Barna Mia Nocturnal Wildlife Experience

We recognise and acknowledge Wiilman people as the traditional owners of Dryandra Woodland National Park.

Take a guided nocturnal tour in a tranquil sanctuary that has become home for some of Western Australia’s native animals facing extinction. Experience an unforgettable journey through Barna Mia in picturesque Dryandra Woodland, 180km south-east of Perth.

No park entry fee / Admission fees apply

About this place.

Barna Mia is an animal sanctuary with a difference. Nestled in the heart of Dryandra Woodland National Park, south-east of Perth, Barna Mia is a place to discover threatened native marsupials in a natural setting, and experience the wonders of the woodland. Once the sun has set the action begins. A tour guide takes visitors on a delightful journey through the sanctuary. With the guide's special torches, you can see threatened native animals such as bilby, woylie, mala, quenda and boodie.

Many of Western Australia's native mammals have been eradicated from their former habitats because of predation by cats and foxes, cleared vegetation and changed fire regimes. Preservation of Dryandra's 28,000 hectares of bushland enabled several native species to survive.

Close supervision of young children is required. The tour is not recommended for children aged under five years old.

Based on its Mediterranean climate, its outstanding wine, its relaxed atmosphere and excellent surf zones Margaret River has become quickly a very popular holiday destination. We have the opportunity to enjoy some wine tasting at one of the most renowned vineries. In the afternoon we will visit the Margaret River Eagles Heritage, Australia’s largest wildlife center dedicated to birds of prey and owls. We take a short and relaxed walk of about 1km to see many different Australian raptor species in their hug aviaries. The highlight must be the flying display which conveys the natural behaviour and abilities of these fascinating birds.

Accommodation: Stay, Margaret River (Breakfast)

Day 6 Margaret River – Pemberton

PEMBERTON 4

The scenic drive “Caves Road” takes us through Boranup Forest’s pale-barked Karri Trees to picturesque Hamelin Bay. If we are lucky, we will be greeted by some wild sting rays in the shallow water of this beautiful bay! Hamelin Bay is one of the best places in Australia to spot wild sting rays up close. The gentle and friendly, yet completely wild sting ray population that live in the bay are unafraid of people. From here, our tour continues to Australia’s most south-westerly point, Cape Leeuwin. This is the point where the Indian and Southern Ocean meet. From here the nearest landmass is Africa to the west and Antarctica to the south. We then travel along the coast of the Southern Ocean through farmland into the Karri Forest region of Pemberton/Walpole.

Accommodation: Pemberton Hotel, Pemberton (Breakfast)

Day 7 Pemberton – Albany

After today’s breakfast, courageous visitors will have the opportunity to climb a spiral ladder to the platform of the “Gloucester Tree” in Pemberton. The Valley of the Giants, a section of forest appropriately named for its huge trees, is our next destination. Tree Top Walk offers an amazing bird’s eye view to this window of the past. Much of the vegetation in this region is unique to the southwest of Western Australia. In the afternoon we will visit a small reptile park where we get face to face with snakes, lizards and some local bird life. William Bay National Park awaits with its bizarre Elephant Rocks and popular swimming beach Green Pool. The colours of the ocean and coastline are beyond words and will inspire you. Today we will take a guided nocturnal tour in a tranquil sanctuary nestled in the heart of the close-by Dryandra Woodland. This is a place to discover threatened native marsupials in a natural setting, and experience the wonders of the woodland. Once the sun has set the action begins. With the guides special torches, you can see threatened native animals such as bilby, woylie, mala, quenda and boodie.

This made Donald Campbell the fastest man on both land and water. In Ongerup we will visit the Malleefowl Centre. During a walk through the aviaries, we learn a lot about the endangered malleefowls. We continue our drive to the south coast to Bremer Bay.

Accommodation: Bremer Bay Resort, Bremer Bay (Breakfast)

Day 10 Bremer Bay (Orca Whale Expedition)

BREMER BAY 1

The all-day expedition today out on the water will provide you with unforgettable memories that will surely be rememberd for a lifetime. We are going to visit one of the least explored places on earth. As the pristine and scenic bays and cliffs of one of the worlds most ancient coastlines slip from our sight, the sparkling turquoise waters change to the deep blue of the Southern Ocean. Seabirds fill the sky as we leave the continental shelf behind and the sea floor plummets up to 3,5 kilometers below our keels. This is the only place in Australia you can reliably encounter killer whales (orca), the ocean’s undisputed apex predator.

Accommodation: Bremer Bay Resort, Bremer Bay (Breakfast / Lunch)

Day 11 Bremer Bay – Esperance

ESPERANCE 6

After all the excitement of yesterday we take it easier today. Leisurely drive eastwards to Esperance where we will visit Cape Le Grand National Park. This beach is famous for its kangaroos which are often seen on the white sandy shoreline.

Accommodation: Hospitality Motel, Esperance (Breakfast)

Day 12 Esperance – Hyden

WAVE ROCK 3

Today you experience a scenic flight over Middle Island to view the dazzling pink Lake Hillier. It is rapidly becoming a ‘bucket-list’ experience for nature lovers from all over the world and one of the region’s best-kept secrets. According to scientists, many extremophile microbes, bacteria and organism play an important role in the colour of the astounding lake within an extremely high salinity environment. And truly, from a bird-eyes view, the lake appears a solid shiny pink. It is surrounded by a rim of white beaches and dense woodland. The lake is separates from the deep blue Southern Ocean by a narrow strip of white sand dunes, covered in vegetation. Back on land, y ou will enjoy a scenic drive along Great Ocean Drive with its many highlights and lookouts. Leaving the gorgeous Southern Ocean behind us, we are heading towards the spectacular Wave Rock in Hyden. There is enough time to explore and learn about the story of this unbelievable natural wonder.

Accommodation: Wave Rock Motel, Hyden (Breakfast)

Day 13 Hyden – Perth

PERTH 6

In York, a quaint short stroll in the oldest inland settlement of W.A. will take you back to the time of the first settlers. The old well-maintained and renovated houses boasting their original facades bring forth still today the atmosphere of the pioneer’s time. A visit to a Camel farm is another highlight where you will get valuable information and details about the history and modern use of the single-humped desert ships here in Australia. After an enjoyable travel back to Perth, the tour concludes at your hotel.

The adventure starts with a welcome meeting in Perth before we set out for the trendy seaside report of Geraldton. But this isn’t just any journey. We’ll stop off along the way to catch the largest dunes in WA and the mysterious alien-like limestone towers of the Pinnacles at Nambung National Park, as well as checking out the Leaning Trees of Greenough and lovely Jurien Bay, where you might spot a sea lion or two. In Geraldton, have a stroll around town before dinner, drinks, and a chance to get to know everyone.

After a leisurely breakfast, head to our first destination of the day, historical Northampton. Join your leader for a walk around Northampton, one of the oldest towns in Western Australia, and admire dozens of historically significant buildings dating back to the 1800s. You’ll also visit a First Nations art gallery to see some beautiful pieces being made, and if you are lucky have the chance to meet the artists. After you leave Northampton, you’ll visit the Pink Lake at Hutt Lagoon and spend time at Kalbarri National Park where you can appreciate the park’s diverse scenery including Nature’s Window, Z-Bend Gorge and the amazing Kalbarri Skywalk. It’s a bit of an ocean-themed day today. Jump on a boat at the Kalbarri Marina to learn about the local rock lobster industry – and even pull up some lobster pots yourself, and keep your catch to enjoy later that evening! Then it’s one sealife legend to another, as we head off to scenic Monkey Mia, where the local Dolphin population thrives. Stop via the Hamelin Pool Marine Nature Reserve for some ‘living fossils’, and one of Shark Bay’s picturesque lookout. Put your feet up at Monkey Mia, or hit the water, before an evening First Nations experience courtesy of the Nhanda and Malgana people. This is your chance to try the didgeridoo or traditional conch shell, and taste some bush tucker. (B)

After breakfast, spot dolphins with Parks & Wildlife rangers. The resident bottlenose dolphins at Monkey Mia come close to the shore often and you will learn about these animals and other local marine life. Enjoy some free time to relax this afternoon in paradise, the choice is yours: Relax on the stunning white beaches, take a walk for stunning photos, or sit by the bar with a drink and watch the wildlife pass by. Tonight you have the option to join an incredible sunset cruise and the chance to spot Dugongs in the wild. (B)

Then we visit the Gascoyne Aboriginal Heritage and Cultural Centre and learn about the region’s culture and country from its First Nations custodians. Relax tonight and take a stroll along the beautiful foreshore to a local pub and restaurant. (B)

A feast for the eyes awaits. After breakfast we stop to snap some pics of the Carnarvon Cactus Farm, one of the town’s quirkiest sights, before heading to Coral Bay, home to the World Heritage-listed Ningaloo Reef – we pass along the Gascoyne Food Trail. The trail features everything from bananas and avocados, to beans, beef, ice cream, and mangoes. At Ningaloo reef, the world’s largest fringing reef, we’ll embark on a glass-bottom boat tour and snorkel experience, to see up to 250 species of coral and 500 species of fish. Further along the coast we visit Vlamingh Head Lighthouse, with stunning views, then rest up in Exmouth to the sounds of the ocean. (B)

10 Day Perth to Adelaide Adventure Tour

Myself and 8 friends crossed the Nullarbor with Chris as our guide, driver, cook and allrounder. He was very considerate of adjusting our schedule to the weather, which wasn't the best some days. He was always chirpy, friendly, informative and as a tour guide myself, I found him to be on top of his game. Long driving days on this trip, but never boring. The places we stopped were varied, saw plenty of wildlife, caught the end of the wildfowers at Fitzgerald River NP and managed a great walk at Cape Le Grande NP before the weather blew in. I highly recommend this trip. Very professional, good communication and a great way to cross the country.

7 Day Perth to Exmouth Explorer Loop Tour

7 Day Perth to Exmouth Explorer Loop

It's an adventure, not a holiday Mar 2024 • Solo I wanted to see some of the west coast of Australia, which isn't as easy as the East Coast, especially if you don't have your own form of transport. This trip was perfect for that! There were about 22 of us in total, all varying ages, and some solo or with a friend or two, aswell as a wide range of nationalities. We were able to see some beautiful places, helping us to appreciate the natural world. We saw wild kangaroos, wild dolphins, turtles, and more if you chose to do an excursion. Everything was well organised, and it helps that the job to ensure it was organised was our leader, Geoff. He was able to ensure the smooth running of the tour, while we focussed on the experiences. Geoff told us about some of his favourite spots, enlightened us with his own stories and experiences, and took us to places we wouldn't have known about otherwise. Breakfasts, lunches, and dinners are included. This is mainly cereals or toast for breakfast, wraps for lunch, and a mixture of meals in the evenings. Everyone gets stuck in to set up, prepare, cook, and clean up afterwards. As Australia is a big country, there were long bus journeys, unfortunately, I feel the bus could have been more updated. It was tight between the seats, and I am only 5 foot 2. The only place for our legs was straight down, there was no room to put them underneath the seat in front of us, to stretch them out a little, as the seats have low backs. We also had a day bag with us on the bus, and this had to go by our feet as there was no where else to put it, such as over head compartments, or under the seats due to how little space there was. I felt bad for those who were taller. Our large bags were in a trailer attached to the bus, which I thought was a good idea. There were also no curtains or blinds on the windows. I was sat on the left side of the bus, and it got very hot due to the sun being that side. I put my hat and sunglasses on due to how bright it was, though I was then not able to feel the aircon as it was right above my head and if I had my hat on, I couldn't feel the air, so became quite hot. Due to being on the road for long periods of time, I feel these issues on the bus need to be looked at a bit more. We stopped for plenty of toilet/snack breaks at road houses/supermarkets. The accommodation was good for me, I chose the shared hostel accommodation. We didn't spend much time in the rooms. I was first concerned we may be sharing rooms with others outside of the tour although that was not the case. We shared with those on the tour, and the dorms were mixed. I think those with private rooms had a few reservations. It would have been nice to have been able to spend time at some of the places where we had our accommodation such as when we visited Monkey Mia, or Geraldton. We mainly got everywhere in the evenings, and left early morning. The trip is fast paced, and a full day at one, or both of these would have been great. I know this would add cost, and make the tour longer, but they seemed like lovely places to explore and almost everyone said they would have liked to have stayed at Monkey Mia for atleast a day. I personally loved the trip and seeing the different areas of Western Australia. It is not an area I heard too much about and I am glad I decided to do the tour. I would like to once again thank, Geoff for his fantastic work ethic, and showing us some wonderful scenery/wildlife in Western Australia. It was clear that he loves his job. I feel we all had a magical night on the beach while stargazing and seeing baby turtles. A night to remember! If you go to do this trip, make sure to take a fly net for your head. There are lots of them!

Perth to Exmouth, Karijini & Return Tour

Perth to Exmouth, Karijini & Return

What an awesome and fantastic experience the tour was! Our tour guides - Clark and Syd - were highly knowledgeable, friendly and patient, sharing their knowledge of and love for WA with the group. They ran the tour efficiently so we were always on schedule which was very important considering the long distances and the multitude of places the itinerary covered. The itinerary was amazing, allowing one to see a big chunk of WA raging from the beautiful beaches on the Indian Ocean through the ancient, rocky landscape of Karijini; to the austere beauty of the Western Australian desert - a treat for travel lovers who enjoy looking at the ever changing scenery out of the window of a moving vehicle. The accommodation and cooking arrangements were a great group bonding experience! Overall - a great and memorable holiday which I highly recommend.

What people love about Australia Tours from Perth

A great tour with an excellent driver/guide, Carlos, full of information, well organized and sensitive to our needs. Lots of wonderful places to see and experience from sunrise to sunset. Long bus rides at times and a full bus so little room to stretch out. But worth traveling the distances. Highly recommend the one way tour and fly out from Exmouth
The tour was excellent. Good direction at the departure site, great rhythms to the days of hitting all the significant tourist stops there and back, super lodging—AND best of all Lee, the driver/tour-leader. He is a star—affable/friendly, informative/knowledgable, hard-at-work in the background so all goes smoothly: ten out of five. I would definitely take another Pinnacle Tour.
Fantastic tour with a knowledgeable & super efficient guide. Great group. Beautiful scenery & wildlife. Beaches & mountains spectacular. Beautiful sunrise & sunsets. Lovely food, plenty of variety & enough of it. Sleeping in the swag a novel experience & much more comfortable than I expected. Definitely recommend this company.
