SEASON 2 QUEENS

Aubrey Haive  is no stranger when it comes to being in front of the camera, already a budding actor and musical artiste, this fashion forward queen originally hails from Timaru, New Zealand (now based in Melbourne, VIC).Aubrey is relatively new to the artform of drag, first dabbling in 2020 – and during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. After recently moving to Melbourne, Aubrey found herself enduring one of the longest lockdowns in the world, however, she took this as an opportunity to practise her make-up and develop a drag aesthetic with the encouragement of her partner. it wasn’t long until Aubrey made her debut, and when she did – she made a real impact on the Melbourne drag scene. Aubrey is now booking gigs left right and centre, and her dream of doing drag as a full-time career is coming to fruition.

Beverly Kills started doing drag within just a few months of turning eighteen. After entering a local drag competition, Beverly managed to take out first prize and within a year she secured a weekly residency at one of Australia’s most renowned nightclubs, Fluffy (Brisbane) – which is no small feat for a new queen on the scene. Since then, Beverly has established herself as one of Brisbane’s most noted up-and-coming drag performers. Not just a pretty face, Beverly Kills offers something a little extra with her burlesque and sideshow style performances in which you can expect a good whipping, or even some fire breathing!

Faux Fur has been a regular face, and the loudest voice, among the Sydney Drag scene for the last seven years. Few Queens in Sydney can rival the on-stage presence of Faux, known for her high energy performances that leave the crowds screaming for more. Faux has always been proud of her Asian heritage and noted the lack of Asian Queens in the Sydney scene. In 2020 she started her popular weekly IGTV show ‘Faux Mondays’, a platform where she strives to give not only other Queens, but all members of the Queer and POC Queer community, a voice to share their stories in the hope of inspiring others. Whether hosting an awards night as emcee or simply killing it on stage at the club, Faux is a Queen with the biggest of hearts that aims to touch and uplift others in all she does.

Hannah Conda: After conquering the Perth drag scene, Hannah Conda took a leap of faith and made her way to Sydney in 2015. Here, she cemented her drag status by being the only queen to have ever won both ‘Rising Star’ and ‘Entertainer of the Year’ at the Drag Industry Variety Awards (DIVAs) all in the same year (2016). Hannah has been a featured face numerous times at many iconic Sydney Mardi Gras Events, opened for Bianca Del Rio on her Australian tour and even made the journey across the pond to appear at RuPaul’s Drag Con in Los Angeles. As well as being an award-winning entertainer, Hannah co-founded ‘Drag Storytime’ in 2016, an initiative whereby reading to young children while in drag helps to educate them about inclusion, acceptance and love – as well as allowing them to dream big and use their imaginations. Hannah has had a string of silver screen appearances, most notably on an episode of ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’ (Season 11) and on Netflix’s ‘Jack Whitehall: Travels With My Father’ (Series 4).

Kween Kong is originally from New Zealand, and of Tongan and Samoan heritage, currently residing in Adelaide SA. Known for her powerhouse performances; Kween is a renowned dancer and choreographer within the queer community, frequently touring internationally with the Australian Dance Theatre. At just sixteen years old she was offered a two-year apprenticeship with Black Grace (one of New Zealand’s leading contemporary dance companies). Kween is also the matriarch of Haus of Kong; a drag collective that aims to change the lives of its young recruits both on and off the stage. In 2019, Kween won the title of ‘Miss Drag Nation’ Australia, representing Adelaide SA. Minnie Cooper is considered drag royalty among the Sydney circuit, with a glittering career that spans over twenty years and having entertained audiences from Oxford Street in Sydney to Oxford circus in London. In 2016 Minnie was semi-finalist on ‘Australia’s Got Talent’ combining her drag and musical theatre talents. Minnie has performed for gay icons such as Cher at the 2018 Mardi Gras parade, and Kylie Minogue the following year. Minnie has won more DIVA awards (Drag Industry Variety Awards) than any other drag artist in Australia, including taking the title of ‘Entertainer of the Year’ four times, as well as winning ‘Sydney’s Favourite Drag Queen’ and ‘Choreographer of the Year’, just to name a few. In 2018, Minnie moved into the world of Cabaret with her one woman show ‘From Chorus Boy to Leading Lady’ which was the winner of ‘Best in Cabaret & Musical Theatre Award’ at the Sydney Fringe Festival in 2019. Minnie also appeared in the Netflix series ‘Jack Whitehall: Travels with My Father’ (Series 4).

Molly Poppinz originally made a name for herself in Vancouver after struggling to find the confidence to do drag in her hometown of Newcastle (NSW). Often referred as ‘The Thunder from Down Under’, Molly was embraced by the queer community in Canada, finally enabling her to find the assurance she needed to perform for the crowds. During her time away (2016-19), Molly worked as a full time drag performer, known for her fun and campy numbers, but also lending her talents as a Drag DJ, MC/Host, and live rapper. In 2018 Molly was crowned as Vancouver’s most ‘Fierce Queen’, receiving her award from Drag Race Alumni, Aja (Season 9 & All Stars 3). Arriving back in Australia in 2019, Molly found herself back in her hometown of Newcastle, which was still yet to offer any queer venues or safe spaces. This inspired Molly to cultivate her own shows in hopes of building a thriving drag community in Newcastle.

Pomara Fifth: Growing up in the suburbs of Western Sydney, Pomara Fifth always stayed true to herself and never let the bullies and naysayers keep her down for long. Thankfully her amazing mother and four sisters provided a very open home environment which nurtured her natural exuberance and love for performance. Pomara represents both First Nation and Māori queens. She has a reputation as being a versatile, multi-talented performer and host, first beginning her drag career in 2014. In 2018 Pomara won the coveted ‘Rising Star’ award at the DIVA Awards (Drag Industry Variety Awards) and worked for Netflix on their Mardi Gras float that same year. Pomara has gone on to work for numerous companies and has performed all around NSW, working corporate events and entertaining the masses at drag brunch, bingo… you name it!

Spankie Jackzon is a New Zealand drag performer best known for competing on original Kiwi series House of Drag (Season 2), where she came in as an intruder in Episode 4 and was eventually crowned as the winner, taking home the 10k cash prize. With over fifteen years of experience, twelve of which were spent amongst Melbourne’s competitive drag scene, this Palmerston North (NZ) queen admits she isn’t here to play games as she vies to take another crown. Spankie Jackzon is the official host and roving reporter of The Wellington International Pride Parade, bringing drag to small towns across Aotearoa. With buckets of charisma, a vivacious personality and cheeky sense humour, Spankie has it all covered!

Yuri Guaii: Starting out at the age of eighteen, Yuri Guaii has been doing drag for going on eight years, however making her start on the Auckland drag scene was not easy ground to break. Despite spending six months developing her make-up and sewing skills within the confines of her bedroom, Yuri was known for her spooky aesthetic which only got her booked for gigs taking place on Halloween. Yuri really had to try hard to get herself out of the “spooky girl” box – and that she did – now living up to the reputation of being one of Auckland’s most talented drag make-up artists, and so it’s no surprise that she has finds herself here on the mainstage of RuPaul’s Drag Race to show the world what she’s made of. Having studied Fashion Design, Yuri’s secret weapon is her sewing skills and she’s known for creating all her own show-stopping drag looks.

Arriving back in Australia in 2019, Molly found herself back in her hometown of Newcastle, which was still yet to offer any queer venues or safe spaces. This inspired Molly to cultivate her own shows in hopes of building a thriving drag community in Newcastle.

Pomara Fifth : Growing up in the suburbs of Western Sydney, Pomara Fifth always stayed true to herself and never let the bullies and naysayers keep her down for long. Thankfully her amazing mother and four sisters provided a very open home environment which nurtured her natural exuberance and love for performance. Pomara represents both First Nation and Māori queens. She has a reputation as being a versatile, multi-talented performer and host, first beginning her drag career in 2014. In 2018 Pomara won the coveted ‘Rising Star’ award at the DIVA Awards ( Drag Industry Variety Awards ) and worked for Netflix on their Mardi Gras float that same year. Pomara has gone on to work for numerous companies and has performed all around NSW, working corporate events and entertaining the masses at drag brunch, bingo… you name it!

Spankie Jackzon : Spankie Jackzon is a New Zealand drag performer best known for competing on original Kiwi series House of Drag (Season 2), where she came in as an intruder in Episode 4 and was eventually crowned as the winner, taking home the 10k cash prize. With over fifteen years of experience, twelve of which were spent amongst Melbourne’s competitive drag scene, this Palmerston North (NZ) queen admits she isn’t here to play games as she vies to take another crown. Spankie Jackzon is the official host and roving reporter of The Wellington International Pride Parade , bringing drag to small towns across Aotearoa. With buckets of charisma, a vivacious personality and cheeky sense humour, Spankie has it all covered!

Yuri Guaii : Starting out at the age of eighteen, Yuri Guaii has been doing drag for going on eight years, however making her start on the Auckland drag scene was not easy ground to break.

Rupaul's Drag Race Werq The World

Time Out says

The queens of hit reality show RuPaul’s Drag Race are headed to Melbourne

After a huge US tour, RuPaul’s Drag Race stars will be returning to our shores for a huge live show in February. The Werq the World Tour will be hosted by Michelle Visage and will no doubt feature some sickening performances by some of the show’s most popular (and most unforgettable) queens, including season four winner Sharon Needles , season seven winner Violet Chachki , all-star Detox and season ten runner-ups Asia O’Hara , Eureka and Kameron Michaels . Expect plenty of sass, as well as  some never-before-seen looks and OTT production numbers.

The long-awaited local version of the hit series is taking its ten contestants on the road.

'RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under' Is Sashaying Its Way Around Australia This Spring

Twelve years after RuPaul's Drag Race first sashayed its way onto US television, viewers Down Under have finally been gifted a local version. Currently streaming via Stan, RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under is exactly what it sounds like — the hit series, still hosted by RuPaul, but featuring Australian and New Zealand drag queens. And, if you'd like to see more of this year's competitors, you'll be able to head along to the program's new live stage show.

All ten of this year's drag queens will be hitting up Sydney's Hordern Pavilion, Melbourne's Palais Theatre, Perth's Crown Theatre, Brisbane's QPAC and Canberra's Canberra Theatre as part of RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under Live on Stage . It too is rather self-explanatory, and it'll obviously have quite the cast when it hits the road this September.

If you've been watching the TV series, you'll already know which contenders have been strutting their stuff for drag supremacy. The lineup spans seven Australians and three New Zealanders, including Art Simone from Geelong, Melbourne's Karen from Finance, and Sydney's Coco Jumbo, Etecetera Etcetera and Maxi Shield. Newcastle's Jojo Zaho and Perth's Scarlet Adams round out the Aussie queens, while Auckland's Kita Mean, Anita Wigl'it and Elektra Shock comprise the NZ contingent.

RUPAUL'S DRAG RACE DOWN UNDER LIVE ON STAGE TOUR DATES:

Saturday, September 18 — Hordern Pavilion, Sydney Tuesday, September 21 — QPAC Concert Hall, Brisbane Thursday, September 23 — Crown Theatre, Perth Saturday, September 25 — The Palais, Melbourne Tuesday, September 28 — Canberra Theatre, Canberra

RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under Live on Stage will tour Australia from September 18–28. For further details —  and to buy pre-sale tickets from 12pm on Friday, May 21 and general tickets from 12pm on Monday, May 24 — head to the Live Nation website .

Rupaul's Drag Race Down Under: A guide to the Australian version of the drag queen reality TV competition

A group of colourful drag queens, the cast of RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under

Start your engines, because RuPaul's Drag Race is finally arriving in Australia and New Zealand this weekend.

The show — think America's Next Top Model but for drag queens — is a certified pop culture phenomenon and the most-awarded reality TV competition in Emmy history.

While the 13th season of the American iteration has just finished (all hail the reigning queen Symone), the original has spawned a gaggle of international offspring, including Thailand, Holland, the United Kingdom and Canada's Drag Race.

Now, RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under is joining the family.

Hold up, who is RuPaul?

RuPaul Charles is a singer, model, actor, author and drag queen.

He cut his teeth as a club kid in New York in the early 90s, vaulting to international fame when his hit single Supermodel came out at the end of 1992.

RuPaul briefly hosted an MTV talk show in the mid-90s with Michelle Visage , but Drag Race has propelled him to a new level of stardom.

What actually happens on the show?

Despite the name, nothing with cars.

In RuPaul's Drag Race, Ru sets out to find and crown America's " next drag superstar ".

Each week, the cast of drag queens compete in a range of challenges — acting, singing, sewing, dancing, stand-up — and walk the runway (past runway themes include 'Night of a Thousand Madonnas', 'Wigs on Wigs on Wigs' and 'Latex Extravaganza').

After Ru and his panel (including Visage) judge the queens, the two least impressive competitors of the week have one last chance to save themselves from elimination by lip-syncing for their lives .

A note: We recommend reading up on the queer and African American history of the slang featured in Drag Race.

The show started out as a low-budget affair (see: the first season's lighting) that premiered on Logo (a small, queer cable TV channel) in 2009, before evolving into a VH1 juggernaut with a cash prize of US$100,000 .

And while this is not RuPaul's best friend race , over the seasons the queens have shared stories — of homophobia, racism, addiction and other traumas — with groundbreaking candour.

Side note, what is drag?

Big question, reader!

When most people think of drag, they think of men performing female characters (queens) or women performing male characters (kings) — but drag is broader and more complex than that.

Drag historian Joe E. Jeffreys told Time : "Drag is a theatrical form. Drag is anytime that someone is putting on clothing that is considered to be not appropriate to them, and then wearing it with some type of ironic distance."

Speaking to Stop Everything! in 2019, before she was cast on Drag Race Down Under, Australian drag queen Karen From Finance said: "Drag first and foremost is about creating a character. And you could say 'performing gender'. I say 'gender is a character'. I perform a character ... It's about entertaining."

Drag queen art simone, a competitor in RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under

Another queen who was subsequently cast in the show, Art Simone, told Stop Everything!: "It really comes down to just being a fabulous personality that people appreciate. You don't have to look a certain way, if they relate to you ... that's what really matters."

Okay, so who is competing in Drag Race Down Under?

Seven drag queens from Australia and three from New Zealand.

Drag queen Jojo Zaho, a competitor in RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under

Who is hosting and judging?

Unlike some other international versions of the show, RuPaul is hosting the series.

Joining him on the judging panel are Drag Race veteran Michelle Visage and Australian comedian Rhys Nicholson .

Other guest stars set to appear in the series are popstars Kylie and Dannii Minogue and director Taika Waititi.

So is this simply the US show with Australian and New Zealander competitors and guests?

Not exactly.

Nicholson told RN Drive: "I feel like American drag is a very particular thing and ... because the show is so popular, it has become the idea of what drag is."

But he says Drag Race Down Under showcases the diversity of drag, as well as drag that's particular to Australia.

Nicholson told ABC Arts: "It's not as simple as a man dressed as a woman, or a woman dressed as a man, lip-syncing to a song. We do a more kind of character-based [drag here]."

Comedian Rhys Nicholson standing on the runway of RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under

Australia has its own history with drag, whether that's Black drag or The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

" The thong dress in Priscilla is a pretty perfect boil-down of what we do — it's crafty, it's high camp, it's a reference to something," says Nicholson.

Beyond the drag on display, Drag Race Down Under's challenges will also tap into our uniquely antipodean sensibilities, says the host.

But there's already been some drama?

Yes, RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under has already been marred by controversy.

Firstly, Scarlet Adams issued an apology after being called out by Aboriginal drag queen Felicia Foxx for Blackface and cultural appropriation.

Then Karen from Finance apologised for a racist tattoo (now covered) and doll collection (now disposed of).

When asked for comment by the ABC, Stan Publicity wrote: "There are no comments from production relating to the recent press around Scarlet/Karen. It will be addressed in the show ."

While we're here, the US show is not without its own controversies, including criticism over its treatment of drag queens of colour and trans competitors .

Who is this show for?

The fandom has changed and grown since Visage joined the show as a judge in season three, and has a legion of both queer and straight fans, young and old.

Visage told Stop Everything!: "I think it resonates with everyone because of one certain thing, and that's everyone is welcome."

Nicholson says: "As soon as something that a small community creates becomes mainstream, we start to go: 'Well, is it still our thing?'"

"And I would say, the amount of jokes in this show that go straight over straight people's heads ... [means] it is for us, and just [because it's] for everyone as well, doesn't mean it's not for us anymore."

When's the premiere and where can I watch it?

The first episode (of eight) of RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under drops  at 4:00pm AEST Saturday  on Stan .

I've watched the first episode and now I want more.

Of course you do.

While you wait for next week's episode, why not simply catch up on all 13 seasons of the original RuPaul's Drag Race (and its many other spinoffs) on Stan. If you're overwhelmed and not sure where to start, we recommend the glory years: seasons four to six.

Shane Jenek dressed as Courtney Act, staring straight into the camera.

Of course, there is a world of drag outside of RuPaul.

As an entree, check out documentaries Paris is Burning and The Queen (Netflix), and the TV show Pose (Binge).

And now that you've read this handy explainer, why not get out to your local gay bar and take in some live drag?

The finalists of RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under share their journeys on the show

As the Grand Finale of RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under approaches, we're taking a look back on the incredible season that the four finalist queens experienced — a celebration of the Aussie and Kiwi drag culture that Kita Mean, Art Simone, Karen From Finance and Scarlet Adams have been a part of.

Maxi Shield RuPuals Drag Race

9Entertainment caught up with the finalists to discuss their favourite moments from the show, and what they learned about themselves and their drag.

What was it like to represent Australasian drag on such an international scale?

Kita Mean: The whole thing was such a unique experience and it was so full of intense emotions that were changing by the second. It was so intense. You're just focused on what's right in front of you. A lot of pressure but also a lot of fun. While I was there you'd be reminded what was at stake here, but for the most part I kind of like would flip out of that and be like, yeah I'm having fun doing drag.

RELATED: Elektra Shock reflects on her RuPaul's Drag Race journey after elimination

Art Simone: I love Australia and I love Australian pop culture and I knew it was something that hadn't been delivered in the Drag Race fandom and I wanted to represent it. It's who I am! I'm the biggest bloody bogan in the world — and, it's like, I shouldn't be ashamed of that! You shouldn't tear me down because I'm leaning into my bogan tendencies. I feel like I've been saying it to a brick wall for the past six months. All these people overseas being like: "But I don't get it. What is Priscilla?" I'm like, "Ahhhhhhhh!"

rupaul tour australia

Karen From Finance: It's so boring when the queens say it's surreal. It's been a rollercoaster. But when I say surreal I mean it. It was only a couple of months ago that we filmed the show. It was only a couple of months ago that we got the call that we were going to do it and now to know that it's the finale and that it's almost all over and that I have a chance of winning this thing... It's wild.

RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under

Scarlet Adams: Coming from Perth, I think we have such an amazing wealth of performers, and to be able to represent them was such a huge honour for me because I wanted to showcase how amazing Perth's drag is.

What did you learn about yourself on your journey through Drag Race ?

Kita Mean: Everything seems so different when you're in the moment. Everything always seems bigger and heightened when you're actively in it. But in hindsight nothing in my life that seemed like the end of the world even seems 10 per cent as heavy as it is now that it was. Everything affects you to a degree but nothing is remotely as heavy as it is. You just need to push on through. It gets so much better.

RELATED: Eliminated RuPaul's Drag Race star Anita Wigl'it shares how she deals with tough times

Karen From Finance: Being on Drag Race really helped me process this which is amazing. I think that losing mum, I felt so much love leave my life and I think I pushed myself away from my family a bit because it was as if their love had gone as well. And that was all me and I totally own that now. We are definitely closer than we have been and a much tighter sort of family group and I just love them so dearly.

RuPual's Drag Race Down Under

Scarlet Adams: I think I learned to trust myself and my instincts. I learned that about halfway through. When you're listening to your gut you create magic, rather than listening to the voice in your head.

Did you have any favourite moments from the show?

Kita Mean: Just being there, doing drag on RuPaul's Drag Race . I started drag 11 years ago and soon after starting I discovered the first season of Drag Race . I was a very fresh baby queen when I discovered it and it seemed like something that would just be epically amazing to be a part of. That dream and that desire that I thought would never be a reality was always there as I watched it for the last 11 years. A show that I resonated wholeheartedly with it.

I truly believe that my whole make up mentally and physically is the best suited to be a drag performer. I don't necessarily believe in destiny and you're born to do this but I just think I'm so suited to it. To get a chance to do RuPaul's Drag Race is mindblowing and there's no best part because the whole thing is like a treat.

Art Simone: Well, Snatch Game was not a favourite, not that one. The reading challenge was super fun. I also — one of my absolute favourite weeks was the makeover challenge, because I got really close with my "baby drag queen". Jonah was so much so that I flew Jonah over to Melbourne to shoot with me and hang out for a weekend and get in drag again.

I made such a great connection with Jonah, and it was so refreshing having new energy in the workroom, and getting to know them, and we were so similar. So that was a really really fun week as well. I had so much fun with the makeover challenge.

Karen From Finance: Hands down it was [playing] Schapelle Corby [on Snatch Game]. That episode, when we were filming it, I had so much fun. And being in the bottom and lip syncing is not why you go on Drag Race but I felt like day I got the full Drag Race experience.

Even though I had fun I knew my costume was really boring and basic but I knew it early on so I knew I was going to be in the bottom. So I had time to process and think about it and live up to it. When Ru told me that I was up for elimination I was like, 'Let's get this party started'. I was kind of deliriously having the time of my life.

Scarlet Adams: I loved the dancing challenges where we wrote our own lyrics, and the talent showcases as well.

What was your favourite look to wear on the runway?

Kita Mean: Definitely I loved doing the challenge that I won. I've always loved monochromatic drag, all one colour or whatever. I loved seeing the two of us on stage and the fact that we also got to perform while we did it. I think costuming is all about what you do with it. We got to perform on stage while we presented that costume and I got to do it with Carl who I just had such a connection with during that experience. That's the look that stands out to me for sure.

RELATED: Coco Jumbo talks about her Drag Race elimination and her last-minute outfit idea

Art Simone: My Melbourne look was one of my absolute favourites — I think it was a great way to kick off the season. As well as my "best drag", but then the other thing — it was the most fun turning into Kath Day Knight and strutting down the runway. I was so excited when that finally got to air and then getting the responses from all the Kath and Kim lovers online. It was like, "Ooooh!"

rupaul tour australia

We went to so much effort. Like that jumper was a vintage jumper that we couldn't find a koala, so then we cut another vintage jumper up and sewed it together, and then added fluffy bits on. So much thought went into that thing because we just wanted it to be accurate and right and it was so funny watching people overseas comment on it — because they're like, "She's looks so basic! Why would you wear that on the runway! She's got this ugly wig and a jumper?" And I was like, "You people will never understand! This isn't for you!"

Karen From Finance: I've got two. My shark from the sea sickening runway is just one of the most campest most ridiculous things I've ever seen. It's just so much fun to wear. But also the poodle. The headpiece. There was no way I was going to Drag Race without at least one costume that didn't fit through the archway. It's so funny that we got to wear it. I actually put that headpiece on and I felt really sexy.

The queens of RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under are set to tour Australia

Scarlet Adams: It's a toss-up between the head piece and my ocean look as well, they're my absolute favourites. The fans online seemed to really love the bogan look from me... it's just the dumbest thing ever, I was basically wearing a giant good bag!

preview for 10 Most Iconic Lip Syncs RuPaul's Drag Race

RuPaul's Drag Race: UK vs The World has crowned the winner of season 2.

After eight weeks of challenges, Tia Kofi became the new queen of the world after competing against Hannah Conda, La Grande Dame and Marina Summers in Friday's (March 29) final.

Earlier in the episode, the first spin of the wheel saw Marina choose to lip sync against Hannah. Following a passionate performance to 'I'm Outta Love' by Anastacia, RuPaul declared Hannah as the winner of the battle.

La Grande Dame and Tia were next to face off and lip synced to 'Boogie 2nite' by Booty Luv, with Tia being sent through to the final smackdown.

The final lip sync of the season saw Hannah and Tia perform to dance classic 'Your Disco Needs You' by Kylie Minogue , before RuPaul declared Tia the "Queen of the Mothertucking World."

Following her win, Tia expressed how much the victory means to her: "It means the world to me to win, it's the perfect culmination of years of dedicating myself to drag and working hard at myself inside and outside.

"The one thing that watching the show taught me about myself was that even in hard times, I can still put a brave face on it.

"Aside from that, I feel like being the first winner of colour in the UK is game-changing. To give people who look like me that representation, it's really special, and something that I take extremely seriously. I want to be that beacon that shows we can all, no matter where we come from or what we look like, achieve our dreams."

Ahead of her international Drag Race victory, Tia made her debut on season 2 of RuPaul's Drag Race UK in 2021, with her memorable Rats: The Rusical performance establishing her as a fan-favourite queen.

RuPaul's Drag Race: UK vs The World can be streamed on BBC iPlayer in the UK and streams on WOW Presents Plus in the US.

Two-time ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ winner Jinkx Monsoon to headline Portland Pride

PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — Portland native and two-time “RuPaul’s Drag Race” champion Jinkx Monsoon will headline this summer’s pride festival.

Pride Northwest announced the drag superstar as the headliner for the 2024 Portland Pride Waterfront Festival and Parade on Thursday afternoon.

Authorities warn Washington County drivers of roadside jewelry scam

Hera Hoffer, the actor and singer who performs as Jinkx Monsoon, is best known for being the first contestant to win two seasons of the Emmy-Award-winning drag competition show. They took home the trophy in season five of the original series and season seven of “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars.”

Monsoon began their drag career in spaces like the Escape Night Club, an all-ages LGBTQ+ venue in Portland that closed at the end of 2016. More recently in 2023, they made their debut as Mama Morton in “Chicago” — becoming the first drag queen featured in a Broadway musical.

Last year, Monsoon was also announced as a main cast member in the upcoming “Doctor Who” series.

Pride NW said the 36-year-old performer both entertains audiences and educates them on social justice issues, making them the perfect headliner for this year’s festival.

“For 30 years, Pride Northwest, as coordinators of the Portland Pride Waterfront Festival and Parade, has endeavored to lift up and shine our spotlight on our region’s incredible LGBTQIA2S+ talent and contributions,” the organization said in a release. “We are excited and honored to welcome Jinkx home and to Pride!”

The 2024 festival — with the theme of “Feast and Love” — begins on Saturday, July 20. Monsoon will close the event on Sunday, July 21, taking the main stage.

The festival will also include exhibitor booths and the annual parade through the North Park Blocks.

“The Portland Pride Festival donation-based event is one of the largest donation-based LGBTQIA2S+ Pride celebrations on the west coast, attracting tens of thousands of visitors to Portland’s city core each year,” Pride NW said.
