Ivan is incredibly knowledgeable and welcoming. I felt very safe at all times and he was very accommodating. Ivan made sure that everyone was super comfortable and happy, it was great to be apart of such a trip! He was even able to change the trip on the fly as there was bad weather that would have precluded a lesser guide from being able to keep everyone happy and comfortable. However, Ivan accommodated everything with grace and courtesy.

The guide/skipper was great. Informative about where we were going and the plans for each day. All dinner restaurants he took us to, were amazing!! The group was much older than I expected, wanted to travel and meet younger travellers. Price was worth the value of the trip.

The itinerary was excellent. There was a good group of people aboard ship sharing a wonderful experience. Our captain was exceptional. He was a good sailor and knew the ports of call and could offer advise about where to go and what to see. He was friendly and inclusive. He was also a good cook.

Amazing tour, couldn’t rate it highly enough. I was a solo female traveller and had a fabulous time. Lucas is awesome and really is a fabulous tour guide, I’m so happy he is back doing what he loves since Covid! I’m already looking at which tour to do next year. Thanks Koda for creating a tour for the young professionals!

Croatian islands cruise + Land tour with Plitvice - from Zagreb

Overall it was a good vacation, Marko was always quick to respond to my questions. The reason I am giving this a 4 star instead of 5 is because there was little issues I had to deal with during our trip, we were on vacation and did not need to stress about those issues. One issue was the last minute change of ship without notifying us about it. Second, our itinerary was also changed due to the ship change. The way our itinerary read was that we were included on the daily tours, but apparently we were not, which we had to pay for one of the parks and Marko did message me saying we would get reimbursed for it, but have yet to receive that reimbursement, in the same message he informed us that they would include us in some not all the tours. The land tour part was great and went without a hitch, the cruise part not so much as the ship manager was rude to us on the first day immediately after boarding and Although Marko was great with communication in this manner, it did not help the situation when he informed the ship manager of our complaint right away as it made the rest of the cruise awkward with her and she must have also told the crew. Aida was the ship manager, she did change her attitude with us and was a bit better plus I’m sure the culture difference had something to do with her manners as I noticed a lot of Croatian people seemed to be this way. Also the captain of the Avangard, the ship we were placed in, was unfriendly and rude. We tried saying hello when we saw him and he simply ignored us. The captain also yelled at some of the guests and myself one night as we did meet wonderful people on board, they invited us back to their room for a glass of wine to celebrate a guest’s mother’s 80th birthday. We were sitting there just chatting and getting to know one another when the captain bursts in and yells at us like if we were little kids! Mind you I’m 37 and the other people in the room are all over 40. He yells at us saying “this is not a bar! You go now!!” We were only having wine to celebrate an 80th birthday not being wild! The captain left and immediately comes back again before we even have a chance to get up and yells “room is for two people only! Room is for sleeping only! You go now! Leave!!” There was no warning from him prior and he could have handled this more professionally. We also had to pay taxes at the end of the cruise, which we for sure thought they were included in the package and I also paid $50 or $60 dollars extra for some meal and my friend did not pay this but we both had the same meals so I’m not sure what the extra amount was for?? Also, for the cruise be prepared to tip all the crew at the end of the cruise, I don’t have a problem with tipping the crew as the food and drinks were excellent and our rooms were cleaned every day, but it was a hassle to worry about that on the last night as we are getting ready to leave ship. My friend and I are both under 40 and we were placed with mostly over 40, I know they say it’s the end of the season and they get older people towards the end, but we saw other ships managed by the same company with a younger guest list under 40, which seamed to be more lively. We didn’t get to swim but once on the first day of the cruise, the Hot tub was not hot at all, I tried telling a crew member and he shrugged me off saying it takes time to heat up and walked away… it must take weeks to heat up cause it never got hot. I really wish we had experience Croatia in better terms and in better weather, I’m not sure that I would go back although it’s a beautiful place to visit and we met wonderful people who were also vacationing on the same ship as us. I would like to say that Marko was great with fast communication through emails, but maybe be more discreet about taking complaints from guests so that the crew and ship manager don’t know who complains.

I had the most amazing experience on the sail Croatia tour! It was my first time travelling on my own so was super nervous but our your guide Becca was super helpful answering questions prior to the tour and throughout. She arranged activities on the boat such as yoga and making bracelets so we had something to do while travelling. The group itself was a great mix of people who I've enjoyed getting to know and are hopefully now friends for life. One of the best experiences of my life!

Had an awesome tour! It was exactly as advertised! The ship looked brand new- cabins were comfortable with plenty of storage and bathrooms were large with nice showers! The staff was great and very attentive! We stopped twice a day at wonderful swimming spots- our perfect weather helped with that! Meals were yummy and always plentiful! This itinerary is perfect for giving a snapshot of the beautiful Croatian islands and historic sites! Will definitely return!

5-day Dubrovnik to Split one-way cruise - Classic Plus above-deck, 20-35s Tour

5-day Dubrovnik to Split one-way cruise - Classic Plus above-deck, 20-35s

Great atmosphere, good amount of time at each port. I liked how the ship would stop at a remote to allow us to have a dip in the water or sunbake. Would have liked some more group activities/excursions. The food was very nice. The soups were delicious, home-cooked food and nice variety of food. The rooms were small and the shower was in a small cubicle with the toilet. Not much space to move around, very basic. The air conditioner would turn off and on during the night. So I was sweating and then go freezing cold. Filtered water was provided for free. Happy hour drinks were great. The crew on-board provided great hospitality. Billy was energetic and very approachable. At the end of the day, it depends who you're sailing with and who you meet on the boat which will give you a great experience.

Croatia Cruise Southern Dalmatia - from Split Tour

Croatia Cruise Southern Dalmatia - from Split

A+ was full so we had to downgrade to an A level ship. At first, looking at the size comparison of the two ships, I was disappointed at the size of our ship. However, I quickly learned to enjoy the ship. Ther is only a max of 20 travelers on board, so by the end of the cruise you knew everyone and were exchanging contact information. Also, because of the size, the crew gets to personally know you and your preferences. Breakfast was your basic continental but lunch was tasty and plentiful. The pricing for drinks were normal not inflated. The only downside were bunk beds and no air conditioner and the rooms were very small. However, you don't spend much time in your rooms. Despite that I would still book again. One warning, when you get into port at night, you tie up next to other boats and they can be rather noisy. If you are our age ..in our 60's... if you are young you may enjoy the loud music from other boats or your boat may be a noisy boat. Inquire on ages of passengers before booking.

Med Sailing in Croatia (from Split to Dubrovnik)

Med Sailing Holidays exceeded all expectations! The itinerary was so well thought out and took us to many special places. The skipper of our boat was very professional and his knowledge of sailing and the Adriatic sea was brilliant. The hostess we had made fabulous meals for us which meant we didn't have to lift a finger. This company made our trip so memorable and we will be booking another trip very soon. Cant recommend Med Sailing Holidays enough!

Croatia sailing cruises

Dubrovnik harbour in the summer

With dozens of islands scattered off the Dalmatian Coast, Croatia was simply made for sailing

It’s no mystery why Croatia has become the darling of Europe , what with its perfect blend of Old-World charm and youthful exuberance. After all, this is the place where tumbledown villages still make wine by hand, ancient royal palaces become breezy open-air piazzas, and a pulsing underground night scene means you can shout ‘zivjeli’ till sunrise. It just so happens that your best ticket to see all of this is also at the prow of a boat, hopping from island to island and closing out the day with drinks by the Adriatic.

The best time to visit Croatia depends on your preferences and what you want to do while you are there. If you want to spend time on the beach and enjoy warm weather, the best time to visit is from June to September, when temperatures are typically in the mid-70s to mid-80s Fahrenheit (24-30 degrees Celsius), and the weather is generally stable, with little chance of storms. If you prefer cooler weather and fewer crowds, the shoulder seasons of April, May, and October may be a good time for sailing in Croatia , but the winds can be strong in the spring and fall, making sailing more challenging.

It is possible to have an enjoyable sailing trip in Croatia in five days, but it will depend on your plans and what you want to see and do. Croatia has a long coastline and numerous islands, so there are many options for sailing trips. If you only have five days, you should focus on a specific region or area rather than trying to cover too much ground. Overall, a 5-day sailing trip in Croatia can be a great way to explore some of the country’s most beautiful coastal regions and experience the charm of the Croatian islands.

Med Sailing Holidays Offers Island Hopping Trips Through the Waters of Croatia

Med Sailing Holidays offers a convenient way for everyone from couples to groups to see the splendour of the Mediterranean or Caribbean on sailing holidays in Croatia . With almost 2, 000km of coastline on the turquoise Adriatic, Croatia boasts some of Europe’s cleanest shores with its photogenic beaches dotted by ancient cities. With over a thousand islands, it is ideal for island hopping and exploration with our talented crew at the helm.

Tips for Getting More Value Out of Your Sailing Vacation in Croatia

Everyone wants to get the most value for money, and we offer different options to suit your budget. You can charter one of our luxury yachts for a private holiday or charter a cabin on one of our public sailings for a fraction of the cost. Here are a few more tips to help you get ready for your Croatian sailing holiday:

Our talented crew will take care of your breakfasts and lunches with an unparalleled menu catering to vegans, vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. For dinners, you are on your own to explore the fantastic and often inexpensive restaurants and cafes in the cities and towns that we reach at the end of the day.

If you have the time to spare, make sure to reach Croatia a day or two before the yacht sets sail. Both Split and Dubrovnik are beautiful cities with many attractions to explore and experience, make sure you make it to the marina with plenty of time to spare. Arriving a day or two early usually means a better airport experience, too as Saturdays are usually the busiest days at the airports in Croatia.

People tend to over pack for their sailing holiday, but we always recommend packing light. Remember your swimwear, something to wear when you go out for the evening and a warm jacket in case. We provide bed linens and towels, but you may bring your own beach towels. Don’t forget rock shoes if you plan on doing a little exploring.

What Sets Med Sailing Holidays Apart Regarding a Crewed Yacht Charter in Croatia

We offer a higher level of service and cater to a wider range of guests. A few of the things that sets us apart include:

There are no hidden fees or ‘departure taxes’ when you come on board. When we say our packages are transparent and inclusive, we mean it.

Our boats come with Wi-Fi at no extra charge. In Croatia, we provide 4G with unlimited data.

We provide your breakfasts and lunches, but you are also free to bring food and drink. Galley space is limited, so plan accordingly.

Things to Do on Your Bareboat Charter in Croatia

If you know how to handle a sailing yacht and want to experience the beauty of the Dalmatian coast in seclusion, try bareboat sailing in Croatia. Unlike our other private charters, the bareboat option comes without a crew and gives you the freedom to explore some of Croatia’s 1, 000 islands. To get the most out of your bareboat charter, it is best to plan to make sure the activities you and your group are interested in are available. This option is perfect for couples or small groups looking for adventure. Here are a few of our favourite places along the Dalmatian Coast to give you an idea of where to steer the yacht:

Dubrovnik is one of the two cities our Croatian charters depart from, and it more than earned the title of ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’. A haven for lovers of history, it has played an important maritime role for millennia and even rivalled the Republic of Venice for control of trade in the Adriatic. Don’t forget to take many pictures of the imposing Lovrijenac fortress.

Situated about halfway between Dubrovnik and Split, Vis is always a popular island to visit with family-friendly beaches and numerous activities and excursions to try for the adventurous type.

Split is Croatia’s second largest city and home to plenty of outdoor activities including white water rafting and one of the most beautiful beaches in the country.

Why Trust Med Sailing Holidays Regarding Family Sailing Holidays in Croatia

Many of our guests choose to bring the whole family on one of our yacht holidays in Croatia, often choosing a private charter to have the boat to themselves. The turquoise waters of the Dalmatian Coast offer something for everyone, from those who want to sit back and relax, to those who crave adventure in the water, or even history buffs more interested in the beautiful ancient cities that dot the coast. With a private charter, you can design a custom itinerary based on where your family wants to go and what they want to do. There is no better way to create memories that will last a lifetime. If you are interested in learning more about our Croatia sailing holidays package, or any of the other beautiful locations we visit, contact us today.

SAILING IN CROATIA - INCLUSIONS

When you book a sailing holiday in Croatia, you want to make sure you get the most value for your money. It’s also important that you’re aware of the costs before you book your trip, so you don’t have any surprises after it’s too late.

When you are looking at your options for a sailing holiday in Croatia, you will first need to establish if you are booking a private yacht charter for your friends and family, or are you going to book a cabin charter for a fraction of the price.

We offer two options, the first being a fully crewed, all inclusive option which covers everything your trip needs. The second option allows you to just book a 'Boat and Captain' option and you can manage your expenses yourself. This option is only available on selected dates.

Whichever option you opt for, you will need to consider all the running costs, which you can’t avoid, such as your captain, berthing, cleaning, fuel, provisions and so on. If you haven’t factored these into your costs, you might be in for a nasty surprise.

Whether you book our private charter or cabin charter option, you will see that we don’t leave anything out in the extensive list of inclusions we offer . This means that at first glance our fully crewed sailing holidays are more expensive than the other operators, however upon closer inspection you will find that our total package price will come in costing you less and giving you more value.

BOAT & CAPTAIN ONLY

When you book a sailing holiday in Croatia, sometimes you want to keep an eye on the expenses yourself, so we're offering you the opportunity to manage your own trip.

Boat: Oceanis 48

Captain and captain meal allowance

Cleaning fee

The price does not include:

Tourist taxes

Early check in

Refundable security deposit €2,500

With the Boat & Captain option you are responsible for all operating costs and meal preparation.

We could not have asked for a better captain for our group, and a better human being! Romano is not only a very competent and talented sailor, but he also knows so many great locations for swimming or hiking or just enjoying the beauty of the Croatian coastline. He was very good at listening to what our interests were, and then adding his own suggestions for things that would be fun to see or do. This included visits to Hvar, cliff jumping, a gorgeous waterside bar/restaurant, great places for dinner and many beautiful coves for swimming. By the end of the week, Romano was really just part of our family, easy going, available, fun, and funny. We look forward to seeing him again soon either on our home turf, or his home waters.

Blake Johnson

We LOVED our experience with Romano. As a local, he is so knowledgeable about the islands, sailing, boats, hikes, runs, restaurants, swimming spots and more. Within just a few hours, he felt like family. He listened to our requests and made our dream trip come true! I highly highly recommend booking with him. He's easy-going, funny & fun, speaks great English, friendly, and he wants to help the people on his boats learn about the history and culture of Croatia. I cannot imagine what our trip would have been like if we had booked a different captain/skipper.

Florian Schiffer

If you're looking for a sailing trip which fulfills all your wishes - this is the right address! Marko and i went for sailing with different crew members twice. I can tell you both trips were amazing where we visited beautiful hidden spots. And it makes such a huge difference in Croatia to have a skipper who knows the inhabitants, the owners of the good restaurants and respects the culture. Marko is one of the highest professional skippers I've ever met, who is also totally flexible and all the time a right hand to you. He is not just a skipper - now i call him a friend!

Eku Sunshine

We just had an amazing sailing week and created lovely memories for a lifetime. Our perfect skipper Romano was everything you could ask for- attentive, very skilled, calm, funny and super planner. Cruising and sailing at 3 islands, tasting wine at local farm, having super dinners every evening and moonlight dances. What more could you ask for🙂 Romano organized all dinners, island tours. Just name it and he delivers it. Our 1st sailing experience was unforgettable and we will definitely return. If you book a sailing tour, please book Romano as your skipper.

Journey Martinson

Romano was the absolute BEST skipper. He's welcoming, knowledgable, friendly, and very good at his job. Our crew felt so safe with him in charge during the duration of our charter, and since he grew up in Croatia, he has tons of knowledge and history to share about all the locations we sailed to. Additionally, he gave great recommendations on things to do and places to visit during our trip. We got to explore some really awesome spots that we wouldn't have known about if it weren't for him. I'm definitely going back to Croatia and I am definitely requesting Romano again.

Marko is the best!!!! Our two trips with Marko were absolutely fantastic. Not only is Marko a really nice person , he is also a great skipper and knows the water like no other. He always found nice little secluded bays for us when we wanted to be alone, but also found nice little villages when we wanted to have diner somewhere. Marko likes sailing. He will give you the wheel and train you , but always with safety in mind. My family and I like Marko, and he I will always be my skipper in Croatia.

Joško Lukin

I am bit late with this but will feel guilty if did not write about our sailing experience with Romano! To make it clear, it is rather hard to impress guest that lives on Dalmatian island but Romano exceeded all expectations! Including dolphins coming to our boat.... Hope to meet again and soon with strong recommendations to all that want to have unforgettable saiiling experiences. Just relax and let Romano take care of all!

Domenic Mantella

Our group had an absolutely wonderful experience with our one week catamaran cruise. Our crew was unbelievably accomodating and helpful. Romano & Anna Maria made sure that we were enjoying ourselves & also provided helpful insight & suggestions regarding our locale. We had such a wonderful experience and would absolutely work with Top Croatia Sailing, as well with Romano & Anna Maria. We are definitely recommending this cruise to our friends & will request the same team again.

Darío Stern

Awesome experience! Romano, our captain, was a very proficient skipper. He also had the ability to understand what we wanted and create an itinerary to achieve our expectations. Hidden spots, cozy towns and magical places were part of the trip. His timing to show up and dissapear was also an advantage. Last but not least Romano was fun and friendly to all of us. If you plan to navigate the Adriatic you should contact this agency. We will never forget our vacation in Croatia. Once again thank you Captain!

Francisco Trindade

Romano and Marko were the skippers from two of our boats in our recent Split trip and the experience could not have been better! Romano catered for our asks and creates an itinerary that was amazing, showing us places off the beaten track that made our trip unique. It was the best trip i had yet and i know that others in my group have the same view.

Romano - the jewel of the Adriatic Sea! He filled our trip with unforgettable moments! Very cultured, attentive, unique, sincere, unobtrusive, relaxed, and ready to help, confident in his work, always smiling! We are very happy that we met a person who truly touched our hearts with his kindness and that he carefully planned beautiful activities and created memorable moments for us! Thanks a lot Romano

Harol Lainez

Romano was a great skipper, super fun and friendly to all his guest. Very knowledgeable and professional. We always had somewhere to go, he provided us with good recommendations around the Dalmatian coast and we’re pleased with all the cool spots he suggested. I would highly recommend him and his team if you are looking for an amazing sailing experience.

Morgan Ranieri

Thanks Marko, Romano and the rest of the crew for a super fun week at sea!

Dominique Pasols

Romano is thee best Skipper! He was super knowledgeable about Croatia so he made our trip extremely memorable! He has a fun personality so it's like he's one of your friends who happens to know EVERYTHING about yachts while at the same time taking his job seriously so you feel completely safe! Would definitely recommend sailing with him!

Yvette Ross

Romano, our skipper, was worth his weight in GOLD. We had an amazing time thanks to him. From taking us to the most beautiful swim spots around the different islands to recommending the best places to eat for the freshest seafood, he played such a huge role in making our adventure so memorable. He is trustworthy, has perfect intuition (he figured out what we liked almost instantly !) and my 2 kids adored him. Hands down the best skipper! Get ready for us next summer, Romano. We will be back!

Miriam Spritzer

Couldn't have asked for a better experience. Romano, Marko and the team were really outstanding. They went out of their way to make sure all of us were enjoying the trip. The itinerary they put together was truly amazing, from the every day life on the boat, to the on land activities. Every suggestion was just perfect. Highly recommend!

Marco is an excellent skipper, very professional, highly skilled and will always go an extra mile to make sure his clients are completely satisfied with all aspects of their sailing experience. We have already been on two memorable sailing adventures with Marco and can't wait for our next one coming up later on this season.

Brooke Smith

Best sailing experience. Romano and his crew were a delight, and his recommendations made our voyage truly special.

Croatia Sailing Trips

Sailing in Croatia transcends the usual definitions of travel.  It is more than just a journey ; it’s an evocative experience that lingers in your heart and soul. Feel the gentle sway of the yacht, reminiscent of a  dance with the ocean waves . Let the tantalizing feel of the sea breeze caress your face, while the scent of saltwater fills your nostrils. As your vessel glides through the waters, feast your eyes on the breathtaking views of pristine islands, each with its own story and charm.

Croatia, with its intricate coastline and  myriad islands , is a sailor’s dream. Each cove and bay promises a new adventure, a new sight to behold. For those craving the pulsating energy and exhilaration of yacht week, Croatia’s azure waters and lively harbors become a backdrop for memories that last a lifetime.

HASSLE-FREE

Completely customizable, trusted by many, expert crew, unbeatable support, things to know.

Wearing trainers can help minimize the chance of stubbing your toe while moving about the boat. It’s also advisable to bring warm clothing and a windbreaker. However, try not to overpack, as excess gear can occupy space and may go unused during the voyage.

For sailing or boating trips, it’s best to pack your belongings in soft, collapsible bags like duffel bags or backpacks. Hard-sided luggage can be cumbersome and difficult to store in the tight spaces often found on boats. Additionally, a waterproof or water-resistant bag can be beneficial to protect your belongings from potential splashes or unexpected rain.

We supply bed linens and one towel for each guest. If you require extra towels, please inform us ahead of time, and we’ll arrange them for you. If you will be unable to pack beach towels, we offer rentals at 5 Eur per towel for the week.

Every yacht chartered adheres to Croatian Maritime regulations. This includes sanctioned safety vests, harnesses, life rafts, VHF radios, horseshoe buoys with lights, distress signals, and fire extinguishers, among other items. Refer to the general equipment list for sailing boats, motorboats, catamarans, mega yachts, and gulets.

The charter fee not only covers the use of the boat but also includes bed linens and kitchenware, as well as one roll of toilet paper and liquid soap per restroom. Extra costs you might encounter include the outboard engine, gennaker, marina parking, marina charges, fuel, and crew (unless stated otherwise on our website). Please refer to the conditions for sailing boats, motorboats, catamarans, mega yachts, and gulets.

Indeed, every yacht and its crew are comprehensively insured against any mishaps.

Parking within ACI Marina Split is limited and cannot be reserved. However, there’s an expansive parking area just above the marina that offers more spots. Additionally, there’s a nearby private parking option close to the marina which you can arrange through us.

We typically tailor routes to the preferences of each group, but we can offer examples of favored itineraries. Our goal is to align the journey with the group’s interests, leading to diverse experiences. We also urge our clients to think outside the box, ensuring their holiday stands out.

Charters typically start and finish on Saturdays. While we can accommodate charters shorter than 7 days, it’s not feasible during the peak season.

Our skippers are skilled, amiable, and professional. Beyond ensuring a safe journey from one port to another, they’ll serve as your guide, unveiling the secrets of our islands and secluded bays. You’re encouraged to specify any preferences about the skipper, such as non-smoking, child-friendly, younger, older, and so forth.

Indeed, you are responsible for supplying the skipper’s meals.

Typical boarding time is after 5 p.m. If you wish to start your journey earlier, we can make the boat available by 1 p.m. with our EARLY CHECK-IN option for an additional 150 EUR. The checkout process begins at 8:30 a.m. You must return to the base by Friday afternoon. If you prefer a specific checkout time in the morning, please coordinate with our office in advance.

What’s the difference between the rooms on the boats?

Standard boats will have sun-decks so you can soak up the sunlight. Premium boats have larger sundecks with a mid-weekly linen service. And as the name suggests - Luxe boats have bigger rooms and a special food menu.

Do the rooms on the boat have air conditioning?

Yep, all bedrooms on the boats have air conditioning. They’re small and fit perfectly into the cabins (and work great for a quick cool down).

Do all rooms on the boats have shared toilets?

All rooms are fitted with an ensuite. The premium boats tend to have bigger bathrooms.

At what time will we be docking back into the last city?

If the weather gods are on our side (which they usually are), we should be docking back up in Split at 3PM.

Can I share the room with my partner or friends?

Yes, mostly. If you’ve booked together with a partner or a friend on a twin-share trip, you’ll be roomed together. If you’re travelling with your friends on a multi-share trip, and have made separate bookings, don’t forget to tell our 24/7 support team that you’re travelling together. The Trip Manager will always try their best to put you in the same room. But please note, this can’t always be guaranteed.

We offer Free Time Add-Ons, which are additional experiences that are not included in the overall price. These add ons are highlighted on the specific trip page. Exceptions may apply where pre booking is required but this will be made known to you in your pre departure information.

A number of meal times are left open for you to explore a region and its foodie offerings in greater detail, so budgeting for your taste in non-catered meals is important.

Travel insurance and visas are also not included in the cost of your trip, and should be booked separately.

Is it better to hire a Cook or a Hostess?

Bareboat yacht charter in Croatia  also provides multitude of options to hire various crew members at skippered charters ( cook and hostess ). Please find below which option suits your holiday style better and what are the assignments they do.

1. Chartering a Hostess

Guests usually book our hostess when they want to have a relaxing and a care-free sailing holiday in Croatia. She can perform various tasks, on board and off board, that you usually have to take care alone when you hire a bareboat sailing charter in Croatia . Our crew is all fluent in English and sometimes also multilingual. Together with our local skipper, they will make sure that your cruising adventure in Croatia is and indulging and a one-of a-kind experience.

Basic assignments of a hostess

  • keeping all areas on yacht clean and tidy
  • handling the provisioning throughout the trip (shopping for supplies, stocking boat lockers before and during your trip)
  • she prepares and serves two light meals daily (breakfast and one simple lunch). Extra meals are option with an additional fee.
  • washes the dishes, cleans the galley and salon

A Tip: We advise to transfer her some APA money (advanced provisioning allowance) so that she can supply your boat before arrival.

2. Hiring a Cook/Chef

The general assignment for cook on board is to prepare 3 meals a day , considering the client's preferences and what kind of food do they want. Usual fee for cook starts at  170€ per day . However, it can vary and mostly depends the boats size and number of the guests aboard.

How much does it cost to hire a hostess?

That depends on the level of the tasks, requests and how many guests are there to cater. Her basic fee is 130€ per day and can go up to 180€ . This fee does not include gratuity nor the meals for the crew; They can join you for meals or allow 30€ pocket money per crew member per day.

Where does a hostess sleep?

The front bow cabins on catamarans are usually occupied with the crew, that is why we recommend to charter sailing yacht with 2 separate crew cabins. Most of the sailing catamarans in Croatia have such a layout. Sometimes, the crew can also sleep in the salon, but it is not something we advise, since everyone needs time to rest, so they can give you their best during the day.

It is also customary to take care of the crew's meals on your sailing trip. Feel free to invite your crew to join you at the dinner, they will be more than happy. If you wish to dine in privacy, they can east separately.

A Tip: When you hire a hostess you already have 2 meals included. That gives you extra time to explore the islands where you can dine in a local restaurant your crew will be happy to recommend. Here you can taste Dalmatian delicacies in fisherma's tavern called "konoba" - a must try!

  • Lastovo  - Discover this remote "island of happiness" and enjoy in a relaxing Dalmatian pulse surround with pure nature.

What is the best time to sail in Croatia?

Best time for sailing in Croatia is definitively in summer months June July and August when the weather is simply glorious and everything is in full swing.

Is it better to charter a sailboat or a catamaran?

It is all up to your expectations and your budget.

In Croatia you can charter almost everything that floats. To rent a sailing boat in Croatia with skipper assures you to discover the most beautiful islands at your own pace and with a flexible route itinerary. It is considered the most genuine and fashionable way of exploring Adriatic coast.

On sailboats you mostly depnd on winds, but sailing yacht will give you more sailing pleasures with minimum fuel consumption. Catamarans are wider, more stable, and extra comfortable. Commodity however, also means higher rental price, larger costs on fuel and marina fees.

When it comes to quality of staying on board, catamarans ensure more privacy and space. Most of the catamarans for chartering in Croatia have cozy flybridge that provides extra places to chill or sunbathe. If you want to move faster and your main concern is not large fuel consumption, simply hire a motor yacht.

If you think green, rent a sailboat

Less consumption means less exhaust into the sea. Especially if you are an active explorer, you will certainly try to stay most of the time under sails. Hiring a sailboat in Croatia is definitively more exciting, fun and authentic holiday experience with an opportunity to gain some sailing knowledge and participate in various activities during your yacht charter week.

Choosing a sailing boat to suit your travelling style and budget

To narrow your choice, you should first estimate how much space do you need and how high can you stretch. Larger the group, bigger the boat, bigger the yacht, larger the cost. When you plan  sailing trip with children , catamaran might be a better choice. If you stay on a budget, a sailing yacht with 2 steering wheels and bathing platform should do. Usually 2 families rent one catamaran to divide the costs. One hull for one family.

How long does a sailing trip last?

Croatia sailing charter runs on weekly basis from Saturday to Saturday. However, in shoulder season (September, May, October, June ) short sailing trips are also possible. To explore Croatia's coastline highlights and visit the most beautiful secluded treasures of the Dalmatian coast, we recommend to book one of our  7 day private sailing cruises .

Which islands are best to visit in Croatia?

Island hopping is one of the most exciting and authentic ways to travel around this hidden Mediterranean jewel. A week-long private Croatia sailing trip  is an exclusive way to explore some of the most remarkable Croatian islands, impressive marine national parks, hidden beaches with crystal clear water, secluded villages and genuine hospitality of the local people, inviting you to taste the topmost island culinary works of art.

Be sure not to miss these gems on your cruising adventure:

  • Hvar - is the "royalty" of Dalmatian coast, reflecting the perfect harmony between the old and the new
  • Unije - tiny isolated island located In  Kvarner , surrounded with crystal clear waters and one lovely village
  • Silba -  the island of love and intact emerald bays located near Zadar
  • Dugi Otok - the cradle of intact natural parks and a yachting heaven. Visit the highest lighthouse of the Croatian coast "Veli rat"
  • Kornati  - the natural beauty of the lunar Kornati national park is simply breathtaking
  • Kaprije -   charming fishing village near Sibenik is the fusion of unmatchable local cuisine and genuine people
  • Šolta -  the impressive blend of lush green landscapes and sustainable local products
  • Brac -  "stone kingdom of Croatia" for leisure seekers and explorers
  • Vis -  the "secret" island of legends, myths and natural wonders located in the middle of Adriatic. Spend one night in old town Komiža
  • Korcula -  Follow  Dubrovnik sailing itinerary and visit the island of travelers, rich cultural heritage and top Wines

Can you swim in Croatia in September?

September  and October are the perfect months for a relaxing sailing cruise in Croatia . The sea temperatures are pleasant for swimming and still above 20 o (70F). With abundance of sun (especially on the islands) the air keeps constant 25 o (77F) during the day almost until late October. Expect lower yacht rental prices, less crowds on city streets and ports, maritime traffic is lower and you can always get a free berth in marina.

What should I bring on a yacht charter?

With plenty of sunny days and mild Med. climate, Croatia is among sunniest European destinations. Summertime on Adriatic is simply glorious. Sun-soaked Dalmatian islands are literally bathing in sunbeams, while the air is dry and the sea warm. If your sailing trip is in summer season, simply bring your summer wardrobe.

It is highly recommended to bring your soft handbag or a duffel bag  or rucksack instead of a plastic suitcase to gain more space in your cabin. Please read about the Sail Croatia Packing List for newbies and  remember to pack light.

8 Things that you don't want to forget:

  •   boarding pass/voucher
  •   sun protection items (sun lotion, sunglasses for UV protection, hat)
  •   bathing suit or a swimsuit
  •   your passport, or personal ID, enough cash, health insurance
  •   swimming towels
  •   your personal items (prescription pills, medicine for allergy...)

Happiness Promise

There are hundreds of thousands of guides and tour operators around the world. Figuring out who to trust is stressful and hard.

That’s why we started 10Adventures Tours, we’re here to make it easy to find a great guide or tour operator. We handpick the best local guides and tour operators for 10Adventures, working to ensure you have great guides and a great trip.

We know it sucks to show up in a different country and find out the tents are junk, the guide incompetent or the route different from what we thought we were getting.

We want to give our users peace of mind that you’ll have a great trip and offer a guarantee that we will work with you to make it right.

How does this work? Well, if you feel that something about your trip didn’t’ meet your expectations, let us know. We will then work to gather the details and figure out where things went wrong. If something indeed wasn’t as described, or went wrong with your trip, and the problem was within the control of either oursleves, the guide or the tour company, we will then work out a refund with you that’s proportional to the scale of the problem.

Obviously the best way to make a great trip is to tell your local guide or tour operator and give them the chance to fix the solution while you are on your trip. Most things can be solved by telling your guide when the issue develops. If that doesn’t solve it, then email us right away. Please don’t wait to voice your concerns until the trip is over, as it’s much harder to solve issues after the fact.

We work hard to make sure you have a great trip. If something isn’t right, please email  [email protected]  and we will get to work right away.

Itinerary for 5-day Sailing Adventure in Croatia Tour

Sail to primosten.

This tour departs from Split and navigates towards another coastal town called Primosten. Its unique geography resembles the island it once was, but it was narrowly attached to mainland Croatia in the 16th century. Primosten is synonymous with relaxation, and it delivers: lay out on the beach, stroll slowly through town, find a nice stone patio in the sun and have a drink, and indulge in some gourmet Croatian dishes. On the way to Primosten, your Skipper will bring you to hidden coves for swimming and snorkelling, if you wish.

Sail to Skradin and Visit Krka National Park

Leaving Primosten in the morning, you will sail into the Luka Canal towards Skradin, one of the oldest settlements in Croatia with a rich cultural heritage. This is where you’ll stop before entering Krka National Park, an enchanting reserve of cascading lakes and waterfalls. Explore the area at your leisure and admire the Franciscan Monastery built on a small island in the middle of Visovac Lake—truly impressive! Head back to Skradin to spend the night in the marina.

Sail to Kornati National Park

Today includes an exceptional excursion to the mostly uninhabited Kornati Islands. Recognized as a National Park, the landscapes here comprise of rugged white cliffs next to the serene vivid blue sea. The archipelago hides innumerable coves to dock near to swim and snorkel. You’ll feel like you’re in paradise! Navigate to the small island of Piskera to anchor for the night.

Sail to Kaprije Island

Keeping on theme with finding peaceful, magnificent islands, today you’ll visit Kaprije Island, named after its agricultural wealth in capers—an ingredient you’ll find many Croatian dishes. You’ll notice a few unique points about this island: cars are prohibited, so it feels very peaceful, and there are only a few cafes and restaurants. Get a taste of what sailing in the Mediterranean used to be like before it exploded in nautical tourism.

Sail to Veli Drvenik Island

Leave early from Kaprije Island to leave time to visit the marvellous blue lagoon on nearby Veli Drvenik Island. It doesn’t look like the typical Mediterranean landscape—you may feel like you’ve sailed to the tropics when you see this white-sand beach and calm turquoise water. Soak up the last moments of this sailing journey before heading back to Split in the late afternoon and disembark for the end of your tour.

Why do I need to pay marina and mooring fees?

Spending a night (or even a day) in a marina is an important part of sailing: not only it gives a safe shelter for your boat, but it also lets you explore the local villages and replenish the supplies. However, it comes with a fee that depends on many factors: the marina’s location, season, and the size of your boat. In some cases, these visits are hard to predict or plan for, so please do not be disappointed with your skipper if you need to dock in the marina in case of bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances – your safety is the most important part of your trip.

How much should I budget for marina and mooring fees?

There are many factors that affect the mooring prices. Every marina has its own pricing policies that are affected mostly by the season and boat size. Below are some examples of the mooring fees (please don’t take them as final costs as they might): Low season: 37 feet boat: 42€ - 90€ per night/per boat 42 feet boat: 48€ - 95€ per night/per boat 45 feet boat: 51€ - 115€ per night/per boat 50 feet boat: 57€ - 135€ per night/per boat High season: 37 feet boat: 45€ - 115€ per night/per boat 42 feet boat: 50€ - 125€ per night/per boat 45 feet boat: 55€ - 150€ per night/per boat 50 feet boat: 61€ - 175€ per night/per boat However, if you are blessed with a combination of beyond perfect weather and good forecasts for an upcoming couple of days, your skipper might make a decision to anchor in a cove for the night which is free of charge!

I worked three summers as a tour guide on these very Croatia sailing tours I’ll be describing to you, and during that time, I got to know the in’s and out’s of all the different companies and different tours. In 2022 I became a partner in my very own Croatia sailing company for young professionals called Fjaka Sail (more on that later) and helped run our first tours in 2023.

I have come to know what the selling points of each company are, what makes each one different, which tours are better for what ages, and what kinds of people tend to book a certain tour due boat size, party level, and more.

Below I have outlined all that I know about each Croatia sailing company and what kind of person it may be more geared towards. I’m hoping you can take all this info to make the perfect decision on the right one for you! If you need any help planning, feel free to reach out to me by email or DM me on Instagram.

Disclaimer: All this info is my personal opinion from working 5+ seasons of sail Croatia on the Adriatic. They may not be correct or agreeable, but I hope my experience can be used to help you choose the best Croatia sailing tour week for your needs. This post also contains affiliate links.

What to Know Before Booking Croatia Sailing Tours

First of all, know what to bring! Here’s my sailing trip packing list , and everything else you need to know is below.

Sailing Croatia Tour Boats

Before I start, I want to give a quick description of what kinds of boats you’ll be looking at for your sail week Croatia. The boats come in a few different classes and styles that you will want to know before you go! Links to companies are below.

Renting Your Own Boat

If this all seems too complicated to you and you already have a group, you might want to consider renting your own boat and doing your own tour. This is totally possible. I recommend using a site like Sailo to rent your own boat . You can view boats, where they are located, prices… etc. It’s kind of like an Airbnb for boats.

Floatilla Style Croatia Tours/Boats

Some tours run in a floatilla style, meaning that there will be 5+ (usually even more, up to 20+) smaller boats of 8-10 people all sailing together. Each small boat will have a skipper and the option to have a hostess. These boats don’t specifically have a guide, but workers who help to run the whole floatilla smoothly.

Bigger Sail Croatia Boats – B/A/A+

Companies with bigger boats run as one complete tour by themself. Bigger boats will hold around 25-40 people. These boats generally have their own Croatian sailing crew (captain, chef, bartender/server, sailor(s), etc) and may have a tour guide responsible specifically for the well-being of the guests. Bigger boats come in three categories:

B Class boats – These are wooden boats with shared facilities and usually no air conditioning. They are, of course, quite a lot cheaper. Cabins will have two bunk beds each. These boats are usually smaller (18-25 people) and are quite the authentic sailing experience!

A Class boats –  A-class boats have ensuite toilets in each cabin and sometimes communal air conditioning in the hallway or saloon/eating room. Beds are usually bunk with two in each room. There’s a large range of A-class boats – some much nicer than others – but will all have this basic ensuite structure.

A+ Class boats – A+ boats are the luxury of the seas and are the fancy white boats you will see on the Adriatic that hold 35+ people. A+ boats have air conditioning in each room, two (not bunk) beds in a spacious cabin, a safe in each room, and LOTS of space to chill – including a big upper/lower deck, good speakers, and hot breakfast.

Smaller Private Yachts

Some Croatia sailing tour companies that are more family/all-ages oriented will have one smaller 8-10 person boat available for Croatia yacht charter hire for the week. These will come with a skipper and possibly a hostess.

Katarina Lines

Because all boats are privately owned and operated, most companies use an agency to obtain the boats they work with. The agency that operates most of Croatia is called Katarina Line.

You will see these logos all over the place, and you can actually book tours with KL themselves, as they have some sail Croatia tours that are not affiliated with a specific company and also can help find you what company works best for your needs.

Croatia Sailing Tours Routes/Duration

You will find that most of the Croatia sailing tours are one week, from Saturday morning to Saturday morning. The brochures may say 8 days because of the first and last Saturday. Some run Wed-Wed or Thurs-Thurs, and are usually quieter.

Sail Croatia weeks will mostly be one-way or round-trip between Split and Dubrovnik. If you fly into one of the airports, it’s easy to get a ferry/bus transfer to the other city if need be.

On bigger, more highly powered boats (not floatillas) you will either sail Split-Split, Dubrovnik-Dubrovnik, Split-Dubrovnik, or Dubrovnik-Split. Floatillas will generally not make it all the way between Split and Dubrovnik because they’re smaller boats and can’t move as fast.

Croatia Sailing Destinations:

When looking at routes, make sure you pick places you like most (or just follow my recommendations!). To read a bit more about different destinations, see my guides below:

Split – Day Trips from Split – Vis Island – Hvar Island – Makarska – Korcula Island – Dubrovnik – Day Trips from Dubrovnik – ALL OF CROATIA – 20 Best Festivals in Croatia

Croatia Sailing Tours Added Costs, Currency, and Optional Activities

When you go on a Croatia sailing trip, you must be prepared for extra costs . Most routes will include breakfast and lunch, but not dinner (except floatillas, which do not include either). There are usually two optional dinners onboard the boats during the week which you can purchase if you wish.

Drinks and dinners on the boats will go on a tab system you can pay at the end of the week. Drinks and food outside the boat will usually be paid for in cash in euros, which is the official currency since 2023 (it used to be Croatian Kuna). Any adventure tours (like zip lining ) or activities will cost extra as well.

So What is the best Sail Croatia Company?

This depends on your age, but here is a quick breakdown:

Best Sail Croatia company for young people (18-22+): Topdeck/Contiki

Best Sail Croatia company for Young Professionals (22-40ish): Fjaka Sail/Koda Sail

Best Sail Croatia company for All Ages/Families: G Adventures/Intrepid Travel

Best Sail Croatia company for an Older Crowd : Kompas/Peregrine Adventures

Croatia Sailing Tours for Young People and Young Professionals – Tours for Youth + Mature

So if you didn’t already know, sail Croatia is a great party destination . Many people come to Croatia to enjoy the scenery a little bit and sip on cocktails, take fancy shots, dance on bars, and party quite a lot .

This isn’t to say that you can’t come on a Croatia sailing holiday and have a mellow, chilled week relaxing in the sun, but just be warned that there will be quite a lot of debauchery going on around you. It is actually part of tour guides’ jobs on these boats to take you to at least one (or 4) bars every night. It’s up to you whether or not you wish to take part.

What Do I Need to Know Before Booking Party Croatia Sailing Tours for Young People?

Bell rings:.

On each boat, if you ring ‘the bell’ (every boat has one), you buy a round of shots for the entire boat. Yes, everyone on it. Bell rings are like a Croatian right of passage; they’re a ceremonial symbol of Adriatic party. As soon you ring the bell, the bartender will compile a tray of shots with the amount of people on the boat, and put it on your tab which you pay at the end of the week. Dangerous.

Nights Out:

There’s always a good mix of bigger and smaller nights out. Save up for nights out in Hvar, Dubrovnik, Makarska, and Korcula. At the rest of the ports, you can go crazy at one or two small bars or chill out and stargaze on the boat. Tour guides should always give you a nice alternative to a party night.

Nationalities:

On the bigger boat Croatia sailing tours (Topdeck, Busabout, Contiki, Sail Croatia), you will find that there are a lot of Australians (and Kiwis) around. You will find Americans, Scandinavians, and more Europeans on floatilla tours like The Yacht Week and Medsailors. I have no idea why this is, but that’s how it turned out.

Some companies tend to end up as bigger parties than others, and I will go through each one and their general stereotype/clientele below.

Fjaka Sail Croatia Sailing tours

MY OWN CROATIA SAILING TOUR COMPANY: FJAKA SAIL

I’ve been waiting to announce this news: myself, another tour guide who has been working Croatia sailing tours for 10 years, and my partner started our very own Croatia sailing company called Fjaka Sail. We ran our first 3 amazingly successful tours in 2023 and have 4 weeks available in 2024.

After working for big companies for so long, we have always known that we could do better running the show ourselves and not answering to a main office in another city or a sales team who have never even been to Croatia. Fjaka Sail is a small company run by passionate travelers who KNOW Croatia and can’t wait to tailor the experience to each and every person.

Clientele/Age Range : Fjaka Sail is targeted at young professionals and young at heart. This means travelers who are a bit older but still know how to have a good time – you can be a more mature 23 or a young and fun 45. As far as Nationalities, we get a big mix and our doors are open to everyone. We are after more of a mindset than an age or nationality, but we have had Americans, Aussies, Kiwis, Brits, South Africans, and more.

Our Fjaka Sailing Guide: Andre knows the language, the land, and EVERYONE there is to know in our destinations – the families with amazing restaurants, the coolest bars, and hidden gems. There’s a reason he has the most returning passengers out of any guide I know.

Fjaka Sail Boats : We have what I fully believe to be the best boat for our age group: The President. The president is an A+++ white boat with a rooftop jacuzzi, spacious rooms, A/C, hot breakfast, two chefs, four floors, amazing crew, and more. Trust me, you won’t want to be on board ANY other boat this summer.

Party Level : We will always have options for whatever each person wants to do, whether that be a huge night out or go stargazing. We know that a young professional crowd is a bit more mature, so we visit chic cocktail bars on the Riva and hidden gems, as well as some usual local party bars and, of course, a club or two – because we believe in balance.

Fjaka Sail routes : We have tailored our routes to include EVERYTHING cool and remove anything annoying about routes we worked in the past for big companies. You won’t miss out on anything important on a Fjaka Sailing tour, and we have some extra special things organized that NO other tours do.

Fjaka Sail Price: We are keeping our prices much lower as the industry prices continue to soar. We pride ourselves on privicing affordable luxury for young professionals! Our tours start at €1950 for a bed which gets even cheaper when we run discounts. Follow us on Instagram to keep up to date!

Use my code KIMMIE10 for a 10% discount on our sailing weeks for this summer, or subscribe below to see if we have any bigger discounts running at the moment.

Croatia Sailing Companies: Koda Sail

Koda Sail is a more intimate and detail-oriented company geared toward the more mature partier and the young professional (and they also run tours in the Maldives, Turkey, Greece, and more now). Koda Sail only runs premiere A+ style luxurious boats, but is still quite affordable for young people. Koda Sail stands for the fact that sometimes young people need a bit of luxury, too, but can also have a bit of fun.

Clientele: Koda Sail was founded by an Aussie guy named Chris, who is a total legend! A lot of the clientele would be similarly Aussie/Kiwi but varied.

Boats: Koda Sail only has A+ style, ensuite, air-conditioned boats. See A+ category boat descriptions above.

Guides: Koda Sail has an experienced guide who is a bit older but still knows how to have a good time. Chris, the owner, runs some of the tours himself I believe.

Party Level: The option to party is always there on Koda Sail (as with any Croatia sailing tour). Koda Sail has a better balance of big and small nights with some great options for nights out and recovery days in between.

Age Range: Koda sail passengers are generally mid-twenties to late-ish thirties, but if you are of the young professional category/mindset you will be just fine.

Routes: During the summer, Koda Sail has three different routes, the S-S, S-D, and D-S. There’s only one tour per week so the route depends on the date. All routes include great places.

Koda Sail Tours

Recommended Tour: All the routes are great but I recommend the Split to Split Luxury A+ Koda Sail Cruise :

makarska riviera croatia beautiful mountains beaches croatia adventure water sports

Croatia Sailing Companies: Travel Talk

Travel Talk is a tour company with bus tours throughout Europe, and Croatia sailing tours are just a small part of their product. They have two boats that switch between Split to Dubrovnik and Dubrovnik to Split routes, and are historically one of the cheapest  Croatia sailing tours – even with ensuite facilities.

Clientele: Travel Talks clientele is also largely Aussie, with a bit of variety thrown in here and there, and do love a good party.

Boats: Travel Talk have two smaller wooden boats (about 20 capacity) with ensuite facilities (A class). One of them, Lav, is an actual pirate ship and is awesome to see sailing! But be warned, they’re by far not the nicest A class boats, but they are fine (especially for the price!).

Guides: The guides on Travel Talk are usually super fun Aussies who are outgoing and helpful but know how to have a good time. I’ve loved the travel talk guides every year.

Party Level: These will be a high party level tour, with options to go out each night (or drink in the day! :P)

Age Range: Travel Talk caps its age at 50-something. Most people are in the young category but some boats have a larger range.

Tours: Just choose your direction:

Croatia sailing companies: contiki.

Contiki is a global tour company that focuses on bus tours all over the world. They have a couple of Croatia sailing tours on different types of boats. Contiki is rather well-known for being a party tour company; I think they are trying to rid themselves of that stereotype but Contiki passengers usually do love a party.

Clientele : Contiki passengers are usually Aussie. However, as their brand grows, their clientele is also. Expect Kiwis, South Africans, Americans, Canadians, and every so often a few people of Asian descent – rarely European.

Boats: Contiki has a few types of boats. They have some premium A+ boat tours and also a few A category ones which differ in price quite a lot. Two dinners are also included on these tours, which is great and differentiates them from most other tours.

Guides: There are a few Contiki Croatia sail guides who stay in Croatia all summer, but a lot of the guides are normally European bus tour guides who come down and guide sails for a few weeks a summer.

Party Level: There will generally be a lot of partying on Contiki Tours.

Age Range: Contiki tours are 18-35 ages – younger than most.

Routes: The Contiki round trip routes spend two nights in Dubrovnik , giving you more time to see the bigger cities but less time in the smaller ones. They only operate Split-Split routes like this. I’m not a fan.

They have some luxe and some cheaper boats available. I have linked their luxe option and their cheaper option below. But I will say they are pricey for what they are and Fjaka Sail’s deals are far better for what you get 🙂

Croatia Sailing Companies: Topdeck

Ah, Topdeck. I worked here for three summers. I’m going to keep my opinions of the company to myself and try not to be biased in my review, but I do know this company the best.

Topdeck is a global, corporate tour company that does tours in six continents. Croatia sailing tours used to be a pretty big part of their European product, but now they only have a few boats running each summer.

Clientele: Topdeck is another one of those companies that gets around well with Aussie word of mouth. Most passengers are Aussie and Kiwi, with a few Canadians and maybe a South African or American once in a while – becoming more diverse over time.

Boats: Topdeck has A and A+ boats. They change each summer but I recommend the A+ ones if possible. I recommend Dalvin and Toma over Moja Maja.

Guides: Topdeck Croatia sail guides are usually absolute legends. Pretty much all Topdeck guides during my time were knowledgable, passionate, kind, and loved a good party.

Party Level: There is a lot of partying on Topdeck sails, which of course depends a lot on the group. There’s also a lot of culture included as well, as guides are required to show you around or do an activity in each town but also take you out each night.

Age Range : Topdeck is 18-39’s.

Routes : All the routes are quite good these days. One-way routes are usually easier on the travel schedule, but their Split-Split and Dubrovnik-Dubrovnik routes are great too. Choose the boat that looks best and go with it!

Topdeck Croatia Sailing Tours

For 2024, I’m not sure what will be available, but again I recommend the boats Dalvin, Meridijan, and Toma if they’re there.

Sunset from Pomena, Mljet Island Croatia

Go Croatia Sail

This company has grown exponentially in the last few years and has almost even overtaken some of the larger companies above in terms of volume. They have flotilla-style boats as well as larger boats these days. They are one of the more affordable Croatia sailing tours on the market for younger people 20-35 (but more like 20-24).

This is the only company I know of that does 4-day and 5-day Croatia sailing tours. If you are low on time, check out some of their tours from Split to Dubrovnik in 4-5 days.

Croatia Sailing Companies: Sail Croatia (Party Tours AND Other Tours)

Sail Croatia is actually a massive company that runs sailing tours for many different clienteles, both old and young. They are known in the young person sector as the main party tour in Croatia.

Check their website for all they offer, but the majority of their product are tours for young people. They also do have some of the nicest and biggest boats for older crowds up to 80+, however.

Clientele: Sail Croatia’s clientele on their ‘Navigator’ tours are mostly young Aussies looking for a good party. They are known for this. But other then ‘ Navigator ” tours, they also have ‘Explorer,’ ‘Elegance,’ ‘Cycle,’ and ‘Hike’ tours for all types of people.

Boats : Sail Croatia has all classes of boats, but the party cruises will usually be on B or A-class boats, with the possibility to book an A+ for young professionals (explorer tours) or older guests (elegance tours).

Guides: Sail Croatia is one of the only companies that employ Croatian tour guides for their trips. I think they have a couple Aussie guides, but they’re mostly Croatian. I find that this is actually not favorable because the cultural barrier is quite large, and having an English speaking tour guide to form the liaison between the Croatian crew and Aussie/English speaking passengers is better… especially one who goes out with the groups and understands the culture.

Party Level: These will be lots of (often messy) partying stereotypically on Navigator tours, but oftentimes it’s just good fun. On Explorer, Elegance, and other tours it will be less.

Age Range: Navigator Party cruises are for under 35’s. Explorer Cruises are nicer boats for younger professionals 25-50. Elegance are for 35+, and Cycle and Hiking Tours are for all ages.

Sail Croatia Tours

If you are young, you will want to book a Navigator Tour (cheaper, lesser quality boats, fun party) or an Explorer Tour (more expensive, nicer boat, more relaxing/sightseeing)

dubrovnik walk the walls

Croatia Sailing Companies: Stoke Travel

Stoke Travel started running Croatia sailing tours in the last few years. Stoke is most well-known for being the party tour company of Europe (even more so than the rest – it’s part of their branding), and I am sure this will correlate to their Croatia tours too. One of their selling points is also selling unlimited beer and sangria for a small price.

Clientele/Guides: Clientele are mostly Aussie, as are guides, and it is sure to be a loose and fun time with like-minded young people.

Boats: I think Stoke’s boats are either B or A… probably B. Given that they have lots of ‘roughing it’ camping party tours I think they will be the same in Croatia. Fun and very shared.

Party Level: With unlimited beer + sangria onboard, you bet it’s HIGH.

Age Range: Stoke is for all ages who like to party. But people are mostly younger.

Price: If you get in early, S toke has some of the cheapest Croatia Sailing tours on the market. Check their deals below!

Floatilla-Style Croatia Sailing Tours

There is an increasing number of floatilla-style tours in Croatia each summer – the ones that sail with lots of smaller boats together. They are very different yet just as fun as doing Sail Croatia on bigger boats!

Floatillas do not travel as far (they either stay around Split or Dubrovnik or go one-way) and may have day and night stops. See the beginning of this article for more logistical information on how floatillas work. Here are a few main floatilla companies you can consider.

The Yacht Week

The Yacht Week is the Croatia sailing company that most Americans know about. The Yacht Week is glamorous and is known for its music, dj’s, and ‘exclusive parties.’ The Yacht Week definitely has a different vibe than a lot of tours, but a lot of the destinations and parties are still the same. They also have lots of tours centered around Ultra Europe music festival and Ultra Week in Croatia.

Yacht Week Clientele: The Yacht Week gets most American, Scandinavian/European, and South American clientele. The 8-10 person boats will be full of groups of friends from different places.

Party Level / Age Range: The Yacht Week is a massive party, but tends to be a more expensive one. Yacht week passengers always seem to buy tables at the fancy clubs and spend more money on what seems like a businessperson’s week off to have fun.

sailing trip croatia

Med Sailors

Med Sailors is another of the biggest floatilla companies that sail Croatia – boats are about 8-10 people. They run great tours with great skippers who will also love to take guests out to the bars at night (always wearing their yellow and blue Med Sailors shirts – you can’t miss them!) I recommend doing one of their Split-Dubrovnik or Dubrovnik-Split tours so you can see more.

Clientele/Party Level/ Age Range: Med Sailors also has a varied clientele of more English/Irish/Americans than many companies. The option to party is also always available, and people are usually young (18-35) but more mature.

MedSailors is a VERY popular option for those who want a smaller boat sailing in a flotilla that is still built for young people. It’s also generally more affordable than the Yacht Week. Medsailors tend to visit more offbeat destinations but still gets the good parties in.

Sail Croatia Tours for All Ages, the Older Passenger, or Families

Phew! Now that we have gotten through the Croatia sailing tours for young people, it may seem it is not possible to visit this country without a party, but that is far from true! There are loads of Croatia sailing tours that cater to different audiences- older people, families, bicyclers, even tennis players and vegans! I’m telling you – there’s something for everyone.

Remember to read above for descriptions of boats and facilities!

Croatia Sailing Companies: G Adventures

G Adventures is an extremely reputable tour company that runs tours all over the whole world. It’s no surprise that their Croatia product will be amazing as well. Their tours are for smaller groups (max 8 on smaller yachts) and run from April all the way until October.

Demographics: G Adventures tours are for 12-70-year-olds. Younger people may book out the boats for a private tour, but they’re also great for families or friends of any age. Their tours are one-way from Spit to Dubrovnik or vice versaa.

Sail Croatia Companies: Intrepid Travel + Peregrine Dalmatia Unique Tours

Intrepid is yet another world-renowned travel company (operating in all 7 continents, I believe!) who also run both small group tours and larger boat tours in Croatia. They run larger boat tours with Peregrine Adventures, another popular all-ages travel company.

The small-boat groups will be about 8-10 people as a single tour, and will stop at all sorts of islands on the way across the Adriatic. The larger boat tours will be similar in nature to all others I have described with groups of 30+.

Routes: Intrepid has come out with some incredible sailing tours in recent years. They have all the classic routes between Split and Dubrovnik (on both large and small boats) but have now have some of the the most unique routes of all these Croatia sailing tours – some tours sailing north of Split and even to Venice !

Demographics: Intrepid is listed as 15 to 99 year olds, so would be perfect for older families or groups of friends of any age who like to be a bit more low-key.

Smaller Boat Tours (Max 8 pax)

Split to Dubrovnik Sailing Tour with Intrepid Travel  OR Dubrovnik to Split Sailing Tour with Intrepid Travel

Larger Boat Tours (Max 31 pax) Run by Peregrine Dalmatia

For 1 standard week, I recommend their Dubrovnik to Split route, but Peregrine offers more unique locations than other Croatia sailing trips. To sail NORTH from Split to Zadar , Kornati, and a day trip to Plitvice Lakes National Park, check out their Central Coast Tour from Split.

They also have a VERY unique 15-day Dubrovnik to Venice tour (with partial bus transfer) with stops in Mostar and Northern Croatia destinations such as Krk, Opatija, and Rab (which no other sails visit).

dubrovnik from above croatia

Croatia Sailing Companies: Kompas

Kompas is one of the Adriatic’s premiere luxury travel companies. Perfect for families or people of any age, Kompas Tours has a minimum of 5-8 years of age and a maximum of 80. These tours will be on the nicest A+ category ships, and your every need will be catered to!

Kompas has more unique routes, and has tours going as far north as Zadar. Many tours will have daytime and nighttime stops to cover more ground in the same amount of time – 8 days. These tours move FAST and see A LOT.

Many boats will have small pools/jacuzzis onboard and premium space to relax on lounge chairs or eat meals in style. These are the ridiculously nice boats that other people just gape at. You can see all information about the boat before you book a tour!

Here are my most recommended Kompas Croatia sailing tours, the Split to Split North Route with Krka and Kornati National Parks, and the regular Split to Dubrovnik Sail:

Croatia Sailing Companies: My Croatia Cruise

My Croatia Cruise offers Croatia Cruise tours you can book a spot on, OR charter of your own small cruise ship. Whether you’d like to jump on a tour with other passengers with a set route from Dubrovnik, Split, or Opatija, or charter your own boat and crew, this company is a great option.

Unique Croatia Sailing Tours: Different Themes

Here are some Croatia sailing trips with a certain focus, like hiking, tennis, or vegan food.

Croatia Bike Tours: Art of Bicycle Trips

Art of Bicycle Trips Croatia sailing bike tour

Art of Bicycle Trips is a leading bike tour operator running bike tours (and also hiking, kayaking, and more) in over a dozen destinations across three continents. All their bike tours have a special focus on local and cultural experiences and involve zooming around the country on two wheels between destinations, seeing each from a unique perspective.

They are a highly rated company that has been featured in multiple publications, but their Croatia bike tours are especially epic.

In Croatia, their Island Hopping bike tour from Split to Dubrovnik allows guests get to bike across three islands — Brač, Hvar, and Korčula — in addition to Split and Dubrovnik. At the beginning of each day, you sail with your bikes on the boat to the next island, then spend the rest of the day exploring the island on a bike. Imagine exploring olive groves in Brač, fields of lavender in Hvar, and visiting Marco Polo’s home in Korčula. An expert local guide and a support vehicle accompany guests at all times.

Croatia Sailing Companies: Go Croatia Sail Tennis Cruise

Yep, that’s right: a tennis cruise. This Split to Split cruise is focused specifically on playing tennis in different places in Croatia! It’s only one specific week in June, so if you are a tennis person get in it now (I actually can’t get over the cover picture on this tour with everyone and their tennis rackets!) 😛

Book your Tennis Croatia Sailing Tour

Did you think I was kidding when I said there was a Vegan Cruise?

You thought wrong! This raw vegan cruise takes place during the first week of August in Croatia on a very nice boat, and has yoga classes and lectures on veganism. What will be next?!

Think A Croatia Sailing Tour isn’t for You? Charter Your Own Boat!

If you’re still a bit iffy after reading about all these different kinds of Croatia sailing tours, I have the perfect solution for you: charter your own yacht! If you’ve got the budget and want the privacy, this is definitely the most luxurious option of all.

Head over to Sailo to charter a boat for you and your friends/family/group that meets your needs.

PHEW! That was a lot of Croatia Sailing Tours. Overwhelmed? I would be too. Feel free to send me an email at [email protected] if you need help sifting through all this information to find out which sail Croatia tour is right for you. Or, book a trip on Fjaka Sail and I’ll be there in person to help you.

Just use deductive reasoning: figure out if you want a young person tour or not, a floatilla or not, a smaller 8-person boat or a larger 30+ person boat with a chef/aircon, if you want something super luxurious or something cheaper, and finally if you want a specialty cruise (hiking, biking, tennis) or something… normal.

This should narrow things down, but. if you want my recommendation, go with a bigger and more luxurious boat with a one-way route! Enjoy your week sailing in Croatia!

Hi, i am struggling to find any information about Fanatics sail Croatia tour, i am hesitant to book as i don't want to be ripped off! Would you know where i could find up to date information? Thank you!! :)

Hey Alex!! The last time I was in contact with fantatics tours was a few years ago but they were going as strong as ever! I knew some of their guides in '15-'17 and some of my friends had a great time on their tour. If you are worried however try some of the other companies I recommended in this post - like Travel Talk (if you are worried about the price point) or Busabout/Topdeck (if you want the option of bigger boats). Hope this helped!

Learn to sail with Nautilus Sailing: A sailing adventure in Croatia

In sailing, there are three rules, we were told somewhat tongue-in-cheek:

  • Don’t hit stuff.
  • Keep water out of the boat.
  • Come back with the same number of people you left with.

I guess we passed our week as students on a  Nautilus Sailing  learn-to-sail liveaboard course in Croatia since we avoided crashes, came back with the right number of people, and water didn’t get into the boat (except what dripped off our bodies after a swim in crystal clear water).

The liveaboard learn-to-sail week was fun, too. Isn’t that what adventure travel should be? Particularly when it means sailing on a luxury catamaran around the Split Archipelago of Croatian islands – blue skies, translucent waters, fresh seafood, and lunches moored in a private cove with a swim.

“This doesn’t suck!” Nautilus lead instructor and founder Tim Geisler exclaimed several times a day.

Can’t argue with that. And it could be said for every destination where Nautilus takes its liveaboard students — including the Bahamas, Tahiti, and Mallorca. As media, we did less actual studying than our fellow students did on two other Nautilus liveaboard boats also on the Croatia Sailing adventure. We did, however, get a taste of the learning, which started unglamorously enough with a lesson on how to use the toilet, a.k.a. “head” in ship-speak. After that came learning the parts of a boat, how to steer and read all those dials, tying knots (“If you can’t tie a knot, tie a lot,” we were told), anchoring, rescuing somebody overboard (essential stuff, right?), jumping the halyard, raising the mainsail, and the names of the “ropes.” Ooops, sorry, I slipped. Demerits for me. Never call it a rope on a boat; it’s a line, sheet or halyard depending on its function.

No matter how much learning was done – and this is an intense, immersive week — everybody still had fun, from wine-tasting and ice cream sampling, to strolls along the waterfront promenade of Hvar and motor-scootering around the island of Vis. The other “real” students, however, all ended up with a captain’s certification after just a week (and passing some tests), which allows them to charter or buy their own boat. We on the other hand got a great taste of the sailing life that is akin to RVing on the water. Where classroom lessons really don’t suck.

“We want to give students an authentic taste of sailing,” said Geisler. “It’s not just about the white, flappy things. It’s all the things you see and do.”

Meeting fellow students and our luxury ocean ride: Day 1

The week didn’t start with great glamour, however, as an unusual late September storm moved in. We had to don rain jackets and make a dash along the dock to the catamaran to keep from getting soaked and chilled. Then we met our ride for the next week – a Fontaine Pajot Astrea 42 luxury catamaran outfitted with four ensuite cabins in the hulls – two fore and two aft. On Nautilus liveaboard courses, you see, there are never more than four students in any weeklong course. So, you get personal attention and lots of time with the instructor onboard to help ensure you do pass the sailing certification.

Sailing out from Trogir: Day 2

Luckily for our week in Croatia, the clouds started to clear the morning of our departure from Trogir. We motored out of the marina and headed toward the island of Solta – mind you, not the villages on Solta because when you are cruising the waters you can head wherever you want. In our case, the first few hours took us to the Sesula Cove (“Uvala Sesula) on the northwest corner of this small island. But we didn’t just hang out and watch the view. Geisler, our Nautilus instructor for the week, used most every minute during our weeklong liveaboard course, for teaching, albeit perhaps in sometimes subtle ways. On our way to the Solta cove, we each practiced “driving” so we could learn how to maneuver, stop, and turn the boat, all the while  talking terminology  because sailors really do have their own vocabulary.

Each day started comfortably but not too lazy, and we were usually anchored somewhere by mid-afternoon – either a peaceful cove or an island marina. During lunch or at the day’s evening anchor (or perhaps both!) came the mandatory swim off the back of the boat. Since we sailed with two other boats – a catamaran and a monohull, both with students – we all anchored together each night.

We did get a chance to experience the magic of sailing that first day – unfurling the sails with our own muscle, watch them fill and billow out, and then feel the boat surge forward, powered only by the wind taking us where we wanted to go.

Dubrovnik - 3 nights

Havr - 2 nights

Split - 2 nights

Plitvice Lake Park - 1 night

Rovinj - 2 nights

Zagreb - 2 nights

Normally I like to spend at least three nights in one hotel or apartment, but there does not seem to be a logical place to park ourselves along the coast and manage to see all the areas by staying in one location. Will we be in the car too much or is the car ride between towns just as pleasant as the visit in the towns? Thoughts would very much be appreciated.

Aggressive but not too aggressive in my opinion. There will be some drive time there on a couple of those days but it’s an itinerary that I think I could do.

Yes it is aggressive.

sailing trip croatia

You could also lose Zagreb and fly out of Pula if you can find flights , but Zagreb has more flights than anywhere.

Have you found a day trip you want to take from Dubrovnik ? If not then for the number of days you have and the distance you want to cover I would do two nights. You only need one full day to see the Old Town .

I might plan it this way.

Dubrovnik - 2 nights

If you don't think you need a car then you can rent it as you leave in downtown Dubrovnik at Avax or Uni Rent.

Drive up the Makarska riviera to Split. You might find it interesting to stop at Ston and Makarska Town. At Makarska Town you can get a tuk tuk tour up the mountain to the Biokovo skywalk. Takes about 3 hours though I think, I haven't gotten a chance to do it yet. Not sure if it's going on in late Sept either.

Split - 4 nights

Full day in Split Old Town. Day trip to Hvar by ferry. Day trip by car to choices like Trogir , Sibenik , Primosten. If your heart is set on spending the night on an island then you could take a day from here. For overnight on an island you might also consider Korcula Town. It's a very short ferry from the mainland at Orebic. A bit of a detour on the way from Dubrovnik to Split.

Rovinj - 3 nights

Day trip to Pula to Roman arena if that interests you. Eat at Batelina if you go down that way. Day trip to hilltop towns Motovun, Groznjan. On your way out of Istria to Zagreb swing by Hum.

If typical small European capitals don't have a big interest for you then you could try for a different departure airport and skip Zagreb as mentioned and adjust the itinerary as needed.

Do not feel a huge need to spend the night on Havr so settling into a place in Split and doing a day trip to Hvar sounds more relaxing than breaking it up into 2/2.
