Ellen DeGeneres Is Launching Her Comeback

Portrait of Olivia Craighead

Ellen DeGeneres is on an actual comeback tour. The comedian ended her long-running talk show in 2022, two years after BuzzFeed reporting revealed a toxic work environment fostered by the show’s producers , including allegations of racism, sexual harassment, and “intimidation.” While DeGeneres claimed to have no knowledge of the bad work environment, there was no coming back from the hit. She ended her show and then disappeared for two years to flip houses with Portia . Now, she’s back, and she’s making jokes.

DeGeneres kicked off her Ellen’s Last Stand … Up Tour on Wednesday night in Los Angeles, to an audience that Rolling Stone described as “eager.” The magazine reported that DeGeneres wasted no time getting into the nitty-gritty.

“I used to say that I didn’t care what other people thought of me, and I realized … I said that at the height of my popularity,” DeGeneres said as her opener. Credit where credit is due, that’s a funny line. Elsewhere in her set, she bemoaned her status as a showbiz pariah.

“Oh yeah, I got kicked out of show business. There’s no mean people in show business,” she said. “The ‘be kind’ girl wasn’t kind. I became this one-dimensional character who gave stuff away and danced up steps. Do you know how hard it is to dance up steps? Would a mean person dance up steps? Had I ended my show by saying ‘go fuck yourself,’ people would’ve been pleasantly surprised.”

While that would indeed have been surprising, it’s interesting that DeGeneres thinks she was kicked out of show business. Earlier in her set, the comedian reportedly announced that her tour would culminate in a Netflix special. That’s not exactly “kicked out.”

“It’s been such a toll on my ego and my self-esteem,” DeGeneres said of her fall from grace. “There’s such extremes in this business; people either love you and idolize you or they hate you, and those people somehow are louder.”

It’s not all bad for DeGeneres, though. In Rolling Stone ’s report of the evening, the magazine noted she got a standing ovation. After her set, she apparently did a Q&A with the audience, during which people told her how much she meant to them and what her work had done for them and their loved ones. That’s very sweet, but if she’s really committed to being candid, I’m going to need someone to ask DeGeneres about Dakota Johnson .

The beatles’ no. ‘1’ compilation is staging a comeback.

The Beatles posing together. From left to right: musicians George Harrison, John Lennon, Paul ... [+] McCartney and Ringo Starr, circa 1965.

The Beatles never have a hard time moving copies of their music. They still rank as one of the most successful and bestselling artists in U.S. history, even though they haven’t released a new album in decades. This frame, one of the group’s most successful compilations is back on a pair of Billboard charts, proving that the American masses are still in love with their work today, just as they were half a century ago.

1 by The Beatles returns to two Billboard rankings this frame. That title wasn’t present on any lists last week, so its comeback is a bit unexpected, but perfectly welcome.

On the Billboard 200, 1 reappears at No. 172. The compilation blasts back onto the list of the most-consumed albums of all styles, ages, and genres thanks to 8,644 equivalent units shifted. That sum includes 413 actual sales, according to Luminate.

The same title also manages to crack the Top Rock & Alternative Albums roster as well. That list ranks the most-consumed albums and EPs in the U.S. that Billboard classifies as rock or alternative, which of course The Beatles’ music fits.

1 lands at No. 41 on the Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart this week, easily breaking back onto the 50-spot list. It has previously risen as high as No. 3 on that ranking, and it’s now managed 311 weeks somewhere on the tally.

Last week, The Beatles appeared on both of these charts, but not with 1 . Last frame, their compilation 1967-1970 –sometimes referred to as the Blue album–sat on these rankings, but it’s been replaced by 1 . This can happen sometimes when fans’ buying and streaming habits transfer from one group of songs to another. If the hits on 1 outpace those on 1967-1970 , which seems to have been the case here, the more popular of the two collections will appear on the charts the following frame.

The Beatles released 1 in November 2000, and the compilation was a massive success. The CD has sold tens of millions of copies, and it brought the band back to the top spot on the Billboard 200 after a lengthy absence from the highest rung on that tally.

  • by Web Desk
  • April 27, 2024

جنگ نیوز

Taylor Swift is gearing up to resume the highly anticipated European leg of her Eras Tour, after a well-deserved break, on a bittersweet note.

According to the US Weekly , a source has exclusively revealed that The Tortured Poets Department singer and her beau Travis Kelce have “deepened their bond” during “all the time they’ve spent together recently.”

While referring to Swift’s Eras Tour, which she will resume her Eras Tour again in Paris, France on May 9 - continuing the tour until December, the insider shared, “It makes the prospect of her tour more challenging. She’ll be sad.”

However, the source also added that the Anti-Hero songstress and the NFL player both gave preference to their work.

“They support and respect [each other],” adding, “They have busy careers, so they understand those commitments, as difficult as it is.”

As per the source, Swift and Kelce took “a trip up the California coast” in order to “celebrate privately.”

The insider further added, “They’re making the most of the time they have together.”

This update comes a few days after the couple was spotted with Gigi Hadid and Bradley Cooper on a joint vacation in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California.

PHILADELPHIA— Livingston junior Jessica Oji went through a long eight months of rehab to get to this moment.

Just a month after winning top American honors in the shot put last year, Oji tore her ACL at a meet in May 2023, which prevented her from competing at groups and Meet of Champions. Her return date was supposed to be March or April, which would’ve meant a long road back to becoming the thrower that she was.

What happened to Bernhard Langer? A look at the ace golfer's injury as he prepares for PGA Tour Champions comeback

B ernhard Langer, the timeless golf legend, is gearing up for his comeback to professional golf after three months. Langer took a break after he tore his left Achilles tendon in January.

Langer is looking forward to playing in PGA Tour Champions' event Insperity Invitational. The tournament is scheduled from May 3 to 5, 2024 at the Tournament Course at the Woodlands Country Club in the Woodlands, Texas. The tournament has a total purse of $2,700,000 with the winner taking home $405,000.

The PGA Tour Champions posted a video on X with an interview with Bernard Langer, where the legend opened up about the injury and the treatment he had to go through to recover. Langer said that he got the injury while playing pickleball with his friends.

"Part of my training is doing other things, like ping-pong and other sports. So I played pickleball with some of my friends. My opponent lobbed me and I did a few steps back, jumped up and hit it and as I landed, I heard this loud noise and pain in my leg."
"I went down on the ground and at first I thought I hit something walking backwards, but as I looked around me there was nothing there and I realized most likely it's a torn Achilles tendon ."

Bernhard Langer went through surgery the next day after suffering the injury. He explained that his immediate response was to delve into the meaning of the situation. He wondered how long he wouldn't be able to play golf and if he would ever return.

He has won on the senior circuit record 46 times, among them he emerged victorious twice on the Insperity Invitational in 2014 and 2018.

Bernhard Langer got inspired by the Jets' Aaron Rodgers who tore his Achilles tendon last year

In the aforementioned video posted by PGA Tour Champions on X, Bernhard Langer further said that after the surgery he followed the protocol given by his surgeon and his PT to recover quickly and totally. He wore a boot identical to a ski boot on his left leg until March when he could stand on his feet. He said:

"That was an amazing feeling, that I can actually stand again because I didn't stand for weeks."

Bernhard Langer drew inspiration from Aaron Rodgers , the quarterback for the New York Jets who got injured at the beginning of the NFL season last year. Rodgers went through a similar surgery and was able to play within three months. Langer said:

"That lifted my spirits, hearing he was back on the field throwing the ball after eight or nine weeks. That encouraged me that I might be able to do something similar."

Langer expressed that he could remain productive for a few more years and had a lot of good golf left in him.

"My goal was to be the best that I can be, and I think if I get back to being at my best again, even at my age, I still think I'm competitive. And I still think I can win on certain golf courses."

Langer would be seen next week in Insperity Invitational. In his golf career, Bernhard Langer has had more than 130 global tournament wins, 3 PGA TOUR triumphs and 12 PGA TOUR Champions majors.

(EXCLUSIVE, Premium Rates Apply) Prince performs after being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (Photo by Kevin Kane/WireImage)

Prince had been at a crossroads before, but never like he was at the beginning of 2004.

Popular on Variety

On February 8, he opened the 2004 Grammy Awards with a five-minute medley of “Purple Rain,” “Baby I’m a Star” and “Let’s Go Crazy” — with Beyonce — that may be the greatest opening to a music-awards show in television history. Two weeks later, he announced his first major tour in six years, noting that he’d be playing his hits again. “It’s older music, but it’s going to be played in a newer way,” he said, teasing that it might be the last time he played those songs in concert (it wasn’t). Then in March, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, where he played a different, much longer medley of his hits during the ceremony — but of course what everyone remembers is his show-stealing solo during the all-star George Harrison tribute, which he finished by throwing his guitar into the audience.

Musically, “Musicology” was a return to accessibility. And although it didn’t reach the peaks of his classic ‘80s material — to be fair, not much music does — it was a vivid sampler of his musical styles that marked the return of the Prince that people knew and loved. It also was a genuine hit: The ticket-CD bundle helped loft the album to No. 3 on the Billboard 200, but it was top 5 in multiple countries all over the world without that boost, even though it didn’t have a big hit single. Recorded over several years, “Musicology”’s musical baseline is the brand of lean funk Prince was raised on — he even shouts out Earth, Wind & Fire, James Brown and others in the album’s lead-off title track, which concludes with brief, scratchy recordings of some of his own hits in a mock scanning-the-radio-dial segment. There are a couple of “Do Me, Baby”-styled bedroom ballads, bombastic rock (“A Million Days”), even the new wave pop he hadn’t done since “I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man” on “Cinnamon Girl,” complete with splashes of vintage synthesizers. It winds down with a sultry, slow-burning burst of Aretha on the soulfully bluesy “On the Couch” and concludes with the breezy “Reflection.”

Even though Prince’s musicianship was at a new peak — his blazing guitar work, multi-tracked harmonies, production and arranging show an artist at the top of his craft — he was making music that was easy to like again, which isn’t to say it was simple; but even at its most sophisticated and complex (like the jazzy interlude at the end of “If I Was the Man in Ur Life”), it went down more smoothly. Indeed, the only area where “Musicology” fell flat is in the lyrics, which, like much of Prince’s later material, could be shockingly insipid. In particular, the album’s catchiest track, “Life of the Party,” is marred by lyrics so tossed-off that it sounds like they were written off the top of his head. (“So you’re havin’ a party?/ Goody for you/ All the beautiful people gonna be there/ Yeah, that’s cool.”) Even when he tried gravitas — about politics, war, global warming and moral decay on “Dear Mr. Man” — it wasn’t much better.

Prince was not an artist who’d ever lacked confidence, but by the end of 2004, the full swagger was back in his step. He’d significantly increased his wealth: The tour grossed nearly $90 million, the album was certified double platinum in the U.S. early in 2005, and it spurred sales of his entire catalog in an era when most people still bought CDs. But more importantly, it also marked the return of the Prince people knew, one who wasn’t completely refusing to be who he’d been, and not just musically: The weird outfits and otherworldly hairstyles had been replaced by sleek, classy suits and a short, trim cut.

The year’s creative efforts also gave him a model for how to pursue the rest of his career. Any time he wanted another million (or ten), he’d hit the road in some new and unusual way. Over the following years he played everything from a months-long Las Vegas residency to a premium-price one at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood; from a series of 21 dates at London’s Wembley Arena to a handful of shows in specific regions of the U.S. — even the Carolinas. He played brief “Hit and Run” tours that were announced just days before they launched; and of course he staged what is universally considered to be the greatest Super Bowl Halftime performance of all time in 2007. By contrast, his last tour, shortly before his death in 2016, was just him accompanying himself on piano. He kept finding new ways to keep himself interested.

And although he wouldn’t again reach the upper echelons of the charts in his lifetime and his albums continued to be frustratingly hit-or-miss, his sense of innovation returned with “3121,” the album that followed “Musicology” — on it, fans of “Sign O’ the Times,” which many regard as the peak of his creativity, could find much to grab onto, at least for the first half of the album. Unfortunately, most of the other albums he released in these years were maddeningly inconsistent (and sometimes appallingly bad) but although you won’t find any hidden “Purple Rain”s, there are overlooked gems to be found on many of them — like “Lavaux” and “Laydown” from “20Ten” (the latter of which features the priceless line, “from the heart of Minnesota/ Here come the purple Yoda”), and “Better With Time” and especially “ Ol’ Skool Company ” from “MPLSoUND.” Every once in a while on those albums and others, the Prince you love pops up with something so great it’s as if he’d never gone anywhere. And that’s really the gift of his scattershot, impossibly vast musical output — even though he’s no longer here, there’ll always be something new to find.

“Musicology” was the end of Prince’s wilderness years, and in every way, it set him up for the remaining dozen years of his much-too-brief life.
