A Review of Shinko 230 Tour Master Tires after 1000 Miles

As a motorcyclist, the tires are one of the most critical components of your bike. They play a crucial role in ensuring that you have a safe and comfortable ride.

However, with so many different brands and types of cruiser tires available in the market, it can be challenging to choose the right one that fits your budget and preferences.

This article will review the Shinko 230 Tour Master tires, which I installed on my 1986 VF700C V45 Magna.

But, the main question I will answer in this review will be: Is this the best cruiser tires for you? Let’s find out!

  • Aramid belted
  • Design for a quiet ride with excellent handling
  • Designed for long-distance, high-speed riding

The Shinko 230 Tour Master Tires

Shinko 230 Tour Master tires are budget-friendly tires that offer a good balance of performance and value for money.

They are designed to be suitable for long-distance and high-speed riding and come in a range of sizes to fit various motorcycles.

The tires feature a staggered tread design that provides a smooth, quiet ride with excellent handling characteristics.

Installation and Cost

I purchased both tires for less than $250 and had them installed for an additional $75 in shop labor.

This cost-effective option allowed me to save some money while still getting reliable tires.

Tire Sizing

For example, taking the numbers on a motorcycle tire , such as 110/80-17 , represents the tire’s size and dimensions. The first number, 110 , indicates the width of the tire in millimeters.

The second number, 80 , represents the aspect ratio, which is the height of the tire’s sidewall as a percentage of the tire’s width.

In this case, the sidewall height would be 80% of the tire’s width of 110mm, or 88mm . The last number, 17, indicates the diameter of the wheel rim in inches.

Therefore, a tire with the size 110/80-17 would have a width of 110mm, a sidewall height of 88mm, and would fit on a wheel rim with a diameter of 17 inches.

Performance after 1000 Miles

After 1000 miles of use, the Shinko 230 Tour Master tires have exceeded my expectations. Despite being budget-friendly, the tires have held up well and retained much of their tread life.

I was pleased to find the tires have not gone bald within the first 1000 miles, which is an excellent sign of their durability.

In terms of grip, the Shinko 230 Tour Master tires perform well, even in mildly wet conditions. During a rainy day, the tires provided me with excellent grip, which is crucial for safe riding. Overall, I am pleased with the performance of these tires and give them a thumbs up.

Features and Benefits

If you are looking for budget-friendly tires that offer good performance and value for money, the Shinko 230 Tour Master tires could be an excellent option for you.

Despite their low cost, they have proved to be durable, with good grip in wet conditions. The staggered tread design provides a smooth and quiet ride, making them ideal for long-distance riding.

If you are on a budget and want to save some money while still getting reliable tires, the Shinko 230 Tour Master tires could be the right choice for you.

This tire review is poised to detail the unique features of this impeccable blend of durability, safety, and performance.

With superior tread design that provides outstanding traction in both wet and dry conditions, the Shinko 230 Tour Master tires enable riders to navigate their motorcycles with a secure grip and effective handling.

Moreover, the tires’ belted construction bolsters structural strength and stability, which in turn smoothes out the ride and enhances tire longevity. Whether riding a Honda Shadow, Suzuki Intruder, or Kawasaki Vulcan, the Shinko 230 delivers a trusted ride and handling balance reminiscent of premium brands such as Dunlop and Bridgestone. Yet, the 230’s offer considerable advantages:

  • A softer tire compound that ensures good grip on various road surfaces
  • Balanced tread depth to mitigate road noise and deliver a smoother ride
  • Load-bearing design, capable of carrying heavy loads for long distances without hassening the rider’s experience
  • Bead construction that enhances tire longevity and maintains tread life
  • Optimal PSI rating that significantly reduces the chances of a wobble.

So before you jump back onto the asphalt, ensure that you’ve optimized your browser settings- specifically enabling javascript in your browser before proceeding. This will provide you with a better experience exploring the myriad benefits of the Shinko 230 Tour Master on related websites including RevZilla and Cycle Gear. Would definitely recommend getting the Shinko’s 230’s to upgrade your ride, even if the only missing pieces from your current setup are bald, older thread tires. The consistent good reviews exemplify the satisfaction and confidence riders place in the Shinko 230 Tour Master.

Features of Shinko 230 Tour Master Motorcycle Tire

Shinko 230 Tour Master motorcycle tire, also referred to as the Shinko Tour Master 230, is a premium product considered a popular choice among many riders. Crafted to offer impressive performance in wet or dry conditions, this quality tire appeals to cruiser bike enthusiasts as much as it does to those who prefer a sporty spin on their two-wheelers. The 230 tour master is designed to carry significant weight, complementing its robust construction that instills undeniable confidence in the rider. This tire’s excellent craftsmanship even extends to its groove design, which reduces wobble and promotes smooth rides on various road conditions, bringing smiles to those who enjoy the twisties, those daunting yet fun bending roads. What the Shinko tires offer is a blend of usability and value unmatched by the competition.

When riders fix the front tire with these gems, they notice not just improved road grip but also enhanced cruising comfort, especially when tackling the interstate. Those who have replaced their OEM or stock tires, such as Dunlops or Metzlers, with the Shinko 230 tires, testify to a noticeable increase in tread life and better mileage. Great reviews frequently highlight features like the tire’s soft compound that ensures reliable handling and performance, whether riding on a Goldwing or a VTX.

The rear 230 does not disappoint either, offering the same level of quality and comfort as the front counterpart. Shinkos are like the new tires that cyclists love to have, giving them the full biking experience.

So regardless of whether you’re riding a 1500 Aspencade or thriving in the 110 section, the Shinko 230 Tourmaster is a great tire worth considering. Detailed Review of the Shinko 230 Tour Master Rear Tire

Diving into an extensive review of the Shinko 230 Tour Master Rear Tire, it begins with the acknowledgement that what has been missing from a smooth, comfortable ride, whether touring or daily commuting, is the assurance of a dependable tire. The Tour Master stands as Shinko’s top-tier offering, designed specifically for the discerning rider’s expectations. Renowned for its innovative construction, it boasts a sturdy arc-shaped profile, providing efficiency of the highest standard while carrying substantial loads. The front and back tire pattern is commendably meticulously balanced, offering remarkable traction on a myriad of road conditions.

Yet, taking a closer look, one area that potentially stands as what’s broken with the Shinko 230 lies in its aversion to wet surfaces, an area that needs bolstered improvement. It can be quite a hassle when the tire loses its grip, making every ride feel like riding on thin ice. Durability may also be an area of concern. Some riders, after putting an estimated 10k miles on this tire, often remark about noticeable wear and a necessary upgrade. Regardless, do note that results may vary based on riding styles and habits.

Comparing Shinko 230 Tour Master Tires with Other Brands

Analyzing the market for motorcycle tires, Shinko 230 Tour Master tires distinctly stand out among their peers due to their exceptional design and performance. Shinko, a renowned brand in the industry, is known for its commitment to quality and innovation; this dedication is evident in the 230 Tour Master line. However, when compared to competitor brands, a few intriguing similarities and differences come to the fore. For example, although Shinko 230 Tour Masters and Metzeler ME888 tires both offer longevity and good grip, there’s an unmistakable difference in tread patterns, which directly affects traction and control – a crucial aspect that the ever run enthusiast riders will deeply appreciate.

Now, if your browser’s JavaScript is disabled, you might miss out on viewing some of the comprehensive comparisons often made available on retail websites. The importance of making an informed purchase decision cannot be overstated; therefore, enabling JavaScript will help you understand what’s missing in your comparison experience. Other brands such as Dunlop American Elite and Michelin Commander II are also worth considering. Their key points are:

  • Dunlop American Elite tires are recognized for their exclusive multi-tread rear tire technology, which provides impressive durability without compromising handling or ride quality.
  • -Michelin Commander II tires deliver unprecedented levels of dry grip, stability, and tread life, thanks to their square-bead sidewall design and Amplified Density Technology.

While Shinko 230 Tour Master tires efficiently balance cost-effectiveness and performance, understanding exactly how these other brands measure up can help riders make the most suitable choice for their specific biking needs.

shinko 230 tour master review

Shinko 230 Tour Master or Shinko 777?

  • Add to quote

Replacing the original Dunlop F24 front and K555 rear on my '99 VLX. 2800 miles first few years of its life, then parked for 7 years. I've put about 2,500 miles on it this past year and the age cracks are getting me concerned. Saw good reviews here on Shinkos, trying to narrow it down between the 230 and 777. Any recommendations? Do I need new tubes as well? Thanks!

shinko 230 tour master review

I would recommend getting new inner tubes and rim strips. Also, when I was looking at new tires, the Shinko 777's made my short list. But, in the end, decided to go with Avon tires.

shinko 230 tour master review

I just put a 777 on the front of mine, much better than the Dunflop that was on it. The rear will get a 777 next year. Sitting on my Shadow making vroom vroom noises. http://www.hondashadow.net/forum/me...6842-picture68314-aug-2017-new-front-tire.jpg

shinko 230 tour master review

777's Had 777's both front and back. Soft compound helped a lot with gripping while straight line hard braking or cornering. Rear lasted around 8k miles and changed it with another 777. Tread wear was a lot more towards the center while on specified psi. Front lasted 3k miles more until I had to change it because the bike developed a tank slapper and the shop said the front was out of round. It had a lot of tread still left. Replaced it last week with Michelin because that what the shop had.. For the price and quality, I would definitely recommend the 777. My overall experience has been very positive. On my old signature pic below, both tires are 777.

shinko 230 tour master review

i have recently put the 230s on my front and rear, my bike went from vague and mushy to riding on a rail. i like them quite a bit. DO factor in a tube set and idk, spoke strip i guess, i dint go with that myself. I love these tourmasters, prolly theeee best bang for the buck for this cruiser.

shinko 230 tour master review

I replaced Dunlops with 777 Whitewalls. It became a completely different bike with the Shinkos. Handling was vastly improved and the bike just feels much lighter, nimbler and doesn't track tar snakes or asphalt seams. I highly recommend them. I got mine from: SHINKO 777 CRUISER TIRES - American Motorcycle Tire Received them in less than a week. I bought the tires with new Pirelli tubes and rim strips. Make sure to do that.

ButchA said: I agree with DJ about the Shinko Tour Master 230. I have the front tire on mine (rear is still a (worn) Pirelli MT66), and will soon get the matching Tour Master 230 for the rear. It is an amazing tire and doesn't act all squirrely or follow rain channels or tar snakes on the roads. It holds tight in a curve too and, like DJ said, the Shinko Tour Masters are probably the best bang for the buck! Click to expand...

Had a 777 on the front last 13,500 miles and I be it could have done more. Only replaced because the Kenda rear was bald. Replaced both with a matching set of 230 Tour Masters about 2 months ago. Great tire in dry and wet, for the price I think they are stellar. I regularly spark my pegs through the twisties and these 230 tires do their part well. 110/90-19 & 170/80-15. Also note the 230's are V-Rated and my 777 was only H-rated.

shinko 230 tour master review

230 Tourmaster and 777's I just replaced my front tire with a 230 Tourmaster and I love it. Smooth and it sticks good in the curves. $68 at Chapperal Motorsports on Amazon. Back tire still good but next year i'm going with a 777 for the rear. My brother just replaced both tires on his 09 Aero with 777's and he loves em. Like night and day he says. $230 for both and tubes from Amazon and $100 to install locally, I think that is a dang good deal!

id like to add - avoid kendall kruz!

777's are awesome. Can't say about the 230,though I chose the 777's based on great reviews and a few bad ones of the 230's. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk

shinko 230 tour master review

I also just replaced both of my 2006 OEM Maxxis tires with Shinko 777's. I had looked at the Michelin Commander and Pilot, the Avon and the Shinko 777. The Shinkos, hands down, had the better ratings/reviews for handling wet or dry. Now have over 200 miles on them and it still thrills me when I point the bike, and it WANTS to go there! The old cracked, and worn in the middle tires, you had to force the bike to go around a corner... New tubes by Bridgestone. Re-used the spoke strips after removing them and cleaning the rim under them. Got the tires and tubes from Revzilla...

shinko 230 tour master review

I know this thread was started back in July of 2016 but since it was resurrected earlier this month I thought I'd chime in too..... I went with the Shinko Tourmasters on my 750ACE and absolutely love them. They are miles ahead of the stock Dunlops in terms of ride and looks, plus they were cheaper than the Dunlops. Can't comment on traction because I'm a a very tame rider and hardly ever push my limits to the extreme. Can't comment on how they'll wear either because I just had them installed a few months ago. Phil

My local independent motorcycle shop just quoted me $110 for the install. Is that within the normal range? Seemed high to me, but this is my first go-round with purchasing and mounting new tires. Thanks for all the comments!

That depends. Are you dropping of the bike and having them do all the work, then yes. If you are doing the work of removing the wheels from the bike and all they are doing is mounting the new rubber and balancing them, then this would be high. I just paid $35 to have my front rubber replaced. I brought them the tire, rim strip and inner tube, along with the wheel off the bike. Sitting on my Shadow making vroom vroom noises. http://www.hondashadow.net/forum/me...6842-picture68314-aug-2017-new-front-tire.jpg

For all the greatness of the Shinko price, performance, and lack longevity, you are going to pay install prices twice vs other brands that do as well @ 15,000 mi. longevity. Total cost per mile and not to mention the hassle of setting up appointments etc. $10 difference between Shinko 777 and Pirelli 66's size 170/80-15.

shinko 230 tour master review

This is what I was thinking. If you mount and balance the tires yourself, then the shorter life is not as big a deal, but if you are paying for the mount and balance, a longer lasting tire is a better deal, even if it does cost more. While I don't have a bike yet, the one I am looking at will need new tires. The Shinko name seems to come up as a good tire (both the 777 and 230), but the mileage (of the 777 it seems) compared to the Pirelli 66 does not seem to do as well, and the Pirelli are not all that much more than the Shinko. Have not seen a lot of mileage results of the 230 yet (still researching).

230's aren't any different in mileage if any on Shadows but have less satisfactory feedback. On Valk's, 6500 mi. tops but... $20 a set cheaper than Pirelli @ American Motorcycle Tire

Just changed out the rear Shinko 230 on my 1100 Shadow on Saturday with 11542 miles on it.
