Baseball announces December mission trip to the Dominican Republic

Baseball announces December mission trip to the Dominican Republic

This December, members of the Benedictine Baseball program will embark on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic. The trip is scheduled for Dec. 13-20 and will give the players, coaches, and staff an opportunity to take the values of Benedictine College into the Dominican through baseball.

"I was blessed with the opportunity to travel to the Dominican Republic as the director of baseball operations at the University of Kansas, to serve the D.R. communities 10 years ago," said Benedictine head coach Eric Peterson. It's been a dream of mine to share that experience with one of my own teams. This trip will provide perspective like none other and grow our Benedictine community through a service-based mission.

With your support, we can change lives."

There are multiple ways to donate to the trip. You can make a donation at two places online – my.benedictine.edu/baseball , which is the baseball program's only donation location – and at benedictine.edu/givemissions , which allows you to select the baseball trip as your mission donation. You can also donate hygiene kit products that will help meet the team's goal for the trip.

Dominic Susanka and Matthew Gephardt are two of the players who are helping lead the team on the trip, an opportunity they both know will have an impact on the baseball program.

"For me and my teammates, this trip is a chance for us to take what we are learning here and spread it around the world," Susanka said. We talk about how part of our mission (at Benedictine) is to transform culture in America. This trip not only gives us not only a chance to transform culture in America but in another country that might need our help."

"I see this as a life-changing experience, not only for me but for everyone involved," Gephardt said. "Serving that community will help provide my life with more purpose and give me a perspective that will help me in the real world and allow me to help my brothers and sisters in a way that Christ would."

Some trip highlights include Building international relationships through baseball. (The Ravens will play local Dominican teams.), visiting an orphanage, painting houses, distributing hygiene kits in sugar cane villages, and an opportunity to celebrate Mass and the Sacraments with locals in the Dominican communities they will be serving.

Taking the Gospel EVERYWHERE

Let’s Partner!

Our Mission

About score international, mission statement.

“To glorify God through missions in obedience to the Great Commission.” Matt. 28:19-20, 1 Peter 4:7-11

Vision Statement:

“To give every man, woman, and child where the ministry serves multiple opportunities to hear, see, and respond to the Gospel of Jesus Christ through Gospel saturation, and true discipleship (disciples making disciples).”

SCORE Ministries

Our vision has spread to many other ministries that sprouted from SCORE’s foundation. Those ministries include:

Anti-Human Trafficking

Sports ministries, child sponsorship, church planting, medical outreach, clean water.

SCORE ( S haring C hrist O ur R edeemer E verywhere) International was founded in 1984 by Ron Bishop. As a teenager, Ron went on a short-term foreign mission trip, and it was on that trip that the Lord planted the seed in Ron’s evangelistic heart that everyone should be exposed to missions. After a successful career as the former head basketball coach at Tennessee Temple University (4 national championships during his 10 years coaching), Ron felt God calling him to put his basketball coaching whistle away and start this ministry. The seed the Lord had planted in Ron’s heart for missions all those years ago came to fruition through establishing SCORE International.

While SCORE began as a sports ministry that solely focused on short-term mission trips, it soon expanded to a global missions organization. Mr. Bishop served as the Executive Director of SCORE from 1984 until 2011. His heart, passion, and vision led SCORE through many phases of growth and change. During his tenure, SCORE not only took tens of thousands of people on short-term mission trips, but they also began adding career missionaries in domestic and international locations. Ron Bishop set the ministry up for great success and his legacy continues to impact lives. Ron passed from this life to his eternal home with his Lord and Savior in June 2014.

Today, SCORE International is a full-service mission organization that is impacting lives all around the world. Coby Orr is SCORE’s current Interim Executive Director and also serves as SCORE’s Board Chair. SCORE’s Leadership Team is comprised of Chuck Grooms, Rick Robinson, Erica Jude and David Gaither, and together the Leadership Team has over 35 years combined experience with SCORE International. The organization continues to grow its efforts in long-term, sustainable ministries such as church planting, discipleship, anti-human trafficking, medical outreaches, orphan care, clean water initiatives, and much more. At the end of 2023, SCORE had 54 missionary families serving as career missionaries. Our short-term trip teams partner with our long-term missionaries and ministries to create relationships that point toward Jesus. As we look to the future, it is our prayer that SCORE International will continue to impact lives through missions. Our desire is to reach the nations with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to see disciples being multiplied for His Glory.

We Believe…

  • The verbal, plenary inspiration and inerrancy of the Scriptures, God’s Holy Word
  • God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit
  • The deity, virgin birth and bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ
  • Man is born in sin and needs spiritual regeneration
  • Salvation by grace through faith in the shed blood of Jesus Christ, plus nothing, minus nothing
  • The everlasting, conscious blessedness of the saved in Heaven and the everlasting, conscious punishment of the lost in Hell
  • Saved people have a mandate from God to be obedient to God’s Holy Word.
  • The personal, visible, and imminent return of Jesus Christ
  • The authority of the local church as the institution ordained by God to evangelize the world and disciple Christians
  • Ecclesiastical separation as well as personal separation from the world so as to maintain a pure testimony
  • Salvation is eternally secured by the finished work of Christ.
  • The Sanctity of Life is from conception to natural death. Therefore, God wonderfully and immutably created each person as male and female.
  • God ordained the family institution. Marriage is the sacred union of one man and one woman in a covenantal commitment for life.
  • La inspiración verbal, plenaria y la inerrancia de las Escrituras, la Santa Palabra de Dios
  • Dios Padre, Dios Hijo, y Dios Espíritu Santo

Benefits of Sports Camps for Your Children

According to Emily Wyman, a  psychologist at Notting University, one of the most striking features of sports camps from a development perspective was the combination of collaborative teamwork, rules, mixed age groups, and spirit of play formulating a camp as a “whole.” This is beneficial in that it has a positive effect on the child at a young age, and by employing the skills available can also provide a positive long-term influence for teenage and adult years.

1. The Health Benefits

Potentially one of the greatest benefits of sports camps is the direct improvement in a child’s health. This positive change in their health can be obtained via exercise; however,  camp activities  also teach children how to exercise and remain active after completing tasks. The  World Health Organization  estimates  childhood obesity  is at an all-time high with approximately 6 billion children being affected on a global basis. To avoid placing your child at risk, it is important for the child to remain active and engage in active tasks daily.

2. The Mental Health Benefits

In addition to offering physical health benefits, sports camps for children can also offer  mental health benefits  for the users. Research has found that participation in sports can improve a child’s numeracy score by approximately 8% and studies with underachieving students have found a 29% increase in numeracy skills among those who are engaging in summer sports camp activities .

3. Increased Social Skills and Independence

Summer camps have been known to foster independence among the children in their programs. This benefit is due to the child being taught autonomy by completing tasks on their own; thereby, developing more  social skills , increasing feelings of independence and  self-confidence . Furthermore, the child is also able to learn about equal relations when bargaining overrules games and resolving situations where the rules may be considered ambiguous.

4. Gaining Self-Discipline

As children become adults, they will experience many life problems that can seem overwhelming and difficult to resolve. However, by attending a sports camp , the child can learn different problem-solving skills with perseverance to help them deal with challenges in later life.

5. Having A Good Time

While sports camps do provide several life skills, athletic skills, and health benefits, it is also important to remember that camps are focused on offering children an enjoyable experience. For the child to truly learn any life skills, it is important that they are enjoying their time at the sports camp and leave the camp with a positive feeling.

Our Vision Helping others live with purpose through an authentic relationship with Christ.

Our mission statement applying biblical truth to everyday life.

The mission of With Purpose International is to help others live With Purpose through an authentic relationship with God. Our staff have found that as we walk with God and pursue our unique abilities, gifts and talents we can passionately make a difference in the lives of those around us every day.

There are questions that each of us ask at some point in our lives. What is the meaning of life? Why am I here? What is my purpose in life? What legacy will I leave behind? Does my life matter?

Through one-on-one coaching, small groups & faith stretching mission trips, Since its founding in 2008, WPI seeks to help individuals begin a relationship with God or grow in their existing journey as they seek to answer these and other important questions related to life and faith.

OUR Goal Enabling People to Live a Life With Purpose.

What does a Life With Purpose look like?

Image

The Details This is how we accomplish our goal.

Small groups and one-on-one mentoring, training with purpose, marriage and family with purpose.

In a world that does not value the Biblical foundation of marriage and family, With Purpose International offers opportunities and programs to strengthen marriages and unite families in order to accomplish God’s purposes and plans for many generations to come. We offer small group Bible studies and one-on-one mentoring and discipleship to couples in a way that caters to the busy family schedule. Future opportunities for learning and growth will include conferences and retreats as well.

We at WPI maintain and continue to grow a network of small-group Bible Studies in the Triangle area across eastern North Carolina. Additionally,  Using the Bible as the principal resource, we mentor and encourage couples to cultivate a Christ-centered marriage and experience the blessings of a family living with purpose.   Contact us for more information about this ministry.

Sports With Purpose

Sports is a proven way to learn and apply life lessons. In the context of ministry to men over the last several years, Father/Son initiatives blossomed into a ministry through sports….specifically baseball. Purpose Driven Baseball is an division of WPI that builds into the lives of young men through our local program serving Wake and Johnston Counties. In addition, we take Fathers/Sons on Summer baseball mission trips and take current and former MLB players and coaches to use baseball as a platform to share their secrets to success on and off the field. To learn more, visit Purpose Driven Baseball .

PRO5 Baseball Academy is a year-round program for high school baseball players who aspire to maximize their baseball talent through daily professional instruction and high level competition. The staff provides a structure that is conducive to both academic and athletic achievement. TOKYO — American and Japanese baseball players gathered in the Japanese capital recently to trumpet an exhibit of historic memorabilia that celebrate the two countries’ shared love of the game.

Thursday’s gathering at the U.S. ambassador’s residence promoted the July opening of an exhibit at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, N.Y.

“Yakyu/Baseball: The Transpacific Exchange of the Game between Japan and the United States” will showcase the history of players, fans and teams from both countries, Hall of Fame president Josh Rawitch said at the event.

Major League Baseball memorabilia, including a jersey Shohei Ohtani wore during his first games with the Los Angeles Dodgers, sits on display at the U.S. ambassador's in Tokyo, April 18, 2024.

Among the items brought to Tokyo by the Hall of Fame were:

A Los Angeles Dodgers jersey worn by Shohei Ohtani during his first home games with the team this season.

Spikes worn by Seattle Mariners outfielder Ichiro Suzuki at Safeco Field on Oct. 1, 2004, when he broke a one-season record with his 258th base hit of the year. He got four more hits that season, setting a record of 262 that still stands.

A baseball thrown by Dodgers pitcher Hideo Nomo during his no-hitter at Denver’s Coors Field on Sept. 17, 1996.

A Cincinnati Reds cap worn by left fielder George Foster during the team’s 1978 tour of Japan. Foster was part of the “Big Red Machine” that won back-to-back World Series in 1975 and ’76.

The first Japanese player to appear on a Major League team, Masanori Murakami, posed for photos with a glove he wore during his time in America.

He was a relief pitcher for the San Francisco Giants in 1964 and 1965.

“I’m really grateful that I was able to play in that atmosphere,” he said, adding that many Japanese players followed in his footsteps.

“I’m extremely happy they are doing really well,” he said.

“Japanese players are taking American baseball by storm,” said U.S. Ambassador to Japan Rahm Emanuel. The former Chicago mayor, who also served as a congressman, said he lived six or seven blocks from the Cubs’ home ground, Wrigley Field.

Outfielder Warren Cromartie, the first major leaguer to play in Japan during his prime, was also on hand for the event. The former Montreal Expo joined the Yomiuri Giants in 1984 and played seven seasons with the team, swatting 171 home runs.

Baseball transcends national boundaries, said Cromartie, whom fans dubbed the “Black Samurai.”

About a dozen Japanese players are with Major League teams in the United States today, he added.

“Since 1871, it has become a passion for the Japanese,” Cromartie said. “In my seven years here in Japan, I played with many great Japanese players who could have played in the majors.”

Chicago white sox | ‘it really motivated me’: trip to the negro leagues baseball museum inspires chicago white sox and ace players.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Colten Jones made his way through the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum on April 6, sporting a Chicago American Giants cap.

An outfielder in the Chicago White Sox Amateur City Elite (ACE) youth program, Jones listened intently as museum President Bob Kendrick shared tales of Andrew “Rube” Foster, James Thomas “Cool Papa” Bell, Ted “Double Duty” Radcliffe and Jackie Robinson — who Major League Baseball is paying tribute to Monday with the annual “Jackie Robinson Day.”

“I really loved the stories,” Jones said, particularly about Hall of Famer Satchel Paige’s pitches, “and how he named them all.”

Jones and fellow ACE 13/14U players Brock Hamilton, Matthew Nabieu and Jordan Terrell recently visited the museum while the Sox were in Kansas City for their series against the Royals. Several Sox representatives — including assistant general manager Josh Barfield, hitting coach Marcus Thames, first-base coach Jason Bourgeois, television announcer John Schriffen and pitcher Michael Kopech — also attended.

“This experience is great,” said Nabieu, 13, an infielder. “It showed me what really went on in the Negro Leagues and what the MLB was built off of. It showed that everything was not made in the MLB.”

Nabieu had visited the museum before but felt like the in-depth stories provided by Kendrick added another layer on this particular afternoon.

“It never gets old to me, whether I’m sharing the stories with major-league athletes, current and past, athletes from any sports discipline, but this means a little extra because it is the White Sox and how close the White Sox have been and how supportive the White Sox have been to the museum through the years,” Kendrick said. “To be able to have kids from the ACE program here is not the first time, but it’s always significant.

“I hope they take something away from this that will drive them as they continue to play this game.”

That mission was accomplished.

“It was a really good experience, getting to see everything, the old history about Black baseball,” said Hamilton, 14, who is a first baseman and an aspiring broadcaster. “It was all very important.”

Hamilton called the tour a “blessing.”

“Not everybody gets to have something like this,” he said. “The fact that I get the chance to have this opportunity is really good.”

Barfield always tries to make it a point to visit the museum whenever he is in town. He enjoyed getting the chance to share the experience with the ACE players.

“It’s another generation removed from the Negro Leagues,” Barfield said. “I think the farther and farther we get away from it, it’s so important for young kids to hear those stories so they continue to pass that on and get an appreciation of like why we get to play the game today and the privileges we have today.

“Those guys paved the way for us. It’s an awesome story. I think they really enjoyed their time there.”

So did Kopech, who made his first visit with his family. Like Jones, Kopech was enthralled by Paige.

“I always love Satchel Paige, hearing story after story about Satchel Paige,” Kopech said. “I didn’t know he could potentially have been older than I thought when he played, which is crazy to think about.

“I went in biased because I always liked Satchel Paige — seeing how much (overall) memorabilia is there, all the signed balls, it’s really cool.”

The lessons went beyond the playing field.

“As I remind folks, it is triumph over that adversity,” Kendrick said. “That’s what makes this story so compelling, so awe-inspiring to those who come here.

“I think they come here and they walk away cheering the power of the human spirit to persevere and prevail.”

Everyone said they left inspired.

“It really showed stories and how the MLB really developed,” Jones said. “It really motivated me and really uplifted me to be as good as them and have as much love for the game.”

FAMU players raising money to interconnect faith and football on mission trip to Argentina

Florida a&m football players nay’ron jenkins and lamar clark are raising money for a may mission work trip work in buenos aires, argentina. the duo works under the fellowship of christian athletes..

baseball mission trips

When he isn’t looking to attack the ball carrier on the football field,  Florida A&M  linebacker  Nay’Ron Jenkins  serves a bigger purpose.

The junior is  raising money  to travel to Buenos Aires, Argentina, for mission work under the  Fellowship of Christian Athletes .

Founded in 1954, the FCA is an interdenominational Christian sports ministry that sees the world impacted by Jesus Christ through the influence of coaches and athletes, its website says. The FCA headquarters is based in Kansas City, Missouri, and has offices across the United States and abroad.

With a goal of raising $2,500, Jenkins began the campaign in early April and hopes to reach the threshold by the end of the month. The money will be used for flights, food, and lodging.

Jenkins and FCA’s Argentina trip is scheduled for May 4-11. Jenkins’ teammate, junior FAMU defensive back  Lamar Clark , also plans to attend and is  actively raising money .

“I’ve been working with FCA since high school, and I met a guy named Ryan Sprague (FCA College Director and former Florida State football player), who has allowed me to teach them football and get them closer to Christ,” Jenkins told the  Tallahassee Democrat .

“Lamar and I are trying to go over there and raise the money so we can be as beneficial as possible to help them.”

A well-versed student-athlete, Jenkins, a Broadcast Journalism scholar from Alachua, is a  Southwestern Athletic Conference Honor Roll Student  and represented the league in last weekend’s  NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum .

He’s excited to share his faith and introduce American Football to Argentinian children while he spends a week in Buenos Aires.

“We’re doing mostly camps for the kids,” Jenkins said. “We’re going to set up football drills because the FCA leader over there said that the sport they haven’t learned much about is American Football. We want to be able to teach them that and help them gain a relationship with Christ.”

On the football field, Jenkins enjoyed the success of his  FAMU football team winning the SWAC and Black College Football National Championships  during the 2023 season.

Jenkins said part of that triumph has been because of the giving nature of Rattler Nation and all who love FAMU.

Jenkins hopes the FAMU faithful financially supports him and Clark as they travel to Argentina for a bigger purpose in two weeks.

“Rattler Nation, I love you guys and know you will go above and beyond. I want to thank you in advance for all the support that’s already been given,” Jenkins said.

“I will do my best to represent us well when I go to Argentina and ensure the Rattler joy is not only through the US but also around the world.”
