Lawrence Tours - Vancouver Sightseeing Tours

British Columbia is excellent wine countr y

East of Vancouver is a prime wine growing region (Langley). Langley Township is made up of farmland, modern and traditional homesteads. This region is home to nearly half of the province’s agricultural activity, including nearly 30 vineyards and 15 wineries. These wineries are committed to producing some of Canada’s finest wines; our preferred venues are small, high-quality, family-run operations. The ideal location for escaping city life and enjoying some fine wine.

Lawrence Tours’ half-day winery tour of British Columbia’s Fraser/Campbell Valley includes downtown Vancouver hotel pickup at 10 a.m. and accommodates individuals and groups of up to 11 people. Your guide and driver will narrate as you travel through the greater Vancouver area and into the Fraser/Campbell Valley to Langley, where you will visit three wineries: Backyard Vineyards , Township 7 , and Festina Lente Estate : Premium Honey Wines (Mead)

Extra wineries to visit if time allows and the establishments are open: the Vista D’oro Winery and Preservatory , Glass House Estate Winery – for local white wines, Chaberton Estate Winery .

Upon arrival at each winery, the owner or representative will provide guests with an overview of their history, specialty products, and, of course, a sampling of 4-5 wines of your choice for $10-$20 CAD per guest. A small charcuterie selection of cheese and condiments, as well as sparkling water, are included in the price at the third winery (additional wineries may have different pricing structures) .

Fraser Valley Winery tour (5 hours):

  • Pick-up from Downtown , B&B, residence or Vancouver hotel 10:00am

Testimonials

Jennifer D.

My son and I took the Frasier Valley Wine tour. We’ve been on many wine tours over the years but none can compare to the tour we had with Michael. He was very cordial, attentive and extremely knowledgeable about the city of Vancouver, Frasier Valley, the wineries and their wines. He provided us with the ultimate wine experience. For anyone traveling to Vancouver we highly recommend a tour with Lawrence tours, you won’t be disappointed. Thank you Michael for a very memorable experience!

Sherpa47677723973

My husband and I have gone wine tasting in Napa, Sonoma, France and Italy and were excited to try out the wines of Vancouver. Michael Lawrence of Lawrence Tours picked us up right on time, in a clean, nice Mercedes Sprinter van. On the drive out, he told us a lot of history of Vancouver which was an added bonus to the tour. The wineries he chose were each different and equally great. We had plenty of time to enjoy the tastings and chat with the winemakers—we never felt rushed. Overall, it was an excellent experience.

Monica M.

Amazing tour and tour guide! We went to the Fraser Valley for a wine tour. Spent the day visiting 5 small, amazing wineries – tasting everything from bubbles to honey wine to jams in the process. Ended the day at a cute little town for lunch and some sight seeing. Michael was an incredibly informative tour guide…. not only about the wineries but about the region as well. We’ve been on several tours and this was definitely the easiest, most informative, and most enjoyable experience.

Yuet Sau W.

Pat & John P.

We just finished a tour to Fraser Valley wineries with Lawrence Tours and would rate it 5 stars *****. Michael was extremely knowledgeable and attentive during the entire tour. He was punctual and gave us an experience that was everything we expected and more. We went to 5 wineries and stopped for a delicious lunch. Each winery was different and unique. He gave us a preview of what to expect and was spot on each time. We highly recommend his tours and are already planning our next one.

Karen C.

Best guide I have ever had! I would definitely recommend this tour! Michael was great as he picked me up from where I stayed and got to meet a lovely bunch! Michael was well knowledged in every aspect, knew the whole Vancouver inside out and gave us much background information on the area and also on Vancouver. Too bad I didn’t have enough time in Van or else I am sure I will join the other tours that he offers!

10 Tour Planning Tips When Planning Your Fraser Valley Wine Tour

  • Plan for $10-20 tasting fees at each venue.  If you purchase 1-2 bottles per person they will probably waive some.
  • Pre-plan where you want to eat lunch.  Fast lunch (Backyard, Township 7) or long lunch (Glass House)?
  • Have the group pay you ahead of time for anything you'll be stuck paying if they back out.  This can be reservation fees, limo, tour, taxi fees
  • Bring a water bottle, that way you can keep going and stay hydrated
  • Treat the staff with respect and you'll get better service
  • Leave the troublemaker at home.  One bad egg can cause the wineries to treat your entire group like the rotten egg
  • It's okay to use the spit bucket, just do not drink it (Seriously, we've seen it and Chaberton still hasn't let us live it down years later)
  • Pre-book your tastings to keep things moving or you could be waiting.  This also helps the wineries plan their staffing and food if necessary
  • Plan the end of the day before you are all drunk.  This stops from having to make 10 different drop offs and lets face it, drunk people are not as good at planning as sober people (Yea right?)
  • Use a photo cloud or airdrop for your photos.  This makes it way easier to collect photos at the end.  Tour guides do a great job of this.

A day trip from Vancouver to these wineries in Langley will satisfy your inner sommelier

When thinking about all things wine, one often dreams of Napa Valley or Tuscany and not touring wineries in Langley BC. However, one can, and should, look at wineries much closer to the city. Whether you’re strapped for cash or time, you can feel like you’ve had a holiday without going far.

The suburbs of Vancouver can provide wine lovers with a place to sip and savour delicious wine. Less than an hour outside Vancouver, Langley wineries are serving up award-winning wines.

Langley wineries to visit just outside of Vancouver

When going far isn’t an option, it’s nice to know that we have a number of wineries within close proximity of Vancouver. Langley has the perfect climate and soil for growing grapes.

How many wineries are there in Langley?

According to Langley Tourism, there are currently 9 wineries in Langley. This includes both traditional grape wineries as well as fruit wineries.

Many of the wineries in Langley, BC produce award-winning VQA (Vintners Quality Assurance) wines. BC VQA wines are made from 100% BC-grown grapes that have been approved through a strict quality assurance program.

I should note that all of the wineries covered in this post are located in the Langley area. As such, they are approximately a 45-minute drive from downtown and they are all located very close to one another. While there are a few fruit wineries out that way, I did not include any here.

Don’t want to drive? There’s no need to draw straws for who has to be the designated driver. Hire one instead! There are several Langley Winery tours that will pick you up from downtown Vancouver and do all the driving.

Enjoying a glass of Langley wine at Backyard Winery

The first stop on my Langley wineries tour day trip was Backyard Vineyards. It is open for both tastings and tours. I opted for a tasting where I sampled 5 wines. A regular tasting is 4 wines, but our awesome hostess gave us a bonus wine to try.

I quite liked a lot of the wines I tried, which is not surprising since eleven of the wines from Backyard Vineyards won awards in 2019. And an impressive 30 of their wines won awards in 2018.

They occasionally offer Date Nights with limited capacity so check to see if these are going on when you wish to visit. You get two glasses of wine along with a cheese and charcuterie platter to share.

Sharing wine and cheese overlooking the Fraser Valley will almost feel like you’ve been transported to Tuscany. Details and reservation information is available on their website.

I must start off by saying that the outdoor patio space at Blackwood Lane is gorgeous! It is the feature image for this blog post. I would say that it is the most picturesque of all the wineries in Langley BC. The views from their vineyard are stunning. Next time, I’ll definitely plan to make this my lunch stop.

Blackwood Lane currently uses disposable plastic wine glasses for their tasting, or you can purchase a wine glass from them. They do not use any chemicals or mechanical pumps. And they only use their barrels once. After each use, they either sell them or repurpose them as reclaimed wine barrel furniture .

Perhaps the most unique wine I tasted all day was their Sea Buckthorn Reisling. Chock full of vitamins, minerals and Omega fatty acids, Sea Buckthorn berries are considered to be a superfood. Delicious and healthy? I’m in! For the reds, I especially liked Alliànce. It is rich and full-bodied.

Getting married? This is one of the wineries in Langley to check out for weddings. If you’re interested in getting married elopement-style, you should check out their Pop-Up Wedding event. It is taking place on May 22nd. They take care of all the details, you just show up with your 8 guests. Details can be found online here .

If you go: tastings are only available on Saturday and Sunday and you must make a reservation and put down a deposit to secure your spot.

Wineries worth a visit in BC

Family-owned, this Langley winery is part of the Joseph Richard Group. It is a boutique winery that produces hand-selected, single-vineyard, low-yield artisan wine. The winery’s name, Glass House, pays homage to the family’s 60-year history in the greenhouse industry.

I am a lover of red wine and, while I do sample whites at tastings, it is rare that I like one. This was one such occasion. I liked both their Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc so much that I bought a bottle of each! The Sauvignon Blanc is meant to accompany spicier dishes so I am looking forward to making a curry dish for dinner one night.

Charcutierie board and glass of white wine at a winery

Before heading off to the next winery on our Langley wineries tour, we stopped to enjoy a Charcuterie board on their back patio. When doing several wineries in a day it’s important to eat something, lol!

If you go: they are accepting walk-ins and we got right in for both the tasting and lunch

wine tour langley

Next up, and the final stop in this Langley winery tour, is a winery rich with French history, but that makes 100% BC wines. Their Bacchus bistro may be authentically French, but they prepare everything with local ingredients and a West Coast flair.

Established in 1991, Chaberton Estate Winery is the Fraser Valley’s oldest winery. In 2020, they took home an impressive 23 awards from a variety of different competitions.

Currently, they are offering tastings in the form of wine flights of four different wines. Once you receive your flight you will be directed to a table in their outdoor dining area.

If you go: they are only accepting walk-ins right now

Fully booked the day I went out to Langley, I was unable to visit Township 7. While I did not visit them on this winery tour, I have previously been there and enjoyed their wines. This Langley winery boasts of serving their Chardonnay to Her Majesty the Queen at a Government of Canada State Dinner in 2010. Quite an accomplishment indeed!

They are hosting several events in the coming weeks, including a Winemaker’s Dinner on May 22nd. Details on that and other upcoming events can be found on the Township 7 website . They are hosting a wine and chocolate pairing event for Mother’s Day. A great idea if you wish to plan ahead and treat mom 😉

If you go: book reservations well in advance to avoid disappointment

As they do not have an outdoor dining area, Vista d’Oro winery was closed the day I was touring the wineries in Langley so I did not get to visit. I have been there in the past and from what I recall it was lovely.

If you go: at the time of writing, they were closed due to indoor dining restrictions

All the wines I purchased during my Langley wineries tour

With the exception of Vista d’Oro, all of the wineries in Langley, BC that I mentioned here have outdoor seating or patio space available. If you are looking for a fun day trip, I suggest heading out to these Langley wineries. Sip a Cab Sav on a patio overlooking the Fraser Valley and imagine you’re in a Tuscan villa. Cheers!

I am purchasing and drinking BC wine more than ever before. I truly believe that we vote with our dollars and I try and put as much as I can into our local economy. I’ll happily raise a glass to support BC wines, whether that’s in the Okanagan Valley or Langley.

If you are looking to travel a little further and take a road trip to the Okanagan Valley, check out my posts on Beautiful Oliver Wineries that are worth a visit as well as my post on the wineries in the Okanagan Valley .

The nectar of the gods, you say? The only thing that can make you a scholar or good poet (at least according to the myths of Odin)? The term ‘mead’ is commonly used interchangeably with the term ‘honey wine’. Thought to be the oldest know alcohol on earth, it can be as distinct as the cultures who appreciate it. Each meadery accross Canada is producing their own artistic expression of this ancient beverage.  Here at Campbell’s Gold Honey Farm & Meadery we explore a variety of tasting experiences. Not only do we make a dry and sweet mead, but we create melomels by adding fruit, cysors with the addition of apples, pyments with grapes and metheglin with zests and spice palettes. As we plant many different crops for our bees, we work with mother nature each year and produce over thirty styles of honey wine (dry, sweet and everything in between) all made directly here at our family farm.

Offered Tasting: We offer a tasting of up to 3 x 50 ml sips of a cross section of our honey wines.  For purchases from passport holders we offer a 10% discount on any bottles purchased.

Note: Reservations are preferred but not mandatory.
