Frequently Asked Questions

How can i make a booking.

Bookings can be made directly on our website or through various (online) travel agencies. Alternatively, you can buy your ticket at your hotel reception, the local tourist information or at our ticket office in Zurich (subject to availability). Please note that reservations generally require a prepayment of the service. For any enquiries regarding your booking, please do not hesitate to contact us via phone at +41 44 710 50 50 or via email at [email protected] .

How can I cancel or amend my booking?

For cancellations or amendments, please contact your (online) travel agent that originally confirmed your booking. For bookings made on our website, please contact us via phone at +41 44 710 50 50 or via email at [email protected] .

Can I cancel or amend my booking at short notice?

All bookings can be amended or cancelled free of charge up to 24 hours (regular tours) or 48 hours (multi-day tours) prior to the indicated departure time. Cancellations or amendments received less than 24 hours before departure and no-shows on the day will be charged the full tour rate. The same policy applies for bookings made less than 24 hours before departure.

Will tours be cancelled due to bad weather?

All our excursions take place as planned regardless of the weather. Only in the exceptional case that our partners (such as cable car companies) must close lifts or railways for safety reasons, the programme will be amended and an alternative destination will be visited. In case of a price difference, you will receive a partial refund through your (online) travel agency.

Will tours be cancelled if the minimum number of participants is not reached?

In the event that the minimum number of 5 paying adults is not reached, tours will be cancelled with 24 hours notice. In this case, you can either modify your reservation to a different date (free of charge) or tour or request a full refund of your payment.

Will a refund be provided if a tour is missed for medical reasons or due to late arrival?

Cancellations or amendments received less than 24 hours before departure and no-shows on the day will be charged the full tour rate. We strongly recommend having travel insurance covering the cost of the excursions in the event of medical issues or traffic delays.

Will a refund be provided if the weather conditions were unfavourable?

Bookings for regular tours can be modified or cancelled free of charge up to 24 hours prior to departure, allowing you to adjust your itinerary according to the weather forecast. If the tour is operated and you decide not to participate because of the weather, no refund will be provided. We believe that there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing!

Are all tours suitable for children?

Most of our tours are suitable for children, with the following exceptions requiring a minimum age:

  •     Small Group Tours: 6 years (not suitable for infants)
  •     Lucerne & Titlis Snow Experience: 10 years
  •     Swiss Ski Experience: 10 years
  •     Grindelwald First – Top Adventure: 10 years (min. height: 135 cm / min. weight: 35 kg)
  •     Canyoning Adventure in Interlaken: 12 years
  •     Rafting Adventure in Interlaken: 14 years

Are all tours suitable for people with reduced mobility?

As all tours are operated in comfortable travel coaches (or minibuses for small group tours), the walking distance is limited and can generally be kept to a minimum. The visited destinations and their facilities are mainly handicapped accessible, but some on-site attractions may require some walking. Our coaches are not equipped with a ramp for wheelchair users, which is why you must be able to get on and off the bus yourself or with self-organized assistance. If your wheelchair is foldable, it can be stored in the luggage compartment of the coach. We kindly ask you to inform us about any mobility limitations in advance. Please note that the following tours are not suitable for people with reduced mobility:

  • Zurich with Cruise & Lindt Home of Chocolate
  • Rafting or Canyoning Adventure in Interlaken
  • Swiss Ski Experience
  • Lucerne & Titlis Snow Experience
  • Grindelwald First - Top Adventure

Are pets allowed on the tours?

Pets are not allowed on any of our tours. If you are travelling with a guide dog, please contact us in advance.

Do you offer any multi-day packages?

We offer five multi-day packages with one or two overnight stays, which combine two or three of our regular daily excursions. The overnight stay in a three-star hotel with breakfast or half board is included. All offers can be found under Multi-day Tours .

Do you offer private services?

Our aim is to provide our guests with a service of the highest quality. Therefore, we focus on our core business of regular tours and do not offer private tours or other tailor-made services. However, we do offer a selection of small group tours with a more personal touch to destinations off the beaten track.

Do you offer tours in the French-speaking part of Switzerland and neighbouring countries?

We specialize in regular daily excursions from Zürich, Lucerne and Interlaken to the most beautiful destinations in the German-speaking part of Switzerland. For tours in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, we recommend contacting one of the following two Geneva-based tour operators:

  • GVA Transfers

Why should I choose a guided tour with Best of Switzerland Tours over an individual visit?

While it is certainly possible to visit many destinations individually by public transport or rental car, joining a guided tour with Best of Switzerland Tours comes with many advantages:

Commitment to quality : In our more than 20 years of existence, we have constantly improved our services. We are a certified holder of the Q-Quality seal by the Swiss Tourism Federation and very proud of our excellent ratings on social media channels such as TripAdvisor, Facebook and Google. Daily departures : All reservations for regular tours can be modified or cancelled free of charge up to 24 hours prior to departure and our daily departures allow you to adapt your itinerary to the weather conditions and other unexpected circumstances. Preferred access : Avoid wasting precious time in lengthy queues through preferred access granted by our strong partnerships with many destinations. Convenience : We believe that travelling with us is the most convenient way to explore Switzerland. Once aboard the bus, you neither have to worry about train timetables, tickets nor anything else that would keep you from fully enjoying your day. Award-winning tour guides : Our tour guides are the heart of every tour and are willing to go the extra mile every day anew. When travelling with us, you will experience Swiss hospitality at its finest.

Is Best of Switzerland Tours liable for any accidents?

Any liability of Best of Switzerland Tours is limited to the tour price as well as any direct damages caused wilfully or by gross negligence by the tour operator. Guests undertake all activities at their own risk and undertake to inform us of any health problems, if relevant to the tour programme. Adequate health and accident insurance coverage lies in the responsibility of the guest (including supplementary insurance against sports accidents in case of tours with sports activities).

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash payments (on-site purchases) and credit card payments (advance and on-site purchases).

Is there a discount for infants and children?

There are also several possibilities to buy snacks en route or at the destinations. However, please note that food and drinks are not permitted on the bus (except water bottles). Please bring clothing appropriate to the season and be aware that the weather on our mountain excursions may change (see question below). We highly recommend bringing some cash for personal expenses. Although credit cards are widely accepted, some places in mountain regions may only accept cash payment. And of course, your camera is a must to capture your best moments.

What do I need to wear for mountain excursions?

As many of our mountain excursions are at a higher altitude with lower temperatures, we recommend bringing warm clothes (windproof jacket) and shoes with a solid rubber sole to experience all attractions in- and outdoors. Mt. Titlis and Jungfraujoch are both covered in snow all year round. We also recommend bringing sunglasses (also in winter), as the reflection of the sun in the snow can be blinding. While jackets and boots can be rented for a small fee on Mt. Titlis, there is no possibility to rent clothes or shoes on top of Jungfraujoch .

What do I need to bring for adventure tours?

Some of our regular excursions include sport activities. Please bring the special equipment that is required as listed below:

  •     Canyoning or Rafting  Adventure in Interlaken: swimwear and towel
  •      Lucerne & Titlis Snow Experience : warm winter jacket, solid shoes, gloves and snow pants (or a spare pair of jeans to change)
  •     Swiss Ski Experience : all equipment provided (ski, boots, sticks, helmet, ski jackets, pants, gloves)

Are there any risks at altitude that I need to consider?

Altitude sickness occurs very rarely during short stays on the top of mountains, regardless of your age or physical condition. A healthy body has excellent adaptation mechanisms that allow a relatively fast ascent to medium and higher altitudes. If you have any concerns or known medical problems, please consult your doctor before travelling. We do not take liability for any health problems occurring on our tours. Each participant is responsible for her/his own insurance. If you suffer from known medical problems, please contact us in advance, so that we can inform our guides accordingly. If you feel unwell during the tour, please inform your guide or a local staff member at the destination.

For our mountain excursions , especially to Jungfraujoch, it is important to:

  • wear warm clothes for destinations above 1500 m a.s.l. (even in summer)
  • drink enough water
  • eat something before the start of your tour or on a break
  • move and breathe slowly

Are there toilets available on the bus?

There are no toilets on the bus. On our half-day and full-day excursions, there will be several toilet stops en route.

Is there Wi-Fi available on the bus?

While Wi-Fi is available on our minibuses that are mainly used for small group tours, we cannot guarantee a stable internet connection on our travel coaches.

Can I charge my phone or camera on the bus?

Please note that there are usually no (USB) power outlets on the bus. If you need to charge your mobile phone or camera during the tour, we recommend bringing a mobile power bank with you.

Can I store my personal luggage on the bus?

With exception of the tours listed below, bigger items can be stored safely in the luggage compartment of the coach during the day, whilst smaller items can be stored on the bus. Even if your luggage is safely stored inside the bus, we recommend keeping your valuables with you at all times. Please make sure to retrieve your luggage after the tour as we do not take liability for lost items. If you book a small group tour, please contact us in advance to enquire if there is enough space in the minibus.

Exceptions: Zurich with Cruise & Lindt Home of Chocolate: As you will end the tour at Zurich HB (main train station) by public transport, we highly recommend storing your luggage at the main train station (lockers available from CHF 5.- for 6 hours). Zurich City Tour with Lake Cruise: As you will end the tour at Bürkliplatz, we highly recommend storing your luggage at your hotel or at Zurich HB (main train station, lockers available from CHF 5.- for 6 hours). Multi-day tours: Please be aware that you must be able to transfer your luggage from the bus to public transport and on to your hotel. We therefore recommend that you take only part of your luggage with you and deposit the rest at your hotel in Zurich or Lucerne.

What can I do if I lose my group or guide during the tour?

Please call us as soon as possible at +41 44 710 50 50, so that we can help you find back to your group or guide.

Can I use a drone for photos and film recordings on tours?

The use of a drone is permitted in compliance with the legal requirements of the Swiss Federal Office for Civil Aviation (BAZL). Only drones weighing less than 0.25 kg and without camera or other sensor are allowed without registration. Please find further information about the use of drones on the official website .

What is the rule of conduct to follow on the bus?

You can contribute to the success of our tours by considering the following 5 guidelines:

Be prepared : Please read the information provided carefully and get yourself organized before departure.

Be punctual : Please listen to the instructions of your tour guide and respect the schedule.

Respect other guests' privacy : Please have the courtesy to mute your phone, listen to your music with headphones, avoid lengthy phone calls and chat at an appropriate volume.

Respect personal boundaries : Please consider cultural differences in small talk with fellow travellers and avoid sensitive topics.

Expect the unexpected : Thank you for remaining calm and patient when your tour guide has to amend the original programme due to traffic conditions, the weather or other unpredictable circumstances.

After the tour

Is it common to pay gratuities.

Gratuities are voluntary in Switzerland. If you are happy with the experience on the excursion and the service of your guide and driver, a tip as a gesture of appreciation is always welcome.

Where can I leave a review for the tour?

We highly appreciate your feedback as it helps us to constantly improve our high-quality services and to ensure that our tours exceed our guests' expectations. Please contact us directly at [email protected] or leave a review on our official Tripadvisor , Facebook or Google page or with your (online) travel agency. We look forward to seeing your best moments on tour on Instagram (#bestofswitzerlandtours)!

I left something in the bus - what can I do?

Please call us as soon as possible at +41 44 710 50 50. If the lost item is found, you can pick it up the next day at the tourist information (in Zurich) or at our meeting point (in Lucerne/Interlaken).

A "carry-on bag" may be a soft-sided daypack, purse, backpack, tote bag, or the like. Because we value our guests' safety, small rolling suitcases or bags with telescopic handles are not permitted. In order to guarantee a smooth trip, guests are not permitted to store an additional "carry-on" bag beneath the coach with the luggage.

So your driver and any hotel porters can safely lift and transport your suitcase throughout your vacation, we strongly recommend that you test the weight of your baggage prior to travel. You should be able to lift and comfortably transport it for short distances.

Baggage allowances vary from airline to airline, and you should check with your chosen carrier for details prior to travel.

Packing Tips for Your Tour

Packing for a guided tour will vary depending on the duration of the trip, the time of year, and the activities planned. Here is a general packing list to help you get started:

Passport and Travel Documents : Ensure you have your passport , travel insurance , and any necessary travel documents.

  • Comfortable walking shoes: Cobblestone streets and uneven terrain require comfortable footwear.
  • Lightweight, breathable clothing: Pack clothes suitable for the season. Bring a mix of short-sleeved tops, lightweight pants or skirts, and a few long-sleeved options for cooler evenings for the summer months, and long-sleeved and heavier layers for early Spring, Fall, and Winter.
  • Layers: It's advisable to bring a light jacket or sweater and a scarf for layering, especially in Spring or Fall.
  • Nice evening wear: You may wish to wear a dressier outfit if you plan on dining in an elegant restaurant, for example. Smart-casual clothes are usually acceptable for all included daytime and evening activities throughout your tour.
  • Rain Gear: Depending on the season and the countries you're visiting, it's a good idea to pack a compact rain jacket or umbrella.

Sun Protection:

  • Hat, sunglasses, UV-protective clothing.
  • Sunscreen with high SPF. If you're visiting any coastal areas, bring reef-safe sunscreen formulated without harmful chemicals known to be damaging to coral reefs and marine life. Traditional sunscreens often contain ingredients like oxybenzone and octinoxate, which have been found to contribute to coral bleaching and negatively impact marine ecosystems. Look for sunscreens with certifications such as "Reef Safe," "Coral Safe," or "Ocean-Friendly" to ensure they are environmentally friendly .

Medications and First Aid:

  • Any prescription medications you need. (See more below under Health & Wellness)
  • Basic first aid kit with adhesive bandages, antiseptic wipes, pain relievers, etc.

Toiletries:

  • Travel-sized toiletries, including shampoo, conditioner, soap, and toothpaste.
  • Travel towel (quick-drying and compact).
  • Hand sanitizer and wet wipes.
  • A washcloth and carry bag (often not available in hotels abroad).

Electronics:

  • A camera: You’re traveling to see extraordinary scenery and sites. So that you don't miss a single moment, bring a trustworthy camera. Check out our travel photography tips for capturing the best photos of your trips. If you feel comfortable, you can also try the camera on your phone . However, if you want to zoom in or capture moving objects, a camera might be your best bet.
  • Mobile phone.
  • Chargers for each electronic you bring.
  • Travel adapter and/or voltage converter
  • Portable power bank for charging devices on the go.
  • Small travel hair dryer (make sure you have the correct converter and adapter).

Miscellaneous:

  • A travel-friendly daypack or bag to carry your essentials during excursions.
  • Insect repellent.
  • Reusable water bottle. At GET, we’re all about caring for our planet , and with that in mind, we always recommend that you pack a reusable water bottle for your trip. Bringing your own reusable water bottle or asking for tap water at restaurants means you can make a difference by reducing your vacation plastic waste.
  • A small travel alarm.
  • A travel iron if you like your clothes to be pressed.
  • A travel pillow.
  • Scarf or shawl for visiting religious sites or to cover up in conservative areas.
  • Light sleepwear.
  • A new, blank journal to document your trip. Don't know your travel journal style? Find out here !
  • Ziplock bags (storing snacks, toiletries, and keeping things organized).

Remember to pack light and versatile items that can be mixed and matched for different outfits. Laundry facilities are often available, or you can have your clothes laundered at hotels during your trip. It's also a good idea to pack a small bag or backpack to bring on the coach for day trips and excursions, leaving your larger luggage at the hotel.

Electricity

American appliances run on 110-120 volts at 60 Hz, while European appliances run on 220-230 volts at 50 Hz.

As a result, American appliances designed for use in the United States (typically 120 volts at 60 Hz) may not be directly compatible with the higher voltage used in European countries. Plugging a 120-volt appliance into a 220-240-volt outlet without the appropriate voltage converter or transformer can cause damage to the appliance or pose safety risks.

If you plan to bring American appliances to Europe, you will need a voltage converter or transformer to change the voltage to 220-240 volts from 110 volts. Additionally, you will likely need a plug adapter to fit the American-style plug into the European power outlets. All of Europe operates on the same two round-pronged outlets (Type C).

It's important to note that not all appliances are compatible with voltage converters, so it's essential to check the labels or user manuals of your devices before using them with a voltage converter. Some electronic devices, such as laptops, smartphones, and camera chargers, are dual voltage and can support 120V and 220-240V, so they may not require a voltage converter, but a plug adapter will still be necessary.

To avoid any issues with electrical compatibility during your travels, consider purchasing appliances specifically designed for the voltage used in the region you'll be visiting or use appropriate voltage converters and plug adapters to ensure the safe operation of your American appliances in Europe.

We recommend purchasing an adapter with a voltage converter so you can pack less. And to pick up any necessary adapters or converters for your electronic devices before departing on your guided tour and bringing them with you.

Hair Dryers in Your Hotel

Hair dryers are common accessories in hotels. Should you want to bring your own, though, you will need to bring an adapter and voltage converter or make sure it is dual voltage by checking the label for INPUT AC 120V - 240V or a switch that can be set to 125V or 250V. Many devices have this feature, so it's worth checking before you travel. If you need a hair dryer during your trip but can't find one in your hotel room, you can inquire with the hotel staff. Many hotels will be able to provide a hair dryer upon request, either at the front desk or through housekeeping.

Air Conditioning

Air conditioning is commonly available in European hotels, restaurants, and public spaces, especially in major cities and tourist areas, but it is worth noting that the settings will differ from what you are used to in the USA.

However, it's important to note that not all accommodations or historic buildings may have air conditioning, particularly in more traditional or rural settings. Most hotels in Europe can provide a portable fan for additional room cooling if requested. Your Travel Director will be on hand to assist you throughout your trip.

Traveling by coach

Our modern air-conditioned coaches have been selected with your comfort in mind. Your Travel Director will familiarize you with all the onboard features, including a washroom fitted for your convenience and comfort. Regular stops are made to stretch your legs, take refreshments, fill up your water bottles, and use the facilities.

Airport transfers

Airport transfers to and from the airport on the first and last days of your tour are complimentary only if you are traveling on a tour operated by Trafalgar, Insight Vacations, or Luxury Gold, and   your flight times coincide with the shuttle-coach transfer timings. Learn more about Airport Transfers here .

To enable you to personalize your tour experience, you will find a number of Optional Experiences designed to complement the itinerary. These are designed to offer a deeper insight into the culture and character of the areas to be visited and provide some wonderful highlights to your travels. The optional program is designed to let you experience more of what interests you and to get the most from your vacation without replacing or overlapping with anything included in an itinerary.

The majority of Optional Experiences will be offered to you by your Travel Director at the beginning of your trip. Some may be subject to change, depending on the time you are traveling or local circumstances, including weather and days of the week. Your Travel Director will provide further information.

Usually, most Optional Experiences will be priced in the local currency, but please read through the details of individual optional experiences for specific information. Exact payment options will be advised locally by your Travel Director/Local Representative for each Optional Experience, but in many cases, cash, Visa, MasterCard, and American Express are all accepted.

It is recommended to have travel insurance that covers medical expenses while abroad.

In order to ensure a healthy and enjoyable trip, we strongly suggest that you pack a plentiful supply of any medication you may need while on vacation. Here’s what you need to know about traveling with medications .

Prior to traveling, please notify GET of any disability requiring special assistance or any specific dietary needs that you may have, and we will strive to accommodate these.

It's essential to ensure that your routine vaccinations are up-to-date before traveling to any destination. Routine vaccinations may include vaccinations for measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, and influenza.

When traveling with GET, baggage handling at hotels, service charges, and tips for hotel wait staff (for included meals) will all be taken care of by your Travel Director. There are, however, a few instances where individual tipping is welcome.

Local Specialists

It is customary to show appreciation for the insights, stories, and know-how shared with you by the Local Specialists, and we suggest a gratuity equivalent to $1.00-$2.00 USD per person per half day.

Your Coach Driver and Travel Director

The trip cost does not include gratuities for your Travel Director and Driver. At the end of your trip, you may express appreciation to your Travel Director and Driver for their excellent service and the personal attention you received. Gratuities are given at the discretion of each guest, and a suggested amount per person/per day is listed in your travel documents.

For your convenience and ease, there is an option to pre-pay gratuities for the Travel Director and Driver at the time of booking.

Hotel services

It is customary to tip hotel staff for room service delivery if the charge has not already been added to the bill. Where ice machines are not available, and you receive ice from the bar, a small tip to the bartender is always appreciated.
