The vessel (IMO number 9753193) is currently Malta- flagged (MMSI 256235000) and registered in Valletta .

History - construction and ownership

TUI Cruises is a UK-based joint venture cruise company (50-50) of TUI Group (British-German travel and tourism corporation) and RCCL-Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (USA-based passenger shipping company). TUI started cruise shipping operations in 2009, targeting predominantly the German-speaking market with a premium travel vacation product. German and English are the main onboard languages on all TUI Schiffs (ships). TUI's sister-brands are Marella Cruises UK and Hapag-Lloyd-Cruises .

The 2500-passenger ship Mein Schiff 5 was launched on January 15, 2016, following a 14-month construction period. The launch took place 6 months ahead of the liner's scheduled christening ceremony on July 15, which was held at Lubeck Bay (close to Travemunde-Lubeck Germany ).

Schiff 5 uses highly innovative technology for environmentally-friendly ship operations. Each ship in this series consumes 30% less energy in comparison with vessels of similar size. By using combined exhaust gas treatment systems for reducing bad emissions, these ships fully exploit all that is technically feasible.

Wheelchair-accessible cabins are 4, all located on Deck 3 and each with wider entry and bathroom doors, emergency phone, special handrails and location close to the passenger lifts. All Suites and Family cabin categories have Xbox gaming consoles. Exclusive Suites-only amenities are free Internet, complimentary mini-bar, concierge service, priority services, in-room dining, access to the ship's X-Lounge and private sundeck.

Mein Schiff 5 itinerary program was initially based on Mediterranean roundtrips from Mallorca and Caribbean roundtrips from Dominican Republic (La Romana) and Barbados (Bridgetown) . The liner offers Transatlantic repositioning (Europe-Caribbean-Europe), between Mediterranean-Baltic and through Suez Canal (Mediterranean-Dubai-Mediterranean).

• During winter, Schiff 5 cruises to Eastern and Southern Caribbean ports leaving roundtrip from Barbados and the Dominican Republic. The 14-day Karibik itineraries visit ports in Guadeloupe, Dominica, St Lucia, Grenada, Curacao, Bonaire, Aruba.
• Northern European itineraries are roundtrips from Germany to the UK (Scotland, Northern Ireland, Ireland, England) and Norway (Norwegian Fjords).
• The 7-day Dubai roundtrips visit Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, UAE (Sir Bani Yas Island, Abu Dhabi), with Dubai pre- and post-cruise overnights. In 2020, a special 14-day cruise from Dubai visits India (Mumbai, Cochin, Mormugao).

Following the Coronavirus crisis, in mid-April 2021 TUI announced that Schiff 5 restarts revenue operations on May 13th (2021) with two different 7-day itineraries leaving roundtrip from homeport Heraklion Crete . Itinerary1 visited Rhodes Island , Piraeus-Athens , Souda-Chania Crete . Itinerary2 visited Corfu Island (Kerkyra) , Katakolon-Olympia , Piraeus-Athens. Prices started from EUR 1400 per person (balcony cabin with double occupancy/EUR 1850 pp Junior Suite) with fares inclusive of flights (via chartered aircraft).

TUI relocated Mein Schiff 5 from Europe to Asia via Suez Canal (ReporsitionCruises.com), with homeporting in Singapore (Dec 6, 2022, through March 15, 2023) and in Hong Kong China (Mar 29 through April 6, 2023).

Mein Schiff 5 Wiki

Schiff 5 is TUI's third  newbuild vessel  constructed in  Turku Finland . The shipbuilding company STX was bought out by Meyer Werft GmbH in 2015. All the new TUI liners were built with energy-efficient solutions and environmentally friendly powerplants that reduce emissions by 30% and consume 30% less energy in comparison to other ships of similar size. The advanced scrubber (exhaust cleaning system) uses a catalytic and scrubber converter, which reduces sulfur emissions by 99% and nitrogen oxide emissions by 75%.

Designers of the new TUI ships are Wilson Butler Architects, together with CM Design and Tillberg Design. Fun fact is, that each ship in this new series brings nearly 5000 person-years labor to the Turku shipyard. Each ship's construction engages 800 out of all 1400 workers at the shipbuilding yard. The percentage of German travelers on TUI ships is ~80%.

Schiff 5 vessel's hull construction started with the keel-laying ceremony (held on June 23, 2015). The ceremony started by lowering the first keel block into the shipyard’s drydock hall. Traditionally, "lucky coins" were put under the keel block. The vessel was launched (floated out from drydock) on January 15, 2016, at Meyer Werft's newly acquired Turku Shipyard . The 14 months construction period involved 1500 employees. A total of 77 steel blocks were melted into a new cruise ship in the course of construction. By the old maritime tradition, during the keel-laying ceremony coins were put under the keel block - to bring good luck for the vessel.

The vessel was delivered 10 days earlier than scheduled - on June 20, 2016. The delivery ceremony was attended by Frank Kuhlmann (TUI's CFO), Wybcke Meier (TUI's CEO) and Jan Meyer (Meyer Turku's CEO). TUI Schiff 5 is the first cruise ship that was both contracted and built totally under Meyer Werft's ownership. In the afternoon of June 21, the mooring ropes were cut and the ship crewed with around 1000 people left the shipbuilding yard and headed for Kiel Germany (its ever first cruise port of call), where she arrived on June 23.

The ship's christening ceremony was held on July 15, 2016, at Lubeck Bay (near Travemunde Germany ). The ceremony was led by Godmother Lena Johanna Therese Meyer-Landrut (1991-born German singer and songwriter). Following her 'Satellite" song live performance, Lena beamed a laser ray off the top of the Maritim Strandhotel which set off a mechanism that smashed a Champagne bottle against the hull. The naming ceremony also featured acrobatic performances (by "Les Oiseaux du Paradis") and a fireworks show streamed on multiple LED screens along the beach. Part of the ceremony was also the ship's 1800 cruise passengers and over 300 special guests, among which Richard Fain (RCCL company's CEO and Chairman).

The inaugural cruise was on July 16-24 (Baltic Capitals itinerary) roundtrip from Kiel to Tallinn, Sankt Petersburg, Helsinki and Stockholm. On September 12, 2016, the vessel made her maiden UK stop - docking in Portland England . During the port stay, over 75% of the shore excursions were to Dorset's attractions, including the Jurassic Coast, Abbotsbury Swannery, Corfe Castle, Minterne House, Portland Bill.

During its Inaugural season (summer of 2016), Schiff 5 sailed on various Northern European itineraries (Norway, UK, Baltic /Scandinavia and Russia). During winter, the ship sailed on roundtrip Mediterranean itineraries leaving from Spain ( Palma De Mallorca ), Transatlantic repositioning crossings and Caribbean cruises leaving from  Barbados (Bridgetown)  and  Dominican Republic (La Romana) .

During the scheduled for 2020 drydock , Schiff 5's powerplant was upgraded with shoreside power capabilities . The technology allows the vessel to shut down its diesel engines while in port and to receive electricity from the city's power grid via a dockside facility.

Mein Schiff 5's last drydock refurbishment was in 2023 (November 20- December 2) conducted in Dubai UAE. The project was mainly for regular maintenance works and classification surveys, hull cleaning/silicon coating, as well as technical overhauls and upgrades to all public areas. Renovations included new carpeting throughout (2500 m2/26900 ft2), Shore Excursions Desk, Future Cruise Office, adding a new poolside bar and Art Gallery. The powerplant was upgraded with shoreside power capabilities . The technology allows the vessel to shut down its diesel engines while in port and to receive electricity from the city's power grid via a dockside facility.

My Ship 5 (Mein Schiff 5) is probably the best of the popular German tui cruises fleet consisting of six vessels (a 7th is under construction). Launched in 2016 the cruise liner boasts an excellent design, the longest pool of all cruise ships (25 meters), extraordinary suites (sky & sea on two levels with a private sundeck) and a premium all inclusive concept which provides e.g. around 100 well known brands of liquor and drinks (unlike cheap substitutes on some other cruise-ships). The first two ships of the fleet were used ones bought from Celebrity Cruises. Beginning with 2014 new ships were launched, the last ones Mein Schiff 1 in 2018 and Mein Schiff 2 in 2019. Unlike these two Mein Schiff 5 is a bit smaller (360 passengers less) which we appreciate. But see yourself!

On July 15, 2016 the My ship 5 , the youngest new building of the Hamburg cruise line Tui-Cruises, christened in Lübeck-Travemünde.

There were many things to consider when planning, building and launching the cruise ship. But not by the name of the ship. After Mein Schiff 4 comes logically Mein Schiff 5 ; Finding a name is that easy TUI Cruises .

Fourteen months after the first steel cut, Mein Schiff 5 was swimming in the construction dock of the January 15, 2016 Meyer Turku shipyard on. And on June 20, 2016, TUI Cruises officially took over the new building, 10 days earlier than originally planned. The ship was christened on July 15, 2016 in Lübeck-Travemünde. The singer and songwriter Lena Meyer-Landrut acted as godmother.

After the successful start of the company with two of Celebrity Cruises acquired used ships was with Mein Schiff 3 the starting signal was given for the development of a largely identical series of ships. A total of six new buildings were ordered. The last ship in the series is to be taken over in 2019. The ships are inclusive Mein Schiff 6 each 295 meters long and about 36 meters wide. They are measured at almost 99.000 GT. Mein Schiff 7 and 8, the last two ships, are about 20 meters longer. They should be able to accommodate over 2.700 passengers.

From the outside, the cruise ships are like one egg to the other. There are differences with regard to the number of cabins and the equipment. With each new building, the company presents innovations as part of product maintenance. A tour of the ship on board Mein Schiff 5 showed us to what extent the new flagship differs from the previous ships.

There are only a few changes to report in the cabin area. With 1.267 cabins, the number of cabins has increased slightly compared to the previous ships: there are 127 inside, 97 outside and 963 balcony cabins. The proportion of balcony cabins is again more than 82 percent. All standard cabins are 17 m² each. Only the outside cabins designed for 4 to 6 people have a living space of 29 to 44 m².

The area of ​​the 64 junior suites, which have 28 m² of living space and 8 m² of balcony area, is a lot more comfortable. Guests in the suite areas don't have to restrict themselves at all. The size of the suites varies between 40 and 54 m². A total of 12 cabin categories offer passengers the “feel-good moments” that TUI Cruises ships represent.

The offers in the SPA & SPORT area promise passengers a “feel-good holiday for all the senses”. A total of 1.800 m² of space is reserved for the SPA & Sport decks with the outdoor sport areas.

Active athletes are offered, in addition to the 25-meter outdoor pool and the 280-meter long jogging track, indoor cycling and much more, for a surcharge, vitality checks, personal training and individual nutritional coaching. The rest areas with the indoor pools on the two predecessor ships Mein Schiff 3 and Mein Schiff 4 have become open and offer more berths Lagoon remodeled. Mein Schiff 5 was apparently planned for use in sun-drenched regions. Besides the Sand lies the newly arrived Fitness-yourself-path with six outdoor sports equipment that can be used at any time.

The SPA is exotic Thailand dedicated. Sixteen cabins for different beauty treatments and two manicure areas are available for men and women, for young people and couples. A private one became for them SPA Suite designed with sauna, whirlpool and swing bed. If you like, you can rent on the 15th deck Relaxation lodges from 9 euros an hour.

The Restaurant offer Mein Schiff 5 underwent some changes. Passengers are familiar with the two "long-running" versions of the Atlantik , the buffet restaurant Anckelmannsplatz which GOSH , the bakery, that Surf & Turf , the redesigned Day & night bistro as well as the Eisbar .

That is an innovation Hanami by TIM RAUE . The “Hanami” was already on Mein Schiff 3 and 4. The menu of this Japanese restaurant was, however, created by the bustling Berliner Two-star chef Tim Raue designed for TUI Cruises. The restaurant was effectively placed on deck 4 in the "Diamant" in place of the previous café.

To the place of the Richards - Fine dining moved that treats . The name is program. Austrian specialties are prepared both in a modern and traditional way in an alpine ambience. They offer a somewhat “different” breakfast, rustic tapas, until now we thought they came from Spain, coffee and cake in the afternoon and a hearty à la carte menu in the evening.

Around Bars & Lounges there are only a few changes to report. As already stated, the one from Mein Schiff 4 had to be known Cafe lounge give way to the Hanami by TIM RAUE at the stern of the ship. Coffee specialties and chocolates produced on board are now available to the guest next to the newly designed reception in the Nespresso Bar bid on deck 3.

Opposite the bar is the joint with the Thalia bookstore chain developed Reading lounge .

The place of Waterkant Bar & Lounge on deck 4 Mein Schiff 5 takes the elaborately designed LUMAS bar a. Guests also come across the counter there LUMAS gallery . The Berlin provider specializes in the marketing of works by contemporary photo artists in small editions.

TUI Cruises offers passengers on all ships a sophisticated entertainment program with shows, musicals, concerts and variety shows. As a responsible shipping company, TUI Cruises rely on constructive measures with regard to environmental protection and energy efficiency in their newbuildings. With the help of emission filters, sulfur oxides are "washed" and reduced by up to 99 percent. Nitrogen oxides are reduced by around 75 percent. Compared to the one baptized in June 2014 Mein Schiff 3 the new building requires 10 percent less energy. The shipping company declares Mein Schiff 5 to be one of the world's most energy-efficient cruise ships in its class.

With the third new building, in our opinion, the shipping company is presenting a successful cruise ship in the fleet that now consists of seven ships. Passengers who choose this ship can rightly have high expectations of the cruise ship from TUI Cruises cherish. However, we cannot help but get the impression that, contrary to the advertising slogan “Premium All Inclusive”, food and drink offers are increasingly being used in the catering sector.

Rotes Meer: Mein Schiff streicht Kreuzfahrten im Herbst 2024!

Reiseabsagen für Mein Schiff 4 und Mein Schiff 6!

Nur wenig überraschend, aber deutlich früher als für das Frühjahr 2024 hat die Hamburger Reederei TUI Cruises nun auf die aktuelle Lage im Roten Meer reagiert und zahlreiche Kreuzfahrten im Herbst 2024 mit Mein Schiff 4 und Mein Schiff 6 storniert. 

Zur eigenen Planungsicherheit und auch für die der gebuchten Gäste hat TUI Cruises nun zahlreiche Reisen, die im Herbst 2024 hätten stattfinden sollen gestrichen. Hintergrund dazu ist die anhaltende Situation im Roten Meer, TUI Cruises geht an der Stelle denselben Weg, wie einige Marktbegleiter und wird neue Routen um Afrika anbieten, damit die Wintersaison 2024 / 2025 weitgehend wie geplant durchgeführt werden kann. Da die Afrika Umrundung mehr Zeit in Anspruch nimmt als die Suezkanal-Passage, müssen mehr Reisen als nur der Zeitraum der eigentlichen Transreisen abgesagt werden. 

Alleine bei Mein Schiff 4 wird mussten nun fünf Abreisetermine gestrichen werden, die gebuchten Gäste werden aktuell informiert, die in Bälde buchbaren Afrika Umrundungen werden in diesem Rahmen als Alternativen bereits genannt. Als zusätzliche Kompensation bietet Mein Schiff den gebuchten Gästen der abgesagten Kreuzfahrten eine Ermäßigung für eine Neubuchung an. Bei Mein Schiff 6 handelt es sich um denselben Hintergrund, betroffen sind drei Abfahrten, die Kompensation ist deckungsgleich, auch hier wird eine neue Afrikaumrundung zur Erhaltung der geplanten Wintersaison 2024 / 2025 folgen.

Für die alternative Reise, die in Kürze buchbar sein wird, wurden bereits Stopps in Namibia, Mauritius und La Reunion angekündigt. Da das Schiff um Südafrika kreuzen wird, ist auch von einem Halt in Kapstadt auszugehen.

Auch für die kommende Alternativreise von Mein Schiff 6 wurden bereits Stopps in den Häfen von Mauritius, La Reunion und Namibia angekündigt. Der Buchungsstart soll in Kürze folgen. 

Wie geht es weiter? Kompensation der Absagen

Jeder betroffene Gast erhält eine Email von der jeweiligen Buchungsstelle. TUI Cruises wird die Buchung in den nächsten Tagen kostenfrei stornieren. Als Kompensation erhalten die gebuchten Gäste eine 10% Ermäßigung auf den Kreuzfahrtanteil für eine Neubuchung, hierbei wird keine Einlöse-Frist vorgegeben. Die bisherige Zahlung wird in ein Mein Schiff Reiseguthaben umgewandelt, dieses kann natürlich bei einer neuen Buchung direkt eingesetzt werden. Das Guthaben (die Anzahlung / geleistete Zahlung) wird auf Wunsch natürlich auch wieder ausgezahlt. Die 10% Ermäßigung wird jedoch nur dann gewährt, wenn zeitgleich auch das Guthaben für die Neubuchung genutzt wird. Eine Auszahlung in Kombination mit der Ermäßigung ist nicht möglich. Ungültig ist die Ermäßigung in Kombination mit Specials oder Eventreisen, auch ist es nicht anwendbar auf Zusatzleistungen wie Anreise, Abreise, Versicherung und Bordleistungen.
