- This is the prime minister's 7th visit to UAE, that's an example of this being one of our most dynamic, one of our most consequential relationships anywhere.
- I really think that the kind of personal relationship, the kind of trust that has been established, the kind of warmth that has been established between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed has been driving this relationship and really opening up new avenues that we could never have imagined earlier.
PM Modi UAE Visit Live Updates: Former Indian Ambassador to UAE, Navdeep Suri, shares insights on the Hindu temple in UAE
- I think it's a very symbolic day for the Indian community, for the large Indian diaspora that we have in UAE.
- For many years, it's been a spiritual need, a religious need for them. And I know that in 2015, when the Prime Minister came here for the first time, he put in a request to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, then crown prince of Abu Dhabi, that it would be nice if some land could be granted. And soon thereafter, I came here as an ambassador and started following up on actually getting the land. So we got 13 and a half acres initially, then we got another 13 and a half acres for the parking. We saw step by step how this mandir has come about.
- But I think as we celebrate the wonderful Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi, we celebrate the work, the energy, and the organisation of the Baps Swaminarayan sect in building it. UAE is actually trying to demonstrate through actions its commitment to building interfaith harmony between the many different communities that inhabit this country.

The two leaders underlined that this was the seventh visit of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to the UAE in the last nine years. The Prime Minister last visited the UAE on December 1, 2023, to participate in the UNFCCC COP28 conference in Dubai, where he met with UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the sidelines. The two leaders discussed the India-UAE bilateral relationship, which was formally elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during the visit of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to India in 2017. They expressed satisfaction on the progress achieved in various sectors, noting that the partnership between the two countries has been significantly expanding over the years.

The two leaders endorsed the efforts from both sides to strengthen the strong economic and commercial cooperation and explore new areas of collaboration. They welcomed the strong growth witnessed in the UAE-India trade relations since the entry into force of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) on May 1, 2022. As a result, the UAE is India’s third-largest trading partner for the year 2022-23 and India’s second-largest export destination. India is the UAE’s second largest trading partner, with the bilateral trade rising to USD 85 billion in 2022-23. In this regard, the leaders expressed optimism regarding elevating the bilateral trade to USD 100 billion well ahead of the target year 2030. The two leaders also acknowledged the formal unveiling of the UAE-India CEPA Council (UICC), which stands as an important development in the bilateral trade partnership.
The leaders noted that the Bilateral Investment Treaty will be a key enabler for further promoting investments in both countries across sectors. The UAE was also the fourth largest investor in India in 2023 and the seventh largest source of Foreign Direct Investment overall. They highlighted that India has signed both the Bilateral Investment Treaty and a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement with the UAE, reflecting the uniqueness and depth of the bilateral economic engagement between the two countries.
The leaders underscored the importance of a well-functioning and equitable multilateral trading system in fostering global economic prosperity and resilience, and stressed the importance for the 13th WTO Ministerial Conference, taking place in Abu Dhabi from 26 to 29 February 2024, to achieve a meaningful outcome that serves the interests of all WTO Members and strengthens the rules-based trade order.
The leaders welcomed the decision to create Bharat Mart at Jebel Ali, which will further promote bilateral trade and serve as a platform for enhancing the utilization of CEPA by leveraging the strategic location of Jebel Ali port. They noted that Bharat Mart would support micro, small and medium sector enterprises from India by providing them an effective platform to reach out to international buyers and promote their products across Middle East, Africa, and Eurasia.

They acknowledged the recent signing of two new long-term LNG supply agreements between ADNOC Gas and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd and Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) for 1.2 MMTPA and 0.5 MMTPA, respectively. These agreements mark the beginning of a new era in the energy partnership between the two countries, and both leaders encouraged the companies to explore more such opportunities. Furthermore, the two sides agreed to advance their cooperation in hydrogen, solar energy, and grid connectivity.
The leaders acknowledged that the Memorandum of Understanding in the field of Electricity Interconnection and Trade signed today opens a new area of energy cooperation between the two countries, which will also bring to life the Green Grids – One Sun One World One Grid (OSOWOG) initiative launched during by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi during COP26. . The two leaders appreciated the commencement of the first Master’s program in Energy Transition and Sustainability by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi in Abu Dhabi, the first IIT in the Middle East. They reiterated the shared commitment of both countries for cooperation in education and research with a focus on advanced technologies, Artificial Intelligence, and sustainable energy.
The two leaders reviewed the progress of establishing the UAE-India Culture Council Forum and the membership of the council from both sides. The two leaders also emphasized the role of cultural and knowledge diplomacy in shaping a deeper mutual understanding that benefits both nations.
The leaders welcomed the MoU for creation of an intergovernmental framework between India and UAE on the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor IMEEC, which reflected the lead taken by the UAE and India in furthering regional connectivity. The main elements of the Framework include development and management of a logistics platform, including a digital ecosystem, and provision of supply chain services to handle all types of general cargo, bulk, containers and liquid bulk in order to enable IMEEC. This will be the first agreement under the IMEEC initiative, launched on the side-lines of G20 Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi.

PM Modi UAE Visit Highlights: PM Modi holds bilateral talks in Doha
Pm modi in uae highlights: prime minister narendra modi arrived in doha early thursday..
PM Modi UAE Visit 2024 Highlights: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Qatar’s capital, Doha Thursday. PM Modi is scheduled to hold bilateral meeting with Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, ANI said in a tweet.
Addressing the inauguration of the BAPS Hindu Temple in Abu Dabhi, PM Narendra Modi on Wednesday said, “a long-standing dream has come true,” and added, “today, the land of UAE has scripted a golden chapter in the history of humanity.” The inauguration of the 108-ft high temple marks a significant moment for the Hindu community in UAE, as well as for the two countries’ bilateral ties. The temple was built by the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS), a denomination of the Swaminarayan Sampradaya, a Vaishnav sect of Hinduism.
Speaking at the World Government Summit in Dubai, PM Modi on Wednesday asserted that the “world today needs inclusive governments, which take everyone along and are clean and free from corruption.” Modi said it is the job of the government to ensure that their interference in people’s lives is minimal. “My fundamental principle has always been ‘Minimum government, maximum governance’. I have always emphasised creating an environment in which the sense of enterprise and energy in the citizens grows,” he said.

The land of UAE has scripted a golden chapter: PM Narendra Modi

From Kerala to UAE: Meet artisans who made Ayyappa idol for temple Modi inaugurated
As Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the BAPS temple in UAE on Wednesday, it was a moment of pride for a family in Kerala, which made the idol of Lord Ayyappa that was placed at the first Hindu temple in the Gulf country.
The panchaloha idol of Ayyappa was manufactured by a group of companies run by traditional artisans Ananthan Achari and his son Anu Ananthan at Parumala in Pathanamthitta district. “We are very proud of being associated with the temple. We have made idols and dhwaja stambha (flag pole) for hundreds of temples. But the opportunity to make the idol for BAPS temple is really a blessing of Ayyappa,” said Anu.

The Abu Dhabi temple is a traditional stone Hindu temple with seven shikhars. Built in the traditional Nagar style, the temple’s front panel depicts universal values, stories of harmony from different cultures, Hindu spiritual leaders and avatars.
Spread over 27 acres, the temple complex is on 13.5 acres, with a parking area of 13.5 acres that can accommodate around 1,400 cars and 50 buses. The 13.5 acres of land was gifted by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE in 2019.
The height of the temple is 108 ft, length 262 ft and width 180 ft. While the external facade uses pink sandstone from Rajasthan, the interior uses Italian marbles. A total of 20,000 tonnes of stones and marble was shipped in 700 containers for the temple. More than Rs 700 crore was spent on the temple’s construction.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi offers stump re-election speech on international stage in UAE
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a stump speech for his re-election on a global stage Wednesday in the United Arab Emirates, describing his years in power as pushing for “minimum government, maximum governance.”
Modi's comments come as he prepares for the inauguration of a stone-built Hindu temple near Abu Dhabi, the country's capital, after meeting with the Emirati leader he's repeatedly described as “his brother.”
That personal touch seems aimed at further cementing ties with the UAE, an oil-rich country that supplies India's energy needs while also serving as a home for some 3.5 million of his countrymen abroad. “I believe that people should neither feel the absence of a government, but at the same time, nor should there be pressure from the government,” Modi said in a speech before the World Governments Summit in Dubai. “In fact, I believe that the government should interfere as little as possible in the lives of people," he said. It is perhaps fitting that one of his last international trips in his second term as Prime Minister takes Narendra Modi to the United Arab Emirates and Qatar. The inauguration of the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan (BAPS) temple in Abu Dhabi and the release of eight Indian ex-naval personnel held on espionage charges in Doha this week are two different kinds of events.
Together, they are a high water mark for Modi’s diplomacy and symbolise the transformation of India’s relations with the Gulf during the last 10 years. It was unimaginable that a large Hindu temple would be built in the deeply Islamic and conservative Arabian peninsula with full state support, and the Indian Prime Minister would be there for its inauguration. When the eight former naval personnel were handed a death sentence last October, it was considered near impossible to secure their release. Read more here
Opinion | India-UAE, a decade of successful engagement
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first visit to the UAE on August 16-17, 2015 set the stage for transforming the relationship. The warm welcome he received at the airport from the then Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi (now President of UAE) His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan set the tone for what turned out to be a hugely successful visit." "The excellent personal rapport between the leadership of the two countries and the trust it has engendered over the past ten years, brought India and the UAE into an exemplary bond of mutually beneficial partnership. The Indian diaspora has meanwhile increased to over 3.5 million, cementing ties further," T P Seetharam, former Ambassador of India to the UAE (2013-2016) writes.
What's on agenda for PM Modi in UAE?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin his two-day UAE visit today where he is expected to participate in the World Government Summit 2024 and inaugurate the first Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi, besides attending official meetings.
In a press briefing on Monday, Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra said that PM Modi will visit UAE on February 13 and 14, following which he will travel to Doha in Qatar. The Doha visit comes days after the release of eight Indian Navy officials who were jailed in Qatar.
UAE is one of India’s key trade diplomatic partners, and experts say that PM Modi’s latest visit is meant to shore up business, defense and cultural ties with its Middle Eastern neighbour.
What is the BAPS Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi?
PM Modi accepted the invitation to inaugurate the temple in December 2023. According to a press release, Pujya Swami Ishwarcharandas, a senior swami of the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, presented the official invitation to Modi. HH Mahant Swami Maharaj addressed the invitation for the PM with these words: “Pramukh Swami na Priya Putra Modi Saheb” (The most beloved son of Pramukh Swami, Modiji).
BAPS stands for the Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha. According to its website, it is a “socio-spiritual Hindu faith with its roots in the vedas” which was pioneered by Bhagwan Swaminarayan (1781-1830) in the late 18th century and established in 1907 by Shastriji Maharaj (1865-1951).

Visit of Hon’ble Prime Minister to the UAE and Qatar (13-15 February 2024)
I am travelling to the United Arab Emirates on an Official Visit from 13-14 February and to Qatar from 14-15 February. This will be my seventh visit to the UAE and second visit to Qatar since 2014.
Over the last nine years, our cooperation with UAE in diverse sectors such as trade and investment, defence and security, food and energy security and education has grown manifold. Our cultural and people-to-people connect is stronger than ever.
I look forward to meeting His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of UAE, in Abu Dhabi and hold wide-ranging discussions on taking forward our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. I had the privilege of hosting His Highness recently in Gujarat, where he was the Chief Guest at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024.
At the invitation of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, PM and Defence Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, I will be addressing the gathering of world leaders at the World Government Summit in Dubai on 14 Feb 2024. My discussions with Prime Minister His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid on the margins of Summit will focus on strengthening our multifaceted ties with Dubai.
During the visit, I will also inaugurate the first Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi. The BAPS temple will be an enduring tribute to the values of harmony, peace and tolerance, which both India and the UAE share.
I will address the members of the Indian Community from all the Emirates of the UAE at a special event in Abu Dhabi.
In Qatar, I am looking forward to meeting His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir, under whose leadership Qatar continues to witness tremendous growth and transformation. I am also looking forward to meeting other high dignitaries in Qatar.
India and Qatar enjoy historically close and friendly relations. In recent years, our multifaceted ties have continued to deepen in all spheres including high level political exchanges, growing trade and investment between two countries, strengthening of our energy partnership, and cooperation in culture and education. The presence of over 800,000 strong Indian community in Doha is a testament to our strong people-to-people ties.

'Dubai faced Allah's wrath because it built BAPS Mandir': Pakistani's shocking take on historic floods (WATCH)
I n a controversial statement, a Pakistani man has linked the recent historic floods in Dubai to the construction of the BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir, a Hindu temple, in the neighbouring emirate of Abu Dhabi. This shocking claim comes months after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the temple on February 14th, marking a significant moment in the region's religious landscape.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE), known for its arid climate, recently experienced unprecedented rainfall, with the National Center of Meteorology reporting the highest rainfall in 75 years. Scenes of flooding in Dubai, one of the UAE's prominent emirates and the host of COP28 last year, shocked the world as the city grappled with the aftermath of the deluge.

The Pakistani individual, whose statement gained attention on social media, claimed that Dubai's inundation was a manifestation of divine retribution, attributing it to the construction of the BAPS Mandir, which he referred to as a temple for "idol worshippers" in the "land of idol breakers."
"Dubai faced Allah's wrath in form of rainstorms because they recently built temple for idol worshippers in the land of idol breakers," he shockingly said in a direct reference to the BAPS Mandir in a video that has now gone viral on X, formerly Twitter.
It's worth noting that during his inaugural visit to the UAE in 2015, PM Modi initiated discussions regarding the establishment of a Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi. Subsequently, the UAE government allocated land for the construction of the BAPS temple. Following the temple's inauguration on February 14, PM Modi hailed this development as a "landmark" step and conveyed gratitude to the UAE leadership on behalf of India's 1.3 billion citizens.
"The Government of UAE President has fulfilled a bis wish of crores of India with a large heart. Not just here, they have won the hearts of 140 crore Indians," he had said during his address at the event.
"This temple will become a symbol of communal harmony and global unity for the entire world. UAE's Minister of Tolerance Sheikh Nahyan Al Mubarak is present here, and the views he expressed were actually words describing the strengthening of our dreams," PM Modi had added.
However, the Pakistani individual's interpretation of the recent Dubai floods as a divine punishment has sparked a massive outburst on social media platforms.
Meanwhile, the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) told Khaleej Times that there's a chance of light to moderate rain on Monday evening in UAE. It added that the weather situation is anticipated to improve by Wednesday with a drop by five to seven degrees in temperature.
"There's no need for concern; the current situation doesn't involve heavy rainfall whatsoever. It's not comparable to last week's event. It's not going to be intense; they're rather moderate, with clouds shifting from the western coast towards the UAE," Dr Ahmed Habib, a climate expert from NCM, told the outlet.
"There's a chance of light rain or drizzle. These clouds are headed to Abu Dhabi, resulting in light rainfall, then progressing eastward towards the mountains, where cloud formation could lead to a little over moderate rainfall only in mountainous areas. On Wednesday morning all the cloud cover will move outside the UAE towards Oman," Dr Habib added.

Following last week's deluge, scientists attributed the increasingly frequent extreme weather events, including the rains in UAE and Oman, to human-induced global warming.
In the UAE, where rains are rare due to its hot desert climate and temperatures that can exceed 50 degrees Celsius in the summer, the recent downpour came as a stark anomaly.
