There's a reason 75 million people visit Orlando annually, and it isn't just the mouse. Don't get us wrong. Disney World is incredible and deserves a place on any theme park lover’s bucket list, but Orlando is so much more than its theme parks. It’s an ever-evolving city with vibrant parks, public art and award-winning restaurants. And that’s before you get to amazing day trips to the Kennedy Space Center or New Smyrna Beach .

I have family near Orlando and I’ve visited dozens of times through the years, usually for a week at a time. I’ve come to love this special place. Whether it’s your first trip to Orlando or you’re looking for something to do outside the theme parks, our expert guide to Orlando will help you make the most of your trip.

When should I go to Orlando?

There’s no wrong time to visit Orlando , but here are a few facts to inform your decision. First, no matter the time of year, holidays are crowded and expensive (this includes the days framing the actual holiday). There’s also the rainy season from May to October. Luckily, in a place as lovely as Florida, the rainfall is intense but mercifully brief.

Hurricane season is from June through November. In recent years, weather systems like Hurricane Ian have caused theme parks like Disney World and Universal Studios to close for multiple days. If you’re visiting Orlando during hurricane season, it’s best to book flexible airfare, lodging, rental car reservations, etc.

The high tourist season in Orlando is from March to April and June to August. Kids are typically out of school for spring and summer breaks, so the big attractions like theme parks are often crowded. Humidity is high, and temperatures are often in the 90s.

The shoulder season in Orlando is in May and September through November. In May, temperatures reach the mid to high 80s, and after the sweltering summer, they drop to the upper 70s in November. During the shoulder season, you’ll usually find better deals on lodging.

December is usually the low season (excluding Christmas through early January when the kids are on holiday break). The temperatures are cooler but exceedingly pleasant, with averages in the middle 70s. This is the time of year when you’ll usually get the best pricing as long you avoid school breaks and holidays.

How many days do you need to see Orlando?

Although you can easily spend longer and not regret it, the average visitor to Orlando spends 5-7 nights. A stay of this length ensures you’ll have time to visit the theme parks (if that’s on your itinerary), plus explore downtown Orlando and some Florida beaches.

Is it easy to get around in Orlando?

Most long-distance travelers fly into Orlando International Airport. If you’re staying at a Disney area hotel and don’t plan on spending much time outside the resort, you might find it cheaper to take the Mears Connect shuttle over an Uber or rental car, although this largely depends on your group size. The shuttle operates 24/7.

If you’re a Florida local, the recently debuted Brightline offers fast train service connecting Orlando to cities like Palm Beach , Fort Lauderdale and Miami . Alternatively, the Sun Rail offers train service with stops in Poinciana (about half an hour from Disney World), downtown Orlando, Kissimmee and DeBary.

Downtown Orlando has an excellent public transportation system. LYMMO provides free Bus Rapid Transit service seven days a week to major downtown destinations like Lake Eola Park or the Bob Carr Theater . The Lymmo does not provide service to the airport or theme parks. Or, enjoy the beautiful Florida weather and utilize Orlando’s bike and scooter share program .

What are the top things to do in Orlando?

I don’t know if you’ve heard, but Orlando has theme parks. Walt Disney World , Universal Studios , Legoland , etc, are all in the area. If these attractions are the reason for your visit, that’s wonderful. However, there are a lot of things to do in Orlando outside the theme parks.

Swans swim on glassy water at Lake Eola Park, with Orlando's skyline in the background

Embrace downtown Orlando

Don’t make the mistake of skipping downtown Orlando on your visit to the Sunshine State. Lake Eola Park is the heart of the city, with a paved, wheelchair-accessible walking trail circling the lake. Colorful gardens blossom against the backdrop of the Orlando skyline while swan boats (and real swans) swim in the water. A wheelchair lift was recently installed to make it easier for people with disabilities to enter the ADA-accessible swan boats. If you’re at Lake Eloa on a Sunday, check out the Orlando Farmer’s Market, where local vendors showcase seasonal produce, arts and crafts, plants and even homemade dog treats.

A whopping 48 Orlando restaurants were honored by the Michelin Guide in 2024, so be sure to arrive hungry. For a bucket list dining experience, the intimate Natsu Omakase has just two seatings per night and flies most of its seafood in from Japan. For a casual meal, it’s hard to beat Super Rico , with Columbian dishes like Churrasco or fried green plantains topped with steak, chicken and mushrooms.

While you’re walking around downtown, keep your eye open for public art. Orlando boasts over 900 paintings, sculptures, tapestries and mixed media displayed in its city hall, neighborhood centers, public buildings and parks.

Visit the Harry P. Leu Gardens

The Harry P. Leu Gardens is a 50-acre plant-life paradise. Since this is Florida, there is always something in bloom, and each trip to the gardens is different than the last. Throughout the year, roses, hibiscus, bananas, tree orchids and citrus trees fill the grounds with perfume and color. This is also home to the Historic Leu House Museum, which was originally built in 1888. Today, the mansion has been restored to offer visitors a glimpse back at the past.

Take in a Performance at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts

The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts has been recognized as one of the world's most acoustically sound arts venues. The building takes up two city blocks, offering multiple performance spaces, a school of the arts, event rooms and an outdoor plaza with a welcoming lawn. An ever-changing calendar of performances includes family-friendly programming, Broadway touring productions and local theater groups.

Geek out at Kennedy Space Center

Orlando is only 50 miles from the Kennedy Space Center , and it’s worth a side trip. You can easily spend the entire day there, so don’t short yourself on time. Attractions include encounters with real astronauts, hands-on activities like astronaut training simulators, and virtual reality experiences. Kids love it, and so do adults.

Manatees float in clear water at Blue Spring State Park outside of Orlando, Florida

Explore New Smyrna Beach

Drive an hour to New Smyrna Beach, where you’ll find 17 miles of sugar sand beaches, some of Florida’s best surfing waves, and a cute, walk-around-able downtown brimming with boutiques, art galleries and restaurants. Nearby Blue Springs State Park is a designated manatee refuge with hundreds of manatees from mid-November through mid-March that visitors can see via a wheelchair-accessible path and viewing platform.

My favorite thing to do in Orlando

My favorite thing to do in Orlando might seem a little cheesy if you’ve never been inside, but I always recommend Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition . Yes, there are Titanic museums elsewhere, but that doesn’t make this one any less worthwhile since each exhibition holds different artifacts. This one has more than 300 artifacts recovered from the wreckage and 500 personal items from passengers. Costumed actors wander through full-scale room recreations of the Titanic’s interior, pulling you into an eerie, immersive experience. A regular roster of programs includes dinner galas, formal teas and guide tours with rotating themes.

How much money do I need for Orlando?

  • Basic room for two: $100 a night (and up)
  • Basic Airbnb for two: $100 a night (and up)
  • Ticket for Mear Connect: $32.00 roundtrip for ages 10 and up, $26.00 roundtrip for ages 3-9 years old, children under 3 are free
  • LYMMO Bus Rapid Transit service in downtown Orlando: Free
  • Theme park ticket: varies, but you usually expect to spend at least $120 per person per day
  • Cup of coffee: $3.00
  • Price for a sandwich: $8.00
  • Dinner for two: $60 (and up)
  • Cocktail in downtown Orlando: $14 (and up)

The Perfect 3 Days in Orlando Itinerary (2024 Guide)

Picture of Chris Harvey

  • Last Updated: February 3, 2024

If you plan to travel to Orlando, this 3 days in Orlando itinerary will be the best place for you to start planning your trip!

Located in the middle of the sunny state of Florida , Orlando has become one of the most popular tourist destinations due to its variety of theme parks and central location to other popular attractions in Florida.

It is the perfect whole-family vacation spot and those who are a kid at heart!

The main attractions in Orlando are the two theme parks: Disney World and Universal Studios. But there are plenty of other fun things to do in Orlando to beat the theme park crowds!

Visiting the Kennedy Space Center is a great place to learn about the science behind space travel and it’s just a short 1-hour drive towards the east coast from Orlando.

Whatever your reason for wanting to travel to this sunny part of central Florida, this 3 day Orlando itinerary will get you started on a magical stay!

Table of Contents

Evening at Disney Springs

Evening at universal city walk, first option – explore i-drive activities, second option – explore downtown orlando: culture and arts, day 3 – day trip to kennedy space center (or theme park day #2), when to visit orlando, getting around orlando florida, budget accommodation – best western orlando gateway hotel, mid-range accommodation – universal’s endless summer resort – surfside inn & suites, luxury accommodation – castle hotel – autograph collection, budget – ana’s brazilian kitchen, mid-range – hard rock cafe, high-end – edie v’s prime seafood, how to spend a perfect 3 days in orlando itinerary.

Although you could easily spend your full 3 day Orlando itinerary on just theme parks, we’re going to give you a few more ideas on how to fill your time.

No doubt you’ll want to stop at Disney World, Magic Kingdom, or Universal Studios theme parks as part of your stay. But don’t get tied down spending all of your time in just one or two places.

This perfect Orlando itinerary will give you lots of ideas for how you can experience most of what the city has to offer and leave you ready to come back to experience more!

When it comes to theme parks, I highly highly recommend purchasing the Orlando CityPASS beforehand.

You can basically pick whichever theme parks you want to go to and save a bunch of money.

SPECIAL DEAL: Save money by buying the Orlando CityPass to get access to all the theme parks at a discount.

Day 1 – Theme Park of Your Choice

OK, so theme parks are likely the reason why you planned to visit Orlando in the first place.

You have your favorite theme park in mind, so we won’t try to talk you out of it.

We will share a few of our favorite things about each of the Disney parks to give you a better idea of how to spend your time on the first of your 3 days in Orlando.

You never know, maybe you’ll end up tacking on an extra day to visit another theme park!

My favorite theme park in Orlando is Universal Studios Florida, also known as Universal Orlando Resort.

I’ve been going to Universal Studios since I was a little kid and the park has changed a lot over the years, but mostly for the better. It’s a great spot for a family vacation.

Since the recent additions of the Harry Potter rides, and Universal’s Islands of Adventure have become increasingly more popular!

I can’t say I’m a huge Harry Potter fan. But exploring Hogsmeade in Islands of Adventure and Diagon Alley in Universal Studios Resort is a fun experience not to be skipped!

Ride The Hogwarts Train Between Parks

You truly feel like you’ve entered a different world. The butterbeer is delicious and plentiful and the thrilling rides are incredible.

Universal’s Islands of Adventure really does a great job of incorporating different themes and worlds. Imagination comes to life, movie and storybook characters become real, and the scenery is incredible. The different themes on the Islands of Adventure are so much fun no matter how old you are.

My favorite ride is the Hogwarts Express which transports you in between the parks. But don’t just go for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter alone!

Read Next: Check out our post on all of the best things to do in Florida!

The other areas of the parks and rides are great as well.

Though most of my favorite rides have since closed down (goodbye Back 2 the Future!), the new rides have fantastic modern technology.

The newly remodeled Incredible Hulk Coaster is a must, Revenge of the Mummy (my favorite!!), Spiderman and Transformer rides are a blast.

And kids will love Dr. Seuss Landing and Despicable Me Minion Mayhem .

But of course, there is also the whole Disney experience as well.

The Magic Kingdom is my favorite park in Walt Disney World. Magic Kingdom is home to Cinderella’s Castle and is the epitome of classic Disney!

Disney Magic Kingdom

I love joking around with the Pirates at the Pirates of the Caribbean ride.

And my favorite ride at Magic Kingdom will always be the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad .

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is another Disney theme park full of rides and characters. Most people visit Hollywood Studios for the Star Wars themed rides and attractions.

But the most fun of all at Walt Disney World is meeting and interacting with your favorite Disney Characters.

Definitely a must-do in the Magic Kingdom is having a character meal.

It is the best way to skip the long lines at the character meet and greets and you get to spend more time with your favorite Disney World characters!

You’ve probably had a fun-filled day at Universal Studios Florida or the Magic Kingdom.

At the end of the day, regardless of which theme parks you chose, you’re going to want to relax and enjoy yourself at the public boardwalk of either theme park.

You don’t have to have tickets to enjoy either place. But since you’ve spent the day in one of the parks you might as well round out the day at either Universal City Walk or Disney Springs.

Read Next: Have some extra time in the area? Check out these awesome day trips from Orlando !

Plan on going to Disney Springs hungry as it’s a huge dining mecca and is also a great place to purchase your souvenirs.

It’s free to enter and if you’re staying at a Disney resort there will be transportation to and from Disney Springs.

T-Rex , a dinosaur-themed restaurant, offers a fun atmosphere that the kids will thoroughly enjoy.

If you are visiting without kids, there are plenty of restaurants and bars geared toward a more mature audience.

Try The Edison for great American cuisine, cocktails, and fantastic live entertainment, or The Boathouse for delicious seafood.

I really enjoyed my sandwich from Earl of Sandwich , a great place to grab something quick to eat!

There is also plenty of fun to be had at Disney Springs from nightly live entertainment to so many attractions like the vintage amphibious cars, bowling alley and the NBA Experience .

While walking around and enjoying the sights you may come across your favorite Disney Character too!

Be sure to check the calendar for special events taking place at Disney Springs

READ MORE: Plan to do these amazing things in St. Augustine .

If you spent the day at the Universal Orlando Resort then plan on having dinner and buying your souvenirs at Universal City Walk.

It’s located right outside the gates of both parks. In fact, you have to walk through City Walk to get to the entrances of the theme park!

Universal Studios Orlando Sign

You could plan on taking a break at your hotel after spending the day at Universal and then come back after 6 pm, parking is free then!

Universal City Walk offers great nightlife, live music and entertainment, fantastic restaurants, and shopping.

I recommend eating at Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar or Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville .

But save room for a decadent dessert at Toothsome Chocolate Emporium!

You may be able to catch an awesome rock concert at the Hardrock Cafe and don’t forget about the unforgettable Blue Man Group performance that shouldn’t be missed!

Be sure to check the calendar for special events at Universal’s City Walk.

There is so much delicious food and entertainment to enjoy in an Orlando itinerary!

Day 2 – Exploring Orlando’s International Drive

You can walk, or trolley, through today’s activities. They’re going to be numerous, and you’re going to spend a lot of energy enjoying yourself.

If you prefer the trolley to save some calories for all the fun you’ll have, pick up your unlimited ride pass here .

To begin day 2 of your 3 days in Orlando itinerary you’ll want to make your way to International Drive (I-Drive) in downtown Orlando.

If your hotel doesn’t offer a complimentary breakfast, head to Denny’s at the north end of I-Drive and grab a quick and filling meal to start your day.

The first option for day 2 of your Orlando vacation is to start heading down I-Drive and check out the following places:

The first stop on your list should be a fast and furious race on one of Orlando’s fastest electric go-karts at I-Drive Nascar .

Race down the indoor track at speeds up to 45 mph that will fulfill your need for speed and leave you wanting to race again and again!

Lucky for you they offer a 2 race special, so plan on spending at least 30 mins here driving the go-karts around the ¼ mile-long track.

Coming up next on i-Drive is the Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition or you can choose to explore Ripley’s Believe It or Not.

Both are interactive museum-like experiences.

Titanic takes you on a journey back in time to experience what it was like to be on the enormous ship with authentic artifacts and full-scale rooms.

Go over to this website to buy your tickets for the Titanic exhibit .

Ripley’s Believe It or Not is an odditorium with bizarre events, oddities, and unusual artifacts collected from all over the world.

Choose to visit just one or both, but be prepared to spend a couple of hours at each attraction.

Next experience the extreme sport that is skydiving without actually jumping out of a plane!

At iFly indoor skydiving , you will suit up and enter a state-of-the-art glass wind tunnel and be suspended in the air.

Anyone from the ages of 3 to 103 can experience the weightlessness of free-falling or bodyflight as they call it at iFly.  Buy tickets here!

Or you can choose to do Wonderworks . It is the crazy looking upside building that looks like it was picked up by a tornado and dropped from the sky.

This is a fantastic place for families as it is an interactive science and learning museum with tonnes of hands-on exhibits created to make learning fun.

Wonderworks is one of my favorite places on i-drive and I don’t even have kids!

I enjoyed experiencing what a massive earthquake would feel like, lying on a bed of nails and trying on a spacesuit in the space discovery zone.

After exploring the different zones try your hand at the glow in the dark ropes course and a game of laser tag!

Another stop on I-Drive is the Chocolate Kingdom . But be warned, if you visit here before dinner time you may spoil your meal!

You will learn where chocolate comes from and how it is made into the delicious chocolate treats you enjoy from stores.

You can even make your own chocolate and devour it there or take home to enjoy later.

READ MORE: Plan the perfect 3 days in Miami itinerary .

Alternatively, if you’d rather enjoy more culture and the outdoors you could skip the touristy areas of I-Drive and visit a few of Orlando’s several beautiful parks, gardens and museums .

Have breakfast near your hotel and then call a taxi or Uber to take you to downtown Orlando.

First, check out the Orlando Science Center . For families and those interested in natural science, interactive exhibits, and more, the Orlando Science Center is a fun place to go. The Orlando Museum of Art is just next door so you can head thereafter.

If you’re into shopping, check out the Florida Mall or the Orlando Premium Outlets .

For a bit of nature, head to the Harry P Leu Gardens , a beautiful and historic botanical garden and house.

If you still want to see more parks after the Harry P Leu Gardens, spend the afternoon relaxing at Lake Eola Park . You can rent paddleboats or simply chill out in the shade.

Lake Eola Park isn’t far from Thornton Park , home to the Orlando Farmer’s Market and lots of trendy cafes and boutique stores.

Lake Eola

After you’ve had your fill of enjoying art and relaxing in nature, work your way to International Drive.

Last you will want to end up at Icon Park . Arrive near sunset and you can ride The Wheel while witnessing a beautiful sunset over the Orlando skyline.

The Wheel is a massive state of the art climate controlled Ferris wheel. It is the best place to observe the city skyline when visiting Orlando!

If this sounds like your cup of tea (and why wouldn’t it?!) then buy your ticket online here .

You can choose to eat dinner at Icon Park or go out for a night on the town at Universal City Walk or Disney Springs and enjoy dinner there. The choice is yours!

The Wheel Orlando

On the last of your 3 days in Orlando itinerary, you have the option to take a day trip to one of the most historic parts of nearby Florida or head back to your favorite (or the other) theme park.

The Kennedy Space Center is NASA’s primary launch center .

You can hire a private tour of the entire center’s grounds and see the Launch Control Center , see where the rockets are prepared for launching, the astronaut dormitories, and the space station processing facility.

But the main area where all visitors are welcome is the museum. There you can see important rocket artifacts and memorabilia and get up close to the Space Shuttle Atlantis .

Kennedy Space Center

Tour the grounds in the morning and then enjoy the afternoon going through the interactive exhibits in the museum while learning what it would be like to be an astronaut.

You may also have the chance to see a rocket launch, as they are still actively using the grounds to launch SpaceX rockets!

There’s always a massive group here though, so I’m going to share one of my favorite travel hacks for the Kennedy Space Centre:

Buy a ‘ Skip the Line’ ticket before you arrive , so you can just walk straight on in. 100% worth it.

Returning from KSC on Hwy 528 will bring you right back to the heart of Orlando.

From here you can pick up where you left off at any of the evening attractions.

Take a ride on The Wheel or spend the evening at either Universal City Walk or Disney Springs.

Depending on when you are there, you may even be able to catch a concert at the House of Blues or a Cirque du Soleil show at Disney Springs. Disney and Cirque du Soleil have a collaborative show called “Drawn To Life” which is a really cool option.

Or look for performers at Hard Rock Cafe at Universal City Walk.

However you choose to wrap up the evening, you’ll be certain to have spent your 3 days in Orlando vacation in grand fashion!

Orlando Travel Guide

Now that you know how to spend 3 days in Orlando, here is a little more information about when to visit the city, how to get around, where to stay and what to eat.

Whether you are on an Orlando family vacation or you’re visiting without kids, these accommodation, transport, and dining recommendations will suit anyone.

Winter and Spring are the most popular times of year to visit Orlando Florida with the busiest time of year being Spring break.

The weather is more predictable and the temperatures mild, thus more inviting for tourists to travel to the area. Just be aware, places like Disney World will be super crowded.

To beat the family crowds, plan on traveling to Orlando when schools are not on break, usually in the middle of November , beginning of December and most of January and February .

Summer and Fall can be very hot, humid, and expect thunderstorms in the afternoons.

If you can only visit in the Summertime, plan on hitting the outdoor theme parks in the morning when it’s still cool out and then spend the afternoons somewhere indoors in A/C and when it’s raining outside.

June through the beginning of November is hurricane season and is a very unpredictable time of year weather-wise. So be prepared to cancel plans or any outdoor excursions you have booked.

Orlando is a spread-out city, but most of the top Orlando attractions and theme parks aren’t far from one another. So if the Disney World theme parks are the main activities on your Orlando itinerary, transport is quite straightforward.

If you are staying at one of the theme park resorts, you can count on there being a shuttle to transport you to and from either Disney World, Magic Kingdom or Universal Orlando and the other attractions.

If you are staying at a hotel on I-Drive, there is a great hop on hop off trolley you can purchase passes for that will take you to all of the best attractions on the main strip.

But since Orlando is such a popular destination for tourists, taxis and Ubers should be a dime a dozen and another great way to get around the city.

If you don’t mind finding and paying for parking at the different attractions then you could look into rental cars and have a more personalized experience touring different areas of Orlando. A rental car definitely gives you more flexibility, but parking can be pretty hectic, especially during peak season.

Orlando International Airport isn’t far from all the attractions, which is convenient as well!

The best way to get around is to rent a car and explore on your own! We recommend Rental Cars , which has the largest range of vehicles for the best value on the market.

Where to Stay in Orlando

Orlando is big and accommodation options stretch out across the city.

Because most of the activities we recommend to do during your 3 days in Orlando itinerary are close to the city center we’re recommending the following hotel options along International Drive.

This way you will spend less time driving around and more time enjoying your next family adventure in Orlando Florida!

Located just one block off International Drive in the heart of Orlando, the Best Western Orlando Gateway Hotel offers you the most bang for your buck when it comes to proximity to things to do in Orlando.

But if you wanted to relax, you can do so with a heated pool, two outdoor hot tubs and onsite dining options.

Enjoy rooms with WiFi, flatscreen televisions and kitchenettes and catch a free shuttle from the hotel to attractions around town.

If you’re a fan of Universal Studios then this is the place for you. At the northern end of International Drive, Universal’s Endless Summer Resort gives you great amenities for your stay.

But more importantly, you get early access to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Universal’s Volcano Bay parks.

Free shuttles transport you to/from the park and Universal’s City Walk throughout the day.

And if you need some downtime at the hotel, relax by the pool, enjoy the on-site game room and feast on a variety of meal options at the food court.

This is definitely the place to stay for a binge on all things Universal.

If you’re looking for luxury hotels when visiting Orlando Florida, check out the Castle Hotel, Autograph Collection .

Located on the southern end of International Drive, the Castle Hotel offers a luxurious feel just minutes from all of the Orlando attractions like Hollywood Studios, Universal Orlando, and Universal’s Islands of Adventure.

With a pool, hot tubs, poolside bar and hotel room service it will be hard to convince yourself to go out and explore Orlando when you stay here.

But it will be nice to return to after the long and busy days in an Orlando itinerary.

Best Restaurants In Orlando

Orlando has numerous restaurant options with choices of nearly every international flavor.

You can even find tasty meals of all sorts within the various theme parks you are bound to visit.

Here are a few options worth checking out during your 3 days in Orlando Florida.

For a great deal on a big Brazilian meal check out Ana’s Brazilian Kitchen .

Known for its traditional chicken and beef plates with delicious sides of various rice, beans and yucca, you’re not going to regret stopping in for a bite to eat.

Located in Universal’s City Walk, Hard Rock Cafe will be sure to fill you up with some good, classic American food to keep you fueled up throughout the day.

Famous for delicious burgers and ribs and a wide selection of drinks, Hard Rock combines meals and entertainment in such a way that it’s worth stopping in while you’re in the area.

As the name suggests, Edie V’s Prime Seafood offers a menu chock full of delicious seafood options.

From Chilean Sea Bass, salmon and lobster options to swordfish steaks and filet mignon, you’re covered when it comes to luxurious dining.

Orlando Itinerary: Best Time to Visit

Orlando is located in the central part of the U.S. state of Florida.

The best time to visit Orlando is from March to May when temperatures average in the low 80s.

Another popular time to visit is between September and November when crowds and prices are more manageable, and when temperatures are in the mid-80s.

For those looking to visit Orlando during the summer months, Orlando offers the same great attractions, but with higher temperatures (90+ during the day) and humidity to deal with.

It is very important to learn how to stay cool in the Florida heat when visiting during these months.

Additional planning tip: The Orlando theme parks are most busy during the summer months and over holiday breaks when kids are off from school.

This ultimate guide to visiting Orlando provides a complete 6-day itinerary that includes theme parks and the best Orlando attractions! Find out where to eat, sleep, and play on the best Orlando family vacation!

Orlando Itinerary Ideas

Due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, many of the Florida attractions you’ll read about have special health and safety measures in place. Likewise, some events may be temporarily suspended. Please check each attraction’s website for details before your travel.

Below you can find suggested Orlando vacation itinerary ideas from one to six days.

(Many people refer to this when planning an Orlando itinerary for 5 days, as that is a popular length of time to stay.)

The itinerary suggestions are based on our personal experiences and are filled with insider tips for visiting Orlando for the first time.

(Read here if you’re specifically looking for things to do in Orlando for adults !)

No two Orlando vacations will be exactly the same, however, so use these itinerary suggestions as a guide.

You’ll need to adjust your itinerary as needed to account for weather, where you stay, how much time you spend at each attraction, and the varying interests of your travel party.

Our recent Orlando itinerary was primarily a Walt Disney World vacation as well as includes some of the other most fun things to do in Orlando .

*All of our top recommended restaurants, landmarks, and attractions are bolded. Their physical locations fit into the flow of this itinerary. If you choose to substitute a restaurant or attraction in their place, be sure to adjust the timing of your itinerary accordingly.

Orlando Itinerary: Day 1

  • Arrival day!
  • Check-in to your Orlando accommodations and get settled in.
  • Afterward, head to Disney Springs for an evening of shopping and entertainment. Have dinner at the #1 rated restaurant by USA Today, The Boathouse .

Where We Stayed in Orlando

We did not hit up a theme park or do anything crazy upon our first day arriving in Orlando (I recommend this!).

Instead, we simply checked into our hotel, spent the afternoon by the pool, relaxed, and got a good night’s rest.

We felt that this was vital in order to be energized for the days ahead.

Our choice of accommodations was Holiday Inn Resort Orlando Lake Buena Vista , which far exceeded our expectations.

Orlando Itinerary: Off Site Disney hotel pool

Located a short distance from both Disney World (8 miles) and Universal Studios (9 miles), this resort is prime real estate for being central to all of the Orlando action.

Priced at less than $100/night, booking here was also one of the ways we traveled on a budget during this family vacation.

Find our detailed review and a recap of its family-friendly amenities on our dedicated post about Holiday Inn Resort Lake Buena Vista; our favorite off-site hotel near Disney !

Additional planning tip: A feature of IHG properties, kids eat free at Holiday Inn Resort Lake Buena Vista.

The presence of an on-site Applebees here means that with each paid adult meal, the kids get their own Applebees meal at no cost! This is incredibly convenient and cost-effective.

Disney Springs

No family vacation in Orlando would be complete without a stroll around the reinvented Disney Springs!

Disney Springs  is a themed retail, dining, and entertainment center inspired by Florida’s charming waterfront towns. Four distinct neighborhoods―The Landing, Marketplace, West Side, and Town Center—are built around bubbling ponds and springs.

Highlights here include Amphicar tours (a cross between a car and a boat), helium balloon rides, world-class shopping, and the biggest Star Wars memorabilia retailer known to man.

Additional planning tip: If you’re looking for some fun date night ideas (without the kids!) while you’re in Orlando, here are some fun things to do in Orlando for adults .

Orlando Itinerary: Day 2

  • Start off your Orlando itinerary at none other than, Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom !
  • Grab coffee and donuts at Main Street Bakery as you head into the park.
  • Once inside, you’ll realize there is so much to do and it is hard to pull yourself away. For this reason, plan to enjoy both lunch and dinner at one of the many Magic Kingdom restaurants on-site.

Magic Kingdom

Our trip to Orlando was primarily a Disney-themed visit with the intention of visiting 3 of the 4 Disney parks.

Ultimately, with this being our first time taking the kids to Orlando or any of the Disney parks, we undoubtedly had to start off with a visit to Magic Kingdom .

Knowing that we wanted to jam-pack as much as possible into our time there, we arrived first thing in the morning and executed our 1-day Magic Kingdom itinerary .

After an absolutely amazing day , we returned to our hotel for a night swim and a Disney movie by the pool before falling fast asleep.

Additional planning tip: Maximize your time at Magic Kingdom during your Orlando itinerary by utilizing our exclusive Disney Fastpass secrets to best structure your day!

Orlando Itinerary: Day 3

  • Spend the entire day touring Epcot .
  • Enjoy dining at one of the many delicious restaurants at Epcot (there are literally so many to choose from!).

Next up on our 6-day Orlando itinerary was to spend an entire day at Epcot .

We knew we were in for a real treat when visiting here, for Epcot is home to both rides and attractions, as well as the World Showcase.

Needless to say, we loved it here!

And once again, after making the most of our 1-day itinerary at Epcot , we left feeling happy and blessed – with a tummy full of pizza from world-famous Via Napoli !

Don’t forget to stay for the new  Epcot Forever  fireworks display that replaced 20-year park staple IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth.

The best thing about Epcot Forever is that it can be viewed anywhere within Epcot that offers a clear view of the World Showcase Lagoon

Orlando Itinerary: Day 4

  • Take a break from the theme parks and head to the beach. Daytona Beach that is! You’re in Florida, after all!
  • Afterward, head back to Orlando and take a stroll around the Disney Boardwalk .
  • Eat at the ESPN Sports Club or another nostalgic restaurant on the Boardwalk.

Daytona Beach

On the first of our Disney non-park days when visiting Orlando, we chose to spend the day at the beach.

Daytona Beach is located a convenient 73 miles from Orlando and provides so many amazing opportunities for family fun!

Though there is so much to see and do directly in Orlando, I could not go without dipping my toes into the ocean while visiting the beautiful state of Florida.

We have so many memories from the Daytona Beach family fun that we experienced during our 6-day Orlando itinerary!

Additional planning tip: Day 4 could be spent venturing 65 miles to Cocoa Beach instead. Pair it with a visit to the nearby Kennedy Space Center.

ESPN Sports Club

We spent the evening of day 4 walking around the Disney Boardwalk.

The Disney Boardwalk is home to several gorgeous Disney-themed resorts, shops, and restaurants.

And yes, you are walking on a real wooden boardwalk, complete with street performers and views of a gorgeous lake.

To appease the sports fanatics in my family we enjoyed dinner at ESPN Sports Club .

Additional planning tip: A visit to Disney’s Boardwalk allows you to scope out several of the higher-end Disney Resorts. The awesome scenery and nautical vibe made this evening one of the highlights of our Orlando itinerary.

I would totally recommend a visit here!

Orlando Itinerary: Animal Kingdom

Orlando Itinerary: Day 5

  • Enjoy an awesome day at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom !
  • Grab coffee and pastries at Kusafiri Coffee Shop & Bakery as you make your way in.
  • Pack a picnic lunch in your Disney day bag !
  • In keeping with the animal-theme, enjoy dinner at the gigantic Rainforest Cafe located on-site.

Animal Kingdom

Little did we know that day 5 would end up being our favorite day at our now favorite theme park, Animal Kingdom .

The combination of animals, rides, shows, and attractions brings this place to life while making you feel right at home!

The overall vibe at Animal Kingdom is laid back, yet bustling with plenty of activity.

The safari-themed landscape is welcoming, yet rustic. Simply put, we wouldn’t change our 1-day Animal Kingdom itinerary for the world!

Rainforest Cafe

To stick with the animal theme, we stayed on-site and had dinner at Rainforest Cafe .

If you haven’t been to a Rainforest Cafe before, prepare yourself to be wow-ed!

Dancing gorillas, simulated rain showers, and the famous Volcano dessert make this the perfect experience to add yet another couple hours of joy into your day.

Universal Studios, Orlando

Orlando Itinerary: Day 6

  • Enjoy loads of other family-friendly activities located in Orlando.
  • If you’re up for more theme park fun, visit Universal Orlando Resort! Hit up either Universal Studios or Universal’s Islands of Adventure (the #1 theme park in the world!).
  • Don’t forget to end your trip by attending a world-famous Disney dining show, the Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue .

Orlando Activities

There are literally so many attractions in Orlando that it is impossible to see and do them all in one visit.

This is very important to understand when planning your Orlando itinerary for 5 days if there are a lot of attractions that you’re looking to do.

In other words, spend day 6 doing various other activities to make your Orlando, Florida family vacation a memorable one.

For us, we visited off-site souvenir shops, went miniature golfing, and visited Gatorland (to see the ‘Florida gators’ of course!).

Other popular non-theme park ideas include Boggy Creek Airboat Rides, Orlando Tree Trek Adventure Park, Revolution Off-Road, and Discovery Cove.

Looking for a cool down? Consider some water park fun at either Disney’s Blizzard Beach or Universal’s Volcano Bay.

Last, you can opt for additional theme park options such as Legoland, Seaworld, and our favorites (with links to a full itinerary!) Universal Studios , or Islands of Adventure .

Orlando CityPass

Hands-down, if you plan on doing a lot of various activities while in Orlando, check out the  Orlando CityPASS .

You’ll save up to 50% at the top Orlando attractions listed above by purchasing the Orlando CityPASS here !

Orlando Itinerary: Stage performance and dancers

Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue

*Temporarily unavailable. Check the Disney website for updates.

We ended our 6-day Disney World itinerary by attending a highly rated, incredibly popular Disney dining show.

The Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue is Disney’s longest-running dinner theater show and continues to impress sold-out crowds on a daily basis.

Attending a dining event on a non-park day was fabulous as we did not have to rush through a park and/or worry about making our reservation time. We just got to si mply show up , and enjoy!

We loved our time at the Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue so much that we wrote an entire blog post about it!

Orlando Vacation: Getting There

Here are my recommended travel resources to plan your Orlando itinerary whether it be arriving by airplane, personal vehicle, or RV.

Use the  Skyscanner  app to search hundreds of airlines, car rentals, and travel agencies to find unbeatable prices. Don’t forget to do a whole month’s search and to set flight alerts to keep you on top of securing a great deal:

Though most people arrive in Orlando by air (via the local Orlando International Airport), road-tripping to Orlando is also an extremely popular means of transportation to this vacation hub.

We decided to take on the road and travel 24 hours by mini-van from our home state of Minnesota to the city of Orlando.

Having gone into our adventure with a really good attitude, we loved experiencing this epic family road trip with one another.

Additional planning tip:  We have compiled our essential  tips for planning a family road trip  and how to create  road trip goodie bags  to help inspire you to consider a long-haul family road trip!

How to Get Around

Orlando is definitely not a walkable city, instead, it was planned as a car-friendly city.

The easiest way to get around Orlando is by car, which is why I highly recommend renting one when visiting there.

If not, check to see if your hotel/resort has complimentary transportation to Orlando attractions.

Likewise, look into rideshare services like Uber and Lyft as they are fabulous options for travelers who don’t want the expense or liability of a rental car.

Using Uber Orlando or Lyft Orlando can make getting around the theme parks easy, especially when you don’t want to rely on sporadic shuttle buses.

Where to Stay in Orlando

Where to stay when visiting Orlando may be one of the most complicated choices of your family vacation.

There are literally SO MANY places to stay in and around Orlando whether it be at high-end Disney-themed resorts, local hotels, or vacation rental condos, homes, and townhomes.

Your final selection will be based on price, availability, and on how far you’re willing to travel to the theme parks.

The most popular places to stay in Orlando include Hyatt Regency Orlando , JW Marriott Orlando Grande Lakes , Caribe Royale Orlando , and finally, Walt Disney World Dolphin .

Love this suggested itinerary. It’s perfect.

Thanks to Nicole! There is so much to do in Orlando that it is impossible to do everything in 1 trip 🙂

I would really love to take my boys to Disney World someday. We took them to Disneyland Paris a few years ago, but I have fond memories of the one in Florida. It would be nice to go with my boys! 🙂

Thanks for sharing!

You’re welcome! Disneyland Paris would be a fabulous experience! Let me know if you ever make it to Disney World in Orlando 🙂

This is a great itinerary for 6 days in Orlando! I’ve been wanting to do the Hoop Dee Doo Review. Definitely saving for our next visit!!

Yes, the Hoop Dee Doo was a highlight! I enjoyed getting to tour around the Wilderness Resort just as much as the show itself. So much to explore on the Disney property!

What a fun-filled itinerary! I haven’t been to Orlando in well over 15 years. I remember that Universal Studios theme park was my favorite back then. I love the beach day suggestions on this itinerary – I didn’t realize that they were so close.

Orlando is definitely a family-fun packed destination! You definitely have to be ready for the crowds, however 🙂

Great itinerary! We would love to visit Orlando soon! Magic Kingdom would be at the top of our list. 🙂

I’m glad that you like it! Magic Kingdom was a hit…this year we are going to Universal Studios for more of the ‘thrill’ rides.

Orlando Day Tips

Orlando on a budget, orlando traveling tips, what to pack for orlando, plan your orlando vacation with aaa.

Going to Orlando without a plan is like going to the beach without sunscreen — it’s technically possible, but you probably shouldn’t attempt it, especially if it’s your first trip. Known as “The City Beautiful,” Orlando is home to several world-famous theme parks, championship golf courses, award-winning spas and resorts and so much more, which is why it’s one of our top travel destinations . If you visit without a plan, you’re sure to miss out on something great, either because you didn’t know about it or you couldn’t get in at the last minute.

We’ve been helping AAA members plan trips to Orlando for decades, and we’re sharing our knowledge with you in this comprehensive travel guide. We’ll help you figure out every step of your trip, from how to get there to what to pack and everything in between.

orlando travel wycieczki

The best way to get to Orlando depends on where you’re coming from. If you’re anywhere in the Midwest or on the East Coast, you can easily get to Orlando by car, but visitors from the Western United States will probably want to book a flight to avoid multiple days in the car.

Out-of-state visitors can get to Orlando by taking either I-75, which runs north-south along the Gulf Coast to Tampa, or I-95, which runs north-south along the Atlantic Coast to Miami. Then cut to Orlando using I-4, which runs east-west through Orlando or Florida’s Turnpike (State Road 91), a tollway that runs north-south from Florida City to Miami.

The Orlando International Airport (MCO) is conveniently located in Orlando, about 15 minutes from most major attractions and downtown Orlando. More than 10 airlines, including Southwest, Delta, United and American, all provide service to Orlando, and the airport is large but easy to navigate. However, the airport sees 54 million travelers annually and can get pretty congested during the peak travel season.

Once you arrive, you can take a cab or rideshare to your hotel, but be prepared to spend upward of $40, especially during peak times. Most hotels and resorts offer free or paid shuttles to and from the airport, but you’ll want to call your hotel or resort for details. If you prefer to drive yourself, the Orlando airport has several major rental car agencies, including AAA partners Hertz, Thrifty and Dollar Car Rentals .

You can also fly into the Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) . Located about 45 minutes northwest of Orlando, it services smaller regional airlines and private planes, but you may find a cheaper flight there than to the main airport.

If you live along the Eastern Seaboard, you can also take an Amtrak train to one of four Orlando train stations. The Orlando and Kissimmee stations are both about 35 minutes from Walt Disney World.

Two trains service Orlando: the Silver Meteor Train and the Silver Star Train , both running from New York City to Miami. The train ride duration depends on where you start, but expect a 22-to-23.5-hour ride from New York to Orlando. The trip takes longer than driving, but it’s more comfortable and is a great option if you want to avoid flying.

Tickets start at $100 for a one-way coach ticket, but increase based on the type of ticket you want and your starting point.

You can also get to Orlando by bus. Several bus services, including Greyhound and Megabus have routes through Orlando. Ticket prices and duration vary based on your origin point.

Car is the best way to get around Orlando. While a public transportation system exists, traveling from one attraction to another often requires multiple transfers or takes a while.

Driving in Orlando

One of the best things about Orlando is that the road systems developed around the major attractions as they were built, so it’s easy to get to them. But due to the large number of tourists during peak travel season, you’ll probably run into traffic. Expansion construction is also year-round, leading to road closures and traffic delays.

Downtown Orlando is fairly easy to navigate, with a grid system built around the two main thoroughfares: Central Boulevard and Orange Avenue. Several streets are one-way, so pay careful attention to signs as you drive.

International Drive is the main artery of the tourist area. As a result, it’s Orlando’s busiest road, both in vehicular and pedestrian traffic, so be prepared to take it slow.

Public Transportation in Orlando

Orlando has several public transportation options for tourists and residents. Before hopping on, check routes, schedules, fares and other important information.

LYNX Bus Service

The primary bus provider for Orange, Osceola and Seminole Counties, LYNX bus lines run to almost every major attraction in Orlando, but you may have to transfer lines on your journey, depending on your starting point. Operation times vary by route, so check the schedule to avoid being stranded.

LYMMO Downtown Circulator

This bus service provides free transportation within downtown Orlando, including International Drive and Orlando International Airport. You can drive downtown, park your car in one of the city’s parking garages for the day and then explore using the LYMMO service.

I-Ride Trolley

If you’re exploring the restaurants, shopping and attractions on International Drive, take the I-Ride Trolley. The trolley runs daily from 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. seven days a week, and fares start at $2.

Commuter Rail Services

Orlando has three commuter rail systems that can take you outside Orlando for day trips.

  • Amtrak: You can catch an Amtrak train in Orlando to more than 15 Florida destinations, mainly along the East Coast.
  • Brightline: The express high-speed intercity passenger train connects Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach and Miami and has begun operations .
  • SunRail: The commuter service operates Monday through Friday, with one-way fares starting at $2 and round-trip fares at $3.75. It travels a 49-mile route with 16 stations between DeBary and Poinciana.

Parking in Orlando

Prices for parking in Orlando depend on where you are and the type of parking you use.

If you’re heading downtown, privately owned parking facilities vary widely, but city-owned parking facilities have the following rates:

  • Start at $2 per hour
  • Pay a flat $8 fee if you arrive between 5:30 and 7 a.m. and leave before 5 p.m.
  • $1 per hour
  • Free between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m., on Sundays, and all city holidays
  • $2 per hour
  • $10 for a weekend/event rate

You may be able to find some free parking spots along Park Avenue in Winter Park , but they fill up quickly, especially during peak hours.

See a list of all city-owned parking garages to locate the garage nearest your destination, or contact the City of Orlando Parking Division at 407-246-2155 or via email at [email protected] .

Theme park parking also varies widely. The good news is that most theme parks have plenty of parking. The bad news is that the cheaper the parking, the farther you’ll have to walk to the entrance. Some hotels and resorts offer complimentary shuttle service to the major theme parks, so ask before you book your stay.

Here’s what you can expect to pay at the major theme parks:

  • Walt Disney World: Starts at $25 per day
  • Universal Studios Orlando: Starts at $27 per day

Best Time To Visit Orlando

The best time to visit Orlando depends on why you’re traveling and your goals. The busiest times are the summer when kids are out of school and between Thanksgiving and New Year’s when people come to Orlando to celebrate the holidays .

If your goals include saving a few bucks or avoiding the crowds, it’s best to go during off-peak travel times: January through mid-February or September through Thanksgiving. School is usually in session during these times, so people with kids are less likely to take a vacation. Watch out for three-day holiday weekends like Labor Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day, since families may choose to travel to Orlando for a long weekend. You’ll also want to avoid Halloween since both Disney World and Universal Studios have special Halloween-themed events that tend to draw crowds.

If you want the best weather for your trip to Orlando, aim to travel from March through May. The weather will be perfect for spending the day exploring Orlando’s attractions: highs in the 80s with lows in the 50s and lots of sunshine with low humidity. September through November also has decent temperatures, but it’s hurricane season, so you risk canceling your trip at the last minute. December through February is also a good time to visit as long as you don’t mind skipping the water rides and wearing a light jacket since the highs will only be in the low 70s.

Orlando’s main attractions are its theme parks, earning it the nickname “The Theme Park Capital of the World.”

Disney World

orlando travel wycieczki

With more than 58 million visitors annually, Disney World is one of the main reasons people travel to Orlando. With its own restaurants, shops and attractions, the Disney World campus is essentially its own small city.

Experience the classic Disney magic in Magic Kingdom, soar through Pandora at Animal Kingdom, tour the Star Wars universe at Hollywood Studios and eat and drink your way through the world in Epcot. Meet your favorite characters, scream on heart-pounding rides and enjoy nightly fireworks shows.

Once you purchase your tickets, you’ll also need to make reservations for entrance to the parks. Avoid long wait times with Lightning Lanes and Genie+ (which replaced the Fast Pass).

  • Cost: $109 to $189, depending on park and date , but you can save up to 30 percent with your AAA membership
  • Duration: Most people spend one day per park

Universal Orlando

orlando travel wycieczki

Universal Orlando has three distinct parks: Universal Studios Orlando, Universal Islands of Adventure and Universal Volcano Bay, its water park. There are currently more than 30 rides to enjoy, with a new park, Epic Universe, expected to open in 2025.

Harry Potter fans can shop in Diagon Alley and break out of Gringotts, ride the Hogwarts Express to Hogsmeade, get a wand and take a forbidden journey through the Hogwarts grounds. Experience Jurassic Park’s dinosaurs on one of its two themed rides, immerse yourself in the world of The Mummy or team up with superheroes like Spiderman and the Hulk. There’s plenty for kids to do, too, with themed lands including Dr. Seuss, Woody Woodpecker and Minions.

  • Cost: Starts at $80, depending on the park and day , but you can save up to 30 percent with your AAA membership
  • Duration: 1-5 days

LEGOLAND, located about an hour outside of Orlando, has three parks: LEGOLAND, Peppa Pig Theme Park and LEGOLAND Water Park. The entire campus is 150 acres filled with more than 50 rides, shows, restaurants and other attractions for families to enjoy. Unlike other theme parks on this list, LEGOLAND is specifically tailored to children 12 and under, so teens and adults may not find as much to do as they would at other theme parks.

  • Cost: Starts at $84 depending on the park and day, but you can save up to 30 percent with your AAA membership
  • Duration: 1-3 days, depending on how many of the parks you want to visit

Fun Spot America Theme Park

Fun Spot America combines the thrill rides of an amusement park with a carnival midway to create a unique experience that offers something for everyone. Escape the heat in the arcade or the Funhouse, or beat the heat on bumper boats. Play carnival games and ride carnival favorites like a carousel or the Ferris wheel.

If you prefer thrills, check out Orlando’s only wooden roller coaster or the World’s Second Tallest SkyCoaster. There’s also a splash pad for kids to cool off and a small wildlife oasis where you’ll find alligators and other reptiles and birds.

  • Cost: Starts at $59.95 plus tax, but you can purchase Orlando tourist passes to combine admission with another attraction (starting at $64)
  • Duration: 1 day

Plenty of things to do in Orlando don’t require stepping foot in a theme park. Here are a few.

Helicopter Night Tour Over Orlando’s Theme Parks

orlando travel wycieczki

Want to escape the Orlando crowds? Try flightseeing! See Orlando from above on a helicopter night tour. Your pilot will point out highlights, such as Walt Disney World, Universal and The Orlando Eye at ICON Park, so you’ll know exactly what you’re looking at. If you fly during one of Magic Kingdom or Epcot’s nightly fireworks programs, you’ll have the best view in the city. Regardless of when you go, you’ll have unique photos of Orlando from an angle most people never get.

  • Duration: 15 to 40 minutes

Wild Florida Drive-Thru Safari Park

Take a self-guided tour in your car through the 170-acre Wild Florida Drive-Thru Safari Park. You’ll see more than 150 animals from around the world, including zebras, giraffes, American bison and more. Get some amazing photos as you travel the gravel paths through the safari park, and then leave the car behind to walk through Gator Park, where you’ll see more than 200 additional animals, including Crusher, the biggest alligator in Osceola County.

  • Duration: 1 to 4 hours

The Outta Control Magic Comedy Dinner Show

If you love laughing and magic, the Outta Control Magic Comedy Dinner Show at WonderWorks Orlando is a must while you are in Orlando. The 90-minute show is one of Orlando’s longest-running dinner shows. You can expect a blend of audience participation, magic and improv, which is 100 percent family-friendly, making it a great indoor activity if you’re traveling with kids on a rainy day. Enjoy unlimited pizza, salad and beverages (including beer and wine) while you watch. The show runs every night but sells out frequently, so buy your tickets in advance.

  • Duration: 1.5 hours

5 Orlando Photo Spots

orlando travel wycieczki

Orlando is filled with stunning scenic places that practically beg you to take a photo. Whether you’re looking to take an updated family photo, snap professional engagement photos or just take a selfie that proves you were there, check out our list below.

  • Main Street USA with Cinderella’s Castle: Every step you take in Disney World brings you a new spot to photograph, but since we can only have one on this list, we’ll go with the obvious: Cinderella’s Castle. After all, you need evidence that you made it to the Happiest Place on Earth.
  • Diagon Alley at Universal Studios: Don’t miss the chance to take a photo in Diagon Alley with Gringotts Bank in the background. Raise your wand high and use rapid fire to catch the exact moment the dragon breathes flames into the sky.
  • The Orlando Eye: Grab stunning photos of the Orlando skyline from one of the cars of The Orlando Eye, once known as the Wheel at ICON Park. From 400 feet in the air, you’ll see all the lakes, theme parks and other attractions that make Orlando unique. For the best photos, ride at sunset to capture that magic golden hour light!
  • Lake Eola Park: Wander through the tree-lined paths, stop next to the fountain or pose with stunning art installations at Lake Eola Park. It’s the perfect spot for engagement and wedding photos.
  • The Orlando Museum of Art: The Orlando Museum of Art is home to stunning contemporary art pieces, but its modern architecture and sculpture garden are the perfect background for unique photos.

One of the best things about Orlando is its central location. You can easily take a day trip to anywhere else in the state with a rental car or a quick trip on Amtrak.

Clearwater Beach

On a developed barrier island near Tampa, you’ll find the famous white sugar sand of Clearwater Beach. When you get tired of the sand, head to Pier 60, where you can use telescopes, get a snack at the snack bar, play on the beach playground or fish. Take Captain Memo’s Pirate Cruise, a two-hour tour of the Intracoastal Waterway with a crew of pirates who will entertain your kids with interactive games, face paint and a dance party. There’s also an aquarium, several museums and the Alligator Discovery Center nearby.

  • Cost: $100 for transportation to/from the beach and tour guide
  • Duration: 12 hours

Kennedy Space Center

orlando travel wycieczki

A 45-minute drive from Orlando, the Kennedy Space Center makes a great day trip for Orlando visitors. While it will take closer to two days to see every exhibit, you can see a significant portion in a single day. Meet a real astronaut at the Universe Theater or explore the Astronaut Hall of Fame. You can also explore NASA’s plans for traveling to Mars and see how you stack up against recruits.

St. Augustine

Head up the Atlantic Coast to St. Augustine and spend the day exploring the oldest continuously inhabited European settlement in the United States. Stroll through the cobbled streets and colonial Spanish neighborhoods and enjoy a meal at one of the promenade cafes. Wander around the Castillo de San Marcos, where costumed guides will tell you about the oldest masonry fort in the continental United States.

  • Duration: 10 hours

Swim With Manatees

orlando travel wycieczki

Spend a morning snorkeling with a manatee! Travel an hour and 45 minutes northwest of Orlando to Crystal River, the Manatee Capital of the World. You’ll leave early in the morning, and once you arrive, you’ll take a boat up the Crystal River into the Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge, where you can snorkel with manatees. Afterward, have lunch in Homosassa State Park and explore before returning to Orlando.

  • Cost: $98 + wetsuit rental (required)
  • Duration: 8.5 hours

Orlando is often a pricey vacation destination — all those theme park admissions add up fast, after all! Here are a few tips for a budget-friendly trip to Orlando.

  • Save up to 30 percent on tickets to popular attractions , including Walt Disney World and Universal Studios.
  • Save on hotels when you stay with one of our preferred lodging partners .
  • Save on rental cars .
  • Save on nonalcoholic beverages and food at Hard Rock Cafe and Landry’s restaurants .
  • Travel during off-peak times. Avoid peak travel seasons, when hotels, attractions and restaurants raise prices to coincide with demand.
  • Free parking
  • Shuttles to theme parks
  • Complimentary breakfast
  • Bring your own snacks and drinks. The fastest way to balloon your budget is by buying drinks and snacks at attractions. Most places will let you bring a backpack with snacks and reusable water bottles. If your hotel has a free breakfast, you’ll only need to pay for lunch and dinner every day.
  • Redeem credit card points, airline miles, hotel reward points and more. Redeem points for free or reduced-price hotels and flights. Even if you can’t cover the cost of the entire trip, you’ll be able to offset some of the costs to help you stay on budget (or pick up a few souvenirs).

For many people, a trip to Orlando is stressful. Many trips are years in the making, and it’s easy to get bogged down in the details of a “perfect trip” and forget to enjoy the moment. Here are a few tips to help you have the best trip to Orlando.

  • Purchase tickets and make reservations as soon as possible. There’s so much to do in Orlando, and all the options can get overwhelming. Many theme parks and other attractions book up early, and reservations are usually required at popular restaurants. Plan as much as you can in advance to ensure you’ll be able to see everything you want to see.
  • Stay in the right location. If you’re only going to one theme park, stay as close as possible at a hotel offering a shuttle to the park. Stay on International Drive, the main tourist district close to most of Orlando’s attractions, if you aren’t planning on hitting the theme parks.
  • Stay hydrated and wear sunscreen. Remember to drink plenty of water, especially if you’re visiting in the summer. Even if it’s not hot, remember to put on sunscreen since your skin can still burn when it’s cool outside.
  • Be prepared for rain. It will likely rain at least once during your visit, so come prepared. Carry a lightweight rain jacket, poncho or umbrella for surprise showers. You’ll still be able to do most things on your list even in the rain, but be flexible if lightning occurs.
  • Take frequent breaks. A trip to Orlando may be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, but that doesn’t mean you need to schedule every moment. Allow yourself plenty of time for each activity so you don’t have to rush. (Multi-day theme park tickets help with this — plus they’re cheaper per day than one-day tickets.) Find time to sit in the shade and relax, or alternate outdoor activities with indoor ones to get out of the heat.
  • Explore beyond the theme parks. Most people travel to Orlando to visit Walt Disney World or Universal Studios, but Orlando has much more to offer. Consider spending a day or two outside the parks to appreciate downtown Orlando or explore its unique natural beauty.

3 Days in Orlando | A Travel Itinerary

3 Days in Orlando | A Travel Itinerary

From visiting a world famous theme park to shopping at local farmer’s markets, three days in Orlando can either be a lazy wander through the sunshine or it can be a jam-packed few days of action and fun.

Orlando is one of the best destinations in the world for visitors, but what’s in Orlando besides the theme parks? Is there anything else to do?

The answer? A resounding, “yes!”

It’s known as “the city beautiful” because of its vibrant community life and beautiful landscapes, and Orlando is way more than just the theme parks and the main tourist hub, I-Drive.

In this Orlando 3 day itinerary, you’ll learn how to spend a gorgeous 3 days in Orlando, enjoying delicious food, Florida sunshine, hidden gems, and friendly people.

Tips for Visiting Orlando

Here are a few tips for visiting Orlando, including…

  • You’ll want to rent a car, as Orlando was built for drivers, not public transportation
  • It rains a lot in the summer months, when you can expect torrential downpours almost every afternoon. Add a poncho to your Orlando packing list , it’s part of the Florida fun!
  • One of the best times to visit Orlando is January, as the weather is dry, not too cold, and it’s not too busy after the holiday crowds have left
  • It’s often cheaper to rent out an apartment or “villa” or house instead of staying at a hotel room
  • The best bargain places to stay is south of Orlando, in an area called Kissimmee, or nearer the downtown Orlando area and away from the theme parks

Your day starts with a delicious breakfast in Winter Park, which is one of the most beautiful and upscale parts of Orlando.

It’s far removed from the touristy areas, which means you can enjoy your breakfast in peace!

Check out the Briarpatch Restaurant, one of the best places to get breakfast in Orlando with their creamy eggs benedict and decadent waffles.

The main thoroughfare is named Park Avenue, and it’s where you can do some window shopping and walk along after your breakfast.

Stop by the green park with the fountain in the middle and plan your next moves and do some people-watching. Winter Park is a very “walkable” area in Orlando, which can be rare!

Pack a picnic for the first afternoon after you stop by a grocery store (the main one is called Publix in Florida, and there are a few in Winter Park).

Now you’re going to Leu Gardens , Orlando’s beautiful botanic gardens. Here, you’ll find everything from sensory gardens to rose gardens to wandering paths through Florida oak trees.

Check out the Spanish moss hanging down from the sturdy branches and enjoy the fresh Florida air. The gardens are manicured and well-maintained, and is a popular destination for weddings as well as capturing family photos under the beautiful palm trees.

Spend a couple of hours here, and then it’s time to head to your evening stop.

Take a trip to Downtown Orlando where you’ll take part in a classic Orlando must-do and visit Lake Eola, as well as the local area surrounding downtown.

Put your name on the list to rent a swan boat, but be sure to be there in-person as you can only put your name on in person and they’ll call you when yours is ready.

Paddle your swan boat out onto the lake and enjoy the beautiful Orlando skyline view , as well as the fountain that’s lit up at night and the atmosphere of the people walking around the lake.

Lake Eola is one of those local places that’s popular with the locals, but not as visited by tourists. It has a community feel that’s welcoming and warm, and you’ll really understand how the real residents of Orlando play, live, and work.

orlando travel wycieczki

And, if you’re hungry, there are so many good restaurants within walking distance of the lake. You’ll find juicy burgers, delicious pork chops and innovative vegetarian options at 310 Lakeside, and everyone in your group will find something to suit them.

On the morning of your second day, start with a filling breakfast at Keke’s Breakfast Café. They have locations all around Orlando, so you’ll be able to find one close to where you’re staying.

And once you get there, you won’t want to leave. As the name suggests, Keke’s is all about breakfast. They’ve got classics like gravy and biscuits, as well as stacks of pancakes and the most amazing home fries you’ve ever eaten. If you love breakfast (and big portions), you’ll love Keke’s.

When breakfast is over, drive to the Tibet-Butler Nature Preserve , one of the best things to do in Orlando for free . Wander down the boardwalks through the swampland and get a feel for what Florida really looks like, before the theme parks moved to town. Keep a watch out for Florida wildlife like ospreys, or check out the butterfly gardens.

orlando travel wycieczki

Make sure to bring your boots as the ground can be wet after heavy rainfall, but know that all of the nature trails here are well-marked and accessible so you can travel on them even if you’re biking, jogging, or pushing a stroller.

After stretching your legs through Florida’s marshlands, take some time in the afternoon to get a bit fancier and think about one of two options: a fantastic round of golf, or a trip to the Mall of Millennia.

Golfers will fall in love with the golf courses in Orlando, as the gorgeous weather and well-manicured courses have beautiful views and plenty of options. Play championship courses like Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill , or try the courses at Disney World as these are some of the best courses in the area and will also be close to the plans for the evening of this day.

You can get around the golf courses by renting a golf cart, which is how most people get around the Orlando courses. Always be careful around the lakes and bodies of water on the courses, as alligators do find themselves on Florida’s golf courses commonly (keep your distance, they are more scared of you than you are of them).

If golfing isn’t your thing, head to the mall today! Check out the Mall of Millennia , Orlando’s upscale mall where you’ll find brands like Coach and Burberry, as well as a really nice food court and other stores.

orlando travel wycieczki

This is really the flagship Orlando mall for luxury shopping, and is a great place to window shop and mingle with visitors from around the world who have come because of the great reputation of this mall.

Before you start shopping, get lunch at the Cheesecake Factory, one of the most popular restaurants at the mall and for good reason – over 20+ cheesecake flavors will help you end your lunch in delicious style.

As your day comes to an end, make sure to check out one of the best things to do in Orlando near the theme parks that doesn’t actually require theme park entrance – Disney Springs.

You don’t need to shill out tons of money to spend the evening here, as Disney’s shopping and entertainment district is completely free.

Here, you’ll find plenty of shops like Sperry’s and Basin, as well as Disney-themed ones with Disney merchandise for people of all ages.

There will usually be live entertainment in the bandstand that you can watch completely for free, or walk around the lake and see if you can spot the iconic LEGO dragon in the water (hint: it’s near the LEGO store, where you can also spend some time building).

Dinner tonight is at the Boathouse, one of the best restaurants in Disney Springs with its delicious burgers, incredible lobster rolls, and memorable turkey sandwiches.

Don’t miss the dinner rolls with their honey glaze, and if you opt to sit outside, you may just see the fireworks from Disney’s Hollywood Studios over the water.

Check out the Launchpad for the “amphibicars” from the boat launch (boats in the shape of cars that float around the lake!)

Over 21s can finish off their night with a visit to Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar, an Indiana Jones themed bar that has an interesting range of drink and cocktail choices, in addition to immersive theming that will make for some great Instagram snaps.

And no matter what age you are, you can finish with a visit to Sprinkles Bakery, where you’ll find a Cupcake ATM. Yes, a cupcake ATM!

Order a cupcake from the ATM, pay, and receive it all in one transaction in this ATM that spits out cupcakes instead of dollars.

orlando travel wycieczki

Start your last day in Orlando by breakfast at the White Wolf Café, which is one of the best places for a hearty breakfast in Orlando that will keep you full throughout the day. Try the toast and eggs, as well as the crispy bacon and hashbrowns.

Next, enjoy a visit to the Orlando Museum of Art . Founded in 1924, this museum has over 2,400 pieces of art from around America and has both traveling temporary exhibitions and permanent.

orlando travel wycieczki

You’ll find that the inside of the museum is stunning, and it often plays hosts to weddings and other gatherings that need a beautiful stately backdrop.

Don’t forget to wander around the sculpture gardens out front, as well as looking into the kid’s activities which are held regularly to get young people involved in understanding and appreciating art.

In the afternoon, head over to the Orlando Science Center , which is a fan favorite among Orlando locals. Check out the wind tunnel, children’s play area, and wonderful IMAX screen featuring everything from films about space to under the sea.

This is one of the best things to do on a rainy day in Orlando as it’s entirely indoors – there’s even an environmental section featuring snakes, gators, and much more.

A dedicated toddler and kid’s play area also has soft foam blocks, a mini citrus grove experience and a water exploration table to make sure that they’re entertained for hours.

An on-site café has a Subway for lunch.

This evening, finish off your trip to Orlando with drinks in the Church Street station area of downtown.

Church Street has plenty of bar and nightclub options, and a bar crawl for the over 21’s is a fun way to celebrate a successful Orlando trip in true style. From the rooftop bar at Latitudes to some Irish spirit at Irish Shannon’s Pub, there’s something new to discover and different drinks to try at each one.

If you’re not of drinking age or want a different option besides bars, finish off the night by watching the fireworks for free at the Magic Kingdom!

Seriously, for free!

Head over to Disney’s Wilderness Lodge resort , where you can park as a “day” guest (meaning you’re not staying there overnight, and then head out to the back of the resort and take the free boat to the Magic Kingdom during the Magic Kingdom fireworks time.

orlando travel wycieczki

You’ll get to see the fireworks blasting off over the castle as your boat gets closer, and the skippers will often stop to let you get a better view. The music will sometimes be piped onto the boat, but you will get some gorgeous photos and see the fireworks from a truly different vantage point than most Orlando visitors can say.

Stay on the boat, which will return to Wilderness Lodge, and then finish your evening with a non-alcoholic drink or snack at the resort’s outdoor casual dining area, Geyser’s Point.

This is a magical way to end a magical stay in Orlando, and a great way to weave in some Disney magic even if you don’t make it to the theme parks or don’t plan on stepping foot inside the theme parks during your stay in Orlando.

Getting To Orlando

Getting to Orlando, Florida is pretty easy. The international airport is well served by domestic and international flights that arrive frequently. There are regular shuttles from the airport to the hotels and car hire is available at the airport.

Driving is also a great option and Orlando is reached via the I-4 and the I-75 which will take you into central Florida as will the I-95. The I-10 will take you to northern Florida.

Bus companies like Greyhound and Megabus also travel to Orlando on a regular basis and of course, train companies such as Amtrak and Brightline offer interstate routes.

Getting Around During Your Orlando Itinerary

To make the most of Orlando in 3 days it is best to have a car. Car is by far the quickest and easiest way to get around the city. However please allow for tolls as this expense can add up. Also bring your SunPass, EZ-Pass, I-Pass, or similar as it makes things easier.

There is a comprehensive bus system that can get you to most areas but it takes time and will require a lot of planning. It’s best to stick to the LYNX buses whose stops are marked with a pink bus or paw print sign. These buses run to most tourist attractions on a regular basis.

There are also taxis and Uber but these can work out quite expensive.

The best way to enjoy your Orlando weekend trip is to drive your own car or a rental or hire a car when here.

If this is your first time in Orlando here are some Florida driving tips .

The Ultimate 3-Day Weekend In Orlando Itinerary

Day one – hit one of orlando’s theme parks.

It wouldn’t be an itinerary for Orlando without including a trip to a theme park. For the purposes of this Orlando travel plan, we feel it’s best to choose the one park that resonates with you and go there.

It is our experience that when it comes to theme parks people try to do too much. You could spend the whole 3 days just seeing the theme parks you could spend a whole 3 weeks and still find things you haven’t seen.

Choose the park that suits your interests the best and will fit your or your family’s needs the best and accept you can’t do it all.

Option 1. Walt Disney World Parks

There are four Disney theme parks to choose from, The Magic Kingdom, Epcot Centre, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park.

The Magic Kingdom is perfect for those with small children. This park focuses more on Disney fairytales and well-known Disney characters.

Disney Hollywood Studios is focused more on the film industry and behind the scenes of filmmaking. Older children tend to prefer this park and it has a huge Star Wars area.

EPCOT is our favorite and tends to have something for everyone. The highlight is The World Shocases where 11 countries are represented with pavilions highlighting the culture and food of the area.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park is all about animals and again will suit most ages. This is also where you will find Pandora from Avatar which is honestly beautiful. We feel this is a park to come once you have seen the others but again it’s down to personal preferences.

Entrance of Walt Disney World near Orlando one of the things to do on a weekend in Orlando.

Option 2: Universal Orlando Park

There are two main Universal Parks, Universal Studios Florida and Universal’s Islands of Adventure. These parks tend to suit children who are not toddlers and are a bit older.

Universal Studios Florida is all about film and TV and features rides, shows, and attractions that put you right in the middle of the action. This is also where you will find Diagon Alley in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Universal’s Islands of Adventure takes you into a world of myths, legends, cartoons, comic books, and children’s tales. Here you will find The Jurassic Park experience, Hogwarts castle and Hogsmeade, and some things for younger children.

Father and son taking photo next to world sphere at Universals Citywalk.

Option 3: Legoland

If you have smaller children and are trying to do Orlando on a budget then a trip to Legoland is one of the things to do in Orlando in a weekend.

The Legoland Florida Resort has three parks, Legoland, a water Park, and Peppa Pig World. We recommend the Legoland theme park.

This park is designed for children ages 2 to 12. There are more than fifty rides to enjoy here as well as shows, and attractions.

Visitors pass through the entrance to Legoland Florida one of the things to do on a weekend in Orlando.

Whichever you choose make sure you plan to get the most out of your day. Prepare which rides you will go on, where you will eat, what you will do in the evening, and of course, prepare for the weather.

Here are some Orlando tips that will help you prepare for the Florida weather month by month .

Any Orlando travel plan should have a trip to at least one of the theme parks incorporated.

Day 2: Visit Classic Orlando

Trying to do Orlando in a weekend is a struggle as there is so much to do. We feel like it’s all about choosing your adventure based on what you love and how much energy you have. An Orlando with kids itinerary may look much different than one for couples.

When thinking about how to plan a trip to Orlando we wanted to include all options. So on day two, we have given you several options depending on the kind of experience you like. They will all make for a fun weekend trip to Orlando whether you want to do everything or keep it a bit more chill.

If you want your Orlando trip itinerary to be full on we have you covered and if you want it to be a bit gentler we have you covered too. There is so much to do in Orlando it can be hard to pick but we feel we have come up with a good mix here.

Stop 1 – Have Breakfast At A Famous Spot.

What better way to start the second day of your Orlando itinerary than with a delicious breakfast? You can pick one of these Orlando Breakfast spots or perhaps do something a little different.

Book a character breakfast at one of the Disney Hotels as a special treat. Or have breakfast in one of the Universal Hotels, or head to Disney Springs where there is so much on offer.

Pick a spot that is near your next attraction if you can for ease. World Cafe on International Drive, Maxine’s on Shine in the downtown area, and the White Wolf Cafe and Bar at Ivanhoe Village are among the best.

Stop 2 – Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition/Airboat Ride/Wonderworks

Depending on what kind of day you want to have and what you like doing your next stop can be one of these three activities.

Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition on International Drive is a must for history lovers and those who love a good experience. It’s an immersive experience that aims to give you an idea of what it was like for the passengers on the Titanic. There is a replica of the boat’s Grand Staircase to explore and on the Promenade Deck, you will feel how cold it was aboard. You can even touch an iceberg. It’s one of the best museums in Florida .

Get Your Tickets Here To Avoid the Queues .

If you want your 3 days in Orlando to be based more around the great outdoors then adults and children alike will love an airboat ride through Boggy Creek . It’s a fast and fun experience that travels through the Everglades headwaters. Look out for alligators, turtles, birds, and other wildlife and your experienced Captain will point out things of interest. The meeting area is about 20 minutes outside of town so keep that in mind when planning.

Wonderworks is also a perfect location to visit that adults and children will love. Wonderworks is essentially an upside-down house with games, attractions, and experiences for all ages. There are over 100 interactive experiences including experiencing an earthquake and laser tag.

Get Your Tickets Here to Avoid Queueing .

All of these activities are great things to do in Orlando in a weekend so choose which one works for you and have fun. Every fun weekend trip to Orlando will include one of these activities.

Stop 3 – Brunch/Lunch

Depending on what time you finish head for brunch or lunch near where you are or at your next location. There are some great brunch spots in Orlando and some wonderful downtown Orlando restaurants .

Stop Four – Crayola Experience/Explore Downtown Orlando/Harry P Leu Gardens

If you have smaller children and want to spend the afternoon doing something a little less hectic head to the Crayola Experience. Inside the Florida Mall here Crayola is brought to life in a 70,000 square feet space. It’s all about an interactive creative play area with live shows, puzzles, riddles, and lots of attractions including the world’s largest Crayola crayon. It’s one of the best things to do in Orlando with kids.

If you have small children make sure this is on your weekend getaway in Orlando itinerary. Buy Your Ticket Here To Avoid Queues .

Couples might want to explore downtown Orlando. It’s a pretty small area and very quaint so easily walkable. The unofficial center is Church Street and it’s a great place to go if it’s your first time in Orlando. This area is an electric mix of restaurants, professional sports, live entertainment, nightspots, and theaters. The area links back to the 1800s and has a lot of charm.

Church Street Station continues this tradition, offering an eclectic mix of dining, and entertainment for locals and tourist in Orlando. It's one of the things to do on a weekend in Orlando.

If you want to get out into nature then visit The Harry P. Leu Gardens. It’s one of the largest botanical gardens in Florida and a real urban oasis on the banks of Lake Rowena. It is a great area to explore and is a perfect place for a picnic.

No weekend getaway in Orlando but be complete without a trip to one of these locations.

Stop Five – Dinner and Lake Eola/Pirate’s Cove Adventure Golf/Icon Park

For dinner head to one of the many Orlando restaurants . Whatever you want to eat there is a restaurant in Orlando that serves it. In this Orlando trip plan, we have combined dinner with another activity.

For a quiet evening head to Lake Eola, where you will get stunning views of the city which is particularly beautiful in the evening. There is a walk that circles the lake or you can take a peddle boat onto the lake. It’s a perfect place to watch the sunset. Afterward, eat at one of the romantic restaurants that surround the park.

Lake Eola Park with two swans in the foreground. The Orlando skyline is in the background.

For something the children will love head to Pirate’s Cove Adventure Golf. This 18-hole golf course takes you through waterfalls, caves, and some lush landscapes. It’s lots of fun and you can combine this with an evening meal on International Drive. Buy Your Tickets For Adventure Golf.

For something truly special head to Icon Park and ride The Wheel . The Wheel is a state of the art climate controlled Ferris wheel. The view from here is incredible and if you get to ride at sunset it’s amazing. If you are doing Orlando in a weekend a trip here is a must. While you are here enjoy a meal at one of the many surrounding restaurants. The Capital Grille, Maggiano’s Little Italy, and The Pub are all good options.

The wheel at Icon Park with palm trees and a fountain in front of it. It's a great thing to do in a weekend in Orlando.

Day 3: Explore The Surrounding Orlando Area

Today your Orlando weekend trip will involve more driving. We are going to get you out and about to some of the attractions nearby Orlando. If you don’t want to do this then you could just do some of the activities on day two that you missed out on.

Option 1 Visit Kennedy Space Center

A drive of just over an hour will bring you to the Kennedy Space Center. This is NASA’s primary launch center and a mecca for all things space travel. There is a museum where you can see rocket artifacts and memorabilia or you can get a private tour that shows you a much more in-depth look at the launch control center. There is so much to see and do here and everyone will enjoy it.

Get Your Tickets Here To Avoid The Queues .

Kennedy Space Center Rocket Garden. The rockets are standing up surrounded by flowers.

Option 2: Swim In The Florida Springs Near Orlando

Florida has loads of freshwater springs and they are the perfect place to cool off from the Florida heat. You can swim, snorkel, scuba dive, go tubing, kayak , and do a host of other activities at most of the springs. Rock Springs and Wekeiwa Springs are great and Kings Landing is perfect for kayaking.

Option 3: Day Trip To Mount Dora

We love Mount Dora it’s such a cute area right in the middle of lake country. This small town is located in an area known as the Golden Triangle. This area is what some refer to as ‘old Florida’. Mount Dora was ranked as one of the best and friendliest small towns in Florida and is a perfect place for couples to spend some time. There is so much to do in Mount Dora and it makes a great escape from the hustle and bustle.

Mount Dora Lighthouse located at the Port of Mount Dora in Grantham Point Park, Florida, a popular tourist destination.

What To Do With More Than 3 Days In Orlando

If you have more than 3 days in Orlando the world is your oyster. You could explore the theme parks that you missed, enjoy more of the International drive attractions or explore some more of the museums and attractions in Orlando.

A visit to some of the beaches near Orlando is also a must and we love Clearwater and Melbourne Beach. You could explore some more of the cute towns in Florida nearby such as Dade City and Winter Park. Going on a hike in Orlando is also a great option to see more scenery in the area.

For those that love shopping Orlando has a lot to offer with malls and of course Disney Springs and Universal Citywalk.

There are so many hidden gems in Florida too that tend to be less touristy like Bok Tower Gardens. And if you are in season kayaking with manatees is an amazing experience and of course, you can always explore The Everglades a little more.

A beautiful morning on Clearwater Beach. The sky is blue and the sand is freshly raked. There is a lifeguard tower and some windbreaker tents.

3 Best Day Trips from Orlando, Florida

By Laura Ratliff and Terry Ward

United States Florida Orlando Silver Springs States Park

If you’re heading to Orlando, it’s a good bet that Disney will be occupying most of your time, but you’d be remiss not to see this area's other cool offerings during your time in central Florida. For all the flack it gets (somewhat unfairly we'd say; who doesn't love a good theme park?), the region is also home to springs where manatees cavort, a history-loaded 16th-century Spanish settlement, and, believe it or not, the horse capital of the world (move over, Lexington ). Here are three places we recommend you explore beyond the family-friendly entertainment. Read on for our list of the best day trips from Orlando.

The sleepy town of Ocala isn’t on the radar for most travelers, unless you have a background in the equine arts. With stud farms that rival those on Kentucky’s bluegrass, a weekend spent in Ocala is a great way to get down and dirty learning about the vibrant Thoroughbred industry that keeps this part of the state running, no pun intended.

United States Florida Orlando Silver Springs States Park

Silver Springs State Park Arrow

Silver Springs State Park has a storied past; home to America’s largest spring, it was arguably the first tourist attraction in Florida . Today, visitors flock to the park for its famous glass-bottomed boat tours; more adventurous travelers can also kayak or canoe. The 5,000-acre park, the perfect choice for outdoor enthusiasts who've had enough Florida beaches, charges a nominal admission fee, but it's worth it for the experience of encountering diverse local wildlife, including manatees and turtles.

Appleton Museum of Art

Appleton Museum of Art Arrow

The College of Central Florida’s Appleton Museum of Art is an unlikely gem in Ocala, with a modern building housing a massive collection. Is it the Met ? No, but the Appleton is large, and the extreme diversity in its collections is more commonly seen in larger cities. The European collection houses 17th- and 18th-century Dutch paintings; robust collections of Asian, African, and pre-Columbian art are on full display as well.

Haeorum Foods Korean BBQ Arrow

Ocala seems like an unlikely destination for Korean food—especially Korean food that’s tucked away in the back of a gas station. But Haeorum isn’t your typical Korean joint. Sure, the menu has bibimbap, japchae, and dukbokki, but you’ll also find riffs on items like quesadillas, loaded with bulgogi and kimchi, or less-common Korean staples like naengmyeon, cold buckwheat noodles designed to cut through South Korea's—and Central Florida’s—oppressive heat and humidity.

The Herlong Mansion Bed and Breakfast is a breath of fresh air in a part of Florida filled with mid-range chain hotels and low-priced motor inns. A winding drive leads you to a stout, red-bricked mansion with four austere columns, surrounded by palmettos and ethereal Spanish moss. Each room is different, with antique furnishings and homey touches that make them feel like a beloved aunt’s house. We’re partial to the Magnolia room, which offers direct access to an upstairs porch.

United States Florida Orlando Farm Ocala

Ocala is home to one of just four major Thoroughbred breeding centers in the world, and stars like American Pharoah, winner of the 2015 Triple Crown, have grazed on its pastures. Get an inside glimpse of that and more on Farm Tours of Ocala, where true horse people take you on half-hour visits to three of Ocala’s most revered stables. Tour groups are small and cater to everyone from professional horsemen to city slickers whose experience with horses is limited to attending Kentucky Derby parties .

Big Hammock Brewery Bites Ocala

Big Hammock Brewery & Bites Arrow

Ocala may be known as Florida's horse capital, but there's much to do in between equine-related stops. Case in point: this fabulous brewery that dishes up pan-Asian food. The beers are an excellent match with fruity IPAs (both brewed in house and from around the state).

To pad your stomach for a night of partying, order the very shareable poutine (yes we know we're in Florida not Montreal ), with brown Guinness gravy giving it extra decadence (as if it needed it). Southern food is the specialty though, with most of the dishes perfect for sharing—things like deviled eggs, pork rinds, and charcuterie boards. For those with more of an appetite, you can't go wrong with one of the huge burgers, the braised short rib, or the Tomahawk pork chop with smoked turkey collard greens.

Hangar One Bistro Arrow

Tables on enclosed, climate-controlled patios overlook the active runway at Northeast Florida Regional Airport in St. Augustine. But this is not some airport bar. You can come casual or decked out. You'll fit in either way. Brazilian, Spanish German, French, and even Austrian flavors and preparations find their way to the menu. Favorite dishes include a Brazilian-style stroganoff with a tomato cream sauce, roasted rack of lamb with a port wine gastrique and salmon with caper brown butter sauce. Courses land in neat procession in a timely manner, much like the flights on the runway you're overlooking.

Aerial view of Crystal River Florida

CRYSTAL RIVER

Salt and fresh waters mingle at the mouth of the Gulf of Mexico, where the tiny town of Crystal River is a true find for nature lovers. You can swim with manatees year-round here in spring-fed waters that glow neon blue, but the cooler winter months brings the greatest chance to paddle among the gentle giants on snorkeling tours to Three Sisters Springs. Come summer, it's all about snorkeling for scallops atop beds of undulating seagrass in the Gulf, then sitting at a table by the river to enjoy a blackened plate full of them (cleaned and cooked by someone else, if that's how you prefer it). The real Florida is within reach here. Dive in.

Plantation on Crystal River Adventure Center: Scalloping Arrow

Coast Guard certified captains lead private tours for up to six people from the marina at the resort, Plantation on Crystal River. They take you on a rolling ride through the mangroves out into the grassy flats in the Gulf of Mexico, where the scallops can be gathered in season from July 1 through September 24. All gear is provided (mask, snorkel and fins). This is a true ocean to plate experience—you forage, watch someone clean your catch (you can even help), and then eat it within hours. The scallops are beautiful to look at with iridescent blue eyes lining the rims of their shells. It's amazing to see them snap open and shut once they're in the bucket, too. Who knew a shellfish could be so energetic?

Bird's Underwater Inc. Dive Center: Swim with Manatees Arrow

Who doesn't love manatees and the chance to swim with them? Bird's Underwater has been running tours for years from a dive and snorkel shop right on the docks. Board pontoon boats and take the short ride to the spring heads where the manatees gather. The animals are attracted to the relatively warm water of the springs, which stays around 72 degree in the winter (when the Gulf of Mexico gets much colder). January, February, and March are the best times to go. Baby manatees are often very curious, and seeing one through your mask underwater laying alongside its mother nursing is something you won't soon forget. While you're not allowed to swim after the animals in chase, there's nothing to say they can't approach you for a curious nuzzle, and they often do.

The Museum Café Arrow

It's a surprise to find this great little Cuban café attached to the Olde Mill House Gallery & Printing Museum in Homosassa. The place has a homey vibe, with a few round wooden tables inside the brick interior where you eat surrounded by antique typewriters and other vintage bric-a-brac. For authentic Cuban food, it's the best around. Most people come to Tampa and Miami wanting to try great Cuban food —but it's a real surprise to find it here in the hinterlands.

Vintage on 5th Arrow

Old Florida vibes abound at this wine bar and restaurant, open for dinner only and located inside a 1940s cottage. Painted eggshell blue with yellow window trim and flowers overflowing on the balcony, it's impossible to drive by without wanting to stop. It's surprising to find such an elegant restaurant in casual Crystal River. If you're looking for well-prepared local seafood and continental cuisine, too (think rich French sauces and even escargot) there's lots to like. The she crab soup is my favorite starter, silky smooth and redolent of fresh crab with the perfect sherry bite. The wine is just as big a deal as the food. Vintage on 5th has been recognized as having one of the best wine lists in the world in years past.

Default

The Freezer Tiki Bar Arrow

This is the ultimate Florida waterside joint, with absolutely zero frills, but dock views and salt-spiked air.  Simple, mostly unadulterated seafood is what people come for here, especially the steamed crabs and shrimp. You can easily order several dishes and have everyone share, to get a taste of it all. When Florida stone crabs are in season, they sell out fast—grab them if they're on the menu. The smoked mullet dip is the local-must for a starter.

This Is the Most Wheelchair-accessible City in the U.S.

Orlando, Florida tops this mobility-centric list.

Imagine booking a vacation and not being able to see the sights you want — not because you didn’t plan ahead and buy a ticket, but because you physically can’t access the sites . Frustrating would be an understatement.

It’s no wonder that, according to the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics , over 40 percent of people aged 18 to 64 and over 57 percent of persons aged 65 and older who have travel-limiting disabilities reported that they hadn’t traveled at all in 2022. When even a tiny trip requires days of planning and there’s no guarantee that you’ll have accommodating housing , dining options, or activities, it can be easier to stick with what you know — to stay home and plan a local trip instead.

The folks at InsiderMonkey.com, a finance site, dove into the world of accessibility, evaluating various sources and Reddit threads to determine what U.S. cities stood out in the wheelchair community. Topping the list was Orlando in central Florida.

The city, which is best known as the home to Walt Disney World Resort, actually has more than a dozen theme parks, many of which are known for providing plenty of accommodations for wheelchair users . At Disney World, for example, there are wheelchairs available to rent, wheelchair-friendly buses to take you around the park, special load and unload areas, and even cushions on various rides. The park has a webpage that provides all the details so guests with disabilities know what to expect.

Beyond being home to several wheelchair-friendly theme parks, the ranking notes that “Orlando boasts a robust healthcare system and an accessible bus system called Lynx, contributing to its disability-friendly reputation.”

Orlando Health, a network of hospitals in Orlando, was recognized in 2022 for its excellence in keeping patients safe and providing quality care. Additionally, the CDC reports that 12 percent of adult Floridians have mobility issues — a statistic that ensures that healthcare providers are familiar with and well-equipped to care for wheelchair users.

Orlando’s bus system, Lynx, has an accessible transportation arm called Access Lynx . Access Lynx is a shared ride door-to-door transportation service and customers with disabilities can get a bus pass at a discounted rate .

Following Orlando, which got a perfect score of 1, were four other U.S. cities that stood out for their wheelchair accessibility: Seattle; Chicago; Albuquerque, New Mexico; and New Orleans.

Brightline to focus on Orlando-to-Miami routes, shifting monthly subscriptions

After june 1, big changes are coming to monthly discount passes.

Troy Campbell , Reporter

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Brightline station has enough ridership for the company to focus long distance routes.

This means starting June 1, there are big changes to monthly discount passes.

According to Brightline’s website, their “smart” plan from Miami to West Palm Beach currently costs $399 for one month, which includes 40 trips. After June 1, a similar plan costs $350 for only 10 trips.

Kemisha Mantle and Trudy Ann-Thomas were traveling back to Fort Lauderdale from the Orlando Brightline station on Tuesday.

[EXCLUSIVE: Become a News 6 Insider (it’s FREE) | PINIT! Share your photos ]

“It reminded me of an airplane anyway because of the service, the scanning. It was not as we expected,” Mantle said.

“They said it’s like an airplane, but to be honest, I think in terms of space, it’s a bit better, much better,” Ann-Thomas said. “We are looking forward to having such a nice experience going back.”

The two said that for a couple of years, people have grown accustomed to the discounted plan in South Florida.

“Going back, it’s the foundation of what they had before. If they are coming out and extending, they shouldn’t take that away from the folks in South Florida,” Ann-Thomas said.

Brightline has also announced plans to connect the Orlando station to Tampa.

Royal Caribbean's Utopia of the Seas sails from the Chantiers...

The sixth Oasis-class vessel set to become the second largest cruise ship in the world has five days of sea trials ahead of it, sailing from the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, on Tuesday where it has been under construction since April 2022.

With 10 weeks before its July 19 debut, the ship will perform hundreds of tests as it travels more than 1,000 miles.

“More than 900 experts, specialists across areas such as naval architecture, engineering, navigation and design, are on Utopia to push the ship to its limits and make sure it’s ready for smooth sailing,” according to a Royal Caribbean news release.

On the list will be confirming expected ship movement through the open water and making sure its navigation systems and engines perform as expected.

Port Canaveral chalks up record month amid growing cruise demand

The ship is taking over the three- and four-night Bahamas itineraries currently being performed by Allure of the Seas out of Port Canaveral, part of a strategy of parking two Oasis-class ships at the Orlando-area port that has led to record passenger numbers.

Each sailing will visit Royal Caribbean’s private Bahamas island Little Stirrup Cay, which the company has rebranded Perfect Day at CocoCay. The destination features a water park with 14 waterslides and a massive wave pool, the largest freshwater pool in the Caribbean and the Bahamas and a new adults-only area called Hideaway Beach.

As the sixth Oasis-class ship, the ship is 236,860 gross tons and 1,188 feet long with 18 decks and a 5,668-passenger capacity based on double occupancy. Oasis of the Seas was the largest in the world when it debuted in 2009 followed by 2010’s Allure of the Seas, 2016’s Harmony of the Seas, 2018’s Symphony of the Seas and 2022’s Wonder of the Seas.

All but Symphony have spent some time calling Port Canaveral home.

It’s the first time Royal has assigned the short sailing duties to a ship of that size for its debut.

Port Canaveral head says it’s getting Royal Caribbean’s next new world’s largest cruise ship

It will not become the world’s largest ship because of the debut this year out of Miami of the even larger Icon of the Seas, the first in a new class of ship whose sister Star of the Seas will come online in 2025 and also make its way to Port Canaveral.

For now, though, Utopia of the Seas at No. 2 brings with it the Oasis-class favorites including the Ultimate Abyss dry slide. Utopia’s will be the longest at sea at 295 feet long — 43 feet longer than those on its sister ships. The ship’s outdoor features include eight hot tubs, five pools, three Perfect Storm waterslides, a surf simulator, mini golf, climbing walls and the Splashaway Bay water play area.

It will be home to seven neighborhoods that carve up the ship including the Boardwalk, Royal Promenade and Central Park.

Royal Caribbean details new dining on Port Canaveral-bound Utopia of the Seas

A new dining venue is called Royal Railway – Utopia Station will bring travelers on board a virtual train, offering a thematic dinner experience similar to the new Empire Supper Club that debuted on Icon of the Seas. The railway cars diners sit in will mimic train travel with digital screens showing a variety of destinations with matching cuisine.

The ship will also feature a new poolside food truck with quick bites called The Spare Tire, a walkup window for Japanese restaurant Izumi with Japanese-inspired street food and sweets, a repositioned, two-deck Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar and new outside terrace Gio’s Terrazza and the second iteration of the popular Mason Jar Southern Restaurant & Bar that debuted on Wonder of the Seas.

Also on board will be Hooked Seafood, Chops Grille, 150 Central Park, Park Cafe, Sorrento’s, Boardwalk Dog House, Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade, Windjammer buffet, the main dining room and chef’s table experience.

One of 23 bar options, a new venue called the Pesky Parrot will feature fruit-based cocktails and frozen drinks on the Promenade taking place of the Bionic Bar found on some of its sister ships.

Utopia of the Seas will also be the first Oasis-class ship to run on liquefied natural gas, a cleaner burning fuel that is among the cruise industry’s efforts to reduce their ships’ carbon footprint. Port Canaveral was the first North American port to home port an LNG cruise ship when Carnival’s Mardi Gras arrived in 2021 followed by Disney Wish in 2022.

For its main show entertainment, new show titles have yet to be revealed, but it will have its three main performance venues with Broadway-style shows at the Royal Theater, a new diving and aerobatic show in the AquaTheater, new ice-skating performances in Studio B as well as comedy in The Attic.
