Itineray of our 3 Days Komodo Island boat tour :

Day 1 : labuan bajo – kelor  – manjarite – kalong.

A driver will pick you up around 8.30am to your hotel. At the harbour you will be welcome by your guide who will present you the facilities of the boat, give you the safety instructions and describe you the itinerary of your komodo trip.

Our first destination will be Kelor Island. Kelor is a small uninhabited island. You will enjoy a peaceful atmosphere and unspoiled nature, get around and enjoy sightseeing. Indeed the water is clear and the sand is soft. Numerous types of fishes also live in the water, including clown fishes also named Nemo.

Then we will have lunch at Manjarite. Manjarite is an excellent spot for snorkeling. There is shallow crystal clear water with minimum waves. You can find various colorful fishes such as clownfish, scorpionfish, angelfish and even blue ribbon eels. There is also a narrow and long wooden pier, almost 300 meters long from where you can take some nice pictures.

After that we will enjoy the sunset in Kalong Island. Kalong is a small island covered by mangroves. It’s the home of thousands of bats. At the end of the day, when daylight is replaced by darkness, they leave their nest to get some food. The sky will be covered by these majestic creatures.

Day 2: Padar – Pink Beach – Komodo – Manta Point – Taka Makassar

Then the next morning, we will sail to Padar. Padar Island is the third largest island in Komodo National Park after Komodo and Rinca Islands. For those who love photographic, this is perhaps the best place for spectacular photos. From the top of the hill you will enjoy a surreal panorama. It’s all surrounded by three turquoise bays, and curiously, each one of the bays’ beaches has different coloured sand: One is pearly white, another charcoal black, and a third is a very rare baby pink. As a matter of fact, it is a rare combination, a quirk of this unique island.

Then in the morning we will relax at Pink Beach which has pink sand along its coastline. Furthermore, the pink color is caused by the mixture of white calcium carbonate and the bright red skeletons of dead organ pipe corals which grow under its waters. Pink Beach also has various kind of amazing marine life and coral reefs. Indeed this is the perfect place to play with our full faced mask. Lunch will be served on site.

Then we will head to Komodo Island. It’s also the best place to meet the Komodo dragons. However, you could also see other wild animals, such as water buffalo, wild boar, horses, Timor deer and macaques. There is also great diversity of birds.

Manta Point

After that we will go to Manta Point. Manta Point offers excellent snorkeling experience. In fact the reefs are laying from only 2 meters to 9 meters depth. It’s the perfect place to spot manta rays, a huge marine creature that can grow up to 4 meters wide. Manta Rays are one of the extinct animal on earth. Turtles, sharks, eagle rays, giant trevallies, huge clams, various kind of sponges, and cuttlefish are marine animals you may see during your snorkeling expedition.

Taka Makassar

At the end of the day, we will enjoy the sunset from Taka Makassar. Taka Makassar is a tiny island smaller than a football field. It has a peculiar shape of a drop, with white sand mixed with pink sand. It is surrounded by shallow turquoise waters that looks too good to be true ! It only comes up during the time when the seawater is receding. Meanwhile, when the sea level rises, it will almost submerge underwater.

Day 3 : Siaba Besar – Kanawa – Labuan Bajo

After the breakfast, we will head to Siaba Besar. It’s also called the turtles nest. If we are lucky, we will be able to swim with them.

Then we will go to Kanawa Island. It’s considered as one of south-east Asia’s most idyllic islands, fully surrounded by spectacular reef. Snorkeling around Kanawa, in the pristine waters will make you discover thousands of fish species, turtles, corals and reef sharks, sometimes it is possible to see some mantas just around the arrival jetty. At the center of the island a hill guarantees astonishing 360 degrees views all over Komodo National Park

Departure : Please arrive at Labuan Bajo one day prior the departure for this komodo trip. We will pick up you at your hotel early morning.

Arrival : We will be back at Labuan Bajo after lunch around 2-3pm so you can book your flight back at the end of the afternoon. The airport is just 15min away.

3 Day Komodo Boat Trip Guide to see Komodo Dragons & Padar Island

Boating through the Indonesian islands to see Komodo Dragons was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Not only did we see these ancient beasts, we saw spectacular sunsets, pink beaches, manta rays and islands that are so beautiful they don't even look real!

Our comprehensive guide will explain how to book your Komodo boat trip, the best places to see and what you can expect on your trip.

3 Day Komodo Boat Trip Guide

Is this experience for you.

We want to mention that this is not a luxury cruise by any means. You will be cruising the sea on a wooden boat with a basic toilet, washroom and bedroom. The weather is also sweltering at times. Although the kitchen is small, we couldn't believe the variety of food that the chef was able to make. It was delicious!

Having a private tour allowed us to have the top deck of the boat all to ourselves. We enjoyed lounging on the chaise lounges located in the shade and watching the scenery go by. With a group tour it may feel crowded on the boat.

We chose a boat without air conditioning to save on the price, but it was so hot in our sleeping cabin that we slept on our lounge chairs instead. We found it fun to sleep on the top deck, but it's definitely something for you to consider.

We went into the experience not having expectations of the amenities and we had a great time. If you're up for an adventure cruise, it will not disappoint!

How long should you go for?

We recommend going for 2 nights/3 days to see the best of the area. We went for 3 nights/4 days and it was one day too much. Our days on our Komodo tour were so jam-packed, we were physically exhausted from the heat, snorkelling, hiking and our sleeping conditions. A 2 night/3 day Komodo tour would have been perfect.

10 Must-See Places in the Komodo area

There are 10 spots in the area that were our favourites. They shouldn't be missed! We customized our Komodo tour to make sure we saw them all. In three days you should be able to see all 10 spots.

Padar Island

Our favourite island for its beauty was Padar Island. The shape of the island is most unique we've ever seen . When you take the short hike up to the viewpoint you will see a birds-eye view of the green volcanic mountains, a black sand beach, a pink beach, and a white beach! Watching the sunset from here was a perfect moment.

Komodo Island

Komodo Island is the first of two islands where you will be able to see Komodo dragons. When you arrive at the island you are assigned a local guide who takes you around the island. Right when we arrived we saw Komodo Dragons by the entrance. It seemed like they were sleeping or had eaten a lot and were too lazy to move. They can eat up to 80% of their body weight in ofne sitting! As we kept walking, we saw some dragons walking around slithering their cute, skinny long tongue.  It was a surreal experience seeing these giant venomous lizards that can grow up to 10 feet!

Top Tip: bring small cash with you so you can tip your local guides.

Rinca Island

Rinca island is the lesser known island with Komodo Dragons and feels wilder than Komodo Island. When we arrived at the dock we could see Komodo dragons lounging on the beach. Once we got in the park, our local guide gave us optional hikes we could take to find Komodo Dragons in their natural surroundings. We chose a 45-minute hike that gave us a pretty viewpoint of the island.

When we arrived back at the entrance we were looking at some trinkets for sale when out of nowhere we heard someone yelling and a saw a Komodo Dragon running very fast down the path towards us! We jumped out of the way. We couldn't believe how fast the Komodo dragon could run! The giant lizard wasn't running to eat us, but to run away from the ranger who was shooing it out of the tourist only zone.

Out of Komodo Island and Rinca, we preferred Rinca, but it's worth it to go to both to increase your probability of seeing the dragons.

Manta Ray Point

Snorkelling with manta rays was one of our top experiences. They are huge and grow 3-7 meters wide! It was a magnificent moment swimming with these beautiful creatures. They are not dangerous or harmful to humans. Sometimes we saw them doing flips out of the water when boating around!

Pink beach was one of our favourite beaches to relax and swim at. It was tranquil and so relaxing. Is the sand actually pink? Yes subtly, but not like some of the over-edited pictures show on Instagram! The sand might not be as bright pink as you expect from pictures, but the grains of sand really are pink and have a true natural beauty.

Taka Makassar

We nicknamed this beach "snake island" because of its shape. The swimming here is fantastic. The white sand bar is like something you see in a movie where a person on a dinghy washes up on shore. Paradise would not be found for that person though, since there is no shade!

Kelor Island

Kelor Island will likely be the first stop on your trip as it's the closest to the port town Labuan Bajo. The tiny island has a steep little hill you can walk up to see a view of the sandbar and the crystal clear sea below. Once you're done your mini hike you can reward yourself by going for a dip in the water.

Kalong Island

When you visit Kalong Island, you won't actually step foot on the island but anchor your boat to wait for sunset. Once the sun sets, thousands of bats fly out of the forest to find their prey. It's like a scene out of a scary movie. It's the real life version of Night on Bald Mountain from Fantasia. The flying foxes (fruit bats) are large with scalloped wings and have a wingspan of up to 1.5 meters long! It was a very cool experience.

Rinca Fishing Village

We didn't expect to be moved by a little fishing village. This is the place where you can really see the local islander way of life. Our guide recommended visiting here and we are so happy we did. When we stepped foot in the tiny village, we saw many kids splashing around in the water having fun. Lots of them excitedly ran up to us smiling and waving saying "HELLO MISS"!

It was a culture shock to see how little the people had material-wise compared to back home. No internet, no air conditioning. The traditional wooden houses were built on stilts and didn't provide much privacy. We felt silly that we were starting to break after a few days from the heat and no air conditioning. We were inspired by how happy and content the people appeared. We didn't see one face without a smile and they were all so friendly. They never once asked us for money. In fact, when we bought some candies and Coca-Cola from a little store and said they could keep the change, the lady instead gave us tons more candy!

We wished we would have known beforehand about the village, because we would have brought soccer balls and school supplies for the kids! They are so cute.

Places that were underwhelming

Everywhere on the island is beautiful, but there were a couple places that weren't as spectacular as our top spots mentioned above. We visited Gili Lawa, but were underwhelmed with the snorkelling compared to other spots. The island is beautiful for sunset, but we preferred Padar Island.  

Kanawa Island was underwhelming since there is a small resort there. It didn't feel as wild and authentic as the other spots.

How to Book Your Komodo Boat Tour Guide

There are many companies that offer boat excursions through the Komodo islands. The things you should look for in a tour company are:

• 4.5-5 star rating on Tripadvisor (read the reviews!)
• If they offer private or group tours. We were looking for a private tour.
• A guide that speaks good English (or whichever language you prefer)
• Good value in price compared to others. Ensure all meals, park fees, snorkelling, and tracking fees are included in the tour price.
• If the boat has air conditioning

Checking the reviews on Tripadvisor is the most important thing to make sure they are an established and trustworthy company. My sister and I travelled together alone and we would have been anxious on our private tour with a crew of four men if we didn't have the reassurance from positive traveller reviews.

The company we chose was Indonesian Boat Trip . The price was right for us and we were able to customize our trip to see the places we wanted. We felt safe with our friendly crew and the boat. The food that came out of the kitchen was awesome!

Most of the companies do not list their prices online. Reach out to your favourites and ask for a quote.

Best time to visit Komodo Island

The best time to visit the Komodo area is during dry season from April to mid-October. Mid-October to December is also a decent time with plenty of sunshine, but some rain. We visited the Komodo islands during the end of December. We saw some rain storms in the distance, but it never rained on us once. Each day we had tons of sun and it was very hot.

You can see manta rays all year long, but you will see the most of them between December-February. However, January-February is very rainy, so we wouldn't recommend visiting during this time.

How to get to Komodo Island

The starting point of your tour is from the port town of Labuan Bajo. It is a quick one-hour flight from Denpasar, Bali. Be careful when choosing the airline for your flight, because some Indonesian airlines have low safety ratings. We chose Garuda Indonesia since it has a high safety rating .

Our Komodo tour company picked us up at the airport and we began our tour from there!

How much will your Komodo Boat tour cost?

Your Komodo tour will vary in price depending on the number of days you go, if you get a private tour and if you have air conditioning. Make sure you contact multiple companies for quotes!

In 2018 our private 4 day tour with no air conditioning cost us 7,400,000 IDR (~$500 USD) each. This was including all of our meals, drinks, park fees and snorkelling gear. We had four crew members on board with us and made sure we brought enough cash to tip them at the end.

What to bring on your boat trip to Komodo Island

Don't forget to bring these essentials:

• Sunscreen (high SPF!)
• Rash guard for snorkelling. Trust us, a bikini won't cut it on your third day of snorkelling. That sun is hot!
• Breathable pants and shirts (you can buy these in Bali beforehand for cheap)
• Hiking shoes
• Shorts and tank top for hiking
• Beach coverup
• Playing cards
• Headphones to listen to music
• Soft drinks and candies. Our tour came with coffee, tea and water, but it was nice having a sugary snack.
• Power bank. The outlets only work when the engines are on.
• Hair elastics
• Toilet paper
• Toiletries (natural shampoo, conditioner, body wash)
• Notepad and pen
• Kindle or books

Taking a Komodo Island-Hopping Boat Tour is the best activity you can do on any trip to Indonesia. Typically visited on multi-day tours through the Komodo Islands Archipelago, Komodo Cruises do not set sail directly from Bali, but from the islands of Flores and Lombok. You need at least 3-days to visit the Komodos, and many travelers (including myself) consider it the highlight of their trip to Bali & Indonesia – Trust me, the Komodos are well worth visiting!

All About Komodo National Park

Komodo National Park is a famous UNESCO world heritage site in Indonesia that became popular around 10 years ago with travelers looking to go beyond Bali to find pristine beaches and adventure. Komodo National Park is composed of almost  thirty separate islands,  some huge and some  super tiny. 

Each island in Komodo is incredibly distinct and worth a visit, and while you could just pick one island and stay as there are a few Resorts in Komodo National Park, most people choose to go “island hopping” and stay overnight on a boat instead.

🚨 UPDATE! 🚨 The Indonesian government has decided to scrap the idea to raise prices to Komodo Island! The entrance fee remains 550K ($35) for foreigners and 250K ($16) for Indonesians! 

There have been some issues in the past few years about the future of tourism in Komodo National Park. In 2019 Nine men were arrested for  stealing and trafficking Komodo Dragons  to sell overseas, which is both highly illegal and  terrible  for the natural Komodo Dragon population. The Indonesian government first planned to completely shut Komodo Island off from tourism as a response, and the locals who live off of the tourism generated by the park protested. The new plan is to raise the cost of entrance to Komodo National Park from what it is now, around 550K ($35) for foreigners, and 250K ($16) for Indonesians, to around 3.75 million Rupiah ($244). 

Locals from Labuan Bajo and the Komodo Islands who depend on tourism have been actively protesting the price hike, as they see it as a direct attack on their economy – as of right now, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens! What does seem certain at this time is that even if they increase the admission price to Komodo National Park, the Indonesian government seems to have lost interest in closing the islands for tourism completely. 

Where Is Komodo Island Located?

Komodo Island is located in Komodo National Park, which is a cluster of islands off the coast of Flores. Flores is an island in the Indonesian Archipelago that belongs to the East Nusa Tenggara Province. You can see on the map that Komodo & Flores are far east of the island of Bali, where most travelers fly to. The islands of Lombok and Sumbawa lie between Bali and Komodo National Park, making overland transport between the two islands difficult.

How To Get To Komodo From Bali

• The “Backpackers Boat” departs from Lombok , and most travelers choose to visit the Gili Islands first as a stopover from Bali. 
• The Classic Komodo Cruise   departs from Labuan Bajo , in Flores. The only way to get there from Bali is by flying. 

Best Time To Visit Komodo National Park

Indonesia doesn’t have winter, spring, summer, and fall – instead, they only have two seasons: the dry and the wet. You’ll want to visit Komodo National Park during the dry season which stretches from April – to October. I sailed in Komodo at the beginning of the wet season in November and didn’t have any problems with the weather personally, but the people who sailed the weekend before me in mid-November had it rain the whole weekend!  So it’s better to go in the dry season if you can. 

Do You Need A Tour To Visit Komodo?

YES – You 100% need a tour to enter Komodo National Park. It’s actually  illegal  to visit the Komodo Islands without a guide, plus they can only be accessed via boat. So, it’s not a DIY kind of tourist location and you need a tour. 

Is Komodo worth visiting from Bali?

Komodo National Park is not an  easy  place to visit from Bali, since you need multiple days to explore the Komodo Islands + you have to take a short flight to Flores. But, in my personal opinion, it’s one of the most worthwhile things you can do in Indonesia.

💰Prices & How To Book A Komodo Boat Tour

If you’re interested in taking the backpackers’ boat, I recommend the company Wanua Adventures, and they only accept cash. For all other Komodo Cruises, you have the option to book online through  Klook , which is a popular tour provider in Indonesia that accepts foreign credit cards.

💰 Budget Tip: Do know that most companies selling rooms on Komodo Open Boat Tours are intermediaries, and charge different amounts for the same tour depending on who you book through – In my experience, for open tours it’s cheaper to book online, for private boat charters it might be cheaper to book in person.

How To Book A Komodo Open Tour

The classic Komodo Cruises that start and end in Labuan Bajo, Flores, can be booked online ahead of time. These tours can be “Open Tours” which means you’re just booking a spot. Usually, the open tours have up to 12 passengers on a boat. Or, you can book a Private Boat  tour where you charter the entire boat and crew for larger groups or families – As a solo traveler, I just booked a spot on an “Open Tour” – You have the option to get a room with bunk beds, usually a room of four, or a private room for a higher fee.

💰 Price of a Classic/Luxury Komodo Cruise: The luxury Komodo boat tours aren’t fixed rates and vary in price by the type of boat and room you book. My Luxury Komodo Cruise was only around $250 per person, only $50 more than the backpackers’ option, but it was a 2-night tour instead of 3, and I was sharing a room with three friends.

💡 Tip: You need to bring cash to pay the entrance fee to Komodo National Park! It’s currently 550K Indonesian Rupiah ($35) per person.

9 Things You Can Do on a Komodo Boat Tour

1. visit taka makassar island .

Taka Makassar is technically a sandbar in the middle of the Komodo Sea, and it would be paradise – IF it weren’t for the 100 other people there when we went 😅. Our boat pulled up at the same time all the other tours did, so it was a bit too crowded to be enjoyable. But I’ve seen some people take private tours to Taka Makassar that make it look like a true paradise! 

2. Watch The Bats Make Their Sunset Migration At Kalong Island 

Every day at sunset the bats fly out from Kalong Island, where they all nest as a herd, to go hunt for the night. It’s truly an  amazing  experience to watch the hoards of bats fly out into the sunset! 

Around 6 PM you see the cruise ships, tiny fishing boats, and luxury Phinisis all dock to watch the migration. At first, the migration just looks like a flock of birds, then when you look closely you see the distinct outlines of the bat wings. While that sounds kind of intense, our guide told us that there are two types of bats on Kalong Island. There are large bats and teeny tiny ones. The large bats look scarier, but these are just harmless fruit bats.  It’s the tiny breed of bats on Kalong Island that actually drink blood (creepy!), but they never attack people, just animals. 

💡  Note:  If you’re afraid of Bats, don’t worry! The boats are parked at a distance. 

3. Swim With The Giant Manta Rays (!!!!) At Manta Point

Having the opportunity to swim with the Giant Manta Rays at Komodo’s Manta Point was the main reason I decided to take a second boat tour of the islands. 

When we set off to do this excursion on the second day, the guides were trying to prepare us from disappointment in case there weren’t any mantas around. They are wild animals after all, and while the tour operators know their migration patterns it’s not a 100% guarantee you will see them. 

I’m happy to report that this experience completely surpassed my expectations. I was swimming along with at least 10 giant manta rays in an ocean corridor where they flock. 

Have you ever seen Finding Nemo? That movie was one of my favorites as a kid – there’s one scene where the main character Nemo and his little friends are off to school, and the “school bus” is a giant Manta Ray where all the little fish hop on. 

One of the coolest things to see was that this scene from the movie was based on real life! There were a ton of tiny little fish swimming under the Giant Manta Rays in Komodo National Park – just like in the movie! (Although it was too far for me to see if any of them were Clown Fish, like Nemo). 

🚨  NOTE!!!   This activity is best for strong swimmers! You’re given fins and a life vest, but the current is very rough where the Manta Rays swim. It’s not dangerous, but if you’re not a strong swimmer you might only get a glimpse of them. 

🚩 Ethical Issues  – The Manta Rays at Manta Point in Komodo National Park aren’t fed, and you’re observing them from a good 10-20 foot distance, so   swimming with the Manta Rays was an ethical animal encounter! 

4. Go Kayaking At Pink Beach

This was a fun add-on to the nicer Komodo Cruise I took – Not only did they have  working  snorkels (the luxury!) they also brought some kayaks for the guests to enjoy. My friend and I took out the kayaks at Pink Beach and there was no tide on the crystal-clear blue water, making it super easy for us to explore the whole bay. We kayaked around all the boats docked at Pink Beach and the photographer on our tour took some  gorgeous  drone shots of us while we were out having fun that I’ll treasure for the rest of my life <3. 

5. Spot Seaturtles While Snorkeling <3 

This isn’t so much an activity as just something you’ll run into if you spend time swimming around the Komodo Islands. The wildlife in Komodo National Park is so vibrant. However, even though on our last day on the Backpackers’ Boat we stopped off at “Turtle Point”, I had way better luck spotting seaturtles at the snorkel spots the second boat tour took us to. 

Our guide was great about pointing out wild seaturtles to us, I think we saw  three  (!!!) while snorkeling from Manta Ray Point to Taka Makassar Island. 

6. Experience The Glowing Bioluminescence While Night Swimming

Again, this isn’t even a part of a Komodo Tour – it’s just another AMAZING thing you will experience in Komodo National Park! 

Some people on the tour asked if we could go night swimming since the boat was docked. The guide replied,  “Sure, but just so you know the water might glow”.  

THE WATER MIGHT GLOW?!?!? 

Our guide was  super  nonchalant about it but apparently, there’s a ton of bioluminescent algae in Komodo National Park that is very safe but makes the water and sand glow in the dark. I had experienced the bioluminescent algae in the  Gili Islands  a few years ago and didn’t even know it occurred outside the islands. If you’re lucky, you might be able to see it in Komodo!  

7. Take Photos With Your Private Photographer!

One of the super-cool things about taking the nicer and more luxurious Komodo Boat Tour was that it included a private photographer who would take pictures of us on the tour. Most of my photos in this guide are from the second Komodo Cruise I took because we had a photographer following us around!

💡 Tip: If you’re taking a nicer Komodo Boat Tour make sure it includes a photography service! Most of them do.

8. Hike To The View Point At Kelor Island

This was the last stop for both the Backpackers’ Boat and the Luxury Cruise, (but after partying for 4-days straight no one on the Backpackers’ Boat had the energy to hike to the viewpoint!). Kelor Island is just 15 minutes away from Labuan Bajo, and on our last day, we stopped there to snorkel the coral reef and hike to the viewpoint. While it’s only a 10-minute hike up to the top of Kelor Island, once you get there the view is literally a screensaver. It was the PERFECT way to end our trip!

9. Eat Really Good Food!

The meals on the luxury Komodo Cruise I took from Labuan Bajo were all next-level. We had fresh fish, fruits, and vegetables, all presented and plated in a very high-end way. It honestly blew me away how nice the meals were on the Luxury Komodo Cruise . After the first Komodo boat tour I took where the food was comically bad I didn’t know what to expect! I was beyond impressed with the quality of food on the Luxury Komodo Cruise!

Labuan Bajo Guide 

Labuan Bajo is the gateway to Komodo National Park where you will be starting or finishing your trip before flying back to Bali. Full disclosure, I was supposed to stay in Labuan Bajo for two days after my first Komodo Boat Tour ended, but I wound up staying  a whole month  because I fell in love with the town and the island of Flores! Labuan Bajo is a sleepy port city, but it’s a great break from the hustle of larger cities in Bali – plus there’s a ton to do from sailing Komodo to exploring the island of Flores overland. 

🏨 Where to Stay In Labuan Bajo 

Labuan Bajo has become famous in recent years for having these  gorgeous  all-white Santorini-Inspired hotels. The best hotel in Labuan Bajo is Loccal Collection, but if you’re on a budget Seaesta Hotel & Hostel is also amazing! 

Where To Eat In Labuan Bajo 

After a lot of trial and error, my favorite cafe in Labuan Bajo (where I’m sitting and writing this post right now) is Bacarita Cafe. It’s in the center of town, kind of hidden above the Starbucks. They do great coffee, western, and Indonesian food, there’s wifi, and the prices are really good! 

I also loved the Labuan Bajo fish market come nightfall. Lots of fish vendors line up their stalls and you order whole fish, which they then grill or fry fresh to order and serve with rice and sambal. My favorite was the grilled squid! 

Other Activities In Labuan Bajo & Flores 

Visit Rangko Cave:  Rangko Cave is a half hour outside of the town of Labuan Bajo and a very memorable experience. It’s a salt-water cave so you can float without effort, which made me love it even more than the  Cenote caves  I swam in Mexico.  Rangko Cave has  crystal-clear  blue water you can swim in, and the only way to get there is by taking a tiny boat from mainland Flores so you do need a tour to visit.

💡Tip:  In the afternoon, the sun aligns with Rangko Cave to light it up naturally from within. Amazing, right? Well , that’s what everyone else thinks too! We got there at 10 AM and even though it was kinda dark we had the cave  all to ourselves  until 11 AM when the other tourists started flooding in and the small cave quickly felt crowded. 

Trek To Wae Rebo Traditional Village:   Wae Rebo is most usually visited on 2-day overnight trips since it’s a difficult location to reach. You need to drive 4 hours outside of Labuan Bajo (over super bumpy roads), and then hike 1.5-3 hours uphill to reach the traditional village. Visit Cunca Wulang Waterfall:  Full disclosure –  Cunca Wulang  is the most unhinged waterfall I’ve visited in Indonesia. You need to hike for around 20 minutes to a rope bridge (which is kinda falling apart), but the reward is a  gorgeous  waterfall with a natural pool you can swim in! I think Cunca Wulang’s infrastructure suffered during the pandemic, and it wasn’t really kept up with – but if you’re into an  adventure , the reward at the end of the path is a truly gorgeous waterfall with a natural pool you can swim in!

Begin your trip with the first flight of the day to Komodo Airport in Labuan Bajo. It is on the island of Flores in East Nusa Tenggara province. Labuan Bajo is now a busy and bustling centre of tourism since it is the entry point for trips to see the world-famous Komodo Dragons , or Varanus Komodoensis . Upon arrival, you will our local guide and then directly transfer to Labuan Bajo Harbor to embark on a local wooden Boat . A short Boat journey gets you to Kelor Island for snorkeling around the island (snorkeling gear is provided). Lunch will be onboard.

Then we continue to Rinca Island , it is one of the best locations to see the dragons in their natural habitat. It is approximately 2-hour soft trekking on the island to search the dragons with a local ranger. Afterwards, we continue sailing towards Kalong Island where you can observe bats fulling the sky when they come home to roost at sunset. Then transfer back to the main island towards Labuan Bajo . Komodo Islands Tour: 3 Days in Indonesian Paradise

Doing a Komodo Islands Tour was definitely our top experience when visiting Indonesia. Even though Bali has a lot to offer, nothing on the island can compare to the beauty of Komodo National Park. From pink beaches, snorkeling with manta rays, and seeing millions of bats flying into the sunset – you are really in for a treat if you decide to book this cruise. We decided to book a 3D2N Komodo tour package with Travass Life, but you will notice a lot of the operators offer the same itineraries and tours. In this article, I will show you what we did on this tour, so you know what to search for when you’re booking your own.

Komodo Islands – The Ultimate Itinerary

Kelor island.

The first stop on the Komodo Islands tour was Kelor Island. Here you will have plenty of time to do a short hike to a viewpoint and do some swimming and snorkeling. The views were stunning here, but be prepared to wear good shoes as it does get a bit steep and slippery on the path.

Meet Komodo Dragons on Rinca Island

After lunch, we sailed off to Rinca Island – one of the three biggest islands and the most popular on the Komodo Islands tour. On this island, Komodo Dragons reside. They are the largest, heaviest lizards in the world – and one of the few with a venomous bite. We made our way to the ranger’s camp, where our group got assigned two rangers to escort us while we walk on the island. Even though there are over 2000 Komodo lizards living on this island, they mostly hide in the hot daylight. Still, it is required to be escorted due to danger and previous tourist deaths.

After learning a few facts about these giant lizards we set off. We explored where they live and eat and also walked to a beautiful island viewpoint.

Kalong Island

As the evening approached we anchored near Kalong Island. We sat on the deck, opened a bottle of wine, and waited for one of the most beautiful natural phenomenons to occur. During sunset, millions of bats fly out of the cave on Kelong Island and go on a food hunt. No one, not even the guides or the locals, knows where they fly to. However, they always return back to Kelong in the morning.

This spectacle lasted about half an hour and was definitely a great way to end the first day in Komodo National Park.

Padar Island

Being one of the most famous islands in Komodo National Park, you are likely to be one of many tourists here. The hike to the top is slightly tough, but the views are out of this world! This place was quite unique in almost every aspect. Hills and water on both sides and countless Instagram-friendly locations for your photos.

Taka Makassar

Surrounded by clear turquoise water and amazing views, this sandbank was our second stop on the second day on the Komodo Islands tour. We spent about an hour here and had a great time walking on the island.

You won’t believe your eyes when you arrive on this beach. The sand REALLY is pink. And the water is so blue! To date one of the most beautiful places I ever swam in.

The sad reality of the pink beach is that it does attract a lot of tourists. And with a lot of tourists comes a lot of trash. During our visit, there wasn’t much trash on the beach. However, there were so many plastic cups and bags in the sea. I saw almost no fish while snorkeling.

Travass Life (during our sailing) had a very poor relationship with plastic. So much single-use plastic on board that you really see how much each and every boat contributes to this plastic pollution problem on any Komodo Tour. I have seen that they are trying to make matters better now though, so hopefully, the beach will go back to its original beauty in no time!

Manta Point

After sailing a little while more, we made another stop in the middle of the sea this time. Swimming with manta rays was a definite highlight of this trip. The creatures are so curious and so gracious! We snorkeled with them for about half an hour and had such an amazing time. I can definitely recommend doing this on your Komodo Islands tour.

Kenawa Island

One of the last islands we visited on this Komodo Islands tour was Kenawa Island. By this time we were all slightly tired of snorkeling, but here it was totally worth it! There was a lot of life here and the water was very clear. You’ll without a doubt feel a little tired at the end of your Komodo tour, but you’ll every minute of it too!

Sailing Komodo National Park

The Komodo Islands Tour can be booked through several different operators. Make sure you book yours with a place that is conscious about the sea life and plastic in how they do their Komodo tour. While day tours are a fantastic idea if you are more into diving rather than sightseeing and snorkeling, the 3D2N tour is a perfect amount of time to see the highlights. The Komodo National Park is absolutely stunning and you should add it to your Bali travel.

How to get to Flores Island

First, you will need to book a domestic flight from Bali to Flores – Labuan Bajo. Labuan Bajo is the starting point for your trip to Komodo Islands. Domestic flights can be somewhat unpredictable and often get canceled and delayed. Four people in our tour group traveled 24 hours instead of 2 hours, due to terrible experiences with Lion Air and flying from Jakarta.

We booked our flights on Traveloka and took NAM AIR , which took 45 min from Denpasar to Labuan Bajo. The tickets cost us around $150 USD each for return flights. We decided to book the flights a day prior to our tour and a day after. I strongly recommend you do the same, we had to wait around on people who arrived on the same day and hence our tour starting 3 hours later than it should.

Where to stay in Labuan Bajo

When booking hotels in Labuan Bajo, be prepared for terrible smells, poor breakfasts, and early wake-up calls from their three mosques. We stayed in two different places and both had the above shortcomings. The mosques were actually very intense and one had called to prayer (and probably other chanting too) going on all day. We found out that both of those hotels are actually in the middle of this mosque triangle.

It doesn’t matter so much where you stay in Labuan Bajo, I’d suggest you focus more on the quality of the hotel instead of the location. There is not so much to explore in this town and you will be grateful you didn’t have any early mosque wake-up calls before or after your tours.

What to do in Labuan Bajo

Labuan Bajo is your starting point for the tour. No matter if you select multiple day-tours or overnight, live-aboard tours, you will spend at least a day or two in this town.

On our arrival at Padar Island Jetty, we will take you to do Trekking to the top of Padar island to see the amazing view of this island, and we will spend about 2 hours to look around while take pictures After that we will direct to Pink beach that will take about 1,5 hours by boat. How to Do Komodo Boat Tour 3 Days?

There are 2 options to do this tour, do it from Bali or Labuan Bajo. If you are going to do it from Bali, our team then will pick you up at Komodo airport based on your confirmed flight. If you are going to do it from Labuan Bajo, this means that you are staying in Labuan Bajo one day before doing your tour. This is how our team will see you at your hotel in Labuan Bajo.

On the other hand, Komodo Boat Tour 3 Days sometimes no need to pick you up anywhere but in this case, you and your guide from your Land Tour/Car Trip will drive directly to the port upon arrival in Labuan Bajo (The last day of your Land Tour in Labuan Bajo will be the beginning of your Komodo Boat Tour 3 Days).

You will be drop off to the airport if you are going to fly soon after the tour after finishing the tour. But if you want to stay one more night in Labuan bajo, your booked hotel will be your drop-off location and this is how your tour ends.

Komodo Boat Tour 3 Days can be done both private or group tour (share with other travelers. For most of our tours are private base as it is more comfortable and flexible as you wish too.

Boat Tours are ranging from the standard boat tour up to the luxury one. The boat provided is based on your tour budget. This boat is completed with an air conditioner as for all the cabin boat tours in Komodo. Meanwhile, the facilities on every boat is depending on the boat type.

The standard boat tour is the most boat tour we use on all our Komodo Island Boat Tour because it is affordable for the tour. If you are sailing on a standard boat tour, please bear in mind that the facilities provided are not like in a luxury one but at least it is safe and comfortable for the tour. WHAT TO BRING: Dress is casual. Clothing should be light, preferably cotton with at least one long sleeved shirt and pants. Bathing suit, thongs or sandals and sneakers or walking boots, lots of film, camera, replacement batteries, and spares. Women please note Indonesia is a mostly Muslim country and custom dictates modesty. Please be well covered on shore excursions. Bring one light sweater or jacket as it can get cool in the highlands. Also bring sun-screen, insect repellent, sunglasses, sunhat, swimmers. Please advise beforehand if you have any special dietary requirements. Beer is available at local rates. KOMODO: Ruta de 3 días en barco

Islas paradisiacas, playas de color rosa, dragones gigantes y naturaleza al extremo. No, no es un sueño. Ni una película. Hablo de Komodo, y te aseguro que no estoy exagerando.

El Parque Nacional de Komodo está ubicado en el centro de un archipiélago de Indonesia, compuesto principalmente por 3 islas volcánicas: Komodo, Rinca y Padar. Tiene un total de 2.321 km de superficie total (tanto marina como terrestre), y fue creado con el objetivo de proteger a su fauna y flora, y en especial, a los dragones de Komodo que allí habitaban.

A día de hoy, viven en esta área protegida, un total de 5.000 dragones. El 11 de noviembre de 2011 el parque fue declarado como una de las siete maravillas naturales del mundo.

El Parque Nacional de Komodo es uno de los lugares más bellos e impresionantes que he visto en mi vida y visitarlo ha sido, probablemente, la experiencia más bonita que me he llevado de vuelta a casa. Así que no te quedes con las ganas de conocer este lugar tan especial. ¿Quieres saber cómo visitarlo? Adelante, toma nota.

¿CÓMO LLEGAR A KOMODO? 

La forma más fácil y habitual de llegada a Komodo es con un vuelo directo desde Bali. Desde la isla balinesa saldrás de forma directa a la localidad de Labuan Bajo, una pequeña ciudad portuaria en la isla de Flores. No esperes un gran que de este lugar porque será única y exclusivamente para pasar la noche antes de iniciar tu aventura por el parque nacional. También hay vuelos directos desde Yakarta y Surabaya.

Si en tu viaje también pasas por Bali te será muy útil este post de UBUD , una de las mejores zonas que ver y en las que poder alojarte en la isla.

¿DÓNDE ME ALOJO EN KOMODO?

Desde que inicies tu tour por el Parque Nacional de Komodo, tu alojamiento será el barco en el que zarpes, pero antes seguramente pasarás una primera noche en Labuan Bajo. Mis dos noches aquí las pasé en Dragon Dive Komodo (tanto a la llegada como a la vuelta del tour en barco). Un hostel especial, donde hay tranquilidad, buena vibra y trabajadores muy cercanos. Fue en este sitio donde conocimos a un grupo de españoles maravillosos que acabó uniéndose a nuestro tour por Komodo. 

¿QUÉ TOUR ELIJO?

¿cuántos días: 1, 2 o 3.

Para conocer Komodo tendrás que zarpar en un barco si o si. No hay forma de recorrerlo de otra manera. Para elegir el tour, primero tendrás que decidir en cuánto dias quieres recorrer el parque. La mayoría de las empresas te ofrecen tours de 1 día, 2 días o 3 días. Después de elegir los días, tendrás que decidir el tipo de barco.

Barco compartido VS Barco privado

Los barcos compartidos solo salen ciertos días a la semana. Dato importante antes de coger el vuelo y planificar los días. En este tipo de barco, irás a bordo con unas 20 personas aprox, y tendrás que dormir en unos colchones en cubierta. ¡Una buena opción si viajas solo y quieres conocer gente y pasarlo bien!

Si por el contrario, vas con amigos y quieres un poco de intimidad y comodidad, la mejor opción es un barco privado. Es una opción cara pero que haciéndola en grupo te saldrá casi al mismo precio que en un barco compartido, pero teniendo la completa libertad a la hora de la ruta, horarios…

Nosotras optamos, después de darle varias vueltas, por un tour de 3 días y 2 noches en un barco privado. Nos salía bastante caro, al ser solamente dos, pero según habíamos planificado los días, tampoco teníamos muchas más opciones. Cuando planificamos la ruta no coincidía ningún día de salida de barcos compartidos así que si o si, teníamos que optar por el privado. Como dije anteriormente un grupito de españoles se unió a la aventura con nosotras y eso nos abarató muchísimo la excursión. 

¿Qué precio tienen los tours?

El precio del tour varía según el barco (compartido o privado) y según los días que elijas.

Nuestro barco privado de 3 días costaba 17,5 millones de rupias (unos 1050€ en total), siendo 7 personas nos tocaba a 2,5 millones cada uno (unos 150€ aproximadamente). Estos precios se basan en el año 2019.

Los tours en barco compartido rondan los 2,5 / 3,5 millones de rupias por persona, pero todo dependerá de la empresa que elijas, la habitación y por supuesto, la cantidad de días.

¿Cojo el tour desde españa o directamente allí?

Nosotras decidimos llevar el trabajo hecho desde casa por varios motivos: porque era agosto y plena temporada alta y porque teníamos el tiempo muy bien calculado y no queríamos que surgiera imprevisto alguno y arriesgarnos a perdernos este lugar.

Si no quieres complicarte puedes coger un tour por Komodo con Civitatis , aunque cuenta que esta opción será más cara. En el caso de que optes por una empresa local, asegúrate que tenga buenas opiniones y si tienes referencias de algún conocido mejor que mejor. Si vas en temporada baja, lo mejor es que lo contrates directamente allí.

¿QUÉ INCLUYE EL TOUR?

• Recogida en Labuan Bajo y traslado de regreso al hotel o el aeropuerto.
• Todas las comidas (Desayuno, Almuerzo y Cena). Además de agua, té y café. Nosotros igualmente decidimos hacer una pequeña compra de picoteo y bebidas antes de empezar el tour.
• Barco de ida y vuelta entre Isla de Flores y las islas de Komodo.
• Equipo de snorkel.

¿QUÉ NO INCLUYE EL TOUR?

En la mayoría de los casos, el precio no incluye las entradas al Parque Nacional (entrada a rinca, padar..). Prepara unas 500.000 rupias a parte para esos gastos. Igualmente antes de reservar el tour, pregunta sobre las tasas que tendrás que pagar, y lleva efectivo porque te las cobrarán una vez estés a bordo.

¿QUÉ LUGARES VISITAS EN 3 DÍAS?

• Kelor Island: Fue la primera parada de nuestro tour. Una pequeña isla que pudimos disfrutar completamente solos. Te dan una hora para hacer snorkel o tomar el sol.

• Flying Fox: Esta parada fue especial y realmente espectacular. No solo disfrutamos de una pasada de atardecer sino que la naturaleza nos brindó el mejor de los regalos. Sobre las 19:00, aproximadamente un millón de murciélagos gigantes salieron volando de una isla e invadieron todo el cielo pasando por nuestras cabezas. 

• Rinca: Uno de los momentos más importantes del tour llegó en esta parada. Tocaba conocer a los lagartos más grandes del mundo: los dragones de Komodo. Una vez llegas a este lugar se te asigna un ranger y deberás elegir entre 3 tipos de ruta. Nosotros optamos por la ruta larga que duraba una hora aprox. Durante el camino pudimos observar algún dragón de komodo. ¡No todo el mundo tiene esa suerte!

• Pink Beach: Si hay algo que me enamoró de Komodo, estoy segura que las playas rosas están en primer lugar. ¡Es una auténtica pasada de sitio!. En total, hay siete playas rosadas en todo el planeta y la Pink Beach es una de ellas. El color de la arena se debe al coral rojo del fondo marino. 

• Palau Padar: En esta isla se encuentra uno de los miradores más bonitos que he visto. Desde lo alto de la montaña tendremos una panorámica de las 3 famosas playas de Komodo: la de arena rosa, la de arena blanca y la de arena negra. Y todo esto es una misma isla ¡Algo increíble!

• Manta Point: Era otro de los lugares más esperados por todos. Teníamos muchas ganas de conocer a las enormes mantas que viven en estos mares. Pero, nos quedamos con las ganas. Estuvimos nadando más de una hora haciendo snorkel, pero llegué a la conclusión de que ese día las mantas no tenían ganas de conocernos. Eso sí, pudimos ver tortugas y corales increíbles. La vida marina en Komodo es una de las más bonitas del mundo. 

• Taka Makasar: Divise esta mini isla a lo lejos y no dudé en pedirle a uno de los guías que nos llevase en la barquita hasta allí. Me llamaba especial atención el agua turquesa que la bordeaba y sus arenas rosas.

• Kanawa Island: Fue la última parada de nuestra ruta por el Parque Nacional de Komodo, y nos la tomamos muy relajadamente. Nos pedimos unas birras en el bar de la playa y nos sentamos a disfrutar de la vida, sin más. Brindamos por el viajazo que nos habíamos pegado y nos echamos unas buenas risas. ¡Qué viaje nos dieron los chicos!

¡Muy importante!: Cuando subimos a un barco muchas veces no prestamos atención a la seguridad necesaria y nos fiamos de la empresa sin más. Por experiencia propia, ¡No lo hagáis!. Aseguraros antes, que el barco cumple con la seguridad para cualquier tipo de imprevisto, y sobre todo que tenga chalecos salvavidas, y un guía que hable vuestro idioma, o por lo menos inglés.

Komodo es salvaje y sus aguas son famosas también por sus corrientes y su peligrosidad durante determinadas fechas del año. Durante nuestra ruta por Komodo, el barco se metió de un momento para otro, en una zona de olas y corrientes, y estuvimos a punto de naufragar. Los guías casi no hablaban inglés y no podían expresarse y explicarnos realmente lo que pasaba. Y lo peor, no habían chalecos y estábamos en mitad de la nada.

Otro barco pudo venir a rescatarnos y todo quedó en un buen susto. A pesar de ese problema que tuvimos, recomiendo esta experiencia al 100%. Solo te aconsejo lo que anteriormente te comenté: ten referencias de la empresa que vas a contratar y asegúrate que cumplen con la seguridad necesaria. Eso hará que vayas con tranquilidad y que disfrutes como nunca de un auténtico paraíso.

After many years experience in organizing boat tour in Tanjung Puting National Park, now we expand our boat tour to Komodo National Park. We have our own traditional boats ready to explore the Island around Komodo National Park, to meet the Komodo Dragon. Komodo National park is the home of the unique and rare Komodo Dragon (Varanus komodoensis). Because of the unique and rare nature of this animal, KNP was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986. The park includes three major islands, Komodo, Rinca and Padar, and numerous smaller islands together totaling 603 square km of land. At least 2,500 komodos live in this area.

Large dragons are usually three meters long and weigh up to 90 kg. Their habitat has beautiful panoramic views of savannas, rain forests, white beaches, beautiful corals, and clean blue seas. In this area, you can also find horses, wild buffalo, deer, wild boar, snakes, monkeys, and various types of birds. On Rinca Island, you can see komodos lying down outside the homes of national park rangers, or “parking” near the officials’ homes.

If you don’t see a dragon, Rinca and Komodo have beautiful sceneries with white beaches, mangroves, savannas and blue waters. During the dry season, these savannas and hills have dried grasses.

The tour we design in Komodo National Park is a complete destination for your adventure in Flores, Indonesia. You can meet the Komodo dragon, hike to the top if beautiful hill, white sand beaches, crystal view water, etc. Our scheduled tour is departing every weekend for Labuan Bajo, solo traveler or couple travelers are welcome to join on our trip. However, if you would like to enjoy the time only with your family or friends, a private tour is the best option. With the private boat you can depart anytime from Labuan Bajo.

Additional information

Day 1: labuan bajo – kelor island – rinca island- kalong island (l/d).

• Pick up from the airport or your hotel in Labuan Bajo and transfer by car to the port to board the boat. Upon arrival on the boat we will start the voyage through the blue sea of Flores.
• Our first destination is Kelor Island, after around 45 minutes on the boat we will arrive on a small this small island. The activity is snorkeling, enjoy the beach or you can hike the hill to see the view around the island.
• Lunch serve on the boat.
• After Kelor Island we boat up to Rinca Island to meet the last dragon on earth, Komodo. Lead by the local ranger we will do the trekking through the forest and savanna to find the famous Komodo.
• Enjoy the sunset while watching millions of fruit bat covering the sky, the fly from small mangrove island to the main island hunting for fruit at night.
• The boat will slowly move to find the save place to overnight, dinner and sleep on the boat.

Day 2: Padar Island – Pink Beach – Manta Point

• While enjoying you breakfast with the view, the boat is heading to Padar Island. Opun arrial we will hike to the top of the island and enjoy the best view in Komodo Islands. Use your trekking shoes because the trek is slippery and steep hill.
• After trekking in Padar Island, the boat is cruising to Pink Beach. The famous beach with its mixing red and white sand. Enjoy the colorful coral and many kind of fish by snorkeling, you also can just lay down on the beach to enjoy the sun and the scenery.
• The next destination is heading to Manta Spot to search the biggest ray in the world and we can swim with the giant and calm Manta Ray if we can meet them. The meet is not guaranteed because they are wild animal.
• Dinner and sleep on the boat.

Day 3: Gili Lawa – Manta Poin – Kanawa Island – Labuan Bajo

• Breakfast on the boat and heading to Taka Makassar, enjoy a tiny island made of  sands with turquoise water around it.
• Then we will visit is Kanawa Island. Snorkeling or swimming in the island with white sand beach and beautiful underwater world.
• After Kanawa Island we will back to Labuan Bajo, pack you bag and farewell to the crew on board.
• If we still have time we could stop is Bidadari Island to enjoy the beach and some snorkeling.
• Upon arrival at the jetty the car is waiting, transfer to your hotel or airport in Labuan Bajo
• See you next trip.

Day 01: labuan bajo - kelor island - menjerite - rinca island - kalong island.

• Pick Up service at  hotel or Airport  in Labuan Bajo 
• Transfer to the harbour.
• First Stop at Kelor Island to do Snorkeling and trekking.
• Next Snorkeling in Menjerite
• Soft and short trekking at Rinca Island to see Komodo Dragon and other wild animals such as: Timor Deer, long tail macaque, water buffalo, etc
• Next to Kalong Island as the last stop to see See the Fruit Bats and Sunset from the boat

Day 02: Padar island - Komodo Island - Pink Beach - Manta Point - Taka Makassar

• Then Continue our trip to Komodo Island where we can do trekking and have chance to see Komodo Dragon and the other wild lifes.

El Parque Nacional de Komodo , se encuentra en la provincia de Nusa Tenggara Timur, siendo la isla más conocida Flores . La ciudad para llegar es Labuan Bajo , una pequeña ciudad portuaria que será el lugar de inicio para conocer estas increíbles islas en barco crucero.

Como ir de Bali a Komodo (Labuan Bajo)

La forma más fácil para llegar a Komodo es con un vuelo directo desde Bali, con destino al Aeropuerto de Komodo ubicación en la ciudad de Labuan Bajo (Código LBJ). También hay vuelos directos desde Yakarta y Surabaya.

Se recomienda llegar el dia anterior, pero al ser tour privado podemos adaptar los horarios del tour a los horarios de los vuelos.

Precios Entradas Parque Nacional Komodo

Para la excursión deben preparar 500,000 rupias aprox para el pago de los permisos y entradas en las islas y el Parque Nacional Komodo. (En caso de feriados o dia domingo deben llevar 700,000 rupias por persona)

Itinerario excursion 3 dias para ver el dragón Komodo

Dia 1: llegada aeropuerto labuan bajo – playas, snorkeling y atardecer.

El transporte los recogerá en el aeropuerto de Labuan Bajo en la salida del vuelo con un cartel con sus nombres, o en el hotel, en el caso de haber pasado la noche anterior en Labuan Bajo.

Luego de llegar todos los pasajeros, se les dará una breve explicación para el viaje y se embarcaran en el crucero que será su hogar para las siguientes dos noches.

La primera visita será la isla Kelor , donde subiremos a una pequeña colina (10 min), donde podrán observar el paisaje con los colores cristalinos de la playa.

Continuamos hacia la Isla Manjarite , donde podrán disfrutar de snorkeling con peces y corales de todos los colores.

La última parada del día es en la isla Kalong , donde disfrutaran la espectacular salida de miles de murciélagos con la puesta del sol.

Dia 2: Playas, Snorkeling y Dragones

Comenzamos a navegar muy temprano para llegar a la Isla Padar , y poder hacer las fotos desde la cima con la vista del amanecer. La subida es con escaleras. (llevar agua, ya que hace mucho calor luego de la salida del sol)

Después visitamos la playa Pink Beach , una playa de arena rosa, formada por restos de corales rotos rojizos, que según la posición del sol hace que se vea como arena rosa, y muy buen lugar para snorkeling.

Luego del Almuerzo se visitará una de las atracciones principales de este tour, que es la visita a la Isla de Komodo , donde se podrán observar los Dragones Komodo.

Siempre seguir las indicaciones de los guías y respetar las distancias.

Una de las visitas favoritas a la Isla Taka Makassar , una pequeña isla de arena que se forma en medio del mar y puede cambiar de forma cada día.

A pocos minutos de Taka Makassar, se encuentra la zona de mantas , navegaremos por la zona hasta encontrarlas y podrán hacer snorkeling entre mantas. (Siempre respetar las indicaciones del guía al bajar)

Dia 3: Playas & Snorkeling – Aeropuerto Labuan Bajo

El ultimo dia, comienza con snorkeling en las costas de la Isla Siaba , donde veran tortugas marinas.

La última visita es a la Isla Kanawa , donde tendrán tiempo libre en la isla y hacer snorkeling.

La excursión termina nuevamente en el puerto de Labuan Bajo donde los espera el transporte para llevarlos al hotel o aeropuerto

**El recorrido puede variar según el clima y condiciones del mar y según vea mejor el capitán del barco. (La seguridad es lo primero)

Si en los meses de Enero y Febrero es época de mal clima en la zona (olas altas) de Labuan Bajo, por lo que muy pocos barcos (solo los mas grandes) tienen salidas. De nuestra parte no hacemos tours en Enero/Febrero en Komodo.

Viajamos de luna de miel en Mayo y nos gustaría hacer el tour de 3 días y 2 noches. Los días serian entre el 12/05 y el 16/05 aún no sabemos días exactos depende de vuestra disponibilidad. You will have a pick-up from the hotel or airport between 09.30 to 10. 00 am. The boat will leave at 10.30 am from the dock of Labuan Bajo. What to Experience on Komodo Island Tour 4 Days 3 Nights?

Komodo National Park is a place where the Komodo Dragons are inhabited. Komodo dragons are wildlife and mostly are found on Rinca and Komodo Island. Deer, buffalo, wild roar, and types of birds are also found in Komodo National Park. Besides the Komodo Dragons and other wildlife, the National Park also offers beautiful landscapes, beaches, and amazing underwater life.

The following are recommended things to experience:

• Snorkeling at Manjarite Island. Enjoy the amazing coral gardens and colorful fish. You will also enjoy the beautiful white sand beach.
• Trekking on Rinca Island to find Komodo dragons and enjoy a spectacular view of the island. Rinca is one of the best places to spot Komodo dragons in Komodo National Park.
• Sunset on Kalong island while watching the bats flying over the island. Kalong is a mangrove island with inhabitants, it is one of the best places to spot sunset.
• Hiking on Komodo Island to find Komodo dragons and other wildlife. You can also visit Kampung Komodo or Komodo village and experience the local life on the island.
• Lounge on Pink Beach, snorkeling, and swimming. The pink sand beach is located north of Komodo Island. It is a perfect beach to enjoy your day with a Komodo boat tour.

Tour Itinerary:

The Komodo Island Tour 4 Days and 3 Nights will accommodate all-the-way service based on the itinerary. It is including hotel or airport transfers in Labuan Bajo. For your great experience, we only offer a safe and comfortable Komodo boat tour combined with professional crews.

Day 1: Labuan Bajo - Manjarite - Rinca island - Kalong Island

We will pick you up from the hotel or Airport in Labuan Bajo. And then drive to the dock for a boat tour. The first to visit is Manjarite Island and then Rinca Island. After that, you will continue to Kalong Island. the boat will overnight on Kalong. Lunch and dinner will serve on the boat.

Day 2: Komodo Island - Pink Beach - Gili Lawa

Leave early in the morning at about 07.30 am from Kalong Island . The first to visit is Komodo Island, and then Pink Beach. After that, the trip will continue to Gili Lawa. Today Komodo boat tour will overnight on Gili Lawa. Enjoy the night on Gili Lawa island.

Day 3: Manta Point - Taka Makasar - Padar Island

On this day, the first to visit is Manta Point and then Taka Makasar. After that, you will continue to sail to Padar Island. You will spend the evening on Padar island and the Komodo boat trip will overnight on Padar. Enjoy the beautiful night under a beautiful sky on Padar Island.

Day 4: Kelor Island - Kanawa Island - Labuan Bajo

It is the last day of your Komodo island boat tour for 4 days and 3 nights. The first to visit on this day is Kelor Island. And then you will continue to Kanawa island. After that, sail back to Labuan Bajo. Hotel transfers will provide and ready in the dock at Labuan Bajo. You will be in Labuan Bajo at about 01.00 pm. However, the arrival time is not exactly, depending on the sea condition

Note : This tour package is recommended to book in advance, at least one week before the departure date. We are not recommended to make a last-minute booking. Let us know if you have also a connecting flight on the last day of the tour, so our crew will manage the time of arrival in Labuan Bajo. The route or destination is subject to change, depending on the sea condition. The captain has a right to skip and change the route for any specific reason such as bad weather, strong currents, etc.

Tour Parque Nacional de Komodo: viaje de dos días y una noche

El Parque Nacional de Komodo es uno de esos lugares que siempre ves en fotos y parece paradisíaco pero no crees que alguna vez vayas a poder visitarlo. Pues bien, uno de mis sueños se hizo realidad! Es un lugar increíblemente bonito que superó todas nuestras expectativas aunque hay diferentes formas de organizar tour en el Parque Nacional de Komodo en barco, en nuestro caso hicimos dos días y una noche. Te contamos nuestra experiencia!!

Actualmente se trata de un archipiélago protegido por la Unesco , con una naturaleza exuberante y unas islas desiertas que ni en nuestros mejores sueños y unas aguas turquesas que jamás podríamos imaginar y cómo no, una fauna única que incluye al famoso dragón de komodo.

¿qué tours existen, ¿qué incluye, presupuesto.

La localidad de Labuhan Bajo es la puerta de entrada al Parque Nacional de Komodo. Una pequeña ciudad pesquera que sinceramente, la ciudad es fea como ella sola. Es un lugar muy sucio donde puedes cruzarte con ratas por las calles (avisamos que el susto que te das no es pequeño, son gigantes) y los alojamientos son caros, aunque dicen que ha mejorado en los últimos años.

Puedes llegar mediante avión, Labuan Bajo Airport (LBJ) es la forma más común. Existen vuelos directos desde varios puntos de Indonesia por lo que no supondrá un problema. Fue nuestra opción ya que teníamos tiempo limitado en nuestra ruta de 15 días.

También tienes la opción de ir en barco desde otros lugares pero dura varios días y leímos varias personas que había naufragado por lo que la descartamos rápido y decidimos ir a Labuhan en avión.

El precio del trayecto en taxi del aeropuerto a la ciudad está estipulado en 50.000k (3,10€ aprox.) aunque realmente el aeropuerto está casi metido en la ciudad por lo que puedes llegar andando en unos 15-20 minutos .

Cuando salgas del aeropuerto veras una avalancha de personas sobre ti para ofrecerte un taxi. Si quieres ir andando sigue recto y pasa el parking del aeropuerto.

Si tienes dudas ya sabes que siempre recomendamos la App maps.me . Es una app gratuita y que es una maravilla para cuando viajas sin Internet.

¿Cómo reservar el tour?

Normalmente para reservar el tour, se hace mediante Whatsaap o mail. Incluso en algunas ocasiones les contactas por correo electrónico y te dan su número para hablar por Whatsaap. En nuestro caso hablamos con los siguientes:

• FickoKomodo ( +62 812-3732-1023 ): fue con quien realizamos el tour, lo contactamos por Whatsapp pero tuvimos que regatear un poco. Nos decidimos por él por las buenas opiniones que pudimos encontrar. Aunque creemos que al final nos hizo un poco el lío, la verdad que la experiencia fue genial.
• KomodoDramland ( [email protected] ): no tenía tour compartido tenía que ser privado y no es lo que buscábamos.
• Lombok Travel Agency ( +62 818-365-070 ): no nos convenció porque solo nos ofrecía en barco privado por lo que el precio se subía bastante, hasta 4.700.000IDR (290€), nos parecía un precio altísimo para solamente 2 días.
• Go To Komodo ( +62 813-3136-4926 ): le contactamos pero jamás nos respondió.
• Top Komodo Tours ( +62 813-3912-2174 ): tiene muchísimas opciones de tours aunque el precio que nos ofrecía era un poco mayor que el resto y no nos terminaba de convencer el tour que le quedaba disponible.

Aunque sólo contactamos con estos, hay muchísimos más, de hecho si es temporada baja recomendamos contratarlo allí en persona . Todas las empresas están en la misma calle Jl. Soekarno Hatta.

En caso de ir en temporada alta , te recomendamos contratarlo antes ya que puede ser más caro en el destino. Personalmente, no nos pidieron ningún tipo de anticipo aunque sí hemos leído de gente que les pidieron anticipos. Ten mucho cuidado con esto.

El tour por el Parque Nacional de Komodo en barco más comunes suele ser de 2 días y 1 noche y el de 1 día aunque también puedes encontrar tours de 3 días y 2 noches o incluso más.

Lo primero que tienes que saber es si quieres el barco compartido o privado . En caso que no lo tengas claro, existe la opción de realizar el tour compartido pero en camarotes privados por lo que tus pertenencias estarán en tu propia habitación y dormirás tú solo.

Si quieres ahorrar dinero puedes hacerlo compartido y dormir con los compañeros, en nuestro caso fue una experiencia genial y a nadie le robaron nada. Suele ser con gente de diferentes países por lo que la experiencia será mucho más enriquecedora.

Aunque si sois un grupo grande , estamos seguros que podéis encontrar alguna empresa que os hagan el tour en barco privado sólo para vuestro grupo.

Debes asegurarte bien de qué incluye ya que depende de la empresa puede incluir o no ciertas cosas como la tasa visita al parque o rangers, etc. En nuestro caso incluía lo siguiente:

• Barco compartido para 2 días y 1 noche
• Comidas /agua/te
• Equipo de Snorkel

Asegúrate bien qué está incluido durante tu tour ya que los precios cambian continuamente. Normalmente hay gastos que no están incluidos como puede ser la entrada al Parque Nacional o la tasa para hacer snorkel.

Hay que confirmar también qué vais a visitar ya que algunos pequeños puntos cambian como puede ser los «Flying Fox».

Esto es lo que nos costó nuestro viaje por Komodo en septiembre de 2019, hemos incluido los vuelos de ida y vuelta, los hoteles, comidas y demás.

• Tour 2D1N: 1.800.000 IDR -900.000 IDR/persona – 110€ (55€/persona)
• Vuelo Denpasar – Labuhan: 140,80€ (70,40€/persona)
• Hotel Bajo Nature Backpackers 1N: 237.500 IDR – 15€
• Vuelo Labuhan- Yakarta: 163,50€ (81,75/persona)
• Hotel Blue Parrot 1N: 43€
• Comidas: 355.648 IDR – 22€
• Taxi: 25.000 IDR – 1,55€
• Tasas ranger, snorkel y entradas parque: 530.000 IDR/persona- 1.060.000IDR – 32,80€/ persona – 65,6€

TOTAL: 561,45€ en total para 2 personas .

Nuestra experiencia

Nosotros contratamos el tour en el Parque Nacional de Komodo en barco compartido por 2 días y 1 noche . Por tema de tiempo no podíamos estar más tiempo pero ojalá hubiésemos podido porque era un paraíso.

La ciudad (Labuhan Bajo) en nuestra opinión es muy muy fea aunque se notaba que el turismo estaba ganando fuerza.

Ya en el barco, cada vez empezaba a aparecer más y más gente, en total eramos 16 personas más la tripulación. El guía era increíble, super amable y nos explicaba todo genial, una de las cosas que más nos gustó es que se relacionaba con nosotros.

Nada más zarpar el barco empezamos a ver pequeñas islas totalmente desiertas . Empezamos a relacionarnos con nuestros compañeros, había gente de todo el mundo y esto hizo la experiencia más enriquecedora.

Aunque existen tours en los que vas sólo en el barco, esta vez nos apetecía compartido, ya que habíamos hecho el de Borneo solos y queríamos ver que tal la experiencia. 

La primera parada que hicimos fue la isla de Rinca para ver parte del Parque Nacional de Komodo . Hacemos un pequeño trekking con los rangers de la isla donde encontramos algunos dragones de komodo ¡gigantes!

De camino a Pink Beach sirven la comida. La verdad que las todas las comidas estaban deliciosas. Más tarde, hacemos una parada para hacer snorkel donde pudimos ver corales y cantidad de pececillos de diferentes colores, era como estar en un documental.

Más tarde, visitamos la isla de Komodo , donde de nuevo hicimos un pequeño trekking por la isla, siempre con los rangers ya que los dragones pueden ser peligrosos. Lo cierto es que no lo aparentaban simplemente estaban tirados en el suelo sin hacer nada, incluso llegaban a parecer de mentira, pero nos contaron que han tenido varios accidentes.

De vuelta en el barco, sirvieron la cena y estuvimos con varios compañeros contando un poco de nuestros respectivos países, vivencias, etc, la verdad es que estuvo genial compartir la experiencia con más gente.

De repente una lancha se acercó y estamos seguros que jamás podrías adivinar de qué se trataba. ¡Era una lancha-bar que vendía Bintang!

Para dormir simplemente se colocaban unas pequeñas colchonetas sobre el suelo , nosotros decidimos poner encima el saco-sábana (bendita la hora que decidimos llevarlo). La verdad que pudimos descansar muy bien.

Una de nuestras dudas es si pasaríamos tanto calor por la noche que no pudiésemos dormir y para nada, realmente estás agotado y no hace nada de calor por lo que puedes descansar perfectamente.

A la mañana siguiente, como íbamos a hacer trekking por Padar y era más duro que el resto, nos recomiendan no desayunar ya que si lo juntas con el calor podíamos encontrarnos mal, finalmente decidimos entre todo el grupo no desayunar.

En Padar , hacemos un trekking hasta arriba de la isla, en esta pequeña isla no hay dragones pero las vistas desde arriba de las 3 bahías es espectacular.

Aunque era temprano, el calor era infernal y si sumamos que no habíamos desayunado, fue un poco cansado, pero se puede subir sin problema. 

Después de un par de horas desayunamos e iniciamos camino hacia el próximo punto, un punto donde suelen haber muchas manta rayas. Sin duda, estábamos muy emocionados, especialmente Alba que deseaba con todas sus fuerzas ver tortugas marinas en libertad . ¡LO CONSEGUIMOS!

Fue una de las experiencias más bonitas de nuestra vida, no lo olvidaremos jamás, todas esas mantarrayas y tortugas …mágico.

TIP : por favor, no uses protector solar en este punto, tienen componentes químicos que son muy perjudiciales para las mantarrayas. En su lugar, puedes usar una camiseta para no quemarte la espalda.

El guía siempre estaba con nosotros en todo momento tanto en los trekking y snorkel  ya que no podíamos acercarnos a ninguno de los animales (esto era obvio pero ya sabemos, no todo el mundo piensa igual). 

Lo único malo de toda esta experiencia fue que Pablo tuvo un barotrauma . Básicamente, se emocionó tanto con la vista de una tortuga que se hizo daño en el tímpano y lo tuvieron que recoger en lancha.

Después de comer empezamos nuestro camino de vuelta, a la llegada de Labuhan el calor era peor aún y teníamos que llegar al hotel, como Pablo no se encontraba bien decidimos cambiar el hotel a uno más privado donde pudiese descansar ya que cada vez se encontraba peor . Así hicimos, lo malo es que estaba más lejos y nos costó bastante encontrar. 

Por estas cosas, SIEMPRE RECOMENDAMOS VIAJAR CON SEGURO.
