Spend three days in the depths of the Amazon rainforest, experiencing its natural splendor by wooden canoe, viewing nocturnal wildlife on a nighttime jungle safari, and hiking beneath towering canopies of sumaumeira and Brazil nut trees.

See the Meeting of the Waters, a striking natural phenomenon where the dark and contrasting sandy colors of the Rio Negro and Rio Solimôes converge but never mix.

This 3-day exploration of Earth's mightiest river is woven with cultural experiences, as professional guides lead you through the home of a Caboclo, invite you to take part in piranha fishing, and share with you their knowledge on how indigenous tribes capitalize on the healing properties of the Amazon's medicinal plants.

Rest your head at the husband and wife operated Amazon Green Tour Lodge, a spacious and air-conditioned retreat 200 km southeast of Manaus.

Boasting a hammock area for maximum relaxation, sink into one as you revel in the simple pleasures of the Amazon rainforest - the melodic chirping of birds and the buzzing of cicadas occasionally interrupted by the calls of howler monkeys.

Depart from Manaus at 8 am and arrive at Ceasa Port to experience the hustle and bustle of their fish market, where local fishermen offer their freshest catch of the morning. Then head to Xiborena for an up-close encounter with a pirarucu - South America's largest freshwater fish that weighs up to 400 pounds, and one of the Amazon River basin's most prized possessions.

Then see the Meeting of the Waters, where the dark currents of the Rio Negro and the sandy-colored tides of the Rio Solimôes converge, but never mix due to stark differences in temperature, water density, and speed. Travel along with the two-toned natural phenomenon, where you'll have the opportunity to dip your hands into both Amazon River tributaries to feel the difference in temperature.

Visit the quaint village of Careiro, where you'll board a van for a 1.5-hour journey along the BR 319 and AM 254 highways, stopping along the way to observe the Victoria lilies, a plant species native to the Amazon River basin. Impressive for its sheer size, the diameter of the Victoria lily can reach up to 3 m.

Reach Furo do Tucunaré, where a wooden canoe will transport you to the Amazon Green Tours Jungle Lodge. Settle into your accommodation and enjoy lunch here. 

Board a speed boat and travel downstream on the Mutuca River where you'll visit the home of a Caboclo - a person of mixed indigenous Brazilian and European ancestry, and gain insight into their local customs and culture. Continue downstream where you can try your hand at the bucket list Amazonian activity of piranha fishing. Bearing razor teeth, the piranha is a freshwater fish indigenous to the Amazon basin. After observing sunset on the waters, go caiman spotting before returning to the lodge. On the way back, encounter snakes in the wild if you're lucky.

Day 2 SUNRISE, JUNGLE HIKE, CANOE, NIGHT BOAT EXCURSION

Take in the magic of an Amazonian sunrise while you enjoy breakfast at the lodge at 5:30 this morning. Then leave for a 3-hour hike in the jungle to learn how vines provide a clean source of water for the region, techniques that are pertinent to survival in the jungle, and how the indigenous tribes create animal traps to source food. Home to as many as 80,000 unique plant species, you'll also learn about the healing properties of medicinal plants, how the indigenous people of the Amazon use them to treat common ailments, and its role in modern medicine today.

Depending on your time of visit, canoe in the gentle streams in the wet season, known as igarapés in the Amazonian region, or along the river in the dry season, increasing your chances of encountering monkeys, birds, and toucans.

When night falls, embark for your second canoeing trip of the day to spot nocturnal wildlife. In deep slumber during the day, some Amazonian creatures come out of hiding and explore the forest and hunt for food only in the darkness. Keep your eyes peeled for possible sightings of caimans, amphibious carnivores belonging to the alligator family. There are six distinct species of caimans, with the Cuvier’s dwarf being the smallest at barely 1 m long, and the black caiman being the largest, at up to 4.5 m. Explore the riverbanks, and perhaps have the chance to also witness night-hawks, snakes, and frogs.

Day 3 BIRDWATCHING, SUMAUMEIRA TREE, DEPARTURE

Depart the jungle lodge at 5:20 this morning and go birdwatching on the river as you glide along in a canoe. You'll also have the opportunity to spot monkeys as they swing from tree to tree. Return to the lodge for breakfast at 7 am, then travel upstream along the Mutuca River for an opportunity to spot wildlife and to marvel at one of the largest trees found in the Amazon rainforest - the sumaumeira, which can reach towering heights of 60 m. 

Transfer to your Manaus hotel or to Manaus Eduardo Gomes International Airport for your onward journey.

If necessary, it is imperative to get your yellow fever vaccine at least ten days prior to departure. 

Weather conditions in the Amazon rainforest vary greatly depending on the two seasons: the wet season from December to May and the dry season from June until November. Regardless of the season, you have to be prepared for rain throughout the year, although it rains a lot less during the dry season.
