Top 5 airlines flying to Worldwide

Landing was kinda fast and my ears were plugged for days after.

Paid for early bird. Basically paid for nothing. Would have been in the same spot regardless since the entire plane family preboarded between A and B. If they can’t give you A they should be required to refund the early bird fee. Also I don’t know what the issue is with the flight attendants but their attitudes need to change.

Southwest is always good and effective. Would be nice if they raised the pre-boarding age a couple years. Would hate to have our 7 year old daughter sit by a complete stranger because of a goitch when i check in and get a late boarding number.

It was good. I wish you had gluten free snacks for my husband.

2 hour delayed departure, then sat on the tarmac for 30 minutes waiting for a gate in SRQ

As always it was a pleasure to fly on southwest.

Excellent! There was a delay due to the weather and they did all they could do to keep us comfortable & updated. Thank you!

Would have liked screens on the back of each seat.

With COVID still around, I wish they wouldn't bunch us up so much at the boarding gates.

Seat were uncomfortable. Snacks were a bag of hard mix things.

The messaging about the change in flight destination and options for getting to SFO was poor. There should have been frequent updates. When I spoke to the boarding agent moment before we were supposed to board, he was flippant and offered no help before the announcement was made that transportation would be arranged. It was as poor of an experience that I've ever had.

This leg was better than the previous leg mostly because I upgraded my searing and the crew was nicer

I like that we took off on time and arrived a bit early. I like that I could gate check my bag and board early. I don't like how crowded the flight was. I had ok leg room, but could feel every move of the person next to me. And the aisles are very narrow. The gate and flight crews were terrific.

I was not given a seat when I bought the ticket. I know airlines are trying to squeeze every penny out ot the customer, but we are buying a seat on the airplane, right? I find this irritating with all airlines, but especially Alaska because I fly it so often. No sense of customer use and loyalty.

The cabin temperature was very warm. Flight attendant did not help when my 3 YO needed to go to the bathroom and it was close to landing time. She knocked and opened the door. I would appreciate more empathy towards the situation.

I’m a first time mom and traveled with my 18mo old boy and it was not a great experience with the flight attendants. They were not friendly or helpful at all. It’s hard enough traveling with a toddler and have people be rude and unkind does not help.

The cabin stewart took care of my garment bag and then made sure I did not forget it on my way out. The stewardess gave me water after I missed the earlier service (I was asleep). I received good service overall.

Both flights from NYC to SFO were delayed more than an hour. No wifi, no screens/movies etc. The crew was nice.

I missed my flight and was not able to rebook. I switched to jet blue for a same day flight. Both legs were cancelled. Unacceptable.

Held up on the first leg of our flight the captain asked everyone to remain seated so that we and two others could deplane quickly to catch out tight connection which we did successfully.

I'm a larger, athletic guy (6'2", 260lbs powerlifter) and I found the seats incredibly uncomfortable with minimal leg room, especially in a window seat. Now, I full understand that being smaller may change my view but even if I was 80lbs less, my legs would be the same size and I was sandwiched between my seat and the seat in front of me.

Horrible. This was not first class. This was a connecting flight whi h was late. My original flight never came. I hated the fact that delta gave me a connecting flight from New York to Orlando Florida. No meals and the television screens were not working. There wasn't even any power to charge your phones. This is NOT FIRST CLASS DELTA!!! Do better next time!

This flight was ridiculous. I had to have a connecting flight from New York to orlando Florida??? The flight left late and because it was a short flight there was no first class amenities. I had one alcohol drink. The flight crew was fine, but it sure did not feel like first class. Delta to me dropped the ball by giving me a connecting flight. By the time we got to Raleigh we would have missed the next flight. Lucky for me the flight never came so now I was stuck waiting for a later flight that came in late also.

Flight was delayed an no one make an announcement about it., they only have Coca Cola and nothing else., the food that was served was cold… very bad experience and service

Seat back monitors and outlets were dead and not working.

Service was good for such a short flight. Small plane but smooth flight.

The flight was delayed but we got to our final destination.

Uncomfortable seats on 14 hour flight. Mediocre food. On time and great crew.

public website still broken for years randomly blocking browsers with privacy options active after loading a page maybe once. check-in on laptop was almost impossible but eventually randomly worked. had to print pass at airport since couldn't get back in to load digital pass on mobile firefox or chrome. red eye flight so smooth onboarding, plenty of room to spread out, easy offboarding. onboard wifi instructions mention vpn can cause problems connecting but fails to also mention private dns. no printed or built in menu list, seems weird to require personal device to point at qr code link for menu which does not even allow direct ordering. people with health condition risk related dietary restrictions trying to avoid for example cholesterol and sugar are left guessing what they can order either way without nutritional info highlights (cranberry juice was minute maid cocktail with as much suger as typical can of soda). tap to pay wasn't working and always seems sketchy to manually enter card info. good movie variety, so limited tv was okay.

The helpful attitude of the staff, and being a wheelchair passenger everyone was helpful and understanding. The trip was made comfortable by the upgraded seat which was given without my request, that was a great surprise. Thank you Delta.

Terrible. Flight was cancelled due to the weather in the east and sout east(florida). Did not get any compesation of any kind. According to them, it was not under their control so I lost all the money paid for the 2 fairs from Raleigh, NC to Orlando, Fl.

There were multiple delays but JetBlue tried to make the boarding and departure process as quick and efficient as possible. The crew was as detached from reality as could be, meaning: not very friendly and just doing things by the numbers.

Nothing. Jet Blue is a great choice for me And I’m going to miss flying with them Since I travel to Lima Peru very often 😞😞😞

40 minute delay before take off after boarding flight. Bright lights throughout night flight due Issues with light panels. In flight Entertainment nonfunctional

Another horrible Jet Blue experience. This airline has suffered the biggest decline of all from best to worst. TVs didn’t work (again). internet was temperamental. Boarded late and couldn’t get organized to serve snacks.

I hate their constant delays! It’s as if I cannot confidently make plans for timing when I'm traveling with them. I slept through it, so all I can say is it was good.

There was no wheelchair or wheelchair escort at the gate..unacceptable

Did not wait long for wheelchair and attendant to arrive after checking in. Wheeled down to plane Was greeted with a smile when entering the plane Choice of snacks was very limited to 2 items. Seats are uncomfortable. My butt was sore after the 1st hour of flying. Needs better cushioning at seats.

Did not wait long for wheelchair and attendant to arrive after checking in. Wheeled down to plane Was greeted with a smile when entering the plane Choice of snacks was very limited to 2 items.

One hour delayed departure resulted in problems with planned ground transportation at my destination.

No water for a 5 hour flight entertainment not working seats with little room for knees when person in front of me reclined kept bumping my knees.

I did not like anything, first time I use company and for sure it will be the last time, they charge for simple operations that any other average airline wouldn't charge.

The good thing is the flight was on time and the crew was really nice. They can work better the arriving with staff

The inflight entertainment did not work on a 6 hour flight The cel phone chargers did not work There was a 45 minute wait for the luggage to get off the plane.

Seat space was terrible no food on a six hour flight

There was no bag included in the reservation. The price was double. Not properly advertised

Awful. I checked in online and there was no option to pay for baggage, at the airport when I checked in my baggage was received and Iwas not charged. When I got to LA during the boarding process I was told I didn't pay for baggage, the crew resolved I was let in the plane. When I got to my final destination my baggage was not there. It took me two days to receive my baggage. Bad service ever!

There was no food or drink service, couldn’t even get a glass of water for free. It was a long and expensive flight to not offer food or beverage on the plane.

There is no food. There is no in-inflight entertainment. The seats are cardboard. The airline is a living hellscape.

My experience was amazing! They helped my elderly mother board on early through a wheelchair and were accommodating to have us sit together since our seats were in different locations. When landing at the airport in GUA they were very helpful with full of hospitality.

How to Find the Best Discount Business Class Flights

Melanie Lieberman is the senior travel editor at The Points Guy and was an editor at Travel + Leisure.

business class travel quotes

Premium class perks — from lie-flat seats to swanky airport lounges to unlimited complimentary cocktails — may seem out of reach for many travelers. After all, business class flights easily cost $2,500 round-trip

But that doesn’t mean you need a corporate card or hoards of points to experience the upper echelons of air travel.

Whether you're looking for a business class or a first class ticket, travelers can find cheap business class tickets by watching for flight deals, including airline promotions and mistake fares , participating in auctions, and shopping with more affordable airlines.

Travelers should also study up on the differences between business and first class cabins, as well as the differences between coach and business class. Each airline defines these cabins differently, and while a business class seat on Lufthansa's new Boeing 777's might look like a modern throne, a business class ticket on a regional budget airline may be much less luxurious.

Understanding the differences between the various fare classes will help you better spot a deal and determine how much more you're willing to pay for an upgrade.

Business Class Flight Deals

Emirates, for example, often sponsors flash sales. But while many airlines put only their economy seats on sale, this Gulf carrier also slashes ticket prices on business class seats.

During their most recent Cyber Monday sale, round-trip business class seats on board this world-class airline started at $2,999 round-trip to Italy. Typically, these seats cost over $5,000. The airline has also been known to sell 2-for-1 business class flights, making it easier for you and your travel partner to fly like VIPs.

The all-business class airline La Compagnie also runs regular promotions, which might include $1,000-flat flights between Yew York City and Paris. The perks include access to airport lounges, Caudalie amenity kits, free checked bags, and complimentary Wi-Fi.

Deep discounts on business class flights can also be generated by accident. That’s when a $1,009.20 one-way business class ticket becomes a $1,009.20 round-trip ticket, offering 50 percent savings for lucky travelers.

Thrifty Traveler recently noticed such a mistake from Aeromexico. Lie-flat business class seats on flights to Chile were selling for $1,092 round-trip (standard economy tickets often cost upwards of $800), while tickets to Peru were only $548 round-trip (recliner-style seats only).

Of course, travelers interested in booking a discounted premium fare don’t need to stick to business class. Last month, The Flight Deal reported $1,522 round-trip fares from the West Coast to London in Air France’s ultra-luxurious La Première cabin.

Mistake fares such as these, however, must be booked with caution. While rare, airlines can refuse to honor these deals. While travelers will receive full refunds, they should be cautious about booking additional plans (such as hotels and tours) until they receive a ticket confirmation from the airline.

Beyond straightforward airfare sales, travelers can also get cheap first and business class flights by stockpiling miles during mileage flash sales . In 2016, travel blogger Sam Huang used a 90-percent off mileage flash sale with Garuda Indonesia to take a first class flight (typically $7,000) for only $76.

Business Class Auctions

Travelers wondering how to get cheap business class tickets without waiting for a flight deal may also be interested in premium cabin auctions. A number of major airlines, including Cathay Pacific, Virgin Atlantic, and Etihad, have introduced a bidding process to help sell remaining business and first class seats.

Typically, travelers should bid at least 20 percent below market price, which you can determine with a bit of research. Mid-day flights to leisure destinations are more likely to have premium seat availability, and not all tickets will be eligible for an upgrade. To improve your chances, be sure to book directly with the airline.

In addition to these online auctions, most airlines offer travelers the chance to purchase upgrades upon check-in, though this may not result in such deep savings.

Fly With a Cheaper Airline

Not all business class experiences are equal, which is why travelers might have better luck with lesser-known, regional, or low-cost airline.

The Icelandic budget carrier WOW Air, for example, has a product called WOW Biz. It's not your typical business class — the best possible seat is extra wide and features a foot rest, but you won't get to bed down on a lie-flat model. You will, however, enjoy plenty of other premium perks like complimentary checked luggage, a free inflight meal, and priority boarding.

And JetBlue's Mint seats may be one of the best premium offerings in the sky — particularly when you consider the price tag. According to The Points Guy , it's possible to score one-way Mint-class flights from New York City to the Caribbean for under $300.

In these elegant premium seats (all of which lie-flat and some of which are available as private suites with sliding doors), travelers can snack on seasonal tapas while sampling curated Birchbox amenity kits.

While the cheapest business class tickets are typically on short-haul flights, it is possible to experience a cheap international business class flight on these carriers.

The Best Business Class Flights to Book with American AAdvantage Miles

Ethan Steinberg

Update: Some offers mentioned below are no longer available. View the current offers here .

Anyone who's ever redeemed American AAdvantage miles knows how aggravating it can be to try and find saver level award space . Sometimes you won't see any low-level space on certain routes for months at a time. Other times, American will force you to make ridiculous connections if you want to redeem your miles (seriously, there is no scenario where a flight from Tampa (TPA) to New York (LGA) should require two different connections .)

Despite all this, AA miles can still offer amazing value for international business class redemptions, and it's often easier to find award space. Between Oneworld alliance members and American's other partners, AAdvantage miles give you access to some of the best business class seats in the air. So if you're considering applying for the newly refreshed Citi / AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard — which is currently offering 60,000 bonus miles after $3,000 in purchases in the first three months after account opening — here are some of the best ways to redeem those miles for business class travel.

The information for the Citi AAdvantage Platinum card has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

Qatar Qsuite

Where to find this seat: new york (jfk), washington, dc (iad), chicago (ord) (routes subject to change), aadvantage award cost: 70,000 miles one-way to the middle east and india.

The first spot on this list undeniably belongs to Qatar's "first in business" class product, the Qsuite. These fully enclosed suites can be found on select 777-300ER aircraft, as well as all Airbus A350-1000s (which don't fly to the US at the moment). Qatar currently operates Qsuite-equipped planes on one of their two daily frequencies between Doha (DOH) and New York (JFK), as well as to Chicago (ORD) and Washington, DC (IAD).

Qatar only has a handful of planes featuring these seats ( now that sounds familiar... ), and while the JFK route seems pretty consistent, the IAD and ORD routes might be subject to some last minute equipment swaps while Qatar works through the retrofit process.

business class travel quotes

TPG' s Editor-at-Large Zach Honig got the chance to take the Qsuite for a spin and is absolutely convinced that this is the world's best business class product, period. If the sliding doors and sleek cabin design aren't enough to convince you, the modular middle seats that can turn into a double bed or a quad, as well as dine-on-demand catering and an excellent business class lounge in Doha should do the trick.

You'll want to stay away from Qatar's old 777s that feature an outdated 2-2-2 business class configuration, but if you can't find Qsuite award space, Qatar's Airbus A350-900s (which fly to JFK, BOS, and PHL) should still be on your radar .

JAL Sky Suites

Where to find this seat: tokyo haneda (hnd) to san francisco (sfo) and new york (jfk), tokyo narita (nrt) to jfk, chicago (ord) and los angeles (lax), aadvantage award cost: 60,000 miles one-way to tokyo and korea, 70,000 miles to the rest of asia.

While Japan Airlines flies several other US routes, the best business class product in its fleet is currently only available on 777-300ER and select 787 aircraft. The 777s fly daily from New York (JFK), Chicago, and LA to Tokyo Narita, and from JFK and San Francisco to Tokyo's closer Haneda (HND) airport.

Definitely pick a window seat if you can get it.

While the aisle seats in this configuration are certainly solid, the window seats offer almost as much privacy as a fully enclosed suite. When the privacy partition between seats is raised, the only way to reach your seat is through a small walkway in front of the aisle seats that adds to the legroom. Onboard, you'll be treated to fresh Japanese cuisine, a wide selection of saké and the impeccable service Japan is known for.

Cathay Pacific A350

Where to find this seat: new york/newark (ewr), san francisco (sfo), vancouver (yvr) and washington, dc (iad) as of september 15, 2018, aadvantage award cost: 70,000 miles one-way to asia.

While all of Cathay's long-haul fleet feature a nearly identical business class product, there are a few reasons to pick the A350 if you can. Not only are these the newest planes in Cathay's fleet — and therefore the ones in the best shape — but you also get to enjoy the relaxing technology benefits of Airbus' next generation aircraft. These include higher cabin pressurization, better temperature control and mood lighting to help fight the effects of jet lag on ultra long-haul routes to and from Hong Kong (HKG).

business class travel quotes

As an added "benefit," these planes don't feature a first class cabin, so you won't feel left out! I got to fly in a 6-month-old A350 from Hong Kong to Bangkok (BKK) last summer, and I'm already looking for a chance to book it again on a longer flight.

Etihad A380 or 787

Where to find this seat: new york (jfk-a380), washington, dc (iad-787).

Etihad is best known for their gigantic and stunning First Class "Apartments" aboard the A380, but the carrier also offers a premium experience slightly further back in the plane. While Etihad flies to other US destinations, including Chicago and LA, you'll want to stick to the east coast to get their best product — the "business studio."

business class travel quotes

These seats are incredibly chic and feel like a mini-office , complete with plenty of surface space and a dazzling reading lamp. The staggered layout gives you plenty of choices — private window seats if you're traveling alone, or the cozier side-by-side "honeymoon" configuration in the middle.

American 787-9, 777-300ER and Retrofitted 777-200

Where to find this seat: long-haul and high profile routes, including many flights to asia, europe, and south america, aadvantage award cost: 57,500 miles one-way to europe, 60,000-70,000 to asia.

Yes, American miles can also be used on actual American planes for great business class redemptions. You just need to be selective, as the airline has almost as many different styles of business class seating as they do planes, and there are clear winners and losers .

business class travel quotes

The reverse herringbone seats you'll find onboard American's 777-300ER, 787-9 and retrofitted 777-200 aircraft are by far the best. These seats are spacious, private and relatively new, and you can find them on many of AA's longest routes to Asia, Europe and South America. Since these larger planes usually fly out of AA hubs like LAX or Miami (MIA), you'll likely also get access to one of American's new Flagship Lounges to relax and refresh before your flight.

What's NOT on This List

Noticeably absent from this list is one of the biggest Oneworld carriers: British Airways. Even on their newest planes, BA business class is in an abnormally dense configuration — five seats per row where other airlines put four. Many airlines use the space of a massive double decker Airbus A380 to innovate and differentiate their products, but British Airways did not, instead deciding to go with fold-down footrests and seats that are exposed to the noise and traffic of the aisles.

business class travel quotes

Add in the $400+ fuel surcharges that come with most BA award tickets and you have plenty of reasons to steer clear. I've heard a lot of people say that British Airways first class is more like a pretty good business class product. I guess that makes their business class more like a mediocre premium economy? Sure, you'll get a lie-flat bed, lounge access and priority boarding, but prepare yourself to overpay and be underserved, or you'll walk away sorely disappointed.

American Airlines offers business class on long-haul international flights as well as transcontinental flying between major markets like New York and Los Angeles or San Francisco. American Airlines refers to its top-tier business class product as Flagship Business.

Flagship Business class has a lot of great perks to offer. Here’s what to expect when traveling in an American Airlines Flagship Business class cabin.

» Learn More: The guide to the American Airlines AAdvantage program

In addition to purchasing an American Airlines business class ticket outright, travelers can also get a business class seat by redeeming AAdvantage miles .

The mileage cost depends on what route you're flying and the demand for that flight. If you're flexible, you can book American Airlines business class between the U.S. and Europe for as few as 75,000 AAdvantage miles each way.

AAdvantage members also have the option to redeem miles to upgrade after purchasing an eligible economy or premium economy ticket. Just note that mileage upgrades typically require a cash copay. Depending on where you're flying, a mileage upgrade may not be the best value.

Complimentary upgrades to Flagship Business are available to all AAdvantage elite members on transcontinental flights and flights to Hawaii. AAdvantage elites generally need to be booked on a paid ticket — not an award ticket — to be eligible for an upgrade. However, Executive Platinum elites can even score an upgrade on award tickets.

In addition, flyers can use systemwide upgrades to upgrade to American Airlines Flagship Business class for no additional cost. AAdvantage members can select systemwide upgrades through the American Airlines Loyalty Point Rewards program or earn them upon reaching Million Miler status .

The latter are impressive lounges with large buffets offering sushi, soups and salads. Self-serve bars offer a wide range of cocktails, wines, beers and champagne while refrigerators stock bottled water, juices and sodas.

Unique to London, it features a place to relax with a cup of coffee, refreshments, breakfast and showers. The lounge also offers clothes pressing so travelers can head straight to a meeting from the airport.

All American Airlines Flagship Business class seats can recline 90 degrees into fully-flat seats. Even better, on all American Airlines Boeing 777 and 787 aircraft, each seat offers direct aisle access — meaning travelers don't have to step over anyone to move around the cabin.

However, some American Airlines business class seats are better than others. Here's our breakdown of the best business class seats on American Airlines.

Best American Airlines business class seats

After a massive fleet simplification in 2020, American Airlines offers four types of business class seats. Here's our ranking of how they stack up.

1. Safran Cirrus II seats (Boeing 777-300ER)

The business class seat found on American Boeing 777-300ER aircraft is generally regarded as American Airlines' best business class seat. This reverse-herringbone business class seat is spacious, offers well-designed storage compartments, easily accessible outlets and seat controls. Most importantly, this seat avoids the pitfalls of other American Airlines business class seats.

Safran Cirrus II seats (Boeing 777-300ER)

These business class seats are found on all American Airlines Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. That means you can book this aircraft and know that you'll have an excellent business class seat. Unfortunately, that's not true for other American Airlines aircraft.

2. Collins Aerospace Super Diamond seats (Boeing 787-9, 777-200 and 787-8)

American Airlines' new business class standard is the Super Diamond seat. These seats are well-regarded for all facing forward, offering a variety of storage and feeling spacious.

Collins Aerospace Super Diamond seats

The only ding against these seats is with the tray table. The tray table is stored under the in-flight entertainment screen, reducing the clearance of the footwell. Side sleepers may feel a bit squeezed in the thigh or knees when trying to sleep with the seat fully reclined.

Collins Aerospace Super Diamond seats

Super Diamond business class seats are found on all American Airlines 787-9 aircraft, over half of 777-200 aircraft and the newest deliveries of 787-8 aircraft. On these newest aircraft, the seat has been improved even more with the addition of an adjustable privacy screen between middle seats.

3. Safran Concept D seats (Boeing 787-8 and 777-200)

American Airlines "Concept D" business class seats are typically considered American Airlines' worst long-haul business class seats. These seats alternate between forward- and rear-facing seat pairs.

Safran Concept D seats

The seats are connected to one another and aren't anchored down properly. So, when your seatmate moves, you'll feel it. These seats also don't have as much storage as the Super Diamond business class seats.

You can tell that your aircraft has Concept D seats by looking at the seat map. American Airlines places a reverse arrow on seats that face backward.

flight map with Safran Concept D seats

You'll find Concept D installed on most American Airlines Boeing 787-8 aircraft and just under half of American's Boeing 777-200 fleet.

4. Collins Diamond seats (Airbus A321T)

Last place goes to the business class seats on American Airlines' A321T — which operate transcontinental flights such as New York to Los Angeles and San Francisco. That's for a simple reason: All seats don't have aisle access.

Collins Diamond seats

These aircraft have two business class seats on either side of the single aisle. That means window passengers have to climb over the aisle seat passenger to access the aisle. Still, this is a perfectly fine seat to fly across the country.

American Airlines Flagship Business class seats offer ample storage space with nooks for smaller items and side pockets to store tablets or phones. Some have flip-up storage spaces for other things like eyeglasses and reading material. Power outlets are at every seat and generally within easy reach.

aa business class seating

Onboard, passengers will find a bottle of water waiting at their seat, as well as an amenity kit (short-haul Hawaiian flights don’t get amenity kits). There is also a comfy duvet and oversized pillow, which are part of American’s partnership with Casper bedding.

A wide variety of movies, TV shows, audio programming and often live TV is available on large screens at each seat. American also gives passengers access to Apple Music while they are flying. To enjoy the entertainment, noise-reducing headphones are given to each passenger.

Unfortunately, these headphones are often collected about one hour before landing — which can be annoying if you aren't finished enjoying the in-flight entertainment. Flight attendants generally offer low-quality earbuds as an alternative.

All American aircraft that offer Flagship Business class seating feature in-flight Wi-Fi for a charge.

» Learn More: The guide to airlines' in-flight entertainment

Before the flight, American Airlines flight attendants offer trays of orange juice, water and sparkling wine. Printed menus are delivered to each passenger (or are waiting at each seat) to explain in-flight offerings.

food in aa flagship business

Multi-course meals begin with warm nuts and a tablecloth placed on the tray table. American uses aisle serving carts for its service, which speeds up delivery, but is not exactly a premium experience. Drink refills are typically plentiful and followed by a tray with an appetizer, salad and warm bread.

meal in aa flagship business

American is the official airline partner of the James Beard Foundation, and some of the menu choices have been designed by talented chefs. Travelers can choose from one of several main courses, which usually consist of a beef, poultry, seafood and pasta option.

aa flagship business meal selection

Dessert usually includes a cheese plate or ice cream sundae with toppings that are added upon request.

aa flagship business dessert

Customers can pre-select their meal 30 days before departure via the airline’s website. In addition to the standard menu choices, there is a choice of special meals like Asian vegetarian, diabetic and Kosher options. Meals must be pre-ordered at least 24 hours before departure. Otherwise, passengers can always choose their selection from the standard menu on the flight.

On Boeing 777 and select 787-9 aircraft, American offers a food and drink station where business class passengers can help themselves to water, sodas, sandwiches, snacks and other refreshments. Other aircraft offer in-flight snacking stations on long flights, but it tends to be at the front of the business class cabin.

On many American Airlines aircraft, business class and first class can be used interchangably. That's because only two American Airlines aircraft offer both a Flagship Business and Flagship First Class cabin — the Airbus A321T and Boeing 777-300ER. On other long-haul international aircraft, Flagship Business class is the best cabin that you can book.

On most domestic and short-haul international aircraft, the front cabin is referred to as "first class" but is typically no more than a larger recliner seat with better food and drink service.

Yes, international and domestic business class receive complimentary drinks — including a variety of beers, wines and spirits to complement the food menu. Note that short flights might not offer a full drink service.

Yes, whether you’re flying domestically or internationally, all American Airlines Flagship Business class seats recline fully into lie-flat seats. However, on domestic and short-haul international flights on American Airlines single-aisle jets, first class and business class seats typically only recline a few inches.

All Flagship Business class passengers — including passengers on transcontinental domestic flights, qualifying Flagship flights to Hawaii or qualifying international routes — have access to American Airlines Flagship Lounge and Admirals Club lounges .

What It's Like to Fly in the Leihōkū Suites, Hawaiian Airlines' New Business Class Cabin

By Madison Flager

Last week, Hawaiian Airlines held the inaugural flights aboard its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner plane, a moment six years in the making. The plane was named “Kapuahi” after a star that holds cultural and navigational significance to the Polynesian wayfinders, some of the first people to make this voyage across the Pacific.

The inaugural Dreamliner flights departed from Honolulu for San Francisco , then returned the next day. For the next month or so, Kapuahi will fly between the Bay Area and Hawaii's capital once a day before adding routes to Los Angeles and Phoenix . By the end of this year, the carrier is scheduled to add two more Dreamliners to its fleet.

I flew on Hawaiian's second Dreamliner flight from SFO to HNL and there was much to celebrate as passengers and employees ushered in the airline's new flagship aircraft; live Hawaiian music and hula welcomed us at the gate, and leis were handed out as we boarded. But it's what's inside the plane that will make the biggest difference for travelers, thanks to the completely redesigned cabins and brand-new business class product, the Leihōkū Suites.

Below, details of Hawaiian's new premium economy and business class products, as well as Apartment 1929, the airline's exclusive lounge you'll want to gain access to for one last taste of the islands before leaving paradise.

The outdoor section of Hawaiian Airlines new lounge Apartment 1929

In Apartment 1929, you can squeeze in a little more time outdoors before boarding your flight home.

The airport experience

For a hands-off, curb-to-airport-door experience , travelers can now purchase Hawaiian Airlines' new Premium Airport Service at the Honolulu airport. This service starts at $500 for two people; travelers can call or email the airline directly to book the service , which is not included in any ticket class.

For departures, this starts with a handler greeting you at the terminal or rental car facility. They will then carry your bags, expedite you through security (it's even faster than Clear or TSA PreCheck ), and escort you to Apartment 1929, the exclusive new lounge only available to Premium Airport Service customers.

Capped at just 24 guests, the indoor-outdoor space feels like the oversized living room of a very well-to-do friend. As soon as the door shuts, the airport chatter is silenced and the smell of gardenia hits your nose—impressive on its own—but even more so when you round the corner and see the well-decorated lounge and grassy exterior space that lets you sneak in one last ray of sunshine before boarding your flight.

Apartment 1929 guests enjoy a three-course meal (a concierge emailed me about a week in advance to take my order), and drinks are on offer from a beverage menu curated by Bar Leather Apron , a cocktail bar in Honolulu. When you're ready to board (with the option to be the first on the aircraft), you'll be driven on a golf cart over to the gate.

Just next to Apartment 1929 is Hawaiian Airlines' more classic Plumeria Lounge , reserved for Business Class guests, East Coast First Class guests, and Pualani Platinums flying internationally. A level below is the Premier Club , which is open more widely to North America and Neighbor Island First Class guests, Pualani Gold & Platinum Elites, and Premier Club members.

Hawaiian Airlines' new Dreamliner planes feature 34 Leihōkū Suites.

Onboard comforts

On the way to Honolulu , I was seated in the first row of the premium economy, or Extra Comfort, cabin. I had more than enough leg room, especially as I was in a bulkhead seat. While this meant I had to store my personal item for takeoff and landing, I still had access to a pull-up entertainment system and fold-out table for meals. The seats were comfortable, and the extra-large windows helped the space feel a little more open than on older or smaller planes. If you're considering upgrading from the Main Cabin, but not all the way to Business Class, I'd say it's absolutely worth it for any flights over, say, four hours, to give yourself some extra breathing room.

2024 Readers' Choice Awards Survey

Charlie Hobbs

On the return flight, I experienced the highly-anticipated Leihōkū Suites. There are 34 of these lie-flat seats onboard, making it the largest business class cabin in Hawaiian's fleet and the first to have sliding doors, allowing for a nice level of privacy. The suites, set up in a 1-2-1 configuration, with the option to combine the middle two for companions or families, offer plenty of space to spread out and get comfortable—I'm 5'6" and had a good half a foot of extra leg room when the seat was fully extended. A pillow and blanket was provided, though no pajamas. (Of note when booking the Leihōkū Suites: Hawaiian has historically referred to its front cabin as first class on domestic flights and as business class on international flights.)

The 18" entertainment system is loaded up with new release movies, rewatch-favorite TV shows like Friends and Gilmore Girls, popular current shows like Abbott Elementary , and Hawaii-made music videos and documentaries on Hana Hou! TV. Along with personal charging outlets, a wireless cell phone charging station is conveniently placed next to the headrest.

Throughout the plane, those large windows are configured to different lighting modes throughout the flight, meant to delineate between dining, sleeping, and wake-up times. (Early in the flight these can be adjusted individually by the person in the window seat, but at some point a central programming takes over.)

Onboard WiFi is not yet enabled, unfortunately, though the hope is to get it up and running by the end of the year or early next. Hawaiian Airlines is in the process of rolling out Starlink internet across its A231 and A330 planes first.

Dreamliner design

In designing the plane's interiors, executive vice president and chief marketing officer Avi Mannis says the brand channeled on-the-ground hospitality spaces, particularly new hotel design in Hawaii , and aimed to evoke a sense of place. Following suit with much of Hawaiian design, the plane tells a story, Mannis says: one of Polynesian wayfinding, or navigation. Fiber optics in the ceiling simulate a starry night, wood-like slats in the airplane's entryway are inspired by canoes, and boxy, geometric silhouettes are softened to present a wave-like feel throughout the plane.

It is in fact a beautiful aircraft. When I first boarded, my eyes were immediately drawn to the dome in the entryway; it's a standard feature on 737s, but in this one, there are leaf designs etched into it.

In between attempts to snooze, take a look around at your surroundings: When not in night mode, the simulated cabin sky depicts soft daylight or soothing sunrises and sunsets. Different lavatories feature different patterned wallpapers (and excellent-smelling coconut hand soap), and the light-up bathroom icons were custom-made to include a Hawaiian shirt and dress. These small, thoughtful details aren't necessary, but they do add some fun and whimsy to the start (or end) of your vacation.

In the 79 Extra Comfort seats, travelers can enjoy early boarding, extra leg room, and AC power outlets.

In-flight dining

The airline's in-flight meal program is run by husband-and-wife duo Michelle Karr-Ueoka and Wade Ueoka of Honolulu's M-W Restaurant . The chef couple works with other Hawaiian-based restaurants and chefs to develop menus on a rotating basis; when I flew, Jason Yamaguchi's menu included a delicious curried braised brisket, papaya salad, and warm taro roll. Soon to join the Featured Chef club: Keaka Lee from Kapa Hale .

When seating in the Leihōkū Suites, I was offered a welcome drink of guava juice, a mai-tai from Kō Hana (an agricole rum distillery in the Honolulu area), or sparkling wine; meal service came with even more alcoholic and non-alcoholic options. In Extra Comfort, the meal was a chicken sausage, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich; while less noteworthy than the full dinner on my return flight, it was still a solid meal—and free, a rare treat on domestic airlines these days.

Travelers heading to or from Honolulu via San Francisco can travel on the plane's daily service through May 14; a second 787-9 will begin dedicated service between Honolulu-Los Angeles on May 14 and Honolulu-Phoenix on May 15.

Back in 2018, the airline announced plans to purchase 10 Boeing 787-9 aircrafts; while the first was expected to go into service in 2021, pandemic and aircraft delays extended the timeframe. Over time, the airline plans to use some of the 300-seat 787s for long-haul routes from Hawaii to New York, Sydney, and Japan.

The takeaway

Hawaiian Airlines passengers are predominantly leisure travelers, so it's fitting that the team designed this plane, and the onboard experience, to feel like the start of your vacation rather than just the means to get there. Warm staff greetings, Hawaiian music playing in some of the bathrooms, the starry night sky, and the plane's general ambiance help achieve that goal, while the Leihōkū Suites offer an especially luxurious way to kick off or close out your trip.

3 reasons to book business class -- and how to do it.

It's no secret that business class is more expensive than economy. The normal price for business-class airfare to Europe is $4,500 and up, according to travel deal site Going. There are ways to get a much better deal, but still, most people aren't flying business class often because of the cost involved.

While you may not book business class tickets every time you fly, there are a few situations where it can be well worth it. Here are the best reasons to consider flying business class, and how you can get your ticket for far less than the normal price.

Featured offer: save money while you pay off debt with one of these top-rated balance transfer credit cards

1. You're going on your honeymoon

Business class is perfect for special occasions, and there are few better examples than going on your honeymoon.

You'll start off your trip in an airport lounge, not a noisy boarding area. You'll have a much more comfortable seat, and you and your new spouse can toast your honeymoon with in-flight champagne. If, like many newlyweds, you want a luxurious experience on your honeymoon, flying business class is a good decision.

2. It's a long trip and you want to arrive well rested

There's a reason some companies pay for employees to travel in business class on long flights. They need employees to arrive ready to work, and they won't be if they just spent 10 hours getting sporadic bits of sleep in a cramped economy seat.

If you're hoping to rest on your flight, that's much more likely in business class. Some people can sleep fine in economy, and it's certainly possible to make an economy seat more comfortable. But for most travelers, a seat in business class makes a huge difference. It's the only way I've been able to get decent sleep on a plane.

3. You don't travel often and you want to make it special

The biggest downside of flying business class is that it's hard to go back to economy. You get used to the comfort and the higher level of service.

This can be tough if you're a frequent flyer. There's a good chance you'll want to book business class every time you travel, and that gets expensive. If you only travel once in a blue moon, it's not as much of an issue. You can splurge on occasion, and when you don't travel often, why not make the most of it?

How to book business class without paying a fortune

Even when you have a great reason to book business class, you still need to be able to afford it. Most travelers don't want to spend thousands of dollars on every flight. Don't worry -- there are a few ways to fly this way without spending nearly that much.

Get a travel rewards card

Cash isn't the only way to pay for airfare. You can also book with miles, and this makes business class much more accessible. It's often possible to book roundtrip business-class tickets for 60,000 to 120,000 miles.

The fastest way to earn miles is with travel credit cards. If you normally travel with the same airline, then you could open one of its airline credit cards. But if you want the flexibility to book with a larger number of airlines, look for a card with transferable travel rewards. You can transfer your rewards to several airline partners if you have a card in any of these rewards programs:

Chase Ultimate Rewards

American Express Membership Rewards

Capital One Venture Rewards

Citi ThankYou Rewards

Sign up for a flight deals service

There are plenty of business-class deals available. One of the easiest ways to learn about them is through a flight deals subscription. Two of the most popular are Going and Dollar Flight Club.

These services find cheap flights for you departing from your home airport. They each have free plans, although you need to sign up for a premium plan for access to their best deals, including business-class tickets. Even after paying a membership fee, you could save quite a bit with one of these services if you travel often.

Be flexible with your travel plans

If you want to pay less for airfare, it always helps to be flexible with your travel dates. That's especially true with business-class airfare, since there are fewer seats available and they're in higher demand.

Try to at least be open about the day and time that you fly. Flights may cost half as much if you don't mind moving your travel date by one or two days or flying at a different time. Most flight booking sites and airlines have calendar tools that allow you to compare prices on different dates.

Travelers usually don't need to book business class, but doing so can be a fun upgrade. Now that you know a few ways to book it at a lower cost, you can start planning, get a credit card that earns travel rewards, and figure out when you want to give business class a try.

So far so Great. I dealt with another business class travel site last year but now with our personal concierge Jaycob - our next trip to Europe will be amazing. I too was sceptical but chased up some FB contacts- positive feedback ++. Pricing- excellent - much better value than my previous experience with the other place. 1st Class airline - Etihad- not BA or Thai from the other place. I recommend ++++ and in Oz our currency is so NOT competitive was able to pay in AUD. Very very happy. Our exchange rate makes travel Soooo expensive for us down here.

Discovered Business Class Club for a recent trip to Europe. Jaycob has plenty of patience and was motivated to find me the best fare to accommodate my travel plans and budget.

Was sleptical because the quote and level of service seemed too good to be true! Business Class Club is a rare, one of a kind service that makes flying in class, all the more accessible! I highly recommend Business Class Club for any and all travel bookings - fast, friendly, efficient and goes above and beyond to provide the highest quality service!!

Thank you to Jaycob and his team at Business Class Club for a fantastic Etihad return flight Melbourne to Edinburgh via Abu Dhabi last week. Traveling up the front of the plane is fantastic, especially on a 24 hr trip to Scotland. Etihad Business through Jaycob provided driver pick up both ends door to door, simply amazing service for a fraction of the normal retail price. Jaycob was really helpful also with good seat allocation where available and answered my emails in mins! Great job well done mate - will certainly be back for the next trip

The rising dark side of business travel ceos need to pay attention to.

It's time for companies to rethink their approach to business travel.

The business landscape has rapidly changed since the pandemic, with remote work and hybrid models becoming more prominent. Despite these workforce shifts, one aspect remains constant: business travel.

Business travel is back in full force following an expected dip during the pandemic. Corporate travel budgets are returning to pre-pandemic levels, and more companies are planning budget expansions. A Morgan Stanley survey revealed that over two-thirds of companies with under $1 billion in annual revenue anticipated increased travel budgets in the coming year.

The Impact of Frequently Flying

Frequent travel can significantly impact an individual's physical, emotional, and mental well-being . While companies prioritize conventional risk management areas, they often overlook the personal well-being of their travelers. From maintaining a healthy diet to proper sleep and various emotional components such as loneliness and separation, business travelers encounter numerous potential long-term health disruptions that non-traveling employees don't face.

Business travelers had higher claims than non-travelers for all health conditions across the board, along with a higher likelihood of stress-related disorders, as reported in the Harvard Business Review . Lastly, as shared in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine , frequent business travel adversely affects overall body composition, leading to risks of obesity and various other ailments if left unmanaged, such as heart disease and diabetes.

More and more companies are prioritizing workplace wellness due to factors such as obesity's $400 billion impact on companies . Corporate travel wellness programs are a necessary part of the equation as well. As you look to implement a modern and more robust travel wellness program, start with these two areas:

WhatsApp Brand New iPhone Feature Just Launched That’s Much Easier To Use

New apple id password reset issue hitting iphone ipad and macbook users, messi blocks fc barcelona star from joining inter miami reports el nacional, embrace bleisure travel.

When attracting and retaining the best people, more and more employees choose lifestyle over salary . It's not out of laziness. It's out of a desire for work-life integration. With this in mind, organizations can embrace employees' desires through bleisure . Organizations can promote work-life integration and rejuvenation by allowing employees to combine business trips with leisure activities.

Implementing flexible travel policies that enable team members to extend their trips on the back end is a way to improve employee satisfaction, productivity, and retention rates. Research shows that 89% of business travelers wanted to add a private holiday to their business trips. Traveling for work is energetically demanding, physically and mentally. A few extra days for leisure allow team members to process their trip, recharge, and return at total capacity.

Treat Your Employees Like Athletes

Just as professional athletes require careful management of their physical, emotional, and mental well-being , so do business travelers. Business travel is a stressor with a high burnout rate and decreased performance across the board. As you revamp your corporate wellness travel program, consider your approach to business travel as a sports team thinks of traveling to play an away game.

As you prepare the company playbook for healthier and more productive business traveling, consider the following:

  • Providing support for handling jet lag
  • Offering advice on maintaining healthy sleep and nutritional habits away from home
  • Investing in business class and non-stop flights
  • Providing hotels that have conducive amenities for optimal well-being
  • Ensuring team members reside in centrally located hotels or apartment hotels

Business travel isn't going anywhere anytime soon, as the average business traveler takes roughly 6.8 trips per year, with business travel in the U.S. from domestic and international travelers also accounting for $387 billion in annual revenue, according to research shared over at Zippia . Incorporating travel wellness initiatives isn't merely an expense; it's an investment in employees' health and performance.

As organizations revamp their corporate travel programs, prioritizing their travelers' well-being is paramount. By implementing strategies to support travel wellness, companies can ensure that their employees remain healthy, engaged, and effective representatives of their companies.
