The Grand Tour: Sand Job

  • Press Releases

For their latest adventure, Jeremy, James and Richard travel to wild and remote country of Mauritania, in West Africa. Their challenge is to follow in the footsteps of the world’s most dangerous race, the iconic Paris-Dakar. But instead of competing in bespoke, hand built Dakar racers, our unfit trio must complete their journey in second hand sports cars, modified by them.

Jeremy opts for a Jaguar F Type V6, Richard too goes British with an Aston Martin Volante V12, whilst James takes a punt on Italy with a Maserati. The boys report to the northern part of Mauritania, inside the perilous Foreign Office Red Zone, where they must rendezvous with their cars, which are delivered courtesy of the world’s longest iron ore train, a 1.2 mile monster that travels this country’s only railway line.

From there, Jeremy, James and Richard strike out into the Sahara, heading south for Senegal and the famous finish line on the beach of Dakar. Along the way they must descend treacherous ravines by cable, James must battle with mysterious sand storms that threaten his car, they must build unusual and ingenious devices to help their cars cope with the car killing roads, and they must extract themselves from a deadly minefield. Also, given they are in the Sahara in one of the least populated countries in the world, they have to travel with their own fuel bowser, which they must protect at all costs, from being blown up.

Having conquered the Sahara, our heroes’ problems are far from over. In order to reach Senegal they must make a perilous river crossing, across a river with no bridge. Now fully able to travel to far flung and exotic places the boys are back at their best, with the incredible back drop of Mauritania providing a spectacular setting for one of their most action packed adventures yet.

The grand tour’s penultimate special is out now.

Mike Bartholomew headshot

After an eight-month wait since the release of the last episode, Eurocrash, the penultimate special of The Grand Tour has finally premiered on Amazon Prime.

Subtitled Sand Job (nice), the feature-length special sees Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May cross the Sahara desert, retracing the original route of the Dakar Rally . Their journey starts in in the heart of the West African nation of Mauritania, and roughly retraces the famous race’s route to its iconic beachfront finish.

That’s an infamously tough journey even in specialised desert racing machinery, but it wouldn’t be The Grand Tour without some extra peril, so the team is undertaking the journey in some of the most inappropriate vehicles possible: big, front-engined, open-top sports cars, more suited to cruising the south of France than tackling the biggest sand desert in the world.

Jeremy has chosen a V6 Jaguar F-Type, Richard an Aston Martin DB9 Volante, and James a Maserati GranCabrio, all of which have undergone some serious modification in order to take on the challenging terrain. Clearly, we’re a long way from the days of the three-figure budgets seen in early Top Gear cheap car challenges.

Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May in The Grand Tour: Sand Job

As we saw in the trailer, the journey isn’t an easy one, with the trio having to deal with sand storms, massive dunes, ravines and actual minefields, as well as a pretty perilous-looking river crossing. There’s also an appearance from the world’s longest train, a 1.2-mile-long beast that transports iron ore and also delivers the cars to the starting point. All the while, the team must protect their vital fuel bowser, required to keep the cars going in this remote part of the world.

It’s more of what we’ve come to know and love from The Grand Tour’s big-budget specials: there’s incredible cinematography showing off the Sahara’s stark beauty mixed in with driving sequences that push the trio’s sports cars far beyond anything they were designed for. Oh, and some explosions, of course.

The Grand Tour presenters take a van across a river

It was the filming of this special that Clarkson said made him realise how “ unfit and fat and old ” he was, leading in part to his decision to step back from the show.

We know there’s still one more special to come after this, filmed in Zimbabwe, which Amazon says is coming “later this year.” Interestingly, Amazon refers to that as the “final special of The Grand Tour with the trio,” reinforcing the suggestion that the show could continue in one form or another after the departure of Clarkson, Hammond and May.

Trailer For 'The Grand Tour: Sand Job' Shows Clarkson, Hammond and May Have Lost All Inspiration

Maybe the full special will be better than the trailer makes it appear..

The Grand Tour: Sand Job

We’ve known for a little while now that Amazon Prime Video’s “The Grand Tour” was coming to an end . Not only are Clarkson, Hammond and May much older than they were when they first began filming “Top Gear” together more than 20 years ago, but there’s also that time Clarkson wrote that absolutely vile column for The Sun that led Amazon to announce plans to part ways with him. Still, Prime Video allowed him to stay on to film a few more “Grand Tour” specials, and the trailer for the first one was only just released.

Related Content

Called “The Grand Tour: Sand Job,” the latest special appears to have the trio driving an Aston Martin DB9, a Jaguar F-Type, and a Maserati GranTurismo, through Northwest Africa. There’s also a very long train, some sort of floating van, two boat conversions, two snow machines, shots of the three driving their cars on the beach and plenty of shenanigans. It appears to have everything you’d expect from a “Grand Tour” special but doesn’t exactly give you much of a reason to watch.

Now, it’s entirely possible that the special itself will be much better than the trailer makes it appear. Some other team was probably in charge of editing the trailer, and they could have just done a bad job of choosing what to highlight. Based on what we can see, though, the inspiration is just completely gone. Everything they showed in the trailer is something we’ve seen multiple times before in some form or another. If someone claimed the script was written by AI, we’d believe it. It just doesn’t look particularly entertaining or even interesting.

Unfortunately for all of us, when “The Grand Tour: Sand Job” premieres on February 16, it won’t be the final “Grand Tour” special. That distinction is saved for one that was filmed in Zimbabwe and is reportedly airing later this year.

The boys are back with a brand new episode of The Grand Tour. This time, they are headed to Mauritania for their penultimate adventure – and viewers can watch it now!

In the latest episode, titled Sand Job, the trio will follow in the footsteps of the legendary Paris-Dakar rally, but they'll have to take on their adventure in modified sports cars.

It'll no doubt be an exciting episode, with Richard Hammond previously teasing a "surprise" for the episode.

Speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com ahead of the launch, Hammond revealed: "There was there was a surprise arrival in [the] minefield, because it's [Mauritania] still on the red list in terms of travel, and the last thing you want in or near a minefield is a surprise.

'There was a scary encounter with some Ebola carrying bats. My car, the Aston Martin, was the troublesome one of the bunch because it comes from an era when cars were just becoming intelligent... and that gave me no end prompt. Plus, the guys just destroyed me as well. There was quite a bit of pranking."

When will the next episode of The Grand Tour be released?

James May, Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond all stood in the desert with their hands on their hips

The next instalment of The Grand Tour became available to watch on Friday 16th February on Prime Video . It's out now!

The Grand Tour locations

The trio have previously filmed in far-flung locations such as Colombia, Vietnam and Switzerland - and next time will be no different.

The newest instalment will see the trio head back to Africa, as they have this time filmed the show in Mauritiana, a country in the Northwest of the continent.

Speaking of the location, Clarkson said: "I love deserts, so I've always wanted to do the Sahara, but it's difficult to go there; you can't go to Mali or Libya or Algeria or Chad. You can't go to the top of Nigeria.

"And then it was really a question of finding the most inappropriate cars for trans-Sahara travel, and I think we did a pretty good job on that."

Everything You Need To Know: The Grand Tour Season 4 Seamen + Trailer + Release Dates

It’s official, The Grand Tour will return for, at minimum, another two seasons . Both season 4 and season 5 have both been confirmed, and that’s got all fans of Clarkson, Hammond and May very excited – and that includes us!

But these next seasons will have some major changes, which we’ll cover on this page. Let’s get into it.

Table of Contents

The Grand Tour Presents: Seamen

The first feature film of Season 4 is planned to be released on December 13th. Usually it airs a little earlier the day before, around 11pm the day before UK time.

After the news of James May almost being killed in Vietnam due to extreme weather, we knew the trio were filming around this area. But in this trailer they ditch the cars and head out onto the (kind of) open waters where they attempt to cross the Mekong River Delta without any issues. As you can guess, this doesn’t go to plan as Clarkson fails to steer his boat, James heads into reeds, and Hammond… well, we’re lucky if we don’t see him capsize his craft.

Reports from Hammond have let on that he contracted a severe infection while working in the water for this episode. He was administered antibiotics, but could still suffering from its effects while filming.

This first episode will run for about an hour and three quarters, according to Andy Wilman,  although Amazon has the last say. It could be cut further, but Wilman is hesitant to do this.

Special Feature 2

Little is known about this second episode, although we followed the trio as they tweeted about being stuck on a tropical island we identified as being Reuinion Island. We’re not sure if filming occurred here, but they later travelled further to Cambodia where Jeremy, Richard and James encountered the effects of global warming.

Because of this, Jeremy admitted that climate change was a real thing , to much our surprise, although he isn’t a fan of young climate change activist Greta Thunberg, who he has branded an ‘idiot’ .

We’re yet to here more regarding episode 2, although it should be released later on during 2020.

The Grand Tour Season 4

Where Can You Watch Season 4?

As always, it will only be available on Amazon Prime Video. Sign up here for 30 days free trial.

Can You Get Tickets?

the grand tour season 6 trailer

Where tickets were available for each of the previous seasons for no charge, Season 4 isn’t going to have as much audience interaction. It’s a possibility that an audience may be required for certain parts of the season but this is as of yet unconfirmed.

Changes Coming To Season 4

Has the tent gone.

Yes, there is no more tent. Unlike Season 1, for Season 2 and 3, the tent stayed in only one place – Great Tew, England. This was funnily enough right next to Clarkson’s house, and meant the team didn’t have to waste time and money setting up the tent for each episode.

Season 4 will see the removal of the tent section of the program entirely. Instead, the trio will focus only on special episodes without an audience.

No More News Section?

the grand tour season 6 trailer

Taking a guess, we’d have to say no. The news has been a loved part of the show since Top Gear , and while it wasn’t so revered as it used to be, it was still a favourite part of The Grand Tour. Unfortunately, we can’t see how the news would remain without a tent/studio and an audience to bounce off.

While it could still have a place on the road, we highly doubt that the news will be making a comeback.

Will There Be Celebrities?

Let’s face it, this was none’s favourite part. While yes, celebrities could join them on their travels, it’s highly unlikely. We’re watching to see the chemistry between Clarkson, Hammond and May after all, not other celebrities.

Where Is Season 4 Filmed?

jeremy clarkson season 4 ending

As already explained, The Grand Tour is only going to be a collection of special episodes filmed across the globe. So far, the trio have begun filming in Cambodia and have been seen in the city Siem Reap. Episode 1, Seamen, takes place in Vietnam and the surrounding areas.

Jeremy Clarkson has confirmed that they will be visiting Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, Malaysia and Singapore.

Did James May Nearly Die?

the grand tour season 6 trailer

During filming, James May was caught in a catastrophic monsoon on the sea close to Cambodia and Vietnam. They had to abandon ship but were thankfully not harmed. Horribly, four people died ‘merely inches away’.

This has caused an incredibly dramatic ending for one of the episodes, which Clarkson explained in a Q&A.

Richard Hammond Suffered From Major Infection

Video: Richard Hammond Talks About The Time He Almost Killed James May

Richard Hammond contracted bacterial skin infection cellulitis, while filming in the water.

He told  BANG Showbiz:

“It bloody hurts. It’s one of those on the list of c**p conditions I’ve had.

“I got it from climbing into the water and then I realised my legs were hurting. My feet were very red and it went through my legs.”

“You could literally see it tracking up my leg,” he told them further. “I’m at a disadvantage because it’s a much shorter journey to my vital organs. That would have been a really c**** way to go.”

Medics on the scene had to dose him up with a large amount of antibiotics to prevent the infection from going further, but this didn’t stop the initial effects.

“My feet hurt and I had to walk like an old lady, so the other two took the p**s non-stop.”v

This page will be updated as more information is released.

Why are all the episodes filmed in SE Asia? I’m guessing the cost of housing, feeding and filming is much cheaper than…say E.U. or USA. My 2 cents.

I cannot wait for Season 4. I started to watch Top Gear early in the ’90 and remember I got my mom to record the episodes when I was away sailing as deck officer so I could watch them when I came home on holiday. Grate stories and even better humor 🙂

I can’t wait. I’m happy they ditched the tent. The Specials have always been my favourite. Bring on season 4 😋

I am looking forward to see… The Grand Tour ! 😀 *yeeeeeeiiiiii* 🙂

I am very pleased to know the guts will be back, only show on tv worth watching. Also good news that James May is alive and well, was it a case of slow being best in this situation. Looking forward to seeing them all asap.

Brilliant update and can’t wait to see the bus pass episode one day 😂👍

'The Grand Tour Presents: Lochdown' —everything you need to know

The Grand Tour Presents: Lochdown drops on Amazon Prime very soon.

The Grand Tour Presents: Lochdown key art

The Grand Tour Presents: Lochdown will finally see the beloved motoring show returning to Amazon Prime in a double-bill special!

Confined to the UK by COVID-19, Jeremy, Richard and James headed up to Scotland to film a brand new special which is dedicated to celebrating the great American cars of the 1970s that they saw on TV when they were kids. Along the way, they learn why these cars ever really took off across the pond...

Despite being stuck in the UK, this promises to be one of the trio’s funniest and most action-packed adventures to date! Here’s everything you need to know about The Grand Tour Presents: Lochdown !

The Grand Tour Presents: Lochdown release date

You don’t have much longer to wait to watch Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May back in action! The Grand Tour Presents: Lochdown will be available to stream exclusively on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, 30 July!

Which cars are they driving?

In The Grand Tour Presents: Lochdown, the three hosts will be at the wheels of a Cadillac Coupe De Ville (as driven by none other than Elvis Presley), a Lincoln Continental (driven by Jock Ewing from Dallas ), and a Buick Riviera (a favourite of Clint Eastwood).

Where are they headed?

As the title implies, Jeremy, Richard and James are headed up to Scotland to take in some of the country’s breathtaking scenery. On their journey, they’ll also be causing chaos in Edinburgh as they try to force their muscle cars around the city’s ancient streets, and they’ll be taking part in another a tyre-screeching showdown with returning racing driver Abbie Eaton on the racetrack.

They’ll also be heading off to stage an epic Cold War shootout between the worst Soviet and American cars ever made, and will have to get inventive when they find themselves homeless in the Scottish highlands.

As if that’s not enough, they’ll be modifying their muscle cars and taking them to the Outer Hebrides for one of the show’s toughest challenges yet! They’ll have to see whether a homemade floating bridge will be capable of supporting the weight of their massive cars on a perilous drive across the Hebridean sea to their final destination!

  • Studio Lambert has reportedly won a contract to create an updated version of The Grand Tour.
  • Little is known about the retooled show, but it’s expected to feature new presenters as well as a revised format.

With Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May leaving The Grand Tour , many thought the show was dead. However, a new report suggests that might not be the case.

According to Broadcast , Studio Lambert has been awarded a contract to “develop a fresh version” of the show. Details are limited, but the publication said the studio beat out rival pitches from Shine TV and Orchard Studios.

More: Jeremy Clarkson Says He’s Too “Unfit, Fat And Old” To Keep The Grand Tour Going

The show reportedly hasn’t been formally greenlighted at this point, but Studio Lambert is said to be working on an updated format. The reboot is also expected to have new presenters, although there’s no word on how many or who might get the role.

The latter is obviously the biggest question as the bond between Clarkson, Hammond, and May was almost as interesting as whatever they were doing on screen. It’ll certainly be hard to replicate that as Top Gear found out following their departure.

The Sun quoted an unnamed industry insider as saying, “The Grand Tour is one of Prime Video’s most watched shows and Jeremy, James and Richard have a devoted following, but the guys have made no bones about the fact they’re all advancing in years and they have lots of other projects to pursue.” They added the trio wanted to go out on a high note.

While there are more questions than answers at this point, the show isn’t exactly a stranger to reboots. While it initially had a Top Gear -like feel and roughly a dozen episodes per season, The Grand Tour was eventually retooled to focus on a handful of road trips.

It remains unclear if the latest evolution of the show will stick to this format or try to find its own path. However, with Top Gear taking a “rest,” there might be an opportunity to return to that style format.

With all that being said, what would you like to see out of a Grand Tour reboot and who do you think should host?

The Grand Tour Season 6 Release Date, News, Cast, Spoilers & What We Know So Far

Photo of Sarika Mathur

The Grand Tour Season 6 : The Grand Tour is a show about cars on Amazon Prime Video, hosted by Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May. The show features segments where the hosts review different kinds of cars, from new models to vintage classics, and also take on various challenges and races related to motoring. The show also has studio parts where the hosts talk between the pre-recorded films.

The show is very popular and well-received and is regarded as one of the best new shows on TV. The show has been renewed for a fifth season, which premiered on September 16, 2022, and consists of four episodes. The fifth season saw the trio head back to Africa, as they filmed the show in Mauritania, a country in the Northwest of the continent. The season also featured some of the most dangerous and adventurous challenges the hosts have ever faced, such as driving through a minefield, crossing a river full of crocodiles, and racing against a jet fighter. Here’s everything we know so far about the next season of The Grand Tour.

Overview of The Grand Tour Season 6

The table below provides an overview of the 6th season of The Grand Tour , including the release date, the number of episodes, the locations, and the main features.

The Grand Tour Season 6 Release Date

The Grand Tour season 6 is anticipated to be renewed, but the official status is still unknown. The show is very popular among fans and has a loyal following. The show also has a lucrative deal with Amazon Prime Video, which reportedly pays the hosts around $250 million for three years of the show. Therefore, it is very likely that the show will continue for at least another season.

However, some factors may delay or affect the production and release of the sixth season. One of them is the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which has disrupted the filming and travel plans of many shows and movies. The Grand Tour is a show that relies heavily on traveling to different locations around the world, which may not be possible or safe in the current situation. The hosts and the crew may have to follow strict health and safety protocols, quarantine rules, and travel restrictions, which may limit their options and increase their costs.

Another factor is the age and health of the hosts. Clarkson, Hammond, and May are all in their 60s and have had some health issues in the past. Clarkson suffered from pneumonia in 2017, Hammond had a serious car crash in 2017 and another one in 2021, and May had a heart attack in 2019. The hosts have also admitted that they are not as fit and agile as they used to be and that some of the challenges they face are physically demanding and exhausting. They may have to consider their well-being and longevity and decide whether they want to continue doing the show or retire gracefully.

Therefore, it is hard to predict when the sixth season of The Grand Tour will be released, but we can assume that it will not be anytime soon. The show usually takes a long time to produce, edit, and release, and the pandemic and other factors may add to the delay. The best-case scenario is that the show will be renewed sometime in 2024, and the sixth season will be released in late 2024 or early 2025 . The worst-case scenario is that the show will be canceled or end after the fifth season, and the fans will have to say goodbye to the trio.

There is no trailer for the sixth season of The Grand Tour yet, as the show has not been renewed or filmed yet. However, we can expect a trailer to be released a few months before the premiere of the season, if and when it happens. The trailer will likely feature some glimpses of the locations, cars, challenges, and jokes that the season will offer. The trailer will also likely be posted on the official YouTube channel of The Grand Tour, as well as on the social media accounts of the hosts and the show.

There is not much news about the sixth season of The Grand Tour yet, as the show has not been renewed or filmed yet. However, there are some news and updates about the show and the hosts that may be of interest to the fans. Here are some of them:

  • The fifth season of The Grand Tour was released on September 16, 2022, and consisted of four episodes. The episodes were titled “The Grand Tour Presents: The Massive Hunt”, “The Grand Tour Presents: Lockdown”, “The Grand Tour Presents: Carnage A Trois”, and “The Grand Tour Presents: The Grand Tour”. The season received positive reviews from critics and fans and was praised for its humor, adventure, and chemistry among the hosts.
  • The hosts of The Grand Tour have been busy with other projects and activities besides the show. Clarkson has been hosting the quiz show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, as well as running his farm and starring in a documentary series called Clarkson’s Farm. Hammond has been hosting a science show called Richard Hammond’s Workshop, as well as working on his own car restoration company and starring in a documentary series called The Great Escapists. May has been hosting a cooking show called Oh Cook!, as well as working on his own travel and culture show called Our Man in Japan and starring in a documentary series called James May: The Reassembler.
  • The hosts of The Grand Tour have also been involved in some controversies and scandals in the past year. Clarkson was accused of breaking COVID-19 rules by hosting a large gathering at his farm, as well as making some offensive and insensitive remarks about various topics. Hammond was criticized for crashing a classic car during a race, as well as making some sexist and homophobic jokes. May was mocked for his poor cooking skills and his lack of knowledge about Japanese culture.

The Grand Tour Season 6 Spoilers

There are no spoilers for the sixth season of The Grand Tour yet, as the show has not been renewed or filmed yet. However, we can speculate and guess what the season may entail, based on the previous seasons and the preferences of the hosts. Here are some possible spoilers for the sixth season of The Grand Tour:

  • The season may feature some new and exotic locations that the hosts have not visited before, such as South America, Australia, New Zealand, or Antarctica. The hosts may also revisit some of their favorite or memorable locations from their past shows, such as Vietnam, Botswana, or Argentina.
  • The season may feature some new and exciting cars that the hosts have not driven before, such as electric cars, hypercars, supercars, or concept cars. The hosts may also drive some of their own or personal cars, such as Clarkson’s Lamborghini, Hammond’s Morgan, or May’s Ferrari.
  • The season may feature some new and challenging tasks and races that the hosts have not done before, such as off-road driving, rally driving, drag racing, or endurance racing. The hosts may also compete in some of their classic or signature challenges, such as car football, amphibious cars, or caravan racing.

The hosts may also make fun of each other’s personalities, habits, or preferences, such as Clarkson’s arrogance, Hammond’s height, or May’s slowness.

Ending Explanation

The fifth season of The Grand Tour ended with a special episode titled “The Grand Tour Presents: Euro crash”, which was released on June 16, 2023. The episode concluded with a race around the streets of Ljubljana, where the hosts had to avoid crashing into each other and the pedestrians. The winner was Hammond, who managed to cross the finish line first, followed by May and Clarkson. However, as they celebrated their victory, they were surrounded by a mob of angry Slovenians, who were unhappy with their reckless driving and the damage they caused to the city. The hosts then tried to escape by driving away, but they were soon chased by the police and the army. GTA 6 Trailer Recreated In Real Life, And It's Incredible

A YouTuber went to Miami to recreate the Grand Theft Auto VI trailer in real life.

By Eddie Makuch on April 11, 2024 at 7:53AM PDT

Grand Theft Auto VI 's announcement trailer has been recreated in real life, and the results are pretty impressive. YouTuber Andrew Levitt put together a recreation of the trailer featuring their own footage and video captured by Primecutpro and other video sources.

The video also uses the same song as the real trailer, Tom Petty's "Love Is a Long Road." Take a look at the trailer below, and a second video here in which Levitt offers a behind-the-scenes look at how he and his team put the video together and the lengths they went to in order to get the shots. It's pretty impressive stuff.

The GTA VI announcement video put up massive viewership numbers , which is no surprise given the game is considered by some to be the most anticipated game release, perhaps ever. One analyst believes it's the most important game release in the history of video games.

GTA VI is set for release in 2025, but some are expecting a delay given that pretty much every Rockstar Games title in the past 10+ years has been delayed.

GTA VI is reportedly now in the final stages of development . A recent report said the game could release in Fall 2025 or might slip to 2026 .

Rockstar Games is requiring most staffers to return to the office beginning April 15 to finish the game and to help prevent leaks. Not all Rockstar workers are happy about this, though, as some say the return-to-office mandate removes a lifeline.

GTA VI is in development at Rockstar North in Edinburgh, Scotland, with Rockstar's teams around the world supporting the game's development. Rockstar Games parent company Take-Two has said the developer is seeking "perfection."

In other news, prolific voice actor Troy Baker recently confirmed he is not voicing the male lead in GTA VI.
