Ron Del Barrilito Visitor Center and Tours

Located in Bayamon, Ron del Barrilito and Fernández family have been producing some of the finest rum in the world at the at Hacienda Santa since 1880. Now they have opened up their distillery to the general public with tours and a new Ron del Barrilito Visitor Center.

Operating Mondays to Fridays Ron del Barrilito will be offering three tours:

Heritage Tour

The Heritage tour aims to take you back in time showcasing how world’s finest sipping rum has been made throughout the years. You will learn the history of the Fernandez family , visit several of the Hacienda’s landmarks including: the mansion and windmill that dates back to the early 19th century. The tour also includes a walkthrough of the Ron del Barrilito rum making process.

The tour costs $25 with a complimentary Ron del Barrilito rum cocktail at our Visitor’s Center before starting the tour. The Heritage Tour lasts approximately 30 mins

Mixology Tour

The Ron del Barrilito Mixology Tour is a must for any budding home bartenders. During the tour, which also includes the Heritage Tour, you will be shown the basics of creating high quality cocktails by some of Puerto Rico’s top bartenders.

You will be shown how to craft popular cocktails such as: Old Fashioned, Presidente, and Hemingway Daiquiri using Ron del Barrilito rums.

The Mixology Tour costs $80 (includes Heritage Tour) with a complimentary Ron del Barrilito rum cocktail at our Visitor’s Center before starting the tour. The Mixology Tour lasts approximately 60 minutes.

Rum Tasting Tour

The Ron del Barrilito Rum Tasting Tour is a must for lovers of fine rums. Experience the full range of Ron del Barrilito rums from Dos Estrellas to their cult-classic Tres Estrellas. You will also experience Cuatro Estrellas, a new blend available exclusively at Hacienda Santa Ana and their top shelf; Cinco Estrellas

The tour costs $80 (includes the Heritage Tour) with a complimentary Ron del Barrilito rum cocktail at our Visitor’s Center before starting the tour. The Rum Tasting Tour lasts approximately 60 minutes.

General Tour Information

• At the end of the tours, visitors can enjoy the new Visitors Center and the grounds of the Hacienda Santa Ana
• Visitors must be 18 years or older with a valid ID
• The complimentary cocktail cannot be made with Ron del Barrilito Cuatro Estrellas or Cinco Estrellas
• No professional video or photography equipment is allowed inside the Visitor Center areas
• The use of selfie sticks is prohibited inside the Visitor Center and during guided tours

I recently had the pleasure of touring the Ron del Barrilito rum facility and enjoy a tasting experience. It is less than a 30 minute drive from San Juan to Bayamón and the Hacienda Santa Ana estate. Built on a rich history of handmade craftsmanship, Ron del Barrilito rum is made in small batches the same way it was made in the past. The Ron del Barrilito tour was enlightening.

Rum has not been a goto libation for me, I am a bourbon girl. However, I have never tasted an exceptional rum, until this tour. The Barrilito Old Fashioned surprised me, it was smooth and delicious.

The Stars Tasting

I highly recommend the Tasting Tour , you can sit, relax, sip, and explore the flavors and nuances of the five different rums produced by Ron del Barrilito. Ranked by stars, One Star up to the limited edition Five Stars, each batch has its own properties and recommended uses.

The biggest seller is the classic Three Stars rum which you can find across the island and in select outlets in the US. The Five Stars — aged for 35 years — sells for around $1,000 a bottle. I have never tasted a rum so smooth, rich, and flavorful.

With the Tasting Tour you also enjoy the Heritage Tour and a handcrafted cocktail at the bar.

What to Expect/Itinerary

1 Bright and early, will head to the colonial town of Old San Juan, considered one of the oldest in America and a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Beginning with a sightseeing drive, including picture stops, will give you the chance to appreciate the landmarks of the Capitol Building, San Cristobal Fort and El Morro Fort. • Minimum age to participate in any of the rum tours is 18 years and a valid ID is required.
• Confirmation will be received at time of booking.
• Will be operated by a multi-lingual guide (Spanish and English). Tour might be offered bilingual in case needed.
• Not wheelchair accessible. Participants should be able to walk uphill and downhill Old San Juan Streets.
• We recommend having a light breakfast before pick-up at hotel. We will have lunch around three hours after pick-up. If you have any special dietary restriction, please notify at time of booking and bring your snacks.
• Please keep in mind that we will be walking under the sun at some point. Please bring anything you need to keep you protected against the sun.
• If you have a service animal you have to notify it prior to booking the experience, since other participants in the tour might have asthma or allergies to pets danders.
• This experience requires a minimum number of travelers. If it’s canceled because the minimum isn’t met, you’ll be offered a different date/experience or a full refund.
• This tour/activity will have a maximum of 13 travelers.
