With 19 different brands, IHG One Rewards members have many hotel experiences to choose from. Two of the most well-known brands are the Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express. While these two brands have very similar-sounding names, there is indeed a difference between them.

Here are some of the major similarities and differences between the Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express, so you can make an informed decision about which hotel is best for you when booking your next trip.

The major differences

The major difference between a Holiday Inn and a Holiday Inn Express is simply that one is full service, while the other is more limited. Holiday Inn is geared towards families looking for a comfortable spot to relax together, while Holiday Inn Express is aimed more toward the short-stay business traveler.

Here's a summary of general differences you're likely to encounter:

Level of service. The Holiday Inn — as a generally full-service hotel — offers guests on-site restaurants and bars, room service and bell staff, and conference rooms and catering services. The Holiday Inn Express, on the other hand, is less likely to offer these services.

Availability. IHG offers about 3,000 Holiday Inn Express locations, nearly 3x the availability of Holiday Inn locations, which sits right around 1,100.

Amenities. The Holiday Inn Express brand doesn’t have leisure facilities as a brand standard. You’re typically more likely to find swimming pools, spas and fitness centers at Holiday Inns.

Breakfast. Guests can expect a complimentary buffet-style breakfast at the Holiday Inn Express, whereas Holiday Inn guests might order room service or dine in the on-site restaurant.

Terrible bed bugs roaches dirty shower spit on the mirror I must have been the last to rent a room because I went back to the front desk and they were closed ,next the house keeper threw me out cursed me out and said we weren't giving u. Back $

I stayed there this past weekend 9/28/19. Room 204 there was a used needle behind the dresser, the remote didn't even work for the tv. There was also door soon on the sheets. I also saw countless roaches. They refused to give me my money back even though I left and did not stay there. There is NO wifi even though they say there is. Only reason I gave it a 1 star is because it won't let u take away stars.. it's a disgusting roach infested drug infested rats whole. Do not stay there.. You will be disappointed

Bad experience!!! We were on our way to myrtle beach and decided to stop for a few hours to sleep. Many hotels were booked solid so this was a place we found a room available. The price was cheap and by the time we finally found somewhere it was 530 Am and check out was 11am anyway so se decided to stay. To say the least I woke up soak and wet from my waist down. I looked up and you can tell the ceiling was wet. There was many patches that were attempted to be fixed but obviously it's a bigger problem. Upon check out I complained about it and the response I got was "sorry about that but would you like a receipt" wow! Stay away from this place.

Me and my wife got a room for two nights and the day after we got the room the manager and one of the check in clerks told us that we had to leave because we only paid for one night. This is the second time we got a room here and both times we have had problems. The first time we stayed here one night and found needless, scales and spoons used for doing crack.. this time we had this problem along with some electricity problems in the room. I guess when you get a cheap room dat dis is what you get. Need better management to run the hotel and better house keepers to clean the rooms ALOT better

The check in Saturday afternoon was wonderful, I smelled bleach and freshness! Front desk clerk was so polite and helpful. My roo. Was really pretty an clean. 1 complaint that was fixed asap the heat went off an stayed off night clerk gave a polite customer service attitude and I love that! She gave us an extra blanket too!! The breakfast was great with a couple choices or 3 for meats and the sides went well. 10/10 I'd book this location again! Noose level 1-2 upstairs walkers lol

We were sent to a room that was still being cleaned. They did get us a new room. Also the pool was a little dirty looking. We decided not to swim. The elevator also made some noises. The bed was a bit hard.

Location was decent but really couldn't walk anywhere. Seemed to be pretty clean.

I liked the beds in the room the dispensers for body wash, shampoo ,conditioner, lotion, were all empty. The toilet paper is rough as cardboard that should not be at the price of 130.00 a night. There was pink mold in the corner of the tub. Around the sink plug was a nasty brown black ring. The vanity back was very dusty. Only one sugar pack with napkin sweet and low plus stirrer and napkin in the room fo 2. The beds were comfortable the carpet could have been better vacumed. Over all could have been better cleaned. Staff were friendly.

I booked a family suite. The booking said a king bed and two queen beds. No king bed we had to settle for a pull out couch & 2 queen beds. As the property said they didn't have room for that booking. I have contacted booking.com to let them know that I paid for a family suite and got a downgrade. Still waiting on the status. I will say the hotel is clean, the pool is not in fact heated. The pool is quite cold!!! It is however well maintained. Also I tried to message the hotel weeks in advance about my room and never got a response back! Which is a disappointment.

the only petty thing I could find would be the bathroom door was too tight for ease of opening and closing, also would have liked to have been informed that $50 added to bill for any charges that may have been made. Though t I was overcharged for my room when looking at ny credit card app that night, had to approach front desk about it to then find out why

room had a lot of horizontal spaces for storage, bedding was excellent, tv larger than normal with plenty of channels to choose from. breakfast was good

The lady was arguing that the a/c unit should make the awful noise! I said I wouldn't stay in that room. So they moved us across the hall where there were adjoining rooms, which I had requested weeks before!! So they weren't going to accommodate that request to begin with!

Incredibly disappointing and bad…

Incredibly disappointing and bad service. Booked a hotel through them a few weeks out, they confirmed and took a deposit and then eight days later it turned out they had not confirmed with the hotel, just sent an email which got not reply and the break was ruined. Total betrayal of trust. We had used them before but were devastated when we needed reliability

Very disappointing cycling

I have had a good experience of this company’s cycling holidays in the past so booked the baroque Sicily by bike tour with high expectations. The towns and hotels were lovely but the cycling was grim. The routes were mainly featureless apart from the extensive fly tipping. You can choose between heavy traffic and rural potholes. It was hot and there was nowhere even to stop for a rest and a drink. A host of interesting towns to visit. A terrible place for a cycling holiday. Don’t do it.

Inntravel's walking holiday in the Leutasch Valley, Austria

Just returned from Inntravel's 7 day walking holiday in the Leutasch Valley, Austria, staying at three lovely hotels. The walks given in the pack were versatile to enable a mix of shorter and longer walks with time for relaxing by the pools at the hotels and trips into local towns by bus. Inntravel staff were helpful and easily accessible by phone. A great stress free holiday.

Book with this company with confidence! They were helpful and efficient from beginning to end. Even helping to save us money by booking our own flights and pointing us in the right direction. They were instantly available by phone with any questions, and made the whole process seem simple. The hotel transfers were arranged with no problems. The information pack sent just before our holiday was a beautifully presented folder with everything we needed for our trip. Will definitely be using this company again.

Disappointed

Our information pack only came 3 days before travel, ( printing difficulties were the reason given to us on the phone) The information we found was difficult to understand and we felt , poorly written. The map included was a road map , no use for walking but useful if driving. Only 1 of the 3 hotels of this 3 centre holiday would I recommend Inntravel Holiday pack came with 1 Inntravel euro transfer bag tag each , we checked with their office before departure that this was the case. There was no time to negotiate another tag because of the late arrival of the pack. We therefore booked a taxi to change hotels because we did not want to walk with a Rucksack and a cabin bag. We felt for the same cost we could have booked more suitable hotels directly and would have booked a taxi between hotels to take us and all our luggage at the end of our walking day. All walks in area are well covered on the internet & u tube.

Inntravel's Back Lanes and Byways of North Norfolk

I went on Inntravel's "Back Lanes and Byways of North Norfolk" cycling tour with a group of 11. They managed to accomodate us at the three hotels. The routes chosen for our group were excellent: there were only 2 days out of 6 where cycling was necessary (hotel changes), and that suited some members of the group; there were optional loop tours on the other days that suited others. Almost all cycling was on low traffic roads. The hotels and meals were excellent. There was one negative, which is why I've only rated them 4 stars. The trip is advertised as including 4 dinners: one at each of the first and last hotels, two at the middle hotel. At two of the hotels a meal allowance was given. It was sufficient to cover a nice meal at the Rose and Crown, but at the Blakeney House a £40 allowance was given, and the only choice for the meal cost £60. (It was a delicious gourmet meal, but I think nobody in the group would have chosen it if there was a £40 choice.) We each had to pay an extra £20 for our "included" meal. This was misleading advertising.

We have just completed our 4th walking holiday with Inn Travel and couldn't rate them more highly. They are helpful and well organised and the routes and accommodation are well selected & researched.

Customer service department very unsatisfactory!

My partner and I posted a very poor review about our Inntravel walking holiday to Sicily. I fully expected a sympathetic response from their customer service department wanting to know what was wrong, what the company needed to do to improve matters and perhaps an offer of compensation a discount on our next holiday. I was wrong. Inntravel dismissed our complaint completely inferring that we were some sort of trouble makers and that ‘most’ clients were satisfied. They totally ignored the fact that this was a fourth holiday with the company and that the previous trips were excellent. They refuse to accept that from our perspective as previous clients, they totally mis-sold and exaggerated the quality and charm of the walking holiday in Sicily. To have our experienced views dismissed with such ease is both upsetting and insulting. We are are members of a large activity holiday group and we ensure that our fellow members are aware of Inntravel’s casual concern for customer satisfaction. I will not return to Inntravel!
