The Darkness announce new UK and Ireland tour

the darkness tour uk

British rock band The Darkness have just announced a 2023 UK and Ireland tour to celebrate 20 years since the release of their debut album.

“You have all been very patient. We are VERY EXCITED to announce the dates for our Permission to Land 20th Anniversary UK & Ireland Tour!” said The Darkness on Twitter.

“We can’t wait to celebrate this very important birthday with you. See you all soon!”

The tour, which will see The Darkness stop off at nine cities across the UK and Ireland in December, is to celebrate two decades since the release of Permission To Land – the band’s first album. Permission To Land was released by Atlantic, and includes hits such as I Believe in a Thing Called Love and Love Is Only a Feeling.

“Their lack of subtlety, sophistication or sense has got up noses,” said The Guardian in its 2003 review of the album. “It’s not as if they’ll be impinging on our consciousness for longer than a few seasons, anyway...”

Defying the critics, Permission To Land was nominated for a Mercury Prize that same year, and although the album didn’t win, it did peak at number one in the UK album charts, and at number 36 on the US Billboard 200.

In 2004, Permission to Land won British Album of the Year at the BRIT awards, and the band won an Ivor Novello Songwriter Of The Year award the same year.

The Darkness went on to release six more albums, the most recent being 2021’s Motorheart, which went to number one in the UK Rock & Metal Albums charts and number 16 in the UK album charts.

The band supported Guns N’ Roses at BST Hyde Park on June 30, sharing a bill with the Pretenders, Larkin Poe, Dirty Honey and Bad Nerves.

Next up the band, which is made up of members Frankie Poullain, Rufus Tiger Taylor and brothers Justin and Dan Hawkins, will be playing alongside Kiss in Norway as part of Kiss’ End of the Road World Tour – the American band’s final ever tour.

After this, The Darkness will be playing at venues across America, before their first date in Belfast.

The darkness, black stone cherry announce co-headlining uk tour.

Posted by Buddy Iahn | Jun 22, 2022

Trek takes place Jan-Feb 2023

The Darkness and Black Stone Cherry have announced an exciting co-headline UK arena tour for 2023. This upcoming tour will see one of the UK’s most well-loved rock heroes play alongside the legendary Kentucky-based group Black Stone Cherry. These two titans of rock will hit the road in 2023 across multiple venues around the UK, kicking things off on the January 28th in Cardiff at the Motorpoint Arena before hitting the road around the country including Liverpool’s M&S Bank Arena, Glasgow’s OVO Hydro, Birmingham’s Resorts World Arena, Manchester AO Arena, Leeds First Direct Arena before a major headline show in London at the OVO Arena Wembley on February 4th.

Tickets go on sale on Friday, June 24th at 10 am BST via Ticketmaster .

“Legend tells of a night, some ten or more years ago, upon which The Darkness and Black Stone Cherry serenaded the nocturnal creatures of Thetford Forest, receiving generally favorable reviews in the woodland press,” shares Darkness frontman Justin Hawkins. “Like the owls and squirrels of that fabled evening, we give to you an opportunity to stand beaks and mouths a-gape in awe and wonder at the awesome power of power chords played by the very same fingers, but within the convenient shelter of an arena instead of in a moon-dappled forest clearing. There may be some seating so you won’t have to sit on toadstools. Also, modern flushing toilet facilities, not just tree trunks and bushes. Remember what the Thetford fauna say – “The music of Black Stone Cherry and The Darkness is TREEmendous, and Never LEAVES you.”

“The rock n’ roll history books will tell you that on a summer’s night in 2012, tucked way back in the English countryside, two bands, from different parts of the world, came together to bring people a night of high energy, pedal to the metal, in your face unscripted rock ‘n’ roll,” shares Black Stone Cherry. “A bond was formed that could only have been blessed by the wizards of said forest. While discussing each other’s outfits and stage moves, a tour was spoken of, put into the galaxy if you will, and now we are honored to say the stars have finally aligned and we will be joining forces with The Darkness for what will be the UK’s most exciting tour of the season! We absolutely cannot wait to create more magic and release the lightning that both bands caught in a bottle so many years ago. Grab your friends, grab your family, but hold on to your asses because this tour is going to ROCK!”

For over two decades these iconic bands have embedded themselves as two of the most influential live rock bands around. A true spectacle to behold, these shows promise to be an incredibly special affair, guaranteed to create a lively and memorable moment for fans who will be treated to hits from both of their back catalogues a show that every rock music fan will enjoy. Tickets are available here.

The Darkness & Black Stone Cherry 2023 UK Tour Dates:

Jan 28 – Cardiff @ Motorpoint Arena Jan 29 – Liverpool @ M&S bank Arena Jan 30 – Glasgow @ OVO Arena Jan 31 – Birmingham @ Resorts World Arena Feb 2 – Manchester @ AO Arena Feb 3 – Leeds @ First Direct Arena Feb 4 – London @ Wembley OVO Arena

Wow!! What a show the energy, set list and sound were fantastic. The Darkness put a show on like no other and as always we’re quite magnificent. Also did the Meet and Greet and it was lovely to watch some of the sound check followed by a Question and Answer and a tour around the Stage and Instruments. The lads were really nice and chatty telling stories ❤️❤️

Not a band to take lightly or dismiss as a joke act,the DARKNESS came to Leicester and ROCKED the 02 academy with some great songs, riffs and jokes, even Justin doing his acrobatic handstand during one of their songs! From bassist Frankie Poullain dropping the Cowbell used for the beginning of " One way ticket to hell and back", to Justin playing a synthesizer version of" I believe in a thing called love", there was something to delight all of the rocking crowd last night, all rounded off with Justin playing a red glitter guitar for a rousing rendition of " Christmas time ( don't let the bells end)" There was no DARKNESS last night, only four stars that shone very brightly indeed!!! Well rocked!!

Scottie Scheffler wins RBC Heritage, fourth in 5 PGA Tour events

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SOUTH CAROLINA - APRIL 21: Scottie Scheffler looks to hit a tee shot on the 10th hole during the final round of the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links on April 21, 2024 in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. (Photo by Jared C. Tilton/Getty Images)

Scottie Scheffler’s season of excellence continued Sunday at the RBC Heritage. He finished it up on Monday with a three-stroke victory, claiming the event’s signature tartan jacket to go with his green jacket.

He’s the first player to win four starts in a five-star stretch since Tiger Woods in 2007-08. He’s the first person since Bernhard Langer in 1985 to follow up a Masters win with a win the following week (Langer also won at Harbour Town). Gary Player in 1978 and Jimmy Demaret in 1950 also accomplished the feat.

Scheffler has also won the Players Championship and Arnold Palmer Invitational during this stretch. In the Houston Open, he finished in a tie for second, and missed a putt to force a playoff. Scheffler now has 10 career wins, all since February 2022.

“I’m just maturing as a person. On the course mentally the last month or so is as good mentally as I’ve been in a long time, and I think that’s why I’m seeing some of the results,” Scheffler told Golf Channel after the win.

Play was called due to darkness Sunday at the event at Harbour Town Links in Hilton Head, S.C., with Scheffler five strokes ahead and three holes to play. There was a 2 1/2 hour weather delay from 4:28 p.m. until 7 p.m. that forced the PGA Tour into a Monday finish.

When he returned Scheffler finished the final three holes in 45 minutes. His bogey on 18 was his first bogey of the week. Sahith Theegala finished second at 16-under, with Wyndham Clark and Patrick Cantlay tied for third at 15-under. Justin Thomas was among the group tied for fifth, a good week for the embattled star.

Scheffler punctuated Sunday with a head-shaking 15th hole — he had an exceedingly rare mishit with his second shot, going just left into the water. As he was taking the drop, CBS attempted to foreshadow what was coming by flashing a graphic that it had been 65 holes since Scheffler had a double bogey. The streak continued. He hit his approach shot with spin, landed on the slope and rolled it to 11 feet. The horn sounded to end play but Scheffler was allowed to finish the hole — he drained the putt, pumped his fist like he had just won the tournament and exited to a waiting golf cart.

Scheffler did not show up at Hilton Head until Wednesday after winning his second Masters, played nine holes in the pro-am and said he would see the rest of the course during his first round on Thursday. It was daring a signature event field to beat him, but instead, he shot a first-round 69, followed that up with a 65 on Friday and a 63 on Saturday to take a one-stroke lead into Sunday.

“I played some really good golf in the middle of the tournament. It’s nice to be done,” Scheffler said.

Scheffler shot a final round 68. He is not in the field for this week’s Zurich Classic in New Orleans. It’s not clear yet if he’ll play before the PGA Championship from May 16-19 as he and his wife Meredith await the birth of their first child.

the darkness tour uk

The Darkness and Black Stone Cherry have today announced an exciting co-headline UK arena tour for 2023. This upcoming tour will see one of the UK’s most well-loved rock heroes play alongside the legendary Kentucky-based group Black Stone Cherry. These two titans of rock will hit the road in 2023 across multiple venues around the UK, kicking things off on the 28 th of January in Cardiff at the Motorpoint Arena before hitting the road around the country including Liverpool’s M&S Bank Arena, Glasgow’s OVO Arena, Birmingham’s Resorts World Arena , Manchester AO Arena, Leeds First Direct Arena before a major headline show in London at the Wembley OVO Arena on the 4 th of February 2023.

Mr Justin Hawkins – “Legend tells of a night, some ten or more years ago, upon which The Darkness and Black Stone Cherry serenaded the nocturnal creatures of Thetford Forest, receiving generally favourable reviews in the woodland press. Like the owls and squirrels of that fabled evening, we give to you an opportunity to stand beaks and mouths a-gape in awe and wonder at the awesome power of power chords played by the very same fingers, but within the convenient shelter of an arena instead of in a moon-dappled forest clearing.

Black Stone Cherry – “The rock n’ roll history books will tell you that on a summer’s night in 2012, tucked way back in the English countryside, two bands, from different parts of the world, came together to bring people a night of high energy, pedal to the metal, in your face unscripted rock ‘n’ roll.  A bond was formed that could only have been blessed by the wizards of said forest.

The Cult add extra London show to 2024 UK anniversary tour

It comes after the band announced a 40th-anniversary tour earlier this month

Ian Astbury, left, and guitarist Billy Duffy of The Cult perform at The Pearl concert theater at Palms Casino Resort on October 27, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Cult have added an extra London show to their upcoming anniversary tour. Check out ticket details below.

The announcement comes just days after the rock icons announced details of an upcoming UK tour for the end of 2024 – which will see them celebrate 40 years as a band.

Upcoming shows will be held in 10 cities across the country, and mark the milestone anniversary of Ian Astbury and co. coming together as we recognise them today – swapping their name from the original title ‘Death Cult’ into ‘The Cult’.

Now, following the initial date at London’s Royal Albert Hall selling out, the band have announced details of a second show in the UK capital, this time held at the Roundhouse venue in Camden.

The date is added as an extension to the original run of shows and will take place on Tuesday, November 5 – the day after the Royal Albert Hall gig. Tickets are available now and you can check out an updated itinerary for the UK shows below.

Ian Astbury of The Cult performs at The Pearl concert theater at Palms Casino Resort on October 27, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Cult 2024 updated tour dates are:

OCTOBER 21 – Leicester, De Montfort Hall 22– Swansea, Swansea Arena  24 – Edinburgh, Usher Hall [SOLD OUT] 25 – Manchester, O2 Apollo 27 – Bristol, Beacon [LOW TICKETS]  29 – York, Barbican 30 – Newcastle, O2 City Hall

Recommended

NOVEMBER: 1 – Portsmouth, Guildhall 2 – Wolverhampton, Civic Hall 4 – London, Royal Albert Hall [SOLD OUT] 5 – London, Roundhouse

The dates for 2024 come following a tour the band embarked on last year, celebrating 40 years since their first formation under the name ‘Death Cult’ .

Taking place around the UK, Ireland and the US, the tour was called ‘Death Cult 8323’ and saw Duffy and Astbury return to play iconic venues they previously performed in at the start of their career.

The live shows focused on Death Cult and their eponymous EPs, and also boasted a setlist that spanned “the three phases of the band, from Southern Death Cult, to Death Cult, and The Cult’s first two albums: ‘Dreamtime’ (1984) and ‘Love’ (1985).”

Announcing the new run of dates, guitarist Billy Duffy said: “Following up from the great energy of ‘Death Cult 8323’ shows, I’m looking forward to bringing that sense of celebration of the band’s music, and the communion with our fans, to ‘Cult 8424’… CFFC. Let the ceremony commence!”

More recently, Billy Duffy joined Johnny Marr on stage in Frome last summer to play tracks by The Smiths and Depeche Mode .

Sunday’s final round of 2024 RBC Heritage suspended due to darkness after lengthy weather delay

The last thing you want to hear is the horn on the golf course, but that’s precisely what fans at the 2024 RBC Heritage heard on Sunday. Twice.

The final round play at Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina was suspended due to inclement weather at 4:28 p.m. ET. The final group featuring tournament leader Scottie Scheffler was in the fairway on the 11th hole when play was called.

On the CBS broadcast, the Tour’s Senior Director, TV rules and review analyst Mark Dusbabek made it clear that play was called due to lightning in the area and not because of the heavy rains that were falling. At 6:30 p.m. ET the final update came that play would resume at 7 p.m. ET, ending a two-and-a-half-hour delay. Less than an hour later at 7:47 p.m. ET the horn sounded to call play for the day due to darkness.

Nine players will return to the course at 8 a.m. ET Monday morning to finish he tournament. Scottie Scheffler, who has won three of his last four starts, holds a five-shot lead with three holes to play.
