Miami Food Tour

Excellent Tour!

My daughter, granddaughter and myself had Sol as our tour guide. We had a fabulous time. Sol was so informative about the food, the restaurants, and the area. We enjoyed her tour so much it was the highlight of our trip. We tasted foods and tried places we wouldn’t have done by ourselves. I try and book a food tour in every new city I visit and Sol’s tour was among the best I’ve experienced.

We had Gary as our guide and couldn't have asked for better. Great food, great conversations, would absolutely recommend a tour to anyone!

Great Food Tour!

Gary was a great tour guide - very friendly and knowledgeable and fun. The food was great and learning about the area and the hidden gems was a bonus. Definitely recommend.

Amazing Introduction to the Culture!

I love the history that was given as well as the spots that were chosen. A very enthusiastic guide made it an amazing experience for my first ever food tour and first activity for my first time in Miami.

Our walking food tour of Miami’s South Beach is an active, premium adventure along South Beach’s storied streets: an excellent way to catch the best sights and tastes of the area on a tropical afternoon!

South Beach is known for its beaches, foodie scene, a large selection of entertainment venues and Art Deco architecture.

South Beach began to emerge as a jetsetter destination in the late 1980s, known for its expansive beaches, late-night entertainment, top modeling agencies, and A-list celebrities among its residents and regular visitors. Those who have viewed the television series, Miami Vice, or the movie, Scarface, have caught a glimpse of the dark origins of Miami Beach, largely fueled by capital from the South American drug trade, Gianni Versace moved into his iconic mansion on Ocean Drive in 1992, taking the glitz factor up a notch.

South Beach features the largest collection of Art Deco architecture in the world with many people flocking to marvel at this classic style bedecked in flashy Miami hues. We will visit the perfect selection of these impressive, preserved properties along Ocean Drive, Collins Avenue and Washington Avenue – 3 parallel streets that mark the borders of South Beach’s entertainment district.

We know you chose a food tour, and we definitely won’t forget to feed you. We definitely want you to savor some of the best bites Miami has to offer, and we’ve done all the grunt work for you, so you can just sit back and enjoy an exciting array of diverse cuisines, aligned with the diversity of our local population (with a little bit of walking, of course). We’ll stop at some of the top local foodie havens that are exceptional, not only for South Beach but for the entire Miami metropolitan area.

You’ll sample a variety of delicious foods, with the perfect mix of traditional and unique dishes, all delightful in their own right. For those who booked the VIP experience, you’ll enjoy some of our finest, local craft beers and cocktails. At the end of the tour, we hope to leave you full of local knowledge, great food and drink, and lingering memories of the amazing experience we had together.

What to Expect

Take a stroll up one of the most colorful and storied oceanside streets in the world: Ocean Drive.

Ocean Drive was not always the opulent, lively scene it is now. South Beach experienced a renaissance in the late 1980s as this coastal neighborhood transformed from a place full of dilapidated buildings and crime, to a glitzy mecca for artists, models, designers and nightlife impresarios. Dotted with elegant Art Deco architecture in bright, tropical hues, Ocean Drive is custom-made for good times and smiles.

Catch a breeze at an Ocean Drive classic: News Cafe.

Opening in 1988, News Cafe was one of the pivotal institutions in an emerging South Beach. It opened as a sidewalk cafe and newspaper stand on a much quieter Ocean Drive. It was the brainchild of New York restaurateur, Mark Soyka, a friend of visionary New York developer, Tony Goldman. Goldman pioneered the South Beach scene by restoring 18 properties in the historic Art Deco district in 1985. The 1930s Art Deco hotel in which News Cafe is located was recently renamed the Tony Hotel, in honor of Goldman.

Eat where old Havana meets Miami.

Pre-revolutionary Havana, Cuba, was a glamorous place rich with great food, dancing, music and a nightlife fit for the jetsetting crowd. Havana 1957 takes us back to that old Havana with delicious and authentic culinary delights and memorabilia from the heart of Cuba. The spirit of old Havana captures the hearts and taste buds of our Cuban-American neighbors, and visitors alike.

Remembering an icon at Versace Mansion.

Gianni Versace rests amongst the most iconic designers in world history. Many years after his tragic death by shooting on the steps of his Ocean Drive mansion, his legacy lives on as Versace remains one of the most elite, luxury designer brands in the world. We will stop by and marvel at Versace’s former abode where he was known to host lavish parties with A-list celebrities like Madonna in regular attendance.

Arriba, arriba! A taste of Mexico awaits.

Latin Americans make up about 70% of the population in the metropolitan Miami area, so it is no mystery that we have lots of great Latin American cuisine, and who doesn’t love Mexican? Oh! Mexico has graced South Beach with delicious fare from south of the border since 1997. Sure, we’re quite a distance from Tijuana, but that does not mean you can’t have great Mexican food in Miami Beach!

Yes, you can get a great sandwich at 4am in South Beach.

Don’t worry, our tours run at reasonable hours, but South Beach has been known since the late 1980s as a place to dance into the wee hours in our world-renowned clubs and bars (including our oldest bar, Mac’s Club Deuce, open since 1926). In an alley directly across the street from Mac’s stands the original La Sandwicherie, considered by many the best sandwich spot in Miami. With fresh, locally-baked bread delivered four times daily, and hours a night owl can celebrate, you’ll quickly come to understand why La Sandwicherie’s French-inspired fare has stayed strong since 1988.

Admire the world’s largest collection of historic Art Deco architecture.

Art Deco architecture emerged in the early 20th century and peaked in popularity in the 1920s and 30s. It draws inspiration from various sources, including Cubism, Ancient Egypt, and the machine age. South Beach hosts the world’s largest collection of well-preserved Art Deco properties. We’ll stop at several Art Deco classics like The Tides, The Carlyle, The Clevelander and the Cardozo Hotel (owned by none other than Gloria and Emilio Estefan of Miami Sound Machine fame). We’ll occasionally stop at Estefan Express Kitchen at the Cardozo for a tasty, Cuban bite. The rhythm is definitely going to get you on this exciting tour!

Get your just desserts on charming Española Way.

For a taste of Europe in Miami Beach, Española Way is the way! Considered by many to be the most charming street in Florida, this pedestrian walkway was created in 1925 and features sidewalk cafes and classic, Spanish architecture that may feel more Madrid than Miami. We close our tour at the lovely Mercato della Pescheria where you will enjoy a delicious dessert in a vibey atmosphere to set the tone for the rest of your stay with the sweet memories of our time spent together.

The walking food tour will conclude with some suggestions for the rest of your visit and other great places to eat in the Miami area.

Guests who are over 21 can add-on the VIP Craft Drink Package for only $19.99, which includes three 6-9 oz pours of our favorite local Miami brews and cocktails.

Our Partners

This iconic spot is known to many as the place that started the Ocean Drive scene. It was opened in 1989 by New York restaurateur, Mark Soyka, as a sidewalk cafe and newspaper stand. Soyka was a friend of New York developer, Tony Goldman, who was credited with popularizing South Beach by purchasing and renovating 18 properties in the historic Art Deco district in 1985, including this one. We’ll sample Tony’s Tomato Soup, a fresh roasted tomato soup with basil and a touch of cream, dedicated to the memory of Tony Goldman who never dined at News Cafe without having a cup of this distinctive tomato soup.

Havana 1957

Havana 1957 brings the flavors and feel of Havana in the glory of its pre-revolutionary days. We will sample their delicious, stuffed plantain cups with a variety of fillings (chicken, shredded beef or veggies). Those on our VIP beverage plan will enjoy an authentic mojito, perhaps the most delicious and revered rum-based cocktail of Cuba.

Cafe Americano

Cafe Americano is a jewel on Ocean Drive in the notable Art Deco property, Hotel Victor, built in the 1930s heyday of the South Beach Art Deco movement. We will always stop to check out Hotel Victor, but will only stop at Cafe Americano for a refreshing mimosa sample when we have guests who purchased the VIP beverage upgrade, which we of course highly recommend.

Estefan Express Kitchen

Owned by Cuban-American celebrities Gloria and Emilio Estefan of Miami Sound Machine fame, who also own the Art Deco Cardozo Hotel in which it is housed, this will be a grab-and-go stop for an out-of-this-world empanada with a delicious dipping sauce. The Estefans entered the hotel and restaurant industries after their music careers, and they do everything with incomparable finesse.

Another Ocean Drive favorite, all will indulge in a fabulous chicken taco at this fabulous Mexican outpost, because, of course, we need to fill you with an assortment of our best, local Latin fare. Our VIP beverage plan guests will enjoy a delicious Margarita. You may feel like you’ve been transported to Baja California, but we assure you this is still Miami Beach, and we’re on the Atlantic Ocean over here!

La Sandwicherie

Opening in 1988, just as South Beach was growing into its own, La Sandwicherie’s humble counter in an alleyway became a standby for locals and late-night revelers from all over, who satisfied their munchies on one of La Sanwicherie’s French-inspired sandwiches on freshly-baked French bread from a local bakery. With their homemade French vinaigrette to add to the flavor overload, their best-of-Miami sandwiches, like the Tropical we’ll sample, stand out amongst the crowd. The Tropical features mango, papaya and pineapple for a sweeter taste of the tropics.

Mercato della Pescheria

We want to leave you with both a full heart and a full stomach. Of course, we need dessert! Our final landing will be on the exotic, pedestrian portion of scenic Española Way, where we will stop at one of its beautiful sidewalk cafes, Mercato della Pescheria to sample their to-die-for Chocolate Ravioli. How could you go wrong with a sweet ending like that?

Any Questions?

Your best option is booking on our website. Whether it is the South Beach Food Tour or Little Havana Food Tour , you will always find the best prices booking directly through us.

You can also book through our affiliate partnering companies, but we would prefer to book directly through us so we don’t have to pay them the high commision rates.

On our Miami foodie walking tours we serve full size lunch/dinner, divided in 5 local food tasting spots. You will definitely not need to go and eat after for the next few hours.

Let’s put it this way – no one ever goes home hungry.

Miami Beach Food Tour : The Miami Beach Food tour lasts usually 3 hours depending on the size of the group and the pace of the tour. Please know that if we have some elders or participants that can’t walk fast we will be taking few minutes more.

However, if you have another event or tour scheduled after our South Beach food tour, please tell your guide so he keeps the punctuality.

Little Havana Food Tour: Our Little Havana Food Tours are as well lasting 3 hours. It might take a bit longer on Fridays and Saturdays or holidays. Normally, where we finish our tour if someone wants to stay and listens to more information about the Cuban Exile Art, feel free to stay around.

If you have something planned for after the tour, please let our guides know, so they don’t extend the tour.

Miami Beach Food Tour : There is over a mile of walk on our South Beach Food Tours as we explore and walk through Lincoln Road, Espanola Way and Ocean Drive. We also stroll through Collins Avenue and Washington Avenue.

Little Havana Food Tour : The Little Havana Food Tour has less than a mile walk, as the neighborhood and all the historical places are very close. It is suitable even for people who cannot walk too much.  This is the best tour for seniors in Miami.

We are NOT ABLE to accommodate individuals who have celiac disease, or provide any gluten free menu. We are able to accommodate vegetarians/dairy free diets on the Little Havana tours.

If you have any other dietary restrictions please let us know ahead while booking the tours, so we can make some arrangements.

Yes, usually we get great feedback from Miami locals. Our local community is very supportive of our work, because we share stories and offer places that most of the new or old Miamians have not learned yet.

Yes, they love it. Our guides are really appreciative of guests leaving gratuities. The common gratuity rate in Miami is 15-20% of your ticket price, depending on how much you enjoyed the tour

It is always great to take the tour at the beginning of your trip so you learn about things to do and places you must visit. Each neighborhood has plentiful options for dining and going out.

Doing our tour at the beginning of your trip will give you knowledge of orientation and which restaurants are a must go or not to go. You can also get first hand suggestions from our expert tour guides in other neighborhoods as well.

Miami Culinary Tours Compared

best miami beach food tour

This post covers some of the best food tours available in Miami, including information about the samples included, locations visited, and ticket prices for each service.

  • South Beach
  • Little Havana
  • Other Food Tours

The Miami food scene is a cultural melting pot of local, regional, and international flavors and you will discover unique dishes you won’t find in many other places.

The local cuisine is somewhat centered on seafood given the fresh abundant local supply.

Miami is also known for its authentic and amazing Cuban cuisine, but other ingredients common to Latin American food are used in restaurants throughout the city.

With so many great foods waiting to be tasted, you can bet that there are many food tours to choose from.

We’ve vetted the many options so you can find one that is right for you.

Some tours visit several different neighborhoods, while others focus on one specific neighborhood.

Most tours are in Miami’s popular areas: South Beach, Wynwood, and Little Havana.

The three most popular food tour companies are Miami Food Tours ,  Secret Food Tours, and Miami Culinary Tours.

The average price per person (in 2016) is between $45-$60 and includes tastings and in some cases includes transport.

Group size is usually limited to under 15 people which is a nice size to enjoy your tour.

We recommend that if you have any food allergies or restrictions, make sure to check each tour carefully to see whether or not they can accommodate you before buying a ticket.

SOUTH BEACH FOOD TOURS

If you’re looking for a tour that offers a taste of almost everything under the sun, South Beach is your best bet.

Discover what happens when foods typical of Cuba, Argentina, Spain, and the Caribbean make their way to Florida and end up in creative and inventive meals.

SoBe "Tour Des Forks"

Kosher Ice Cream

Offered by Miami Food Tours, this SoBe (South Beach) tour’s name is a play on the phrase “tour de force” and that is what this company strives to offer you.

They pride themselves on showing tourists the side of the city that locals like to visit most frequently.

The five tastings introduce you to Miami nouvelle cuisine, authentic ethnic eateries and a kosher ice cream factory.

You'll also learn about the culinary and artistic history of the area.

Lasting 3 hours and covering 1 ½ miles (be sure to wear comfortable shoes), this tour is a value if you are traveling with children as the price is substantially lower for kids under the age of 12.

Sporting 5 stars on TripAdvisor and 4 ½ stars on Yelp, this tour is a pretty safe bet. There are hardly any negative reviews for this tour or any other tours run by this company.

  • Availability: Daily  11 am

Food Tours of Miami

miami-food-tour

This tour company only offers one food tour and it’s a very good one.

They aim to give their guests an array of foods found in South Beach and include tastings of Cuban, Haitian, Peruvian, Mediterranean, Italian, French, and American foods.

It is suggested that you eat breakfast before the tour. This isn't to say you won't get enough to eat on the tour.

In fact, it is the opposite. So much food is sampled that for most people, lunch afterward is not needed.

This tour is highly rated on both Yelp and TripAdvisor.  The few negative reviews come from guests who were unfamiliar with the concept of a food tour.

There is also a generous discount for members of the military, veterans, policemen, and firemen.

Lastly, they offer private tours which might be a better way to try this tour if you are traveling with a large party.

  • $92.56/Adults | $67.56/Kids (5-12) | Free for kids under 5
  • Availability: Saturdays and Sundays at 11:30 am

WYNWOOD FOOD TOURS

Get out of the South Beach state of mind and experience one of the most creative neighborhoods in Miami through its artwork, architectural design, and eclectic restaurants.

Chefs in Wynwood delight in creating a fusion of several different cultural cuisines, so you can expect to discover a few new flavors while taking in the sights and sounds of this vibrant and colorful art district.

Wynwood Food & Art Tour

miami-food-tour-2

Another winner from Miami Culinary Tours.

You’ll visit some of Wynwood’s most unique restaurants serving dishes fusing Peruvian, Caribbean, and Italian cuisine.

As you walk to each location, your knowledgeable tour guides will tell you about the neighborhood and the artists who have contributed to its magnificent culture.

If you’re looking for a memorable meal, this Wynwood food tour will provide diverse and delectable flavors that you won’t soon forget.

The tour includes tastings from five establishments. Because there are so many fantastic dining options in Wynwood, this tour company likes to vary the establishments from time to time.

They actually pick from around 15 different restaurants when selecting the 5 stops, which means you could take this tour more than once and never eat the same food twice!

As we mentioned above, this food tour company is highly rated on Yelp and TripAdvisor and the same is true of this tour. Go for it!

  • $79/Adults | $69/Children (8-13 years old)
  • Availability: Thur - Sun at 12:30 pm
  • Duration: 2 ½ hours

Swooped With Forks Food Tour

swooped-tour

This is another offering from Miami Food Tours and offers a more interesting taste of Miami.

A change of scenery and menus can definitely make for a big difference in experiences.

What is specifically different about this tour from other tours is that instead of walking around the city, you’ll be swooped up in a golf cart and driven from location to location.

This food tour may take you to areas other than Wynwood, but most are located in the heart of this creative neighborhood.

Expect to learn a lot about the eclectic dishes you’ll find in the area as you uncover the history behind the architecture and street art that defines the “Magic City” as Wynwood is called.

While there are not a lot of reviews specifically discussing the Swooped With Forks tour, those that do are very favorable. Guests report generous sample sizes, which means you should eat a light breakfast.

One downside is that tickets are twice the price of other tours but that is because of the fact that you will be driven rather than walking. This is a big advantage for those with mobility issues or anyone who isn’t fond of walking in the heat and sun.

  • $129/Adults | $99/Children (8-15 years old)
  • Availability: 11 am | Check their calendar for availability.
  • Duration: 3 ½ - 4 hours
  • Learn more about this food tour .

LITTLE HAVANA FOOD TOURS

As you may have guessed, much of the Cuban culture and cuisine are located in the neighborhood named after the capital of Cuba.

The neighborhood is filled with landmarks and historically important sights as well as incredible restaurants that bring the flavor of Cuba to South Florida.

Little Havana Food Tour

miami-food-tour-3

It shouldn’t come as a surprise at this point, but this is yet another food tour offered by Miami Culinary Tours.

What should be surprising is how different this excursion is from their other offerings.

You'll visit the heart of Little Havana and While you taste the many flavors of Cuba,  such as empanadas, Cuban sandwiches, mojitos, guarapo juice and more.

Guests have said that tour is an excellent way to discover the neighborhood and learn all about the culture.

  • $69 per person
  • Availability: 12:30 pm Daily

Taste of Little Havana Tour

bike-and-roll-little-havana

This tour is offered by the Bike and Roll company so get ready to pedal off the calories you’ll be taking in.

Discover the sights, sounds, and flavor of Little Havana by bike and learn about the neighborhood from a well-informed tour guide.

Bike and Roll Miami has a 4 ½ star rating on both TripAdvisor and Yelp.

The tour covers as much as 20 miles so if you aren’t in good shape or not comfortable riding a bike, you might want to consider a different option.

That being said, those who were able to make the trip reported having a great time.   Note: children are not recommended due to distance

  • $75/Adults | $65/Students (21 and under)
  • Availability: 10:30 am daily
  • Duration: 3 ½ - 4 hours
  • Bike and helmet included with the ticket.

KEY WEST FOOD TOURS

If you're heading to Key West from Miami, you might want to think about taking a food tour to try out some of the best eats in the area.

This city is more than just a tourist destination, and you'll have an opportunity to try out several unique and interesting dishes on the following outings.

Key West Food Tours

Secret Food Tours Key West

The Southernmost Food and Cultural tour includes 5 stops and a variety of great meals such as conch fritters, fish tacos, and key lime pie.

Each tour includes a guide with dining recommendations in Key West, a collection of recipes to take home, and discounts at certain restaurants.

  • $85.63/Adults | $52.67/Children
  • Availability: Daily at 11:30 am, 12:00 pm, and 3:30 pm

OTHER MIAMI FOOD TOURS

There are some tours of the Miami area that include meals, but they are not specifically food tours.

Instead of getting the opportunity to experience several different flavors from all around the city, you’ll visit one or two restaurants.

If you don’t care too much about sampling food from a variety of places, you might want to consider the Miami to the Max tour offered by the Miami Tour Company.

They are highly rated on TripAdvisor, and this particular tour provides a full meal at a great restaurant. After that meal, you will also visit an ice cream shop and savor the flavor of Cuban coffee.

Miami to the Max will take you through Wynwood, Little Havana, and South Beach, so it’s a pretty good option if a traditional food tour isn’t something that interests you. Alternatively, you could experience the city on your own by taking advantage of the Go City Miami Pass .

With the card, you’ll have access to bike rentals and bus service that will take you to several different locations in Miami.

In addition to this option, you can also use the MetroMover light rail system to get around a 4.4-mile area in the city for free.

We highly recommend trying out a guided tour rather than exploring South Florida on your own, but if you are the adventurous type, make sure to plan out an itinerary before making any excursion.

The original ATM dispensed its first bill of cash in London circa 1967, but leave it to Miami to write its own ATM history with a bit of Floridian flair. In the mid-1990s, Miami Beach’s Citibank had a unique problem to solve: how to provide increasing numbers of in-line skaters with ATM access, when they couldn't get up the bank steps and into the branch. They built a ramp-accessible outdoor ATM so rollerbladers could cruise away with cash without skating into the bank.

best miami beach food tour

Following our USA TODAY Network Florida Dining & Entertainment story about our favorite waterfront restaurants , we turn our attention to the Sunshine State's best beach bars.

While we love relaxing on our famous Florida beaches, we’re even bigger fans of enjoying the same warm and sunny setting while seated at a beach bar in our most casual attire. After all, there’s nothing better than enhancing that toes-in-the-sand experience with a tropical cocktail, fine wine, or ice-cold beer — perhaps paired with a delicious grouper sandwich or "cheeseburger in paradise."

From the Gulf Coast to the Space Coast and the Panhandle to South Florida, here are 10 of our favorite beach bars from around the state, presented in alphabetical order, that we love to recommend for drinks, food, views, and fun!

Beach House

200 Gulf Drive N., Bradenton Beach; 941-779-2222; beachhousedining.com

Beach House lives up to its name by placing guests right on the sugary white sands of Bradenton Beach, overlooking the Gulf of Mexico, on the southern end of Anna Maria Island just south of Tampa Bay. While Beach House offers indoor dining as well as an inside bar, the place to be is on the covered patio area, where you'll find a bar overlooking the public beach.

For libations, consider a glass of Lola, an acclaimed Napa Valley wine whose founder is from Bradenton. Another fine option is Beach House's Category 3 Margarita, featuring house-infused jalapeno silver tequila. As for dining, the restaurant's grouper sandwich is among the best in the Sarasota-Manatee region. You'll also want to consider their signature burger: a thick, juicy patty covered with caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms, smoked Gruyere cheese, and strips of bacon, with lettuce, tomato, and onion on a toasted and buttered bun, worth every extra calorie. — Wade Tatangelo, Florida Region Dining & Entertainment Editor

Benny's On The Beach

10 S. Ocean Blvd., Lake Worth Beach. bennysonthebeac h

Serving locals and visitors for nearly four decades, this beach bar is not located just on the beach, but, depending on where you sit, literally on the water. Situated on the Lake Worth Pier, and open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, this destination offers incredible views paired with fresh seafood, burgers, sandwiches and more. Benny's has a creative and very beachy cocktail menu as well with beverages including Max's Pineapple Colada, made with frozen Parrot Bay Coconut Rum piña colada, served in a fresh-cut pineapple with a Myer’s Dark Rum floater; Florida Lemonade, featuring Tito’s Handmade Vodka, peach schnapps, strawberry purée & fresh-squeezed lemonade; and the Rubber Ducky Punch, made with Cruzan Light Aged Rum, blue curaçao, fresh-pressed pineapple, lime and a toy rubber ducky. — Eddie Ritz, Palm Beach Post

Blue Parrot

68 W. Gorrie Dr., St. George Island; 850-927-2987;  blueparrotsgi.com

Tallahassee residents are just 80 miles away from a beachy paradise. You can walk up to the breezy Blue Parrot from the beach, rinse your feet off on the boardwalk and order a margarita from the deck with a front-row view of the Gulf. Specialty drinks include an Island Girl (coconut run, pineapple juice, OJ, served on the rocks with lemon lime soda), St. George Island Breeze (citrus juices with cherry infused vodka on the rocks) or brave The Sand Blaster. It features mango, blackberry, lime and rum and comes with its own danger warning and 151 floater. "I've been Sandblasted" T-shirts are also available.

Order a dozen raw oysters or smoked yellowfin tuna dip and enjoy the salt air. Blue Parrot also has a covered upper deck and inside dining room where patrons can feast in the shade. Beachy fare includes conch fritters, shrimp baskets, seafood and fish platters, burgers, and the ever popular grouper sandwich. The restaurant is the host of the annual St. George Island Mullet Toss in June. — Martha Gruender, Tallahassee Democrat

Doc’s Beach House

27908 Hickory Blvd., Bonita Springs; 239-992-6444;  docsbeachhouse.com

If you’re looking for a no-frills beach bar and restaurant with spectacular sunset and beach views, this Bonita Beach landmark is for you. While Hurricane Ian raged through the first floor of this family-friendly beachfront favorite of locals and visitors,  the upstairs was completely untouched. As soon as it reopened 14 months later, we were seated at a corner table in that bustling second-floor sports-themed bar area, enjoying ice-cold beer, signature Chicago-style Italian beef sandwiches and a clear view of the beach. We also love the tacos, wings, burgers and crowd-favorite Chicago tavern-style pizza (served after 4 p.m.).

Customers can also walk up from the beach into the completely redone downstairs, with new floors, ceilings and bar. The front patio with thatched roof is another great option at Doc’s, which opened in 1987 and is still cash-only. And lastly, you can get your order to go and eat at one of the first-come, first-served beachside tables for a complete feet-in-the-sand experience. Wherever you sit, Doc’s is one beach bar you don’t want to miss.  — Robyn George, The News-Press

17401 Perdido Key Drive, Perdido Key, 850-492-0611; florabama.com

When a bar's name makes it into a Jimmy Buffett song, you know it has to be pretty iconic. In his song "Bama Breeze," Buffett articulates the memories that took place in the "world famous" beach bar that straddles the Florida-Alabama state line.

"At the Bama Breeze/ I turned 21 down there/ Had too much fun down there/ Stumbled out with the sun down there."

The night Buffett is describing (in the song authored written by Nashville songwriters Mark Irwin, Josh Kear, Chris Tompkins) is a typical one for the Gulf Coast dwellers, who frequent the Flora-Bama for its five stages of live music that you can hear spilling out onto the white sands of the Gulf of Mexico. Even on the hottest Florida day, you can count on the cool relief of a Key Lime Colada or signature Bushwacker, a frozen rum-based, milkshake-like cocktail, which has been a Gulf Coast staple since the 1970s. Not only is the atmosphere immaculate, but the food is a destination of its own with three separate dining areas with different styles and price points.

The Flora-Bama Yacht Club, which falls more on the Alabama side, is known for its fresh seafood and local ingredients. There, you can score everything from small bites, like the char-grilled oysters and "World Famous Gumbo" with Conecuh sausage and Gulf shrimp, to full entrees, like the Blackened Gulf Tripletail with Cajun dirty rice or the eight-ounce, hand-cut filet mignon. Because who says a beach bum can't also indulge in a bougie dinner, right?

In the warmer months, you'll likely be met with a lively crowd or rub shoulders with a famous country artist who finished a concert close by. But some of the most memorable times to visit are during the festivals. Some of the most beloved annual events include the Polar Bear Dip, Mullet Man Triathlon, Interstate Mullet Toss and Beach Party, Flora-Bama Fishing Rodeo, Frank Brown's Songwriters Festival and Flora-Bama's Thanksgiving Potluck. Once you make it once, you become part of the "Bamily," or Flora-Bama family, for life. — Brittany Misencik, Pensacola News Journal

Kane Tiki Bar & Grill

400 S. Collier Blvd., Marco Island; 239-394-2511;  kanetikibarandgrill.com

Scoring a coveted spot on  Southern Living ’s best beach bar list, Collier County’s sole honors went to Kane at the JW Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort. Chef de cuisine Sherene Hutchinson incorporates her Jamaican roots with her fandom of Asian fare to craft dishes matching the vibe of Kane’s sunset fire dancing shows.

What to know? Parking is $15 and a schlep across the street from the steep walkway unless you valet it for $25. Pro tip: If you’re not a resort guest, try parking your chairs near one of the public entrances and walk. Though the dress code is casual, consider a cover-up over your swimsuit, as Marco Island is rather conservative. Also, the beach is quite shell-y, so wear something to protect your feet. Guests are seated on a first-come, first-served basis at what might be the fanciest tiki-chickee hut dining option around. — Diana Biederman, Naples Daily News

2 Lemon St., Neptune Beach,  lemonbarjax.com

It's at the end of Lemon Street and sports bright yellow awnings, so of course it's called the Lemon Bar. The beachfront bar with cold beer, surfboard-themed chairs and a spot right next to a public beachwalk has long been a favorite of Jacksonville-area beachgoers.

It's around the corner from Pete's Bar, another iconic local favorite, in a funky, artsy neighborhood. You'll have to pay to park in the neighborhood, and spots can be scarce at peak times.

It’s located in the beachfront courtyard of the venerable Seahorse Inn, which was purchased in 2022 by Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan.

The Lemon Bar doesn't even have indoor seating. A couple dozen tables are sprinkled around a large concrete-paver deck. Awnings cover the bar, kitchen and a few seats, but nearly all the seats are out in the open, like they should be at a beach bar, with a handful of palm trees providing a bit of shade A small stage stands in one corner of the deck for live entertainment.

Frosty and frozen drinks, not surprisingly, are all over the menu but the Lemon Bar also offers beer on tap or in a can. The menu offers beach bar sort of fare, with tacos, fish sandwiches, burgers and BLTs. —Tom Szaroleta, The Florida Times-Union

Lou’s Blues Bar & Grill

3191 SR A1A, Indialantic, 321-779-2299, LousBluesBarAndGrill

Lou’s Blues is a Space Coast institution. A local favorite for more than two decades, this beachfront bar and grill is known as a fun hang with great burgers, plenty of drinks and live music. If you’re a fan of blue cheese, get Lou’s Blues house made chips covered in melted blue cheese, scallions and balsamic glaze. Be sure to take some time and look around (even above you) to enjoy the eclectic décor. This also is the spot to go if you’re looking to enjoy some karaoke. Pro tip: time your visit around a rocket launch for an even better beachfront view. — Michelle Spitzer, FLORIDA TODAY

Ocean Deck Restaurant and Beach Bar

127 S. Ocean Ave., Daytona Beach; 386-253-5224, oceandeck.com

Ocean Deck is the quintessential beach bar — a go-to offering that toes-in-the-sand, craft cocktail, live entertainment experience that locals enjoy on the regular and vacationers look forward to year after year. The “no shirt, no shoes, no problem” spot sits right on Daytona Beach with dining options ranging from the first-come-first-served outdoor deck to the lower-level bar and nautical upstairs dining room overlooking the Atlantic.

Ocean Deck offers a 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. happy hour Monday – Friday and a lengthy drink menu ranging from 32-ounce Bacardi party buckets to 64-ounce pitchers, tropical mocktails and classic “deck drinks.”

The eatery also offers a range of casual, mainly seafood bites, with several favorites including the fried gator bites, the lemon pepper tossed buffalo wings, the onion- and pickle-layered big daddy burger and Caribbean coconut shrimp. The lively beachfront joint promises live music daily, featuring local bands and DJ’s as well as weekend beach karaoke. — Helena Perray, The Daytona Beach News-Journal

Waldo’s Restaurant & Bar

3150 Ocean Drive, Vero Beach; 772-231-7091; historicwaldos.com

Waldo Sexton built the Driftwood Inn on Ocean Drive in Vero Beach in 1935. Using the timbers of a dairy barn destroyed in a storm, he intended to use it as a family beach house but received requests for rooms because of limited hotel options in the area. It later expanded into the Driftwood Resort with the oceanfront restaurant, which has indoor and outdoor seating, live music on weekends and a guests-only pool in the middle of the wood deck. It’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Try Waldo’s signature chicken salad with pulled white meat, walnuts and special seasonings, served with pasta salad, fresh fruit and homemade beet chips. — Laurie K.
