Welcome to Ecotourism Gujarat

T he state of Gujarat located in the Western part of India occupies a special status for its rich diversity of ecosystems and life forms. Bestowed with mountains, plains, forests, grasslands, wetlands, deserts and a very long coastline, Gujarat is adjudged as a haven for Eco-tourists. The state adorns a special status among Eco-tourists for its per-historic Dinosaur nesting sites in Balasinore, remains of Indus valley civilization at Dholavira and Lothal, heritage and cultural monuments and artifacts.

Over the years, Gujarat has attained a distinct status in the global Ecotourism map for the only remaining habitat for species like the Asiatic Lions and Wild Ass; matchless geographical features in the form of saline deserts of Kutch, the Marine National Park, Aravalli mountain ranges, etc.. The much appreciated avian diversity of Gujarat includes more than 500 species of birds against the total of 1238 species in the country (about 40%). The important bird species in Gujarat are Flamingos, Great Indian Bustard, Lesser Florican, Harriers, Cranes, Pelicans, Storks, Bulbuls, etc.

The List of Eco Tourism Campsites in Gujarat

A comprehensive list of all eco tourism campsites of Gujarat. Previously in this series, I’ve prepared list of

  • List of Hill Stations in Gujarat
  • List of Waterfalls in Gujarat
  • List of Ropeways in Gujarat

Continuing the series, I will list all eco campsites of Gujarat in this article, with photos and adequate information.

Padamdungari Campsite //Campsite near the Dangs

Note: I’ve not been to all the campsites personally. I tried best to gather and provide details as accurately as possible. If you find something wrong here, contact me or drop a comment down.

Update (23-02-2016):  Yesterday, I received an email from Deepak I Mehta, Vadodara. Mr. Mehta has visited most of the campsites listed down. He has provided missing details of many campsites. Updating this article to add them. A huge thank you:)

What Is Eco Tourism & Campsites

Eco tourism is defined as: “Responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people.”

Most of the campsites have some common characteristics:

  • They are far from concrete jungles. In fact, most of them are located deep inside actual jungles. 🙂
  • River nearby
  • Basic Accommodation – Tent and Dormitory
  • Less crowded
  • Peaceful atmosphere. Relaxed ambience. Noise free life.

The eco campsites and nature education sites in Gujarat are generally maintained by EDC – Eco-tourism Development Committee.

Click on each campsites title name for quick summary, location, driving directions, booking information, booking contact numbers and photos.

Click/tap on campsite title for more details.

I’ve created a custom map of all the listed campsites. View It.

Ambapani eco tourism campsite contact no. I want to visit and want to book

Khyati Pandya Avatar

Hey Darpan, I read your post, this has been of great help to plan a weekend getaway with family and friends. Thanks for this.

I also have one question though. All the stay places mentioned here are either run by the government or are held by some private sector. Can you suggest some places where we can camp(Like set up tents, cook, and camp-fire) by ourselves? This will be of great help, thanks in advance.

Darpan Avatar

I have moved to USA a few years back and been out of touch with South Gujarat area.

I’m afraid I don’t have any suggestions for you.

Maybe you can try reaching out to Maa Shabari Resort in Subir.

There’s another resort on the border of Gujarat and Maharashtra, they might allow you to setup something too. I can’t quite recollect its name.

Dear Mr Darpan. How to upload eco camp site pics here if we want to upload???

Hello Mr Patel,

Thanks a lot for showing interest to share your photos.

Right now, there’s no direct way to upload photos here. I will implement that feature.

Generally, when I post photos here, I optimize them by resizing and compressing to give best user experience.

The simplest way is to send photos to me via email or WhatsApp. I will upload them here with full credits to you.

Forgot to add, contact details can be found: here

If anyone can post more informations about Forest Log Hut Saputara please.

for vishal khadi camp site booking phone number is 02640-220330 (Rajpipla forest office)

We visited Vishal khadi eco camp site on 22-23 July 2017. Very nice place…. but few things to be note down for visitors who are interested in night stay… (1) No GEB electricity there…only solar operated small fan and light in the room.. (2) No mobile networks.. (3) Rooms are comparatively nice/ok…. (4) Lots of insects, creatures may come to your room…..huh…. (5) Atmosphere at night is horrible… so always go in group families not single family… But overall experience was good….

Thanks a ton for sharing your experience. It will help a lot. 🙂

Good Info darpan. we have visited Dhanpari eco camp site in February 2017. Recently we visited Vishalkhadi eco camp site.. both are nice places.

Thank you Mr Patel 🙂
