I chose to visit Malta because of the warm weather in April, I had no idea the magnificent experience that this would be! All arrangements were made through Exclusively Malta, the process was so simple and efficient. Since the moment we arrived until our departure every detail was taken care of. The itinerary offered real insight into the country and its history. We had a great walking tour of Valletta and had a very special tour of a private Palazzo with the descendants of the original family which was outstanding. Highly recommend.

Jason listened carefully to our requests (wine tasting, some hiking, boutique hotel in the center of Valletta, food experiences and one on one encounters) and incorporated them all and provided us with a great and flexible guide and driver.

Jason and Damon were fantastic from our initial conversation until the tour ended. Jason and Damon were incredibly responsive to all concerns and planned several exclusive events for us which were memorable.

To see as much as we did, you need a well planned, well executed schedule. Each day in Malta, we had private visits, but our favorites were the private after-hours visit to St. Johns Cathedral, the Chef Shopping, Cooking & Lunch on Gozo, the Palazzo Falzon in Mdina with Curator and a private palazzo. Unbelievably, there were still several “experiences” that couldn’t be arranged due to our timing. We’ll have to go back!

Malta is amazing and, for those of you who’ve never been here, consider putting it high on your list.

Malta was marvelous, and we thoroughly enjoyed all of it – most of which we’re pretty sure we got to see. The itinerary couldn’t have been better for us. In short, we had a great time, and we thank you most sincerely for having arranged it for us.

My whole group were delighted with every aspect of the tour along with all the little extra's you provided which were always a lovely addition. You have won me and all my fellow traveler's over with your over the top personal service and your attention to detail. Sincerely

I had the chance to personally use Exclusively Malta's services in October, and I can tell you that they are top notch. I would highly recommend Malta as a destination, but even if you have passengers who are only doing a one day shore excursion, this is the company to use. Do not let your clients see only Valletta – have Damon and Jason to get them to Rabat, a visit with an artisan gilder, see Mdina and St. John’s! Your clients will thank you – we were gone 25 days and this experience was one of our top three!

Damon is very hands on, and he has many local connections. Extremely personal and service oriented. We did a lot in 4 days! But it was not overwhelming, the people were very friendly, English is the official language, and it is quite safe. They say that the island is small and there is no place for criminals to hide.

My client just spent a half hour telling my how wonderful their experience was - how well planned it was and what a great time she had. What most impressed her was the little surprises, the table prepared for them at the Canons with drinks and hors d'oeuvres, the special attention, all unexpected. In the countryside, the personal visits with locals were wonderful. My recommendations re pacing were followed to a T. Actually, her impression was that everyone was listening to what her needs were and was happy to fulfill the smallest request. All the positive feedback is really significant, but they are very experienced travelers. She knows what's good and what is not. No negatives, only positives.

We are 50/50 about recommending Malta since its such a great place and we wouldn't want it to become too popular.

What exactly does adventure mean? It is a frequently used word which certainly means different things to different people. Each person will have their own opinion on what constitutes an adventure to them. That is part of the beauty of adventure.  

How do we define adventure ? For us, it is stepping out of your comfort zone to challenge yourself with new experiences and taking some degree of risk, no matter how small. You need to feel butterflies in your stomach, either from excitement and even some fear!  So we can say there are two key features of adventure. The first is the unknown. The less you know what the outcome of an activity will be, the more adventurous it is. The second feature of adventure is fear. Anything adventurous entails a little bit of fear and sometimes a lot of it!

Going on an adventure means breaking down your internal barriers. We should look forward to getting that odd feeling of fear and excitement before our next adventure because it means we are challenging our limits.

So why do something adventurous if it takes you out of your comfort zone? After all we usually, but not always ( Bilbo is a good example) have to actively look for adventure. Because being adventurous requires an attitude of mind whereby challenging yourself, pushing the limits of what you think you are capable of and extending those limits, is enormously satisfying. Perhaps the phrase ‘young at heart’ just means that someone is open to new adventures. For small children, every day is an adventure as it brings something new into their lives.

Most people would consider throwing themselves out of a plane or leaping from a platform with a bungee cord tied around their ankles as pretty adventurous but one doesn’t have to go to such extremes. For many people, the fear factor would overshadow the benefits of such an activity.  Every day has the potential to be an adventurous one. Taking the bus to work instead of driving, trying a new supermarket, making an effort have a conversation with someone at work you don’t usually talk to can all be considered adventurous activities.

Travel provides so many opportunities for adventure.  Just th e anticipation of boarding a plane bound for a new destination, mixing with strangers from other cultures and perhaps attempting to communicate in another language are exciting. That is one of the reasons travel is so popular. It gives you a great opportunity to push the limits of what you feel you are capable of, whether it is doing some activity - not necessarily sky diving - a walk through a local market will also do just as well :-), experiencing different cultures and tasting new food.

And to top it off a vacation gives you a chance to savour these new experiences as you relax in the evening, perhaps with a drink in hand as you chat to new friends about the day's experiences.

MnDOT asks motorists, farm equipment operators to safely share the road during planting season

ROCHESTER, Minn. — Motorists traveling on Minnesota roads this spring should watch for large farm equipment moving to and from the fields during planting season, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. 

Since 2020, there were 446 crashes involving farm equipment in Minnesota, resulting in eight deaths and 171 injuries. Inattentive driving and speed were the biggest contributing factors in those crashes. “Farmers need our highways to access fields statewide, so motorists should prepare to encounter slow-moving farm vehicles; especially on rural, two-lane roads,” said Brian Sorenson, state traffic engineer.  Farm equipment is large and heavy, making it hard for operators to accelerate, slow down and stop. The equipment also makes wide turns and sometimes crosses over the center line. In addition, farm vehicles can create large blind spots, making it difficult for operators to see approaching vehicles.  Motorists should:

• Slow down and use caution when approaching farm equipment
• Watch for debris dropped by farm equipment 
• Drive with headlights on at all times
• Wait for a safe place to pass

Farm equipment operators should:

• Use lights and flashers to make equipment more visible
• Use slow-moving vehicle emblems on equipment traveling less than 30 mph
• Consider using a follow vehicle when moving equipment, especially at night

Royal Caribbean profits soar as travelers pay 'record ticket prices' - in wake of teenager Levion Parker jumping overboard

• More than half the cruise operator's earnings growth stemmed from price hikes
• Its share price was near a record-high on Friday and up 17 percent this year 

Cruise operator Royal Caribbean has the wind in its sails.

The company said this week that soaring demand for vacations at sea has enabled it to sell tickets at record prices - doubling growth to its earnings.

It comes just weeks after a 20-year-old went missing after jumping overboard from one of its ships between Grand Inagua Island and Cuba .

Royal Caribbean Group's net income for the first quarter was $360 million compared to a loss of $48 million for the same period last year.

'Wow, what a great start to the year,' said CEO Jason Liberty on announcing the results this week. 'What transpired over the past three months was even better than our already elevated expectations.'

In light of the surge in ticket sales, Royal Caribbean lifted its annual profit forecast for a second time.

'Things just continue to accelerate and the thirst or hunger for our brands,' Liberty said during a post-earnings call.

Its success also comes even though the quarter aligns with the 'wave season' - the period after the new year which generally sees reduced demand and requires operators to slash prices to make sales.

In April, the company, which also operates Celebrity Cruises, with slightly more upmarket albeit smaller ships, experienced record bookings from 'both a volume and pricing standpoint.'

The operator carried just over 2 million passengers in the first quarter, nearly 14 percent higher year-over-year.

And not only that, Liberty noted that customers are spending more while they are on cruises and booking cruises even further in advance. 

Higher ticket prices have helped protect the company from slightly steeper net cruise costs expected this year due to increased dry dock days - during which ships will be taken out of the water for maintenance.

Canceled trips to the Red Sea due to ongoing conflict have also impacted earnings.

It has also faced slightly steeper fuel costs - spending $304 million over the three months as opposed to $302 million during the wave season quarter last year.

The company expects net cruise costs excluding fuel to increase about 5.5 percent for the year, up from its earlier forecast of around 4 percent.

Royal Caribbean's share price was flirting with an all-time high on Friday - trading at around $140 and up more than 16 percent this year.

Amtrak completes upgrades at durham station.

Customers will experience more accessible path to travel

WASHINGTON – Amtrak is excited to announce renovations at the Durham Station are now complete. The $1.5 million project to improve the station is part of the ongoing and companywide commitment at Amtrak to ensure a safe, efficient, and comfortable travel experience for customers.

The Amtrak Carolinian and Piedmont provide daily service to the station at 601 W. Main Street. The services are sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Transportation and operated by Amtrak and paid for through state funding and passenger fares. The trains operate between Raleigh and Charlotte, with the Carolinian continuing service to New York.

“Providing an accessible travel experience is a priority and we’re actively advancing construction, renovation, repair, and upgrade projects at stations across our national network,” Amtrak Vice President of Accessibility Dr. David Handera said. “We are pleased we delivered these improvements to the Durham station and for our customers and community.”

The renovation project included the installation of new doors and an automatic system for customers to enter and exit the station, and upgrades to the men’s and women’s restrooms. A new fire alarm system and signs were installed. A cane detection rail, a horizontal bar, was installed at the bottom of the ticket counter. The bar is detectable by a person who uses a cane, and it will alert them the counter is within their path.

Customers will access new accessible pathways extending from the parking lot to the station and platform, and accessible parking spaces. The station features new signs along the platform, parking lot and customer drop off area.

“The Federal Railroad Administration is excited about the upgrades completed at Durham Station, and we are proud of our work with Amtrak to ensure more Americans have access to the passenger rail service they need and deserve, which very much includes Americans with disabilities, our aging population, and others who rely on and benefit from accessible and convenient passenger rail,” FRA Administrator Amit Bose said. “As part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda and with funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the federal government is investing well over a billion dollars in rail projects and planning activities across North Carolina, and we will continue to invest even more across the country.”

Amtrak has invested more than $850 million since 2011 in accessibility upgrades and improvement projects at 120 stations across the national network to ensure a safe, efficient, and comfortable travel experience for customers with disabilities. The improvements include repairs and upgrades to platforms, ramps and sidewalks, and renovations to entranceways and restrooms, with 20 stations brought into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act last year. Another 35 stations are targeted for completion this fiscal year at a forecasted investment of $165 million.

Our program is advancing 140 station designs and 43 station construction projects as part of Amtrak’s ongoing commitment to providing accessibility by working toward 100% completion by 2029.

“Accessibility to everyone is an important part of the total passenger experience,” Jason Orthner, NCDOT Rail Division director said. “Working with Amtrak and local partners to ensure safe, accessible and convenient travel guarantee future growth and success of passenger rail in North Carolina and beyond.”

“The Durham Station provides many of our residents an alternative mode of transportation across the state and beyond. I am excited about these renovations, as these upgrades will increase accessibility and enhance rail travel for those in need here in Durham,” Mayor Leonardo Williams said.
