DIE ANTWOORD took a long break from touring the world in 2019 to focus again on what they love doing best: Music and art. Now Die Antwoord announce their: REANIMATION.

Ninja says: "We've been working in private for so long that some people thought we were dead!" And -¥o-Landi adds: "So we decided to name our new EU / UK tour, DIE ANTWOORD REANIMATED!" But it won't just be a few live shows, where you'll once again realize that songs like "I Fink U Freeky", "Baby's On Fire" or "Ugly Boy" are unbelievably brain-blasting rave- rap bastards. At the same time, the band released a trailer for their new documentary entitled "ZEF The Story of Die Antwoord". Produced and directed by South African filmmaker Jon Day. The art featured in the film was created by South African artist Roger Ballen, whose work was a key influence on the aesthetics of the early videos and records. The documentary's narrator is Ninja and ¥o-Landi's shared daughter Sixteen Jones. Die Antwoord have also teased their sixth album: it will be called "UIT DE HEMEL GEVALLEN" and will be released in 2024.

Die Antwoord will play their only show in Germany in Berlin in April 2024.

Zef rappers Die Antwoord have announced an extensive 18-date fall tour across America coinciding with their final album '27' . Their House of Zef Tour kicks off September 9th in Morrison and runs into October visiting most major markets including Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Dallas, Atlanta, Washington DC, New York and Philadelphia. Prior to the tour, the group will be making dozens of festival appearances across Europe during the summer.

Die Antwoord should be releasing their fifth and final studio album '27' (originally titled 'The Book of Zef' ) sometime in 2019. Their previous 2016 album 'Mount Ninji and da Nice Time Kid' reached a career-best #34 on the Billboard 200 and features guest appearances by Sen Dog, Dita Von Teese, Lil Tommy Terror and Jack Black . The following year, the rappers launched their Love Drug World Tour which visited North America, Mexico and Europe.

Fans have speculated about the band’s return since they released new singles including Babaji and Land of Honey. Reddit fans have been puzzled about the removal of these songs from their YouTube channel, which came just before the tour announcement.

According to the post, made in November on their official Facebook page, the tour covers the EU and UK.

Along with the announcement, Yo-Landi is shown getting stylized surgery for a mock-up cover. The band’s profile picture has also changed to a close-up of the band member’s face.

So far, there’s no official word on what material the tour will include, or which producers will be joining them for the showrun.

Ninja once said "Trying to experience Die Antwoord through a screen is like trying to experience the ocean in a bathtub" But since i went nuts for Die Antwoord before only by watching their videos and listening to them on my iPod, I never imagined that they could still surprise and overwhelm me like THAT. Their music was produced just for this purpose: to play it infront of a huge bouncing crowd with an insane bass that goes right through your heart and burns your soul. Ninja and Yolandi are clearly professionals, their concept, their appearence on stage is thought-through with a natural easiness, and you can see how much they enjoy themselves. The moment the concert was over I knew I would definitely go to the next concert

The Die Antwoord controversy, explained

Die Antwoord is no strangers to controversy. In fact, they’re probably known for the allegations against them more than their music nowadays.

For those unaware, Die Antwoord is a musical duo from South Africa who made it big in the early 2010s with their alternative hip-hop/rave style music that drew upon elements from the South African counter-culture movement known as “Zef.” Their songs charted in countries across the globe and featured in popular media including video games like Far Cry 3 . The singers are Watkin Tudor “Ninja” Jones and Anri “Yolandi Visser” Du Toit and the producers are HITEK5000 and Lil2Hood.

What did Die Antwoord do?

There have been multiple accusations made against the pair, including sexual assault and homophobia. However, the most serious allegation against Jones and Du Toit comes from Gabriel “Tokkie” Du Preez, a young boy adopted by the musicians when he was just nine years old. He wasn’t the only child to be adopted; they also took his younger sister in and fostered a couple of others as well. The young boy featured in some of Die Antwoord’s music videos such as “I Fink U Freeky” and he also appeared at some of the shows.

In 2022, Du Preez, who was 20 at the time, spoke up about what he and his sister saw and experienced while living with their foster parents. Speaking with News24 , he said, “They made me feel like I was actually a slave. They adopted me to be a slave. They made me feel like I wasn’t really being loved.” He revealed in the interview that they also made him record videos swearing and degrading his biological family for being poor and even made him believe that he was the devil.

This all came after a shocking 44-minute interview with Du Preez and Die Antwoord collaborator Ben Jay Crossman containing serious allegations against the musicians. Apparently, Jones and Du Toit would take him and his sister to a private clinic to have blood drawn to be used in rituals. Jones also supposedly showed Du Preez pornographic material when he was just 11 years old and Du Preez also claims that his sister was encouraged to undress and join the duo and other naked adults in the sauna. In another instance, the young boy also stabbed his older brother and was praised for doing so, with the scene later being recreated in a music video from 2019.

Deny Antwoord

Die Antwoord responded to the allegations claiming that they were not true. According to an article from The Fader , they claimed that Du Preez, Crossman and News24 conspired to fabricate the story for financial gain. Regardless, Jones and Du Toit have avoided facing much in the way of consequences for what Du Preez says they did. They even managed to avoid being canceled (or maybe they’re just ignorant to the fact that they have been) as they announced the Die Antwoord Reanimated tour this year and many of their shows are already sold out.
