes are stronger (stopping nine feet shorter than a 2017 TRD Pro) and the engine burns less gas. A new TRD Pro will go hard as a turbo hybrid with shock-absorbing seats , but take it from us, now's the time to break up and leave your Taco for a new one.

Mid-Size: Chevrolet Colorado ZR2

2023 chevrolet colorado zr2

Base Price: $48,395

A ZR1 is Chevy-speak for the ultimate Corvette, but ZR2 means a badass truck. When the ZR2 package is applied to Chevy's smallest pickup, it creates the Colorado ZR2 pack mule. The key bits are the Multimatic DSSV dampers, which are an effective way to soften abrupt wheel travel when the ZR2's 33-inch tires come off the mud. It's no quicker than the last ZR2 , and the turbo-four guzzled more and groaned just as loudly as the old V-6, but there's no arguing with 430 pound-feet of torque and a Baja mode that allows for big slides. A fraternal twin, the GMC Canyon AT4X, does the same job with a different front end. Both are available with parts from American Expedition Vehicles that up the ante on the standard 3.0-inch suspension lift.

Mid-Size: Jeep Gladiator Mojave

2024 jeep gladiator mojave

Base Price: $64,890

The Gladiator is the pickup-truck version of the legendary Wrangler, and it's just as old-school as its SUV sibling. Both are updated for 2024, though, with new features including available power front seats and upgraded infotainment. The diesel is gone, leaving the 3.6-liter V-6 as the only engine choice. In our long-term test with a 2020 Mojave , we found the "Desert Rated" badge to be only half true, as the live front axle made it unsettled at higher speeds (and the manual transmission broke after 8400 miles). Jeep has made some meaningful improvements for 2024, including three upfit packages from AEV that offer 37-inch BF Goodrich tires and a 57-degree approach angle. We recently drove the 2024 Gladitor Mojave and appreciated the interior upgrades, though it remains a bit expensive for what it is.

Full-Size: Ram 1500 TRX

2024 ram 1500 trx final edition

Base Price: $98,335

The worst we can say about the Ram 1500 TRX is that it will soon ditch the Hellcat V-8 for a tamer twin-turbo six. 2024 will be the final year of the current model, and it's being sent off with a Final Edition trim . Until the 2025 model arrives, we'll remember what 11 mpg and 702 hp felt like when we had one as a long-term tester . The TRX does everything . As testing director Dave VanderWerp summarized: "It's a Hellcat with a Mercedes S-class–size rear seat and a 3.5-ton truck with a suspension that enables great leaps through the air. Plus, it's still useful as a pickup." We recorded a 60 mph time of 3.7 seconds. We slept over it inside a bed-mounted tent. And one year of fuel cost us more than $16,000.

Full-Size: Ford F-150 Raptor

2024 ford f 150 raptor

Base Price: $80,325

As the original factory dune-hopper, the Ford F-150 Raptor spawned a new class of high-performance pickup trucks and continues in its third generation with an impressive suspension capable of landing jumps and a twin-turbo V-6 with a great-sounding exhaust. The Raptor R shoves a supercharged 720-hp V-8 into the same truck for scary speed and incredible sound. Consider how a three-ton pickup truck with 37-inch tires can shoot to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds. There's only 0.71 g of lateral grip, so tread carefully on the pavement.

Full-Size: Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ZR2

2022 chevrolet silverado 1500 zr2

Base Price: $71,895

While it's not quite a TRX or Raptor, the Silverado 1500 ZR2 is a good time on the trail with Multimatic dampers that give it an uncannily smooth ride. And while it doesn't offer nearly as much power as its competitors, it's nice to have the choice of a torquey diesel engine. The Bison adds five skid plates and steel bumpers from American Expedition Vehicles that improve the approach angle. It's much easier to place on the road than its power-hungry American competitors, which are between 5.4 and 6.8 inches wider, even though the ZR2 towers above the ground with more than 11 inches of clearance. The Sierra 1500 AT4X and AT4X AEV do the same thing as the Silverado but with a different face.

Full-Size: Toyota Tundra TRD Pro

2022 toyota tundra trd pro

Base Price: $73,980

The Tundra doesn't sell in nearly the numbers that the American full-size trucks do, and its off-road trim takes an entirely different route with its twin-turbo V-6 hybrid powertrain. In a recent comparison test, the TRD Pro was very thirsty, with an observed 16 mpg in our test , and the hybrid battery took up precious rear storage under the rear seat. There are bright spots to match the orange paint, though, including a 1.1-inch lift for the front and 2.5-inch FOX Internal Bypass coil-overs with remote reservoirs for the rear. The light bar in the middle of the grille saves the TRD Pro from awful aftermarket accessories, and the power rear window makes the entire cab feel like an open-air Jeep.

Heavy-Duty: Ram 2500HD Power Wagon

2020 ram 2500 power wagon

Base Price: $70,220

Pack a 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 in a heavy-duty Ram 2500 , give it a ridiculous name, and you get the preposterousness of the Power Wagon. It sits 14.2 inches off the ground and can tow more than 10,000 pounds. The soft coil-sprung suspension makes for a better-than-expected ride, though despite all the extra wheel articulation and the body lift, the approach angle is a mere 29.4 degrees due to a plastic aero piece fitted below the bumper. For heavy-duty buyers who want the Cummins diesel, there's the 2500 Rebel with only slightly less capability.

Heavy-Duty: Ford Super Duty Tremor

2023 ford f250 super duty

Base Price: $71,110

Who's got 1200 pound-feet of diesel torque? The Super Duty Tremor does, and despite weighing 8100 pounds this truck shot to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds in our testing and still returned 20 mpg on our highway test. It's not as off-road-capable as the Power Wagon or the Silverado 2500 ZR2, but the Tremor brings 35-inch tires, a locking rear differential, a limited-slip front differential, plus a few skid plates. But more than anything, it's the speed, plushness, and unbelievable pull from the Power Stroke V-8 that makes this Super Duty feel special.

EV: GMC Hummer EV Pickup

2023 gmc hummer ev edition 1 pickup

Base Price: $98,845

The Hummer EV is so heavy that it feels like it could sink itself stuck in deep mud and snow. But if you can take this nearly 10,000-pound truck in areas with solid ground, the 1000-hp Hummer , with three electric motors, is unlike anything even from Rivian or Tesla. Super Cruise hands-free driving, rear-wheel steering that makes tighter turns than an Accord, and fast 350-kW charging make this pickup strangely lithe and livable. Crab Mode is a silly party trick, but the Extreme Off-Road package's 35-inch tires and locking diffs do their intended job. The 58 MPGe rating means it's far less efficient than other EVs, and the massive battery pack means you can still have a $100 fillup in this thing even if you never visit a gas station.

Moscow metro tour: architectural styles of the subway.

journey off road

Duration: 2 hours

Categories: Culture & History, Sightseeing

This metro tour of Russia’s capital and most populous city, Moscow, is your chance to get a unique insight into the beautiful and impressive architecture of the city's underground stations. Admire their marble walls and high ceilings representing Stalin's desire for glory after World War 2, and see first-hand how the interiors change with the rise of new political eras. Your guide will lead you through the complex network, which is one of the most heavily used rapid transit systems worldwide, with over two billion travelers in 2011.

Opened in 1935, Moscow’s underground system, now 190 miles (305 km) long with 185 stations, is today one the largest and most heavily used rapid transit systems in the world. On this Moscow metro tour, discover the impressive architecture of Moscow’s underground stations and learn how they reflect the Soviet era.

Getting around by metro, your local guide will take you through parts of Moscow’s infamous history. Stop at stations built during the time of the USSR (Soviet Union) that are praised as one of the most extravagant architectural projects from Stalin’s time. After World War 2, he was keen on establishing Stalinist architecture to represent his rising regime and a recognized empire. Learn how when his successor started the de-Stalinization of the former Soviet Union in 1953, the extravagancy of the architecture was toned down.

Discover how the unique character of each station reflected several different eras. While stations like Kievskaya and Slavyansky Bulvar have pompous halls and high stucco ceilings brimming with extravagant decorations, those built later, like Volzhskaya, are lightly adorned with sparse furnishings. Architect Alexey Dushkin and painter Alexander Deyneka were just two of the many artists who made these magnificent landmarks possible.

Revel in Moscow's glory days, as well as the years of scarcity, on this fascinating Moscow metro experience. Conclude your tour at one of the central stations in Moscow. If you're lucky, you may even find the secret entrance to the unconfirmed Metro-2, a parallel underground system used by the government -- a mystery which has neither been denied nor confirmed today.

Three advances in pavement technology — for safer, more sustainable roadways

While April showers bring May flowers, these months also kick off road construction season — when cracks and potholes that developed over the winter get fixed. But recent advances could make future roadways safer and repairs more sustainable, thanks to smart pothole monitoring, snail shells and graphene. The new approaches can be found in three papers recently published in ACS journals. Reporters can request free access to these papers by emailing newsroom@acs.org .

A smart pothole monitoring system for cars. By harnessing the vibrations that shake a vehicle as it drives over uneven pavement, researchers have created a system that could monitor and report a road’s health in real time. A demonstration of the technology is published in ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces . In the experiments, a vehicle equipped with the pavement monitoring system identified a pothole and a speed bump while driving around 6 miles per hour and displayed the information on a screen inside the car, which could direct road-fixing efforts faster.

Cooling concrete with snail shells. Researchers developed a powder from snail shells infused with carbon dioxide that can reduce the amount of heat that concrete pavement and roofs absorb from sunlight, as described in ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering . The resulting material was mixed with Portland cement, water and a plasticizer, creating a highly reflective concrete. An outdoor test of the new concrete demonstrated its cooling ability, maintaining a surface temperature up to 10 degrees Fahrenheit lower than standard concrete.

Lighter, stronger concrete without sand. A proof-of-concept study in ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces details how a coal-derived product called coke could replace sand in concrete mixtures. Researchers converted the coke into a fine, graphene powder using an advanced heating process. The new graphene additive along with cement and water formed a concrete that, when cured, was both lighter and stronger than a version made with sand. The team says the new concrete’s properties are suitable for many types of construction.

It ends at the southwestern city of Trier (pictured), once a Roman colony and trading hub known as the “second Rome”. Unsurprisingly it’s rich in architecture, including the 4th-century High Cathedral of St. Peter, the oldest bishop’s church in Germany. It stands above a former emperor’s palace, with the original Roman walls still visible inside. The setting is particularly lovely, with the city arranged by the Moselle River and surrounded by vineyards.

‘It’s been amazing’: 40-pound cat loses more than half his body weight after finding new home

RICHMOND, Va. ( WWBT /Gray News) - It’s been about a year since Patches took social media by storm.

The once hefty 40-plus-pound cat is now living a slimmer and healthier life after being adopted last year.

“When you look at them in the face and they look at you, and you say to yourself I can’t imagine them being anywhere else, it makes me emotional,” said Patches’ owner Kay Ford.

According to Ford, she will never forget when she first met Patches.

“I just feel a very special bond with him,” she said.

Patches was a whopping 42 pounds when Ford adopted him from Richmond Animal Care and Control.

The animal shelter team said he was the most giant cat they’d ever seen.

Ford said she immediately got to work helping Patches lose his extra weight.

“It’s very easy to give into the begging,” Ford said. “But if they know that you’re not going to give in, they stop, or at least Patches is like that.”

These days, Patches looks a little different and Ford’s new lifestyle for him has made a difference.

Patches currently weighs just a little more than 16 pounds.

“He goes up and down the steps,” Ford said. “I really attribute it to his partnership with Wellesley [Ford’s other cat], his connection with Wellesley because that’s a lot.”

But this is not the end of Patches’ weight loss journey.

Ford hopes Patches can drop another 6 pounds through diet, exercise and determination.

“His first goal was to get to 20 pounds,” Ford said. “It’s been amazing. He has consistently lost weight every single week.”

Patches’ weight loss journey has also inspired other pet owners to make their pets a little bit healthier as his social media page has grown to nearly 50,000 followers.
