What It’s Like to Collect Fine Art on Cruise Ships
It’s okay if you’ve never once bought a work of art. You are not alone!
Many art collectors have started their art collecting journey with Park West Gallery during their cruise vacations—and it’s easy to see why! We work hard to make sure the process of buying art on a cruise is pleasant, fun, rewarding, and seamless, thanks to our passionate auctioneers , thrilling auctions, unbeatable deals, painless “check-out” process, and the hard work of our fantastic onboard art teams.
Let’s walk through exactly what it’s like buying art on a cruise, from registering for an auction all the way to having your brand new artwork show up at your door. It’s an incredible process, one that’s experienced by tens of thousands of art collectors every year!
The Onboard Art Gallery
Your first interaction with Park West should happen before your vacation even begins. Even if you’re unsure about collecting fine art at sea, you should still pre-register for Park West’s onboard art auctions online at least a week before your cruise. Anyone who pre-registers will receive a warm welcome from Park West’s onboard art team, a $100 bid credit, and a free gift!
Your first physical encounter with Park West and their fabulous art will probably come as you enter the stunning onboard Park West Art Gallery. Maybe this occurs during embarkation day as you start exploring the ship, or a few days later as you head to the onboard theater for a musical production.
You know when you see it. Gorgeously framed, colorful works of art elegantly shine in the gallery lights, and jaw-dropping sculptures are displayed proudly on pedestals. You’ll also encounter a group of well-dressed, smiling, and extremely knowledgeable individuals, eager to discuss any of the works on display. This is the Park West onboard art team —people who are committed to educating you on the world of fine art and helping you find a work of art that speaks intimately to your specific personality and taste.
Pop in, take a look around, ask questions, and learn how you can start collecting art (without spending a penny) with our free artworks available at our art history seminars and events during your vacation at sea.
It’s Auction Time!
If you didn’t already discover when and where the first art auction will be while in the onboard art gallery, you can always find that information in your cruise line’s app or the ship’s printed daily planner. If you talked to a Park West art concierge in the gallery, you’ll likely get a gorgeous invitation in your stateroom.
When you arrive at the auction, a cavalcade of color greets you excitedly and invites you to stroll past the array of vibrant canvases, intricate sculptures, and shimmering paintings on metal. The stately auction hall is full of art by legends like Peter Max and Mark Kostabi, paintings from emerging talents like Kre8 and Ashton Howard, original works by beloved Park West favorite Itzchak Tarkay , masterworks from Picasso, Rembrandt, Renoir, Dalí, and so much more.
Remember—even if you attend an auction, you are under no obligation to bid on or buy anything. Take it all in and enjoy yourself. Park West art auctions are an absolute blast. They’re theatrical events on par with anything on the cruise ship stage at night!
Before the auction starts, you’ll learn about pre-auction reserves and review auction rules. You’ll then be introduced to Park West Gallery, our history, and our mission of bringing fine art to everyone around the world.
After a short preview where you can walk around the room, look at the art up close, and maybe decide to put a pre-auction reserve sticker on a frame or two—the auction will begin!
The Park West art team works like a well-oiled machine. In a whirlwind of color, works of art are quickly ushered on and off the stage, bid cards are raised in the air, and the gavel is smacked to announce every acquisition. In between lots, as the team reorganizes the stage, the auctioneer will draw raffle tickets and give away bottles of bubbly, wine, bid credit coupons, and other goodies. It’s an orchestrated celebration of joy, energy, and fine art!
In addition to bidding on a single work of art, auction attendees also have the opportunity to register their interest in (still with no obligation to buy) mystery lots of artwork, bundles of art with a shared artist or theme, one-of-a-kind original works, artist-embellished serigraphs, sculptures, and Disney animation art, among other works.
Paying for Your Purchase
If you did fall in love with a work of art—one that speaks to you and that you simply had to have— congratulations! You are now a part of the Park West family!
Paying for your art is the easiest part of the art collecting process. Here’s what will happen: one of the art team members will speak to you at the auction and arrange a time for you to stop into the gallery—a time that works best for you and your cruise activity schedule. This way, you don’t need to worry about missing that specialty dinner, a spa appointment, or the headliner musical production in the theater.
You’ll be invited to sit down in the art gallery, discover how and why the art will be reframed in a new, pristine frame of the same design that the artist had selected, and be told approximately when your artwork will arrive at your door.
Receiving the Art at Your Door
The final step of the art collecting process is when that big box finally arrives at your home or office. This is the moment you’ve been anxiously waiting for, the one that began weeks ago, on a ship somewhere in Europe, Alaska, or the Caribbean.
Now, you’ll never forget that remarkable trip because every time you glance at that special work of art, that joyful Britto, evocative Godard, serene Kinkade, fantastical Cheval, or vibrant Tarkay, you will think back to those sunny days and magical nights—that cruise vacation when you became an art collector!
To learn more about buying art during a cruise vacation, register your voyage on our easy-to-use pre-registration page. By letting us know which ship you ’ ll be on and when you ’ ll be traveling, we ’ ll make sure your vacation is EXTRA special. Everyone who pre-registers will get a complimentary $100 art credit and a free gift when they check-in at the gallery during their voyage! Click HERE to register for your next cruise adventure!

Viewing and appreciating art can also be a great way to learn more about yourself. What pieces stand out to you? Is it the colors? The shapes? The medium? Does the art evoke an emotional reaction? What art you find beautiful is unique to you and it says something about who you are as a person.
Learn More About the Art World

Jumpstart Your Home Collection
Having a personal art collection is a wonderful hobby that many enjoy. Cruise ship art auctions are an opportunity to grow your own collection, no matter your taste in art. Park West curates works made from a variety of mediums and across various artistic styles. You can choose to accent your collection with unique pieces or follow a common theme throughout your personal gallery, it’s entirely up to you!

It’s an Exclusive Opportunity
The art sold on board cruise ships by galleries like Park West comes with a certificate of authenticity and they provide a complete description of each work sold. In many cases, the works have been archived by the gallery for many years prior to putting them up for auction so it’s fair to say the art is exclusive and challenging to find outside of a cruise art program. If you see something you like, chances are, you’ll never have the chance to bid on it again!
They’re Fun!
If you’ve never been to an auction before, art or otherwise, you might not realize how much fun and excitement there can be. Watching the speedy auctioneers take bids and command the room is entertainment in itself, but just wait until a bidding war breaks out over a Picasso sketch or a Rembrandt etching. You can feel the drama in the room! This isn’t a stuffy, monotone art lecture…it’s an interactive event with more action than most realize!

Free Champagne
Even if you aren’t looking to buy art on a cruise ship, those who attend the event are privileged to a free glass of bubbly when they arrive. Why not take a quick break from all the fun in the sun to enjoy a cold glass of sparkling wine and check out pieces by famous artists from all over the world!
You Can Pre-Register For Buying Credits
If you’re cruising soon, Park West is offering a $50 buying credit and a free gift to those who pre-register for their ship’s auction. Park West Gallery curates galleries on the following cruise lines: Carnival, Celebrity, MSC, Norwegian, Princess and Royal Caribbean. Anyone sailing on those cruise lines can pre-register quickly and easily on the Park West Gallery website.

The Art of the Cruise: Q&A with Park West Gallery
Wondering what a cruise ship art auction is all about? First: it’s exhilarating, exciting and educational, even if you don't know a thing about art. Second: it’s about learning to appreciate the finer things in life, which can include surprisingly affordable art - the ultimate of all vacation souvenirs! Imagine hanging a Thomas Kinkade in your living room or a colorful Peter Max at your office. Wow, what a great cruise memory you’ll be able to enjoy every day! Third: Did I mention there’s free champagne?
You don't have to be an art aficionado to buy what you love. Some of the Park West Gallery artists that have captivated me over the years include French painter Jean Claude Picot and Salvador Dali's Divine Comedy series, as well as artists Tomasz Rut from Poland and Shari Erickson of Atlanta.
Let’s learn more about the art of the cruise! Here’s my Q&A with Stoney Goldstein , Vice President of Sales for the land-based Park West Gallery of Southfield, Michigan. Since 1969, Park West has had the pleasure of helping over 2 million clients start a love affair with collecting art. They ship about 6,000 artworks to their clients every single week and proudly offer auctions on every ship in the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet, including the new Norwegian Bliss .
I don't know anything about art and I've never attended an onboard auction before. What's your advice?
The wonderful thing about art is that you don’t need to know anything to enjoy it. The best advice we can give is, “Follow your eye.” You will know when a certain work of art connects with you—you’ll just feel it. And, once an artwork catches your eye, don’t be afraid to ask questions!
Besides the art auctions, do you offer any other events onboard?
We're always very excited about our shipboard programming. These aren't just art shows-they're events! On a seven-day Norwegian Cruise Line itinerary, we will usually offer around three unique auctions, each with a different theme and featured artwork. You can come, have a glass of champagne on us, and watch the auctioneer go. If you've never attended a live auction before, it's quite an experience. Everyone who attends receives a small promotional artwork and then we do raffles for larger works throughout the auction.
But we don't just do auctions. Throughout a weeklong cruise, we also usually hold three to five different art seminars, receptions, or exhibitions. Our art experts might take you through 30,000 years of art history in 30 minutes or they might host a "night at the museum" evening art gala. Our goal is to make art engaging and fun for everyone.
I’ve heard that art is expensive.
We pride ourselves on carrying artwork that will fit every budget. If you just want one small painting for your living room or if you're completely redoing your corporate offices, we have an incredible variety of artwork available.
In fact, we recently rolled out an all-new e-gallery to all of our onboard galleries. If you can't find exactly what you're looking for on the ship, one of our personal art consultants can help you browse over 2,300 works in our digital galleries. We even have a tool that will allow you to try out different frames on each work in our e-gallery, so you can know exactly what it will look like when you get it home.
What art mediums will passengers see onboard Norwegian Cruise Line ships? Are there any new techniques?
Park West offers a huge variety of artistic mediums—unique paintings of all kinds, watercolors, etchings, graphic works, lithographs, sculptures—the list goes on and on.
Our artists are constantly experimenting with new and exciting mediums. We have two new mediums, in particular, that our artists and collectors absolutely love. One is called dye sublimation, where the artist uses an advanced technique to transfer their image onto glass, metal, or plastic surfaces. That's related to our other new medium, the caldograph, where the artist bonds their image onto a wooden panel-it's a modern twist on a classic medium. ("The Mona Lisa" was actually painted onto a wood panel!)
Are some art mediums more popular than others?
Our clients love variety, so it's hard to say if one medium or size is more popular than another. We sell art of all shapes and sizes. On Norwegian Cruise Line, we definitely see a lot of interest in artwork from Peter Max, Lebo, and Guy Harvey, which makes sense because all three have painted the hulls of Norwegian ships. It's no surprise, after seeing a work of art that big, that a cruiser might want to take a piece of that home with them.
For more information, read: A Closer Look at the Hull Art on Norwegian Cruise Line Ships .
I need an insider tip: what are your favorite up-and-coming artists you can get enough of?
Park West is always adding to our family of artists. Recently, we’ve fallen in love with the work of Matt Beyrer , who creates these breathtaking paintings on wood that really incorporate the grain of the materials he’s working with. In terms of up-and-coming names, we also adore Orlando Quevedo , a gifted magic realist from Cuba, and Alexandre Renoir , a brilliant landscape artist who is actually the great-grandson of the famous Impressionist Pierre-Auguste Renoir.
Why should I buy art onboard when I can buy it on land?
At Park West, we're big believers that art should be for everyone. One way we put that into practice is by holding our art auctions on cruise ships. We don't expect you to come to us-we're going to bring the art to you. While you're having the vacation of a lifetime, we want to make sure that you have access to some of the most beautiful art in the world. You can browse, you can learn more, or maybe you bring home something to brighten your kitchen or office. If you leave your cruise with a new passion for art, our mission is accomplished.
There seem to be some misconceptions about onboard art auctions, can you clarify?
A lot of people only know art auctions from movies, where they seem stuffy, snobby, and expensive. In reality, our auctions are the exact opposite. We want to welcome you. Come browse with us, have a drink with us, see the show, and ask us a million questions. We love it. And, with our 40/40/40 guarantee-where you can return any artwork for 40 days or exchange any artwork for 40 months-you don't have to worry about post-vacation buyer's remorse either.
Where can cruisers find out more about the artists Park West Gallery represents?
The best source of information is parkwestgallery.com . We have full biographies of all of our artists, galleries of their works, and feature articles and interviews where you can learn even more about them.
Does Park West Gallery offer physical land-based galleries?
Yes. Park West has a beautiful gallery in our hometown of Southfield, Michigan, which is also connected to the Park West Museum, a free-to-the-public museum where we display our private collections of old and modern masters like Picasso, Renoir, Rembrandt, and more. In addition to our home gallery, every year, Park West holds several traveling land events in vacation destinations all over the world. These are often made available to our VIP collectors and they can involve excursions, fine dining, auctions, and opportunities to meet some of your favorite artists.

How Cruise Ships Are Building Gallery-Worthy Art Collections
By Sunshine Flint
In recent years, cruise lines have done much to reshape the sailing experience: exploring partnerships with star-level chefs to elevate the food , investing heavily in luxury spa and wellness programs , and even revamping entertainment to include live DJs and drag brunches on board . Now, they're investing in another way to change the ships—onboard art collections.
The sheer number of works on even a small ship can be dizzying. The 600-passenger Seabourn Ovation carries 1,600 works of art from nearly 120 artists, while its sister ship, Seabourn Encore , has a similar number. Seabourn turned to Tal Danai, founder and CEO of art consultancy ArtLink , to source and commission all of the art for both. He and three curators worked closely with noted designer Adam Tihany, who led the design vision for the ships, to create a narrative to guide the project. For Ovation the theme was “revisited memories,” and the team created a mood board, complete with key words and touch points as well as possible artworks and artists, that they could reference when considering works.
Once the direction was set, the curators’ job was to work with artists to either purchase existing works or commission original pieces. Danai and his team wanted to make the corridors—the main arteries of the ship—places of interest. They put together hundreds of drawings, postcards, and books—and gave one each to the artists they worked with, asking them to imagine they bought it years ago or as if the postcard fell out of a book. “We told them to make a manifestation of what they felt, and we got beautiful works of art,” Danai said. “One artist embroidered a classic botanical drawing, one cut out the images from a book and left only text. Now, passengers walk by and look, and relate to a piece of art.”
Danai and his team also commissioned a number of craft pieces, including vases from Korean artist Yoo Eui Jeong, whose work is in museum collections in Korea and Norway. They commissioned artist Valeria Nascimento to create a black porcelain work for the wall of the ship's Japanese restaurant; they had her son, Lucas, create a white porcelain piece that hangs opposite, separated by a window.
The works in the Art Cafe on Silversea's Silver Muse was sourced primarily from emerging Italian artists.
Commissioning and purchasing pieces from living artists makes a lot of sense for luxury cruise ships on many levels, says Italian art curator Monica Cembrola , founder of Monica Cembrola for Art. For Silversea , she and her team of three curators gathered 600 works of contemporary art, most sourced directly from Italian artists, to create a collection themed “the lightness of travel” for the line's new 600-passenger Silver Muse . “We had a very conservative budget, so instead of going to galleries, we gave younger artists a chance and bought directly from them,” Cembrola says. “The artworks are imposing and intriguing, and the passengers notice—they post photos on Instagram.”
Artists like Donato Pompa are featured in the ship’s Art Cafe. While the artwork on board isn’t for sale, so many passengers inquired about purchasing works that Cembrola asked the artists to remake certain pieces to sell to them. Her team also curated the collection on the soon-to-launch Silver Moon, which is based around chromatic and figurative pop art, mixed media, and collage.
At Windstar , where speed is of the essence as they quickly grow their fleet of ships, most art in the new public spaces will be prints and lithographs from contemporary artists and photographers. “It’s cost-effective and faster,” says Ray Chung, director of design at the Johnson Studio at Cooper Carry. “We have three ships being fitted out in one year.” But the aim is always to keep passengers delighted with unexpected beauty and detail.
Windstar's new Cuadro 44 restaurant features Spanish-themed art and tableware.
That's not uncommon for cruise lines that know they have some advantages in how they display these works. When Ponant was building the 184-passenger Le Jacques Cartier explorer ship, they commissioned Paris-based graffiti artist Shuck One to create an ocean-and-nature themed piece on the raw steel of the ship. Then they covered it up—except for a secret porthole where passengers can catch a glimpse of the hidden work. “It’s a surprise and delight moment for passengers when they discover the piece,” says Jean Emmanuel Sauvée, president and CEO of the line.
It's a lesser-known aspect of cruising, but these lines are giving young and contemporary artists visibility and more paths to earn a living through their art. They're also surrounding passengers with original artwork, sculpture, tapestries, photography, and ceramics—enriching the cruise experience and creating moments of enchantment along the way.

Gallery devoted to customs officer-turned-artist George Wyllie opens in Scotland
The wyllieum is part of a new cruise ship visitor centre in greenock.
George Wyllie’s Thirty-two Spires for Hibernia (1994-96) will feature in the Wyllieum’s inaugural show Courtesy The George Wyllie Estate
A gallery dedicated to George Wyllie, who worked as a customs and excise officer for more than 30 years before becoming an artist, is set to open on 26 April in a new waterfront complex in Greenock, near Glasgow in Scotland.
The new space, known as the Wyllieum, stands alongside Wyllie’s former workplace, Custom House, and is part of a new cruise ship visitor centre called the Ocean Terminal.
Wyllie, who died in 2012 aged 90, is known for works such as Paper Boat (1989), a vast paper vessel that was launched on the River Clyde and toured to the US Another notable work is The Running Clock (1999), located outside Buchanan Bus Station in Glasgow.
Wyllie retired in his late 50s, when he decided to pursue a career in art. “The story goes that he stood on the steps of the customs house and declared that now was the time for art,” Will Cooper, the director of the Wyllieum, tells The Art Newspaper . Wyllie later became friends with the German artist Joseph Beuys.
Works shown will be mainly loaned from public and private organisations. “When George died, a large amount of the work was sold via auction, most of it to a single body [the Dunard Fund, a charitable trust founded by the former concert pianist Carol Colburn Grigor] that’s loaning the work to us,” Cooper adds.
“A lot of works are still with the estate, which are also on long-term loan to us. Other organisations, such as the Roberts Institute of Art, will also lend works.” Founded by the collector David Roberts, the institute plans to loan the piece Straw Locomotive (1987), a model of a suspended train engine made of straw.
The £20.1m Ocean Terminal scheme was delivered by Inverclyde Council via funding from the UK and Scottish governments (the Glasgow City Region City Deal provided £10.4m) along with contributions from the port operator Peel Ports (£8m) and the George Wyllie Foundation, which received £1.7m from the Dunard Fund.
“We have a really good fundraising team that have raised a significant amount of money, which will see us operating for the first few years,” Cooper says. “We have a decent deal with the council regarding our rates.
“What’s exciting is that George is a well-known artist, but I’m not sure the greater public have scratched at the surface,” he adds. “We can really dive more deeply into some of his ideas linked to ecological thinking, colonialism and post-colonialism, all subjects that concern artists now. George was doing it nearly 40 years ago.”
The inaugural show, called Spires (25 April-11 August), presents a selection of Wyllie’s eponymous simple sculptural forms, comprising a three-legged base with a vertical pole, held in place by a rock or stone. These stark pieces acted as “anti-monuments”, marking a specific time or place celebrating “wherever they stood”. Wyllie began making the spires in 1982 and, over the following decades, developed the structures for sites across the UK, Europe and the US.
Different aspects of Wyllie’s practice will be presented in two temporary shows annually, which will also feature other artists.
“His sculptures are brilliant, but the works on paper add an extra layer to the way that he thought about stuff,” Cooper says.
So, who will visit? “I think a certain Scottish audience will come and be really surprised and excited to see a new part of his practice that hasn’t really been shown before; this is similar to how we have reappraised other older artists over the last 20 years,” Cooper says.
The next exhibition in the space will be presented in collaboration with Sculpture House, an artist-led hub in neighbouring Paisley. The show, Home-Work (20 September-16 March 2025), will include works by artists including Laura Aldridge, James Rigler and Nick Evans.

George Wyllie art gallery to open in Greenock
T hirty-five years ago an 80ft-long paper boat was launched on the Clyde to highlight the loss of industry in the west of Scotland.
The artist behind the striking endeavor, George Wyllie, joked that "on paper" he was the only shipbuilder left on the Clyde.
Now Wyllie - who was renowned for his large-scale public art - is to be the subject of a new museum opening in Inverclyde this week.
The Wyllieum on Greenock's waterfront will house two temporary exhibitions of Wyllie's work and offer local artists the opportunity to display their responses to his art.
The museum forms part of the £20m cruise ship visitors' centre at the town's Ocean Terminal.
The location of the museum on Greenock's waterfront pays tribute to Wyllie's life.
Although born in Glasgow, he lived and worked in Inverclyde for many years.
Prior to becoming an artist in his 50s, he worked in Greenock's custom house as an excise officer for 30 years.
The gallery's inaugural display, Spires, was co-created by museum director Will Cooper and sculptor Sara Barker.
Starting in 1982, Wyllie's work on Spires utilised materials "borrowed" from shipyards on the Clyde which went on to be displayed across the world from the Inner Hebrides to Berlin.
Mr Cooper has collaborated with George's family and been given access to his archive of work which includes early sketches of Paper Boat and another famous work, Straw Locomotive.
It hung from the Finnieston Crane - over the River Clyde - in 1987.
He said: "The Wyllieum will present a space where we can all enjoy art that helps us to understand the world around us.
"George Wyllie was an incredibly progressive thinker - making work about climate change, colonial politics, and the growing power of an unregulated financial sector, all years ahead of their shift into mainstream public consciousness.
"He had the incredibly rare skill of taking these complex, multi-layered subjects and distilling them into direct and approachable works of art, where subjects are communicated with deftness and flair."
The free exhibit will be the largest collection of Wyllie's work in the world and continue his belief in art being a "public service".
Mr Cooper added: "We have a brilliant opportunity at the Wyllieum to share George’s thinking with the people of Greenock and beyond, offering a space where creativity, passion, empathy, and humour can become vital tools in our comprehension of an increasingly complex and fragmented world.
"George believed art was a public service, vital to our individual and collective wellbeing, a shared framework to tackle some of the world’s most challenging subjects. We think George was pretty spot on about that."
George Wyllie's daughter, Louise Wyllie, said it had been a joy to witness fresh energetic people bringing her father's work to new audiences.
"As a family, we are excited about [Mr Cooper's] plans. In his job as a Customs and Excise officer, my father spent a lot of time at the docks in Greenock where the Wyllieum now sits," she said.
"His family is invested in seeing this cultural space thrive. We recognise in Will and foundation chair, Michael Dale, the drive and ability to deliver a unique arts space for my father’s beloved Inverclyde and, of course, for Scotland.”

What can you do at Moscow City?
- Dine in style: Moscow City is home to 100+ cafes and restaurants, including Europe’s highest restaurant and ice-cream shop
- See Moscow like never before: Ascend to one of Moscow City’s observation decks for an unparalleled panorama of Moscow
- Admire world-class architecture: Each of Moscow City’s skyscrapers has distinctive architecture and design

Moscow City is a multifunctional complex in the west of Moscow, which has come to represent the booming business of Russia’s capital. Its skyscrapers enrich Moscow’s skyline, contrasting the medieval cupolas and Stalinist high-rises. Visitors to Moscow City can enjoy entertainment high in the sky, as the complex is home not just to offices, but to restaurants, cinemas, viewing platforms, and museums.

History of Moscow City
Moscow City was first conceived in 1991 by honoured Soviet architect Boris Tkhor, who proposed to construct a business center in Moscow. It would be complete with gleaming skyscrapers rivalling those of New York and London, to reflect the new life and growing ambitions of post-Soviet Russia.
The chosen site was a stone quarry and disused industrial zone in western Moscow, in between the Third Ring Road and Moskva River. Initially, the territory was divided into 20 sections arranged in a horseshoe shape around a central zone. The skyscrapers would increase in height as they spiralled around the central section, with shorter structures built on the waterfront to give the taller buildings behind a view of the river.
Architect Gennady Sirota, who contributed to iconic projects such as the Olympic Sports Complex on Prospekt Mira, was selected as the chief architect, and many other world-famous architects were attracted to Moscow to realise their visions in Moscow City.
What can you see and do at Moscow City?
Where Moscow’s cityscape was once dominated by Stalin’s Seven Sisters skyscrapers , this is no more. Moscow City is home to eight of Russia’s ten tallest buildings, six of which exceed 300 metres in height. More buildings are still under construction there today, including the One Tower (which will be Europe’s second-tallest building). Once completed, Moscow City will comprise more than 20 innovative structures.
Each of Moscow City’s skyscrapers was designed by its own architect, lending the cluster of skyscrapers a unique appearance. Aside from being a site of architectural wonder, Moscow City is a place for leisure and entertainment with over 100 cafes and restaurants, exhibition spaces, cinemas, viewing platforms, and more.

Federation Tower
- East Tower: 374m, 97 floors; West Tower: 243m, 63 floors
- Completed in 2017
- Architects: Sergey Tchoban and Peter Schweger
The East Federation Tower is the tallest building in Moscow, and the second-tallest building in Europe after the Lakhta Centre in St Petersburg. Visitors can enjoy a luxurious meal of seafood, truffles or steak at restaurant ‘Sixty’ on the 62nd floor of the West Tower, or visit Europe’s highest observation deck, ‘Panorama 360’, on the 89th floor of the East Tower.
Did you know? The ice cream and chocolate shop on the 360 observation deck are the highest in the world!
- South Tower: 354m, 85 floors; North Tower: 254m, 49 floors
- Completed in 2015
- Architect: Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP
The South OKO Tower is the third-tallest building in Russia and Europe. Here, you can visit ‘Ruski’ to dine on hearty Russian cuisine cooked on a real Russian stove, and have a drink in the ice bar. Alternatively, visit restaurant, nightclub and performance space ‘Birds’; the restaurant is the highest in Europe, situated on the 86th floor roof terrace alongside an observation deck. The OKO Towers are also home to karaoke club ‘City Voice’.
Did you know? Underneath OKO Towers is the largest underground parking in Europe, with 16 levels and 3,400 parking spaces.
Mercury Tower
- 339m tall, 75 floors
- Architects : Mikhail Posokhin, Frank Williams, Gennady Sirota
Another multifunctional skyscraper, which was designed as the first truly ‘green’ building in Moscow. The Mercury Tower has a distinct geometric shape and copper-coloured glazing, and was the tallest building in Europe upon completion. Visit ‘More i myaso’ (Sea and meat) on the first floor of the tower to enjoy European and Mediterranean cuisine whilst surrounded by greenery. On the 2nd and 40th floors a modern art gallery, the ‘ILONA-K artspace’, has just opened.
City of Capitals
- Moscow Tower: 302m, 76 floors; St Petersburg Tower: 257m, 65 floors
- Completed in 2009
- Architect: Bureau NBBJ
The unique geometric design of the City of Capitals towers resembles stacks of rotating blocks, and is rooted in Constructivism of the early Soviet period (many Soviet Constructivist buildings can be found in Moscow). Visitors to the Moscow Tower can enjoy a range of cuisines – traditional Italian dishes on the summer terrace of ‘Tutto Bene’, Panasian cuisine in the tropical luxury of the ‘Bamboo Bar’ on the 1st floor’, and poke or smoothie bowls at ‘Soul in the Bowl’ cafe on the 80th floor.
Tower on the Embankment
- Tower A: 84m; Tower B:127m; Tower C: 268m, 61 floors
- Completed in 2007
- Architects: Vehbi Inan and Olcay Erturk
After completion, the Tower on the Embankment was the tallest building in Europe, and is now the 13th tallest. It houses the headquarters of several large Russian and international companies, including IBM and KPMG. There are two cafes located on the 1st floor of Tower C – self-service café ‘Obed Bufet’ (Lunch Buffet) and Bakery Chain ‘Khleb Nasushchny’ (Daily Bread).
Evolution Tower
- 255m tall, 54 floors
- Architects: Philip Nikandrov and RMJM Scotland Ltd
Evolution is Moscow City’s most recognisable tower, and the 11th tallest building in Russia. Its façade is a true architectural marvel, comprising continuous strips of curved glazing spiralling high into the sky. According to the architect, Philip Nikandrov, the spiral shape of the tower honours centuries of architectural design in Russia, from the onion domes of St Basil's Cathedral to Vladimir Shukhov’s Tatlin Tower, a masterpiece of Constructivist design. Outside the Evolution tower is a landscaped terrace and pedestrian zone descending to the Presnenskaya Embankment, which was also designed by Nikandrov.
Did you know? Moscow’s largest wedding palace was supposed to be built on the site of the Evolution tower, though the project was abandoned.
- 239m tall, 60 floors
- Completed in 2011
Imperia’s interesting design has a curved roof and an arched glass façade. Inside the tower are various cafes including ‘City Friends’ for all-day breakfasts and light lunches, ‘Mama in the City’ for simple meals of Russian cuisine, and ‘abc kitchen’ for European and Indian-inspired dishes. Alternatively, visit ‘High Bar’ on the 56th floor for cocktails with a view. In Imperia you’ll also find the Museum of High-Rise Construction in Moscow (suitably located on the 56th floor), and the Camera Immersive Theatre.
Did you know? Inside Vystavochnaya metro station is the Metro Museum , dedicated to the history of the beautiful Moscow Metro!
- 130m tall, 26 floors
- Completed in 2001
- Architect: Boris Tkhor
Tower 2000 was Moscow City’s first tower. It stands on the opposite bank of the Moskva River, and houses a viewing platform from which visitors can admire an unparalleled panorama of Moscow City. The Bagration Bridge reaches across the river from the tower to Moscow City, and underneath are piers from where you can take boat trips.
