TripPlanner Price Range Help

Optimize your route. Reduce your ticket cost. Get personal advice by shceduling a phone appointment with a Flight Specialist here .

When we built AirTreks, our goal was to give you a bird's-eye-view of prices for your route as quickly as possible. Adding dates to request fares from a computer algorithm can sometimes eliminate the best options, miss interesting alternatives and be more time consuming than is absolutely necessary.

We believe your trip isn't just about punching cities into a form and seeing what comes back. Rather than rely on automated methods and your own data entry to locate airfares, we utilize the collective expertise of real people, travelers who have booked literally thousands of complex trips and have actually been to the places you want to go. That personal know-how, combined with your individual preferences, helps us come up with the very best routing and price possible for your AirTrek.

AirTreks' price range should be used as a guide (factor in a bit more for travel during high season or last-minute travel), and then submit to a Travel Planner for a specific personalised quote. Once you get to talking with us, we often find ways to reduce your cost or add in extras, creating amazing trips for you, every time.

*AirTreks prices always include taxes and fees.

Since AirTreks only requires a route to determine a trip's price, it's not until you're ready to purchase that your Travel Planner will make exact flight requests. As an AirTreks client, you'll be involved in the process of selecting all your itinerary details, the dates and times, when that point comes

Yes, you can request specific airlines, routes and non-stop or direct flights. Just let your AirTreks Travel Planner know your requirements and they'll adjust your itinerary to meet your needs.

This is a service of Airtreks International LLC.

Since 1987, AirTreks has been a leader in multi-stop international travel, especially complex routes with up to 25 stops.

We believe travel is vital: Our core values are making meaningful connections, embracing change, working and playing with passion, loving learning, and owning our experience.

Great and genuinely wonderful website that makes a proper vacation plan simple, like it should. All reviews are 5 stars. The only suggestion I have to enhance this fantastic website is to include a mobile application. Even paying for a version without ads wouldn't bother me.

Every traveller should use this!

So much easier & more helpful than a travel agency, given lots of fantastic ideas, and was extremely helpful for planning the trip. Would strongly advise my family and friends to use this!

Great tool for trip planning. Impportantly it's free and automatically tailors travel plans to your preferences and is completely customisable. The integration with skyscanner and booking.com, and other OTA like priceline and expedia makes it very easy to plan the whole trip along with the bookings in one place.

There's an easier way to plan and organize your trips—here's how

May 14, 2019

Richard Holden

Travel planning is complicated. The number of tools and amount of information you need to sift through when deciding where to go, where to stay and what flight to take can be time consuming and overwhelming. That’s why today, we’re simplifying the way we help travelers plan trips with Google across devices.

When you’re planning a trip—whether you’re on desktop or mobile—we want to help you find the information you need, fast. Last year , we simplified trip planning by making navigation between Google Flights, Hotels, and Trips easier on smartphones. We’re now rolling this out on desktop as well. You can either go to google.com/travel or search for something like “hotels in Tokyo” or “Vancouver” to find travel information from a variety of sources in one place.

As you plan a trip, your research and reservations will be organized for you in Trips. As we continue to evolve Google Trips, we’re making this information more accessible at google.com/travel, and in Google Search and Google Maps. We’re also adding a few new features to make planning and organizing your trips easier.

One place for all of your trip details

Last year , we started adding your trip reservations for things like hotels and flights to a trip timeline for your upcoming trips, when you’re signed into your Google account and you’ve received a confirmation in Gmail. When you go to google.com/travel, you can now make edits directly to your trips timeline, and in a few weeks you’ll be able to manually add new reservations as well.

Whether you’re packing your bags or finalizing your travel dates, the weather is an important part of every trip. You’ll now see the weather for any upcoming or potential trips at google.com/travel—so you can make sure you’re prepared, rain or shine.

Keep track of research and keep planning

It often takes days or weeks to plan a trip. When you need to pick up planning again, we’ll keep track of your trip research across Google. Recent searches, saved places and flights you’re tracking are added automatically to your trips when you’re signed into your Google Account. Soon, we’ll add viewed things to do and saved and viewed hotels to your trips. When you want to continue planning, all of your research will be waiting for you at google.com/travel. If you don’t want to see private results, you can opt out by adjusting your results and web & app activity settings.

When you’re ready to continue researching other parts of your trip, scroll down to see travel articles and find out more about a destination like suggested day plans, popular restaurants around your hotel and events happening during your dates.

Continue planning on-the-go

When you’re on-the-go or visiting a new place, we’ll do more to highlight things to do, restaurants and more with Google Maps. For instance, last year we made it easier to find the best places to see and things to do when using Google Maps to explore a new place. Now, we’ll also help you get the lay of the land when you’re traveling by pointing out popular neighborhoods nearby and what they’re known for.

And in the next few months, your trips—including reservations for things like hotels and restaurants—will be accessible in Google Maps, too.

Our goal is to simplify trip planning by helping you quickly find the most useful information and pick up where you left off on any device. We’ll continue to make planning and taking trips easier with Google Maps, Google Search and google.com/travel —so you can get out and enjoy the world.

Travel Better, Cheaper, Longer

How to Plan a Trip: A Month-by-Month Guide

Nomadic Matt wearing a backpack while walking along a beach in Hawaii

Trip planning can be a daunting task. Flights, insurance, gear, itineraries, accommodation, and so much more all need to be considered and sorted out before you go.

It’s easy to get overwhelmed , especially when you haven’t done something like this before.

After over close to twenty years of traveling the world, I’ve planned countless trips and vacations for myself, friends, and family, even group tours. In the beginning, it was trial by fire. I learned a lot of lessons the hard way . However, that helped me develop an efficient checklist that ensures I don’t miss anything important during the trip-planning process.

One big question I get asked a lot is when to start planning. To answer that question, this post breaks the planning process down into month-by-month steps so you can plan your next trip with ease.

Here’s how to plan a trip:

Table of Contents

12 Months Out: Decide on Your Destination(s)

12 months out: start collecting points & miles, 8 months out: visa requirements, passports, and vaccines, 4-6 months out: book your flight, 3-4 months out: book your accommodation, 2 months out: plan your activities, 1 month out: get travel insurance, 7 days out: pack.

A large commercial jet flying through the bright blue sky as it takes off

If you already have a dream destination in mind, great! If not, here are some posts to help you get started:

  • 11 Cheap Places to Visit on the US Dollar
  • 10 Places to Travel on a Budget
  • The Best Tropical Islands in the World
  • My Favorite Cities in the World
  • My 31 Favorite Places to Visit in the USA

But, this far out, the real thing you want to do is start saving money and figuring out your costs. Accommodation and flights are the obvious ones, but how much do restaurants, attractions, and other activities cost? Knowing these costs will allow you accurately estimate how much money you’ll need. Here is how to research costs:

  • Buy a guidebook
  • Check out my free travel guides (we break down all costs for each destination)
  • Skim the cost of living on Numbeo.com
  • Google prices for major activities you want to do, such as scuba diving, winery tours, etc. ( Get Your Guide is a good place to start)
  • Use Skyscanner or Google Flights for flight prices and sign up for alerts to get emails if the price changes
  • Use Discover Cars to price out (and book) a rental car if you need one
  • Use Booking.com and Hostelworld to research accommodation costs

That may seem like a lot but you just want to get a general idea of how much you need to save. You can head to this page to see all my articles on how to save money for your trip .

A bunch of different travel credit cards being held by avid traveler Nomadic Matt

These days, most cards have welcome offers of 60,000-80,000 points (some can be as high as 100,000) when you meet their minimum spending requirement (generally $2,000-5,000 USD within a 3–6-month time frame). That’s enough miles for a free round-trip economy flight to Europe from the East Coast of North America.

For more information on this subject, check out these posts:

  • How to Pick the Best Travel Credit Card
  • My Favorite Travel Credit Cards
  • How to Earn Points by Paying Your Rent
  • The Ultimate Guide to Points & Miles
  • How to Collect Points & Miles in Canada

In addition, get a fee-free ATM card. I use Charles Schwab, but there are lots of other banks that don’t charge ATM fees (don’t forget to check your local banks and credit unions too). Here’s how you can avoid bank fees while traveling .

While you likely won’t need a visa to your desired destination, you should still check to make sure. If you’re a US citizen, use the State Department’s search tool to learn about your destination’s entry requirements. (Canadians can use this search tool .)

Additionally, make sure that your passport is valid for at least six months after your trip ends. Many countries require this for entry. Passport application and renewal wait times can be long (the standard is 6-8 weeks in the US), so do this as soon as possible.

Also, research if you need any vaccines for your trip as many countries require vaccines to enter (and I don’t mean COVID). You can learn more about country requirements and recommendations at the CDC’s website . They can help you find a clinic near you as well (if you’re in the US).

A huge commerical airliner flying through the dark blue sky as it comes in for a landing at an airport

Here are two articles on how to score a cheap flight:

  • How to Always Find Cheap Flights
  • 5 Steps to Booking a Cheap Flight

If you’ve signed up for a travel credit card and received your sign-up bonus, use your miles to book your flight and/or hotel. The further out you book, the more availability there will be. Use tools like Point.me and Awayz to help you find the best redemptions on your points (for flights and hotels, respectively).

But even if you aren’t using miles or didn’t find a cheap flight deal, there are still many ways to avoid being the person on the flight who paid the most for their ticket. My two favorite sites for finding cheap airfare are Skyscanner and Google Flights .

A small rolling suitcase standing near the door in a cozy hotel room abroad

Here are my go-to sites when it comes to finding the best deals on accommodation:

  • Hostelworld – Hostelworld has the largest selection of hostels and is my go-to site for finding affordable hostels.
  • Booking.com – Booking.com is the best overall platform for finding budget hotels and guesthouses.
  • Agoda – Agoda has the best results if you’re heading to Asia (though it sometimes has good US deals too).

I recommend checking the cancelation policy of wherever you book. I like having the flexibility to cancel if something comes up.

If you’re on a tight budget or you want to connect with more locals during your travels, consider joining platforms like Couchsurfing or BeWelcome . These communities allow travelers to stay with residents for free as a sort of cultural exchange.

Long-term travelers can also try housesitting or WWOOFing as well, as they both offer free accommodation (in exchange for pet sitting or farm work, respectively).

Now it’s time for the fun part of travel planning! That means reading books about your destination, learning general travel tips, connecting with online communities, and pre-booking any necessary activities.

Pre-booking ensures you don’t miss out on things that you really want to do on your trip. If you’re going to a popular destination, tours and activities fill up quickly, and if you’re going to a smaller place, activities or tours might only run on certain days and have limited availability.

Either way, Get Your Guide the best place to search for and pre-book activities, tours, and tickets. Local tour operators and attractions can list their offerings on this online marketplace, so you can find tons of stuff here, from food tours to museum tickets with skip-the-line entry.

Get travel insurance . That way, these purchases are protected should something happen that makes you cancel your trip.

A lot of people think, “I’m healthy. I don’t need travel insurance.” But travel insurance is much more than just medical protection. It covers you when your camera breaks, your flight is canceled, a family member dies and you have to come home, or something gets stolen. (That’s why you’ll also want to familiarize yourself with any common travel scams to look out for, as well as how to conduct yourself in order to blend in to avoid looking like a target for petty theft.)

Yes, it’s an added expense. But it’s always better to be safe than sorry. I never leave home without it, because I’ve seen firsthand just what can happen on the road.

I never thought I would pop my eardrum while I was scuba diving in Thailand, break my camera in Italy, or get knifed in Colombia.

Unfortunately, bad things can happen when you’re traveling. True, these events are few and far between. But they can cost tens of thousands of dollars. If you’re not prepared to pay out of pocket, buy travel insurance.

I never leave home without travel insurance. You shouldn’t either.

Nomadic Matt's gear on the bed as he packs his backpack before a trip

I travel with a 45L REI bag and then a smaller day bag. Here’s my suggested packing list to help you take just the right amount of stuff and avoid overpacking ( here’s a list for female travelers ).

Additionally, bring any prescriptions you need for the duration of your trip. Try not to rely on filling those abroad (though bring a prescription and doctor’s note just in case).

With everything taken care of, it’s time to go on your trip and have fun! Make a list of last-minute items you need to pack the day of (your toothbrush, glasses, phone charger, etc.) and check in online beforehand (you can do so 24 hours in advance). (If you’ve got lounge access through a premium travel rewards card , you might find yourself looking forward to getting to the airport early.)

If you’re feeling nervous, don’t worry. That’s perfectly normal. Feeling anxious or unsure is something every traveler experiences. But you’ve made it this far. Trust your planning and follow your instincts. You’re about to have the trip of a lifetime.

Book Your Trip: Logistical Tips and Tricks

Book Your Flight Find a cheap flight by using Skyscanner . It’s my favorite search engine because it searches websites and airlines around the globe so you always know no stone is being left unturned.

Book Your Accommodation You can book your hostel with Hostelworld . If you want to stay somewhere other than a hostel, use Booking.com as it consistently returns the cheapest rates for guesthouses and hotels.

Don’t Forget Travel Insurance Travel insurance will protect you against illness, injury, theft, and cancellations. It’s comprehensive protection in case anything goes wrong. I never go on a trip without it as I’ve had to use it many times in the past. My favorite companies that offer the best service and value are:

  • SafetyWing (best for everyone)
  • Insure My Trip (for those 70 and over)
  • Medjet (for additional evacuation coverage)

Want to Travel for Free? Travel credit cards allow you to earn points that can be redeemed for free flights and accommodation — all without any extra spending. Check out my guide to picking the right card and my current favorites to get started and see the latest best deals.

Need Help Finding Activities for Your Trip? Get Your Guide is a huge online marketplace where you can find cool walking tours, fun excursions, skip-the-line tickets, private guides, and more.

Ready to Book Your Trip? Check out my resource page for the best companies to use when you travel. I list all the ones I use when I travel. They are the best in class and you can’t go wrong using them on your trip.

How to Use Our New Trip Builder Tool

How to use Centrav’s new “Trip Builder”

As we roll out Centrav’s new website, we want to highlight some new features and tools we’ve added to make your booking experience easier and more customizable than ever. One of these features is our new “Trip Builder” tool. The fresh design is updated with a clean look and some powerful, new features.

Here is what you can expect!

What does it do?

The Trip Builder allows you to build itineraries segment-by-segment, so you can get exactly what you want. It works similar to a GDS (without the complicated commands), showing you availability first, rather than pricing. With Trip Builder, you can create complex itineraries, add stopovers, and manipulate your itinerary as you go.

How can you access it?

This feature can be accessed from the “Trip Builder” tab of your booking screen. If you prefer to price out a “shell” of an itinerary, you can create a round trip, one way, or open jaw itinerary in the general search. After selecting an itinerary from the options available, simply click “edit” instead of “confirm” and your selected flights will drop into the trip builder.

When should you use it?

While the standard search option will provide itinerary options in price order, Trip Builder lets you select flights first and then price them. It is a great tool to use when you know in advance which flights you need. This is useful when you are helping a client book an unusual schedule or desiring to match flights to a travel companion who has booked airfare on their own.

What is new?

With Trip Builder, you are still able to select the number of adults and children. Like our new general search option, you can now add infants as well. Centrav’s redesigned Trip Builder tool also allows you to select your booking class, as you would in a GDS.

Priceline Introduces Trip Builder

May 20, 2019

Advanced Bundling Platform Designed to Propel Exploration and Multiply Savings

NORWALK, CT – May 20, 2019 – Driven by a fundamental evolution in the way Americans travel, spurred by the rise of the sharing economy and the prevalence of mobile booking, Priceline ® today announced two major changes to its platform. Priceline has added more than two million listings of alternative accommodations , including apartments, vacation homes, even boats and treehouses. Priceline has also unveiled Trip Builder , a remarkable new booking platform that lets users bundle all of the most popular options, including alternative accommodations, into one transaction. And when they do, travelers gain access to privately negotiated rates that are otherwise unavailable.

Historically, bundled bookings involved a single round-trip flight purchased with one hotel or rental car. Bundling can dramatically lower the combined price due to the private rates. However, limitations abounded: travelers were required to include a flight with every booking, choose only one hotel, and could only book one trip at a time. Those restrictions still exist on other booking platforms, but Priceline has eliminated them.

Travelers can now book much more imaginative trips on Priceline, with less work and more savings. Trips with a flight and multiple hotels in different cities. Road trips featuring stays in private apartments and hotels, with no flight required. A mix of private homes and hotels, booked for trips to be taken at different times. When bundled together on Trip Builder, the collective price can be hundreds of dollars less than if they were booked independently.

“We know that bundles deliver real savings – an average of $240 per transaction on Priceline. But we also know the universe of customers who can save is much larger,” said Brett Keller, CEO of Priceline. “Our analysts found that for every one person who booked a bundle on Priceline, nine times as many people booked flights and hotels separately for the same trip. So we created Trip Builder, and added alternative accommodations to the flight, hotel and car options. Now our customers have the flexibility to book more creative trips in one sitting, even trips at different times, while saving much more money.”

Trip Builder is unique within the worldwide travel marketplace. It is powered by an advanced recommendation engine that uses machine learning to instantly analyze millions of prospective deals and present the best combination of choice and savings for travelers’ consideration.

How Travel Behaviors Have Evolved

The sharing economy has made alternative accommodations an increasingly popular travel option. The days of “one round-trip flight and one hotel in one destination” are disappearing. Today’s trips are far more imaginative. They include a mix of hotels and private homes, travel between multiple destinations and a near-ubiquitous reliance on mobile devices.

People now book trips closer to the day they intend to depart, and the majority of travelers book trips via mobile, versus desktop. This means more spontaneous trips to less expected destinations. Today’s traveler has a far easier time exploring the world, because a world of options are bookable via their mobile device.

Because alternative accommodations can be booked alongside flights, hotels and rental cars on Trip Builder, the kinds of trips that would typically be complicated to plan and book are now much simpler. Travelers will only have to manage a single itinerary, versus many. They will be able to pocket additional savings by booking trips that include many different components, even for trips that take place months apart.

Below are examples of trips that can be booked on Trip Builder, and the savings they could yield:

  • The Wedding Warriors

A young New York-based couple has three weddings to attend over the course of three months. In one transaction, they book four-star hotel stays in downtown Boston, Philadelphia and Washington, DC. Trip Builder savings: $330.

  • The Vegas Getaway

A husband and wife decide to visit Las Vegas for the first time. They book a round-trip flight from Chicago and elect to spend the week in three different high-end hotels within walking distance, rather than just one. Trip Builder savings: $301.

  • The Sonoma Wine Tour

A pair of friends decide to tour multiple wineries throughout Wine Country. They book a round-trip flight from Atlanta, rent a convertible and spend nights in an upscale campground in Geyersville, a charming cottage in Sonoma, and in popular hotels in Napa and San Francisco. One transaction, one itinerary. Trip Builder savings: $395.

These trips and countless others can be booked in one transaction on Trip Builder. Savings estimates were calculated by comparing the Trip Builder price versus the cost of booking each component separately.

Frequently asked questions

  • Flying can be a stress-free experience if you bring the right things. Firstly, you’ll want a few basic toiletries, such as a toothbrush and some deodorant, a fresh change of clothes and a good book. Next, find room in your carry-on bag for your phone and charger, medications and maybe a comfy neck pillow too. Last, but definitely not least, remember to bring your passport, travel papers and your bank cards.
  • Double-check that you don’t have a Swiss Army knife hiding in one of the zippers of your carry-on luggage. Other prohibited items include explosive or flammable goods, such as aerosol cans and bleach, and gels and liquids in containers larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters).
  • Comfort should always be your priority when picking what to wear during your flight. Consider your footwear with care too, as swollen ankles and feet are a common side effect of flying. Shoes which are flat and slightly roomy work well.
  • The condition called deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a risk on long-haul flights. It results from blood clots forming due to poor circulation and inactivity. Walking around the cabin and doing regular leg and foot exercises while seated is a great way to prevent this happening. Wearing a high-quality pair of compression socks also helps reduce the risk.
  • Airport security personnel first need to check that you have a valid ID and matching boarding pass before you’re allowed to proceed any further. Have them ready for inspection.
  • Time to strip down. Well sort of. Your coat, belt, keys and other items in your pocket, like your headphones, will be required to go through the X-ray machine. Make the whole process faster by removing them before your turn arrives.
  • For just a few minutes, you’ll need to unplug from the digital world. Your phone, laptop and any other electronic gadgets must also go through the scanner.
  • Any gels or liquids, such as toothpaste or perfume, that you want to take on board need to be in containers no greater than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters). Also, everything must fit inside a quart-size (one liter), zip-lock bag.
  • Slip-on shoes are a great footwear choice as you’re less likely to be required to remove them when passing through security. Big boots and heavier-style shoes are often subjected to extra screening.
  • Take all prohibited items out of your carry-on bag. If you have any sharp objects like a pocket knife or tools, pack them in your checked luggage. They won’t be allowed in the cabin.
