Tourism & hospitality jobs
Exciting prospects ahead
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, tourism was New Zealand’s biggest industry and employer. In 2019, we had nearly 4 million overseas visitors, providing almost 20% of our export earnings, and 1 in every 12 jobs.
Now, as the industry restarts, New Zealand is a great place to grow your career.
You can enjoy a lifestyle you simply won’t find anywhere else while using and growing your skills in an industry that works to international standards.
Meeting global standards
Along with our incredible scenery, our tourism and hospitality success is built on the qualities and skills of the people who work in the industry.
Tourism professionals in New Zealand have to meet the needs of a diverse and often very travel-wise global market.
Our overseas visitors come from China, Japan, South Korea, India, Germany, Australia, USA, UK and Canada and many other countries. People in each of these groups have different needs and expectations.
Interested in coming to New Zealand?
Take the first step to a new life by registering your interest with Immigration New Zealand. We’ll send you personalised emails about job opportunities in your profession, life in New Zealand and choosing the right visa.
Where and when
As well as top destinations like Auckland, Queenstown and Rotorua and Wellington, there are tourism and hospitality jobs in almost every part of the country.
From historic Northland to the wild South Island West Coast. From the wine provinces of Gisborne, the Hawkes Bay, Marlborough and Nelson to adventure activities in Taupo or Kaikoura. Businesses everywhere are welcoming back tourists. They are also looking for the staff they need to deliver the experiences the visitors deserve.
New Zealand tourist seasons are almost year-round. Our summer season runs from November to March, and the winter snow season runs from June to October. Our temperate climate and spectacular scenery also mean spring and autumn have their own highlights, attracting more visitors every year.
