Recent tour reviews

These guys are wonderful. We had a great time and the show was one of the best I've ever seen. This was the second time we have have seen BBVD and it was better than the last time. I would definitely recommend this band.

Fantastic show! BBVD had great energy and looked like they were having as much fun as the audience! It was a swinging great time!!!! Great date night time with my wife!

Having seen BBVD in August of last year at a lesser venue we were pleased that we would see them at The Heights Theater. The performance was wonderful and we were treated to three songs that will be on their next album coming out this summer.

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy

Wild and swingin' holiday party, event information.

Swing band Big Bad Voodoo Daddy have announced they are bringing their holiday show to Taft Theatre on December 20 .

Since its formation in the early nineties in Ventura, California, the band has toured virtually nonstop, performing on average over 150 shows a year, and has produced a sizable catalog of recorded music, with sales of over 2 million albums to date. Early on, during their legendary residency at the Derby nightclub in Los Angeles, they reminded the world, in the midst of the grunge era no less, that it was still cool to swing. The band, cofounded by singer Scotty Morris and drummer Kurt Sodergren, was at the forefront of the swing revival of that time, blending a vibrant fusion of the classic American sounds of jazz, swing, and dixieland, with the energy and spirit of contemporary culture.

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s all original core line-up includes Scotty Morris (lead vocals and guitar), Kurt Sodergren (drums), Dirk Shumaker (double bass and vocals), Andy Rowley (baritone saxophone and vocals), Glen "The Kid" Marhevka (trumpet), Karl Hunter (saxophones and clarinet) and Joshua Levy (piano and arranger).

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s efforts to promote and revitalize swing music have taken shape as much more than a simple tribute. Taking inspiration from the creators of this uniquely American art form, the band’s original horn-infused music and legendary high energy show introduces the genre to a new and younger generation while remaining cognizant and respectful of the music’s rich legacy.

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy's first phase of stardom featured an appearance in the 1996 indie film Swingers, a movie that not only launched the careers of Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau, but introduced Big Bad Voodoo Daddy to an audience beyond their Los Angeles base. The band's music has appeared in countless films and television shows, including The Wild, Despicable Me, Phineas & Ferb, Friends, Third Rock From The Sun, Ally McBeal, and So You Think You Can Dance. They have appeared live on Dancing With The Stars, Late Night With Conan O’Brien, NBC’s Christmas in Rockefeller Center, The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, a remarkable seven appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and the Super Bowl XXXIII Halftime Show.

BAY HARBOR, MI - A unique mix of musical talent makes up the summer and fall concert headliners who are set to play the Great Lakes Center for the Arts in the waterfront Bay Harbor community.

The venue, south of Petoskey and just steps away from Little Traverse Bay, is calling the upcoming concert series “A Season for Dreamers.” Highlights will include performances by The Temptations and The Four Tops, the Broadway sensation Mamma Mia!, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Christ Botti and LeAnn Rimes.

The full season runs May through October. Subscription packages are already on sale. Single ticket sales will happen in waves beginning: May 1, June 1 and July 1.

“Opening weekend at the Center is always a celebration, and this summer is no exception,” said the center’s executive director, Matthew Kacergis. “We’re kicking it off with the legendary Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Hailing from the heart of the French Quarter of New Orleans, this ensemble has been the heartbeat and soundtrack of The Big Easy for more than 60 years.”

There’s even a little Disney magic being featured this summer.

“While I am looking forward to all of the events in the upcoming season, I am especially excited about a special project premiering in June,” Kacergis said. “‘When You Wish’ will be a soaring musical tribute to 100 years of magic with original arrangements of Disney’s greatest hits created just for the Center. Patrons of all ages are invited to relive the moments that shaped our childhoods and taught us to dream. We have a few surprises planned that will make for a very memorable experience for the whole family.”

If you become a season subscriber - even if you pick just three events to attend - you still get the perks of concessions and ticket discounts, complementary seating and more.

Subscriptions became available to the general public as of April 1. Single tickets will be released according to the following schedule:

  • May 1: Purchase tickets for events occurring May 26 through July 13
  • June 1: Purchase tickets for events occurring July 20 through Sept. 1
  • July 1: Purchase tickets for events occurring Sept. 7 through Oct. 26

For more details, see the center’s website here, or call the box office at (231) 439-2610.

Bay Harbor’s waterfront development is a great place to explore. The Inn at Bay Harbor is just a short walk away from the GLCA. There’s also a little shopping district with restaurants and a waterfront bar and marina. And one of our favorite carb stops, Maple + Batter, is located here.
