2009-2020 Dodge Journey Towing Capacity Resource Guide With Charts!

2009-2020 Dodge Journey Towing Capacity Resource Guide With Charts!

The Dodge Journey is a nice little car or crossover SUV, whatever you want to call it, but I was actually surprised at their towing capacity and the fact that they had any whatsoever and to be honest was shocked to see some of the numbers that I saw when I was doing the research.

In this article, I look into how much they can actually pull and have included model years 2009 to 2020, so I can encompass all of the vehicles possible in one (easy-to-read) post. I hope this article helps somebody out there who may be wondering about their specific capacity specs for their Journey. Let's dive in!

Overview of the Data For the Dodge Journeys:

Engine Choices: Over the years, from 2009 to 2020, the Dodge Journey had four different engines to choose from and the engine you had equipped affected the capacity numbers somewhat but not as much as some other factors like: the number of people that were in the vehicle and whether you had the trailer tow prep package installed.

The engines I came across were: the 2.4 liter engine, the 3.5 liter engine, the 3.6 liter engine and the 2.7L engine. I wanted to break down the data even further and give weight rating ranges based on the four different engine options.

  • 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010 and 2009 Journeys that used the 2.4L engine had a towing capacity of up to 1,000 lbs.
  • 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012 and 2011 Journeys that used the 3.6L engine had a towing capacity of 1,500-2,500 lbs.
  • 2010 and 2009 Journeys that had the 3.5L engine had a towing capacity of 2,500-3,500 lbs. (with trailer package) and 1,000-2,000 lbs. (w/o package)
  • 2009 Journeys that had the 2.7L engine had a towing capacity of 1,000-3,000 lbs. (with trailer package) and 1,000-2,000 lbs. (w/o package)

The Trim Levels: Looking at the different trim levels proved to be quite challenging, as there were some trim levels that only appeared for a handful of years, while others were prominent for most of the life of the vehicle.

The trim level did not have a direct effect on the trailer weight ratings, but they did have limited engine options available to them, in some cases which indirectly affected the numbers

I broke down the different trim levels that were available and listed their respective towing capacity based on Dodge's specs:

  • 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016 and 2015 SE (2.4l) : 1,000 lbs.
  • 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016 and 2015 SE (3.6l) : 1,500-2,500 lbs.
  • 2014, 2013, 2012, 2010 and 2009 SE (2.4l) : 1,000 lbs.
  • 2020 Crossroad (2.4l) : 1,000 lbs.
  • 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016 and 2015 Crossroad (3.6l) : 1,500-2,500 lbs.
  • 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, and 2013 SXT (2.4l) : 1,000 lbs.
  • 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013 and 2012 SXT (3.6l) : 1,500-2,500 lbs.
  • 2010 and 2009 SXT (3.5l) : 1,000-3,500 lbs.
  • 2019, 2018 and 2017 GT (3.6l) : 1,500-2,500 lbs.
  • 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013 and 2012 RT (3.6l) : 1,500-2,500 lbs.
  • 2010 and 2009 RT (3.5l) : 1,000-3,500 lbs.
  • 2015 and 2014 Limited (3.6l) : 1,500-2,500 lbs.
  • 2015, 2014, 2013 and 2012 AVP (2.4l) : 1,000 lbs.
  • 2015 AVP (3.6l) : 1,500-2,500 lbs.
  • 2011 Express (2.4l) : 1,000 lbs.
  • 2011 Mainstreet, Crew and Lux (3.6l) : 1,500-2,500 lbs.

The Number Of People In The Vehicle: Another major factor that affected the ratings for these CUVs was how many passengers you were carrying in the vehicle. This seemed to affect the capacity quite a bit.

In fact, I noticed that 1,000 pounds (or more in some cases) was the “average”  difference between having one to two people in the car and six or seven people in the car.

Overall Tow Capacity: When you look at the models that were made from 2009 to 2020 you'll see that the overall capacity didn't really range all that much and stayed pretty consistent over the years.

The 2020-2009 Dodge Journey had a towing capacity range of 1,000-3,500 lbs., depending on the model year, the engine equipped, how many people you had riding in the vehicle with you and whether you had the trailer tow prep package installed on the vehicle.

Remember to always read through the owner's manuals completely before you tow anything, as there might be additional information that I did not post in this article that may be helpful to you.

In this post you might see one tow chart for many different model years and this is because the chart is exactly the same or very similar (with minor discrepancies) but the information was close enough to only post that one chart that will apply to all model years listed.

2020 Models:

The 2020 Journey had a towing capacity of up to 1,000 pounds, but it included five people in the vehicle and any luggage and cargo they had, which was a predetermined weight for each person, I assume.

Usually the assumed weight of each passenger is around 150 pounds, so if that was the case in this example, then 5 people in the vehicle would equate to 750 pounds of total weight, plus the weight of additional luggage for each passenger, whic is usually around 20-30 pounds per person.

I don't think you can get more capacity out of the vehicle by having fewer than five people either and I would assume that the rating would still be the same if only 1 or 2 people were in the vehicle.

2020 Dodge Journey Towing Chart

2011-2019 Models:

Dodge Journeys made from 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 had a towing capacity of 1,000-2,500 pounds, depending on which engine you had equipped and how many people were in the vehicle.

If you look at the chart below you can see that the 2.4L engine had the lowest rating in the chart of 1,000 lbs., which includes up to five passengers in the vehicle with additional cargo weight included in that capacity.

The 3.6L engine had a tow capacity that ranged from 1,500 lbs. and went all the way up to 2,500 lbs. and the number of people in the vehicle was the determining factor in the weight range numbers.

2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012 and 2011 Dodge Journey Towing Chart

2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012 and 2011 Charts

2010 Models:

The 2010 models had their own unique table, mainly due to the fact that they had two different engine configurations: the 2.4L engine and the 3.5L engine.

The towing capacity for the 2010 Journey ranged from 1,000-3,500 lbs., depending on the engine equipped and if you had the 3.5L engine, whether you had a trailer tow prep package installed.

As you can see from the 2010 tow chart below, the 2.4L engine had the lowest capacity rating, coming in right at 1,000 pounds and the 3.5L engine (without the trailer tow prep package) had a range of 1,000 pounds to 2,000 pounds.

If you had the 3.5L engine with the trailer tow prep package installed then the weight limits were much higher, ranging from 2,500 pounds, going all the way up to 3,500 pounds, which is nearly double the overall capacity.

2010 Dodge Journey Towing Chart 2

2009 Models:

The 2009 models had three different engine configurations to choose from: the 2.4 liter engine, the 2.7 liter engine and the 3.5 liter engine, which made the table a little bit harder to understand than the other model years we looked at already.

The towing capacity for the 2009 Dodge Journey's ranged from 1,000 lbs. - 3,500 lbs., depending on the engine you had equipped, how many people were in the vehicle and whether or not your vehicle had a trailer tow prep package installed.

If you look at the chart below you'll notice that without the trailer tow prep package installed AND no matter which engine you had equipped, the trailer weight ratings is significantly decreased, ranging from 1,000 lbs. and only going up to 2,000 pounds.

In contrast, if you compare those specs with the specs of the 2.7L engine and 3.5L engine with a trailer tow prep package equipped then you can see the range is a lot higher, starting at 1,000 lbs. and going all the way up to 3,500 lbs., dependent upon how many people you had in the vehicle.

What You Need to Know About Your Vehicle

Like I stated earlier, you didn't need to know a whole lot about your vehicle in order to get your maximum trailer weight rating. In fact, you just needed to know the model year of your vehicle, the engine you had equipped, how many people were riding in the vehicle, more specifically their weight and if you had the trailer package installed.

The model year should be pretty easy to find, so the other three variables are what most people are going to need to focus on and figure out. On a side note, if you do not know the model year of your vehicle, you could always use the VIN and get it that way. I will explain this in more detail in the following sections.

What Engine Do I Have?

The engine that you had equipped in your vehicle from the factory was definitely the most important detail about your vehicle when it came to getting an accurate trailer weight rating, as I have probably overstated in this article way too much already!

I would bet that most people can pop the hood of their vehicle, look inside the engine Bay and identify what engine they are looking at, but there are some people out there that probably are not confident in doing this. There is another way to identify the engine of your vehicle and that would be to plug in the VIN of your vehicle into an online VIN decoder and that should tell you what engine you have equipped.

These decoders will also tell you a whole bunch of other helpful information about your vehicle and will even help you figure out what model year it is, if you need that information as well.

The Weight of You and Your Occupants

If we look at some of the charts, we can see that dodge specifies a specific number of people in the vehicle and the maximum trailer weight ratings will change according to how many people are in the vehicle.

In some cases, this can be one to two people, three to four people, five to six people or seven people and then they specify specific ratings depending on the number of occupants in the vehicle. One thing I wanted to point out is that it's not really the number of occupants, it is how much each of your occupants weigh.

You can't have five people that weigh over 300 pounds in the vehicle because it would be too much weight than what the assumed amount of weight was. I think dodge could have done a much better job with this metric and it is basically just something I know because of all the research I do when it comes to vehicles, their weights and other information that most people overlook.

I was not able to find a definitive answer on what the assumed weight of each passenger is but from my experience, most other manufacturers use a 150 pound rating for each person in the vehicle and I assume it would be very close to what dodge assumes as well.

Do I Have A Trailer Tow Prep Package Installed?

When researching the trailer tow prep package for these CUVs, I wasn't able to come across any definitive articles or documents on Dodge's website. At this point, if you're curious whether your Journey has a tow package installed, then I would recommend taking it to a dealership to see if they can check for you, as there are no indicators I found that would allow you to check yourself.

If this changes in the future, I will be sure to update this article to make everything as easy as possible.

Resources I Used For This Article:

I gathered all of my information from the owner's manuals that I found on the Dodge website and I posted the links for the specific model years below just in case anybody wants to do a little bit more in-depth research into their specific model or read up on some of the other very helpful tow related information that is included in the owner's manuals.

Dodge Journey Towing Capacity (2009 to 2020)

The Dodge Journey was introduced into Dodge’s lineup as a mid-size crossover SUV in 2009 and was made through 2020. Dodge vehicles are known for their reliability and for having the features consumers expect from today’s SUVs, including towing. But what is the towing capacity of a Dodge Journey?

The Dodge Journey has a towing capacity of 1,000 lbs to 3,500 lbs depending on the model year, engine, and whether or not the Trailer Tow Prep package was installed.

There’s a bit more to know about Dodge Journey towing capabilities which we’ll cover in today’s guide.

Dodge Journey Braked Vs. Unbraked Towing Capacity

All vehicles have different towing capacities based on whether or not you’re towing a trailer that has trailer brakes installed.

Trailer brakes allow the trailer to stop faster than if only the vehicle is using its brakes, allowing the vehicle to tow more weight, so braked towing capacity will always be higher than unbraked towing capacity.

Dodge Journey Braked Towing Capacity: 1,000 lbs.

Dodge Journey Unbraked Towing Capacity: 1,000 lbs.

Dodge Journey Towing Capacity Factors

There are a few factors that affect the Dodge Journey tow capacity.

The Journey’s tow capability varied a bit by year and generation.

Some early years had a max towing capability of 3,500 pounds, while the final year (2020) could  only pull 1,000 pounds.

Recent model years of the Journey have a tow rating of 2,000 pounds.

For some years of the Journey, you could tow up to 1,000 more pounds just by having a 3.6L engine instead of a 2.4L engine.

Towing Package

For earlier years of the Dodge Journey, you could only reach the max tow rating of 3,500 pounds by having the Trailer Tow Prep package installed.

Dodge Journey Engine Specs

There is one engine option for the most recent generation Dodge Journey.

Dodge Journey 2.4L 4-Cylinder Gas Engine

This engine produces 172 horsepower and 165 lb.-ft of torque.

Can You Install A Trailer Hitch On a Dodge Journey?

rear view of dodge journey

If you plan on towing anything with your Dodge Journey, you’ll need a tow hitch and wiring harness.

Depending on what you’re towing, you’re going to need a ball mount (aka a trailer ball hitch) so you can attach items for towing.

Make sure to get the right trailer ball size that matches your hitch and trailer.

Dodge Journey Tow Hitch

Trailer hitches come in different hitch classes , which are rated for different vehicle sizes and weight limits.

The Dodge Journey uses a Class 2 hitch.

  • EASY TO INSTALL. To install the trailer hitch ball mount on your vehicle, simply insert the shank into your vehicle's 1-1/4-inch hitch receiver. The rounded shank makes installation easy

Dodge Journey Trailer Hitch Installation

If you’re considering having a tow hitch added to your Journey, expect to pay between $100 and $200 to have a tow package professionally installed (excluding the cost of the tow hitch and wiring harness).

If you’re handy and looking to save money, you can install the trailer hitch and wiring harness yourself.

Always follow the manufacturer’s directions and use proper safety precautions.

Here’s a great video walkthrough on a Dodge Journey trailer hitch installation:

Hitch Receiver Vs Rear Step Bumper Towing

Some vehicles allow for bumper towing, which means you can mount a tow hitch ball directly on the bumper instead of installing a tow hitch to the vehicle’s frame.

Can I Bumper Tow With a Dodge Journey?

The Dodge Journey does not allow for bumper towing, so you’ll need to use a frame mounted hitch.

How Do I Know If My Dodge Journey Has A Tow Package?

dodge journey towing an atv trailer

You can start by looking under the rear bumper of your Journey to see if you notice a trailer hitch or trailer ball.

That will give you a good indication of if you have a tow hitch already installed on your Journey.

Another way to research this is by checking the paperwork that came with your vehicle or taking it to a local dealer to see what’s installed.

Make sure to have your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) handy if you call the dealer so they can look up the exact specs and whether or not your vehicle has any towing packages or features installed on it.

First things first, you'll want to check out the owner's manual for your ride. It'll probably have a section that tells you the manufacturer's recommended maximum towing weight for the Dodge Journey. It's always a good idea to follow their guidelines, since they've done all the testing and whatnot.

Another place to look is a manufacturer's towing guide. These are usually available on the manufacturer's website or at a dealership, and they'll have more in-depth info on the towing capacity of different Dodge models.

Size matters when it comes to towing, so it's worth taking a look at your Journey's engine size and transmission type. A bigger engine and a heavy-duty transmission will usually be able to handle a heavier load. And don't forget about the weight of the load itself – the combined weight of your Journey and the stuff you're hauling shouldn't exceed its maximum tow capacity.

It's also a good idea to check out the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of your Journey. This is the maximum weight that it's designed to carry, including the weight of the vehicle itself, any passengers, and any cargo. You can find the GVWR in the owner's manual or on a label on the inside of the driver's side door.

One more thing to consider is the tongue weight – that's the weight that's applied to the hitch when you're towing a trailer. Make sure the tongue weight is within the recommended range for your Journey to ensure proper weight distribution and stability. You can calculate the tongue weight by weighing the trailer with the load on it at a weigh station or with a special tongue weight scale.

Last but not least, take a look at the hitch rating on your Journey. This is the maximum weight that the hitch is designed to handle. Make sure the hitch rating is equal to or higher than the combined weight of the trailer and the load.

So there you have it – those are the main things to consider when it comes to determining the tow capacity of your Dodge Journey. Better to be safe than sorry, so if you're in doubt, it's probably a good idea to go with a vehicle that has a higher tow capacity than you think you'll need. That way you'll have a little extra wiggle room in case you end up hauling more weight than you expected.

All of this data is available on this site, so you can always check back to see if we've added more info on the Dodge Journey you're interested in.

Important: we provide the data for education purposes only, and we're not responsible for any towing accidents that may occur. Always follow the manufacturer's guidelines and use common sense when towing.

You can find 82 different trims/engines for the Dodge Journey and their corresponding recommended towing capacity.

The years available stretch from 2009 through to 2020 and to view the towing capacity you just click to expand.

The Dodge Journey is a mid-size crossover SUV that has been produced by Dodge under the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, now Stellantis, between 2009 and 2020 . There was only a single generation during this time.

It shared the same platform, the JC Platform, with both the Dodge Avenger and short-wheelbase Dodge Caravan . This gave it the name Dodge JC in certain markets. It was also sold as the Fiat Freemont.

External competition came from the likes of the Ford Escape , Nissan Rogue , and Chevrolet Equinox .

Gasoline engines for the Dodge Journey range from a 2.4-liter World inline-4 to a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6.

Diesel configurations were limited to only two turbocharged 2-liter inline-4s. Dodge used both Volkswagen and Multijet II diesel engines. The Fiat Multijet II engines were used in models sold as a Freemont.

Front-wheel and four-wheel drive were both offered, depending on the trim level chosen.

Transmission options included 4-speed and 6-speed Ultradrive automatics, as well as several manual transmissions ranging from 5-speed to 6-speed.

Trim levels consisted of the typical Dodge offerings. These are the base SE level, the mid-tier SXT, and the top-end R/T, standing from Race/Track.

It received a single facelift during its run on the market. This came in 2011 and included an updated interior, grille, and some other minor features.

The SE and SXT trim levels were replaced by the new Express and Mainstreet levels with this update. The Crew and Lux trims were added as well during this period.

The Dodge Journey was later succeeded by the Dodge Durango in 2020.

In Transit: Notes from the Underground

Jun 06 2018.

Spend some time in one of Moscow’s finest museums.

Subterranean commuting might not be anyone’s idea of a good time, but even in a city packing the war-games treasures and priceless bejeweled eggs of the Kremlin Armoury and the colossal Soviet pavilions of the VDNKh , the Metro holds up as one of Moscow’s finest museums. Just avoid rush hour.

The Metro is stunning and provides an unrivaled insight into the city’s psyche, past and present, but it also happens to be the best way to get around. Moscow has Uber, and the Russian version called Yandex Taxi , but also some nasty traffic. Metro trains come around every 90 seconds or so, at a more than 99 percent on-time rate. It’s also reasonably priced, with a single ride at 55 cents (and cheaper in bulk). From history to tickets to rules — official and not — here’s what you need to know to get started.

A Brief Introduction Buying Tickets Know Before You Go (Down) Rules An Easy Tour

A Brief Introduction

Moscow’s Metro was a long time coming. Plans for rapid transit to relieve the city’s beleaguered tram system date back to the Imperial era, but a couple of wars and a revolution held up its development. Stalin revived it as part of his grand plan to modernize the Soviet Union in the 1920s and 30s. The first lines and tunnels were constructed with help from engineers from the London Underground, although Stalin’s secret police decided that they had learned too much about Moscow’s layout and had them arrested on espionage charges and deported.

The beauty of its stations (if not its trains) is well-documented, and certainly no accident. In its illustrious first phases and particularly after the Second World War, the greatest architects of Soviet era were recruited to create gleaming temples celebrating the Revolution, the USSR, and the war triumph. No two stations are exactly alike, and each of the classic showpieces has a theme. There are world-famous shrines to Futurist architecture, a celebration of electricity, tributes to individuals and regions of the former Soviet Union. Each marble slab, mosaic tile, or light fixture was placed with intent, all in service to a station’s aesthetic; each element, f rom the smallest brass ear of corn to a large blood-spattered sword on a World War II mural, is an essential part of the whole.

2009 dodge journey towing capacity

The Metro is a monument to the Soviet propaganda project it was intended to be when it opened in 1935 with the slogan “Building a Palace for the People”. It brought the grand interiors of Imperial Russia to ordinary Muscovites, celebrated the Soviet Union’s past achievements while promising its citizens a bright Soviet future, and of course, it was a show-piece for the world to witness the might and sophistication of life in the Soviet Union.

It may be a museum, but it’s no relic. U p to nine million people use it daily, more than the London Underground and New York Subway combined. (Along with, at one time, about 20 stray dogs that learned to commute on the Metro.)

In its 80+ year history, the Metro has expanded in phases and fits and starts, in step with the fortunes of Moscow and Russia. Now, partly in preparation for the World Cup 2018, it’s also modernizing. New trains allow passengers to walk the entire length of the train without having to change carriages. The system is becoming more visitor-friendly. (There are helpful stickers on the floor marking out the best selfie spots .) But there’s a price to modernity: it’s phasing out one of its beloved institutions, the escalator attendants. Often they are middle-aged or elderly women—“ escalator grandmas ” in news accounts—who have held the post for decades, sitting in their tiny kiosks, scolding commuters for bad escalator etiquette or even bad posture, or telling jokes . They are slated to be replaced, when at all, by members of the escalator maintenance staff.

For all its achievements, the Metro lags behind Moscow’s above-ground growth, as Russia’s capital sprawls ever outwards, generating some of the world’s worst traffic jams . But since 2011, the Metro has been in the middle of an ambitious and long-overdue enlargement; 60 new stations are opening by 2020. If all goes to plan, the 2011-2020 period will have brought 125 miles of new tracks and over 100 new stations — a 40 percent increase — the fastest and largest expansion phase in any period in the Metro’s history.

Buying Tickets

  • Ticket machines have a button to switch to English.
  • You can buy specific numbers of rides: 1, 2, 5, 11, 20, or 60. Hold up fingers to show how many rides you want to buy.
  • There is also a 90-minute ticket , which gets you 1 trip on the metro plus an unlimited number of transfers on other transport (bus, tram, etc) within 90 minutes.
  • Or, you can buy day tickets with unlimited rides: one day (218₽/ US$4), three days (415₽/US$7) or seven days (830₽/US$15). Check the rates here to stay up-to-date.
  • If you’re going to be using the Metro regularly over a few days, it’s worth getting a Troika card , a contactless, refillable card you can use on all public transport. Using the Metro is cheaper with one of these: a single ride is 36₽, not 55₽. Buy them and refill them in the Metro stations, and they’re valid for 5 years, so you can keep it for next time. Or, if you have a lot of cash left on it when you leave, you can get it refunded at the Metro Service Centers at Ulitsa 1905 Goda, 25 or at Staraya Basmannaya 20, Building 1.
  • You can also buy silicone bracelets and keychains with built-in transport chips that you can use as a Troika card. (A Moscow Metro Fitbit!) So far, you can only get these at the Pushkinskaya metro station Live Helpdesk and souvenir shops in the Mayakovskaya and Trubnaya metro stations. The fare is the same as for the Troika card.
  • You can also use Apple Pay and Samsung Pay.

Rules, spoken and unspoken

No smoking, no drinking, no filming, no littering. Photography is allowed, although it used to be banned.

Stand to the right on the escalator. Break this rule and you risk the wrath of the legendary escalator attendants. (No shenanigans on the escalators in general.)

Get out of the way. Find an empty corner to hide in when you get off a train and need to stare at your phone. Watch out getting out of the train in general; when your train doors open, people tend to appear from nowhere or from behind ornate marble columns, walking full-speed.

Always offer your seat to elderly ladies (what are you, a monster?).

An Easy Tour

This is no Metro Marathon ( 199 stations in 20 hours ). It’s an easy tour, taking in most—though not all—of the notable stations, the bulk of it going clockwise along the Circle line, with a couple of short detours. These stations are within minutes of one another, and the whole tour should take about 1-2 hours.

Start at Mayakovskaya Metro station , at the corner of Tverskaya and Garden Ring,  Triumfalnaya Square, Moskva, Russia, 125047.

1. Mayakovskaya.  Named for Russian Futurist Movement poet Vladimir Mayakovsky and an attempt to bring to life the future he imagined in his poems. (The Futurist Movement, natch, was all about a rejecting the past and celebrating all things speed, industry, modern machines, youth, modernity.) The result: an Art Deco masterpiece that won the National Grand Prix for architecture at the New York World’s Fair in 1939. It’s all smooth, rounded shine and light, and gentle arches supported by columns of dark pink marble and stainless aircraft steel. Each of its 34 ceiling niches has a mosaic. During World War II, the station was used as an air-raid shelter and, at one point, a bunker for Stalin. He gave a subdued but rousing speech here in Nov. 6, 1941 as the Nazis bombed the city above.

Take the 3/Green line one station to:

2. Belorusskaya. Opened in 1952, named after the connected Belarussky Rail Terminal, which runs trains between Moscow and Belarus. This is a light marble affair with a white, cake-like ceiling, lined with Belorussian patterns and 12 Florentine ceiling mosaics depicting life in Belarussia when it was built.

Transfer onto the 1/Brown line. Then, one stop (clockwise) t o:

3. Novoslobodskaya.  This station was designed around the stained-glass panels, which were made in Latvia, because Alexey Dushkin, the Soviet starchitect who dreamed it up (and also designed Mayakovskaya station) couldn’t find the glass and craft locally. The stained glass is the same used for Riga’s Cathedral, and the panels feature plants, flowers, members of the Soviet intelligentsia (musician, artist, architect) and geometric shapes.

2009 dodge journey towing capacity

Go two stops east on the 1/Circle line to:

4. Komsomolskaya. Named after the Komsomol, or the Young Communist League, this might just be peak Stalin Metro style. Underneath the hub for three regional railways, it was intended to be a grand gateway to Moscow and is today its busiest station. It has chandeliers; a yellow ceiling with Baroque embellishments; and in the main hall, a colossal red star overlaid on golden, shimmering tiles. Designer Alexey Shchusev designed it as an homage to the speech Stalin gave at Red Square on Nov. 7, 1941, in which he invoked Russia’s illustrious military leaders as a pep talk to Soviet soldiers through the first catastrophic year of the war.   The station’s eight large mosaics are of the leaders referenced in the speech, such as Alexander Nevsky, a 13th-century prince and military commander who bested German and Swedish invading armies.

One more stop clockwise to Kurskaya station,  and change onto the 3/Blue  line, and go one stop to:

5. Baumanskaya.   Opened in 1944. Named for the Bolshevik Revolutionary Nikolai Bauman , whose monument and namesake district are aboveground here. Though he seemed like a nasty piece of work (he apparently once publicly mocked a woman he had impregnated, who later hung herself), he became a Revolutionary martyr when he was killed in 1905 in a skirmish with a monarchist, who hit him on the head with part of a steel pipe. The station is in Art Deco style with atmospherically dim lighting, and a series of bronze sculptures of soldiers and homefront heroes during the War. At one end, there is a large mosaic portrait of Lenin.

2009 dodge journey towing capacity

Stay on that train direction one more east to:

6. Elektrozavodskaya. As you may have guessed from the name, this station is the Metro’s tribute to all thing electrical, built in 1944 and named after a nearby lightbulb factory. It has marble bas-relief sculptures of important figures in electrical engineering, and others illustrating the Soviet Union’s war-time struggles at home. The ceiling’s recurring rows of circular lamps give the station’s main tunnel a comforting glow, and a pleasing visual effect.

2009 dodge journey towing capacity

Double back two stops to Kurskaya station , and change back to the 1/Circle line. Sit tight for six stations to:

7. Kiyevskaya. This was the last station on the Circle line to be built, in 1954, completed under Nikita Khrushchev’ s guidance, as a tribute to his homeland, Ukraine. Its three large station halls feature images celebrating Ukraine’s contributions to the Soviet Union and Russo-Ukrainian unity, depicting musicians, textile-working, soldiers, farmers. (One hall has frescoes, one mosaics, and the third murals.) Shortly after it was completed, Khrushchev condemned the architectural excesses and unnecessary luxury of the Stalin era, which ushered in an epoch of more austere Metro stations. According to the legend at least, he timed the policy in part to ensure no Metro station built after could outshine Kiyevskaya.

2009 dodge journey towing capacity

Change to the 3/Blue line and go one stop west.

8. Park Pobedy. This is the deepest station on the Metro, with one of the world’s longest escalators, at 413 feet. If you stand still, the escalator ride to the surface takes about three minutes .) Opened in 2003 at Victory Park, the station celebrates two of Russia’s great military victories. Each end has a mural by Georgian artist Zurab Tsereteli, who also designed the “ Good Defeats Evil ” statue at the UN headquarters in New York. One mural depicts the Russian generals’ victory over the French in 1812 and the other, the German surrender of 1945. The latter is particularly striking; equal parts dramatic, triumphant, and gruesome. To the side, Red Army soldiers trample Nazi flags, and if you look closely there’s some blood spatter among the detail. Still, the biggest impressions here are the marble shine of the chessboard floor pattern and the pleasingly geometric effect if you view from one end to the other.

2009 dodge journey towing capacity

Keep going one more stop west to:

9. Slavyansky Bulvar.  One of the Metro’s youngest stations, it opened in 2008. With far higher ceilings than many other stations—which tend to have covered central tunnels on the platforms—it has an “open-air” feel (or as close to it as you can get, one hundred feet under). It’s an homage to French architect Hector Guimard, he of the Art Nouveau entrances for the Paris M é tro, and that’s precisely what this looks like: A Moscow homage to the Paris M é tro, with an additional forest theme. A Cyrillic twist on Guimard’s Metro-style lettering over the benches, furnished with t rees and branch motifs, including creeping vines as towering lamp-posts.

2009 dodge journey towing capacity

Stay on the 3/Blue line and double back four stations to:

10. Arbatskaya. Its first iteration, Arbatskaya-Smolenskaya station, was damaged by German bombs in 1941. It was rebuilt in 1953, and designed to double as a bomb shelter in the event of nuclear war, although unusually for stations built in the post-war phase, this one doesn’t have a war theme. It may also be one of the system’s most elegant: Baroque, but toned down a little, with red marble floors and white ceilings with gilded bronze c handeliers.

2009 dodge journey towing capacity

Jump back on the 3/Blue line  in the same direction and take it one more stop:

11. Ploshchad Revolyutsii (Revolution Square). Opened in 1938, and serving Red Square and the Kremlin . Its renowned central hall has marble columns flanked by 76 bronze statues of Soviet heroes: soldiers, students, farmers, athletes, writers, parents. Some of these statues’ appendages have a yellow sheen from decades of Moscow’s commuters rubbing them for good luck. Among the most popular for a superstitious walk-by rub: the snout of a frontier guard’s dog, a soldier’s gun (where the touch of millions of human hands have tapered the gun barrel into a fine, pointy blade), a baby’s foot, and a woman’s knee. (A brass rooster also sports the telltale gold sheen, though I am told that rubbing the rooster is thought to bring bad luck. )

Now take the escalator up, and get some fresh air.

10 Used Dodge Models That Can Stand The Test Of Time

Dodge has a polarizing relationship regarding reliability for their creations, forcing many to look away from the vast back catalog of used Dodge cars. However, being a part of the Chrysler umbrella has perks, such as the company's decade partnership with Daimler-Benz and continuing bonds with the cross-continent Stellantis group. As a result, a used Dodge car can easily be the product of "badge engineering," if not an iconic model of their own . Knowing today's best-selling Dodge Challenger shares an evolved platform with a 2002 Mercedes-Benz E-Class begins to put the industry into perspective.

The best-selling muscle car of 2022, the Dodge Challenger, is also the cheapest Dodge car you can buy today, with prices starting at $30,545. Be that as it may, let's use statistics from J.D. Power and Cars.com to determine the most reliable used Dodge cars today.

2020 Dodge Charger – 89/100

As far as used Dodge cars go, the 2020 Dodge Charger ticks every box. Despite its initial outlay , a four-door sedan loaded with a slew of beefy Hemi V8 engines, what’s not to love? Furthermore, Dodge’s 2020 efforts on their family-friendly muscle car scored 89/100 for reliability as the seventh-gen Dodge Charger entered its ninth year of production. Dodge sold 77,426 Charger models in 2020 despite the Covid-19 Pandemic.

With a recent $99 million investment for smaller power plants from the company's Stellantis overlords, the earth-shattering 717 hp 6.2-liter Hemi aboard the 2020 Dodge Charger SRT looks set to retire beyond 2023. So, despite the Charger's ropey maintenance costs, this 2020 used Dodge model is your best bet for a reliable muscle car experience.

2016 Dodge Challenger – 86/100

One of the best-selling cars in its class for 2022 , more specifically, the best-selling muscle car of 2022, is the Dodge Challenger. Sadly, the 2022 car costs an average of $130,000, whereas a 2016 car featuring the same ludicrous SRT Hellcat package costs an average of $56,673! To further emphasize your parent's favorite phrase, “value for money!” The 2016 variant of the Dodge Challenger scores a trusty 86/100 for quality and reliability, cementing the used Dodge model among the great, indestructible used muscle cars on the market today.

In fact, despite relatively high maintenance costs for the Dodge brand as a whole, the 2023 Dodge Challenger and Charger are the company’s most cost-effective models regarding maintenance and repairs over 10 years, according to CarEdge.

2007 Dodge Dakota – 86/100

The Dodge Dakota was the first midsize production truck to draw power from a V8 power plant, the rather dull albeit highly dependable 4.7-liter Magnum V8. Dodge unleashed the Dakota compact pickup a touch larger than the Ford Ranger and Chevrolet S-10 competition, featuring a rigid body-on-frame chassis construction just like its larger Dodge Ram cousins. However, don’t be fooled by its small size: this used Dodge has a respectable 6,850 lb towing capacity to partner with that grunting V8 block.

2007 saw the Dodge Dakota score 86/100 for quality and reliability, marking a sweet spot for the used Dodge today. Although Dodge pulled the plug on the wee truck in 2011, Ford's exploits with the Maverick look to have forced the hand of Stellantis for a 2024 return !

2017 Dodge Durango – 83/100

A used Dodge Durango strikes most automotive fraternities as an expensive threat. However, the 2017 model year poses a silver lining across the SUV's lengthy lifespan, scoring a respectable 83/100 for quality and reliability. Furthermore, Consumer Reports score the 2017 model year an incredible 4.7/5 for reliability as Dodge continues to manufacture their Mercedes-Benz-inspired SUV.

Customers today are met with reliable used cars packing a 5.7-liter Hemi. Even better, the Dodge branded brute costs an average of $19,700!

2008 Dodge Ram 1500 – 83/100

The now-independent Ram manufactures the most expensive trucks regarding maintenance and repairs. However, it was not always this way under the keen eye of Dodge. The 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 is the perfect example, scoring a modest 83/100 for quality and reliability and backed up by a 4.4/5 rating according to existing customers.

2008 saw the tail end of the third-generation truck, and Dodge was not shy with engine options. Power plants such as the 5.7-liter Hemi and the iconic 6.7-liter turbocharged diesel from Cummins made their way to the plucky used Dodge as the little hauler featured a respectable 8,750 lb towing capacity.

2007 Dodge Ram 2500 – 81/100

Dodge Ram trucks will soon cost a fortune on the used car market due to the unique nature of the marque separation. If you're looking to jump the gun and a used Dodge 1500 lacks the pulling power, a 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 has you covered with a far superior 13,050 lb towing capacity emanating from that glorious 5.7-liter Hemi V8.

A used 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 costs an average of $14,137 today and scores a respectable 81/100 quality and reliability rating with J.D. Power.

2012 Dodge Caliber – 80/100

A used Dodge Caliber hatchback from 2012 can take on the most reliable cars from popular automotive brands . Despite its dull nature, the Caliber silenced the polarizing PT Cruiser in 2007, and by 2012, Consumer Reports rated the used Dodge 4.4/5 for reliability, thanks to its simplistic nature. Chrysler utilized many four-pot engines for the Caliber from their World Gasoline Engine partnerships.

Furthermore, a used Dodge Caliber arrives on the Chrysler PM/MK platform inherited from the Mitsubishi GS Platform, you know, the one that the iconic Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution rides on. And you thought it was boring!

2014 Dodge Journey – 79/100

Some cars crash through the gate with an outstanding reputation for dependability. However, others fall flat on their face due to a poor first impression. The Dodge Journey is a great example. Scarred by its initial unreliable nature on release in 2008/09, Dodge went on a “Journey” with the model as by 2014, the Dodge Journey sports a 4.2/5 reliability rank from its very own consumers, leading to a reliable used Dodge remaining in today's market.

Dodge equipped their 2009-2020 crossover SUV with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine shared across the Hyundai and Mitsubishi range, even sharing one of Volkswagen's incredibly durable 2.0-liter TDI diesel engines with the roomy crossover to ensure a trouble-free experience.

2009 Dodge Avenger – 79/100

Some classic American cars refuse to quit . The Dodge Avenger is by no means a classic, but it’s undoubtedly American, as Dodge chose to market the vehicle as The “Superhero Vehicle For The Every Man.” Dodge unleashed their Avenger in 2007 alongside the budding Journey model. Like the Journey, Dodge fitted several inline-four engines, but also included a trio of V6 options too.

Despite Chrysler's rocky relationship with the V6 engine configuration, the 2009 Avenger represents a reliable used Dodge on today's market, featuring a 79/100 quality and reliability rating for the company’s in house superhero.

1994 Dodge Ram – 4.7/5

Dodge is primarily known for their best-selling classic muscle cars. However, between 1981 and 2010, the Chrysler-owned company pioneered the pickup truck market. The second-generation Dodge Ram Pickup truck began life in 1994, and the used Dodge truck represents far more than its glistening 4.7/5 consumer reliability rating.

The "Louisville Slugger" is the first truck to arrive with a V10 engine, the tubby 8.0-liter Magnum developing 300 hp. Despite the grunty V10, Dodge evolved the reputation of the pickup truck from a typical workhorse into a livable daily cruiser by equipping the second-gen Dodge Ram with convenient storage and a luxurious interior. Today's $100,000+ trucks have the second-generation Ram to thank for their abundant nature.
