Sabrina Carpenter Teases ‘New Songs’ as She Announces 2023 Tour

By Tomás Mier

Sabrina Carpenter is just circling back, following up, and checking in! On Monday, the singer surprised fans by announcing a second North American leg to her successful Emails I Can’t Send tour.

“i said i was done but i was just confused,” Carpenter wrote on Instagram, quoting a lyric in her song “Already Over” and referring to her brief tour earlier this year. “So excited to announce the second leg of the emails i can’t send tour in North America.”

Carpenter will begin her tour in Fort Lauderdale on Mar. 16 before making her way through Texas and stopping at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles on Apr. 20. She’ll then head to the east coast stopping at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium on May 2 and New York City’s Terminal 5 on May 11.

“I can’t wait to see your faces and maybe even sing some new songs!” she wrote.

This fall, Carpenter stopped in 14 major cities, including Los Angeles’ the Wiltern and New York City’s Webster Hall. Throughout the tour, she went viral for changing the outro to her song “Nonsense” each night.

Coachella 2024: Sabrina Carpenter shines sans Taylor Swift, delivers new 'Nonsense' outro

sabrina carpenter tour stage

The production value was just as important and impressive as the vocals during pop singer Sabrina Carpenter 's debut performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on Friday.

Church bells rang to signal the start of the show. The giant screen TVs played the intro to a fake 1950s noir film called "The Wreckage" starring Carpenter. Her character drove frantically in the middle of the night before crashing into a motel. That motel then served as the backdrop of her set, along with the wrecked vehicle sticking out of the side.

"Hey Coachella," the star said to the crowd as she kicked off her hourlong performance with "Fast Times." She donned an all-gold outfit, with a shiny jacket, shirt and mini skirt. She quickly moved into "Vicious," adding some cool futuristic sunglasses to her outfit, and then "Read your Mind," for which she was joined by two backup singers who added a fun, dreamy backdrop to the already upbeat song.

Coachella 2024: Here's everything pop star Sabrina Carpenter played during her set

Carpenter gained quite a following opening for Taylor Swift during the recent international legs of Swift's Eras Tour . While likely many in the crowd were hoping for a surprise appearance from her famous friend , Carpenter didn't need anyone's help to get people into the groove.

The cinematic aspect of her performance continued with a breaking news alert about chaos at Coachella from the motel car wreckage, along with a (fake, don't worry) tornado warning in Riverside County. It perfectly led into her song "Tornado Warnings," for which she pulled out her guitar to show off her musical talents.

Other interludes included 1950s-esque ads playing and the singer combing her hair, spraying hairspray and flipping through a magazine. Her performance of "because i liked a boy" appeared as though it was playing on a vintage television.

As many Coachella artists have experienced in the past, wind and dust picked up in the middle of her set. "There's so much dust in my throat, if I hit a flat note that's why. I promise I'm a good singer," the artist said to the crowd. But it didn't hinder her performance, nor the excitement surrounding her festival debut.

She continued by adding that it's been a dream of hers to play at the festival for a long time. Carpenter also said she was looking forward to seeing headliner Lana Del Rey perform later in the evening.

The "Feather" singer complimented the audience at one point as well, telling festivalgoers they all look "hot" and they killed it with their outfits, hats, sunglasses and bandanas. However, she did point out that she was missing flower crowns, which were once a staple at the festival, but they might come out during Rey's headlining set, as she notoriously wore them in the past.

Carpenter rewarded fans with her latest groovy single "Espresso," which dropped on Thursday, before going into one of her biggest hits, "Feather," which got most of the crowd singing, dancing and snapping videos.

Just as she's done during other performances, Carpenter ended her set with "Nonsense," and signed off with a custom outro for Coachella.

"All about the balls I'm Cinderella. Only use my mouth that's acapella. I'm so glad you came for me Coachella," she sang.

With a packed crowd applauding at the end, it's safe to say the festival was glad she came too.

I attended the Sabrina Carpenter concert in Cologne, Germany (21st May 2017). I bought the VIP package with meet and greet.

I came for one and a half hour earlier to the venue and there was already a long line. It was really amazing to talk with the other fans. We also sang Sabrina songs together to make the waiting more fun. All in all the waiting itself was a good experience :-)

We had to build a line for the meet and greet . Sabrina is the most beautiful, humble and talented person I know. She was really sweet and it was great to talk to her. We made some selfies and a professional photo, which I could download a couple days after the concert.

One of the best experiences was to hear her acoustic performance of 3 songs. It was in separate area. She has such a powerful voice - it was incredible. She interacted with the audience and she was also very impressed how good we knew the lyrics of her songs and how loud we sang together with her.

After that I somehow managed to get right in front of the stage. After all VIPs had find their spot people with "normal" concert tickets were allowed to come in. The show started with a supporting act. He sang for about half an hour.

Sabrina sang for about one and a half hour. I love how she interacted with the crowd and how she made us feel to be part of the concert. She also tried to talk to us in German :-). It was the best concert I ever attended. I really hope she comes back soon. If you have the opportunity to see Sabrina live - just do it, you won't regret.

The only negative thing was that some parents stand right in front of the stage too so that people especially small children had really problems to see anything. I didn't have these problems (because I was front row) but I know some had really problems to see the performance. Maybe this can be organized better for futur concerts. Other parents just enjoyed the concert in back. I think the parents in the front row should have done this too.

The show was top notch. Sabrina is a phenomenal talent and she truly loves what she's doing. The crowd sang every song with her. The only issue had nothing to do with her but with some of the adults there. They basically refused to allow some of her young fans to be able to stand close to their idol and enjoy the show properly. Several young girls were forced from the front by these adults to the back in tears. This is not only extremely sad but completely uncalled for. These adults (like myself) were there to enjoy the show (yes Sabrina has fans of all ages, young and old alike, deal with it). There's nothing wrong with wanting to enjoy the show. There is, however, everything wrong with treating her young fans like crap and acting like a bunch of entitled, spoiled brats! To those so-called adults (and you know who you are) GROW UP!!!! Fortunately, I was able to help out a couple of the girls with finding a fairly decent viewing point so they could enjoy the show anyhow. Sabrina is a class act on every level. Those adults could learn a thing or two from her. Well done Sabrina. Congratulations on your first tour and all your success. You've earned and deserve every single bit of it. For me it was money well spent.

The concert itself was fantastic.

New Hope and Alex Aiono were very good and Sabrina is a solid entertainer for such a young individual.

Her shows are always packed with energy and her outfits are great.

The wait before was horrendous!!

The venue was not only chaotic, no one knew what was happening.

VIPS for Sabrina were in Alex Aiono's line and vice versa, and regular ticket holders were told to stand behind the VIPs.

I was upset about this as well, because I never received any notification that meet and greets were available. I purchased tickets almost immediately after they went on sale, and the meet/greets were not even offered!

Anyhow, after being pushed around to 3 different lines (from 3:30PM to 6:30PM), being that no one knew exactly where the lines were, the show was late.

Standing in the 90 degree humid weather, near the tour buses that were emitting more heat and exhaust, it was pretty unbearable.

Doors were supposed to open at 6 for seating, but that was delayed by at least a half hour with the simple explanation of Sabrina was being especially "chatty" with the VIPs and she created the delay.

The delay and wait prior to the concert was uncomfortable and not necessary.

Omg it was the most amazing concert I've ever been to!! I totally would recommend a Sabrina Carpenter concert for people of all ages and even for people who don't know her! My mom drove me to Darien lake and almost fainted just so I can see her in concert! I love Sabrina so much she's my idol and I look up to her a lot!! My favorite part of her concert was that she involves the crowd into her concert and in parts of her songs. She interacts with the crowd and just has a great time up on stage dancing and moving around, she looks so natural up on stage and that's only one thing that she's great at and one reason why I love her!! The crowd goes crazy for her and they love her and she's loves all of her fans back! I wish I got a vip meet and greet pass to meet my idol and make my dream come true but I got the preferred seating and I had the best time of my life. Just being there made me feel so happy and to eventually watch her grow and mature in her voice is something that I'm really excited for on top of her many albums to come! I'm will definitely go and see her again!! LOVE YOU SABRINA!!

The concert was absolutely stunning and amazing! She kept us engaged during the concert by letting us sing certain parts of the songs and got us hyped up when she asked us to get off our seats to jump with the music!! Sabrina even made us work out with her by shaking our limbs progressively faster in the middle of the concert. Most importantly, her vocals were absolutely melodic and exactly like what I heard on YouTube, just simply raw talent!

The audience was also very good as no one was really pushing one another to get to the front etc. and everyone was just singing and cheering along to your lovely music!

Once again, thank you for coming to Singapore to perform and I really appreciate it! I hope that you can fulfil your promise of coming here again, especially when you release Singular Act 2!

p.s. Please release it soon, I'm dying to hear the rest of the album ever since you released Pushing 20 and unofficially Exhale.

I loved the concert last night! It was my first real concert and I loved it! Sabrina Carpenter is my favorite artist/singer and when I found out that she was coming to town I immediately asked my parents to go. I loved to choice of songs and the videos that played in the background; my dad especially loved the coordination of the videos. However, I wish some more songs from the "Eyes Wide Open" album, but still loved the songs. The two outfits were fabulous and awesome! I loved the lighting, too. I have listened to Sabrina Carpenter's music since "Can't Blame a Girl for Trying" came out. I watched Disney channel mainly because "Girl Meets World" was on the channel. My favorite song of Sabrina Carpenter is "Eyes Wide Open," it has always been my favorite song ever and always will be. I know every lyric to almost all of her songs and I love her music. It was a great experience to watch her and her band in concert.

This was one of the best shows I’ve attended. Maggie Lindemann, the opening act, sounded very good and got me hyped for the show. Sabrina came out with amazing energy, dancing and singing her heart out the entire show. She sounded phenomenal, and I was extremely excited. The highlight of the night was when I held up my sign and Sabrina read it out loud before Prfct, which is awesome especially because the sign read “Sabrina, ur Prfct to me, we love you”. That meant so much to me that she read it. Overall, this show was infinity stars/5 and I can’t wait for her to come back.

The venue was GREAT! Very personable and enough space to where we didn't feel over crowded!

My daughter Abby had the time of her life! Sabrina mentioned her poster since this was her bday present! She has been BEAMING ever since last night! The band that opened was great too! Interacting with their fans with pictures! Abby will also remember that forever! She said citizen four will be bigger than One Directon! Love the enthusiasm of a soon to be 14 year old! Haha

Thank you for asking for a review!

“It Was Magic”: Sabrina Carpenter Talks Kicking Off Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour

By Christian Allaire

Sabrina Carpenter Talks Kicking Off Taylor Swifts Eras Tour

On Thursday night, Taylor Swift brought her record-breaking Eras tour to Mexico City—and the hits-filled show marked the start of a new opening act for singer Sabrina Carpenter. (Paramore, Phoebe Bridgers, and Beabadoobee have all opened for Swift, too.) “Night one felt unlike any crowd I’ve ever played to before,” says Carpenter. “It was magic.” With another show slated in CDMX this evening, Carpenter will continue to serve as Swift’s opening act through November, with dates in Argentina and Brazil. “It’s a great privilege,” says Carpenter. “Getting to tour with someone I love that greatly inspires me, and also has the kindest and most welcoming fan base ever—I feel so lucky to be part of such an indelible tour.”

Of course, prepping for such an experience was no easy feat. But luckily, for Carpenter, she’s already been in serious training mode for well over a year now. “I’ve been dreaming this up for a while, and thankfully I just got off a year-long tour of my own, so I felt like that helped me prepare,” says Carpenter. Even so, the Eras tour marks a whole new setlist and stage vibe for the singer, explaining that she wanted to devote all her effort to the performance. “I wanted to bring a lot of energy, since I’m 5 feet tall and there’s a lot of people,” jokes Carpenter. “So my band and I put a very fun show together.”

Carpenter also wanted to bring her fashion A-game to each concert, too. Working with the Ukrainian brand Frolov , Carpenter has committed to two custom looks for her Eras shows—a black and blue strapless mini dress, both with heart cut-outs at the bust. “I’m in my short skirt era—no surprise to anyone—but I felt especially attached to this custom Frolov look,” says Carpenter. “I wore it once before, [and] they were kind enough to make it for me in multiple colors. It really just shines on stage in a way I love.” The singer also loved their practical and wearable design. “They make such beautiful cutouts that feel sturdy and secure, so I don’t question moving in them,” says Carpenter.

As for what can we expect as the tour progresses? Perhaps the singer will debut some new fashions in the later dates—but for now, Carpenter is keeping things a secret. “You will have to wait and see,” teases Carpenter. “but I don’t play when it comes to my outfit, so...”

Sabrina Carpenter has shared a collection of photos from The Eras Tour, including a snapshot from her visit to the Sydney Zoo with Taylor Swift .

Carpenter was Swift’s opening act across several dates in Latin America, Australia and Asia. The Eras Tour returns in May for a European leg, with Paramore as opener.

Another special Eras memory happened in Sydney: When Carpenter was unable to perform her set one night due to rain delays, Swift invited her to sing a mashup of Evermore ‘s “Coney Island” and Fearless ‘ “White Horse” with her.

“She heroically sacrificed her show, which I think is a crime against Sydney,” Swift explained during the acoustic section at Accor Stadium on Feb. 23.

Swift said “White Horse” was a favorite of Carpenter’s. YouTube footage exists of the “Nonsense” singer (and longtime Swiftie) covering the song when she was a young girl.

I am in my 70s. Two years ago I had scarcely heard of Taylor Swift. Now here I am following your blog of her Melbourne concert. It is very moving. I hope all these wonderful young people have a magnificent time. I haven’t had this much fun since the Beatles in the 60s. It was easier to get tickets then.

Dressing for a Taylor Swift concert is no easy feat. The concert is a journey through all Swift’s musical eras, broken up among her 10-album discography, and as we explained earlier, each “era” demands a very specific dress code. Tisha Aisyah Afliansh says as a recently engaged Taylor Swift fan she had no choice by to encompass the Lover era. “I just found this [dress] in H&M, but this has Lovers colours. And also matching rings and necklace; love, love.” Sarah Allsopp recreated the You Need to Calm Down music video, with fake butterfly tattoos on her back. After a quick YouTube search and little dance, I can confirm Swift sports the same back tattoo in the film clip. Guardian fact-checking at it’s finest right there.

Bree Leitch went one step further and got a snake tattoo on her arm “for the concert”. And yes, it’s real.

We’re getting some good Twitter/X footage, which bodes well for reception!

Apparently Sabrina just said “Australians are so hot”, which, true.

In other news, our Guardian group chat is popping off!

Sian said earlier:

The vibes are very calm! It’s like the opposite of a sport game. Even the cops have bracelets on.

I expect this has changed now that the concert has started.

What to expect from Sabrina Carpenter’s set?

We are told there was “just an announcement and some cheers” from within the stadium, indicating Sabrina Carpenter is on stage.

Carpenter’s hit songs are Feather and Nonsense, so they will definitely get a run – but Nonsense has its own moment to watch out for: each time she plays it live she adds a few city-specific (and usually sexually explicit) lines to the outro.

For example:

“I just wanna ride him like a rodeo / But first he gotta grow it like Pinocchio / Sorry I’m so vulgar, San Antonio.”

In fact, they got so raunchy that her performance on BBC’s Live Lounge was taken off YouTube shortly after being uploaded, and was promptly replaced with a version cutting abruptly before the outro.

Luckily we have no such qualms – she sang:

“I’m American I am not British / So BBC it stands for something different / This live lounge is just so lit because I’m in it.”

It’s a savvy trick that means each time she plays you can be sure hundreds of videos will be uploaded by fans. Now a viral sensation, she was quickly snapped up by Swift to open for her during the international leg of her tour – and since her first Eras slot, she’s established another TikTok-able moment: a small dance section of the song Feather.

Who is Sabrina Carpenter?

We’re ten minutes from the scheduled start time for Sabrina Carpenter ’s opening set. We all know Swift’s 2016 villain arc (the Kanye West video) and redemption story (arguably the Lover era), but did you know that Carpenter has been through this public-opinion hero’s journey too?

Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter and Gayle at the 2022 American Music Awards.

The US pop star started off on the Disney Channel, playing Maya Hart on Girl Meets World. She put out a few songs during her stint on the show, and was liked well enough, but it was a different Disney star that threw Carpenter into the public eye: Olivia Rodrigo, whose hit debut album Sour was almost definitely about her breakup from Joshua Bassett, who, according to the album at least, began dating another girl VERY shortly after their split.

The hints in the lyrics of Rodrigo’s songs hint at who that girl could have been: Sabrina Carpenter, seen hanging out with Bassett in the months after the breakup – and who suffered the wrath of the internet as a result.

Luckily, she’s very funny – and as the initial wave of hate died down, she started winning people over on social media with posts like this.

Taylor Swift  and Sabrina Carpenter had a moment on Friday as the duo joined forces for a surprise medley of the former's "White Horse" and "Coney Island."

Swift's first night at Accor Stadium in Sydney, Australia, began with a bit of drama as a portion of the venue was evacuated before the start of the show due to weather. As a result, Swift's opener, Carpenter, was not able to perform her scheduled set.

"She heroically sacrificed her show, which I think is a crime against Sydney," Swift told the audience during the acoustic portion of her Eras Tour concert while seated at a piano. After inviting Carpenter to join her on stage, she addressed their multiple visits to the Sydney Zoo .

"We were talking, I think it might have been one of the times we were at the zoo," Swift began. "We've been 100 percent of our days off here."

She continued on her brief tangent, joking, "I don't think you guys understand how cool kangaroos are. ... They are so cool, so strong, so bouncy."

Swift relayed that during one of their outings, Carpenter shared with her that one song in her catalogue was "really important" to the "Feather" singer as a child. Carpenter then revealed the song to be Swift's 2008 Fearless track, "White Horse."

The women performed a beautiful rendition of the song together, combining it with Swift's evermore track, "Coney Island."

Earlier in the surprise songs set, Swift played 1989 's "How You Get the Girl" and debuted a new album cover for her upcoming 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department . The latest special edition features a bonus track called "The Albatross."

Swift's newest Tortured Poets cover fits the same monochrome aesthetic as her previous offerings, but this time shows a full shot of the singer facing the camera while wearing a loose white button-up blouse as she appears to stand in front of an ocean. The back cover includes the phrase, "Am I Allowed to Cry?"

"I'm really, really proud of this record," she told the audience while showing the album art on a jumbo screen behind her.

Among those in the crowd on Friday was Swift's boyfriend,  Travis Kelce , as well as  Katy Perry ,  Rita Ora ,  Taika Waititi ,  Toni Collette  and  Baz Luhrmann .

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end  showed up with his pal, Ross Travis,  and was pictured in a VIP tent enjoying the show while wearing a blue patterned tee with both arms full of friendship bracelets.

As she closed out her show with "Karma," Swift notably changed her lyric to belt out, "Karma is the guy on the Chiefs coming straight home to me."

A source told ET on Thursday , "Taylor and Travis are both super busy right now, but they are trying their best to prioritize each other and their relationship. Travis is very into Taylor and wanted to be there to support her during her shows in Australia. He’s grateful that she showed up for him during a very hectic time in her career and made it a point to do the same for her. They’re making a joint effort to make things work."

Her latest performance is Swift's first of four sold-out shows scheduled at Accor Stadium in Sydney.

Following her time down under, Swift is set to take the Eras Tour to Singapore to perform a run of six sold out shows from March 6-9.

After that, the 34-year-old singer will take a month-long hiatus from road life in April, as she gears up to release The Tortured Poets Department  on April 19. Then, she'll resume touring on May 9 in Paris, France.

Sabrina Carpenter has had quite the busy year. After opening up for Taylor Swift during her sold out Eras tour earlier this year, the pop artist is now playing on the main stage at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival . It’s the “Nonsense” artist’s first time performing at the annual festival, something she celebrated with the crowd in a break between songs.

Sabrina Carpenter brought bejeweled glamour to the stage during Taylor Swift’s “Eras” world tour . The musician opened Swift’s latest show in Brazil during the concert’s international leg — which will also find her performing in Australia and Singapore in 2024, following past appearances in Mexico and Argentina.

The sleek pair provided a smooth complement to Carpenter’s attire for the occasion: a black halter-style crop top and matching miniskirt. Each piece was embellished and strung with rows of gleaming crystals in hues of pink, orange, green, blue and purple, creating a bejeweled and multicolored finish.

Carpenter’s appearances on Swift’s tour is continuing her eventful autumn. In addition to dropping her “Fruitcake” holiday EP in November, the “Almost Love” singer kicked off the fall season in September with the release of her latest perfume, Caramel Dream. The sweet fragrance — which retails for $30 on Scent Beauty — features an amber, musk and sandalwood base with notes of vanilla, almond, dark chocolate beans and citrus fruits for a sugary, whimsical scent.

Sabrina Carpenter may have dropped this year's summer bop with 'Espresso.' Here's how valuable a summer hit can be.

  • Sabrina Carpenter just dropped "Espresso," which is already topping the charts.
  • She may have just released this year's summertime hit.
  • Here's how lucrative those sunny, summer hits can be.

Insider Today

Sabrina Carpenter is having her moment.

With her new song "Espresso," the pop star may have just dropped this year's summertime hit.

And that's after months of opening for Taylor Swift's Eras Tour, starting a new relationship with "Saltburn" star Barry Keoghan, and performing at Coachella this weekend. She's been busy.

In her caffeinated new hit, Carpenter gloats about keeping men up at night like an espresso would.

"And now he's thinkin' 'bout me every night, oh. Is it that sweet? I guess so," she sings. "Say you can't sleep, baby, I know. That's that me, espresso."

In the accompanying music video , Carpenter and her girlfriends relax at the beach, where they are doted on by men who oil them up and fan them with palm branches. She channels a "Breakfast at Tiffany's" vibe in some scenes, complete with a head scarf, sunglasses, and luxury shopping bags.

The song dropped on Friday and was ranked seventh on Spotify's Top 50 by Saturday with nearly 1.5 million listens.

In years past, the top song of the summer has often been a pop hit, though last year saw a country exception. In 2023, Morgan Wallen's "Last Night" topped the charts all summer long. In 2022, it was Harry Styles' "As It Was." And the year before that, the top bop was "Good 4 U" by Olivia Rodrigo.

But becoming a summer playlist darling is more than just bragging rights for artists. It can completely revitalize or solidify one's career — just ask Miley Cyrus and SZA.

Cyrus' 2023 single "Flowers" breathed new life into her career after a rocky public persona

Although "Flowers" burst onto the scene in January 2023, the disco-influenced pop song on "Endless Summer Vacation" became one of the most beloved hits of that summer.

Related stories

Apple Music announced Miley Cyrus as the second most streamed song of 2023, and the song topped several Billboard Charts , including reigning supreme on the Adult Contemporary Chart for a record-breaking 37 weeks. "Flowers" also became the fastest song in Spotify history to reach one billion streams as of May 2023.

The single no doubt cushioned Cyrus' wallet, but Business Insider cannot confirm the official amount. Apple Music does not share streaming numbers, and Spotify doesn't publicly say how much it pays artist royalties.

However, outlets like Forbes have reported that the money continues to roll in for Cyrus more than a year after "Flowers" debuted. The song rose 2,100% in sales the week of February 15, proving the catchy tune hasn't strayed from the public's mind.

"Flowers" afforded Cyrus more than money, though. It also allowed her to revitalize her public persona and snag some awards along the way. Like Carpenter, Cyrus was a Disney child star who amassed international fame with "Hannah Montana." But her reputation stumbled in the 2010s as she faced accusations of cultural appropriation and publicly navigated her transition into an adult celebrity .

Cyrus had released several singles before dropping "Flowers," including "Nothing Breaks Like a Heart," but none reached the same heights. She snagged the Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance awards at this year's 66th Annual Grammy Awards .

Since winning the awards, two industry giants have publicly co-signed her musical talents with high-profile collaborations. Cyrus released "Doctor (Work It Out)" with Pharrell Williams in March and recently featured on Beyoncé's newest album, "Cowboy Carter."

SZA's "Kill Bill" also emerged as a summer hit that brought recognition and profit

Alongside the summer success of "Flowers" is "Kill Bill," the smooth R&B song by SZA that became a single in January 2023 and cruised into the summer as a fan favorite.

At the time of writing, the song has amassed more than 1.7 billion streams on Spotify and became the third-most streamed song on Apple Music's 2023 global charts. "Kill Bill" broke the record for most weeks at No.1 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs in May 2023, according to the company .

Money-wise, BI can't confirm the official amount she made from the single, but Billboard reported that her catchy songs on "SOS" brought fans out to her tour. The tour, which took place between February 2023 and March 2023, generated $34.5 million with 238,000 tickets sold and likely outdid her first tour for "CTRL."

Like "Flowers," SZA's single success helped boost her career and solidify herself as an R&B mainstay, a feat some questioned after waiting since 2017 for a new album.

"Kill Bill" garnered praise from critics and received a number of award nominations, including three at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards . Since then, SZA's career has only continued to grow.

She attended the iHeart Radio Awards this month and won four of them, including Song of the Year for "Kill Bill." More recently, she performed for audiences at the Dreamville music festival, where other major acts like J. Cole and Nicki Minaj also appeared.

So with "Espresso," Carpenter has a chance to catapult herself onto the big stage and secure her place as a bonafide star.

Sabrina Carpenter Wore Rhinestone Undies To Perform At Coachella

If ever there was a time and place for it...

Sabrina Carpenter performs at the Coachella Stage during the 2024 Coachella.

There’s no stopping Sabrina Carpenter. After months of opening for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, AKA the “Taybrina era,” and going viral for her “Nonsense” adlib outros, which she famously tailors to each locale, she’s back on stages once again. This time, she popped up in the desert for Coachella 2024’s opening weekend.

Carpenter took the festival stage on Friday, April 12, and wowed the crowd several times over. This was largely due to her A+ set list, of course, but it was also because of her multiple outfit changes.

Sabrina’s Shades Of Beige

Even before the TikTok-aided rise of coquettecore, Carpenter has carved her space among fashion’s most discerning as an icon of girlhood. Thus far, her oft-cutesy ensembles have included heart-shaped cut-outs, ruffled bloomers, and bows, coquette’s most recognizable symbol.

For her Coachella performance, however, Carpenter veered from her signature style. Instead, she went for a bit more bite. Replacing her usual frills, the singer rocked a Roberto Cavalli snakeskin jacket in tan and butter tones, which she layered over a bedazzled top with a fringed hem. The sparkly silver number perfectly matched her crystal-encrusted microphone — a performer’s ultimate accessory.

Playing homage to the late designer, whose passing was announced earlier that day, Carpenter wore a pleated micro mini also from Cavalli. Complete with a super-short hemline, the waistband was embellished with bejeweled panthers, the Italian house’s iconic logo.

Her Glitzy Undies

No stranger to short-short hemlines, Carpenter made sure to wear undies worth flaunting. Adding even more sparkle to her already glitzy desert look, the pop star added a bejeweled bra and matching panties. And it was absolutely the right choice — there’s one place to wear bedazzled underwear, it’s definitely Coachella.

Sabrina’s “Feather”-Coded Look

Changing into another Cavalli number, the “Feather” singer leaned into the theme of her hit song. She wore a little white dress (the spring equivalent of an LBD) that was positively befeathered, with plumes attached to the sleeves and hem. Adding even more texture, its heart-shaped bodice was blanketed in crystals.

She topped off the look with a diaphanous robe with — surprise, surprise — more feathers. She further merchandised the ensemble with white platform boots that, like the rest of her on-stage uniform, were also completely yassified. A winning Coachella debut.

Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter Bring ‘White Horse’ to Life on the Eras Tour

taylor-swift-sabrina-carpenter-eras-tour

The magic of the “Eras Tour” continues to unfold, this time with a dream collaboration that took fans by surprise. In Sydney, Australia, Taylor Swift and rising pop star Sabrina Carpenter joined forces for a stunning rendition of Swift’s early country hit, “White Horse.” The unexpected duet instantly became a highlight of the tour, sending Swifties and Carpenter fans into a collective frenzy.

The moment itself was pure enchantment. Carpenter, a self-proclaimed Swiftie, donned a flowing white dress, mirroring the ethereal vibes of the original music video. The two artists stood center stage, their voices intertwining beautifully on the nostalgic melody. Swift’s seasoned vocals blended seamlessly with Carpenter’s youthful charm, creating a harmonious reimagining of the beloved song.

The emotional weight of the performance wasn’t lost on the audience. “White Horse,” released in 2008, marked a pivotal point in Swift ‘s career, establishing her as a storytelling songwriter. Performing it alongside Carpenter, an artist heavily influenced by Swift’s early work, felt like a passing of the torch, an acknowledgment of musical lineage and shared artistic DNA.

But the magic didn’t stop there. After the performance, Swift surprised fans by acknowledging Carpenter’s upcoming album, “emails I can’t send,” on her Instagram story. This seemingly simple gesture fueled speculation about a potential future collaboration, further elevating the excitement surrounding the duet.

This wasn’t the first time the “Eras Tour” has surprised audiences with cross-generational collaborations. Throughout the tour, Swift has welcomed fellow musicians like Haim, Ben Platt, and Phoebe Bridgers, creating unique moments that transcend individual eras. These collaborations celebrate the interconnectedness of music, showcasing the influence of past generations on contemporary artists like Carpenter.

The Swift-Carpenter duet resonated with fans beyond nostalgia and musicality. It represented a powerful message of female empowerment and mentorship. Seeing them share the stage felt like a declaration of solidarity, reminding everyone that the music industry isn’t a competition but a collaborative space where artists can learn, inspire, and uplift each other.

The impact of this performance extends far beyond the concert hall. It’s a testament to the enduring power of “White Horse” and its ability to connect artists and fans across generations. It sparks conversations about mentorship, artistic legacies, and the ever-evolving landscape of pop music.

Whether or not a Swift-Carpenter collaboration materializes, the “White Horse” duet has etched itself into “Eras Tour” history. It serves as a reminder that music is timeless, capable of bridging eras and fostering meaningful connections between artists and fans alike. With this surprise performance, Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter have proven that musical magic happens when eras collide, leaving fans wondering what unexpected collaborations might still be in store for the “Eras Tour.”

Taylor Swift invites surprise guest on Eras Tour stage in Sydney after she ‘heroically sacrificed her show’

Taylor swift introduces suprise guest, sabrina carpenter, with a heartwarming speech after her opening act was axed due to stormy weather on eras tour night..

The latest heartwarming moment between Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter , who's once again stepped in as her opening act for the Eras Tour shows in Sydney, has lit up fans' hearts with admiration for the talented besties.

Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter perform White Horse together at Accor Stadium.(X )

The Feather singer's moment in the spotlight was stolen from her when the first Sydney concert night got off to a rough start. Stormy weather and rain led to the evacuation of Accor Stadium to prevent any unforeseen dangers. This safety drill ultimately resulted in Carpenter's opening act being axed.

However, Taylor couldn't stand her support act's presentation being cancelled. Once the Fearless musician took to the stage, she made sure her talented friend got the chance to flaunt her artistry despite being twenty minutes behind schedule.

Taylor Swift - Sabrina Carpenter's sweet moment during Eras Tour Sydney concert

Inviting Sabrina to the stage, Taylor showered her with a string of supportive and wholesome adjectives: “My incredibly talented, wonderful, gorgeous, hilarious, genius opening act Sabrina Carpenter.”

“She heroically sacrificed her show, which I think is a crime against Sydney”, went on the Red songstress. Doing her bit to fix the issue, she brought her out and urged the Sydney crowd to “scream as loud as (they) possibly” could to welcome the “brilliant” Thumbs singer.

Taylor's surprise song performances at Eras Tour soon transformed into a surprise duet as the fans were treated to the acoustic session. The 24-year-old Carpenter took a seat beside Taylor at the piano.

Sabrina eventually opened up about the importance of White Horse for her as she was growing up; lucky for her, the sweet duo performed a new rendition of the song mashed up with Swift's 2020 Evermore track Coney Island. The 24-year-old pop singer has also opened for Taylor's concert stops in Mexico, Argentina and Brazil.

With Taylor's boyfriend, Travis Kelce, also attending the show, the Karma singer again made the most of the opportunity and changed the lyrics as a nod to the Kansas City Chiefs star player: "Karma is the guys on the Chiefs!" The power couple enjoyed their day out during their Sydney Zoo date ahead of the concert.

Sabrina Carpenter Drops a Perky Bop, and 10 More New Songs

Hear tracks by girl in red, Margo Guryan, Phish and others.

A blond woman dressed in a lavender dress sings into a white microphone onstage.

By Jon Pareles and Lindsay Zoladz

Every Friday, pop critics for The New York Times weigh in on the week’s most notable new tracks. Listen to the Playlist on Spotify here (or find our profile: nytimes) and at Apple Music here , and sign up for The Amplifier , a twice-weekly guide to new and old songs.

Sabrina Carpenter, ‘ Espresso ’

The rising pop artist Sabrina Carpenter scored a hit with the breathily sung disco throwback “Feather,” but she seems poised for an even bigger smash. Enter “Espresso,” a cheeky, summery tune that just might have the juice to propel her to the next level. Atop a mid-tempo beat that lightly recalls the muffled retro-funk of “Say So,” the song that made Doja Cat a star, Carpenter plays the unbothered temptress with winking humor: “Say you can’t sleep, baby I know, that’s that me, espresso.” Make it a double and get ready to hear this one everywhere. LINDSAY ZOLADZ

girl in red, ‘ I’m Back ’

In “I’m Back,” girl in red — the Norwegian songwriter Marie Ulven Ringheim — defies the cycles of depression. “It’s not like I wanna die,” she whisper-sings. “At least not now/I love being alive.” Quasi-Baroque keyboard arpeggios pace a track that holds back, recognizes that “Time doesn’t stop for a sad little girl” and surges as she decides, “This time I think I’m found.” One-syllable words; deep breakthroughs. JON PARELES

Maggie Rogers, ‘ The Kill ’

A highlight from the singer-songwriter Maggie Rogers ’s loose and casually confident third album, “Don’t Forget Me,” “The Kill” is a soft-rock breakup song that switches perspective halfway through, assigning mutual responsibility for a near-miss relationship’s demise. “We were both so difficult,” Rogers sings soulfully, “but so invincible.” ZOLADZ

Lizz Wright featuring Angelique Kidjo, ‘ Sparrow ’

Lizz Wright promises sanctuary, consolation and strength in “Sparrow” from her new album “Shadow.” Folky guitar and fiddle and a quietly insistent six-beat rhythm support Wright’s benevolent, ever resolute voice as she calls on a lover to return. With Angelique Kidjo singing incantatory lines in the background, summoning African roots, Wright recalls stormy, fearful times and vows, “We gonna rise up singing.” PARELES

Margo Guryan, ‘ Moon Ride ’

Margo Guryan’s 1968 album of gently psychedelic chamber-pop, “Take a Picture,” was rediscovered in the early 2000s by pop crate-diggers like Beck and Cornelius and more recently on TikTok. In the 1950s, Guryan was immersed in jazz, writing lyrics for tunes like Ornette Coleman’s “Lonely Woman” and getting her own songs recorded by Dizzy Gillespie, Harry Belafonte and Astrud Gilberto; she went on to write the intricate Top 40 hit “Sunday Mornin’” for Spanky and Our Gang. A new boxed set, “Words and Music,” unveils 16 previously unreleased tracks including “Moon Ride” from 1956, which the jazz singer Chris Connor recorded in 1958. It’s an easy-swinging shuffle with a cheerfully dissonant flute playing alongside Guryan. She recounts a “hair-raising, nail-biting, frightening flight” where she’s captured by moon men, shoots her ray gun and escapes across the “uneven cheese-covered ground” — all with diffident 1950s cool and a hint of a wink in her voice. PARELES

Phish, ‘ Evolve ’

Trey Anastasio sings as a genial voice of God in “Evolve,” which will be the title track of Phish’s first studio album since 2020. The tune is from Phish’s countryish side, lilting behind a deity who’s having second thoughts about the results of creation: “A million little things to solve/Or not — I’ll let them all evolve.” Phish fans have already heard one version of “Evolve” on Anastasio’s 2020 album, “ Lonely Trip,” and lately the band has been playing it on tour. The studio version has changed key and grown a bit too formal, adding vocal harmonies and a string section. No doubt it will loosen up at concerts, still evolving. PARELES

Phelimuncasi and Metal Preyers, ‘ Gidigidi ka Makhelwane ’

The politically minded South African group Phelimuncasi, from Durban, collaborated in a Ugandan studio with Jesse Hackett, Gorillaz’s longtime keyboardist who sometimes records as Metal Preyers, on the new album “Izigqinamba” (“The Rules”). Its opener, “Gidigidi ka Makhelwane,” is a rhythm-forward track that syncopates briskly chanted, matter-of-fact female and male vocals from Phelimuncasi’s Malathon, Makan Nana and Khera amid hissing beatbox sounds, deep log-drum beats and — out of nowhere — an occasional church bell: serious but definitely skewed. PARELES

Bruno Berle, ‘ Acorda e Vem ’

The Brazilian singer and songwriter Bruno Berle, and his musical collaborator batata boy, merge airborne ballad crooning and surreal electronics in “Acorda e Vem” (“Awaken and Come”) from Berle’s album, “No Reino dos Afetos 2” (“In the Kingdom of Emotions 2”). His voice is an androgynous tenor further stretched by Auto-Tune; his plea, over two recurring, disembodied chords, is to “Recover the magic/Recover what dissolved in emotions and tears.” PARELES

Phosphorescent, ‘ Fences ’

Phosphorescent — the songwriter Matthew Houck — laments a rift that’s grown irreparable in the careworn folk-rock of “Fences.” With a trudging beat and hovering pedal-steel guitar, he mingles apology, disbelief and complaint: “You thought I might not see that you were way wrong.” The chorus — “You’re building fences” — brings consoling harmonies to what he knows he must accept. PARELES

Melissa Aldana, ‘ Echoes of the Inner Prophet — For Wayne Shorter ’

The Chilean jazz saxophonist Melissa Aldana pays tribute to Wayne Shorter with a ballad very much in his style: seemingly tentative but moving ahead, harmonically complex but tenderly songlike. That melody emerges as her quintet wafts abstract ideas around her — skittering piano runs, little guitar patterns, distant electronics — that still, somehow, coalesce. PARELES

Carlos Niño & Friends, ‘ Love to All Doulas! ’

One of the primary collaborators behind André 3000’s instrumental album, “New Blue Sun,” was Carlos Niño, who has recorded extensively with his own fluid assemblages of “friends.” Niño’s album due May 24, “Placenta,” reflects on the birth of his second child, now 1 year old, and like “New Blue Sun” it invokes drone, ambient and ritual music. “Love to All the Doulas” moves in misty, long-breathed arcs, with the hornlike tones of Nate Mercereau’s guitar synthesizer feeling out a melody among beatless percussion and tremulous strings, creating a lingering hush of anticipation. PARELES

Jon Pareles has been The Times’s chief pop music critic since 1988. He studied music, played in rock, jazz and classical groups and was a college-radio disc jockey. He was previously an editor at Rolling Stone and the Village Voice. More about Jon Pareles

Sabrina Carpenter Says Being on the Eras Tour 'Feels Like a Broadway Show': 'I Feel So Lucky That I Get to Watch Taylor'

"It makes me want to tour the world again, which is a good feeling," the pop star said of joining Swift out on the road

Like Swifties across the globe, Sabrina Carpenter is in complete awe of the Eras Tour .

In a recent interview with Cosmopolitan , the pop star, 24, opened up about opening for Taylor Swift 's career-spanning concert at stadiums around the world. The "Nonsense" singer compared the Eras Tour's top-notch performances and spectacle to feeling "like a Broadway show," and shared how "lucky" she feels to get to watch the pop superstar, 34, up on stage.

"It almost feels like a Broadway show because everything is so synchronized but at the same time feels so in the moment," Carpenter told the magazine of Swift's acclaimed live show.

"That’s an art," the "Feather" singer added. "It’s really hard to teach. It’s really hard to learn."

The pop artist explained that watching the Grammy winner — whom she supported in Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Japan, Australia and Singapore — every night left her feeling motivated. "I feel so lucky that I get to watch Taylor perform every time," she shared. "It makes me want to tour the world again, which is a good feeling."

The Emails I Can't Send artist explained, "After a show, I think a lot about what I want to do differently the next time and what I want to do with my own show in two years."

Carpenter also noted that she enjoyed visiting places that she hadn't previously been to on the tour. While the singer/actress admitted that traveling so much in the past few months has taught her that she has to work on "getting everything to quiet down," she said that the opportunity has also left her inspired.

"I’m grateful for my inability to turn my brain off at times because that’s when I come up with ideas," the singer-songwriter said. "I feel creative. I feel excited."

Carpenter told Cosmopolitan that the Eras Tour was a learning experience not just because she got "to watch one of the greatest performers ever night," but because she felt as though she could use the opportunity to grow as a performer herself.

"My favorite thing to do has always been to watch people who look so comfortable in their bodies onstage, like Madonna and Britney [Spears] and Prince ," Carpenter shared. "Sometimes when you don’t have a mirror in front of you and you can’t actually see how you look, a lot of the learning comes from watching a video back and thinking, 'Oh, I thought I was giving more than I was actually giving .' "

For the former Disney Channel star, that mean learning "to be larger than life in some capacity," given how small her 5-foot frame felt on the stage.

After first joining Swift in late 2023 for several shows in Mexico City, and then playing her first two legs of 2024 international dates, Carpenter recently wrapped her stint as the opening act on the Eras Tour.

Shortly after the "Because I Liked a Boy" singer and the hitmaker finished their final dates together in Singapore, Carpenter posted to Instagram to share a thoughtful farewell post to the tour .

"That’s a wrap for us on the eras tour :’)" she began the caption of a post featuring photos of her and Swift on the road together.

"Sitting at home reflecting on what a whirlwind this was and how very honored I feel to have been part of it," she continued. "I want to thank every crowd for being so welcoming and generous to us and making some of the most impressive friendship bracelets I’ve ever received."

After shouting out the "hardworking" crew, Carpenter wrote, "And the most thank you’s I’ve ever thank you’d to Taylor."

"I feel so lucky to witness the magic that is you and this tour," the musician added. "There is truly no one like you and there never will be! I love you with all my heart and I will cherish this taybrina era (and all the eras) till the end of time 💞💞💞."
