Walking at the Garden of the Gods is a captivating journey into a rugged, Martian-like landscape. This surreal terrain, sculpted by nature's forces, showcases vivid red and orange hues contrasted against the blue sky. Overall rating

The trip was excellent. Parking at the Maalea harbor dock is a pain. In the future tell your clients to get the ParkWhiz app on their phone You can pay for close up parking on this app. The code reader at the dock is cr ... appy. Our Lanai on site guide, Russ was a wealth of information and had as much fun with us and the other couple as we did with him and the tour. A nice day was had by all.

Russ is an excellent guide, knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating.

Wonderful Day in Lanai

A fantastic day trip providing lots of background on the island and an opportunity to view most of it. Russ is a great tour guide and made certain we had a great time. He also provided some recommendations for our aftern ... oon at the beach. I absolutely recommend this tour to anyone looking to get the most out of a day trip to Lanai.

Full Day Needles District 4x4 Tour

This full day Needles 4x4 Tour goes to a region of Canyonlands National Park  which is, perhaps, one of the park's best-kept secrets. You will learn about the mystery surrounding the ancient Anasazi Pueblo people who inexplicably disappeared in approximately 1250 AD.

As you walk to the main points of interest you will see the amazing remnants of a long-gone culture, along with naturally sculpted arches and windows carved out of the rock over millions of years. Your adventure begins with a scenic journey by air-conditioned 4x4 into Canyonlands National Park, stopping en route to see a giant arch alongside the road, so big that daredevil pilots have flown airplanes through it.

Once in the park, the first part of your trip takes you past some fascinating historic sites such as the Home of Truth, a spiritual commune founded by pioneer Marie Ogden. You will also stop at Newspaper Rock, a large rock panel literally filled with ancient American Indian and cowboy inscriptions. Continuing on the scenic highway along Indian Creek, you will pass Dugout Ranch, a modern-day, ecologically sensitive cowboy operation. You will then begin your expedition down Salt Creek, where your guide will expertly negotiate the sandy creek bottom and twisting wash.

A trip up Horse Canyon takes you to two natural stone arches, Castle Arch and Paul Bunyan's Potty. Take a walk to more ancient Anasazi Indian rock art and several building ruins. Here you can participate in a couple of easy walks before stopping for a delicious lunch.

Finally, continue on to Peek-A-Boo Springs where you travel on foot to view more ancient petroglyphs and pictographs.

Tour Overview

Cruise off the beaten path by UTV (utility terrain vehicle) to explore the Hell’s Revenge Trail on a 2.5 – 3.0 hour off-road adventure from Moab. With an experienced guide leading the way, you’ll navigate a Kawasaki Teryx 4 — a 4×4 vehicle equipped for traversing sandstone domes and slickrock ledges. The Hell’s Revenge Trail combines the thrill of steep climbs and descents with views of La Sal Mountains, Abyss Canyon, and the mighty Colorado River. Travel in a small group of up to four vehicles with a maximum of four people per vehicle.

What You Can Expect

  • Meet your small group at your chosen departure time and hop into your 4-seater Kawasaki Teryx 4. After a safety briefing, slip behind the wheel (21 yrs. of age or older and valid drivers license) or take one of the passenger seats. Within 15 minutes of Moab, you are at the Hell’s Revenge Trail, full of steep ridges and roller-coaster terrain. Follow your experienced guide along a thrilling route that takes you crawling up a rock incline called the Devil’s Backbone. Hold on as your 4×4 jostles along the slickrock, formed from Navajo sandstone, before you descend into a low point in the narrow canyon, named Lake Michigan for the water that pools from rainfall.
  • Next, make a brief stop at the fossilized dinosaur tracks near Lion’s Back before you proceed to Echo Canyon, also known as Abyss Canyon. Here, take in the views of towering sandstone cliffs above an oasis of cottonwood and willow trees.
  • Get a look at Abyss Canyon before continuing off the beaten path to an overlook for dramatic views of the mighty Colorado River. On your way back to Moab, soak up more stunning vistas of the La Sal Mountains.

Moab Hummer Tours Reviews

Had a phenomenal hummer tour in moab with shad., hummer tours are "fun for everyone".

Hummers in Moab

Humvees and Slickrock

1983 is the year the "Humvee", or "High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles" were put into production - and 9 years later released to the public as "The Hummer". During that time the economy of Moab, Utah transitioned from busted uranium mining to bustling recreational tourism. You might say it was a different kind of rock that attracted the new crowd: Slickrock.

Slickrock, slippery to a horse's hooves, was found to be exceptionally "grippy" for rubber tires. First it was the "Fat Tires" of motorbikes & new-fangled mountain bikes, then the Hummer, and now all sorts of 4-wheeled "rock crawlers".

Moab Hummer Tours

Frequently Asked Questions about Moab Hummer Tours

Our hummer safaris do not take place in either of the nearby national parks. Instead, you will be exploring the world-famous “Hell’s Revenge” off-road trail in the nearby Sand Flats Recreation area located just east of downtown Moab.

We highly recommend guests use our restrooms before departing on their hummer tour as there are no toilets available once on the trail.

This tour will include many large slickrock fins and several viewpoints over Moab and the Colorado River. Several of these fins and overlooks may have sudden drop-offs on either side. However, you are not required to exit the vehicle during the tour. If you are comfortable with heights while inside the vehicle, you should be just fine on our Hummer safaris.

Our hummer safaris are best described as slow moving roller coasters. While slow moving, they can still be quite bumpy. We don’t recommend hummer tours to guests with back issues. There will also be several stops to view scenic overlooks during the tour; however, you are not required to exit the vehicle during these stops.

Adventure and joy in 4x4 convoys: Going overland will satisfy your wanderlust

Ensuring healthy years for children with haemophilia, starsilver: power of a proper perspective.

Convoy of Suzuki Jimny cars travelling in Thailand.

Going overland – driving long distances on adventures with parts of the journey on dirt trails plus even a few nights of car-camping – greatly satisfies one’s wanderlust. And when a group of friends goes overland together, two factors are apparent:

1. Everyone loves the driving part, to be in control of the vehicle and negotiate the off-road trails.

2. Everyone has a lot of stuff to bring – outdoor “toys” to play with – so there is not much room in the vehicle for carpooling.

With small 4x4 cars like the Suzuki Jimny, there’s plenty of room in the campsite.

As such, these “overlanders” go in a 4x4 convoy. They travel in a group of 10 four-wheel-drive vehicles or even more, each one having only a lone driver or at most one passenger while the other vehicles are chock-full with gear.

“So although we are driving alone in our cars, we are actually safe because we are in a convoy. One experienced driver in a well-equipped vehicle is always the sweeper, staying in the rear to support any other convoy member who gets in trouble,” said Angus Lai, who recently went on an overland trip to Thailand in a 10-car convoy.

Chow likes camping with a car-roof tent.

Lai is a member of the Malaysia Jimny Club (MJC), which has about 10,000 members on Facebook, so his 10-car convoy to Thailand were all Suzuki Jimny drivers.

First rolled out in 1970, the Suzuki Jimny was meant to be a “mini 4x4” for Japanese farmers to traverse narrow, undulating trails.

A cool picnic under shady trees.

The car has gone through many generations of upgrades to mirror the changing times; its lines are now sleeker, the interior comfort levels have improved since its infancy as a utilitarian 4x4 to the point that it is today a lifestyle vehicle for adventurers.

“We love going outdoors in a small 4x4 like this. It is nimble, agile and light. Narrow trails and small wooden bridges are no problem for us,” said Johnsen Phoon, one of the founding members of MJC.

The Suzuki Jimny weighs about 1.4 tonnes; a full-sized 4x4 pickup truck can weigh close to three tonnes.

 Convoy by the beach.

By the merit of weight alone, this allows such a small 4x4 to cross a muddy trail with ease.

Should it truly get stuck in a rut, its light weight makes it easier to winch the vehicle out of the trap.

Phoon said it was easy to manoeuvre through tight spaces between trees and shrubs, and its tight turning radius makes driving in congested urban settings a breeze.

A fly sheet while car-camping in the open air brings the temperature down by several degrees.

“I love how we can swerve in and fit it into a tight parking spot,” Phoon laughed.

But not everyone is into convoys; entrepreneur Christy Chow from Selangor owns a Suzuki Jimny solely because she loves going camping alone or just with her husband.

She has been doing it for about five years and used to drive a mini hatchback.

The rear door of the Suzuki Jimny can be fitted with a flip-open table for myriad uses.

“It was a little difficult driving steep uphill dirt trails. So I changed to a Jimny and even had it painted pink,” she laughed.

Besides the car, Chow confesses to spending about RM20,000 on her camping gear, including a small fridge with a portable power station.

“We choose managed campsites on hilltops in Selangor, Pahang and Perak.

Suzuki Jimny’s seats can be folded flat to create a bed space for two.

“It will be quite chilly and relaxing at night, though during the day, it can still be hot so we need to bring our large fly sheet to shade our car and some space at the rear to stay cool,” she said.

Chow enjoys using a roof tent atop her Jimny for a good night’s sleep away from creepy crawlies on the ground.

Come next month, a special treat is in store for these Jimny owners: durians will start dropping in orchards in Penang and it will be time for them to look for orchards that will let them drive off-road amidst the trees to feast on freshly-fallen durians.

Three friends on an overland trip to Thailand.

“This is what is special about small 4x4 cars; we can drive into orchards without harming trees and with little damage to the ground because our cars are light.

“We park in clearings, set up our camp chairs and tables, boil coffee and enjoy freshly fallen durians,” said Mah Guo Dong, a Penangite and member of MJC.

If outdoor adventures by car are your cup of tea, you will have the chance to test drive the latest Suzuki Jimny at The Great Outdoor Expo 2024 at Setia City Convention Centre from May 31 to June 2.

Get behind the wheel of a Suzuki Jimny at the expo, experience its nimbleness and responsiveness, and you can visualise the sort of outdoor adventures you can have in this car.

Alps 4x4 adventure holiday tour.

22-31 July 2024

This fabulous tour comprises of an anti-clockwise circuit of the French and Italian Alps, in the outstanding region located between Val d'Isere to the north and Nice to the south. We meander slowly southwards on the French side, and return northward on the Italian side, with each as majestic and spectacular as the other. John Pearson of LRO magazine covered our trip a few years ago, his recognisable 110 features in the photos. This epic adventure is particularly well suited to families with kids, not least because we take lots of leisure time out of the vehicles, immersing ourselves in some of the most striking Alpine splendour. On the July tour, my own family join me (wife, boy 18, girl 15), and they are great at welcoming and integrating the other kids of all ages. We are fortunate to enjoy 2 nights wild camping, all located in pristine wilderness locations. We pass the other nights at the best quality well-appointed campsites, most of which also have their own swimming pool. Route includes 3 National Parks; Parc National de la Vanoise, Parc National Des Ecrins and Parc National Du Mercantour.  Fully catered as always, and also including outdoor adventure activities .

Start  - We meet at a campsite near Lanslebourg in the late afternoon preceding Day 1, to enjoy a welcoming BBQ, followed by the briefing.

Finish  - At a campsite near Sanfront, Italy on the morning following Day 10, where after a farewell breakfast we go on our separate ways.

Included  - Full catering 3 meals per day for the duration of the tour, outdoor adventure activities as detailed in the itinerary, all campsite fees from start to finish, including the meet campsite preceding Day 1.

Prices - per person based on 2 adults @ £1,495pp, additional adult @ 50%, single supplement @ 50% , child U16 @ 50% .

Read more about this tour in our blog post here

Highlights  - Outstanding off-road driving, including sections of Hannibal’s Trail, in the region around Lac du Mont Cenis. Additional spectacular off-roading along the renowned French Col del Finistre and the Italian Strada del Assietta passes, including visits and exploring the remains of numerous old military forts, and driving over the highest road in all Europe. Three very special nights of camping out wild in the most beautiful, secluded and unspoiled Alpine wilderness locations, one of which is situated in an area with plenty of firewood, so the kids can enjoy toasting marshmallows on the bonfire. Frequent walks and picnic lunches at some pristine mountain, river and lake settings, affording opportunities to swim. An exhilarating morning of river rafting , which includes some small rapids but no rough turbulent ‘white water’ as such.  Some of the best off-road driving to be found anywhere in Europe, through exciting terrain offering unbeatable views. Almost all of the campsites have swimming pools, while one that does not is located on the shore of an enormous lake. Another exhilarating outdoor adventure activity is the off-road scootering all the way down the famous Parpaillon track. The next day you will drive your own vehicle up that same track, through the Tunnel du Parpaillon, down the other side! Stunning views of Mont Blanc, from a twisty mountain track. Plus so much more...everybody loves this tour, from the grandchildren to the grandparents, just read the reviews...

Previous participants' reviews of this tour

"Fantastic experience! Been on several trips with Barry since 2019, an each trip has brought its own amazing memories and experiences! From quad biking in the Moroccan desert to white water rafting in the Alps or surfing in Portugal - all things I would have never experienced if it wasn't for Active 4x4 Adventures! With regards to the food ... I have never gone hungry (and I'm a very fussy eater). I'm already looking to book my next trip in 2024 :)" Mitch Randle

"Just finished the Alps Trip with Barrie.  Another brilliant itinerary,  great tracks, fantastic views and great fun. Plus a good day rafting and of course great meals. Couldn't fault it." Bob Churcher

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank you and your family for one of the best holidays we have ever had. My wife, daughter and myself had an amazing time. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour of the Alps, and the scenery and trails we encountered were awesome. The food and meals you prepared and served us were of the highest standard and the portion sizes were huge! I’m amazed that you can get better than restaurant quality from your mobile kitchen. The other holiday guests were fantastic company and the whole setup worked perfectly. We are looking forward to booking our next holiday with you in the near future. Best regards." Jon, Kerry & Meg Matthews

"Thank you for making the dream trip more than I imagined. It's not often this is possible but Barrie blew my mind! The food, the people, the hospitality, the Alpine scenery and the way that you brought 23 people together was just amazing. I can't wait to join you on the next trip. Anybody thinking of going on any of Barrie's trips need not think twice - just book, you will definitely not be disappointed. All the best to you and your lovely family." Andy Booker & Jack Bromley

"Barrie and his family were very friendly and we all got on really well and enjoyed their company. The food was really good. We would recommend him and do another tour." Donna & Neil Ashford

"Thank you Barrie, Jana, Louis and Amelie for a great holiday in Les Alpes. We had a great time in stunning scenery with good company and obviously great food! Had a nice trip up to Chatel and a nice end to our holiday in a posh hotel. Left after breakfast yesterday and made it home by 1am! Busy at Calais and had to wait but club lounge eased the pain with champagne and open sandwiches! Cheers and travel with you again in the future." Charles & Jane Bagnall

"Hi Barrie, Thank you for such a memorable trip to the Alps. Even though it was our first 4X4 tour, we felt completely at ease because of your professionalism. It was great to meet your lovely family and the rest of the group, the incredible support we had from them and yourself when my disco broke down was overwhelming, once again thank you. Kind regards." Colin & Julia Guest

"Thank you for an amazing time. This was our first ever off-roading experience and we were unsure what to expect. We have not had any off-road tuition nor any experience of this kind of trip before. Your knowledge of the terrain and all the places you took us far exceeded expectations. Your guidance over the challenging parts was reassuring and put us at ease, which in turn gave us confidence. Your catering skills are to be commended and made every evening as enjoyable as the days. We had the most fantastic time and we cannot wait for our next trip with Barrie to Portugal." Sean Pollard & Clive Morton

"The Alps was our first off road family holiday and everyone enjoyed the experience thoroughly. This was advertised as a family holiday so we were not sure how tough the trails would be, however we were not disappointed and we encountered tracks which provided a good mix of terrain, obstacles and scenery. There were one or two hairy moments, the highlight being a team effort to dig a path through a steep expanse of frozen snow covering the trail. And the food provided by Barrie was consistently excellent with each of us having our own favourite. It was not all about driving offroad however, with an unexpected visit to Monaco, which went down well with the girls. We would certainly travel with Barrie again and would recommend the Alps Tour, especially to those looking for a great introduction to off road adventures." Kenny, Lynne, Eilidh & Hannah Cuerden

"Barrie is very professional and supplied excellent food. The alps tour was superb although our vehicle low range failed so we did the tour in high which was challenging at times but we succeeded. Very scenic and beautiful and being our first event I'd highly recommend it. Just make sure your low range works!!" Amanda & Andy Lowe

"Thank you Barrie for a brilliant trip through the Alps, we look forward to joining you again soon.” Ross & Amanda Howard

"Thank you for the effort and hard work you put into the Alps trip.  We had a fantastic time and will be recommending you to our friends."

Ian & Nicki Rubie

"Just a thank you for a brilliant trip through the French & Italian Alps." David & Christine Pickles

“Sorry we haven't been in touch earlier, no sooner had we got back then we were away again.  However, now back at the 'coal face' and have a chance to write and thank you for a really enjoyable time in the Alps!  Your cooking was second to none and mealtimes were so enjoyable.  It was a real break for me to not have to cook on a holiday, but still enjoy all of the adventure of over landing and wild camping.  We loved the amazing tracks and awesome views and you were really kind and patient with our two young boys.  Thank you so much for giving us a great family holiday and we have sung your praises to all that listen!” Pete, Jo, Ben & Luke Forshaw

“As a ‘gear test’ for a planned off-road trip next year, we decided to take the Alps tour with Barrie. Apart from taking advantage of Barrie’s local knowledge of the tracks and terrain, we'd decided that we’d quite enjoy being pampered for a change as we're normally completely "solo" and self-sufficient. We wouldn’t have to feed ourselves or work out where to go but instead enjoy the company of like-minded people and the scenery while testing our kit in more demanding situations than are possible at home. Barrie would take care of the rest. We were not disappointed! The tour was everything we expected it to be - almost... We were definitely not prepared for the quality of Barrie's organisation and customer support. This was excellent, a notable aspect of the trip and was clearly thought out. As is often said, “it’s not the destination but the journey” which is the best part of travelling, and our journey through the Alps this Summer was one of the more enjoyable trips we’ve completed. The company was excellent, the scenery magnificent, the food superb. Even the rather mixed bag of weather we experienced added an unexpected ingredient to the mix – there’s something rather eerie - but magical - in driving ut of the trees and tops of the clouds into brilliant sunshine having been enveloped in mist for an hour or two. Overall impression? Excellent value - and a good mix of activity given that Barrie has to conjure up a plan that will suit all comers in all weathers. The downside? Well, I don't usually plan to come home from a mountain holiday weighing five pounds more than when I left......Would we do it again? Absolutely." Mike & Sue Wood

What our clients are saying

“ Most amazing day! Edgar was an excellent guide and made it such a memorable day!!

Very knowledgeable about the island. He was very accommodating and offered to let us stay at locations longer if we wanted to. Definitely recommend this to anyone travelling to Madeira. We would not have been able to see some of these parts of the island on our own. ”

— Ella C

Best way to see the island!

“ Just got back from our trip with Edgar and could not recommend enough! We thought about hiring a car but learned so much and could never have navigated some of the scary roads. The car was awesome and comfortable through all of the twists and turns.

He tailored the trip to give us more time swimming and at the beach and every stop and view was magical! I would definitely say this is the best way to see as much of the island as you can with a base in Funchal. Would do it again and would recommend to anyone! ”

— Anne L - Wilmington, Delaware - USA

Beautiful experience

“ Today we had an amazing experience with Edgar :) the way how he showed us the Madeira was incredible so interesting! So many details of the island. Definitely recommended. Thank you for a good time!

He has an extense knowledge of the islands history, plant live and people. It was an exciting, entertaining and interesting experience. Edgar adjusted the trip to our wishes, stopped for great foto opportunities and added places we did not even know existed.

He is our #1 choice for any trip around the island. ”

Best experience in Madeira

“ We (me and my 14yo son) had our best day in Madeira island with Edgar during our private tour to Porto Moniz. Very knowledgeable about the history and curiosities of each spot and a great driver! We would have never got to those spots without him driving through the back roads with us.

The super extra mile was when he drove us back to the skywalk by the end o of the day because it was very cloudy the morning when we had been there. Highly recommended! ”

— Fernanda M

These 5 Arizona hotels were just named among the world's best. Here's why they stand out

4x4 tour trip

Five Arizona hotels were just named among the best in the world for 2024.

Travel + Leisure unveiled its 2024 T+L 500 list of the world's best hotels, compiled based on ratings from its readers, in its May issue. The list includes five Arizona hotels, including four that made T+L's 2023 best hotels in Arizona ranking .

Readers evaluate based on their levels of quality, luxury, service and amenities. Here's a look at which Arizona hotels made the Travel + Leisure 2024 best hotels list.

For more hotels recognized as being among the best of metro Phoenix, read about the honorees in  U.S. News & World Report's 2024 ranking ,  Forbes' 2024 Star Awards , and  Esquire's best new hotels in the world .

Five Arizona hotels selected by Travel + Leisure

Readers of Travel + Leisure, America's largest travel media brand, selected five Arizona hotels on its 2024 ranking of the world's best hotels:

  • Castle Hot Springs, Morristown.
  • The Hermosa Inn, Paradise Valley.
  • Mountain Shadows Resort, Paradise Valley.
  • Sanctuary Camelback Mountain, A Gurney's Resort & Spa, Paradise Valley.
  • Tanque Verde Ranch, Tucson.

“We’re honored to be recognized on the highly coveted T+L 500 List,” said Andrew Chippindall, general manager of Mountain Shadows Resort. “It’s a true testament to our team’s unwavering commitment to providing exceptional experiences for our treasured guests.”

How Travel + Leisure World's Best hotels 2024 were chosen

The T+L 500 list is derived from T+L's annual World's Best Awards, selected based on reader reviews and feedback. Readers were surveyed about their travel experiences around the world, including hotels, cities, islands, airlines, cruise ships and other experiences.

Readers rated hotels based on their rooms and facilities, location, service, food and overall value. They scored each category on a scale from "excellent" to "poor."

The hotels recognized this year are favorites among the publication's readers, who named Castle Hot Springs the best Arizona hotel of 2021 and 2022 and the Hermosa Inn the state's best of 2023. All except for Tanque Verde Ranch were included on last year's list of the 10 best hotels in Arizona.

On April 24, 2024, the MICHELIN Guide revealed the brand new list of One, Two, and Three Key hotels in the United States. In this first ever announcement of MICHELIN Keys in the United States, hotels in Atlanta, California, Chicago, Colorado, Florida, New York, and Washington DC were eligible for the distinction. This announcement of the most outstanding hotels in the country comes four years into a comprehensive refresh of our hotel selection. The MICHELIN Guide now includes over 5,000 hotels across the world, and not a single one is simply a room for the night. These are places that significantly add to your experience as a traveler, each vetted and judged excellent in five categories: architecture and interior design, quality and consistency of service, overall personality and character, value for the price, and a significant contribution to the guest experience in a particular setting. Which brings us back to the Keys. The culmination of countless hours of evaluation by our team of experts, the Key hotels below represent the highlights of our broader selection. Like the MICHELIN Stars for restaurants, the MICHELIN Keys are our most outstanding hotels. In total, the 2024 MICHELIN Guide hotel selection in the United States includes 11 Three Key hotels, 33 Two Key hotels, and 80 One Key hotels. Want to know more about the MICHELIN Key? Highlights of the United States 2024 Key Hotel List

The Aman New York — New York, New York

The Three Key Club in New York City

Expect: The highest luxury and impeccable design in Soho, Midtown, and the Financial District. Within the small club of Three Key hotels in the United States, four make their home in New York City. The Aman New York (Midtown) and Casa Cipriani (the Financial District) both make use of glamorous Beaux Arts buildings, the former a gold-crowned skyscraper in Midtown, the latter a glamorously restored ferry terminal at the very southern tip of Manhattan. Each is a refuge: an elegant, painstakingly designed escape from bustling city life. Meanwhile, two Firmdale hotels round out the list of Three Key hotels in New York City. Each is a quintessential example of the style and execution of the group’s co-owner and interior designer, Kit Kemp. Click the links here to explore the whirl of colors and collage of art that define the Crosby Street (Soho) and the Whitby Hotel (Midtown). Also read: Every Three Key Hotel in Paris

Jewels on the Coast: Up and Down California

Its sheer breadth of size and variety means it’s no surprise to announce California as the state with the most Key hotels in America. Here, we’ll point you towards coastal gems like the sublime architectural achievements in Big Sur ( Post Ranch Inn and Ventana ), beachside luxuries in Santa Monica (in particular: the newly opened Georgian ), and wine country favorites like SingleThread and the Madrona . What we love: how each one of these hotels opens the door to the very best of their locations — and gives us a look at each setting through fresh eyes.

The Chicago Athletic Association — Chicago, Illinois

Across America: The Golden Age of Celebrity

Our French Keys bask in the tradition of ancient vineyards, stone chateaus, and historic palaces. In the United States, we see a different tradition. In Los Angeles, places like Chateau Marmont , the Paramour Estate , Sunset Tower , and the Charlie date back to guests and residents as illustrious as Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe. These are spaces that play ingeniously with their history, even as they forge ahead with cutting-edge amenities and experiences. But it’s not just California. New York’s historic artist hotspot, the Hotel Chelsea , once hosted Bob Dylan and Andy Warhol. Today, it decorates every space with art donated by former residents. Look too to the Chicago Athletic Association , a former member’s club for 20th century business magnates and athletes — now among the city’s most impressive and vibrant hotels. U.S. travel alert: Cruise line cancels more visits to popular Caribbean destination

4x4 tour trip

Royal Caribbean Cruise Line has canceled more stops at one of its most popular destinations due to safety concerns.

RoyalCaribbeanblog.com, a website that tracks the line, reported guests booked in the summer and early fall are receiving notification their visits to Labadee, Haiti have been canceled. Labadee is a private resort operated by Royal Caribbean.

The line had previously canceled visits to Labadee through the end of May. The stop was replaced with visits to other destinations or a day at sea.

The cancellations affect several Royal Caribbean ships, including Adventure of the Seas, Independence of the Seas, Liberty of the Seas, Freedom of the Seas, and Symphony of the Seas, the website reported.

Royal Caribbean announced in March it was suspending calls to the resort on the northern coast of Haiti after the U.S. State Department issued an alert advising people not to visit the country. Haiti is at a Level Four travel advisory, alongside countries such as Russia, Syria and Burkina Faso, due to issues with “kidnapping, crime, civil unrest and poor healthcare infrastructure,” U.S. officials said.

Haiti is located on the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic sharing the island to the east. The Dominican Republic is under a level 2 advisory with visitors urged to exercise increased caution.
