I'm glad I visited the island, but one night was enough. I wouldn't do it again. The shuttle service to the island was prompt and efficient. The ocean conditions were a bit rough, but we made it no worse for the wear. All of the staff members that we encountered were friendly, and the arrival and check-in procedure ran smoothly. We spotted a whale tail in the distance a few times upon arrival, and we saw a dolphin after dinner. The welcome muffins were very good, but dinner was disappointing. I don't eat anything that has four legs, and the dinner of the evening was Jiggs dinner, which is salted beef that is boiled with vegetables. The beef was removed from my serving, so all I got was boiled vegetables. The cook told me that I could have a sandwich if I didn't like it, but I wasn't overly enthused by that option either. This was not my kind of food, and it was not overly filling. Breakfast the next morning was similarly disappointing. The eggs were hardboiled. Since I don't eat bacon, the cook was nice enough to give me two eggs, however. Food preparation is essentially done family style (i.e. everyone gets the same thing). Since the inn is on an island, I was hoping that some sort of fish would be served, alas not a single piece of fish was served during our stay. For the price that was charged, dinner should have included bread and a soup as appetizers and an alternative entree selection. Our room was basic and the window did not open, and the house smelled like the old house that it is. Aside from the addition of bathroom fixtures, the atmosphere was vintage. The decor was kind of suggestive that a man was in charge of the decorating. I did enjoy the smooth stone floor in the shower; it was like having a foot massage. We had no luck accessing the internet at the inn, even though power lines run to the inn down the center of the island. This was a bit disappointing, We did enjoy walking across the island on the following morning to our extraction point. The trail is fairly well marked, and it offers nice ocean views. Our shuttle driver picked us up promptly.

Dear Greg0ry, Thank you for taking the time to give us a review and feedback of our Inn. We are so happy you chose to spend a night with us on the island. When making a booking online, the booking process is not able to be completed unless you answer the mandatory question on what your dietary restrictions or food allergies are. We would have been more than happy to accommodate you if you had indicated at the time of your booking what your food preferences were. Unfortunately, internet is not available on the island and not stated anywhere that it is. I'm glad the rest of your time went well and hopefully one day you will be able to join us again! Warm Regards, Pamela Manager

I had dreamed of staying here ever since I first learned about it a few years ago. My wife and I were very excited to finally be booked to stay. And we were not disappointed. First off, the island is a marvel. Ruggedly beautiful with seemingly infinite options for hikes and outings. It is, of course, remote and exposed, but that's the whole point! Secondly, the inn itself is a treasure. Cozy rooms (we were in the second building, not the main one) and fantastic food. Everything was comfortable, comforting, and extremely homey. Isabel and her crew do an amazing job of making you feel as if you're among family. We stayed for two nights and took the Zodiac tour the day after we arrived. If we were to do it again, we would take the Zodiac tour on the day we arrived, before arriving at the island. That would give us the lay of the land without eating into our time on the island. Then our second day would be completely free to hike and explore more of the island on foot. Learn from us! The Zodiac tour is, also a fantastic experience. Brian was a knowledgeable guide that gave us a sense of the history of the island as well as great views of the local whales. Our visit to the Inn was the absolute highlight of our trip to Newfoundland and big check mark on our list of places we've always dreamed of staying. I really hope we will return. It's not for everyone, which is actually kind of great because it gives me hope that we'll have a chance at making a reservation again in the future!

We visiting during the last week of July 2019 and stayed for two nights. The zodiac ride in was great - I'm terrified of small boats in deep water, and this is essentially a motorized rubber raft, but I let the captain know that and he was great about it. You ride up the left coast of the island where the waters were smooth, then go around the cape (a tad rougher) and then just around the corner and you're there. About a 12 minute boat ride at most. From the dock, you can take a short hike up to the lighthouse or ride in an ATV. Our first night there was great - the sun came out and we saw a lot of whales playing in the cove. The next day (our only full day there) was fogged in and rained the whole time. We spent the day reading and relaxing, which was fine, but kind of a bummer for the outdoor hiking/exploring that we'd wanted to do. You can opt to do a Zodiac excursion to see whales and icebergs for $55 extra dollars per person, which we did not do, but others did and loved it. The food was all excellent and Isabel, who seems to be the head chef, is an extremely talented chef. She was also my favorite on the staff and we interacted with her more than the others. We stayed in the main lightkeepers house (there is another one just down the path) and the room was nice with an en suite bathroom (some don't have this). Our only complaint with the room was that the windows don't open...at all! Lucky for us, it was about 9 deg C during our stay and fogged in/cloudy. However, another couple who was leaving mentioned that when the sun shone all day long, the room was unbearably hot even with cool outdoor temps. We heard from guests in the other house that those windows DO open...so that might be something to request ahead of time. The only other thing we didn't like was that the common area was very small with not enough spaces to sit. Some folks seemed to really enjoy talking with the other guests....we just wanted a place to read and relax quietly. So we either did that in our room or bundled up and sat in the enclosed outdoor whale watching room (not heated). Just something to know...everyone looks for a different experience. We would probably go again and, if the weather is nice upon arrival we'd do the hike in, but not stay for two nights. As others have said, there is no cell service, WiFi, or television - we considered those all to be positive attributes!

  • Sleep Quality
  • Cleanliness

Worth the gettin there. Yes we were staying in the not very updated rooms of the lighthouse keeper of old. Long ride in a Zodiac to get there weather permitting. Long ride in ATV & boat to get back to the mainland in rough weather. Rooms were warm & cozy and public space filled with interesting people visiting from all over the world. Hiking good for those invertebrate hikers . It rained sleeted and snowed while we were there but enjoyed every minute . Food excellent and good quality. I’d go back.

We thought this would be a great unique place to stay during our trip to Newfoundland and we weren't disappointed. We stayed two nights as they recommend. All meals (5 during a two night stay) were delicious home-cooked meals - you definitely won't go to bed hungry! One tip - do your research before coming, which means read their whole website, all the information is there and it's an honest representation of the place. You're on an island - if the weather is terrible and rainy (which happens in Newfoundland a lot) you don't have anywhere to go but your room and the common area. The website clearly says that in times of rough waters the boat cannot dock by the lighthouse and will drop you a 5km hike away (some other guests failed to read that part). Yes, you can ride on the ATV, but it seats 5 people, so if there are 8 guests checking in that day then the other 3 have to hike or stand at the dock for an hour for the ATV to come back. The hike is great and a story to tell your friends about, it just surprised us the number of other guests that whined/complained about it when it was clearly advertised. My only complaint - the app they advertise as a hiking guide to the island is awful and a waste of time to download, it doesn't work.

Heritage Lighthouse Inns

Four-star comfort, inspirational surroundings.

Our award-winning Lighthouse Inns are four-star properties offering comfort, history and scenic ocean views. In keeping with our goal to maintain authenticity, both inns are Registered Heritage Properties and both are operational lights, continuing to safely guide voyaging mariners. Each location has its own charm, whether it’s capturing your imagination with icebergs and whales on a deserted island, or speaking to your soul with stunning sunsets over the sprawling Atlantic.

Quirpon Lighthouse Inn

A deserted island offers the quintessential experience of lighthouse life

As you drift off to sleep in our cozy inn, on the craggy coast of an untouched island, let the powerful North Atlantic surf remind you of the hardy generations of light-keepers that went before. In this isolated corner of the globe, nature remains untouched and untamed. At dawn, be sure to introduce yourself to your only neighbours – the great whales migrating past your doorstep. Humpback, Orca, Minke and other cetacean colossi can be observed from the panoramic view of our whale watching station or helipad. Next, take a day to explore the natural beauty and historic remnants of this unique and special place. Quirpon is located north of Gros Morne National Park, near to the Vking site at L'Anse aux Meadows.

Cape Anguille Lighthouse Inn

An idyllic and inspiring destination where rare birds sing songs of solitude

Rest by a rocky outcrop and breathe in the world’s freshest air. Soak in the soothing slowness and bring peace to your heart, mind and soul. Our beautiful inn at Cape Anguille is a restored century-old light-keeper’s home tucked in a pristine corner of western Newfoundland. Designated a Registered Heritage Building, it is set in a peaceful landscape dotted with wandering horses and sheep, against the temperamental background of the roaring North Atlantic Ocean. Arriving in Newfoundland on the ferry? This is the ideal spot to spend the night, watching the sun set over the ocean waves as you feel your vacation truly begin.

Looking for something a little more modern? Want to explore the Humber Valley region? Consider a stay at our sister property,  Marble Inn Resort , just minutes from Newfoundland’s premier ski destination, Marble Mountain.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).
  • The interval in the movement of trains in rush hour is  90 seconds .
