Great Shows. Good Times. Celebrating 15 Seasons
Postmodern Jukebox
This event has passed, back at dpac the #1 swing, jazz, & ragtime show in the world.
Even in our futuristic age of AI chatbots and virtual realities, there is still nothing in the world that compares with the thrill of hearing classic genres of music, performed live by a group of exceptional singers and musicians that have truly mastered the ability to move an audience. That’s the philosophy behind Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox, whose Life In The Past Lane World Tour returns to 40 US cities. The revamped show will blend modern-day earworms and iconic pop hits with the original styles that put American popular music on the map: Ragtime, Swing, Big Band, Country / Western, Doo Wop and Soul. Equal parts time-traveling musical variety show and career-launching talent platform, Postmodern Jukebox (or “PMJ”) will feature a cast of performers from their wildly popular YouTube channel, to bring the musical universe to life. Everything New is Old Again - leave the AI at home and take a road trip to experience Life in The Past Lane! Dressing in vintage attire is encouraged.

Standing at Concerts
Standing and Dancing at Concerts: DPAC is proud to welcome all types of concerts to our stage. Sometimes during the course of a concert performance, audience members will show their enthusiasm by standing and dancing, especially when encouraged by the performers to do so. Unless directed by the show, we do not ever enforce a must sit policy at concerts. For most concerts, this would not be acceptable to the performers on stage who often love it when the crowd is moved enough by the performance to stand. This is especially true for rock shows and for seats closest to the stage.
Please know that DPAC does not have a “no standing” policy and in most situations will allow guests to stand even if they block the view of the stage for other guests. If your view is ever blocked by a standing or dancing guest, please contact an usher and we’ll attempt to find alternative seating.
- Most tickets buyers purchase right from our website using the Buy Ticket s button on this page.
- In addition to purchasing online, DPAC offers several other ways to purchase the seats you want to the best Broadway, concerts, comedy, family shows and special events in North Carolina.
- Our computerized ticket system enables you equal access to great DPAC seats whether you buy online, by phone, or in person at DPAC.
- For more details, visit our Purchase Seats page for complete information on purchasing great seats for all events at DPAC.
- All tickets for DPAC events are fully digital and only accessible via your mobile device. A mobile ticket is the safest, most convenient, and flexible way to receive and manage your tickets while increasing protection against fraud. To learn more about mobile entry, please visit our Mobile Entry FAQ .
Video Screens
Currently, this event has not approved using our video screens. Please feel free to check back closer to the event for updates. If approved, we will post notice here.
For many concert, comedy, and special events at DPAC, we offer added views of the stage with two big screens (size: 16’ x 9’) hung to the sides of the stage or above the stage. These big screens can add to the visual experience of our concert, comedy, and special events and give guests seated farther from the stage what we like to call “a tenth row view”. Approval to use these screens always rests with the visiting show and about half of all concert and comedy events do use these screens.

Postmodern Jukebox at Royal Festival Hall (Review)
Musical collective Postmodern Jukebox , the brainchild of pianist Scott Bradlee, continues to rack up viral success with their unashamedly retro reimaginations of pop hits. But their archive of YouTube videos does not capture the thrill and exhilaration of their live sets, which combine musical virtuosity, spectacle, and eccentricity in equal measure – and mind-boggling tap dancing courtesy of Jabu Greybeal .
Their current UK tour, including a stop at London’s Royal Festival Hall, is an absolute knockout, with a setlist including Cee Lo Green’s ‘Forget You’, the Spice Girl’s ‘Wannabe’ (I assume included for British fans), and Radiohead’s ‘Creep’ (their signature cover ).
Do all the interpretations equally excite? No. I can’t say I loved the performance of Kate Bush’s ‘Running up That Hill’ – an ’80s evergreen whose popularity has been propelled by its inclusion in the Netflix series Stranger Things – done as a country western number. But you can’t fault the ambition and execution.
Furthermore, the PMJ franchise consistently deploys excellent vocalists in service of their repertoire. Emceeing the evening with ineffable charm and bedazzled blazers, LaVance Colley brought his gospel-honed chops and supersonic falsetto to an uptempo, swinging rendition of Sam Smith’s ‘I’m Not the Only One’, transforming this break-up lament into a snappy rebuke to an unfaithful lover.
Effie Passero , a former American Idol finalist with a multi-octave range and operatic textures, was impressive enough on Kiss’ ‘I Was Made for Loving You’. But then she performed a grand, ever-soaring version of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’ that (deservedly) brought audience members to their feet.
The sumptuously-voiced Tia Simone delivered Metallica’s rock power ballad ‘Nothing Else Matters’ as a soulful dirge, squaring off against terrific trombonist Jay P Floyd. She tip-toed delicately around the opening verse of the White Stripes’ Seven Nation Army, accompanied with just double bass, before letting rip on the chorus as the band kicked in. Nashville-based Sweet Megg was also in strong voice on a 1920s-styled rendition of Dua Lipa’s ‘Levitating’.
Before an encore of Radiohead’s ‘Creep’, the whole ensemble took to the stage to perform Celine Dion’s ‘My Heart Will Go On’, led by Colley. Listening to this archetypal ’90s power ballad be convincingly spun into ’50s doo-wop, I had to simply sit back, laugh, and enjoy the madness.

The Most Memorable Debuts at the 2024 Met Gala
T he Met Gala is the fashion event of the year—the place to see and be seen by the biggest celebrities in Hollywood. Walking that red carpet is as good a signifier as any that a person qualifies as a celebrity. While the world usually has its eyes peeled to see what the biggest names like Rihanna, Zendaya, and Kylie Jenner will wear to walk the red carpet, it’s worth paying special attention to those making their Met Gala debuts, the statements they’re looking to make, and the stories their looks tell to everyone watching.
This year, a number of people are walking the carpet for the first time on the first Monday in May. Here are the most noteworthy individuals making their Met Gala debuts, from Tyla to Ayo Edibiri.
The South African Afrobeats singer barged into the mainstream with the release of her wildly popular song “Water” in July 2023. The song went on to take home the inaugural golden gramophone for Best African Music Performance at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
On the carpet tonight, she stunned in a strapless, skin-tight gown designed by Balmain. The dress looks to have been molded to her body and she says the inspiration was “the sands of time.”
Maleah Joi Moon
Maleah Joi Moon is currently starring in Hell’s Kitchen on Broadway, the semi-autobiographical Alicia Keys jukebox musical. The show is tied with Stereophonic for most Tony nominations this year, nabbing 13 nods. She walked the Met Gala carpet wearing a bright floral Collina Strada gown.
Cole Escola
Alt-cabaret star Cole Escola's off-Broadway show, Oh Mary! , a dark comedy about Mary Todd Lincoln, has been one of the best-reviewed plays of the Broadway season, racking up raves and earning a transfer to Broadway this summer. They walked the carpet for the first time wearing Thom Browne, accented with a fresh bouquet of flowers in a dog-shaped wicker basket.
Ayo Edebiri
Ayo Edebiri swept awards season earlier this year, taking home an Emmy, a Golden Globe, and two SAG Awards for her work in the hit Hulu show The Bear . Along the way, she became a red carpet darling, never missing with a look. She walked the carpet for her Met Gala debut wearing a perfectly-themed Loewe dress with cascading florals.
Rauw Alejandro
Rauw Alejandro is one of the biggest Latin artists in the world and known to be a fashion lover. The 31-year-old reggaeton artist, who seems like he was born for the Met Gala red carpet, took his futuristic aesthetic to the Metropolitan Museum of Art wearing a custom Ludovic de Saint Sernin creation, which seems to be a take on a knight’s armor.
Omar Apollo
Grammy-nominated artist Omar Apollo has been a very fashion-forward celebrity throughout his career, often spotted at various Fashion Weeks. Being a Loewe ambassador, it only makes sense that he would be making his Met Gala debut with the brand, wearing a sleek suit adorned with silver rods on the lapel and three flower brooches.
Nicholas Galitzine
Nicholas Galitzine’s latest movie with Anne Hathaway, The Idea of You , is a runaway hit, and he’s become one of the most in-demand young actors following the success of Mary & George and Red, White & Royal Blue . He took the carpet donning a polished Fendi suit with floral silk embellishments.
Challengers is the internet’s current obsession and the sexy tennis drama’s popularity is peaking at the perfect time—just in time for the Met Gala, which happens to include Zendaya as a co-chair . Mike Faist is the only one of the main three to be making his Met Gala debut this year, wearing Loewe, accented with a turnip boutonniere.
Karol G is breaking streaming records left and right with the release of her most recent album and is currently embarking on a world tour. But the Latin superstar took a break from the whirlwind of touring, walked the red carpet at the Met Gala for the first time wearing prosthetic elf ears and a sheer Marc Jacobs number embellished with large crystals from head to toe.
Wisdom Kaye
Fashion influencer Wisdom Kaye is one of the content creators that the internet has been screaming at the Met to invite. He finally made his Met Gala debut this year wearing a bold red trench coat with burnt accents created by Robert Wun.
Stray Kids made history as the first K-pop group to attend the Met Gala together. Members of Blackpink and NCT have walked the carpet in the past, but never as a group. All eight members wore Tommy Hilfiger as they made their debut on the carpet.
Taylor Russell
Bones and All star Taylor Russell is a global ambassador for Loewe and starred in a campaign for the brand. She adds her name to the considerable list of stars wearing Loewe tonight, making her Met Gala debut.
Da’Vine Joy Randolph
Da’Vine Joy Randolph stole the hearts of many awards show voters this year with her memorable performance in The Holdovers , leading her to earn several awards, including an Oscar, a Golden Globe, and a BAFTA. Tonight, she made her Met Gala debut wearing Zac Posen for Gap.
Jazz pop singer Laufey became an international star with her hit “From the Start,” a song that took off on social media. The Icelandic singer walked the Met Gala red carpet for the first time wearing Prabal Gurung, shortly after two shows at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
Pamela Anderson
Pamela Anderson has been famous for decades, but she graced her first Met Gala red carpet this evening, wearing Oscar de la Renta. She told the New York Times that she feels “everything has led me to this pinnacle moment where I get to be at the Met, being respected and accepted by Anna Wintour.”
Ed Sheeran made his debut at the Met Gala with Stella McCartney, wearing one of her designs, attending with her squad for the evening, which also includes FKA Twigs and Cara Delevigne—two Met Gala regulars.
British singer-songwriter RAYE made history earlier this year at the BRITs after she nabbed a record-breaking number of nominations and later wins at the award ceremony. The 26-year-old artist walked the Met Gala red carpet for the first time wearing a shimmery, silver-fringe custom Fendi gown.

POSTMODERN JUKEBOX? When New York City pianist Scott Bradlee created Postmodern Jukebox out of a basement in Queens in 2011, his goal was simple: to remake the pop hits of today into the classic sounds of the legends of yesterday. Miley Cyrus became The Platters. Bruno Mars became Frank Sinatra. The Spice Girls became The Andrews Sisters.
