CALENDAR: This is when and where the PDC European Tour events will be played in 2022

The 2022 PDC European Tour circuit consists of thirteen tournaments at the moment. Possibly a fourteenth tournament will be added to the European Tour calendar later.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the European Tour was almost at a standstill in the past two years. In 2020 only four Euro Tour tournaments took place, in 2021 even only two. When the corona situation allows, a full circuit will be played again in 2022.

PDC Calendar for 2022 released: More than 150 days of darts scheduled

European Tour but especially in Germany

Of the thirteen tournaments that have now been announced, seven will be played in Germany. The first three European Tour tournaments of the season in Riesa, Hildesheim and Munich, all take place in German cities. Later in the season events will be hosted in Leverkusen, Sindelfingen, Trier and Jena.

The other six European Tour tournaments will be held in six different countries. The Austrian Darts Open is hosted in Premstätten. The Czech Darts Open will be held in Prague, while the Dutch Darts Masters will be held in Zwolle. After the summer, other tournaments are on the calendar in Budapest (Hungary), Wieze (Belgium) and Gibraltar.

Structure of a European Tour tournament

The field of a European Tour tournament consists of 48 players. The top 16 of the Pro Tour rankings get an invitation and are automatically qualified for the second round. These seeded players have to win their second round to have their prize money count for the various rankings.

Also the two highest ranked players from the host country of a European Tour tournament are automatically qualified. For them the same rule applies as for the seeded players. They have to win their first round to get the prize money added to the ranking.

Furthermore, 24 spots are on offer at a qualifying tournament for all remaining PDC Tour Card holders. There are also a number of more qualifiers. Via a Host Nation Qualifier two players of the host nation can qualify. There is also a qualifier for players without a PDC Tour Card, where two spots can be earned. To participate in this event you must have participated in the Q-School. Finally there are qualifying tournaments for players from the Scandinavian countries and Baltic states (together one starting spot) and players from Eastern Europe (one starting spot).

European Championship in Dortmund

Prize money can be earned at each European Tour tournament. This ranges from £1,000 for a first round defeat to £25,000 for winning a tournament. All results are recorded in the PDC European Tour Order of Merit.

At the end of the season the 32 best players compete in the European Championship in Dortmund. This tournament is scheduled from October 27-30.

The PDC European Tour

The european tour.

The PDC European Tour (Euro Tour) has been one of the main reason for the growth in darts across mainland Europe. The events are bigger than Pro Tours, but not the same size as TV events. Players have said the Euro Tour has helped them repair for main TV events.

The European Tour is a series of darts tournaments organised across Europe annually by the PDC. The Euro Tour events see some of the top players in the PDC Order of Merit compete against players that have qualified through various regional tournaments.

There has been a steady increase in the number of events that have taken place in the Euro Tour each year, which had originally started with just five events in 2012. This then increased to eight in 2013 and 2014, nine in 2015, 10 in 2016, 12 in 2017 and has stood at 13 European Tour events from 2018 onwards.

The European Tour events are slightly different to the ones that we see on the Pro Tour as they are all played out on one board in front of an audience. While the European Tour events are not televised, fans are able to stream the events onto their devices via the PDC’s subscription service, which broadcasts all of the European Tour events live.

The PDC European Tour

European Tour Tournaments

The following tournaments make up the current annual European Tour schedule for competing players:

  • Austrian Darts Open
  • German Darts Championship
  • European Darts Open
  • Dutch Darts Masters
  • Gibraltar Darts Trophy
  • European Darts Grand Prix
  • International Darts Open
  • European Darts Matchplay
  • German Darts Open
  • German Darts Grand Prix
  • Czech Darts Open
  • Belgian Darts Championship
  • Hungarian Darts Trophy

The following tournaments were previous events in the EuroTour schedule that are no longer part of the Euro Tour:

  • German Darts Masters
  • European Darts Trophy
  • Dutch Darts Championship
  • Danish Darts Open
  • Austrian Darts Championship

Prize Money

Like in all other PDC events over recent times, prize money has increased pretty significantly in the Euro Tour events. At the opening of the Euro Tour in 2012, there was a total prize pot of £82,100 per event, with the winner claiming a £15,000 share of the money. But the overall prize pot has since increased to £140,000 per event, while European Tour event winners will walk away with £25,000. The entire £140,000 prize pot is now divided as follows:

  • Winner – £25,000
  • Runner-Up – £10,000
  • Semi-Finalist – £6,500
  • Quarter-Finalist – £5,000
  • Last 16 – £3,000
  • Last 32 – £2,000
  • Last 48 – £1,000

Player Performances

Since being introduced in 2012, no player has won more Euro Tour events than Michael van Gerwen, who has an extremely impressive 32 tournament victories to his name. Those 32 wins have come from 40 finals appearances, with there being just one other player that has made double figure finals appearances at European Tour events.

Peter Wright is that player, having made it to 14 Euro Tour event finals and has won six of them. Michael Smith and Phil Taylor are next on the list with four wins apiece on the European Tour, while Mensur Sujlovic, Ian White and Gerwyn Price all have three Euro Tour victories on their resume. Dave Chisnall, Kim Huybrechts and James Wade are the only other players to have multiple European Tour wins in their career.

2018 World Darts Championship winner Rob Cross has the unwanted record of featuring in the most Euro Tour finals without having a victory to his name. Cross has made it to the final of four Euro Tour events to date, but has come out on the losing side in each of them.

Each event will see the top 16 players from the ProTour Order of Merit seeded for the draw, entering in the second round, with the remaining 32 players drawn at random in the first round.

Invited players who are exempted to the last 32 and lose in their first match of the event shall not be credited with prize money on the Order of Merit, ProTour Order of Merit or European Tour Order of Merit, however they shall still receive full prize money payment.

The 16 seeded players for the Dutch Darts Championship (ET7) and NEO.bet European Darts Open (ET8) have been confirmed and are listed below.

The Tour Card Holder Qualifiers for ET7 and ET8 will take place at Halle 39 in Hildesheim on Wednesday May 8, with entries also listed below.

Luke Littler says he plans to reduce his schedule after winning a second European Tour title in Austria on Sunday.

The 17-year-old stormed to victory over Joe Cullen in the final in Graz to pick up another £30,000 in prize winnings.

Littler is flying high at the top of the Premier League, having won three of the last five nights in the competition.

He is on the cusp of securing qualification for the play-off stage and he took his fine recent form to Austria at the weekend.

Luke Littler confirmed he plans to reduce his schedule after winning the Austrian Darts Open

Littler overcame Zoran Lerchbacher on Friday and Damon Heta on Saturday to secure his place in Sunday's final stages.

He beat Krzysztof Ratajski and Danny Noppert to reach the semi-final, where he faced fellow Englishman Ross Smith.

Littler eased past the 35-year-old with a 7-2 win to set up the final against Cullen.

He was not at his best in the final but was still far too good for his opponent, winning 8-4.

Littler's rise up the rankings means he now qualifies automatically for European Tour events.

But he is set to disappoint some fans by admitting he plans to play fewer tournaments.

Littler said: "Yeah if I do well then obviously if I get into the other majors and I've secured myself then I can just drop out of stuff and take the days off as chilling and look onto the next thing.

"So winning this has done me really well."

It is the fourth PDC tournament Littler has won since bursting onto the scene at the World Darts Championship last December.

He won the Bahrain Masters in January and a Players Championship event in February.

Littler's last success before Sunday was at the Belgian Darts Open in March, with much of his focus since being on the Premier League.

His form in Austria proved he is currently the player to beat in the world of darts.

Luke Littler was given a green jacket following his win at the Austrian Darts Open

The teenager, who was given a green jacket for his win, was delighted to pick up another trophy.

Littler added: "I'm just happy to get over the line again.

"It didn't happen [at the European Darts Grand Prix] in Sindelfingen but I've come here and I've put myself right and won another one.

"We started off really well but I think I stuck at it and Joe started to fall off and I saw that and I put my scoring back on top of his and I got over the line.

Luke Littler has now won two European Tour events

"I said Belgium was good but these [fans] are so much better, better than Belgium 100 per cent!

"This weekend has been good, my darts have been good and these guys [the crowd] have helped me so much."
