History of Top Gun and Ray-Ban Aviators

Ray-Ban Aviators were created in the 1930s as pilot sunglasses to help shield aviators' eyes from the glare of the sun above the clouds. Over the years, Ray-Ban Aviators became an American icon, often spotted on celebrities from Audrey Hepburn and James Dean to Michael Jackson and Madonna.

The movie "Top Gun" is based on the U.S. Navy's Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor Course, also known as TOPGUN, at the Navy Fighter Weapons School. The school opened in California in 1969 to better train fighter pilots for combat in the Vietnam War. It became famous thanks to "Top Gun," and Ray-Ban Aviators also got their moment in the sun.

Before starring in "Top Gun," Tom Cruise already had ties with Ray-Ban. He wore a pair of classic Ray-Ban Wayfarers in "Risky Business," the racy teen comedy that came out three years earlier in 1983.

In the 2022 movie "Top Gun: Maverick" and in the original 1986 movie "Top Gun," iconic American actor Tom Cruise plays Pete "Maverick" Mitchell. So, who is Maverick? He's a fictional lieutenant and fighter pilot at the U.S. Navy's "Top Gun" school for pilots. He's brave, charismatic and cocky.

Cruise’s previous Top Gun , which premiered 36 years ago this month (look at the actor and then let this fact sink in), led not only to a surge in military recruitment—at least according to Navy recruitment officials but also contributed to '80s aviation-style trends, including bomber jackets and, of course, aviator sunglasses. Ray-Ban's sales apparently jumped 40 percent after the film’s release. Bottom line: If you saw Top Gun in 1986, you either wanted to become a pilot or look like one.

Cruise has done both. He’s since retained a pilot’s license. For Top Gun: Maverick , Cruise even did his own flying, taking the camera into the cockpit and then up into the sky with him—no camera crew or stuntman required. (As producer Jerry Bruckheimer told The Hollywood Reporter , “Every time you see [Cruise] flying, that’s [actually] him in that jet.”)

At the premiere, Cruise exchanged Maverick’s Ray-Ban sunglasses for American Optical’s Original Pilot pair, a slightly updated version of the classic look.

After the success of Top Gun: Maverick , which came close to an Oscar, Tom Cruise recently hinted that he had considered the role of Iron Man in the past. Would he have sported a pair of equally iconic sunglasses?

Well, because in Tom Cruise's movies, sunglasses have often been the protagonists of a captivating and daring style – just like the characters he portrays. By the mid-90s, the actor became one of the most beloved and acclaimed in Hollywood, inspiring the style of generations of fans.

At TBDE, we tried to match a pair of Made in Italy sunglasses with some of the actor's most beautiful films. 

Top Gun, 1986: aviator sunglasses that make you fly

To convince Tom Cruise to film Top Gun in '86, the actor was taken on a plane with the Blue Angels Navy, who made him experience rolls and spins. It seems that he quickly got into the role of Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, a highly skilled pilot with an indomitable character. Leather jackets, bombers, t-shirts, and jeans dominate here. The film Risky Business (1983) was arguably the one responsible for putting Cruise on the Hollywood map. While he had acting gigs prior to this, he was virtually unknown before he took up the role of Joel Goodsen and cemented his presence in the commercially and critically successful film. 

Besides giving him a chance to break out as an actor, the film also highlighted Cruise’s great style. One of the most iconic looks in the film is when he’s wearing a pair of Ray-Ban Wayfarers. Today, this style is among the brand’s most popular in regular and prescription sunglasses .

In the film, Cruise was seen sporting a pair of Oakley Romeo sunglasses. These shades had a unique design that reflected the Y2K trends at the turn of the millennium and also gave Cruise’s character a futuristic edge while doing the action scenes.

While the Oakley Romeo sunglasses were not particularly popular upon release in 1998, Cruise wearing them in the film helped boost its success. This also set the foundation for a long-term relationship between the brand and Cruise. In the latest Mission: Impossible film, Oakley created custom-made goggles for a special motocross stunt. 

Ray-Ban Aviators

Playing Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in Top Gun is another one of Cruise’s most iconic roles, especially as he got to portray a naval fighter with elite flying skills. The role added more to Cruise’s “cool and tough” image, and the accessories he wore in the film also helped with that.

As a naval pilot, it’s only fitting that Cruise wore a classic pair of Ray-Ban Aviators, which is one of the most famous styles of sunglasses in the world. 

Wearing them in one Top Gun film wasn’t enough, as Cruise also sported Aviators in the film’s sequel, which came almost 40 years after the original. While he still had a classic pair of Ray-Bans on, the sequel featured a modern update to the Aviator style and had gradient lenses that reflect the innovations done with sunglasses lens technology in the past years.

Following the release of both films, these iconic shades saw significant sales. Considering that a third Top Gun film is in the works , we can expect Aviators will be under the spotlight again.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Sunglasses – Tom Cruise

The trailer for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning – Part One just dropped and Tom Cruise is running away at top speed from things blowing up again. Hey, it’s what he does. Mission: Impossible 7 is not due out until 2023, but we’re keeping a close eye on the sunglasses featured throughout the newest Tom Cruise action adventure.

It’s early days so we’re still investigating but looking at the trailer frame by frame, there are a few Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Sunglasses to look out for. It’s always fun to look out for Tom Cruise Sunglasses in general, the man has good taste in eyewear and when he needs something more technical he goes for it too.

As seen in the image above, there is a very brief glimpse of Tom Cruise wearing Aviator-style sunglasses in the trailer for Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning . Tom Cruise was of course recently seen wearing Ray-Ban Aviator RB3025 sunglasses in Top Gun: Maverick , though the sunglasses seen here in Mission: Impossible 7 have a more rounded shape and a different bridge style.

Tom Cruise wears Cartier Aviator Style Sunglasses in Mission: Impossible 7

Tom Cruise is known to be a fan of Randolph Sunglasses , so we initially wondered if he could have gotten a pair of Randolphs into the film, though after careful research we have been able to identify the sunglasses in Mission: Impossible 7 as Cartier .

Tom Cruise was seen on the set of Mission: Impossible 7 wearing these sunglasses, which appear to be the same ones featured in the Dead Reckoning movie trailer. On closer inspection, the branding in the top corner of the right lens is clearly the Cartier logo.

The sunglasses worn by Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning are Santos De Cartier Sunglasses – model number CT0038S 016 . These high-end Aviator style sunglasses are gold rimmed and blue with gold mirror lenses. They also include a removable black calfskin leather sweatband on the temples.

These stunning Cartier sunglasses are finished with an identifiable Santos screw decor on the bridge and temples. These really are the sunglasses of choice for the rich and famous. If you’re looking to add these to your collection you may not get much change from $1,000 or £700.

You may need to shop around for these Cartier sunglasses as Mission: Impossible 7 was in production during the pandemic and these may be hard to find by the time the film is released in 2023. We found them on Pret A Voir at the time of writing.

Get the Look on a Budget

Alternatively, if you want to get a similar look for a much cheaper price, we’d suggest going for a pair of Tom Cruise Top Gun sunglasses – the old faithful Ray-Ban Aviator RB3025 sunglasses are easily available on Amazon and you’ll save yourself hundreds!

Tom Cruise Wearing Goggles in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning

Tom Cruise is seen several times throughout the trailer wearing what could be tactical goggles. The first two images here appear to be the same goggles with clear, or lightly tinted lenses. Tom Cruise’s character Ethan Hunt is seen wearing these goggles in a desert environment where they would be essential to protecting the eyes from dust and debris.

The third image here looks like it could be a different pair of goggles altogether or maybe even oversized tactical sunglasses, but it’s pretty hard to see any details from the short clip in the trailer below .

In the 4th image above, Tom Cruise is seen performing an impressive-looking stunt riding a motorcycle off a cliff and freefalling while wearing a pair of white goggles with clear lenses. Perfect for skydiving no doubt. Check out this incredible footage of the stunt filming process.

Although no branding can be seen in any of these images it has been confirmed in a GQ interview that the goggles used in the amazing motorcycle base jump are a custom-designed pair of Oakley ECLP23 goggles created in direct collaboration with Tom Cruise specifically for the movie.

Sadly these Oakley goggles are not currently available for sale but watch this space. Apparently, it is confirmed that there will also be another awesome Oakley X Tom Cruise collaboration in the next movie – Dead Reckoning Part 2 (M:I8), so we are pretty excited to see what they come up with there too.

More Mission: Impossible Sunglasses

Tom Cruise isn’t the only one who gets to wear sunglasses in Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning . While it’s likely that more characters will be seen in a cool pair of shades, these sunglasses worn by Marcello Walton are probably the most striking image from the trailer.

We’re still looking to confirm exactly what sunglasses Marcello Walton is wearing, but they could easily be described as rounded Steampunk-style sunglasses . These even have soft side shields at the temples – popular with Steampunk styles or sometimes seen on sunglasses used in high altitudes, such as mountain locations.

These Side-Shield Sunglasses by Curry & Paxton are a very close match, so if you’re just looking for the style, these could be a good option. Or, you could find a good budget alternative on Amazon here .

Esai Morales Mission: Impossible Sunglasses

The Story Behind Tom Cruise's Custom Oakley Glasses for His Wildest Mission: Impossible Stunt Yet

Skydiving. Motorcycle jumps. Cliff jumping. It’s not a Mission: Impossible movie if Tom Cruise isn’t doing some crazy-ass stunts, and *Dead Reckoning Part 1—*the latest in the franchise, out this week—doesn't hold back in that regard (seriously, this BTS featurette is wild ). It also isn’t a Mission: Impossible if Cruise’s Ethan Hunt is doing said stunts while looking like a total badass (which the actor somehow pulls off at the age of 61, bless).

With a reported $291 million budget, you better believe that every damn detail is considered, and that ranges from meticulously training Cruise on how to jump out of a plane to the very glasses that sit on his face. For the latter, they didn’t just go out and buy some shades at the local gas station—no, they leveraged the help of Oakley, who has been making performance-minded eyewear since 1975.

The end result is surprisingly low-key—a pair of goggles that are so clear and minimal, they’re practically invisible. And yet, so much thought and effort went into making them so. “Without a doubt safety and performance are first,” says Nick Garfias, Oakley’s VP of Design who spearheaded the project. “Then making sure that we designed a goggle that was not going to disrupt his image. This meant a very thin seamless frame, lightweight looking and lightweight feeling.”

Cruise worked with Oakley on past Mission: Impossible films—including the very sick Romeo shades from M:I-2 —so the relationship was already in place. Garfias noted that the movie’s prop master, David Cheesman (whom Garfias calls his “partner in crime”), and Oakley’s own in-house film and TV placement team were key to making this impossible made-to-measure pair, well, possible. After all, they weren’t merely requesting some existing styles but a bespoke frame that could handle some very specific, very high-stakes challenges.

“[We knew] Ethan was going to perform an amazing stunt combination of motorcycle riding and skydiving,” Garfias says. “I believe the ask was pretty straightforward: we had to ensure that this piece of eyewear was going to perform both on a motorcycle as well as the jump and the freefall while skydiving—and of course he had to look good doing it.”

This process started during the pandemic, so the process included the requisite Zoom calls and a full head scan of Cruise to ensure a perfect fit. A key aspect, says Cheesman was Oakley’s 3D printing capabilities, which allowed them to quickly craft mock-ups that were then sent to Cruise and Cheesman for trial—shipped out to the various corners of the world in which they were filming. “We did many iterations because we really needed to make sure that there weren't any unforeseen hiccups,” Garfias said. “We sent multiple versions per week with slight changes to each. Everything was cataloged by serial number so that we could reference the inputs we were receiving from David. We had to make sure that we never compromised optics, fit, fogging, and retention at all times. The only template that we used was the user insights—all from Cruise.” After all you do not, one assumes, want to be the person responsible for ruining Tom’s perfect take (or, worse, ending his life).

It all worked out in the end, of course, and we have a series of white-knuckle action sequences to prove it. While Garfias wasn’t given a special preview, he did say he got to meet Cruise, which was a real highlight. “So much intensity and charisma, but this is what we were used to,” he says. “It's like talking to an athlete. He knew exactly what he wanted, what he didn’t want and why. He really leaned on us for the innovation and creativity while maintaining a great piece of performance that he can rely on in the most tense moments in the filming.”

As for what Oakley has coming up, Garfias hints that a consumer-ready version may hit stores—and that another custom pair is on the way for next year's Dead Reckoning Part 2 . 

“Wait to see what we have prepared with Tom on MI8,” Garfias says.

On the list of overused fashion terms, “updated classic” ranks pretty high. But in the case of the latest product from the Italian eyewear masters at Persol , it feels like a pretty apt descriptor.

This week, the brand released a few new takes on its PO3225S model—more commonly known as the shades Tom Cruise’s character Brian Flanagan wore in the 1988 classic Cocktail . In the film, Flanagan attempts to raise money for business school by working as a shaker-slinging bartender and eventually moves to Jamaica to serve his high-flying cocktails on the beach. The shades are prominently featured during a scene in which Flanagan is being berated by a customer at an all-inclusive resort for a free cocktail. His love interest, Jordan Mooney (played by Elizabeth Shue) runs up to the bar and asks him to help a friend who’s passed out on the beach, and Flanagan and his shades spring into action.

The sunglasses offer a heft and stance that are about as bold as any other memorable pair from that decade: They feature a boxy shape with a straight top bar, while preserving a handful of Persol’s signifiers. The keyhole bridge, taken straight from the 649 sunglasses Steve McQueen helped make famous, is still there, as is the distinctive sword-shaped metal accent that connects the frames to the temple.

From a design perspective, they don’t differ all that much from the ’80s originals. But what this new batch of sunglasses offers instead is the choice of six shades of the brand’s well-known, durable acetate. Right now, you can pre-order polarized versions in black or brown tortoise for $360, or you can choose from black and three other tortoise frames for $310.

Persol 2978 - Tom Cruise - Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol

In the movie Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol , Tom Cruise sports a pair of Persol sunglasses, that have been identified as Persol PO2978S sunglasses.

The glasses have a tortoise frame (color code 24/31). Tom Cruise also sports a pair of Oakley glasses in the same film, and actor Jeremy Renner also wears a pair of (yet unidentified) Persol sunglasses.

Update 2023: The Persol 2978 is not available, but you can find similar Persol frames on Amazon .

And there’s no better way to see the world differently than through a beautiful pair of sunglasses.

I own at least a dozen pairs, of varying cost and quality — Gucci, l.a. Eyeworks, Persol, Garrett Leight and maybe one or two from the bin at CVS. But if I were to imagine the ideal vacation, I’d wish for these Cartier Signature C sunglasses to fall out of the sky and into my lap. A striking pair of sunglasses recontextualizes your entire face, hiding your eyes and wrapping you in a sense of mystery that otherwise wouldn’t be there on your same old lumpy visage. They also shroud the environment around you in a smoky haze, making everything you see more dramatic.

The Cartier Signature Cs are rimless and come in a variety of colors, with my personal pick being the green lenses. So your vacation is going to be kind of green most of the time. But that revision of the natural is what dreams are all about. Real dreams don’t usually take place in normal colors. They’re black and white or red or blue tinted. The gold finish on the temples is what justifies the exorbitant price tag and commands attention. There’s a gentle curve to the bridge at the front of the frames and what almost looks like horseshoes on the hinges that connect the temples to the lenses. In all dreams, there’s a bit of whimsy.

Trying on the Signature Cs is an experience unto itself. Cartier’s store is one big fantasy world, filled with objects most people can’t afford but lust after. It’s a favorite of the famous and the would-be famous. Seeing Timothée Chalamet in a Cartier Crash watch recently made me want to sell all my plasma just to afford a knockoff. Tom Cruise wore a pair of Cartier aviators in the latest “Mission: Impossible” film , and Michael Douglas wore a showstopping pair as the loathsome Gordon Gekko in “Wall Street.” Larger-than-life shades for larger-than-life characters. The Cartier store is as lofty as the celebrities that wear their goods, intimidating to a normal human being like me. I tried on the Signature Cs and immediately wanted to take them off. Not only did I not want to break them and be on the hook for more than a grand in product but I also just didn’t feel like I should be wearing them. More so than even the fancier frames I own, this felt like fighting above my weight class. I shuffled out as soon as possible.

For most, sunglasses are a disposable item — something to lose on a long flight or sit on by accident. My girlfriend has gone through more than a few pairs in the two years we’ve been together. It’s what keeps most people from investing in a pair of luxury sunglasses. They can’t be investment pieces, because they are sure to vanish eventually. This is why I dream about the Signature Cs. I can’t think of anything more luxurious than taking something disposable and elevating it; to be so rich and fancy that something people accidentally drop in a sewer drain or leave in a hotel bathroom while on vacation can cost $1,200.

In the grand vacation of my dreams, I’m by the pool most of the day. Everyone I meet flashes a smile at me because I’m so interesting. But why is it that we dream in broad daylight? What makes us yearn for something more than what is there in front of us, especially here, in L.A., of all places? For decades, people have been coming to Los Angeles to chase their dreams. As a great woman once said, “ We come to this place for magic .” You hope that in L.A. you will be discovered, respected, elevated and understood. For most, that doesn’t happen, or it does on a much smaller scale than what they imagined. And not everyone’s dreams are the same, of course, though I suppose you could say most of them involve being rich. Even if you don’t explicitly want to be rich, the natural byproduct of success in the entertainment industry.

The reality of life here, the necessity of survival , and the limits of one’s ambition chip away at the dream day by day. Paying your ever-increasing rent, bowing to the whims of trillion-dollar conglomerates that see your work as merely a line on a spreadsheet, and boy, how about that traffic? Eventually, you roll your eyes when people talk about how hard it is to live in L.A., because you’re doing it . It’s not a dream, it’s reality. So, what does one do when they live in the Dream Factory (or, Dream Factory-Adjacent, if you are trying to save money)? They leave.

Vacations are a thing not everyone can afford. Just the act of picking up and escaping the city is itself a luxury. A pair of sunglasses, even modest ones, can connect the wearer to the feeling of being in paradise. That paradise might be Van Nuys, but that’s all connected to perception. How you look at a strip mall or a gas station defines what it is and what it means. Maybe you can’t stand eating the same food or looking at the same faces every day, but have you considered that here, in L.A., you are living a version of the dream that brought you here? Maybe you can’t afford sunglasses that cost $1,200 (you probably can’t), but you can always find a new way to see the world. And that’s actually free.

Tom Cruise brought down the house at Victoria Beckham’s star-studded 50th birthday party .

The “Top Gun: Maverick” star, 61, “absolutely dumbfounded” guests Saturday night by breakdancing and doing splits, a fellow partygoer told the Daily Mail Monday.

Cruise, who has known Victoria and her husband, David Beckham, for nearly two decades, has been living in the UK while filming “Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two,” which is expected to hit theaters next year.

The “Risky Business” star was dressed to the nines for the occasion in a classic black tuxedo with a bow tie and shiny black shoes.

Cruise was far from the only A-lister who attended Victoria’s grand fête in London.

All of the fashion designer’s fellow Spice Girls — Melanie “Mel C” Chisholm, Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell and Melanie “Mel B” Brown — also showed up for the festivities.

The girl group even staged an impromptu reunion to perform their 1997 hit song “Stop” for the attendees.

Victoria had her party at the private members’ club Oswald’s and stunned in a celestial sheer mint gown featuring ruffled details along the hem.

The guest of honor arrived on crutches after breaking her foot during a workout earlier this year, but she did not let the injury stop her from going all out for her milestone birthday.

She was joined by her athlete husband, who was dressed in a tux, as well as their four children: sons Brooklyn, 25, Romeo, 21, and Cruz, 19, and daughter Harper, 12.

Other stars at the soirée included Gordon Ramsay and Eva Longoria.

Notably absent from the momentous occasion was Brooklyn’s wife, Nicola Peltz, who instead spent time with her grandmother .

The “Bates Motel” actress, 29, shared a photo with her grandma on her Instagram Story but also made sure to send her mother-in-law some birthday love.

“Happy Birthday to my beautiful MIL @victoriabeckham,” she wrote in another Instagram Story. “I’m so sad I’m not there to celebrate you and hug you! Sending all my love from me and Naunni.”

Peltz and Victoria were rumored to have feuded during the former’s 2022 wedding to Brooklyn .

They allegedly butted heads over wedding planning, and tensions were also high after the bride decided to wear a wedding gown not made by Victoria’s fashion house.

However, Peltz denied she had any beef with the former pop star and explained that she could not wear a dress by Victoria’s eponymous brand due to timing issues.

“I was going to and I really wanted to, and then a few months down the line, she realized that her atelier couldn’t do it, so then I had to pick another dress,” she  told Variety  at the time.

“She didn’t say ‘you can’t wear it;’ I didn’t say I didn’t want to wear it. That’s where it started, and then they ran with that.”

Brooklyn also  denied there was any bad blood between his wife and mom.

Victoria and Peltz appear to have mended their relationship, as they have posted sweet messages about each other on social media numerous times since.

What to Know About Victoria Beckham’s 50th Birthday

Posh Spice had a party involving tequila, Tom Cruise, Salma Hayek — and a rare performance by all five Spice Girls.

A 50th birthday is a major milestone in any woman’s life — though not everyone has to step into it like Victoria Beckham, who not long ago broke her foot in a gym accident. Still, Mrs. Beckham was determined to celebrate in style in London on Saturday, when, at least for one night, she replaced the medical boot she has been wearing for months with pointed toe stilettos, visible panties and a long sheer sea-foam-green gown from her own label.

“As I get ready to step into 50 (in heels, of course!), I feel so incredibly blessed to have reached this milestone,” she wrote in an Instagram post last week. “Blessed, but also accomplished and deeply content. This is the beginning of an exciting new chapter, and I’m only just getting started.”

Here’s what happened at the big birthday bash thrown by the fashion designer and former Spice Girl.

The Location

The party took place at Oswald’s, an exclusive private member’s club owned by Robin Birley in the Mayfair neighborhood of London. Mr. Birley, London’s king of clubs, named Oswald’s after his grandfather, whose portrait hangs behind the reception desk.

The club is known to attract a who’s who of guests. When Beyoncé was in town last year, she headed to Oswald’s. When Princess Eugenie celebrated her wedding anniversary, she did it at Oswald’s. When former prime ministers like Tony Blair and Boris Johnson book date nights with their wives? Oswald’s. Don’t believe us? You’ll have to take our word for it: The club has strict policies against taking photos and using social media accounts.

The Guest List

Of course David Beckham, Mrs. Beckham’s husband of 25 years, was there, as were their four children Romeo, Cruz, Harper and Brooklyn, who were all dressed in black and white. Brooklyn’s wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham, didn’t attend but made it very clear she was sad to miss out via a gushy Instagram post .

Among the 100 invited guests were a constellation of Mrs. Beckham’s celebrity friends, including Tom Cruise, Eva Longoria, Salma Hayek, François-Henri Pinault, Marc Anthony, Guy Ritchie and Gordon Ramsay. Guests also included all four of Mrs. Beckham’s former Spice Girls bandmates: Geri Halliwell-Horner (Ginger), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty), Melanie Brown (Scary) and Emma Bunton (Baby).

The Entertainment

Party guests — and the internet — went into meltdown after Mr. Beckham, 48, posted a video on Instagram of his wife and the other Spice Girls dancing and singing to their 1997 hit single “Stop.”

“I mean come on,” Mr. Beckham captioned the 12-second video, his head bobbing up and down in front of the five women, who have not performed together publicly since the London Olympics in 2012. Mrs. Beckham later reposted the video on her own account, writing: “Best night ever! Happy Birthday to me! I love you all so much!” and accompanying the caption with the hashtag “Spice Up Your Life.”

According to The Daily Mail, tequila (Mrs. Beckham’s tipple of choice) was well and truly flowing. Mr. Cruise, 61, was said to be doing splits on the dance floor in the early hours, after helping up a photographer who tripped on the sidewalk earlier in the night. The Telegraph said that guests were treated to goody bags full of Victoria Beckham branded goods, including a candle and a fragrance.

Ms. Brown, better known as Scary Spice, hinted at a potential reunion for the Spice Girls when she reposted Mr. Beckham’s video on her Instagram Stories, writing: “About last night #tourdatescomingsoon.”

The clearest signs of a successfully spicy night could be found in the last paparazzi photos of Mrs. Beckham leaving her party at 2:30 a.m., in sunglasses, via a piggyback from her husband, who carried her straight into a waiting limo. No word to the press regarding headaches the following morning.

The film, which will premiere on Netflix worldwide outside the U.K., where it will have a first-release window on the BBC, is the second feature from Aardman Animations based on the beloved characters, following the Oscar-winning Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005) and the series of award-winning shorts, including Oscar-winners The Wrong Trousers (1993) and A Close Shave (1995). The series, created by Zack Snyder, Jay Olivia and Eric Carrasco, is a retelling of ancient Norse myths and features the voice talents of Sylvia Hoeks, Stuart Martin, Pilou Asbaek, Kristopher Hivju, Peter Stormare, and Corey Stoll, among others. The series hits Netflix worldwide this fall. The second half of Synder’s live action sci-fi saga Rebel Moon dropped on Netflix on April 19.

On the comedy side, Big Mouth co-creators Nick Kroll, Andrew Goldberg, Jennifer Flackett and Mark Levin will head to Annecy for a festival send off for the seventh and final season of the hit series.

For the festival’s work-in-progress sessions, British writer/director Richard Curtis ( Four Weddings and a Funeral , Love Actually ) and animation veteran Simon Otto ( How to Train Your Dragon ) will discuss their upcoming animated feature That Christmas , an adaptation of Curtis’ holiday book trilogy, which Otto will direct and which will feature Succession star Brian Cox as the voice of Santa and the voice talents of Brit stars Jodie Whittaker, Bill Nighy and Fiona Shaw, among others.

Annecy will unveil its full 2024 lineup later this week.
