Record prize money of over €15 million across the Legends Tour events

legends tour italian open

The Legends Tour has today announced the schedule for the 2022 season, after two unprecedented years of restriction as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Tour has returned strongly with a minimum of 20 events and record prize funds totalling over €15 million, across a variety of different countries and continents.   The 2022 season comprises the refined Celebrity Series and a number of events in the ‘Alliance’ format, offering amateur golfers the opportunity to compete alongside the Legends of the game – a format unique in sport that gives golf enthusiasts a premium, inside the ropes experience.   The Jersey Legends (10-12 June) is one of the many highlights of the season, returning to the schedule and being played at La Moye Golf Club. It is no stranger to elite competition, having hosted the Acorn Jersey Open in 2016 and is the home club of 1991 Masters winner and Legends Tour player Ian Woosnam.   Elsewhere, the JCB Championship (29-31 July) at JCB Golf & Country Club in Uttoxeter, England is a new exciting addition to the calendar. The event will see a total prize fund of £600,000 and will be hosted by Ryder Cup and European Tour legend Darren Clarke with all profits being donated to JCB’s NSPCC Platinum Jubilee Appeal.   The Swiss Seniors Open (8-10 July) will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2022. It is the longest-running tournament on the Legends Tour and has been held annually at Golf Club Bad Ragaz since 1997. In addition, the WINSTONgolf Senior Open (15-17 July) will also celebrate its tenth anniversary in July.   The Sergio Melpignano Italian Senior Open (14-16 October) returns to San Domenico Golf in Savalletri, Puglia, Italy and will welcome the Legends Tour for its final stop on European soil before the final series of events in the Indian Ocean for the MCB Tour Championship which is being finalised and will be announced in the New Year.   Mark Aspland, Chief Operating Officer of the Legends Tour, said: “After two difficult seasons at the hands of the pandemic I am delighted that the rebranded Legends Tour is looking more prestigious than ever. The blend of returning events and new tournaments will be an enticing proposition for our Members.”   Phil Harrison, Chief Executive Officer of the Legends Tour, said: “The impressive 2022 schedule is the result of great work from everyone at the Legends Tour, and with the superb support of the Legends ambassadors it has proven pivotal to our growth.   “The Legends Tour is an integral part of the European Tour Group, and we are working in more international destinations than ever before. This aligns perfectly with our Legends Tour proposition by having long lasting relationships with specific destinations and supporting clients looking for premium experiences.”

What Is The Legends Tour?

Formerly known as the European Seniors Tour and the Staysure Tour, the Legends Tour is the men’s professional golf tour for members aged 50 and older. Five years after the first edition of The Senior Open, won by Neil Coles in 1987, more than 60 professionals called for a formally structured Tour, which was then created in 1992.

The Legends Tour features a strong playing membership that includes former Major winners, world number ones and Ryder Cup players and captains. Players compete for the John Jacobs Trophy, which is awarded to the golfer who finishes first on the Legends Tour Order of Merit each season.

You can get up close and personal with Legends at world-class destinations across Europe, the United States and Africa by getting your Legends Tour 2022 tickets .

Past winners (full list below) include Scotland legends Colin Montgomerie and Sam Torrance, as well as former Masters champion and world number one, Ian Woosnam.

A host of other big names and former DP World Tour champions compete on the Legends Tour, including Thomas Bjørn, Paul McGinley, Paul Lawrie, Michael Campbell, and America’s Tom Lehman.

Who Owns The Legends Tour?

In 2020, the Staysure Tour was rebranded the Legends Tour under a new ownership structure. This was part of a ground-breaking agreement between the European Tour and Staysure founder and group CEO Ryan Howsam.

Under the agreement, Howsam, who founded insurance firm Staysure in 2004, took a majority equity share in the Legends Tour. Howsam, a golf fanatic, also owns and invests in companies in sport, insurance, tech, food and media.

What Is The Alliance Series?

A number of Legends Tour events (see below) will take place in ‘Alliance’ format, which offers amateur golfers (max handicap 18 for men and 24 for women) the opportunity to compete alongside the Legends of the game and live the life of a pro – on and off the golf course.

There are six confirmed Alliance Series events in 2022. At these tournaments, amateur golfers get to play a minimum of two competitive rounds during the Championship, alongside different pros in front of crowds and the television cameras.

It costs between £8,000 and £12,000 to enter a tournament. As well as the playing experience, the package offers inside-the-ropes access at the tournament, hospitality, and use of the players lounge.

What Is The Celebrity Series?

The Celebrity Series provides another unique playing experience, where amateur golfers get to play with personalities from sport, business and media the day before the tournament gets underway. A Celebrity Series team consists of two amateurs, one Legend and one celebrity. The cost is £2,500 per person or £5,000 per team of two amateurs.

It’s a package that comes with all the trimmings, including inside-the-ropes access at the tournament, use of the players lounge and locker room, and post-round hospitality with the Legends.

What Is The Championship Pro-Am?

There’s a third opportunity for amateur golfers to experience the life of a pro golfer within the Legends Tour set-up  – the Championship Pro-Am. This takes place ahead of the competitive tournament days, and costs £3,500 per team (three amateurs and one professional). Individual places can be purchased for £1,000.

Legends Tour Schedule 2022

The Legends Tour has returned stronger and boasts an international schedule with tournaments taking place across a variety of different countries and continents. The Tour will come to a conclusion in the exotic climes of the Indian Ocean, with the ‘Indian Ocean Swing’. Firstly, The MCB Tour Championship Seychelles will be played at Constance Lemuria, Praslin, Seychelles, on December 2-4, 2022, while the MCB Tour Championship Mauritius will return to the Legends Course at Constance Belle Mare Plage, Poste de Flacq, Mauritius, the following week where players will compete for a minimum prize fund of €500,000.

A number of other events and venues complement a growing roster of top top-class tournaments on the Legends Tour in 2022, and there’s a lot of golf to be played before the Order of Merit winner gets crowned in Mauritius. And along the way, the players will be competing for record prize funds totalling over €15 million.

2023 Legends Tour: Bigger Prize Funds with New Venues in Scotland and Ireland

Golf in uae, golf in uae world.

At least 18 tournaments with a record-breaking prize fund

Sport - Golf - James Kingston

The Legends Tour will continue to build on its star quality with a global 2023 schedule which features exciting debuts for two stunning links venues, in Scotland and in Ireland, and increased prize funds across the board for many of the game’s most decorated players.

The 2023 season will feature at least 18 tournaments with a record-breaking prize fund – with final numbers set to be released shortly - which will be a significant increase on the 2022 campaign.

Among the exciting developments for 2023 is the news that the spectacular Trump International Golf Links Aberdeen will host the Tour for the first time when the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship is played from August 25-27.

The Scottish venue is joined on the schedule by another breath-taking links newcomer, with Seapoint Golf Links - a rising star in the ranks of Irish links courses and located on the East coast, just an hour north of Dublin - set to host a major international professional event for the first time from June 22-24.

The JCB Championship will return from August 4-6 after a glorious debut in 2022, when a host of superstars including Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, Darren Clarke and Paul Lawrie descended upon the spectacular Uttoxer venue, with Germany’s Alex Cejka finishing two shots clear of Irish star Paul McGinley to lift the title.

Among the other returning highlights on the new-look schedule are July’s Swiss Seniors Open at Golf Club Bad Ragaz, the WINSTONgolf Senior Open in Germany in September, the Italian Senior Open in October and November’s Farmfoods European Senior Masters in Spain.

A new English event, the Legends Players Championship, will be held for the first time in 2023, joining the JCB Championship and the Jersey Legends in a triumvirate of confirmed England-based tournaments.

Major glory may be on the cards for the biggest stars of the Legends Tour, with the Senior Open Championship Presented by Rolex visiting Royal Porthcawl Golf Club in 2023, while the KitchenAid US PGA Senior Championship will be played at PGA Frisco, Texas and the US Senior Open will take place at Wisconsin’s SentryWorld Golf Course.

The Tour will once again close with the MCB Tour Championship Mauritius, which has provided a fitting finale to the popular competition for more than a decade. At the 2022 edition of the event, staged earlier in December, South African James Kingston lifted the John Jacobs Trophy as the Order of Merit leader despite an impressive display by tournament winner Thomas Bjørn.

Many golfers hoping to make their mark on the Legends Tour in 2023 will have to first prove themselves at the Tour’s Qualifying School this month, which returns for the first time in three years. The venue for the high-stakes event will be Gloria Golf Resort in Belek, Turkey, where players will battle it out to earn one of five spots on the Tour.

Phil Harrison, Legends Tour CEO, said: “Since rebranding as the Legends Tour in 2020, our central ambition has been to keep growing, and this 2023 schedule is another incredibly exciting step forward in the evolution of our Tour.

“We have some stunning new venues to add to the long list of world-class golf courses which we visit on an annual basis. We are thrilled that, for the first time, our players will compete on two spectacular links venues in Trump International and Seapoint, while the addition of the English Masters means another big event for the famously passionate British golf fans.

“We extend our thanks to all of our host venues, sponsors and partners for being part of this journey and we look forward to welcoming them back in 2023 for what is set to be an exhilarating season for our players, our celebrities and our fans.”

The Legends Tour is the brainchild of entrepreneur Ryan Howsam, who bought a majority stake in the then-named European Senior Tour and set about rebranding the Tour in 2020. A prestigious competition featuring some of golf’s finest players aged 50 and over, the reimagined Legends Tour became a fan favourite and promises to be better than ever in 2023.

In total, this will cost you $51 a month, but Sling usually has a discount promo going that will shave some money off of new users' first month of service.

For just the essentials without any extra fluff, Sling TV is the streaming service you're looking for. It's more customizable than other plans, with three options you can choose from, so you pay for only what you need. New members get their first month for $20 off.

Where to watch the Italian Open in the UK

The Italian Open is available to watch through Sky Sports in the UK. Plans vary in price and contract length. In addition to ATP and WTA tour stops, subscribers can catch PGA competitions and several football championship matches.

Where to watch the Italian Open in New Zealand

Starting on Sunday, New Zealanders can catch the women's matches live through TVNZ . This a free streaming option that only requires account creation to watch. Most later stages of other WTA tour stops can also be found on TVNZ.

How to watch the Italian Open from anywhere

If you won't be in the US during any of the must-see matches, you can keep up with your subscriptions via VPN. Short for virtual private networks, VPNs are easy ways to alter your device's location so that you can access websites and apps that might vary in availability on a regional basis. Plus, they're strong ways to boost your online privacy. This recommendation will be best for Americans who are traveling right now and looking to access their existing subscriptions since the services we outlined today require US forms of payment. However, later in the tournament, people can set their VPN to New Zealand to access the TVNZ live streams.

If you want to try out a VPN, our go-to recommendation is ExpressVPN . In addition to being easy to learn, it offers a hassle-free 30-day money-back guarantee. Check out our ExpressVPN review to learn more and keep reading to see how to use a VPN.

How to watch the Italian Open with a VPN

  • Sign up for a VPN if you don't already have one.
  • Install it on the device you're planning to watch on.
  • Turn it on and set it to a US location.
  • Sign up for Sling TV + Sports Extra add-on with a US form of payment.
  • Select the Tennis Channel and enjoy the competition.

Legends Tour prepares to swing into Argentario for Senior Italian Open

12.07pm 6th October 2022 - Sponsorship & Events

Argentario Golf Resort

The Legends Tour returns to Argentario Golf & Wellness Resort in Tuscany later this month, where a host of top international professionals will once again descend on the 5-star resort from October 20-23 to compete in the Senior Italian Open .

One of Europe’s over-50s tour’s most popular events, past winners have included Sam Torrance and Clark Dennis – who won back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018.

Those in action this year include a host of familiar names, including Michael Campbell, Barry Lane, Paul Lawrie and Italy’s very own Costantino Rocca, while defending champion James Kingston of South Africa also joins the impressive line-up.

Located in Porto Ercole on the Monte Argentario promontory, Argentario Golf Club is one of the country’s top courses and, testament to its quality, was awarded PGA National Italy status   by the PGA in 2019. The championship layout will deliver a stern test for players, with narrow, tree-lined fairways, small greens and water hazards adding to the layout’s technical difficulty where a player’s accuracy will need to come to the fore.

Alongside the staging of this prestigious event, a number of amateurs will be able to play in the Championship Pro-Am on October 20, as well as a special 36-hole competition October 21-22, in which every amateur will be able to accompany two professionals.

For those looking to stay at the resort during the tournament, there are packages for stays from two to five nights, including breakfast, registration for the golf competitions, welcome dinner and awards ceremony and entrance to the wellness centre.
