Can you fast travel with boats in Witcher 3?

How to fast travel on pc, how to fast travel on ps4, witcher 3: how to sail.

Boats are one of the most common means of transport in the game. They are used for sailing across the map. However, when boats are damaged, they can sink. On the other hand, boats are also used in the game for fast traveling, but only to destinations next to a water body.

For your character to fast travel , open the World Map and select travel to any point marked with an anchor symbol.

To fast travel, board the boat and then take the helm by pressing E. to move forward, press W. to fast travel, press the world map and tap on the point next to the sea which you would like to travel and place the anchor symbol next to it . You will be taken to the place in an instant.

To board a boat, walk right onto them. X is for taking the helm, and O is for leaving the helm. Use the left joystick to steer the boat and X to accelerate.

To use a boat for fast traveling, open the World Map and press on any destination marked with an anchor , and you will be able to fast travel.

Sailing a boat is smooth but risky since there are many threats at sea. For starters, your character should avoid shallow waters because the boat may be damaged and sink after regular damage from rocks in shallow places.

Also, players should be careful that the place where they are docking is not shallow since it may cause damage, or the boat may not be able to sail again if grounded on the shallow shores.

Another risk is there are Drowners and Sirens in the water. To prevent your characters from drowning by sea monsters, they have no option but to multitask by steering and defending the boat using a crossbow.

They can shoot a crossbow while steering at the boat’s helm using the R1 button on their controller. Because sailing makes Geralt less deadly, he must approach all threats using the same technique of firing with a crossbow.

The crossbow has an auto-aim feature that enables accurate shooting of enemies. Also, watch out for any hostiles by looking at the map. Enemies will be shown with red dots. Additionally, sound can also help your character identify any hostiles. Typically, you will hear loud water splashes when sirens or drowners emerge from the water and begin rocking your boat.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Is Getting Official Mod Support

Destiny 2 making exciting change to stasis subclass, ea reportedly considering implementing in-game ads in aaa titles.

The Witcher 3 is a phenomenal RPG with an expansive open world that keeps players returning for more. While The Witcher 3 has a massive map, riding from one place to another can become tiring, especially since players are bound to come across enemies and obstacles along the way. Fortunately, players can solve this problem via the fast travel mechanic.

Whether players want to head to a new quest or find an armor set , moving from one location to another can be time-consuming unless they use the fast travel mechanic. Fortunately, fast traveling is easy once players know how it works. Keeping this in mind, this guide will explain how players can fast travel in The Witcher 3 , along with other useful information.

CD Projekt Red announces the release of official mod support for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, hinting at the date it will be out.

How to Unlock Fast Travel

Players will unlock the fast travel mechanic early in the game when they arrive at the first signpost in White Orchard . Geralt arrives at White Orchard with Vessemir, which serves as the first playable area in the game.

The game has 228 signposts, serving as fast travel locations. To find and use a signpost, players must find each and every one of them. Once a signpost has been discovered, it will be marked with a green signpost icon on the map.

How to Fast Travel by Land and Sea

Players can use the fast travel mechanic by following these simple steps:

  • Walk up to a signpost.
  • Interact with the signpost.
  • Once the map pops up, select a signpost to the desired location.
  • After a loading screen, players will stand in front of the signpost of their selected location.

Players cannot fast travel while in combat.

On the flip side, fast traveling by sea is a bit different. To fast travel by sea, follow these steps:

  • Players must make sure they are on a boat .
  • Open the map.
  • Select a harbor represented by an anchor icon to fast travel to the desired location.

While players will need to find harbors to use them for fast travel, many are available for use from the get-go.

Fast travel is incredibly useful when going back to complete missed quests. The world of The Witcher 3 may be vast, but the fast travel mechanic saves players time while exploring.

How To Fast Travel In The Witcher 3:

The Witcher 3 has a huge world and getting through it can take alot of time if you don’t know how to travel properly. Getting from Point A to Point B will be a breeze once you learn how to fast travel in the Witcher 3!

How To Fast Travel In The Witcher 3

To start off with you cannot just fast travel anytime, anywhere. If you look at your map you will see some green signs on the map in various places. These are the places you can fast travel to. In order to fast travel you will also need to use one of these signs. So basically you run up to a sign, interact with it and then pick your destination and wait for it to load. You will have to run around your first time through though and get all the travel points. The horse does very well on the road if you need to ride to a point.

Boats are a little bit different. While you are in a boat you can just travel to any of the fast travel points you have unlocked for boats. The boat travel points are anchors instead of signs. Once you have an anchor unlocked just use your map and click the anchor to travel to it. Like the sign posts though you are going to have to search for them and they are everywhere.

How To Fast Travel In The Witcher 3

Reduce your daily steps by fast traveling to places instead of walking.

The Witcher 3 Fast Travel

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt features a massive open world that runs for around 88 square miles. It is going to take you at least half an hour to ride from one end to the other, and that is provided there are no obstacles or enemies in the way.

This is where fast traveling comes into play. There are numerous signposts scattered across different parts of the map. These signposts help you fast-travel to another location in The Witcher 3 and save crucial time that can then be spent on completing quests or finding gear such as the Wolven armor set .

How to unlock fast travel in The Witcher 3

You will unlock the fast-travel feature early on in the game. You will discover your first signpost as soon as you reach White Orchard with Vesemir, which is the first playable area in the game, following the tutorial section.

There are 228 signposts (which serve as fast travel points) to find and use in the game. Once you discover a new signpost during your travels in The Witcher 3, the fast-travel location will be marked on your map with a green signpost icon. These will help you to find the closest fast-travel location in case of emergency, albeit you cannot fast-travel if you are in combat.

Interacting with a signpost will open up the map. You then need to select another signpost to fast-travel to. When done, you will start from the selected signpost location. Depending on your platform, there might be a short loading screen that should last up to a minute. On next-gen platforms such as the PS5, the loading screen lasts for mere seconds.

With the next-gen update, there is now a new fast travel signpost in the game, inside the castle at Crow’s Perch. However, you need to complete Bloody Baron’s questline to be able to use the Crow’s Perch/Castle Village signpost in The Witcher 3.

boat fast travel witcher 3

Keep in mind that you can only fast-travel to signposts that have been discovered, meaning that you will need to first physically visit each signpost before they become available for fast travel.

How to Fast Travel by sea in The Witcher 3

You can also fast-travel by sea, but that works a bit differently. You need to find harbors instead of signposts which are marked with anchor signs on the map. Once you are in a boat, you can open the map and find these anchor signs, and this way, you will be able to avail the Witcher 3 fast travel by boat option.

You can also find boats elsewhere on the shores. They are not exclusive to harbors. Open the map and click on any harbor that you have discovered to fast-travel there.

Furthermore, if you sail to the edges of the explorable seas, you can open the map to fast-travel to any harbor or signpost in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Fast travel to certain areas like Kaer Morhen and Skellige becomes available as you progress through the story.

In certain cases, it may seem like fast travel isn’t working, but this problem isn’t a bug and can be isolated to two things. Firstly, make sure you have a discovered signpost so you can use it to travel to where you need to go, and secondly, make sure you don’t have signpost visibility turned off in the map filter section.

The Witcher 3 Fast Travel from Anywhere mod

The Fast Travel From Anywhere mod can break those lengthy journeys on your quest and will enable you to travel fast to any particular location without a signpost. In short, you will be able to teleport out of caves, buildings, etc., with relative ease.

The fast travel from anywhere mod in TW3 , essentially allows you to travel to wherever you need to go without having to seek out a signpost fast travel point. For the next-gen update of the game, there is a separate fast travel mod that you can find on Nexusmods. You can download the Fast Travel From Anywhere (next-gen) mod for the Next Gen update in The Witcher 3

Alternatively, you can use console commands to teleport yourself to specific coordinates or locations. To do this, simply open the console command box by pressing the ‘~’ key and typing in xy(x, y), where you would replace the x and y in the brackets with coordinates.

Type in goto(place) in the command console of The Witcher 3 to fast travel to any location you choose. It doesn’t even have to be a signpost! For example, writing gotoKaerMorhen will allow you to fast travel to Kaer Morhen and teleport you to the keep entrance.

Exploring all the areas of The Witcher 3 and unlocking at least 100 signposts for fast travel earns you the Globetrotter achievement, so it is worth exploring just for the achievement.

The Witcher 3: How To Fast Travel

The world of The Witcher 3 is massive, so you'll want to take advantage of these fast travel tips in order to quickly reach your destination.

The Witcher 3   world is huge, there's no two ways about it. Only counting Novigrad, Velen, and Skellige, it was concluded to be around 136 square kilometers, which is at least 3.7 times bigger than GTA: San Andreas  and 3.5 times bigger than Skyrim .  This excludes more locations, such as White Orchard and Toussaint. So, how do you get from Point A to Point B without wasting a lot of time?

First off, "wasting time" is a concept almost unheard of in this game. Even if you're resigned to riding Roach to get to your destination — or even traveling on foot — you're bound to enjoy the scenery, especially if you're in Toussaint or on Skellige. But if you've already discovered the location you have to go to, you can always fast travel to it later by going up to a signpost and interacting with it, which opens up the world map, letting you choose another signpost anywhere in the world and teleporting you to it.

RELATED:  Witcher 3: 15 Abilities Players Need To Level Up First

Signposts are usually found just at the entrance to a community — like a city, village, or even some camps — but also in other places throughout the world such as crossroads. An exception to this rule is traveling to the edge of the map, where the game warns you that you have nowhere further to go, so the map interface opens and lets you travel to any signpost in the world.

Fast traveling is also possible at sea, if you're in a boat and merrily sailing along. All you have to do is open the map and select a previously discovered harbor, shown as an anchor. A number of harbors come "pre-discovered" on the map so you don't have to sweat it too much, considering boat travels are not likely to make up a lot of your game time. A similar thing happens at the edge of the map with a boat, as well — the game lets you teleport to any known harbor in order to get back into the playable areas.

The Witcher 3  is the first game in the franchise to feature fast traveling, to the delight of many fans who have played the previous installments and have had to make the long, painful trek between the swamp and Vizima in the first game, making the gameplay much longer and even less enjoyable than it should have been. Still, it must be noted that the third game also features a significant increase in game area. Now that you know exactly how to travel around the Continent, you can do so at your own leisure — and take the long way only if you want to.

The Fast travel system is a mechanic introduced in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt due to the significant increase in explorable areas. It enables Geralt to "teleport" between two already discovered signposts, or to a discovered harbor if he is sailing on a boat. Geralt can also jump to a signpost located in another game region and this takes more loading time.

Additionally, if Geralt wanders to the very edge of the explorable game areas, the map interface will appear allowing him to fast travel to any signpost or harbor (if he is at sea).

Harbors are used as fast-travel points in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt . They are scattered about the regions and are functionally identical to a Signpost , though they can only be utilized if the player is sailing in a boat (i.e. if the player is just standing in a boat, harbors won't appear on the map).

The Witcher 3 fans discover they've been fast travelling wrong for years

The Witcher 3 fans discover they've been fast travelling wrong for years

Geralt's poor feet....

Emma Flint

We don’t know what to think anymore – just when we're certain we know all there is to know about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt , something new pops up.

Some of you might already know about this fast travel feature, but there are some of us that were genuinely surprised to learn we’ve been travelling wrong.

This isn’t quite as big a find as the awesome hidden loot room , but it’s still worth knowing.

Did you know that you can fast travel via boats?

Geralt is at the top of his game in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

A shocked Witcher player took to Reddit to reveal it’s taken them over 200 hours of gameplay to learn this.

“Man. Would have made lots of quests easier (Isle of Mists especially). There are 'harbours' on the world map that you can use to fast travel while in a boat. Even between locations on the world map,” they shared.

Before you come for this surprised individual, they do admit that they may have just been an “idiot” and missed the information that revealed this crucial detail.

Seemingly, they’re not alone in not knowing this.

“Wait, what???” asked a fellow fan also taken aback by this new information.

That same person added, “[It’s] possible to play this thing five times and miss things... shakes head.”

Don't shake your head but rejoice that even after all this time, there’s still much to uncover in the world of monster hunting!

If you’re someone who is certain they’ve searched every inch of The Witcher 3 and are eager to embark on new adventures, Geralt is about to begin his scariest yet.

A surprise story expansion is coming later this month, and it promises to throw Geralt into a world he isn’t familiar with.

CD Projekt Red has us hungry for the new Witcher title, though we’ve still got some time on our hands before we get to play it.

Still, we’re hopeful that it won’t disappoint. Especially if it has as many secrets as The Witcher 3 .

The Witcher 3 just got a new mod that allows you to ride a Griffin

Modder ‘apokryphos’ has released a pretty cool mod for The Witcher 3 that allows you to summon and ride a Griffin. This mod will allow you to travel quickly and explore the world of TW3, without actually using a fast travel.

The Griffin is the first boss players encounter in The Witcher 3. So, a mod that actually makes it possible to ride one somehow makes sense. Not only that but it’s cool flying around so that you can get to your destination. At least in my opinion.

Those interested can download the mod from this link . At the end of the article, you can also find a video for it. This video will give you an idea of what you can expect from it. So, be sure to watch it.

To be honest, I was expecting CDPR to add something like that in the Next-Gen Update. It’s a cool concept, so I don’t know why they haven’t implemented it. Still, thanks to mods, PC gamers can experience this.

I also expect even crazier mods to come out later this year. Last month, CD Projekt RED announced the first Playtest for The Witcher 3 REDkit Modding Tools . The Witcher 3 REDkit is a comprehensive modding tool for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It is based on the same set of tools that were used by the devs to create the game and should allow for nearly limitless freedom in modding it.

Speaking of The Witcher 3 Next-Gen, you may also want to take a look at these other mods for it. For instance, you can download a really cool  first-person mod . Furthermore, the  Characters Reworked Project  improves the quality of over 100 characters. Yesterday, we shared a  must-have gameplay overhaul mod . Let’s also not forget this mod that  lets you kill most in-game NPCs . In December 2023, we shared  this mod  that restores content that was cut from all previous The Witcher games. Then we have the  Witcher 3 Next-Gen Combat Redux Mod . Earlier this month, we shared a  mod that attempted to remove the fake “hero” light  from the game’s cut-scenes.

We also have some mods for those playing with Ray Tracing. The  RTX Mirrors Mod  adds proper reflections to the game’s mirrors. Then we have this  mod that improves the fire effects via Ray Tracing Global Illumination . And finally, this  mod fixes the Ray Tracing bleach issues .

Stay tuned for more!
