Caledonian travel London Spectacular trip

Just returned from a four night stay in the Britannia International hotel in London’s dockland area. This was our third mini break with Caledonian travel and we have thoroughly enjoyed each one, particularly as they are such good value for money. In this instance, we had a wonderful coach driver, Walter, who must be commended for his adept and safe driving skills, along with his ability to communicate with his passengers. He hit just the correct balance of being entertaining with his stories, providing little pieces of local history during the long journey, offering valuable information, both on the safety and facilities of the coach and also about our forthcoming stay at the hotel. He also took the time to get to know his passengers by name and, by the end of the trip, we feel that we have almost made a ‘new friend’. He also provided some on-board entertainment in the way of a dvd and some recorded music during the journeys, but it was never intrusive….just enough to break the time up in a pleasant way, if you wanted to ‘tune in’. All in all, we had wonderful few days away. We will definitely travel with Caledonian Travel in the future and, once again, we wish to thank Walter for adding just that little bit extra to an already brilliant holiday.

Just came back from the highland hotel Scotland that caladonian use .I paid a single person supplement expecting a double room when I arrived was given the smallest single room available terrible I went to reception told them I paid a supplement will I get my money back .I was informed caladonian do this all the time my sister had been put in a small double room to share a bed with her daughter we all complained they got a small twin I got the smallest single rooms very dated food everything was very bland.we have always went with Gardeners who were excellent.will definitely never go with caladonian again .the Driver Jason was great fun and fantastic with the customers and asset to any company.

We used Caledonian travel to go to Leeds to see strictly come dancing traveling from north east. The coach driver was friendly and informative, the only thing that was ok about the trip. The bus was late to pick up but there was a train strike that day so could be excused. We had booked thinking it was straight to Leeds and transfer to and from show with a one night stay over and shopping in York on way home. On way we stopped at Harrogate which would have been ok if we had known prior as I had 2 elderly relatives whose mobility is not great and we stopped for over 2 hours it was poor weather and couldn’t walk far with them so a lot of waiting around and bus was again late to pick up here. We were then told the coach could not take us to the show on the night time we would have to be dropped off about a 20 -25 Minute walk from the venue!!!!! My mother and mother-in-law can not even walk for 5 minutes. The coach driver said should be able to get a taxi we’re he was dropping us off!! Should be able to!!! So worrying what do I do with my 2 elderly relatives take a risk of finding a taxi!?! Later we were told we would be able to be dropped off at venue!!! The driver had been informed of somewhere else he could park close to the venue!! Surely as a booked show trip is it not the companies responsibility to ensure they can get the people to the show that is what you are booking for!!!! When we eventually got to hotel ( I would use that word loosely as more like a hostel) we had very little time to get in room and get ready as evening meal was 5 and had to leave at 6 for the travel to the show which was 20 minute drive. The checkin was quick as done on coach however we had to wait as to swap rooms as we had booked a twin and allocated a double. We were given a family room. The room itself left a lot to be desired dirty and old with filthy windows and mouldy bathroom!! We went for evening meal at 5 as told we needed to for bus leaving at 6 however it was like a scene from faulty towers queues everywhere and no one knowing what was going on!! Queue took 40 minutes for the most horrendous slop I have ever seen for a hotel!!! Had 20 minutes to eat a 3 course meal however time wasn’t an issue as nothing really you would eat!!! So settled for a plate of lettuce cucumber and tomato with chips looked the safest option!! The show was excellent. However we were told we could not request seats at r special disability seating however found others had been able to book these. The worse of the experience was still to come the horrendous people in the room next door who shouted / talked all night swearing and being aggressive which was frightening for my elderly relative! After complaining to night Porter he then came and asked them to keep noise down but just made them worse and they proceeded to make louder noise and threaten they would get whoever reported them!! Banging headboard off wall and screaming. Nothing more was done by the hotel!! After no sleep I discussed with receptionist next morning only to be told oh we know who they are they were aggressive with the night porter!! And then said we could change rooms if we were staying - fortunately we weren’t however still not the response I would have expected!! The receptionist indicated the people in next room were longer stay being housed there. The sound of female was a local accent and male was northeast accent they were also joined by a second male during the night!! I was pleased to get on bus to come home. The stop of at York was nice and driver was friendly. I am posting this review to warn others of the poor facilities / hotels Caledonian are using I would not have stayed if there was any other option and the fact my elderly relatives could not be moved during the night and had to just be hauled up in a room scared by verbally aggressive people in the next room not knowing what they were capable of. I will be raising concern with Caledonian and Hays travel who the trip was booked through!

Reliable company. I feel safe with them. Brilliant value breaks, can't be beaten on choices. It would be rude not to book another wee trip

I booked with Caledonian Travel for the Harry Potter weekend and it was amazing. The hotel was great and so was the food. Gordon (driver) was fantastic. He kept us up to date about where we were, when we'd be stopping and roughly when we would get to the hotel and he had a good sense of humour. I'm not a great traveller especially long bus journeys but I am planning on using Caledonian Travel at the end of the year for Harry Potter studios again with another friend and possibly for a trip to Ireland. Couldn't fault anything. For anyone interested this was the itinerary: Saturday Left Glasgow - 7.30am Arrived at Stratford upon Avon - 3pm Left Stratford upon Avon - 4pm Arrived at hotel - 6pm Dinner - 7pm Sunday Breakfast - 7.30am Left hotel - 8.15am Arrived at Harry Potter - 8.30am Harry Potter - 9am-1pm Left Harry Potter - 1pm Arrived at Glasgow - 9.30pm

Booked a Christmas break with Caledonian Travel. Travelling from. Barnsley toTorquay, the Riviera Hotel. VERY DISAPPOINTED. Detailed e. Mail sent to Caledonian about 4 weeks ago and absolutely no response received. Would have thought the customer service department would have had the decency to respond, especially as my comments related to disabled access at the hotel. From my experience the majority of customers on coach trips are in the age group where accessibility can be an issue.

London Spectacular

Visited the Britannia International with a trip organised by Caledonian travel (London Spectacular). Saw plenty of negative reviews about the Hotel which turned out to be mostly unjustified. The Hotel is clean and although the room is a little tired, it was also clean and perfectly OK for our stay. The room was cold on entering. Phoned reception who apologised and sent up a heater within 10 mins. The heater wasn't very powerful but did enough to make the room comfortable. No cleaning of the room in the 5 days we were there which was a little disappointing. Breakfast was very good as was the Dinner that was included. Staff were pleasant and attentive. Hotel Bar prices were a little expensive (but it is London). Considering the price we were paying for the trip it was very good value for money - as was the Hotel. More

After reading some of the reviews before actually staying here, I was expecting an absolute hovel!! Yes its a wee bit dated and tired looking in some areas BUT it was nipping clean, as was our room. When we arrived the room was very warm but we turned down the thermostat before we went out and it was fine when we returned. Breakfast was well cooked and catered for pretty much every possible taste. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. For an overnight stay after seeing a show in the city I have to say we have nothing to complain about.

Maybe when the asked for payment immediately on checking in that I should have been concerned….. the hotel was probably a 4 star when it first opened but now, it probably has not been decorated in the last 10 years, or it has has extensive usage in that time, which would still have flagged the need to redecorate. The only clean aspects of the room was the bed linen and towels, the rest was a disgrace! Why do I say this, when I opened the draws to put items away they collapsed, the wardrobe was not even wide enough to put your clothes in. The bed squeaked ever time you moved, and there is not much room in their single beds to move… The bathroom was okay, but the hot water, particularly in the shower is scolding, with no adequate warning (visible) and it takes a while to adjust the taps to get a reasonable level - would be very dangerous for children, as the temperature set with the taps into the bath alters considerably when changed to the shower… Breakfast, certainly not four star - certainly concerned about portion control, plate size is a challenge to place a slice of toast and anything else. Coffee machine was terrible and certainly not monitored by staff. Another aspect that reflects the “attitude” of the hotel and its overall management, Wi-Fi only free in the lobby, not the rooms.. I suppose they realise people would not wish to stay in the rooms anyway. Location is good - just a few minutes from Canary Wharf but it is certainly going to struggle to attract people with the newer hotels all around it, without refurbishment!

Spent 5 nights here, travelling for work, and having had the room booked for me as part of a group booking. I still can't get my head around the place. Built in the late 80s/early 90s and I don't think it's seen a lick of paint, maintenance or anything similar since. It's like a Time Machine! I don't understand why a hotel like this is on located in Canary Wharf, or how it survives... Carpets are threadbare, lights not working, TV in room worked intermittently, and the walls between rooms are paper thin, so much so you can have a conversation with your neighbour if desired. Check in was slow, stood in a queue for around 10 mins with only 2 members of staff checking people in, and as I reached the front of the queue, with other people still waiting behind me, 1 member of staff closed her desk position and disappeared. The bar offers a real nostalgia trip for anyone that remembers pubs and restaurants from the early 2000's, but with modern day prices. They had a very basic selection of draught beers, and a couple of bottled options, but then bizarrely a vast selection of spirits including many whiskeys. Bed was comfy enough, but no ventilation in the room (or in the bathroom) makes it an uncomfortable place to spend any more time in than necessary. There is some heating/cooling options, but I found the room to be at the most comfortable temperature with all this turned off. Breakfast was OK, but at £15 I'd expect it to be a lot better than was presented. Think dodgy greasy spoon cafe, but not as good. Oh, and there is no free wifi option! Wifi starts at £7/day Wouldn't want to stay again.

AWFUL HOTEL! DO NOT STAY HERE! My room was like a cupboard that had been made in to a room and I had a mouse run from under my bed!! when speaking to manager he didn’t care and wouldn’t give a refund on room! Terrible place and should be closed while rentokil is brought in! Absolutely disgusting!

Absolutely disgusting rooms. Do not be fooled by the nice lobby and exterior. I wouldn’t have left my dog in the room we were given. Filthy, tired, rubbish strewn in the corridors. The horrendous smell of the room was the final resort - we could not stay there. Helpful reception staff helping us to get a full refund was the only positive. Checked into the Hilton down the road.
