Todd Rundgren Unites With King Crimson’s Adrian Belew For David Bowie Tribute Tour

  • By Andy Greene

Andy Greene

The Celebrating David Bowie tribute tour is headed back on the road this fall with a lineup that includes Todd Rundgren , Adrian Belew , Spacehog’s Royston Langdon, Fishbone’s Angelo Moore, and Jeffrey Gaines.

“ David Bowie was a master,” Langdon says in a statement. “It’s impossible to put into words quite how much he taught me. It gives me a huge thrill to get to honor Mr. B. & to be a small part of this immense celebration of his life & work with these world-class musicians and everyone, who like me feels his energy alive and vital around me now just as it was then & forever shall be.”

The backing band will include bassist Angeline Saris, drummer Michael Urbano, saxophonist Ron Dziubla, and guitarist Scrote (Angelo Bundini), who put together the first Celebrating David Bowie tour in 2017 and is producing this one alongside Miles Copeland.

“One of the things we’re doing differently on this tour is featuring a three-guitar attack,” Scrote tells Rolling Stone. “David has always been famous for his spectacular guitarists – the epic solos of Mick Ronson, the bluesy feel of Earl Slick, the funkiness of Carlos Alomar and Nile Rodgers, the bombast of Reeves Gabrels, and the otherworldly guitar of Adrian Belew who is still one of the most original guitarists working today. To explore all of these guitar sides of Bowie’s songs, we’re highlighting Adrian’s brilliance, Todd’s guitar wizardry, and whatever guitar mayhem I can muster in between.

The tour will be rolling out across America just a few weeks after Bret Morgen’s long-awaited documentary Moonage Daydream arrives in theaters. It mashes together footage from throughout Bowie’s entire career, much of it never seen before by the public. Morgen worked on it throughout the pandemic.

“Bowie was the best quarantine companion one could possibly have,” he recently told Rolling Stone . “I’m all alone trying to do this by myself … and yet I’m making a film on an artist whose stock in trade is how to be creative during periods of isolation. It comes up in every phase, from Ziggy to Blackstar. I didn’t see anybody for the first few months of the pandemic, but I saw David’s face every day when I woke up to go to work. It was almost like it was meant to be a piece of pandemic art.”

Adrian Belew, Todd Rundgren announce Celebrating David Bowie 2022 North American tribute tour

The fall trek is also set to feature Narada Michael Walden bassist Angeline Saris, Scrote, Fishbone’s Angelo Moore, veteran session drummer Michael Urbano and more

Electric guitar wizard Adrian Belew and Todd Rundgren will lead a North American David Bowie tribute tour this fall.

Titled Celebrating David Bowie, the trek is set to begin on October 6 at the Balboa Theatre in San Diego, California and will cover much of the continent before ending with a November 13 gig at the Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona.

Anchored by Belew and Rundgren, the tour will also feature Narada Michael Walden bass guitar player Angeline Saris, Scrote, Fishbone’s Angelo Moore (on select dates), saxophonist Ron Dziubla, Spacehog's Royston Langdon, Jeffrey Gaines (also on select dates), and veteran session drummer Michael Urbano.

“With such a large catalog to choose from, different songs affect us and the audience in varying measure,” Belew – who toured with Bowie as a guitarist in the late '70s and early '90s – said of the endeavor in a statement. “It's always amazing to feel the excitement of a Bowie audience beaming directly at you. Pure adrenaline! So much love for David.”

"This is Major Todd to ground control. I’m stepping through the door... In 1973, I met David Bowie and one of us ended up crying,” added Todd Rundgren. “I met David several times after that. Some of our phases, like glam, coincided. David had more of that Andy Warhol kind of sensibility, a pop sensibility.”

This tour will mark the first Celebrating David Bowie shows since fall 2018, when the rotating ensemble visited South America. That lineup also featured Belew and Moore, in addition to longtime Bowie pianist Mike Garson, Carmine Rojas and more.

You can see the current 2022 Celebrating David Bowie itinerary below, though representatives for the tour say that more appearances will be confirmed in the next few weeks.

Todd Rundgren and Adrian Belew Lead David Bowie Tribute Tour

Todd Rundgren and former King Crimson  member  Adrian Belew will be part of the 2022 Celebrating David Bowie tour.

Both artists have connections to the late music legend. Rundgren was a contemporary and friend of Bowie’s who shared a parallel career and a similar perspective on music, even if their material was different. “We shared the fact that you don’t settle down to a single style of music and sort of milk it until your career is over,” Rundgren explained to Billboard in 2017. “David had more of that Andy Warhol kind of sensibility, a pop sensibility. He always had a well-cultivated self-image, and I never worked that much on my self-image. He was a character whenever you saw him, and I’m only a persona when I’m onstage — if that.”

Belew was a member of Bowie’s band in 1978 and 1979, which included playing on the double live album Stage . He later rejoined Bowie in 1990 as the musical director of the Sound+Vision Tour.

Royston Langdon, frontman for the ‘90s alt-rockers Spacehog, Fishbone saxophonist Angelo Moore and singer-songwriter Jeffrey Gaines will also be part of the Celebrating David Bowie tour, which will find the musicians delving into material from throughout Bowie's storied career.

“David Bowie was a master,” Langdon said in a statement (via  Rolling Stone ). “It’s impossible to put into words quite how much he taught me. It gives me a huge thrill to get to honor Mr. B. and to be a small part of this immense celebration of his life and work with these world-class musicians and everyone, who like me feels his energy alive and vital around me now just as it was then and forever shall be.”

The trek is the brainchild of guitarist Angelo “Scrote” Bundini. Following Bowie’s death in 2016, Bundini organized an all-star tribute concert at the Roxy in Los Angeles. The event went so well that the guitarist, along with some surprise guests, held another Bowie concert in San Francisco.

Seeing the excitement generated by these shows, Bundini put together the first Celebrating David Bowie tour in 2017. Rundgren came on board for the 2018 edition. The upcoming trek marks the third Celebrating David Bowie tour.

“One of the things we’re doing differently on this tour is featuring a three-guitar attack,” Bundini  noted . “David has always been famous for his spectacular guitarists – the epic solos of Mick Ronson , the bluesy feel of Earl Slick , the funkiness of Carlos Alomar and Nile Rodgers, the bombast of Reeves Gabrels and the otherworldly guitar of Adrian Belew, who is still one of the most original guitarists working today. To explore all of these guitar sides of Bowie’s songs, we’re highlighting Adrian’s brilliance, Todd’s guitar wizardry and whatever guitar mayhem I can muster in between.”

Celebrating David Bowie with special guest Ava Cherry

 ► DATE:  Friday, October 14, 2022  •  TIME:  8pm

Celebrating David Bowie Tickets

After performing rapturously received and critically lauded shows worldwide pre-pandemic, the original Celebrating David Bowie shows return in 2022 answering the question, “What makes Bowie different?.” Rock’n’Roll Hall Of Famer Todd Rundgren, Adrian Belew (Bowie, NIN, King Crimson, Frank Zappa, Talking Heads), and CdB creator, producer, and featured artist Scrote bring Spacehog’s Royston Langdon, Fishbone’s Angelo Moore, and solo artist Jeffrey Gaines with saxophone great Ron Dziubla (Jon Baptiste, Joe Bonamassa), Narada Michael Walden bassist Angeline Saris, and popular session & touring drummer Michael Urbano (Lindsey Buckingham, Sheryl Crow) to interpret Bowie’s greatest hits.

“With such a large catalog to choose from, different songs affect us and the audience in varying measure,” adds Adrian Belew. “It’s always amazing to feel the excitement of a Bowie audience beaming directly at you. Pure adrenaline! So much love for David.” “This is Major Todd to ground control. I’m stepping through the door…In 1973, I met David Bowie and one of us ended up crying,” explains Todd Rundgren. “I met David several times after that. Some of our phases, like glam, coincided. David had more of that Andy Warhol kind of sensibility, a pop sensibility.”

Scrote (aka Angelo Bundini) partners with maverick music executive Miles Copeland to produce the tour this year. “Fronting the show with revered innovators Todd & Adrian is an incredible honor. We’re looking forward to unleashing a three-guitar attack for an epic ride fueled with songs for every Bowie fan.” Royston Langdon offers, “David Bowie was a master. It’s impossible to put into words quite how much he taught me. I appreciate it. I discovered The Rise And Fall of Ziggy Stardust on vinyl when I was just Fourteen. And it gives me a huge thrill to get to honor Mr. B. & to be a small part of this immense celebration of his life & work with these world-class musicians and everyone, who like me, feels his energy alive and vital around me now just as it was then & forever shall be.” So, what makes Bowie different? “It’s the boldness and the art of it. He’s a wild character from a different time”, Fishbone’s Angelo Moore chimes in. “It’s the theater. It’s got soul. I like music that has honesty, passion, and soul. David Bowie has all of these things.”

Todd Rundgren, Adrian Belew To Join Forces For 'Celebrating Bowie' Tour

By Andrew Magnotta @AndrewMagnotta

June 7, 2022

todd rundgren adrian belew tour 2022

Todd Rundgren and ex- King Crimson frontman Adrian Belew have signed on to lead the 2022 'Celebrating David Bowie' tour.

Rundgren, a longtime friend of Bowie and a like-minded iconoclast, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year.

Belew was a member of Bowie's band in 1978 - 79 and performed on Bowie's double-live album Stage . In 1990, Belew again worked with Bowie as musical director of the Sound+Vision tour.

Other notable members of the Celebrating Bowie band include Spacehog frontman Royston Langdon , Fishbone saxophonist Angelo Moor and singer-songwriter Jeffrey Gaines .

The musicians will select and perform material from different eras of Bowie's eclectic career.

"David Bowie was a master," Langdon told Rolling Stone in a statement. "It's impossible to put into words quite how much he taught me. It gives me a huge thrill to get to honor Mr. B & to be a small part of this immense celebration of his life & work with these world-class musicians and everyone, who like me feels his energy alive and vital around me now just as it was then & forever shall be."

The backing band will include bassist Angeline Saris , drummer Michael Urbano , saxophonist Ron Dziubla and guitarist Angelo 'Scrote' Bundini . Bundini organized the first Celebrating David Bowie shows in 2017.

Rundgren, who joined the Celebrating Bowie collective in 2018, was asked about his kinship with Bowie in an interview with Billboard the previous year.

"We shared the fact that you don't settle down to a single style of music and sort of milk it until your career is over," he said. "David has more of that Andy Warhol kind of sensibility, a pop sensibility. he always had a well-cultivated self-image, and I never worked that much on my self-image. He was a character whenever you saw him, and I'm only a personal when I'm onstage — if that."

Todd Rundgren , King Crimson’s Adrian Belew , and several other musicians are taking David Bowie ’s music on the road for the 2022 “Celebrating David Bowie” tour. The 30-date trek kicks off in October.

The follow-up to 2017’s inaugural “Celebrating David Bowie” tour this iteration also features Fishbone ’s Angelo Moore , Spacehog ’s Royston Langdon and Jeffrey Gaines, bassist Angeline Saris, drummer Michael Urbano, saxophonist Ron Dziubla, and guitarist Angelo Bundini (otherwise known as Scrote). Together, the musicians will perform cuts from the late artist’s illustrious catalog in cities like Anaheim, Atlanta, Nashville, and Denver. The tour begins October 6th in San Diego and wraps up on November 13th in Phoenix.

You can grab tickets to the upcoming shows via Ticketmaster .

Langdon spoke highly of Bowie in a statement, gushing, “David Bowie was a master. It’s impossible to put into words quite how much he taught me. It gives me a huge thrill to get to honour Mr. B. & to be a small part of this immense celebration of his life & work with these world-class musicians and everyone who, like me, feels his energy alive and vital around me [sic] now just as it was then & forever shall be.”

Bundini, who organized the first Bowie tribute tour and is producing this outing alongside Miles Copeland, said the upcoming run would highlight the intricacies of the artist’s music.

“One of the things we’re doing differently on this tour is featuring a three-guitar attack,” Bundini told Rolling Stone . “David has always been famous for his spectacular guitarists – the epic solos of Mick Ronson, the bluesy feel of Earl Slick, the funkiness of Carlos Alomar and Nile Rodgers, the bombast of Reeves Gabrels, and the otherworldly guitar of Adrian Belew, who is still one of the most original guitarists working today. To explore all of these guitar sides of Bowie’s songs, we’re highlighting Adrian’s brilliance, Todd’s guitar wizardry, and whatever guitar mayhem I can muster in between.”

Later this year, Brett Morgen will share his Moonage Daydream   documentary on the artist.

Meanwhile, the director of the forthcoming Bowie documentary  Moonage Daydream has said that he worked himself so hard on the movie that he suffered a heart attack .

Helmed by Brett Morgen ( Kurt Cobain : Montage of Heck ,  Jane ), the docufilm promises to take viewers on an “immersive” journey via “sublime, kaleidoscopic imagery, personal archived footage, unseen performances” that are anchored by Bowie’s music and words.

It’s the first film to be supported by the David Bowie Estate, which granted Morgen unprecedented access to its collection. Press material says that the Estate presented Morgen with more than five million assets in 2017.

The director has now said his own life was “out of control” when he began work on the film in January of that year. “Just as I started working on this film, I suffered a massive heart attack. I flatlined for three minutes and was in a coma,” Morgen said.

Todd Rundgren reflects on what made David Bowie such a genius — and why he lost interest

todd rundgren adrian belew tour 2022

Todd Rundgren was spending a lot of time in England just as David Bowie's star was on the verge of going supernova.

"'Changes' was rocketing up the charts while I was there,'" he says.

So Rundgren grabbed a copy of the single's parent album, "Hunky Dory," and was immediately taken with the range of the material.

"Most artists tend to just kind of work in one corner of the music world but he was still in, I guess, an experimental or exploratory phase in his career," he says.

"And there was a quality to the songwriting that was very sort of unusual to him. It didn't seem like he was imitating anybody else. And that impressed me. So I started paying close attention to what he was doing."

'The strangest thing I'd ever heard': Remembering David Bowie and his visionary art

Grabbing all his favorite songs for Celebrating David Bowie

Fifty years later, Rundgren is headed to Phoenix on a tribute tour called Celebrating David Bowie, which also features celebrated Bowie sideman Adrian Belew on lead guitar.

The Celebrity Theatre concert on Sunday, Nov. 13, will feature Rundgren singing several of what he refers to as "the early classics," including "Space Oddity," "Life on Mars?" and "Changes."

The key to taking part in tours like this, Rundgren says with a laugh, is "you get in there early and grab the songs you want."

He's also doing a few songs he doesn't like nearly as much.

"Like, I sing 'Young Americans,'" Rundgren says. "And I do it like he does. Like Anthony Newley."

David Bowie's golden years: A playlist of his 20 best songs

Why Todd Rundgren didn't care for David Bowie's 'plastic soul' years

Bowie was hugely indebted to Newley, a musical theater star who scored a dozen U.K. pop hits in his prime, from 1959 to 1962.

"David Bowie was unfortunately blighted by the influence of Anthony Newley," Rundgren says.

"For some reason, he thought that was how you were supposed to sing R&B. Especially when he got to 'Young Americans' and things like that. To me, it just sounded like Anthony Newley trying to be an R&B singer."

Rundgren wasn't necessarily keen on Bowie's "plastic soul" phase, when he played more to the dance floor on hits as huge as "Golden Years" and "Fame," his first chart-topping entry on the Hot 100.

"He became more of a stylist," Rundgren says. "And I lost interest."

Rundgren also felt that Bowie was a better songwriter in the beginning.

"It's probably because he just started to branch out into so many areas like acting and fashion and things like that," he says.

"And the songs became thinner and thinner in a way. You compare the elaborate changes in a song like 'Life on Mars?' — an example of brilliant songwriting — with a song like 'Golden Years,' which essentially is two chords over and over again."

Despite his preference for the earlier material, he says, "That doesn't mean that I don't make a serious attempt to represent the music in a way that I think people want to hear it. You won't have any trouble recognizing any of the songs."

Hello it's him:  Todd Rundgren on how his pop hits differed from the art that followed

Rundgren never felt as tied to glam as David Bowie

Although they were in many ways contemporaries, Rundgren says he never felt as tied to a specific scene as Bowie was to glam.

"My interests were particularly musical," he says.

He did go through what one might safely call a glitter phase in the mid-70s with feathers on his face, heavy makeup and outrageous costumes.

"That was really more the product of a guy I hired to design costumes and do makeup for me," Rundgren says.

"He was probably driven by what David Bowie did, in terms of hair, makeup, spacey costumes, giant psychedelic chaps, all kinds of things that are fun to look at and add a different aspect to a live show. I didn't pursue it that much personally, but I didn't have to because I had someone doing it for me."

Rundgren was still growing into his role as a frontman at the time, having launched his career in 1968 with the Nazz, whose psychedelic self-titled debut had included an early version of his biggest hit, "Hello It's Me."

"I was never a natural performer," Rundgren says. "When I was in the Nazz, I modeled myself after Pete Townshend. I didn't want to be a lead singer. I just wanted to play guitar and flail around in the background.

"And I wrote the songs because we needed songs. You couldn't get a record deal if all you did was cover songs."

That group lasted maybe 18 months, by Rundgren's count.

"And when it was done, I didn't want to be a performer. I just wanted to make records."

'I don't like to write.' Todd Rundgren explains why memoir clocked in at 183 chapters

'I accidentally had a hit'

In 1969, he took a job with Albert Grossman, engineering and producing other people's music.

His first album, "Runt," was "a vanity project," Rundgren says. "I said, 'I've been still writing songs, even though I'm not performing. And I want to make a record.'"

Grossman gave him a recording budget, and Rundgren banged out "Runt," which included the hit single "We Gotta Get You a Woman," with Hunt and Tony Sales, two brothers who went on to play in Tin Machine with Bowie.

Then he dutifully went back to producing other people's music.

"And I accidentally had a hit off that first record," Rundgren says.

"That was encouragement enough to make another record. And another. And eventually I realized I would have to learn how to be a performer. Obviously, David Bowie, from the time he was in high school, had the intent of being a pop star. And I never did."

He also didn't have the vocal stamina to front a band.

"When I had to go out and do my first performances, I was miserable through most of them," he says.

"I couldn't sing for 20 minutes straight. I'd lose my voice. And that's when sets were only 30 minutes."

Rundgren laughs.

"I'd be singing just waiting for a guitar solo to come up," he says.

"But eventually, I resigned myself to the fact that I would have to learn to sing. I found singers I wanted to learn from or emulate. And eventually, things got easier. Now, one of the most enjoyable things in life for me is singing."

'The Beatles worst album?' Todd explains why 'The White Album' doesn't do it for him

'I didn't want to sound like a white kid'

The singers Rundgren did his best to emulate were mostly R&B guys — Stevie Wonder,  Marvin Gaye, Eddie Levert of the O'Jays.

"That was the kind of music I grew up with," Rundgren says.

"I didn't want to sound like a white kid. That was part of the problem in the beginning. That's all I sounded like, was a weak nasal white kid. I wanted to have the vocal power and range of expression of an R&B singer."

Studying those records, trying to learn how they managed to sound the way they did, was all part of his musical journey.

Rundgren also came up with some vocal exercises.

"In one instance, that just consisted of driving around L.A. screaming at the top of my lungs to build up the stamina," he recalls. "I wanted to be able to scream like James Brown."

Concert review:   No smashed guitars, but The Who still lived up to their legend

How David Bowie compares to the Beatles

The last time Rundgren came through Phoenix, he was part of a musical tribute to the Beatles.

"For the most part, all you need is guitars to do the Beatles," Rundgren says. "They're basically a guitar band with occasional other instruments injected into the arrangements.

"David Bowie had a penchant for lots of weird sounds. So you almost couldn't do a David Bowie show without relying on synthesizers."

Recruiting a saxophone player was also of vital importance.

"There's a lot of saxophone throughout, especially in the later years," Rundgren says, noting that Bowie himself played saxophone.

"So when it came to solos, Spiders from Mars aside, he preferred to have a sax solo as opposed to a guitar solo."

When it comes to guitar solos, having Belew on hand to work his magic elevates their tribute to another level. It's also a real treat for Rundgren.

"This is probably one of the few contexts in which Adrian can do what Adrian does and yet we're still doing pop music," he says

"This isn't King Crimson or one of the more conceptual things he does. His playing is  unique. You wouldn't hear it on anyone else's pop records."

'It's just embedded in you in a way.' Todd Rundgren on paying tribute to the Beatles

When Rundgren met Bowie

Rundgren and Bowie crossed paths more than once. They met at Max's Kansas City, just briefly, after Bowie played Radio City Music Hall on the Spiders from Mars Tour.

Years later, Bowie came to check out a video studio Rundgren had opened in upstate New York.

"The irony is that just about the time I left upstate New York for the West Coast, he moved to upstate New York, about two miles from where I'd lived," Rundgren says.

"And he lived there until he died. So it was just a weird kind of ships in the night thing. I guess if there had been more overlap, we might have communicated more."

What was Alice Cooper like in high school? Friends and bandmates share stories

Why Rundgren skipped his Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction

It's been a year since Rundgren took his rightful place, alongside Bowie and the Beatles, in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He skipped his induction ceremony for a gig that night in Cincinnati and hasn't bothered checking out what happened in his absence.

"I never watched the show before that, and I haven't watched the show since then," he says.

The Hall of Fame "never made any sense to me," he says.

"And just getting inducted doesn't make it make more sense automatically. There are still artists I know personally who should be there and never get consideration. That's enough for me to not necessarily feel any special pride or satisfaction."

Still, he's happy for his fans.

"The fans wanted the recognition for me because it's recognition for them, you know?  That they weren't, like, nuts all these years for following me and listening to everything that I did."

Todd rundgren, adrian belew among performers lined up for 2022 celebrating david bowie tribute tour.

M Celebratingdavidbowielogo630 060622

Todd Rundgren is among the well-known music artists who will take part in a new, 2022 edition of the Celebrating David Bowie tribute tour, which is scheduled to visit venues across North America this fall.

The trek kicks off October 6 in San Diego and is currently slated to run through a November 13 performance in Phoenix, with more shows expected to be confirmed in the coming weeks.

The tour was created by veteran guitarist and record producer Angelo Bundini , a.k.a. Scrote , who will also perform on the trek, as will ex- King Crimson guitarist Adrian Belew , Spacehog ‘s Royston Langdon , Fishbone frontman Angelo Moore and singer/songwriter Jeffrey Gaines , along with other musicians.

Tickets for most of the shows will go on sale to the general public this Friday, June 10; visit CelebratingDavidBowie.com for more information.

The 2022 edition of the tour will present an evening of David Bowie music while venturing to answer the question, “What makes Bowie different?”

“This is Major Todd to ground control. I’m stepping through the door,” Rundgren says about taking part in the tour. “In 1973, I met David Bowie and one of us ended up crying. I met David several times after that. Some of our phases, like glam, coincided. David had more of that Andy Warhol kind of sensibility, a pop sensibility.”

Adds Belew, “With such a large catalog to choose from, different songs affect us and the audience in varying measure … It’s always amazing to feel the excitement of a Bowie audience beaming directly at you. Pure adrenaline! So much love for David.”

Scrote, meanwhile, offers, “Fronting the show with revered innovators Todd & Adrian is an incredible honor. We’re looking forward to unleashing a three-guitar attack for an epic ride fueled with songs for every Bowie fan.”

Progressive rock supergroup Beat revisits King Crimson with October show in Cleveland

C LEVELAND, Ohio – Former King Crimson members Adrian Belew and Tony Levin have teamed up with guitar maestro Steve Vai and drummer Danny Carey in a new supergroup called Beat.

That band is taking to the road this fall with a rare, live “creative reinterpretation” of King Crimson’s three illustrious 1980s albums “Discipline,” “Beat” and “Three of a Perfect Pair.”

The tour will include a stop at the Cleveland Agora on Wednesday, October 25.

With guitarist-founder Robert Fripp and percussionist Bill Bruford (Yes, Genesis), Belew and Levin (Peter Gabriel) turned Crimson’s progressive rock stylings of the 1970s upside down. Their lineup, which ran from 1981-1984, peppered New Wave and avant-garde elements into an already eclectic menagerie of sound.

Vai is no stranger to music fans, beginning his music career in 1978 at the age of 18 as a transcriptionist for legendary guitarist-composer Frank Zappa, who Belew played with. Vai has had an illustrious career as a solo artist and lead guitarist for the likes of Whitesnake, David Lee Roth and on Joe Satriani’s annual “G3″ tours.

Carey has been on a years-long arena tour with his main band Tool, which toured with another Belew-fronted incarnation of King Crimson in 2001. Tool features Ravenna-bred Maynard James Keenan on vocals and their last album, 2019′s “Fear Inoculum,” debuted at Number 1 on the Billboard albums chart.

Still with us so far? Here’s where things really get interesting:

Eligible for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame since 1995, King Crimson has been largely ignored.

That year, the Fripp-Belew-Levin-Bruford group added bassist Trey Gunn and drummer Pat Mastelotto to form a “double-trio” version of the band.

This isn’t the first time Belew has formed an alumni supergroup around King Crimson music. In 2012, Belew, Levin and Mastelotto joined the Adrian Belew Power Trio and guitarist Markus Reuter together as the Crimson ProjeKCt. Reuter regularly performs with Levin and Mastelotto as Stick Men .

If you’re not dizzy enough from all these details, consider that Belew has also been touring with Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads) on the “Remain in Light” tour (they’ll be at the Agora Sunday, July 28 ) and on the “Celebrating David Bowie” tour with Todd Rundgren .

Belew served as a guitarist for both of legendary acts.

King Crimson and it many lineups were enshrined in brilliant the 2022 film, “In the Court of the Crimson King: King Crimson at 50.” Sadly, even that wasn’t enough to get the seminal band considered for the Rock Hall.

Tickets will go on sale this Friday, April 5 at 10 a.m. local time at axs.com . Meet and greet and VIP tour packages are available.
