First we save the rave! Then we save the world!

It’s 2024 and  SCOOTER  are at the peak of their powers (so far).

The amazing  SCOOTER  documentary  FCK2020 – Two and a half years with SCOOTER  was successfully running in the German and Austrian cinemas and can now be seen on NETFLIX.

The documentary FCK 2020 by director Cordula Kablitz-Post accompanied Germany’s techno superstars  SCOOTER  across Europe from the beginning of 2020, two and a half years – privately, in the studio, on the road, at concerts.

Also accompanied the release of the album number 20 –  GOD SAVE THE RAVE  -charted at #4 and belongs to their impressive collection of chart successes! In the course of their illustrious history,  SCOOTER  have spent more than 500 weeks on the singles chart and 300 weeks on the album chart, selling in excess of 30 million units. Not to mention more than 100 gold and platinum records from all over the world. No other German band can match their series of top ten hits from a catalogue that rivals those of the most successful artists of all time, such as Madonna, Michael Jackson, Rihanna or Depeche Mode!

In the beginning of 2023 the band announced The  7 th  Chapter  and a new line-up with the well-known former band member Jay Frog and young producer talent Marc Blou. The 7 th  Chapter was already introduced with the successful single “ Waste Your Youth ”.

From spring 2024 onwards the fans have the chance to enjoy the band on their huge arena Tour “THIRTY, ROUGH AND DIRTY!” .

Beyond the stage, the trio’s influence extends to pop culture and the arts, acknowledged by US talk show legend Jimmy Fallon. H.P. Baxxter’s multi-faceted contributions include jury roles on TV casting shows and endorsements for major brands, underscoring the band’s enduring cultural significance.

In the UK, they made waves in the ’90s and ’00s, even going on to score a Number 1 album in 2008 with the iconic “Jumping All Over The World”. Over on the singles front, they dominated in 2002 with “Ramp! (The Logical Song)”, claiming the Number 2 position, just behind Elvis vs. JXL with “A Little Less Conversation” and again behind Gareth Gates’ “Anyone of Us (Stupid Mistake)”, they followed that up with a Number 4 in the same year for their single “Nessaja”.

A Guide to Scooter Events in the UK

  • 13 April 2022 -
  • Read time 8 mins -
  • In Scooter & Moped

The scooter Rally calendar is chock-a-block, and that’s not just because of the absence of Rallies and events over the last few years because of COVID-19.

With their return, 2022 makes for an exciting and extremely busy season. And if you, like us, can’t wait to get back on the horse (or Lambretta, Vespa, or whatever your chosen steed is), then stick with us in this guide as we highlight some of the biggest scooter events in the UK!

Whitby BSRA National Rally (15th-18th April) ‎

Running over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend and kicking off the scooter Rally season, Whitby is the first of the BSRA National Rallies for 2022.

As well as an abundance of scoots to lust over, two nights of entertainment including live bands and DJs are also scheduled. On top of that, a Sunday Rideout hosted by the Whitby Scooter Club is set to take place.

The Rally campsite is located at Broadings Farm, Guisborough Road, Whitby, Y021 1TL, and no pre-booking is necessary for scooters or camping. However, for campervans and motorhomes, you must pre-pay and pre-book. The site is open from 12 pm on the 15 th and closes at 12 pm on the 18 th of April.

Weekend tickets bought in advance cost £16 and evening tickets for both Friday and Saturday also bought in advance, cost £7. You can find all information on tickets at https://vfmscoot.co.uk/tickets/ .

Location: Whitby Pavilion Complex, YO21 3EN.

Bangers and Mash Rally (22nd-24th April) ‎

Hosted by the Can’t Start Won’t Start Scooter Club (CSWSSC), get a huge helping of the Bangers and Mash Rally from the 22 nd -24 th of April.

With a number of live bands performing, an outdoor disco, stalls and a bouncy castle, this is an event for the whole family to enjoy.

The finer details you need to know are that gates open from 10 am. Scooter parking is free but parking for cars costs £5 and campervans or caravans cost £10. Pre-booked tickets cost £15, and tickets bought at the gate cost £20.

Location: MFN, Shipley Gate, Eastwood, Nottingham, NG16 3JE.

Tenby BSRA National Rally (29th April-2nd May) ‎

Starting the party on the 29th of April and finishing on Bank Holiday Monday, the Tenby Rally is another regular on the BSRA National Rally list and a place that’s been a favourite amongst the local scooter clubs since the late 90s.

Its offerings will be similar to what we’ve seen in past years. This includes a Saturday afternoon Rideout around Pembrokeshire, live bands such as The Riff, Future Sailors and The Navarones, a retro, reggae and soul room, a custom show, parts fair and an end of rally party.

Advance weekend entertainment tickets cost £15, and this is the same for access to the campsite which can be paid on arrival.

Location: De Valence Pavilion/Tenby United RFC, Upper Frog Street, Tenby, SA70 7JD.

Skegness Scooter Rally (29th April-2nd May) ‎

The Skegness Scooter Rally is another that falls over a Bank Holiday weekend. So pack up your two-wheeled machine and get ready for four days of all things scooters including a parts fair and custom show, live bands and a selection of top Rally DJs led by Dave Porter of Scooterist Internet Radio. Can you think of a better way to spend your Early May Bank Holiday weekend, I think not!

To attend for the weekend, wristbands costing £25 must be pre-ordered. Also available are Friday and Saturday evening wristbands costing £12.50 each night and Saturday day passes for £5. Entry for those under 16's is free for the whole event.

Location: The Suncastle and The Savoy Hotel.

Mid-Cheshire Charity Rally (6th-7th May) ‎

The Mid-Cheshire Charity Rally and Beer Festival (I know, there couldn’t be a better combination, could there!) makes a comeback for 2022 on the 6 th and 7 th of May.

Providing the best of both two-wheels and one of the UK’s favourite refreshments, celebrate the start of the summer with a variety of ales, a custom scooter show, tug of war, live music, disco, children’s entertainment and facilities for those staying over in either a caravan, motorhome or tent.

For tickets, you’ll need to visit heartfest.co.uk

Location: Lady Heyes Holiday Park, Frodsham, Cheshire, WA6 6SU.

Kelso BSRA National Rally (2nd-5th June) ‎

As the only Scottish Scooter Rally in the BSRA calendar, the Kelso Rally is one we here at Lexham have attended many a time. It’s also one that is taking full advantage of this year’s June four-day bank holiday weekend (thank you, Queenie!).

Just like all the other BSRA Rallies, you’ll roughly know what to expect – a parts fair, custom show, live music and camping facilities. But Kelso adds to that a silent disco and on-site tattooist so if you see a custom scooter that you can’t get out of your head, you can get inked and remember it forever!

The cost to enter the Rally is £20 for the weekend, and that’s the same for the car park per vehicle.

Location: Border Union Agricultural Showground, Springwood Park, Kelso TD5 8LS.

Big 7 BSRA National Rally (10th-12th June) ‎

With hundreds of scooters and people through the gate and a bit of Great British sunshine (hopefully, you never can guarantee it!), the Big 7 Rally is one that’s hard to beat.

As one of the biggest events in the BSRA calendar, the Big 7 hosts a National custom show, access to a Dynomometer to discover whether your scooter is the fastest on-site, parts fair, live bands and, as per usual, a selection of national and international DJs performing over the weekend. This is another Rally Lexham likes to attend, and we can say first-hand, that it really kicks off the summer!

Tickets for the weekend cost £25, weekend car parking also costs £25 and weekend parking for your van, motorhome or caravan costs £60, all can be purchased through the website .

Location: Hop Farm, Paddock Wood, Maidstone Rd, Beltring, Tonbridge TN12 6QF.

Cleethorpes BSRA National Rally (1st-3rd July) ‎

Located in Meridian Park, the BSRA National Rally at Cleethorpes holds scooters at the heart of its event (as they should be!) and offers a scooters-only campsite at Meridian Park. Alongside that, you can get your fix of all things retro with evening entertainment that includes 2 music rooms with live performances and guest DJs and a custom show and parts fair that’s taking place on the Saturday.

Your ticket will cost you £20 but that covers entry and all evening dos across the weekend.

Location: Meridian Showground Events Arena, Kings Rd, Cleethorpes DN35 0AR.

Weymouth BSRA National Rally (15th-17th July) ‎

Marking the middle of summer, what better way to spend it than at yet another BSRA National Rally but this time, in Weymouth.

The last time Weymouth saw a Scooter Rally was way back in 1983, so 37 years later, it’s great to see its return. Celebrations begin on the 15 th until the 17 th of July, and they don’t sound like they are going to disappoint. With live entertainment, a trade show, custom show and Rideout taking place over the weekend. The only thing to note is that this is an adult event.

Tickets start at £10, but they vary in type and price. However, there is no pressure to book as organisers have said to just turn up on the day.

Location: Weymouth Pavilion, The Esplanade, Weymouth DT4 8ED.

Isle of Wight BSRA National Rally (26th-29th August) ‎

Scooters gather from far and wide for the Isle of Wight BSRA National rally, and, as usual, it’s taking place over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Get ready to jump on the ferry because with classic scoots, beers, entertainment and sunshine aplenty (is there a better way to spend your extra days off work?), this well-known Rally offers camping, live music, a custom show and Sunday Rideout, which is an event in itself and not to be missed! Feel free to dress as you wish, but many go for fancy dress. I’ve looked through past photos and seen anything from bananas to nuns, riding a Vespa so how crazy you go is really up to you!

Just remember to secure your ticket before the 16 th of August!

We’ve still got a little while to go seeing as it takes place towards the end of the summer, but it’s definitely one to wait for! And one where we’ll see you there!

Location: Sandown Airport, Scotchells Brook Lane, Sandown, P036 0JP.

Mersea Island Rally (2nd-4th September) ‎

Established in 1993, the Mersea Island Rally is one of the longest-running.

Organised by Colchester DVLC, this Rally is putting on a show of Scooterist Radio DJs playing classic party anthems, silent disco (who doesn’t love one of those?!), live bands and plenty of outdoor games – you’re never too old to throw an egg, play tug of war or a selection of others that I’ve never heard of such as 'Where’s Me Beer', 'Sponge Bob' and 'Beer & Banana' (which sounds...interesting...), but I can imagine they’ll all be entertaining enough because they include alcohol!

It guarantees a lot of old-school fun so get yourself down to Colchester over the weekend of the 2 nd -4 th of September. All ticket information can be found on the website .

Location: Essex Outdoors, Rewsall Lane, East Mersea, Colchester Essex, C05 8SX.

scooter tour 2023 uk

Woolacombe BSRA National Rally (23rd-26th September) ‎

With scooters in every colour of the rainbow and in every combination you will (and some you won’t have) thought of, plus everything you can expect to see at the other BSRA Rallies, Woolacombe takes place from the 23 rd and until the 26 th of September.

Location: Golden Coast Holiday Village, Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks, EX34 7HW.

Southport BSRA National Rally (28th-30th October) ‎

The Southport is the final on the list today and brings the BSRA National Rally season to a close for 2022. And, as it’s the last in the diary, you’ll want to throw yourself into everything it has to offer!

Of course, being the last rally of the year, Southport also brings an end to the BSRA Rally Championship which will see the three big awards being handed out, including best-supporting female, best-supporting male and best-supporting club which we at Lexham are proud to have sponsored for many years now!

I can only imagine that once this Rally is over, the countdown for the 2023 Rally season begins – I know it definitely does for us!

Location: Prince of Wales Hotel, Southport.

‘Tis the season to scooter and I have a feeling it’s going to be one to remember! If you do attend any of the Rallies mentioned, please send us your photos on social media or drop us a message telling us how you got on!

Scooting Stars | Top 10 BEST Maxi-Scooters of 2023

Scooters may be small, but sometimes bigger is just better... but which of these biggest super-sized 'Maxi-Scooter' is best of all?

Ollie Barstow's picture

Who doesn’t love a scooter? Nimble, easy to ride, convenient and comfy, the humble scooter may traditionally put function over form but few modes of transport are as fun, accessible and - for the most part - affordable.

While the fundamentals haven’t changed all that much over the decades, there is now a huge variety to suit every need, whether you want something mature and zippy or frugal and electric, designed to dart through traffic or break out of the city limits… hell, you can even choose three-wheels instead of two if you so wish.

One word you wouldn’t associate with the scooter, however, is ‘luxury’. But times are a changing and there are an increasing number of scooters that blur the lines between honest runaround and something that offers greater versatility on the road and is more lavishly appointed..

With a balance to be struck between Maxi-affordable and Maxi-plush, can any of these new entries make a big impression in our Top 10 BEST Maxi-Scooters of 2023?

Suzuki Burgman 400, Suzuki Scooter .jpg

10. Suzuki Burgman 400

The flagship in Suzuki ’s four-strong scooter line-up, the Suzuki Burgman 400 received an update recently to keep it looking fresh against increasingly competitive opposition.

Key to the update was a retooling of its 400cc single-cylinder engine, which now meets Euro5 standards, in part thanks to its handy stop-start keyless ignition tech.

Some welcome tweaks include the options of navy rims and discrete matte black exhaust, but overall the Burgman 400 is looking its age next to more adventurous competition.

Still, it remains good value in this company, popping in at just under £7,000, a tag that currently comes with a two-year servicing deal, while it is comfortable, generously equipped and should prove reliable.

Peugeot Metropolis SW

9. Peugeot Metropolis SW

After a period of banishment in certain markets - after Piaggio won a legal case accusing Peugeot of copying patents for its three-wheel suspension set-up - the Peugeot Metropolis SW trike is back on these shores.

Following the trail blazed by the innovative Piaggo MP3, the Peugeot Metropolis SW doesn’t stray too far from its inspiration’s unusual brief, with the two front, one rear wheel arrangement ensuring superior agility and grip.

Given a thorough refresh in 2021, the Metropolis SW is available with a 399cc engine offering 36bhp, while the sporty-themed looks are more attractive than the MP3… though it is and will always be a quirky looking thing!

BMW CE.04

8. BMW CE.04

The future is already now at BMW , which has chosen to make its first from the ground up electric two-wheeler an ultra-modern maxi-scooter.

Enter (silently) the BMW CE.04 , which wears its EV heart like a crown via its clean, minimalist lines that scream (silently) this is no average scooter…. Just try to ignore its Sinclair C5 plastics and Dyson-like colour touches.

This isn’t BMW’s first electric scooter attempt, but this is the first to be all new from the drawing board. This means it has been developed very deliberately to ensure it maximises its eco-conscious, frugal credentials.

At £12,850, the CE.04 is pricey relative to options - scooter, electric or otherwise - in that price bracket, but the margin over other petrol maxi-scooters means it won’t be too long before you’re saving plenty of pennies.

Visordown Review | BMW CE.04

kymco-ak-550-premium-7.jpg

7. Kymco AK550 Premium

One of Europe and Asia’s highest-profile scooter manufacturers, while Kymco is less of a household name over here in the UK, its compact range is definitely worth a look.

At £10,399, the Kymco AK550 Premium is a modest £500 more than the entry-level equivalent and while it stacks up well against the similarly priced Honda Forza 750 in terms of performance and kit, it loses out on the assurance of its rivals’ substantially greater dealer network.

BMW C400 GT

6. BMW C400 GT

If your budget doesn’t stretch to the BMW CE.04 - and you don’t have an aversion to petrol stations now and again - then the sister petrol-sipping BMW C400 GT offers good value, stylish urban mobility.

On the road the C400 GT handles well and feels brisk and though you’ll compromise some power compared to most of its Maxi-Scooter rivals, the kick-back is getting BMW engineering and kudos at competitive £7,340 price.

Visordown Review | BMW C400 GT

Piaggio MP3 HPE 530 Exclusive

5. Piaggio MP3 Exclusive 530

The game-changing Piaggio MP3 has evolved from curious oddball to becoming a regular sight on Europe’s city streets in the 17 years since it was first revealed.

Indeed, while you trade some agility, the MP3 never feels cumbersome, while the extra stability and grip from having an extra wheel is ideal for those perhaps intimidated by riding through the urban jungle.

A recent update introduced the HPE 530 Exclusive as a new flagship to the range, which makes lighter work of the MP3’s relative heft than the 500cc engined version it replaces and features a host of premium tech features usually reserved for top-of-the-range motorcycles, including cruise control, a rear-view camera, a reverse gear and Blind Spot alerts.

Yamaha TMAX 560 Tech Max

4. Yamaha TMAX Tech Max 560

Self-styled as a ‘sports scooter’, while the TMAX’s relation to the Yamaha R1 is cousin, twice-removed, step-lovechild at best, compared with models of its ilk it is the model you’d feel most comfortable riding in your neon Valentino Rossi helmet.

With 47bhp from the 562cc at your fingertips, the TMAX feels mature and refined on the go, offering the agility of tackling the urban jungle without feeling too overawed upon straying outside the city limits.

It’s well-kitted out too with its multi-functional Garmin-navigation TFT dashboard, electric screen and heated grips, though this comes at a substantial price with the £13,800 tag making it hard to justify over its sister model, the Yamaha XMAX 300.

Visordown Review | Yamaha TMAX 560 Tech Max [2022]

Honda X-ADV 2021 Off-road scooter

3. Honda Forza 750 & Honda X-ADV

If Yamaha has taken the concept of a Grand Touring scooter to the ‘MAX’, then may the ‘Forza’ be with you if you opt for Honda ’s equivalent super-sized scooter.

Boasting plenty of luggage space, a mature riding experience and unmistakable Honda quality, the XL-size Forza has some zip too with 58bhp on tap from its 745cc engine to blur the lines between scooter and motorcycle

If the Honda Forza 750 is too much of a ‘default choice’ for you though, then Honda gives you the option to go rogue with the quirky X-ADV.

Proof that Honda can not only think outside the box, but Feng Shui it too, the Honda X-ADV is the scooter for those who commute during the week but like to get a bit filthy at the weekends too.

It’s not cheap at £11,099, unless you hear the call of the wilderness, the Forza 750 at £10,399 is arguably the more logical choice.

Visordown Review | Honda Forza 750 [2022]

Honda Forza 350.jpg

2. Honda Forza 350

If you don’t need the extra engine capacity, most will find the Honda Forza 350 ample enough to satisfy your scooter desires.

A perennially popular choice in the UK, the Forza retains all of Honda ’s sensibilities for engineering, quality, reliability and affordable running costs but condenses them into a temptingly good value product.

A recent restyle adopts more of the larger 750’s features, including sharper front-end, LED lighting and voice-activated smartphone connectivity, while an upgrade from 297cc to 330cc gives the Forza 350 just enough squirt to live up to its ‘Sporty GT’ billing.

And, just like its 750 sibling, it too now comes with a Honda ADV350 variant that can handle the odd light off-road challenges.

In short, while the Forza 350 isn’t so much ‘maxi’ in nature, being a Honda it feels bigger and plusher than its like-for-like rivals.

Visordown Review | Honda ADV350 [2022]

2023 Yamaha XMAX

1. Yamaha XMAX 300 Tech Max

While we’re perhaps pushing the concept of what classifies as a Maxi-Scooter with the Yamaha XMAX 300 Tech Max, we’ve relaxed the proverbial rule book here… after all, it literally has double MAX in capital letters right there in the name.

A model that vyes with the Honda Forza for status as the UK’s best-selling two-wheeler in 125cc trim, Yamaha recently upped the ante with the launch of its latest generation model, which spruces up the design with some neat design touches, including more angular bodywork and X-theme headlight configuration.

While it can’t match the later TMAX’s big bike feel, what the Yamaha XMAX 300 loses in presence and power at a modest 28bhp, it ‘maxes’ out in quality and grown-up feel, without losing its sure-footedness in city environments too.

In Tech Max trim, the XMAX 300 comes with smartphone connectivity and Garmin compatible navigation relayed through a new multi-theme 4.2-inch TFT dashboard, while the Standard features a 4.3-inch LCD screen with smartphone connectivity.

Leather-style seat and lid covers also feature on the Tech models, together with aluminium footplates, plus keyless ignition and traction control.

Prices for the Yamaha XMAX 300 start at £6,205, with the fully-loaded Tech Max tagged at £6,705.

Big 7 scooter rally 2023: Preview | NEWS

Home » Big 7 scooter rally 2023: Preview | NEWS

After 10 years at The Hop Farm, Big 7 Scooter Rally moves to a new venue for this weekend’s BSRA event. The South of England Showground is the venue, will you be there?

The Showground is set in 150 acres of beautiful Sussex countryside and is located around 20 miles from Brighton and 36 from London. With direct access from the M23 and M25 it’s easy enough to get to for both UK and overseas rally goers.

Where is it?

South of England Showground, Selsfield Road, Ardingly, West Sussex, RH17 6TL.

Despite having to relocate both the rally and its date, BIG 7 Scooter Club have pulled out all the stops to get this event up and running. From what we’ve been told, it looks like this venue will be better in many respects than the old place.

Camping/glamping

For starters the camping area is massive and on flat grass, you have the choice of basic camping or pre-booked glamping and there are electric hookups if you want to plug your hairdryers in!

There are decent showers and clean toilets on site so you don’t have to rough it too much!

Four wheels?

There is limited PRE-PAID car/van/motorhome parking – if you haven’t booked and paid you won’t be allowed to park on site.  Scooters are free and unlimited. Exceptions will be made for genuine breakdowns/injury etc. and can be paid on the gate.

Entertainment

The main room will be a mixture of all types of scooter rally music and will be located in the Queen’s Jubilee Hall. Music will be on from 6 pm-1 am and the bar closes at 12:30.

Big 7 always like to have a variety of entertainment and if you love live music you’ll be pleased to know Angelo Starr and the Team are headlining. There’s also Clash tribute, London Calling, Ohasis, P45, The Start, Kevin Inverson, The Skabratts and The Kix.

All the live music will be in the Robins Building, it’s a huge 17,000-square-metre venue which will also house the food court and various areas for seating, bar, and chilling out. The music will be on all day here and will finish at 11 pm, bar at 12:30 and catering at 1 am.

Olas Boss Reggae

The Young Farmers Hall will host the third entertainment space. This will be taken over by the heavy bass sounds of Olas Boss Reggae from 6 pm. Expect to see lots of middle-aged skinnyhead types trying to start imaginary lawnmowers. This room closes at 11 pm but may turn into a silent disco after hours…

  • This venue will be great come rain or shine because there is plenty of undercover space for shelter from heat or wetness.
  • Large indoor food court with 8 vendors (including veggie options)
  • Pub opposite the campsite
  • Over 30 traders on site – including get-you-home spares
  • Custom show

The campsite opens at 10 am Friday 14th July and closes at noon on Sunday.

It costs £25 for the full weekend, cash only on the gate when you arrive. Day passes are available for £10, (you’ll pay £25 on the gate and get £15 back if you leave by 4 pm). Children under 15 go free but bring proof of age, they also have to leave the venues by 11 pm.

Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally

  • Price: from £23590
  • Engine: 1158cc V-Four
  • Power: 170bhp
  • Torque: 121Nm
  • Weight: 260Kg
  • Seat Height: 870-890mm
  • On Sale: Now

Following on from the ADV-cum-tourer V4/V4 S and the sportier Pikes Peak, the 2023 Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally is the most off-road oriented version of the model yet.

Following an off-road trail blazed by the DesertX - Ducati’s first proper attempt at an ADV model - the Multistrada V4 Rally toughens up with wire-wheels, taller suspension, a substantially larger 30 litre fuel tank and more rugged bodywork.

Under the skin, the 1158cc V4 engine has been re-tuned to deliver improved low-down torque, while the in-built suspension travel sensor makes for a more intuitive off-road performance. Throw in Ducati’s pioneering radar assisted tech and all manner of trickery to make things as safe as they are fun both on and off road and the V4 Rally brings some serious skills to a competitive segment.

However, at £23,590, while the Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally may be a premium product through and through, it isn’t cheap.

Suzuki V-Strom 800 DE

  • Price: from £10499
  • Engine: 776cc, Parallel Twin
  • Power: 84bhp
  • Torque: 78Nm@6800rpm
  • Weight: 230Kg
  • Seat Height: 855mm
  • On Sale: Spring '23

While the ‘V’ no longer stands for V-Twin, the venerable Suzuki V-Strom enjoys a new lease of life for 2023 in the form of the much anticipated latest generation, the Suzuki V-Strom 800 DE .

Reflecting its upgrade to Suzuki’s new 776cc parallel-twin engine, the new V-Strom 800 DE - on sale this Spring - has undergone a transformation to lean away from its soft adventure-tourer predecessor and step more definitively into the competitive mid-size ADV category.

With 83bhp on tap, not only does the V-Strom 800 DE feel brisker than most of its rivals, it delivers its peak torque at lower rpm to give it more pulling power. Meanwhile, excellent Showa suspension keeps things in check both on and off-road.

With prices starting at £10,499, the new V-Strom 800 DE might have been a long time coming but - according to our first ride review - it has been worth the wait.

Honda XL750 Transalp

  • Price: from £9669
  • Engine: 755cc, Parallel Twin
  • Torque: 75Nm@7250rpm
  • Weight: 221Kg
  • Seat Height: 850mm

Not content with just dusting off the Hornet nameplate, this year also sees Honda resurrect the Transalp moniker for its return to the mid-size ADV class.

The Honda XL750 Transalp - to give it its full title - has been developed from Honda’s ambitious new 755cc parallel-twin platform, a base that the Japanese firm has championed for being low in weight, yet strong and durable.

It’s a combination that should prove particularly effective on the Transalp as Honda attempts to find that balance between on-road refinement and off-road ability.

It’s certainly got some grunt, with the 90bhp engine packing a bigger punch than its main rivals and proving only a few digits off its CRF1100L Africa Twin brother, while - being Honda - it comes with a raft of well-engineered tech and gizmos to keep things in check.

Prices will start at £9,499 when it goes on sale officially in the next few months.

New motorcycles for 2023 adventure sports tourers_05

  • Price: from £24150
  • Engine: 17.3kWh Electric Motor
  • Power: 100bhp
  • Torque: 225Nm
  • Weight: 247Kg
  • Seat Height: 828mm

Shun electric power all you like, more and more eco-conscious motorcycles are arriving all the time and this - the Zero DSR/X - is among the most ambitious yet.

Already a stalwart of the electric motorcycle game, Zero is putting its reputation right on the line with the DSR/X, the first proper full-size EV ADV to measure itself against the very best in the segment.

Packing a 17.3kWh battery, the Zero DSR/X offers 75kW (102bhp) of power and 225Nm/166 ftlb of torque, which we described as ‘breathtaking’ in our review late last year, the DSR/X is also a hoot to drive on the road too.

If anything, you’d quickly forget you were riding an electric motorcycle altogether were it not for a £24,150 price tag that makes it considerably pricier than the Ducati Multistrada, Triumph Tiger 1200 and KTM 1290 Adventure S.

Yamaha Ténéré 700 Rally

  • Price: from £11400
  • Engine: 690cc, Parallel Twin
  • Power: 72bhp
  • Torque: 69Nm@6500rpm
  • Weight: 203Kg
  • Seat Height: 895mm

Targeted at those who’d describe their off-road activities as ‘serious’, the Yamaha Ténéré 700 Rally is inspired by the firm’s exploits in the toughest off-road test there is; the Dakar Rally.

While the standard Ténéré 700 - which was joined by the longer-range World Tour last year - already punches above its weight when it comes to taking on the wild, Yamaha has turned things up to 11 with the Rally version, adding an alloy skid plate under the engine, radiator protectors, a taller ‘Rally Seat’, rubber grip knee/thigh pads and off-road bar grips.

It also comes with an Akrapovič slip-on that Yamaha says enhances torque sensation for more responsive riding in tougher terrain.

MV Agusta Lucky Explorer 9.5

  • Price: £TBC
  • Engine: 631cc, Parallel Triple
  • Power: 124bhp
  • Torque: 102Nm@7000rpm
  • Weight: 224Kg
  • Seat Height: 850-870mm
  • On Sale: TBC

If you’ve had your eye on the MV Agusta Lucky Explorer 9.5 ever since it was revealed to the world back in November 2021, then it seems there is still a wait ahead to get your hands on one.

A bulging pre-orders book that caught MV Agusta by surprise has left the Varese firm in a quandary in terms of meeting demand, forcing the Lucky Explorer’s release date to be pushed back into this year.

This could pose a problem because the rapidly growing mid-size adventure segment has changed a lot over the last 18 months, but there is still plenty of intrigue in the quirkily-titled Lucky Explorer - a homage to its spiritual predecessor, the Lucky Strike-sponsored, Dakar Rally-winning Cagiva Elefant.

Boasting MV’s new 121bhp 931cc triple-cylinder engine, we’ve already had the chance to try out a pre-production prototype and - suffice to say - it still brims with exotic appeal, even as an off-roader.

KTM 1290 Adventure S

  • Price: from £16599
  • Engine: 1290cc, V-Twin
  • Power: 116bhp
  • Torque: 138Nm@6500rpm
  • Weight: 239Kg
  • Seat Height: 849-869mm

With the unveiling of the Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally and the new BMW R 1300 GS Adventure but a few months away, the KTM 1290 Adventure S has sharpened up its act for 2023 with a series of tweaks.

Key among the updates includes an improved 7-inch TFT displayed GPS system with re-designed infographics and menu options, plus Turn-by-Turn+ navigation guidance.

Under the skin, the KTM 1290 Super Adventure S is equipped with a detuned version of the 1301cc unit as found in the sportier Super Duke, pumping out 160hp and 138Nm of torque, while the ‘ChroMo’ stainless steel chassis comes with tweaked geometry to accentuate cornering potential and stability, working with the specially designed WP semi-active suspension.

KTM 890 Adventure

  • Engine: 889cc, Parallel Twin
  • Power: 103bhp
  • Torque: 100Nm@6500rpm
  • Weight: 210Kg
  • Seat Height: 830mm

KTM has been fettling its entire Travel-Rally range for 2023 with the KTM 890 Adventure also brought up to date amid a wave of incoming new rivals.

Already one of the most capable off-roaders out there regardless of size, the 2023 KTM 890 Adventure gets a host of small but welcome tweaks, among them new seat upholstery, a more cohesive front-end design, a new 5-inch TFT dash design and revised WP Apex suspension.

Prices start at £10,499 for the 890 Adventure and £12,999 for the more rough’em, tough’em 890 Adventure R.

Suzuki V-Strom 1050DE

  • Price: from £13,699
  • Engine: 1037cc, V-Twin
  • Power: 107bhp
  • Torque: 100Nm@6000rpm
  • Weight: 252Kg
  • Seat Height: 880mm

Not prepared to let the new V-Strom 800 DE to completely steal the show, Suzuki has also taken the time to bring the larger Suzuki V-Strom 1050 up to date for 2023.

Like its sibling, the 1050 model range now gets a ‘DE’ (Dual Explorer) trim level that demonstrates it too has shifted away from its erstwhile ADV-cum-Tourer positioning into a proper off-road focused rival for the Honda Africa Twin.

As is standard for Suzuki, the V-Strom 1050 DE’s updates appear subtle on the surface, with the improvements - revised display infographics, potent engine and generous equipment - instead making themselves known to you the more time you spend with it. It even puts up a good fight in the rough stuff.

The 2023 Suzuki V-Strom 1050 DE is on sale now with prices starting at £13,699.

Husqvarna Norden 901 Expedition

  • Price: from £13599
  • Engine: 890cc, Parallel Twin
  • Power: 105bhp
  • Torque : 100Nm@6500rpm
  • Seat Height: 854mm

If the standard Husqvarna Norden 901 is just a bit too timid for those filthy weekends in the wilderness, then never fear for the more muscular-looking Husqvarna Norden 901 Expedition is now available.

With a new colourway, rugged skid plate and a taller screen helping the Norden 901’s Scandi-chic design pop just that bit more, the Expedition’s upgrade is more than simply cosmetic. Heated grips, a centre stand and 18 litre side bags are thrown in, as is uprated WP Apex suspension that should address misgivings about pre-launch model’s performance in the rough.

Better still, even with all of those features, the £13,599 price tag represents a meagre £900 premium over the standard model.

BikeSocial’s Husqvarna 901 Norden Expedition Technical Review

KTM 790 Adventure

  • Price: from £9999
  • Engine: 790cc, Parallel Twin
  • Power: 94bhp
  • Torque: 88Nm@6500rpm
  • Weight: 215Kg
  • Seat Height: 840-860mm

If new adventure motorcycles are getting just a bit too special to roll around in the mud on, then here’s a novel solution from KTM, which has resurrected its 790 Adventure model for just that reason.

Indeed, while the model that succeeded it - the 890 Adventure - is certainly a step forward in quality, it’s also a fair chunk more expensive. As such, the still very capable KTM 790 Adventure - equipped with the well-proven, CFMoto-manufactured LC8 790cc parallel-twin - is back to fill a more value-orientated role.

So long as you’re content with this being the equivalent of the Apple iPhone 12 versus the Apple iPhone 14, there is still plenty of appeal here.

  • Power: 75bhp
  • Torque: 68Nm@6250rpm
  • Weight: 220Kg
  • Seat Height: 825mm

Yet another brand new option in the busy mid-size ADV class, the Benelli TRK 702 arrives to build on the success of the smaller TRK 502 on the European mainland.

Equipped with an all-new 693cc parallel-twin engine boasting 75bhp at 8,500rpm and 68.2Nm of torque at 6,250rpm, the TRK 702 will be available in tourer-style standard trim and in more off-road focused X trim.

Offering a more matured rendition of the TRK family face, the Benelli TRK 702 will feature heated grips and seat, plus an LCD dashboard display and even an HD camera integrated into the nose section.

Revealed at the same time as the larger ‘9.5’, the MV Agusta Lucky Explorer 5.5 is also due to hit the road at some stage this year.

Though the two models share similar design themes, unlike the larger 9.5 - which has been developed on an all-new platform and comes with the firm’s latest triple-cylinder engine - the Lucky Explorer 5.5 is based on the Benelli TRK 502, Italy’s best-selling motorcycle.

Designed to give MV Agusta - considered one of motorcycling’s most affluent, premium brands - a foothold in a more affordable market space, the Lucky Explorer 5.5 offsets its more rudimentary underpinnings with more attractive styling.

It is yet to be confirmed whether the MV Agusta Lucky Explorer 5.5 will be made available in the UK.

CFMoto 800MT Explorer

  • Engine: 799cc, Parallel Twin
  • Power: 90bhp
  • Torque: 75Nm@8000rpm
  • Weight: 231Kg

Husqvarna isn’t the only KTM-affiliated brand to be launching a more adventurous version of its large off-roader, with CFMoto - which manufacturers engines for KTM - also getting in on the act with the 800MT Explorer.

Built on the discontinued-now-resurrected KTM 790 Adventure platform, the CFMoto 800MT Explorer sits above the Touring in the line-up and gets multi-spoke wire wheels, tweaked traction control, RDS rear radar and MMI display.

Voge 900 DS

  • Engine : 895cc, Parallel Twin
  • Power: 97bhp
  • Torque: TBA
  • Weight: TBA
  • On Sale : Summer '23

Having landed over here in 2021 with a range of modest, value-orientated mid-size options, ambitious Chinese firm Voge will step things up in 2023 with a wave of new models led by the Voge 900 DS.

Sitting above the 650 DSX, if the Voge 900 DS looks strikingly similar to the BMW F 850 GS, then this is no coincidence since Loncin - Voge’s parent company - is responsible for building engines for the German firm.

Borrowing various parts - including the 895cc engine from the F 900 R/XR - and switchgear from the BMW parts bin, the Voge 900 DS is expected to be one of the cheaper options in the segment too.

Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello

  • Price: from £13500
  • Engine: 1042cc, V- Twin
  • Power: 115bhp
  • Torque: 105Nm@6750rpm
  • Weight: 233Kg
  • Seat Height : 815mm

New Moto Guzzi models don’t come around all that often, so the launch of the all-new Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello is rather a big deal.

Another step into a more contemporary-angled future for the classic Italian firm, the V100 Mandello presents itself as a Sports Tourer with a Sportsbike alter ego.

Handsome styling, exquisite attention to detail and punchy performance on the road makes the V100 Mandello an exotic choice among comparatively bland rivals, though it is pricey starting at £13,500.

Energica Experia

  • Price: from £25990
  • Engine: 22.5kWh Electric Motor
  • Power: 101bhp
  • Torque: 115Nm
  • Seat Height: 847mm

If the Zero DSR/X is taking electric motorcycles further off-road than they have ever been before, then the Energica Experia’s objective is to take EVs further along the road than ever before.

Another convincing argument that an electric future might not be all that bad, the Experia goes a long way to dispelling misplaced notions that you can’t travel far on a single charge with the company claiming a combined range of 153 miles, rising to 260 miles in urban environments.

You’ll need to crunch the numbers to find out if your annual mileage will offset the hefty £27,790 price tag, but if it makes economic sense and would rather the planet survived for future generations, then you’ll find plenty of appeal in the Experia’s sporty dynamics, handsome styling and generous kit levels.

Yamaha Tracer 9 GT

  • Price: from £14900
  • Engine: 890cc, Parallel Triple
  • Power: 117bhp
  • Torque: 93Nm@7000rpm
  • Weight: 223Kg
  • Seat Height: 820-835mm

The Yamaha Tracer 9 has been the standard setting mid-to-large sports tourer for a couple of years now, its blend of comfort, practicality and quality making it an understated hit with buyers.

With new rivals emerging from all corners to challenge its crown, Yamaha has added a new Tracer 9 GT+ flagship to its range boasting a new 7” TFT display with smartphone integration, more ergonomic switchgear and better adjustment for the seat.

More interesting, however, is its clever new radar-assisted Adaptive Cruise Control which acts as an extra few pairs of eyes to alert you of any potential hazards around you. If it does, then Yamaha’s new Unified Brake System will help you react quicker to it.

Yamaha Niken GT

  • Price: from £16200
  • Power: 113bhp
  • Torque: 90Nm@6500rpm
  • Weight : 270Kg

The Tracer 9’s quirky three-wheeled cousin - the Yamaha Niken GT - is brought back in towards the family range with an upgrade to the latest 890cc three-cylinder engine.

Beyond the changes under that wacky skin, the 2023 Yamaha Niken GT also gets a host of electronic upgrades, a new seat design, a fresh 7” TFT display and heated grips as standard.

Pitched as a true ‘Grand Touring’ motorcycle, sales of the niche Niken GT will continue to be won or lost on its strange ‘two front, one rear wheel’ set-up and subsequent oddball appearance, not to mention its lofty £16,200 price tag.

BMW R 1300 GS & GS Adventure

  • Launch: Mid-to-late 2023 (est)

Arguably the most anticipated new launch of 2023, the successors for Europe’s best-selling motorcycles - the BMW R 1250 GS and BMW R 1250 GS Adventure - are due to be unveiled at some stage in 2023.

Expected to become known by the R 1300 prefix, BMW has kept details of the latest generation models very much a secret, not least a firm idea of when exactly we will get to see them for the first time.

To say the R 1300 is an important model for BMW would be an understatement - a perennial best-seller in multiple nations, BMW cannot afford to get the R 1300 wrong, which might explain why it has been undergoing rigorous development since 2020.

With competition in the Sports Tourer and Adventure segments getting tougher all the time, they can’t come soon enough.

Royal Enfield Himalayan 450

Royal Enfield have been burning the midnight oil in recent months following the quick succession launches of the Scram 411, Hunter 350 and - most recenrlty - the Super Meteor 650.

It’s a tempo it is set to continue deep into 2023 with the launch of the keenly-anticipated Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 , to sit above the much-loved, albeit ageing Himalayan 411.

Following Royal Enfield’s recent trend of pushing its models more upmarket, the Himalayan 450 is set to be more of a honed off-roader to take on the KTM 390 Adventure. Debuting a new 450cc platform - which will also spawn a Scram version - the Himalayan 450 might now finally come with the grunt to wade through the mud and actually climb the Himalayas..

Can-Am Origin

  • Launch: 2024-2025 (est)

Can-Am becomes the latest mothballed brand to make a big comeback as Canadian owners BRP (Bombardier) look to upstage American rivals Livewire with a fresh range of funky-looking, electric powered models.

Though still a couple of years away from hitting the road, Can-Am has already presented two models in concept form - the Pulse naked and the Origin ADV [above]. Bearing more than a passing resemblance to the Husqvarna Norden 901, the dual-sport Can-Am Origin draws on the firm’s reputation for building some of the best motocross bikes of the 1970/80s.

Brixton Storr

  • Launch: 2024 (est)

Evidently, the Norden 901 has a lot to answer for based on the Can-Am Origin and this, the Brixton Storr 500 , which also borrows heavily from its Swedish counterpart.

If you haven’t heard of Brixton before, don’t let its south London hamlet namesake fool you, for it in fact originates from Austria (which might explain the Husqvarna-KTM vibes) and offers a number of retro-themed models constructed in China.

However, the Storr concept - revealed at EICMA - represents its first steer into a more contemporary market space and, if it doesn’t tone down the looks too much, it could be onto a winner with this distinctively rugged creation.
