Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Concerts May Last Longer Than You Think
The Red Tour, 1989 World Tour, and Reputation Stadium Tour clue us into the Eras Tour’s runtime.
Theoretically, Taylor Swift could perform for more than six hours on the Eras Tour and still not have time for many of the songs fans want to hear . Most Swifties would happily spend all night with her, but she does have other shows to perform and cities to get to, naturally leading fans to wonder how long will Eras Tour concerts actually be. Despite the name of her newest album Midnights , don’t expect Swift to perform until midnight — but the Eras Tour may be her longest show to date.
If Swift’s past tours are any indication, expect the Eras Tour concerts to be at least two hours long, which is about how much time the Red Tour, 1989 World Tour, and Reputation Stadium Tour shows lasted. On those treks, Swift usually hit the stage between 8:45 and 9:00 p.m., ensuring that the show would finish by 11:00 p.m.. With a 6:30 p.m. start time listed for all dates, and two opening acts at each show, it’s safe to expect a similar timeframe for the Eras Tour.
READ NEXT: The Eras Tour Setlist Is Finally Here
However, if this schedule obtained by an opening night attendee and posted by Twitter fan accounts is correct, Swift is actually adding a whole hour to her usual runtime. This means the Eras Tour will be over three hours long.
Swift does have a lot of ground to cover on this tour. She described the Eras Tour as “a journey through the musical eras of my career,” both past and present, meaning her setlist will include songs from all 10 of her albums. Making matters more complicated, Swift hasn’t toured her four newest albums: 2019’s Lover , 2020’s folklore and evermore , and 2022’s Midnights . Combined with her “From the Vault” tracks on the “Taylor’s Version” re-recordings of Fearless and Red , Swift has more than 100 new songs that she’s yet to perform live at all. There’s no way she can please everyone and play all of them, but a three-hour runtime would go a long way.
View on Instagram
Of course, if Swift brings out any surprise guests to perform that show will probably run a little longer. On the contrary, however, Swift has previously omitted certain songs from setlists prior to make room for said guests, especially on the Red and 1989 tours, so that’s not a guarantee.
Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour Is a 3-Hour Career-Spanning Victory Lap
By Waiss Aramesh
Waiss Aramesh
How do we measure the impact of a musician in 2023? Streams can be bought. Awards can be finessed. Is it when demand for show tickets leads to a congressional hearing about Ticketmaster’s policies? Or when flight attendants shout out a fanbase making a pilgrimage to see a tour opener? Or when TikToks of merch inspirations and setlist predictions rack up millions of views? Nearly a decade ago, a headline ran declaring ‘ Taylor Swift Is The Music Industry’ and those with even the slightest pulse on pop culture can tell she’s only grown more omnipresent since. It all led to a warm evening in Glendale, Arizona where months after delivering her most commercially-successful album to date, Midnights , Swift debuted a discography-spanning setlist that lasted over three hours and kicked off an aptly-named stadium run. The Eras Tour has arrived.
After night had fallen and GAYLE and Paramore revved the crowd up with a mix of recent chart-toppers (GAYLE’s “abcdefu”) and cultural anthems (Paramore’s “Misery Business”), it was time for the main event. At 7:57pm, a timer appeared on a massive screen prompting screams from all corners of State Farm Stadium. Lesley Gore’s “You Don’t Own Me” played as fans braced themselves for the arrival of Swift. When the timer hit 0:00, the house we’d seen in the “Lover” music video assembled on the screen, indicating that this evening was first and foremost about reviving the feelings each era evoked.
Editor’s picks
Every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term, the 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history.
It’s easy to compare one of Swift’s stadium shows to something you’d see on Broadway — never has that been more true than for The Eras Tour . The setlist is cut up into acts, grouped together by eras for each of Swift’s ten studio albums. For each era/act, Swift went full-send into that album’s look, feel, costume, color blocking, and more.
Many eras got a few songs. At one moment, it seemed like Swift’s soft spot for Folklore would mean we’d hear the entire album. On the opposite end, Speak Now ’s part of the show was short but impactful. Swift played only one song from her third studio album, “Enchanted,” while wearing a stunning floor-length ballroom gown designed by Nicole + Derr. Hopping from act to act, Swift made it extremely clear when she’s taking the audience out of one era and into another. This isn’t a hastily put together setlist with a vague thread of connective tissue — Swift is taking her audience on a nostalgic extravaganza.

Taylor Swift Dominates Entire Top 10 on Hot 100. Again
Taylor swift makes chart history with ‘the tortured poets department', how st. vincent unlocked her realest album yet.
For “The Man,” Swift completed her Versace look with a blazer and made sure everyone could see the red bottoms when she kicked her feet up on a conference room table as she delivered the masterfully written and scathing assessment of gender inequality in pop culture. Swift closed out the Lover era act with “You Need to Calm Down” and “The Archer,” the latter getting a beautifully stripped down rendition so Swift’s vocals echoed across the stadium: “Because all of my enemies started out friends / Help me hold onto you.”
At one point, as Swift ran through hits from her Fearless era, she flashed a smile and announced to the crowd that she was taking us back to high school with her. The nostalgia seeped into the show, resulting in some of the loudest crowd participation yet, especially from those old enough to have grown up with Swift and were in high school at the same time she was. The singer ran through “Fearless,” “You Belong With Me,” and “Love Story,” reminding us of a time when we discovered the pop phenomenon unbeknownst to the level of celebrity she’d achieve.
Something about Swift — she’s online. If the fact that she decided to end last night with the TikTok-friendly “Karma” doesn’t make that obvious enough, her joke about disliking Evermore hammers home the point.
Later on in the act reserved for her ninth studio album, in line with how theatrical the event was, Swift set up a beautiful dinner setting only to deliver a heart-wrenching rendition of “Tolerate It.” She also performed “Tis the Damn Season,” “Willow,” “Marjorie,” and “Champagne Problems,” giving fans a sizable taste of the Evermore live experience they weren’t able to receive when the project came out in 2020.
For the acts dedicated to Reputation and Red , fans were treated to a masterclass in visuals and hitmaking, two key elements that has assured Swift prolonged success for as long as she’s had it. The powerful, striking, snake motifs were an awesome callback for fans who attended the Reputation tour.
For Red , Swift went through “22,” “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” and “I Knew You Were Trouble. She closed out the act with a beautiful performance of the 10-minute “Taylor’s Version” of “All Too Well.” In the evening’s most ethereal moment, small white confetti made to look like snow blanketed the State Farm Stadium as she neared the end of her magnum opus, singing “Because in this city’s barren cold/I still remember the first fall of snow/And how it glistened how it fell/I remember it all too well.” Not only is Swift a savant for world-building, but she’s perfected the ability to translate those worlds into the live experience.
Swift wasn’t shy about making sure people got the full Folklore live experience. A makeshift cabin, not unlike the one made during Swift’s 2021 Grammys performance, sat on the stage with Swift perched on it during “Invisible String.” The star also discussed how she finally got comfortable crafting narratives for purely fictional characters, rather than ripping them from the headlines about her life.
1989’s era act turned the party up and restored the energy, with Swift donning a Roberto Cavalli top and skirt and going through “Style,” “Blank Space,” “Shake It Off,” “Wildest Dreams,” and “Bad Blood.”
To cap off the evening, Swift returned to Midnights , performing album highlights “Lavender Haze,” “Mastermind,” and more. It was hard to ignore the immense gratitude the singer continued to exude throughout the evening, with the “thank yous” coming more and more often the closer she got to the end.
Eventually, the singer asked the crowd if they had time for one more and launched into her finale, “Karma,” a track with a passionate chorus that’s begging to be scream-sung in a room of over 70,000 who’ve been waiting for this exact moment for years. Maybe it’s fitting that an artist who’s had more than her fair share of ups and downs, and at times has been the most polarizing musician alive, ends her stadium tour opener with a song about how she can finally protect her peace. Karma’s a relaxing thought, indeed.

All the old Taylors came to the phone Friday night at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. For the purposes of Taylor Swift ’s Eras Tour , these past personas are all very much alive, because what died didn’t stay dead, and… well, quoting lyrics will only get you so far in describing a show that may best first be characterized by its essential stats: 44 songs in 192 minutes. For anyone in her audience who hasn’t yet crossed the bridge into middle age, this show may be like having their lives flash before their eyes, at curfew-pushing length. The elders in their midst might just call it Springsteenian.
Popular on Variety
Given how schematic the overall concept is, there was a savviness to which album came at what point in the show, apparent only from thinking backwards from the finale. It made sense for the seven songs from the still hot-off-the-presses “Midnights” to be the last in the set — that album’s emphasis on heavy electronic programming directly preceded, for symmetry’s sake, by an acoustic-piano solo version of “Tim McGraw,” the sole pick from 2006’s “Taylor Swift.” It also made sense for the concert to kick off with a bunch of songs from the last album in a pure pop vein that is not the new one, “Lover,” to start the show. Swift considers the like-minded 2020 releases “Folklore” and “Evermore” to be separate “eras,” at least for the purposes of this outing, so their segments thus needed to be placed well apart in the setlist, less anyone spend too lengthy a single part of the show peering at forested backdrops. If her two most popular albums are “Fearless” and “1989,” one would need to be placed near the beginning and one almost at the end, for further bookending’s sake. And so on; since Swift is rarely one to explain herself any more via interviews, one does spend a lot of time wondering how the gears came to churn the way they do in something like this.
A certain type of fan might wish she would reinvent some of her catalog music for the purpose of touring, but the star who has rendered her “Taylor’s Version” renditions as exact soundalikes has never see arrangement-tweaking as much of a priority. Apart from the handful of solo songs, the music sounds almost exactly as it did on the records, even when it is freshly played by a band visible on either end of the widest big screen in the land. (Swift’s own pre-recorded stacked background vocals just about always blend in with what she and the backup singers are doing, as any listener will notice.) It’s reimagining the visuals that she cherishes, and to that end, there was no shortage of all-new production design, costuming and choreography.
Sometimes what is on the mega-Cinemascope screen directly mirrors what is happening on the stage, or the ramps, with a lot of foresight involved to capture exactly the right shots. When “Style” occurs late in the show, you get a backward-tracking shot of Swift and her eight-women-strong girl squad moving in a single line toward the camera, to the suitable-for-marching beat. In “My Tears Ricochet,” the song that she apparently wrote as a bitter elegy for the death of her relationship with Big Machine, those same women were seen on the ramp and on screen dressed in black, forming a very stylistic runway funeral procession.
At other times, there is freshly filmed studio footage to augment the live action: “Wildest Dream” has a sleeping Swift writhing alone on bedsheets; “Anti-Hero” comically imagines her as a 500-foot woman, wrecking a model cityscape like a mortified King Kong.
The most literal physical set is the cabin, complete with smoking chimney, that Swift sings from during the “Folklore” material, looking like something out of Frank Lloyd Wright’s philosophy of merging the indoor and outdoor, but with lots and lots of moss. (The green stuff has even taken over the piano she sits at for a while.) A few props pop up, although not many, as in “Blank Space,” when some of her dancers come out on what look like neon bicycles, and Swift herself takes up a glowing golf club, although, unlike in the music video, no actual physical vengeance is wreaked.
The real star of the show, design-wise, may be the giant building blocks that occasionally rise out of the center platform. Sometimes they just form an elevated place from which Swift and her crew can line up, as many as 15 strong, strike a pose. At other points they reassemble themselves, almost in Transformer style, to reform as staircases.
Technology is not something these many setpieces depend on to succeed, however. The visualization of “Tolerate It,” a number about a woman’s feelings of long-term emotional neglect, was played out with Swift standing on top of and eventually crawling across a dining room table of “Citizen Kane”-style length to literally get in the face of a disinterested partner. One of the most effective bits in the show — and, OK, the closest to overtly sexual — is during the latest album’s “Vigilante Shit,” when Swift and her dancers straddle wooden seats. As “Chicago” and other cabaret-style productions have shown, sometimes a chair is not just a chair.
One thing that’s changed in the last five years is one era-specific track going from being one of the least likely songs to show up live to it being the surest bet. “I don’t know if you can tell from the color blocking, but we are in the ‘Red’ era, currently,” she said, picking up an acoustic guitar as the rest of her crew took five. “The fact you embraced it the way you did when it came out in 2012… that blew me away, but I never could have imagined then what you would end up doing a decade later when I wanted to claim that album as my own. I wanted to play one more song from that album, if you have an extra 10 minutes to spare.” And the song that once only showed up in sets in the wild-card spot now took its place as now and probably forever the centerpiece of her set, even if “All Too Well (10 Minute Version)” did indeed take a slot that probably could have been filled with enough other mashups to take the song count closer to 50.
As much delight as there is in hearing a hit as mammoth as “You Belong With Me” or an album track as dramatically indelible as “Don’t Blame Me” again, this tour’s greatest value may be in finally giving an airing to the “Folklore”/”Evermore” nexus of contemplative material, with or without the chimney smoke. Swift seemed to take particular relish in introducing “Champagne Problems” into her live repertoire, saying that since she wrote it she’d imagined the crowd screaming a climactic passage along with her — a section that is one of those that would earn the show an R for language if it were a movie.
The show left some unanswered questions, like: Why only one song from “Speak Now,” “Enchanted”? Especially when that’s rumored as the next “Taylor’s Version” edition to be coming, that album made for a strange choice to be underrepresented. Yet the show is so overpacked as it is — with Swift going on at 8 and exiting at 11:12, there may have to be cuts made for future engagements unless she has the resources to pay some overtime fees. (She probably does.)
Hearing the clubby thump of the latest single, “Lavender Haze,” kick in as the show enters its tenth and final stretch was a kick, in a pop world where most veteran performers put their new material in the middle of a show, rather than the climax. But the “Midnights” album is still riding high as a top 10 staple five months after it came out — and it makes for a fun action finale, as it were, due to the fact that it has some of the snark and fiestiness that arose with “1989” and “Reputation” but took a back seat during the folkier albums.
The new album’s “Karma” couldn’t be a more unlikely choice for a final song — if you had this on your betting card as the number she would go out on, collect your million dollars — but it’s terrific hearing her choose an outlier song instead of an obvious or anthemic one to wrap things up. It’s redolent, actually, of how she ended the last tour with a similarly feisty and unexpected choice, “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things.” “Karma” seemed like a throwaway to some when “Midnights” first came out, but it holds up as not just kind of a funny eff-you — and her funniest song, which is saying a lot in a catalog that includes “Blank Space” — but also a celebration of the good guys winning. Which you’d have to say is part of the big picture here, when the person who has come up with the single greatest body of pop songwriting in the 21 st century is also its most popular performer. How did the stars align that way?
One side effect, though, of grouping the songs together by album is immediately recognizing and regretting which songs from that catalog didn’t make the cut. Is it possible for a show to last more than three hours and not only not quite feel like the marathon it is, but to actually “leave ‘em wanting more,” as the old show-biz maxim advises? It is.
“Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince” “Cruel Summer” “The Man” “You Need to Calm Down” “Lover” “The Archer” “Fearless “You Belong With Me” “Love Story” “Tis the Damn Season” “Willow” “Marjorie” “Champagne Problems” “Tolerate It” “…Ready for It?” “Delicate” “Don’t Blame Me” “Look What You Made Me Do” “Enchanted” “22” “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” “I Knew You Were Trouble” “All Too Well (10 Minute Version)” “Invisible String” “Betty” “The Last Great American Dynasty” “August”
“Illicit Affairs” “My Tears Ricochet” “Cardigan” “Style” “Blank Space” “Shake It Off” “Wildest Dreams” “Bad Blood” “Mirrorball” (solo acoustic — wild card slot) “Tim McGraw” (solo acoustic) “Lavender Haze” “Anti-Hero” “Midnight Rain” “Vigilante Shit” “Bejeweled” “Mastermind” “Karma”

A Grownup’s Guide to Taking Kids to Taylor Swift’s ‘The Eras Tour’
Be the coolest, most-prepared plus-one for the live show (or the movie) with our handy guide.
Chris Willman,
Taylor Swift is not just for teen girls anymore — there are such things as Grownup Swifties . About 58 percent of the audience for her current The Eras Tour are ages 35 to 64, while just 37 percent are 18 to 34, according to QuestionPro research company. The Los Angeles shows were filmed for a concert movie, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour , which broke first-day advance ticket sales records, could add yet another billion dollars to Swift’s tour sales, opens Oct. 13. Tickets to the movie cost $19.89 for adults, $13.13 for children and viewers over 60; it costs a bit more to see it in Imax and Dolby.
But what if you aren’t familiar with the titanic star who sings more than 40 songs from her 17-year career on the tour? And what if a young person you love has begged you to come along as a companion to see Swift live, and you’ve somehow managed to find tickets, which as of Aug. 15 cost an estimated average of $1,619 on resale markets? You’ll want to have fun at the show — and not just “Tolerate It,” to borrow the title of a tune Swift’s singing every night. So here’s what you need to know before you go — and it’s good to know even if you’re going to the film instead.

Wear comfortable shoes: You’ll need them
You thought only Bruce Springsteen did three-hour-plus sets? Swift, whose previous shows in 2018 topped out at about two hours, has upped the ante with sets that generally start at 9 p.m. and end around 11:15. But it’s not just her performance that is literally SRO. Most of the audience will be standing throughout two openers, the first of which has been known to take the stage at 6:25 p.m. (five minutes earlier, even, than the ticketed time). Sure, you can be that person who is the only one sitting down in an entire section — and there’s no shame in admitting your stamina has its limits — but having a nightlong view of someone else’s back also has its limits.
Do not let the Swifties in your party down by getting stuck in traffic
However long you think you need to budget to be in your stadium seats by 6:30? Now, add an hour on to that estimate. Actually, tag on 90 minutes. Take it from us: Even some of the very best-laid plans can still end with a half-seen Paramore set (they’re one of the opening acts). And just because you haven’t heard of MUNA , Beabadoobee or Girl in Red , some of the mostly female artists rotating through Swift’s opening slots, doesn’t mean that your companions for the evening aren’t half as excited to see them as they are Swift. Throw in bigger names like Phoebe Bridgers or HAIM and the importance of an early home departure leaves all the more room for possible disappointment if you insist: “Nah, we’ll be fine leaving at 5.”
If someone in your party is depending on in-person merch, by no means wait for the end of the show
You would think Taylor Swift merchandise stands would be so well-stocked that there’d be no danger of selling out. Wrong! At the opening shows in Arizona, “Sold Out” signs were tagged onto all sorts of items, with a notice that you could still order them at her online store. Even then, her website registered as being out of stock of many clothing items in the most popular sizes. The lines may look long as you’re entering the stadium, but it could end in disappointment if you bypass them then and think you’ll skip out during “Anti-Hero” to avoid the congestion. Better safe than sorry if there might be tears about going home without the coolest T-shirt. (P.S.: The only merch that is individualized by city is the posters, which have the venue and date stamped on them … but they’re not the most exciting tour prints we’ve ever seen.)

Remember, clear bags only
If you’ve been to a stadium concert or A-list sporting event lately, you’ll know this, but most Swift attendees probably haven’t been. So take heed: All the venues along the route won’t allow any bags inside the stadium that are bigger than a small clutch, unless they’re transparent. You do not want to do a high-speed forced march back to the car because you thought your purse was too gorgeous to count. As for cameras, anything that does not have a detachable lens should be good. (Bring the very best point-and-shoot with a zoom lens you can; even if you’re not into the music, you’ll find yourself being driven to document the show’s constant costume and production design changes anyway.)

If you are in the very back of the stadium, you probably think you have a bad seat — you don’t
Yes, for the beginning of the show, you might feel reliant on those huge LED screens to feel assured you’re in the same stadium as the star. But Swift and her dancers (and even the mobile members of her band) spend a lot of time on a long ramp that services the “back” side of the stage. The show has segments where she goes there and directs her performance to the very back of the house — including the coveted “surprise songs” segment. Lucky you! Anyway, the cinematography on those big screens is so terrific, it’s easy to feel like you’re getting the full action — or an IMAX-level representation of it — so you don’t have to worry about going home missing out on any intimacy.
If you tend to like Broadway, you’re probably going to like this show
We are about to give you a lot of information about set lists, because it’ll give you something to talk about with your companions, even if you’re not that personally invested. But rest assured that you don’t really have to have done a lot of research into Swift’s catalog to have a gas at these performances. Every few songs a major design change gives you new costuming, choreography or staging to experience. It’s the most action-packed three hours this side of the latest John Wick movie.
If you do like to come in prepared, though, you can download a set list ahead of time
When we attended Night 2 of the tour, we were surrounded by people checking the set list from Night 1 on their smartphones. Was it because they had to see how long it’d be till their favorite song was coming up? Measuring their physical strength against Swift’s remaining tunes? Checking to see if the penultimate song might be a good time to make an early exit and beat the parking lot jam? (Just for the record, the penultimate song is “Mastermind,” followed by a finale of “Karma.” And they’re both great.) Whatever the case may be, most of us are of an age where we like to have some kind of compass in all circumstances — and you can find yours in the set lists posted here .

The set list changes only a tiny amount every night — but it’s those variations that mean everything to the Swiftie
Each Swift show on this tour runs like clockwork, but with a divine bit of planned spontaneity. Of the 44 songs she plays, 42 will be entirely predictable, and two will be entirely unpredictable. The “surprise songs” come near the end of the show, when Swift comes out to the end of the ramps and turns to her acoustic guitar or a piano to play two songs she hasn’t played any other night on the tour … and the fans will lose it when those first chords hit and they finally find out which tunes have been pulled out for only them. You know you’re in the presence of a true Swiftie when they say after the show they wish they could follow the entire tour and sit through all 3 hours and 15 minutes every night, just to get all of the 100-plus one-time bonus tracks she will have performed by the time the tour wraps up in August. One P.S. on this point: Among the standard songs of the night, Swift has made what appears to be one permanent substitution, as of this writing. Starting with Night 5, she took out “Invisible String” as the 24th song in the show and substituted “The 1.” (If you don’t care about this life-changing set list alteration, someone in your camp will.)
The show follows a format unlike any other major tour in history
Even some of us with decades of concertgoing experience will have never seen a tour that segregates the entire set list album by album. And it works beautifully. The show opens with six songs from Lover (2019), followed by three from Fearless (2008), followed by five from Evermore (2020), followed by… well, you can look up those spoilers for yourself. That “Eras” moniker wasn’t just pulled out of a hat.
Are there any omissions Swifties will be complaining about on the walk back to the car?
Two albums get short shrift: her self-titled 2006 debut record and her 2010 album Speak Now, which has only the ballad “Enchanted” as part of in the set list each night. If you want to sound like an expert, suggest that maybe she’s reluctant to promote it because she’s been re-recording her old songs with updated “Taylor’s Version” renditions, and she hasn’t gotten to the Speak Now album — though you’ve heard rumors that’s the next one she’ll do.
Above all: Just give in
Resistance is futile … and fatuous! You don’t have to be under 40, or under 75, for that matter, to recognize that Swift is one of the great singer-songwriters of her generation — or, really, the ones above and below it. But that does involve some deep listening to the records that not everyone who has a preconceived notion about her generational appeal is willing to do. You can save discovering the albums for later, if you haven’t. Just enjoy this wildly entertaining show and let that soak in first. But, along the way, know that there’s a phenomenal amount of lyrical prowess waiting for you when you feel like taking a deep dive at home. As one of her many hits asks: “Are you ready for it?”
Variety music critic Chris Willman, formerly a Los Angeles Times , Entertainment Weekly , Billboard and Rolling Stone writer, won nine LA Press Club first-place honors and wrote Rednecks & Bluenecks: The Politics of Country Music, cited by Stephen King as one of the three best music books of all time.

Visualizing Taylor Swift Eras Tour's epic 44-song set list and tracking its surprise songs
The eras tour encompasses 44 songs across taylor swift's 10 albums over a three-hour set..
Taylor Swift opened The Eras Tour, her first tour concert since 2018 , on March 17 in Glendale, Arizona, which was temporarily, but officially, renamed Swift City for two days.
The tour runs through Aug. 9, and was originally slated for 52 shows across 20 U.S. cities. In June, Swift announced an additional show in Los Angeles for Aug. 7.
She also announced over 50 more shows for the international leg of the tour that will run from August of this year through August 2024, and take place in at least 18 countries.

Cities on the tour
Each of her shows ran for over three hours and included a 44-song set list. Of those 44, 42 songs were on the main set list and are expected to be played at every show. They include songs from nine of her 10 studio albums.
Songs from main set list by album in order they're played
And the remaining two songs on the 44-song setlist included two surprise songs that were unique to each show. As she explained on opening night before playing the track "mirrorball":
“The plan, the goal, would be to play different songs every single night and never repeat one. Right? So that when you heard one on this tour, you would know it’s the only time that I was going to play it in the acoustic set, unless – caveat – unless I mess it up so badly that I have to do it over again in some other city. Send your best wishes toward me that I don’t do that.”
Each show's surprise songs by album
Swift's discography includes 199 songs from her 10 studio albums, including vault tracks and tracks from deluxe editions, but not additional versions of songs. With 42 of those on the main set list, that leaves over 150 songs as possibilities for surprise songs on the tour, not including songs she's written that aren't on her studio albums.

Taylor Swift's Eras Tour: All the U.S. and international dates and opening acts
Taylor Swift opened the Eras Tour at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona — which rebranded itself as "Swift Cit y" for the March 17 and 18 concerts — with a triumphant return to live performance as the first act in the history of that venue to sell out two nights on the same tour.
By that point, she'd already broken the all-time record for most concert tickets sold by an artist in a single day and passed Madonna's Sticky & Sweet Tour as the highest-grossing tour in history by a female artist.
And Swift rose to the occasion , leading her band through a marathon 44-song set that lasted more than three hours while delivering on her promise of "a journey through all of my musical eras."
So what does she do for an encore? Here's where the Eras Tour is headed next, adding two surprise songs to the set at each show. Here's a look at what she's played so far .

If Taylor Swift is working overtime — three and a half hours per show, to be exact — on her blockbuster Eras Tour , then blame it on the Boss.
According to no less than Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen is responsible for this concert season’s trend of marathon shows — stretching three hours and beyond — put on by everyone from Swift and Beyoncé to the “Born to Run” rocker himself.
“I blame Bruce Springsteen,” McCartney, 80, joked about the New Jersey legend’s famously epic-length concerts , during a talk with Conan O’Brien at NYC’s Tribeca Performing Arts Center on Thursday night. “I told him so. I said, ‘It’s your fault!’
“He ruined it for everyone!” McCartney continued during the conversation, which was part of the Tribeca Festival. “He did! We used to do a half hour. That was, like, The Beatles’ thing — and we got paid for it.”
This summer, though, a half hour would barely cover one of the Eras — representing all 10 of Swift’s studio albums — on the “Shake It Off” singer’s titanic trek. And Swifties have even been resorting to buying adult diapers so that they can pee in their seats without missing one of the 210 minutes.
Meanwhile, another über-diva, Beyoncé, has been displaying endless energy for three hours on her “Renaissance” tour in Europe , before Beyfest hits home July 12. (She’s even put 11-year-old daughter Blue Ivy to work as a backup dancer, to help mama out.)
While jam bands like the Grateful Dead, Phish and Dead & Company have traditionally played lengthy shows, it’s new to see pop superstars such as Swift and Beyoncé perform for more than about two hours. No doubt they’re eager to give fans more for their money, as ticket prices skyrocket.
Some older rock acts are putting themselves to the endurance test too.
The Cure will deliver a mope-rock marathon made up of some 30 songs when they hit Madison Square Garden for three shows next week .
Considering that their 64-year-old frontman Robert Smith typically looks as if he barely wanted to get out of bed, that’s impressive.
Then, of course, Springsteen is still proving it all night at 73 — apparently no worse for wear after a well-publicized on-stage tumble in Amsterdam in May .
While he and the E Street Band are currently touring Europe, they’ll be back in the USA for some supersize stadium shows in August, with three MetLife dates starting on Aug. 30.
Many of these A-list acts are embarking on their first major tours since the pandemic, finally getting to play live all the music they released in the interim.
Clearly, the desire is there from the artists — and the demand is there from the fans. So let the music play on — and on.

The Eras Tour: The Intricate World-Building Behind Taylor Swift’s Most Ambitious Sets Ever
By Katherine McLaughlin
There’s a joke circling the internet following the opening weekend of Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour: look at any random collection of photos taken throughout the night—some even snapped mere minutes apart—and you’d never know they all came from the same show. What starts in a hazy pink, cotton candy dreamscape ends in a sultry, sparkling twilight—with plenty of undulating stops in the middle, from ethereal fairytale woods to the energetic skyscrapers of the concrete jungle. “[The stage] changed for almost every song, which is crazy to think about considering most artists have the same stage for their entire set list,” Maya Minocha, a fan who was at the opening weekend in Glendale, Arizona, tells AD.
Following the COVID-19-induced cancellation of Swift’s sixth headline tour, Lover Fest, in 2020, The Eras Tour is her triumphant return to live music. Three new albums and two rerecorded records later, the three-hour 44-song show recaps every era of her 17-year career in her most ambitious performance to date. “The sets absolutely made this possible,” Ginnie Low, who also attended the shows and runs the TikTok account The Thrifty Swiftie , says. “I didn’t move from my tiny little seat area the whole concert, but was transported to 10 different worlds.” Ariel Miranda , another concert-goer agrees. “It was such an immersive experience,” she says. With a distinct focus on world building, AD takes a look at the incredible set design that helps bring her music to life throughout the 52-date sold-out tour.
The Lover Era
Swift during the opening number of The Eras Tour
Swift opened the show with tracks off of her seventh studio album, Lover. “It was as if she picked up right from where she left off,” Miranda says. Having characterized the album with yellow, pink, and blue pastels, Swift—outfitted in a shimmering leotard—belted songs like “Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince” and “Cruel Summer” while dancers wielding billowing tapestries performed beneath a rosy glow.
Taylor Swift performs in front of the Lover House during The Eras Tour.
At one point in the Lover set, a familiar dollhouse-like home appeared behind Swift, which many fans recognize from the “Lover” music video. “The screen began flashing images that eventually would piece together to become the Lover House, which was a huge Easter egg,” Miranda adds. In the video, Swift and costar Christian Owens move through various colored rooms within a house in a snow globe. When the music video first dropped, fans theorized that each room represented one of her existing albums, and with the release of three new albums, many believe the home is now complete .

Other notable scenes from the Lover section of the show include a full-scale office cosplay moment during “The Man,” where Swift sings about the sexism she’s faced throughout her career.
The Fearless Era
Projects and stage lights provide a golden glow during the Fearless era.
Next up in the night, Swift performed three songs from her second album, Fearless, for which she won album of the year in 2010 at the Grammys (the youngest artist to ever win the accolade). Though she was certainly popular in country circles following her self-titled debut album, it was this second record that established her mainstream success. And not only did the singer bring back some classic circa 2009 dance moves , she also brought back a dazzling gold motif that she employed when promoting the album over a decade ago.
Taylor Swift with her bejeweled guitar
Outfitted in soft curls and sequins, Swift was often portrayed as the girl next door and an American sweetheart during this period. Though she did, at times, lean into this persona, fans remember her determination to be bold, strong, and, yes, fearless. The sparkles and shine acted as visual representation of this.
For fans, perhaps the most exciting Easter egg was a nod to the bedazzled guitar that she toured with during her Fearless era. In an Instagram story, Swift revealed that it was her parents who artfully stuck the shimmering crystals onto her acoustic guitar just days before The Eras Tour kicked off.
The Evermore Era
Taylor Swift performs songs from her ninth album, Evermore, at The Eras Tour.
“The most striking moment was as she transitioned from Fearless to Evermore ,” Low opines. “The woods grew out of the stage.” A sister album to her 2020 Folklore, Swift’s ninth album, Evermore, was positioned as a deeper exploration of the “folklorian woods,” a fictional, cottagecore-inspired place used to direct her first foray into indie folk music. Throughout this portion of the night, massive oak-like trees took center stage while Swift crooned behind a moss-covered piano.
Swift uses a moss-covered piano for songs during this set.
“I loved the Evermore era setup, particularly during her performance of ‘Willow,’” Miranda says. “It really made you feel like someone literally just picked you up and dropped you straight into this particular Taylor Swift album.” Sonically, Evermore was understood as a more gothic album compared to Folkore. The bare trees and snow covered woods represent that, and they also show Swift’s desire to strip back layers and portray innately raw, natural storytelling.
The Reputation Era
Swift stands atop a raised stage during the Reputation era of the concert.
Spawned from Swift’s 2016 public feud with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Reputation represented the singer’s reflection on fame and public perception and an opportunity to rewrite the “good girl” narrative she’d carried around for years. Though the album is often billed as defensive and reactive, it remains one of her most misunderstood collections: It’s also full of love songs and sweet moments. The dark stadium and blood red risers certainly support the most common perception of the album; however, it’s hard to miss the lit candles just below her. After all, it’s no coincidence burning is just as frequently used to describe rage and anger as it is passion and love.
The backup dancers pay homage to Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do” music video.
During “Look What You Made Me Do,” Swift’s backup dancers perform in doll boxes dressed in outfits inspired by previous looks she’s worn. The moment was a direct nod to the song’s music video , in which Swift reenacts various moments throughout her time in the public eye in an eruptive, Easter egg-filled video.
The Speak Now Era
Swift sings “Enchanted” during the Speak Now set.
Though Swift only performed one song from her third album, Speak Now —much to the disappointment of some fans—she made sure to make it count. The color purple defined the album’s aesthetic, and, though the shade is often associated with royalty, it can also symbolize ambition, power, and independence. Following her historic win at the Grammys for Fearless, Speak Now was a pivotal moment in her career. Could she keep up the pace or was she another teen star who lost momentum as they reached young adulthood? Not only did Swift deliver, she proved she could do it on her own: Speak Now was the first album she wrote entirely solo.
The Red Era
Taylor Swift wears an outfit nearly identical to one she wore in the “22” music video.
The original Red tour, which took place between 2013 and 2014, was her biggest at the time. It included a seven-piece band, fifteen dancers, multiple costume changes, as well as jumbotrons and multilevel stages. Though The Eras set certainly honored some of these larger-than-life moments from the first Red tour, it also showed considerable restraint.
Swift wears a sparkling red coat during an acoustic set.
During one particularly emotional moment, Swift sang the 10-minute version of her critically acclaimed “All Too Well” with just her acoustic guitar. However, this doesn’t mean it wasn’t exciting. “Even some of her slower songs like “All Too Well,” where it was just her and a guitar, had insane stage effects that you wouldn’t expect, like snow confetti falling across the stadium and the stage rising when she started singing a high note,” Minocha explains.
The Folklore Era
Taylor Swift on an A-frame during the Folklore set
“I was so obsessed with the Folklore set because it seemed like Taylor was living her best life in a little remote forest cabin even though some 60,000 people were watching her,” Minocha says of the A-frame cabin Swift brought on stage. (A version of this home was first seen in her 2021 Grammy’s performance .)
Swift wears an Alberta Ferretti dress during the Folklore set.
Thematically, Folklore explored a fictional woodland world Swift dreamed up during quarantine, and while a cabin certainly captures that aura, the choice of an A-frame specifically is notable. Because they were relatively cheap and easy to build, the style of home grew in popularity in the United States following World War II as vacation properties—an appropriate connection given the album is centered around an escapist fantasy.
A-frames also represented a unique moment for architects who, with little financial consequences at stake, were able to test out their more speculative creative ideations. In many ways, with lockdowns, limited promotion, and no obvious answer for how or if the music would be performed live, this is what Swift’s Folklore era represented too: the opportunity to explore, uninhibited . “I love that album and she really created this whole world for it,” Low adds, “Building the folklore cabin and bringing us all into that world with her was just so cool.”
The 1989 Era
The 1989 set of Swift’s Eras Tour
“Another thing that I loved about the stage design in general was how there were basically three different parts of it that all connected together: the main stage, the diamond stage, and the catwalk that led to the end of the stage,” Miranda says. “She really utilized each and every one of these sections of the stage at different times during the night.”
Swift and dancers wield golf clubs during “Blank Space.”
Though examples are abundant, a particularly creative use came during Swift’s 1989 set, a record which won Album of the Year at the Grammys in 2016. While performing “Blank Space” on the central diamond, the raised portion displayed a Shelby Cobra, which Swift and backup dancers “hit” with light-up golf clubs in a live reenactment of an iconic scene from the song’s music video.
The Midnights Era
During the final set of the show, Swift performs songs from her newest album, Midnights.
The non-stop show ended with cuts from Swift’s most recent album, Midnights, with the stage cast in dark light, representative of both the title of the album and the end of the concert. Standing firmly in the present, Midnights still has its roots in the past, since the album tells “the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life,” Swift explained in a Instagram post . It’s easy to follow the way the previous two-plus hours of sonic reflection—aided through the incredible set design—brought her to where she is now. As Minocha summarizes, “I’ve been to almost all of Taylor’s past tours and the stage and production has always been above and beyond, but because this one explores all the eras of her career, everything is just next level.”

How Is the Taylor Swift Eras Concert Movie Different From the Live Tour?
By Savannah Walsh
At times while watching Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour , it’s difficult to detect what separates Taylor Swift ’s concert film from her live show. Each beckon sequined Swifties to point their phones forward as they sing along to every word of the roughly 40-song set list. And both have become blockbusters —the sold-out Eras Tour nearly broke Ticketmaster , while its companion movie presold more than $100 million in tickets a week before its premiere, already passing Justin Bieber: Never Say Never as the highest-grossing concert-film debut.
But while some fans had hoped that Swift would change nothing in the transfer from stadium to screen, a few necessary changes have been made to shave the three-hour-and-15-minute concert into a still supersized two hours and 45 minutes. So where are the blank spaces, exactly?
Naturally, the costume changes have been condensed, as have intros such as the extended piano lead-in to “Tolerate It.” Others have been retained in all their symbolic glory, like the snakes that slither Swift into her Reputation era.
Five songs in total were cut from Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour: Swift’s 1989 hit “Wildest Dreams”; her performance of “No Body, No Crime” with opening act Haim; Lover ’s “The Archer”; Folklore ’s lead single, “Cardigan”; and Speak Now ’s “Long Live,” a track permanently added to the set list during Swift’s first show in Kansas City this July, which coincided with the release of Speak Now (Taylor’s Version).
I was in the audience that evening at Arrowhead Stadium, in which Swift unveiled the music video for Speak Now bonus track “I Can See You” and brought the video’s stars, Joey King and ex-boyfriend Taylor Lautner, onstage. Those Kansas City shows may also have been ground zero for her romance with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce , but there’s no trace of their budding romance in the film or any behind-the-scenes Easter eggs.
In fact, as filmed by director Sam Wrench, all three hours are devoted to Swift and her fans alone. No celebrity guests are shown, including the musical collaborators Swift has invited to perform with her onstage, like Jack Antonoff, Aaron Dessner, and Ice Spice; and neither are Swift’s performances with any of her opening acts, which included Gracie Abrams and Phoebe Bridgers, with whom she would often sing their duet “Nothing New.”
The concert was filmed during Swift’s six-night stint at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, a suburb of Los Angeles, back in August. There were a few song switches over the course of the Eras Tour’s first leg. “No Body, No Crime” replaced Evermore track “‘Tis the Damn Season” when Haim was opening for Swift during the SoFi shows, so that song is also missing. And Folklore ’s fate-brought-us-together track, “Invisible String,” was switched out for the rueful what-could-have-been ballad “The 1” after Swift’s split from longtime boyfriend Joe Alwyn was publicized, meaning the former track has also been scrapped from the movie.
Each night on the Eras Tour, Swift would select a pair of surprise songs to play for that crowd acoustically—one on the guitar and the other on the piano. While filming the concert movie, Swift performed six different surprise songs, such as “I Can See You,” “Maroon,” “You Are in Love,” and “Death by a Thousand Cuts.” But it’s “Our Song,” from her debut 2006 album, that’s played on the guitar in the movie, and “You’re on Your Own, Kid,” from her most recent album, Midnights, that gets the film’s piano slot. The latter song is also the one whose lyrics inspired Swifties ( and Kelce ) to make friendship bracelets for the tour.
Rest assured: Those looking to trade bracelets at their screenings are still likely to find a beaded accessory or two. And the fan anthem “Long Live” also plays over the end credits, in all its glory.

5 Things To Know Before Seeing Taylor Swift At “The Eras Tour”
Taylor Swift is touring for the first time since 2018 and has released four studio albums — Lover, Folklore, Evermore and Midnights — in the five years that followed her Reputation Stadium Tour. Swift announced The Eras Tour on Nov. 1, 2022, just weeks following the announcement of Midnights, her tenth studio album.
The timing of the announcements led some to believe that The Eras Tour would essentially become a Midnights-centric tour, but that wasn’t the case. Swift opened the tour on March 17 in Glendale, Arizona with a 44-track set list that spanned much of her discography to date.
Since a showing of The Eras Tour is a long concert bringing unprecedented fan turnout, you’ll have to consider different things than other concerts when preparing to see Swift on tour.
Wear Comfortable Shoes
The Eras Tour can extend beyond five hours in length when you consider openers, intermissions and Swift’s lengthy performance. Though exact total times will vary based on the openers and final set list at each venue, Swift’s typical set list runs roughly three hours and 13 minutes.
At the March 17 show in Glendale, fans remained on their feet for the entirety of the show, and other showings to date have displayed the same fan involvement. That’ll mean attendees will need to stand up to catch a glimpse of Swift for hours straight, most likely standing on concrete stadiums. To stay comfortable and avoid missing out, wear running shoes, quality sneakers or other sturdy shoes to the concert.
Don’t Stand In Line For The Merch Truck
The Eras Tour has brought incredible demand for tour merchandise, and some items have sold out at showings within minutes of gates opening. Though some merchandise items are available on Swift’s online store , others — like the highly-sought blue crewneck — are exclusive to the tour.
Gates typically open for 6:30 p.m. showings two hours before the scheduled start times. A large merchandise truck usually opens at noon, with lines forming even before that. Though people have suggested standing in line for the merch truck hours before entering the venue, that isn’t the best way to be successful.
Instead, wait in line after passing through the security checkpoint in front of the stadium’s gates. There are a multitude of merchandise stands inside the venue that have stock of all the most popular merchandise items. Waiting in front of the stadium gates will allow you to be the first to enter the venue, all but guaranteeing access to merchandise.
However, keep in mind that not all merchandise stands have the same items available. Be sure to glance at the red tapestry showcasing available items before getting in line to wait.
Bring Earplugs. Seriously.
A ton of people have suggested that concert-goers wear protective earplugs to The Eras Tour shows, and it’s easy to dismiss the idea. Of course, after paying hundreds of dollars to see Swift, attendees want to make sure they are enjoying the atmosphere to the fullest.
Regardless, people going to The Eras Tour should seriously consider wearing earplugs to the concert. It’s not necessarily to protect the wearer’s ears from the sound of Swift’s music — that sound level is about the same as other stadium concerts.
But not many other concerts have more than 70,000 people scream-singing lyrics at the top of their lungs for hours straight. Ever experienced ear pain because someone was screaming in your ear? That’s essentially what The Eras Tour can be, at times.
And yes, you’ll still be able to hear all of Swift’s stunning vocals while wearing ear protection.
Make A Clear Bag Plan Before You Go
Most people attending The Eras Tour will be going to stadiums near their home, and may have attended those venues previously. However, Swift has enacted her own bag policies that may differ from the stadium’s typical policies.
Generally, The Eras Tour has a stringent bag policy that requires all bags to be clear and not exceed 12” x 6” x 12” dimensions. A detailed list of prohibited items for Swift’s showing at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan can be found here , but check with your venue for the exact policy.
To make sure your items are in compliance, make a plan before leaving to ensure nothing gets thrown away at the security checkpoint. It’s important to purchase a clear bag in advance, because prices will be higher at and around the stadium on the day of the showing.
Ready Your Smartphone
The length of Eras Tour shows poses another problem, this time for your phone. Since the concert is upwards of five hours long — and attendees might have to travel before and after with their device — battery is a concern. To combat this, make sure phones are fully charged, low power mode is enabled and brightness is down when possible.
Consider purchasing a portable charger for the event and remember to bring the right cables for your device. This could extend a phone’s life by hours, depending on the portable charger.
For people that plan to record a lot of photos and videos of the concert, check how much storage is left on your smartphone. A photo can take up as many as 25 megabytes of storage, with videos taking up gigabytes of space based on their length. To free up space, upload media to the cloud, save it to a computer or delete unnecessary apps for the time being.
If you’re really in a pinch for space, Android users can utilize expanded storage with a microSD card or a USB-C flash drive. For iPhone users, the Sandisk iXpand flash drive can add up to 256 gigabytes of extra storage.
Enjoy The Show
After fighting tooth-and-nail for concert tickets, you’ve gotten the chance to see The Eras Tour, so follow these tips for the best experience.

However, given the record-breaking demand for tickets, it is very likely fans will be able to watch The Eras Tour on streaming services after its theatrical run ends.
You can choose to get notified by JustWatch when a streaming release date is announced by heading to Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour and hitting the notification bell.
How long is Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour?
While an Eras Tour concert typically lasts over three hours on average, the official length of the concert movie is 2 hours and 40 minutes. This makes it much longer than previous Taylor Swift concert movies, such as Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour which is 2 hours and 5 mins.
Who is the director of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour?
Grammy-nominated Sam Wrench is the director of the upcoming concert movie. He earned the coveted nomination for directing Billie Eilish Live At The O2 in 2023. Wrench is best known for his ability in capturing the electrifying essence of a live music event, having also worked on Lizzo: Live in Concert and BTS: Permission to Dance on Stage - LA . He boasts an impressive resume filled with projects from some of the biggest names in the industry including Mary J. Blige, The Weeknd, Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande.
What records did Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour break?
Taylor Swift just keeps adding to her impressive list of record-breaking achievements. The Eras Tour movie shattered the record for the most money made from advance ticket sales in a single day at AMC Theaters, raking in a whopping $26 million. This surpasses the previous record-holder, 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home , by $10 million. Fans achieved this record-breaking feat in just three hours, beating Avengers: Endgame 's record for the most tickets sold within the first 24 hours.
The Eras Tour movie is expected to have an incredible opening weekend, with a projected range of $100-125 million. The top five movies for the year's opening weekends include Barbie , The Super Mario Bros. Movie , Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse , Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania . These range between between $162 million to $106 million, which means the upcoming concert movie has the potential to have one of the best opening weekends of 2023.
Furthermore, the sudden announcement of the movie's release date caused other titles to change their release dates. The Exorcist: Believer , originally slated for the same day, will now premiere a week earlier. Producer Jason Blum playfully tweeted, "Look what you made me do. The Exorcist: Believer moves to 10/6/23.”
What are the other Taylor Swift concert movies?
For those who simply cannot calm down before the release of the movie, there have been a number of projects featuring exclusive access to Swift’s concerts that are available to watch right now. These include The 1989 World Tour Live, which was released on Apple Music in 2015, and 2018’s Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour which is available to stream on Netflix. There were also DVD releases of Taylor Swift: Journey to Fearless in 2010 and Speak Now World Tour – Live the following year.
Swifties alike must ultimately tolerate this Cruel wait with their Gorgeous Style they know Belongs to them. On the Bejeweled side, there are only a few weeks left before they are united by the greatest Love Story on the big screen: Taylor Swift with her Swifties. They are undeniably Ready For It.
Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour will be released in theaters on October 13, 2023.

The Eras Tour Was Taylor Swift’s Biggest Outing Yet, But It Was Far From Her First
City by city, song by song, Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour has quickly become of the highest-grossing (and buzziest) tours in music history. Spanning the entire length of Swift’s discography, Taylor honors each of her previous musical/aesthetic “eras” with a dedicated section on her setlist, allowing fans to relive the feeling of each album, if only for a moment.
But while the Eras Tour brings each album together on one mega-tour, it’s hardly the first time Taylor has been around, or even the first time she’s embarked on a stadium tour. From humble beginnings to sold-out shows across the globe, here’s a breakdown of all of Taylor Swift’s tours, in chronological order.
Fearless Tour
As most Swifties know, Taylor’s first album was a self-titled country pop record with singles like “Teardrops on My Guitar,” “Our Song,” and “Tim McGraw.” Taylor did tour during the release of Taylor Swift, but not as a headliner—she supported her first album by performing as an opening act for larger artists at the time like Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley, Faith Hill, and Keith Urban.
But while Taylor Swift was her first album, it wasn’t her first tour—that honor belongs to the Fearless Tour, which kicked off in April 2009 and ran through July 2010. The tour played a total of 105 shows (mostly across North America) including limited stops in Asia, Europe, and Australia. Kellie Pickler joined Taylor as an opening act, with artists like then-boyfriend John Mayer, Katy Perry, and Faith Hill appearing at certain performances as surprise guests. Though the tour didn’t get a concert film, Taylor Swift: Journey to Fearless was released as a 3-episode docuseries, documenting the behind-the-scenes of the tour.
Speak Now World Tour
Taylor’s first proper world tour, the Speak Now World Tour , began in February 2011 and featured a total of 111 performances, including seven in Asia and 12 in Europe. In addition to being her first world tour, Speak Now was also Taylor’s first stadium tour and featured more extensive set pieces, choreography, and costuming than the Fearless tour. Speak Now ‘s openers included NeedToBreathe, Hunter Hayes, and Hot Chelle Rae, and it was the first Taylor tour attended by yours truly. A concert film, Taylor Swift: Speak Now World Tour Live , was recorded to accompany the tour.
The Red Tour
Two years later, Taylor was back on the road with the Red Tour, which kicked off in March of 2013 and ran through June of 2014, with a total of 86 performances across the globe. In addition to continuing to bump up the tour’s production value through costuming, choreography, and set design, the Red tour also featured the introduction of surprise songs, which changed night-to-night. Certain Red tour dates also featured Taylor bringing out a surprise guest and singing one of their songs as a duet. Highlights of Red tour guests included Taylor singing “Jenny From the Block” with Jennifer Lopez, “You’re So Vain” with Carly Simon, and “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark” with Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump.
Unlike previous installments, there was no concert film version of the Red tour.
The 1989 World Tour
Following Red was the 1989 World Tour, beginning in May 2015 and ending December of the same year for a total of 85 shows. The 1989 World Tour featured the return of the Surprise Songs mechanic, and hosted Vance Joy, Shawn Mendes, Rae Morris, and Haim as opening acts. Haim would also go on to return as an opening act for the Eras Tour, as well as guest star in the Bejeweled music video and feature on an evermore track.
One of the tour stops in Sydney was recorded for a concert film version of the tour called The 1989 World Tour Live —prior to the Eras Tour, that Sydney performance held the record for Swift’s most-attended performance, with 75,980 Swifties in attendance.
Reputation Stadium Tour
Though Taylor had previously performed at plenty of stadiums on tour, the Reputation Stadium Tour was Swift’s first all-stadium tour, playing May through November of 2018 for a total of 53 shows—her shortest tour to date. Openers for reputation included Camila Cabello, Charli XCX, and Broods, some of whom would join Taylor during the set for “Shake it Off.” As with her previous tours, reputation featured surprise songs at each show and a number of surprise guests at certain performances, this time including Troye Sivan, Selena Gomez, and Niall Horan.
A performance in Arlington was recorded for a concert film called Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour , which was released by (but recently taken off of) Netflix. Fans speculate that reputation leaving Netflix could be related to the fact that Taylor has yet to re-record her masters for reputation .
A sixth tour, Lover Fest, was originally scheduled for April through August of 2020, but was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The tour would’ve featured Swift’s then-first performance in Brazil, and would also have been the first time Swift’s tour dates included stops at previously organized festivals. Because there was no tour, there’s no Lover concert film, but Swift did release City of Lover , a recording of a one-off concert in Paris, as a tv special in May of 2020.
The Eras Tour
Last but certainly not least is, of course, The Eras Tour , which is currently ongoing and kicked off in March of 2023. We’ve previously done a full breakdown of the Eras setlist, which features glimpses into all of Swift’s previous albums, but focuses most heavily on those she was unable to tour because of COVID— Lover, folklore, evermore, and Midnights. A concert film, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour , was released in theaters and is currently available to rent on streaming.

All the proof Taylor Swift is making first major change to Eras Tour
Welcome to "The Tortured Poets Department" (Eras Tour Version).
It looks like Taylor Swift 's Eras Tour is getting a brand new era, straight from the Tortured Poets Department .
Since the announcement of her new 11th studio album ( which dropped April 19 ), fans have been anxiously waiting to see if her worldwide, career-spanning tour would get a shakeup to accommodate the new music. While Swift is remaining mum, and a rep for the singer didn't respond to an EW request for comment, a new YouTube Short posted to Swift's account seems to provide all the clarity Swifties needed that a change is imminent.
In the video, which is part of Swift's #ForAFortnightChallenge tied to the album's first single, "Fortnight," the 14-time Grammy winner can be seen rehearsing for tour with her backup dancers. While some shots are obviously from the Folklore , Lover , and other existing "eras" of the show, several blink-and-you'll-miss-it moments have never been seen before.
In one, Swift, clad in workout gear, appears to be wearing the same boots seen in her "Fortnight" video . She's holding on to a banister that looks like it has the Tortured Poets Department emblem on it — the "P" and the "D" can just be made out.
taylor swift/youtube
Although the video is in grayscale, and therefore exact colors are impossible to identify for sure, several shots feature what looks like a new white-ish mic, which has never been seen before. The new era's color, of course, is also an off-white hue.
Perhaps the most interesting moment of the new clip, though, is one that features what looks like new choreography and costumes. Swift's backup dancers can be seen in top hats and dancing with canes, while she sings in the front middle of the group — choreography and props which have so far not been featured in the concert.
This is all speculative until the tour resumes in Paris, France, on May 9, of course, but if Swift is adding a whole new era, it would mark the first major change to the setlist since Swift began performing it last March.
Throughout the tour, she's made little swaps here or there: She added performances with some of the artists who opened for her like HAIM or Phoebe Bridgers, and she added "Long Live" to the Speak Now section when that re-recorded album released during tour. She also swapped out "Invisible String" for the "The 1" in the Folklore section after news of her split with Joe Alwyn broke.
But, nothing has majorly been added or subtracted from the show, which is already a whopping three-and-a-half hours long. Now, if anyone could pull off adding more runtime to Eras, it's the "Mastermind" herself, but it's more likely that some songs will be getting cut to make room for new material. Fans have theorized that the tracks that didn't make it into the VOD rental of the Eras Tour concert film — "The Archer," "Wildest Dreams," "Cardigan," and "Long Live" — could be first on the chopping block, but we'll just have to wait and see what Ms. Swift has up her cryptic and Machiavellian sleeve.

Leading up to the release of Taylor Swift ‘s The Tortured Poets Department , one question lingered in the backs of Swiftie minds for months: How would the new album affect the already three-hour-plus setlist of the pop star’s ongoing global Eras Tour?
When the record finally dropped April 19, bringing with it not just 16 pre-announced tracks, but 15 surprise bonus songs as well, their concerns were only exacerbated. How could Swift possibly slim down her pre- Tortured Poets setlist to fit any new material once she hit the road again? Where would she even begin selecting just a handful of the 31 songs on TTPD to include? Would she even bother trying? (Based on a video the singer posted of recent rehearsals for her next run of shows, which kicks off May 9 in Paris, the answer to that last question is most likely a “Yes.”)
It’s no small task, especially given that no matter what the “Anti-Hero” singer cuts or adds, some fans are bound to be upset when their favorites inevitably don’t make the final listing. Even so, Billboard has risen to the challenge, selecting the best possible collection of Tortured Poets tracks to represent Swift’s newest era while trimming the fat of past eras for an updated, ultimate dream Eras Tour setlist.
Some songs were hard to say good-bye to (sorry, “Mastermind”), and others were truly painful to not extend an invitation (don’t hate us, “Guilty as Sin?”). But in service of a well-rounded, comprehensive Eras experience, difficult decisions had to be made. Keep reading to see how Swift should move forward with her trek, Tortured Poets and all — plus, an idea on how her debut album Taylor Swift can finally get its flowers — below.
ACT I: 'Lover'
- “Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince”
- “Cruel Summer”
- “The Man”
- “You Need to Calm Down”
- “Lover”
CUT: “The Archer”
Note: Swift could also probably benefit from shortening her meandering pre-“The Man” monologue in Act I to save room for more songs later on.
ACT II: 'Fearless'
- “Fearless”
- “You Belong With Me”
- “Love Story”
Note: At three songs, the Fearless era is already the perfect length, holistically comprised of the album’s title track and its two breakthrough hits, which made Swift a global star. No room for cuts here.
ACT III: 'Evermore'
- “‘Tis the Damn Season”
- “Willow”
- “Champagne Problems”
- “Tolerate It”
CUT: “Marjorie”
Note: Swift definitely deserves to drink in the applause for a moment after her magnificent piano performance of “Champagne Problems,” but at past Eras shows, she’s allowed the ovations to last for upwards of eight minutes . To save room for more songs, she may want to keep things moving at future stops.
ACT IV: 'Reputation'
- “…Ready For It?”
- “Delicate”
- “Don’t Blame Me”
- “Look What You Made Me Do”
Note: If you’ve been to an Eras show, you know: There’s no messing with the Reputation set. The already ear-splitting crowd somehow gets even louder as soon as this first notes of “Ready For It” blast through the speakers, and the stadium stays at peak volume throughout the traditional “1, 2, 3, Let’s go b–ch” chant during “Delicate” and the seamless transition between “Don’t Blame Me” and “Look What You Made Me Do.” No cuts.
ACT V: 'Speak Now'
- “Enchanted”
- “Long Live”
Note: Justice for Speak Now . Swift’s third album deserves a proper showcase each night, so we sincerely hope that the pop star doesn’t scrap “Long Live” — which she only added to the setlist four months into the Eras Tour’s first leg — to make room for TTPD.
ACT VI: 'Red'
- “22”
- “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”
- “I Knew You Were Trouble”
- “All Too Well (10 Minute Version)”
Note: It may seem like an easy time-saver to simply swap out the ten-minute version of “All Too Well” for Swift’s original five-minute version, but doing so would be robbing Swifties of the best ten-minute segment in the entire show. We simply won’t hear of it. That song aside, the other three hits on this mini-set — similar to the Fearless era — form a perfect bite-sized capsule of the album they represent, leaving no excess behind.
ACT VII: 'Folklore'
- “Betty”
- “August”
- “Illicit Affairs” (Bridge Only)
- “My Tears Ricochet”
- “Cardigan”
CUTS: “The 1” / “Invisible String” & “The Last Great American Dynasty”
Note: Sorry, Folklorians: It’ll always have a special place at the heart of the Eras Tour show, but Swift has now released three new albums since her initial alt-folk pivot — hence the harsher cuts here.
ACT VIII: '1989'
- “Style”
- “Blank Space”
- “Shake It Off”
- “Wildest Dreams”
- “Bad Blood”
Note: It’s almost impossible to imagine cutting any of the five songs on the 1989 setlist, each of them massive, stadium-rocking hits a full ten years after their original release (three of them peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, while “Wildest Dreams” and “Style” reached Nos. 5 and 6, respectively). A time-saving mashup between two or more of them could, however, be an avenue to explore if needed, with a majority of the tracks boasting similar keys and corresponding musical styles.
INTERLUDE: Surprise Songs
- Surprise Song No. 1
- Surprise Song No. 2
Note: It’s safe to assume that the nightly surprise song section will be where Swift makes up for unused Tortured Poets songs, giving fans the chance to hear acoustic versions of the 20+ tracks on her newest album that probably won’t make it onto the regular setlist .
ACT IX: 'Midnights'
- “Lavender Haze”
- “Anti-Hero”
- “Vigilante Shit”
- “Bejeweled”
- “Karma”
CUTS: “Midnight Rain” & “Mastermind”
Note: The only non-single to remain safe, “Vigilante Shit” would’ve been next on the chopping block. But honestly — what would the Eras Tour be without Swift’s iconic sultry, Chicago -esque dance break?
ACT X: 'The Tortured Poets Department'
- “Fortnight”
- “The Tortured Poets Department”
- “Down Bad”
- “So Long, London”
- “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?”
- Mashup: “Teardrops on My Guitar” x “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart”
- “But Daddy I Love Him”
Note: As Swift’s newest album, Tortured Poets deserves to be the finale. And while, upon first listen, the record may not seem like it has enough stadium-ready bops to close out the show, the above songs 100% have the potential to be converted into the high-energy moments the Eras Tour commands. Just imagine the theatrical potential of “Who’s Afraid,” the meta-ness of a real-life crowd chanting “More!” during “Broken Heart,” and confetti falling from the sky during the final chorus of “But Daddy…” We picture gothic visuals, writing desks, typewriter props, period costumes and lightning strikes during this section.
Now, about that mashup. It’s absurd that Swift has never included any songs from her 2006 self-titled debut album — aka her first-ever era — on the main Eras Tour setlist. But it’s not too late to rectify that.
Picture this: The lights go down after Swift performs “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” Costumes change, a tiger cage and other circus-themed set pieces are wheeled away. Then, the songwriter — her silhouette barely visible under the dim glow of an aquamarine spotlight — sings a cappella the final chorus of the first song about faking smiles in the face of heartbreak she ever released: “Teardrops on My Guitar.” Emphasis on the lyric, “the only one who’s got enough of me to break my heart.”
After she trails off on the last line — “Drew looks at me, I fake a smile so he won’t see” — the stadium comes to life once more as the crowd’s multi-color light-up bracelets go haywire, an explosion of sound filling the space. “I can read your mind,” Swift jumps in, surrounded by dancers as the lights suddenly go up, revealing one last fabulous costume. “‘She’s having the time of her life…'”
Once that’s done, she’ll move on to the finale, flipping off the haters, embracing her truest fans and proudly proclaiming her love for the man of her dreams in one fell swoop with “But Daddy I Love Him,” disappearing offstage before concertgoers have even finished singing along. Fin.

Will taylor swift add the tortured poets department to the eras tour.
Taylor Swift is gearing up for her big return to the Eras Tour following her months-long break and the release of The Tortured Poets Department.
- Taylor Swift seems to be considering adding songs from "The Tortured Poets Department" to her Eras Tour.
- Fans speculate that one of Swift's YouTube Shorts displays new choreography and "The Tortured Poets Department" logo.
- Potential new songs like "Fortnight" or "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart" could fit into the extended Eras Tour lineup.
Taylor Swift 's global acclaim somehow keeps growing with each release, and with her latest record-breaking album, The Tortured Poets Department , many wonder if the singer will capitalize on its success and add any of its songs to the Eras Tour . The Eras Tour, Swift's sixth concert tour, features the artist performing 44 songs from nine of her albums in the span of three and a half hours. Swift embarked on the Eras Tour in March 2023 and will play her final show in December 2024 (unless she decides to add more dates).
Taylor Swift's last concert was on March 9, 2024, in Singapore, and she will resume the Eras Tour with her May 9th show in Paris.
After the Eras Tour became the highest-grossing tour ever, Swift released a concert film documenting the record-breaking experience in theaters and on Disney+. Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour became the highest-grossing concert film of all time, which didn't come as a shock to many, given Swift's recent string of achievements. Now that her eleventh studio album is also making waves following its debut on April 19, 2024, perhaps Swift will combine the two powers and add songs from The Tortured Poets Department to her setlist.
Taylor Swift Has Subtly Teased Adding The Tortured Poets Department To The Eras Tour Setlist
Swift's youtube short seemingly has hidden clues.
Taylor Swift is notorious for using Easter eggs and other clues to hint towards her future endeavors, and one of the singer's YouTube Shorts that she released following the debut of The Tortured Poets Department seemingly teases the album's addition to the Eras Tour setlist. The 15-second video includes footage from Eras Tour rehearsals, and some of Swift's choreography in the YouTube Short seemingly doesn't match up with any of the moves audiences had previously seen during the concert. The new choreography certainly implies Swift is adding new songs to the Eras Tour.
Additionally, eagle-eyed fans pointed out that one of the clips in the video shows Swift in front of a railing that appears to have The Tortured Poets Department 's "TTPD" logo on it. Of course, Swift's body covers most of it, so, one cannot confirm that it says "TTPD" until the next Eras Tour show. Even though the video is in grayscale, some also believe Swift is wielding a white microphone (she has yet to use) during some of the clips. Each Taylor Swift album has a color associated with it, and The Tortured Poets Department 's is white.
Taylor Swift's New Album Surprises Mean A Sequel To Her 4-Year-Old Disney Movie Has To Be Coming
Why adding the tortured poets department to the eras tour would make sense, the tortured poets department is a new era.
Typically, when an artist releases a new album, they go on a tour to promote said album, but Taylor Swift isn't a typical artist and the Eras Tour is not a run-of-the-mill tour. Each show features nine of Swift's different "eras," aka her albums. It starts with Lover and ends with Midnights , and it only makes sense if The Tortured Poets Department , Swift's new "era," has a place on the setlist following its release on April 19. So, fans shouldn't be shocked if and when a handful of songs from The Tortured Poets Department are added to the Eras Tour .
Which The Tortured Poets Department Songs Are Most Likely To Be Added To The Eras Tour?
Swift's new album has many songs that would fit into the eras tour.
The Tortured Poets Department (including tracks from Taylor Swift's The Anthology surprise addition to the album) features 31 songs, with "Fortnight," featuring Post Malone, serving as the record's first single. Consequently, if Swift is including songs from The Tortured Poets Department in her upcoming Eras Tour shows, "Fortnight" is all but a guarantee on the setlist (even if Post Malone will not be performing at every concert). "Down Bad," "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart," "The Tortured Poets Department," and "So, Long London" also have a good chance of making the cut.
If Swift cut some of the already-established songs from the Eras Tour, The Tortured Poets Department could find a place in the concert.
The aforementioned tracks are performing the best on the charts (even though all The Tortured Poets Department 's songs are doing exceptionally well), so, it would make sense to add them. Several of Swift's Track 5's are already on the setlist — "The Archer" from Lover , "Tolerate It" from Evermore , "Delicate" from Reputation , "All Too Well" from Red , and "My Tears Ricochet" from Folklore — so, "So Long, London" would be another obvious addition. Meanwhile, "Down Bad" and "The Tortured Poets Department" would sound good in a stadium setting, and "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart" references Swift's experience with the Eras Tour.
There Is Only 1 Thing Missing From Taylor Swift's Career After The Eras Tour Movie's Success
The problem with taylor swift adding the tortured poets department songs to the eras tour, the eras tour is already so long.
While adding songs from The Tortured Poets Department to the Eras Tour would be amazing, it would also be difficult to pull off. Taylor Swift already performs 44 songs in one show, bumping the concert's time to almost three and a half hours, and it would be unfeasible for her to stretch it out to four hours. Swift may seem like Superwoman onstage, but singing and dancing for four hours (a few nights in a row) would tire just about everyone. The artist even cut her debut album from the Era Tour's setlist because its inclusion would make the concert too long.
Taylor Swift's Eras Tour will return to the United States in late 2024 as the singer-songwriter added shows in Miami, New Orleans, and Indianapolis (places she didn't go to during her first U.S. run).
However, if Swift cut some of the already-established songs from the Eras Tour, The Tortured Poets Department could find a place in the concert. The Folklore and Midnights sets have seven songs each, some of which could be taken off the setlist (even though they would be greatly missed). Meanwhile, Lover , Evermore , and 1989 's sets could also be condensed to accommodate the artist's eleventh studio album. Perhaps Taylor Swift will wait to show off her songs from The Tortured Poets Department on a different tour, but it would make the most sense if she performed some during the Eras Tour.

Taylor Swift : The Eras Tour AMC Entertainment
After Covid shut down AMC and the rest of the globe’s multiplexes and the actors strike ratcheted down the box office, you could say that the No. 1 exhibitor was taking its fate into its own hands with Taylor Swift: The Era’s Tour . However, it has Scott Swift, Taylor Swift’s father, to thank. He reportedly made the call to AMC CEO Adam Aron to sidestep studios and gain more cash in taking his daughter’s movie from her $1 billion-plus-selling, sold-out concert tour directly to AMC. Why have a studio walk away with a ton of cash and spend tens of millions in marketing when Swift with a then-near-400 million social media followers is the best form of advertisement? She tweeted a few times to promote the movie, and showed up at her boyfriend Travis Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs games to drum up her $15M Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film as a must-see. The movie also received a SAG-AFTRA waiver, which allowed the pop star to show up at her own Los Angeles world premiere and do publicity. The result: $100M in global advance ticket sales. AMC, to avoid antitrust issues, hired Gotham-based distributor Variance Films to book cinemas across the nation, and Trafalgar to handle the overseas release. Much to the chagrin of the studios, who had their thing to say about Aron’s entry into the distribution business, they all started moving their movies away (i.e., Universal’s The Exorcist reboot, Lionsgate’s Ordinary Angels ) from Eras Tour and its arrival on the calendar October 13. Swift cleverly tailored her marketing to fans, releasing the movie on a date that reps her lucky number, with tickets priced at $13.13 for children and seniors. Initially she wasn’t going to preview the movie, looking to open hard on 10/13. At the last minute, during the week of release, Swift changed her mind and opted for last-minute Thursday previews (they only yielded $2.8M).
