What is the line? Celebrity Cruises

Name of ship? Apex

Passenger occupancy? Around 3,000

Itinerary? Athens, Greek Islands, Croatia, back to Athens

Start out with the big picture—what is this cruise line known for?

Celebrity Cruises differs from other big ship cruise lines in that it tends to kick things up a notch in the style and quality departments. The price tag remains in the middle of the pack, but its new line of Edge Class ships has propelled Celebrity forward to represent a new level of cruising. Celebrity has succeeded in appealing to every segment of traveler with its inclusive and forward-thinking new ships.

Tell us about the ship in general:

Setting off for the first time in 2020 with enough cabins for around 3,000 passengers, this is the second in the new Edge class of ships for Celebrity. Like sibling Celebrity Edge, this ship has the famous Magic Carpet bar that rises up and down the side of the ship like an elevator—plus a rooftop garden and grill. There are a few subtle differences though, which include the first Montblanc luxury store at sea, unique art and sculpture pieces around the ship, and a slightly redesigned Solarium area. The ship's chic interior and exterior design are the handiwork of celeb names like Nate Berkus and design maven Kelly Hoppen.

Who is onboard?

A sophisticated crowd, some cruising for the first time, and others who have sailed before but wanted to upgrade to a more modern ship. My Mediterranean sailing brought a mix of European and American guests—the ship has so much public space that it rarely felt crowded despite being completely full.

Describe the cabins.

I was lucky enough to stay in The Retreat, a discreet hideaway at the front of the ship with its own private pool, whirlpool, sun decks, restaurant, and private lounge for complimentary drinks and all-day snacks. For those that want to feel as if they are on a yacht rather than a large ship, The Retreat is for you.

The cabins have designer touches with bright colors and padded mattresses topped with duvets. The bathroom was rather spacious in my cabin with a glass shower stall, C.O. Bigelow toiletries from eco-friendly pump bottles, and a wide vanity.

I’m a big fan of Celebrity’s new Infinite Veranda staterooms, which swap the traditional balcony design for a larger cabin. By making better use of space, the original balcony area becomes part of the cabin’s living area. When you want fresh air, the touch of a button electronically lowers a window panel that makes the entire room a balcony of its own. Transparent panels can also slide closed to recreate the traditional balcony for those who want it. Edge class staterooms on the ship, although slightly smaller, have the same Infinite Veranda concept. In fact, the majority of cabins on Apex have some type of balcony. AquaClass cabins, which are not part of The Retreat, still offer an upgraded experience thanks to a private restaurant and free access to the spa and thermal suite.

Tell us about the crew.

The ship's crew hail from all around the world and speak multiple languages. The Retreat's staff were quick to remember my name and personal preferences. Overall, everyone working on board was very friendly and diligent at tidying the ship.

What food and drink options are available on board?

Like on Celebrity Edge, the main dining room option included in the cruise fare is divided into four separate restaurants with themed menus that rotate regularly. This gives passengers the chance to experience a different setting and menu each evening without spending anything extra.

Oceanview Cafe, my personal favorite, is set up like a buffet with various islands featuring a dozen different styles of cuisine, from Indian and Mexican food to traditional salad and pasta bars. Since my sailing was departing from Greece, there was always a colorful smorgasbord of local olives, cheeses, dips, and vegetables. Kudos to Celebrity’s Edge class of ships for making the traditional cruise buffet feel like an upscale food hall. After piling my plate high, I would head to the back patio (close to the fresh pizza oven) to dine in privacy and watch the waves flow behind us.

A swipe of your card opens up the dozen-plus specialty dining options with dishes designed by Daniel Boulud, Celebrity’s Global Culinary Ambassador. These include a sushi bar and raw grill (loved my dinner here), a French bistro with animated tabletop display called Le Petit Chef, plus a steakhouse and rooftop garden grill preparing burgers, steaks, and salads. Eden is a dinner favorite for its live performances in the cocktail lounge and the creative menu of international dishes, including numerous plant-based options. Not all specialty options have a fee. Eden Cafe has some grab-and-go bites like paninis and salads; and Mast Grill has burgers and fries by the pool.

On Celebrity Apex, bars abound. Perhaps the most spectacular is the martini bar. This is a lively spot in the central atrium where the bartenders are more like jugglers and magicians pouring, serving, and stacking drinks to great applause beneath a gigantic LED chandelier. Sunset Bar in the back of the ship is another go-to place for the views, and late-night hours in the disco keep the party fueled up. At least once during the sailing, it’s worth riding The Magic Carpet with a cocktail in hand while perched along the edge of the ship (I was especially jealous of those that opted to do so while in Santorini). Despite all the nightlife action, there is very little noise disturbance when you’re in your stateroom.

Is there a spa on board and is it worth visiting?

The Thermal Suite in the spa was exactly where I wanted to be while winding down my initial jet lag upon boarding in Athens. The heated daybeds facing the windows were pure therapy for my body, especially after spending time in the sauna, steam areas, salt room, and crystalarium (where Amethyst crystals help to detox the skin and body). Toward the end of my cruise, I booked a hydrafacial to help unravel the sun’s effects on my face after ten days in the Greek and Croatian islands. The gym on Apex is a bit larger than the one on Edge, but I prefer walking along the exterior jogging track to take in the views.

What about activities and entertainment?

With a rounded stage and wrap-around seats, the theater aboard Celebrity Apex is a game changer. For guests staying in the Retreat cabins, there is a reserved section on the mezzanine—but there are really no bad seats either way. During every performance, the 180-foot LED screens pumped visual energy throughout the space, and can even open up to reveal additional stage areas for theatrical performances.

Concerts by the pool, in the nightclub, or at the rooftop garden provided alternative diversion day and night. Live music fills almost every space on the ship during the evening hours, which encourages bar-hopping from the brewery, to the wine bar, and the Eden lounge. Drinks on Celebrity Apex are not included, but there are beverage packages that can ease the pain on your wallet if you enjoy a good tipple. The nightclub space doubles as a meeting venue during the day, but also hosts entertainment like an escape room or game show events, too.

How was the experience for families?

Kids can participate in organized activities depending upon their age, although some families choose to spend time together playing basketball, table tennis, splashing in the pool, or competing over video games. There are no waterparks or waterslides on Apex, which helps to keep the atmosphere calm and scream-free. You won’t find the ship to be jam-packed with young children although that can vary by the itinerary.

Where did it sail and how were the excursions? Did anything stand out?

The gorgeous Greek islands were a highlight of the sailing with fairly priced walking tours and cooking lessons available as excursions. The famous sail-in to Montenegro was enthralling as the ship weaved through the mountain-lined landscape, and Dubrovnik, Croatia is always a personal favorite.

Are there any stand out sustainability or green initiatives about this cruise?

Celebrity is zeroed in on a no-waste footprint, and on my ship, 85% of the waste is recycled or reused. The ship also plugs into shore power in most ports. The Edge class of ships uses 20% less fuel than older ships, and Celebrity Apex is part of a trial that uses a biofuel blend (using oils and fats with fuel) to reduce carbon emissions.

Anything we missed?

The godmother of Apex is the founder of Girls Who Code, which is focused on empowering young girls to follow their passions, especially in the world of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). I was impressed with the STEM programming available for kids on the ship. Celebrity also has an Autism Friendly Certification from Autism on the Seas.

Finally, give a sentence or two on why the cruise is worth booking.

Celebrity Apex may not have the largest slide, the biggest room count, or challenge-inducing surf lessons or race cars, but it does take cruising to the next level in its own sophisticated way. This is one of my favorite ships at sea.

Celebrity Apex: Splendid Cruise Ship Shows

What was the first instrument Jimi Hendrix learned how to play and who gave it to him?

Also, who designed the logo for the famous rock group Queen?

I didn’t know the answers to either of those questions until I attended the “Rockumentary” show aboard the Celebrity Apex . The daily ship bulletin describes the production as being a chance to relive epic performances that have defined decade after decade of rock and roll.

celebrity cruise apex entertainment

That it was. But, since I arrived early to get a good seat, I was also treated to a visual presentation of rock trivia on the theater walls. Although I’ve long been a fan of Jimi Hendrix and Queen, I didn’t know those two tidbits. I won’t reveal the answers until the end of this story to give you a chance to figure it out for yourself.

With a ship as spectacular as the new Celebrity Apex, passengers might expect that entertainment is going to be super-special as well. And it is. In fact, even the stage in The Theatre is unusual and eye-catching. The Theatre – that’s it’s real name – is located on decks 4 and 5.

“The stage has no curtain,” a woman seated near me whispered. She was right. Not only does the Celebrity Apex Theatre not have a curtain, the stage itself extends into the audience. The in-the-round design puts everyone closer to the stage. Just for the heck of it, I sat in three different seats in the theater for different shows – front, back and middle – and they all were great.

State-of-the-Art Technology

The Theatre’s state-of-the-art technology includes 23-foot-tall 4K LED screen curving around the stage. A 28-foot-tall circular scrim and eight Panasonic 20K laser projectors for projection mapping create a 360-degree wrap-around picture for audiences. A live band, singers, dancers and aerial acrobats are all top-notch performers.

On another evening, The Theatre offered “Tree of Life,” telling stories of unforgettable memories in the lives of people and of the tree. The illuminated tree is complete with more than 3,000 LED leaves and changes color with the seasons as does the backdrop. Again, I arrived early as did many other passengers and were treated to an acoustic guitar concert beneath the tree.

The final show in The Theatre was named “Crystallize” and featured an electrifying violinist, high-energy light show, special effects, more singers and dancers and aerial acrobatics. Even the violinist was hoisted aloft by a contraption strapped to her body. And she didn’t miss a beat of violin playing.

celebrity cruise apex entertainment

The Theatre offered other shows during our cruise. Grammy nominated Broadway star and former American idol top finalist, Trenyce presented “Dueling Divas” spotlighting Diana Ross and Whitney Houston. Comedian/author Kirk Smith brought entertaining laughs. Three talented young men sang and danced in “Uptown.” Another night, “Magical Bones” questioned the limits of what is humanly possible.

The Club and Other Music Venues

But that’s not all. Celebrity Apex also has an entertainment venue called The Club. During the day, The Club offers games, dance classes and much more. In the evening are cabaret-style productions. One evening, I saw “Caravan,” featuring new takes on classic circus acts. Difficult to describe but fun to watch. Arrive early in The Club because good viewing seats are limited.

The Club was also the site for a series called “Beyond the Podium.” Featured guest speaker on my cruise was Andy Friedenberg, a former regional marketing director for United Artists, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Columbia Pictures. He shared celebrity war stories including a look at his work on the first preview of “The Electric Horseman” with filmmaker Sydney Pollack, plus the time he worked with Charlton Heston on the world premiere of “The Mountain Men.”

Of course, Celebrity Apex has music in other places around the ship including the unique space called Eden. Each night in Eden features a different theme – Night of Dreams, Night of Enchantment, Night of Chill, Night of Adrenaline, Night of the Year and Night of Arts. Live performances revolve around those themes. Very imaginative and creative.

Seems like live music is happening almost all the time on Celebrity Apex . One of my favorite listening spots is the Grand Plaza, the prime meeting spot that soars on decks 3, 4 and 5. Plenty of seats to enjoy a cocktail, creative coffee or just relax in the beautiful ambiance.

Trivia Answers

As for those two trivia questions, it was Jimi Hendrix’s father Al who gave the youngster the first musical instrument he learned how to play. It was a one-string ukulele which his father gave him after watching young Jimi jam out with a broom. Jimi died Sept. 18, 1970, at age 27 of a drug overdose.

The famously regal logo for Queen was designed by Freddie Mercury himself. He had a degree in art and graphic design. One of the most recognizable band logos of all time, the “Queen crest” was created by Freddie shortly before release of the band’s first album in 1973.

The logo combines the zodiac signs of all four members – two lions for Leos John Deacon and Roger Taylor, a Cancer crab for Brian May and two Virgo fairies for Freddie. The lions can be seen embracing a letter Q while the crab rests on top the letter with flames rising directly above it. The fairies are situated below the lions.

There is also a crown inside the Q and the whole logo is contained by a huge phoenix. The symbol resembles the Royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom, particularly with the lions. Freddie died Nov. 24, 1991, at age 45 due to complications from AIDS.

Never know what you might learn on an ocean cruise.

The 9 best gay cruises for 2024 (+ planning tips).

Dance parties, drag queen performances and fun destinations await on these LGBTQ voyages.

Embark on an all-gay or LGBTQ-friendly cruise for excellent entertainment, food and excursions.

Whether you are looking to hop aboard a Pride Week cruise with a major line or sail away with a smaller company that specializes in LGBTQ voyages, the following cruise operators promise a fun, safe and memorable vacation.

(Note: While many of these cruise lines sail to LGBTQ-friendly ports of call, travelers should research destinations to learn more about cultures, customs and safety in each location and determine what's right for them.)

Travelers lounge on a gay cruise with VACAYA

Gabriel Goldberg | Courtesy of VACAYA

Founded by avid travelers Randle Roper, Patrick Gunn and John Finen, VACAYA bills itself as the first all-LGBT travel company in the full-ship charter/resort buyout sector of the travel industry to launch in more than 25 years.

"[VACAYA] was sparked by our own vacations, where we all had encountered two very different experiences," says Gunn. "The all-gay cruises were liberating, empowering and fun, but limited to a small spectrum of people. And while everyone loves a good time, there's more to a memorable vacation than just parties. Mainstream vacations offered more activities and destinations, and were accessible to a diverse set of people, but didn't always feel like a friendly, judgment-free environment."

As such, VACAYA set out to bring LGBTQ travelers from across the spectrum together in a welcoming, inclusive setting, while offering varied onboard activities and immersive itinerary options. Cruisers will enjoy traveling to ports around the world, in the Caribbean , the Galápagos, Europe , Antarctica and more. You can participate in shipwide events ranging from themed deck parties to performances by LGBTQ entertainers to rejuvenating yoga classes. Note that VACAYA's cruises are for adults only.

Previous cruisers had abundant praise for VACAYA's voyages, highlighting the company's responsiveness when booking and the kindhearted staff, as well as the genuine connections they made with other passengers on board. Many were also impressed by the events and entertainment options throughout their sailings.

In 2024, VACAYA will offer a number of voyages worldwide. The seven-night Caribbean Cruise on Celebrity Apex in February will sail round-trip from Fort Lauderdale, with several fun-filled days at sea in addition to stops in Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Antigua. In August, VACAYA has a 12-night river cruise in Northern Europe on board Advance by Transcend Cruises; this sailing includes the Amsterdam Pride event. The 11-night Antarctica expedition on Atlas Ocean Voyages' World Navigator in December 2024 is sold out, but you can join the waitlist.

The pool on a Virgin Voyages cruise ship

The Virgin brand has long been known for its celebration of the LGBTQ community, and cruise line Virgin Voyages is no different. The strictly adults-only cruise operator aims to provide a unique experience, with onboard tattoo parlors, impressive live entertainment, and dining options that include more than 20 eateries and menus created by Michelin star chefs. This line gets the stamp of approval from previous LGBTQ cruisers, who praise the ships' gender-neutral bathrooms, diverse staff and onboard shows with resident drag queens.

Virgin Voyages offers gay-specific sailings through travel companies like Atlantis Events, but its more mainstream itineraries still offer a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere that attracts LGBTQ cruisers year-round. Virgin hosts a number of events during Pride Month each year, including deck parties and interactive social media campaigns.

"Each June here at Virgin Voyages, we like to go big for Pride Month with larger-than-life events … all monthlong," the cruise line says in a statement on its website. "It's an important time for us – both internally within our crew and for our sailors – to honor and celebrate the LGBTQ community; who for so long has had to continually fight for equality and the right to be seen, heard and included."

Virgin Voyages sails to a variety of LGBTQ-friendly countries, including New Zealand, Greece and Spain. In June 2024, consider a seven-night sailing aboard Scarlet Lady departing from Barcelona with stops in Marseille and Cannes in France as well as Spain's Palma de Mallorca and Ibiza.

The world's largest gay and lesbian travel brand, Atlantis Events was founded in 1991 and welcomes more than 20,000 travelers annually on LGBTQ vacations. For its all-gay cruises, Atlantis charters megaships from popular lines like Royal Caribbean International , Norwegian Cruise Line and Virgin Voyages in addition to smaller vessels with companies like Oceania Cruises so cruisers will have a fully immersive experience.

On board, travelers can enjoy all the perks these ships have to offer (think: pools, hot tubs, sports courts and plenty of dining choices), plus special events like drag performances, motivational speakers, LGBTQ movies on demand in each cabin and high-energy circuit parties across the ship.

"As an LGBTQ cruiser, you're looking for a ship with lots of entertainment, including dance parties and events," says Marcos Martinez, founder of Men Who Brunch, a Black gay lifestyle blog. "One of the best cruise [lines] for gay cruising is Atlantis, since you'll be able to meet hundreds of attractive men and party all day and night on the ship."

Atlantis hosts primarily gay men; women make up about 5% to 10% of bookings, according to the Atlantis website. Previous cruisers said the atmosphere on board was fun, friendly and welcoming, though some noted that the company's customer service could be better, especially when it comes to details about the cruise.

Due to the company's popularity, its three 2024 cruises are already sold out.

Specializing in all-gay river cruises – and now luxury ocean liners – Brand g Vacations was founded in 2011 and explores destinations all over the world. Chartered river cruises typically welcome between 40 and 200 LGBTQ passengers (and their straight allies), which allows cruisers to get to know one another in a smaller setting. Guests tend to skew more mature (think: 40 and older), and the line attracts both men and women.

Onboard entertainment differs slightly from larger ocean voyages: Expect more cabaret-style entertainment than massive all-night dance parties. Cruisers will also enjoy performances by drag queens, gay Broadway stars and more, on top of typical river cruise perks like sightseeing and lavish meals. Past guests recommend choosing Brand g if you're looking for a well-planned, relaxed and luxurious experience over a busier, more party-heavy vacation.

Brand g aims to provide a nearly all-inclusive cruise experience , with Mercedes or small van airport transfers, upscale hotel stays prior to embarkation, and unlimited alcoholic beverages as well as meals included in the fare. As such, prices tend to be on the high end. Celebrity Cruises sets the scene for an excellent vacation for gay travelers, from its extravagant annual Pride parties to its daily LGBTQ programming throughout the year. The mainstream line has received numerous awards for its inclusivity, receiving accolades from the Cruizie Awards, TTG Travel Awards and Travel Weekly's Magellan Awards for being one of the best cruise lines for LGBTQ passengers.

LGBTQ cruisers can start their vacations off on a high note with a special welcome party on the first night of their voyage to meet other travelers on board. After night one, there are other social events for gay cruisers to party and hang out together. Additionally, Celebrity Cruises was the first cruise line to legally marry a couple at sea in 2018, and it continues to perform same-sex marriages on its ships.

Past cruisers enjoyed their voyages with Celebrity, noting that the line was welcoming, the food was delicious, and there were plenty of areas to hang out as a group with fellow LGBTQ passengers or other companions throughout the ship.

Although all itineraries are gay-friendly, consider booking a sailing during Pride Month in June for an extra special experience. Onboard entertainment during this month includes guest entertainers, a flag raising ceremony, Celebrity's signature Pride Party at Sea and more. The Italian Riviera & France cruise will depart from Barcelona on June 8, 2024, on the new Celebrity Ascent; this 10-night Mediterranean sailing stops at ports in France, Italy and Malta. Private travel companies like VACAYA also charter Celebrity ships for all-gay voyages throughout the year.

Royal Caribbean International provides a welcoming and inclusive experience for LGBTQ travelers. The popular cruise line frequently partners with Atlantis Events to offer all-gay voyages throughout the year, but even the standard sailings earn praise.

Highlights of the sailings are the ships' entertainment options (including the Tony Award-winning musical "Mamma Mia!") and attentive staff, according to past cruisers. In 2024, consider a Royal Caribbean voyage that sails to gay-friendly destinations. "Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, [is] full of gay bars, clubs and gay beaches," says Martinez. Hop aboard Navigator of the Seas in May for a seven-night sailing round-trip from Los Angeles that stops in Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta and Ensenada, Mexico. The intimate ship accommodates just 20 passengers. Source Journeys is also offering a seven-night river cruise through Burgundy and Provence, France, in June on Avalon Waterways' Avalon Poetry II, as well as a seven-night voyage from Venice along the Dalmatian Coast. Frequently Asked Questions

When it comes to gay cruising, gone are the days of discreet "Friends of Dorothy" meetups. The term – a euphemism that dates back to the 1950s – was once used to indicate gay social events on daily cruise line programs, without explicitly calling out members of the community on board. It's a far cry from today's LGBTQ cruising industry, which loudly and proudly celebrates passengers from all walks of life.

According to experts, LGBTQ cruising is a market that will only continue to grow. Travelers can take their pick between cruise operators tailored specifically to queer communities and major cruise lines that offer festive Pride celebrations and inclusive onboard entertainment. As travel on the high seas continues to grow in popularity for vacationers, gay and lesbian travelers should consider setting sail on a fun-filled cruise vacation for their next trip.

When planning a cruise, vacationers should first consider what their ideal sailing looks like.

Gay-friendly vs. all-gay sailings: Cruisers should think about whether they'd like to travel aboard a gay-friendly mainstream line – such as Celebrity Cruises or Virgin Voyages – or opt for an all-gay, full-ship charter with a third-party vacation company.

"Each and every LGBTQIAPK person has a different level of comfortability in their 'outness,' " says Patrick Gunn, co-founder and chief marketing officer of LGBTQ vacation company VACAYA. Of VACAYA's all-gay charters, he adds, "For one magical week, our community gets to be the majority and live life out loud in the blissful utopia VACAYA creates on a gay cruise. That single change from being an always-minority to a sudden majority can have a profoundly positive real-world effect on individuals."

  • Travel style: Some cruise operators (think: Atlantis Events and La Demence) are known for their electrifying all-night parties, which may be perfect for gay groups of friends. Meanwhile, other companies like VACAYA and Olivia look to provide a more diverse selection of activities, ranging from tea dances (LGBTQ parties that, historically, included tea service) to philanthropic service activities to immersive onshore experiences.
  • Ports of call: Some of the most LGBTQ- and gay-friendly destinations for cruises include: Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Sydney; Barcelona, Spain; Taipei (Keelung), Taiwan; Helsinki; Quebec City; Auckland, New Zealand; Mykonos, Greece; Reykjavik, Iceland; Amsterdam; Tel Aviv, Israel; Buenos Aires, Argentina; and San Francisco. Countries that gay travelers may want to avoid include the Maldives, Jamaica, Morocco, Malaysia and Haiti, as homosexuality is illegal in these destinations.

The 9 Best Gay Cruises for 2024 (+ Planning Tips)

W hether you are looking to hop aboard a Pride Week cruise with a major line or sail away with a smaller company that specializes in LGBTQ voyages, the following cruise operators promise a fun, safe and memorable vacation.

(Note: While many of these cruise lines sail to LGBTQ-friendly ports of call, travelers should research destinations to learn more about cultures, customs and safety in each location and determine what's right for them.)

Category Navigation Box Enhancement : Table of Contents - Travel - Best Gay Cruises

Virgin Voyages

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

Suri Cruise was photographed celebrating her 18th birthday in New York City while her estranged father, Tom Cruise, worked abroad in London.

According to pictures obtained by Page Six, the birthday girl stepped out in the rainy weather with a friend on Thursday. The pals chatted as Suri held a pink umbrella over their heads.

The teen, who is also the daughter of Katie Holmes, wore jeans, a denim jacket over a brown shirt and black shoes. She carried a blue backpack and held what looked like a birthday gift in her hand.

A day before Suri’s big day, her father, Tom, was spotted overseas in London filming a new project.

The “Mission Impossible” star, 61, flashed a wide grin as he arrived at a helipad and piloted a jet.

Tom and his youngest daughter have not had a close relationship over the past years. In fact, a source exclusively told Page Six earlier this month that the movie star has not seen Suri since 2012 (they were last seen together at Disney World that summer).

“Katie has safeguarded Suri and she’s a devoted mom,” the insider told us. “This is a girl who is a private citizen. She hasn’t lived her life in public.”

Holmes, who filed for divorce from Tom when Suri was only 6 years old in June 2012, previously told Glamour that she wanted to keep her daughter out of the public eye “because she was so visible at a young age.”

The 45-year-old also revealed in November 2013 court docs that she filed for divorce from Tom “to protect Suri from Scientology ,” a religion that is often referred to as a cult.

While it is believed that Holmes signed several non-disclosure agreements to prevent her from speaking about her marriage to Tom and the Church of Scientology, Suri will be free to discuss the religion and her father now that she is legally an adult.

Though it’s unclear whether the teen will publicly speak about her father, she won’t be joining Scientology anytime soon.

“Suri is not a Scientologist and never will be … she deserves love and sympathy,” former Scientology spokesperson Mike Rinder told Page Six.

Suri Cruise Is All Grown Up After 18th Birthday as She Steps Out With Mom Katie Holmes in NYC

The teen was spotted with her mom in the Big Apple, both wearing coordinating denim for their outing.

Katie Holmes with daughter Suri Cruise

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes ‘ daughter, Suri Cruise , turned 18 earlier this month and is spending time with her mom, 45. The mother-daughter duo were recently spotted in New York City together following Suri’s birthday.

On Monday, April 22, Suri stepped out carrying what appeared to be an iced coffee alongside Katie, according to photos published by Daily Mail . For their day out, the teen wore a red maxi dress with a long denim overcoat and brown boots. As for Katie, she chose a pair of dark denim jeans with a green long-sleeved shirt for the outing.

Suri is rarely seen out in public. Up until now, she was legally a minor, and Katie preferred to keep her daughter away from the spotlight. However, the Coda actress shared a rare childhood picture of Suri to her Instagram in May 2021 in honor of Mother’s Day at the time. The image featured a then-toddler-aged Suri as Katie kissed her cheek.

Suri Cruise with her mom Katie Holmes

“I am so grateful to be a mom to the sweetest daughter,” Katie captioned the post. “Happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms!!!!”

The former Dawson’s Creek star previously opened up about being a famous parent to a young child during a 2017 interview with Town & Country. While noting that this “business is so unstable, and you never really know where you’re going to be,” Katie explained how she made sure to protect Suri’s childhood.
