Slick German brand Cybex made their name with their award-winning car seats and have since established themselves as the go-to company for fashionable, urban strollers. Their range of pushchairs are billed as lightweight city buggies aimed at cosmopolitan parents, with the USP of the Eezy range being the lightweight design - weighing in at just 5.9kg - and the super compact fold (53.5 x 45 x 27 cm).

The Eezy S pushchair is the most basic of the Cybex Gold range with an RRP of £229.95, superseded by the Eezy S+ (£249.95) , Eezy S Twist (£269.95) , and - most recently released buggy - their Eezy S Twist+ (£329.95). A mid-range buggy, the Eezy S sits comfortably between other stylish compact pushchairs.

At the top end, market leader Babyzen led the way with the revolutionary YoYo - a 'hand-luggage' buggy which costs £375 and is suitable for babies from six months to 15kg (unless purchased with the newborn pack which adds another £150+ to the bill). The Eezy S stands up well against the Babyzen – being lighter but with a slightly less compact fold and without the Yoyo’s shoulder strap.

The Eezy S is probably most akin to the stylish Silver Cross Jet , which is just slightly more expensive at £275 , but weighs the same and has a slighter lower seat recline. However, the Eezy S boasts a much easier fold than both the Silver Cross and the Babyzen, and that’s where it really comes up trumps.

Steve Deeks tested the Cybex Eezy S with his 9-month-old son Harrison in the New Forest and on trips to the shops and local town.

First impressions?

I was relieved the Eezy S was already fitted with seat, wheels, storage basket and canopy. It is literally a 'pop up' buggy and was ready to go straight away, so no need for fiddly assembly. I liked the sleek, stylish design and the fabric felt durable and good quality.

How is the Cybex Eezy S different from the Cybex Eezy S Twist?

The main difference between the buggies is the Twist’s clever swivel function, which enables your child to sit in a forward or parent-facing position, whilst the Eezy S is only forward-facing. The Plus models in the Eezy range are upgraded again with larger wheels and XL sun canopies, making them more suited to uneven terrain. The other significant difference is that both the Twist and the Plus buggies are able to recline to a lie flat position, making them suitable for newborns - worth bearing in mind considering the relatively small difference in cost.

What age is the Cybex Eezy S suitable for?

The Eezy S is suitable from 6 months to 17kg. However, it can be used from birth when in conjunction with a Cybex or GB infant car seat, which are sold separately and can be quite expensive (as are the car seat adaptors). It’s worth noting that the Cybex website says it can be made into a 3-in-1 travel system when used with the 'Cot S' newborn carrycot.

How easy is the buggy to fold and unfold?

Extremely! My favourite function of the Eezy S was the one-handed fold and unfold mechanism. I was pleasantly surprised that after just two attempts I had mastered the two-button push, lift, unfold and flick-to-click technique, as demonstrated on the Cybex website. It was just as eezy (excuse the pun) to fold down pressing the same buttons on the handlebar and pushing to collapse.

Does the Eezy S fit in the boot of your car?

The compact design when folded means the Eezy S fits neatly and easily into the boot of my average-sized car - alongside my changing bag and with plenty of room left for the weekly shop. It can also fit snugly into the front passenger footwell to free up the boot space and its super lightweight frame means I can lift it in and out of the car easily.

How easy is it to carry?

Although lightweight I found the Eezy S quite uncomfortable to carry, as the handle is made of plastic and dug into my hand after a relatively short amount of time. A strap or padding to the handle would have been more practical.

How effective are the wheels on the Eezy S?

With its 4-wheel suspension, the Cybex Eezy S stands out proudly against most compact buggies I have tried. It manoeuvres extremely well on most uneven surfaces and coped well when I tested it on grass and gravel.

However, as the wheels are quite small, it didn't cope as well on rough terrain and we felt the bumps quite a bit (perhaps the Eezy S+, with its bigger wheels, would perform slightly better). On a trip to town this buggy really came into its own, nipping round corners, over cobbled streets and down the narrow supermarket aisles.

Is the Eezy S frame strong?

Yes. The frame feels more sturdy than it looks and felt durable when on rough ground and mounting kerbs. It didn’t feel flimsy at all, which is a bonus for such a lightweight buggy.

What do you think of the handlebar?

The handlebar on the Eezy S is okay. The foam covering isn’t the most comfortable and I felt chaffing compared to leather-effect handlebars I have used.

I was disappointed that it isn't adjustable, as I would have liked to lower it because it seems quite high.

How spacious is the seat unit on the Eezy S?

Although narrow at 45cm (which adds to the buggy’s dexterity), it felt spacious enough for my 9-month-old. However, it might start to feel snug as your baby grows.

I was really disappointed with the position of the Eezy S seat - it just doesn’t seem to sit at the right angle. I felt Harrison’s bottom should have been further back and the backrest further forward, as he seemed to be slumped in the chair and kept trying to pull himself forward to a more upright position. A bumper bar would be useful here (it isn’t included in the box but can be purchased separately).

Also, the straps felt quite loose even when tightened - and my son is not a small lad - which meant he kept slipping to one side of the seat.

How many recline positions are there?

The Eezy S has a 'step-less recline' mechanism that works on a cord and toggle system behind the seat, so there are no 'fixed' positions. Although the seat doesn’t recline fully, I felt it could have reclined more - especially when we went on a long country walk and Harrison didn’t seem comfortable enough to sleep.

The toggle system was extremely tricky to work whilst my baby was in the buggy, as I had to push him forward in the chair to release the toggle and adjust the position. I prefer a hinged recline which is smoother and requires much less struggling.

How easy is it to interact with your baby in the Eezy S?

The fact that the seat can only face forwards and there’s no window in the canopy means you can’t see your baby at all whilst pushing the Eezy S. Interaction is difficult, which is a shame.

Does the hood give good coverage?

The hood on the Eezy S offers UPF50+ protection and clicks satisfyingly into position. Although not as large as the hood on the Eezy Plus versions, it was big enough for my liking.

The Cybex parasol can be purchased separately to offer additional protection from the sun, whilst the rain cover (included) provides full cover in wet weather.

Do the brakes feel strong and effective?

The brake on the Eezy S is located between the back wheels and is quick and easy to operate with one foot. It was a little stiff at first and I kept wanting to push it forward to engage. However, you push it back to a vertical position, which locks the back wheels. After a few goes it becomes second nature.

How easy is it to access the basket on the Eezy S?

For me, bigger is definitely better when it comes to storage. Considering the compact nature of the Eezy S, the basket is actually quite generous. Although my (admittedly) large changing bag wouldn’t fit, I was able to put a standard supermarket shopping bag, packed lunch and water bottle into it. It is also fairly easy to access items, especially from the back, as the basket cleverly curves outwards.

A word of warning, though. If, like me, you take your changing bag everywhere and decide to hang it from the handlebar, the buggy is so lightweight it can topple backwards when your baby isn’t sitting in the seat.

Is the Eezy S car seat compatible to make a travel system?

Yes. The Eezy S is compatible with Cybex and GB car seats from the Silver, Gold and Platinum ranges. The car seat clips to the chassis in a parent-facing position using adaptors - which you will need to buy separately.

Yes, you can buy a bumper bar (£29.95), footmuff (£70), gloves (£45), cup holder (£20), travel bag (£45), organiser bag (£45), parasol (£30) and car seat adaptors (£30).

Which colourways does the Eezy S come in?

The buggy comes in a choice of five standard colours - including Tropical Blue and Fancy Pink, as well as the more understated Manhattan Grey, Lavastone Black and Denim Blue. With a further nine premium designs and colours available at a slightly higher cost, there's a colour combination to suit most tastes, including the Cybex for Scuderia Ferrari colours and the funky, eye-catching Values For Life range.

Is it easy to assemble the Eezy S?

The instructions come in picture form and are fairly clear, but the Eezy S is so easy to assemble that I only needed to use them to check how to operate the recline function.

What would you have wanted to know before buying the Eezy S?

It would have been good to know the limitations regarding the recline function. There is a tutorial video online which shows it in action, but it isn’t clear that the seat doesn’t recline very far or sit completely upright. I would also want to know the cost of the additional extras, as some accessories would make the Eezy S much more user friendly -such as the bumper bar and footmuff – but are expensive.

Who would the Eezy S be most useful for?

The Eezy S would be useful for those looking for a nimble, compact and affordable buggy for using around town and on public transport that’s also sturdy enough for moderately uneven surfaces, such as walks in the park.

The Cybex Eezy S is a great compact and lightweight buggy that does everything it promises at an affordable price - offering just as much, if not more, as its more expensive competitors. The 4-wheel suspension is great, the one-handed fold is a breeze and its compact size means it fits well into most tight spaces.

The downsides are its recline function and handlebar, whilst the accessories are expensive so the cost could mount up if you are looking to use it from birth. However, I would recommend this buggy.

Cybex Eezy S Twist 2: Revolving Stroller Review

Cybex Eezy S Twist stroller is extremely unique among other compact and lightweight strollers, as it offers a rotating seat. That means that a child can be facing a parent, but also you can easily turn them around. It’s a revolving stroller.

While most full-size strollers offer a rotating seat, travel strollers don’t due to the complex mechanism of folding. In fact, another brand tried copying the original Cybex Eezy S Twist by releasing Bugaboo Ant and they failed miserably as the seat was getting stuck and the stroller got discontinued and replaced by a non-rotating Bugaboo Butterfly .

Do I recommend Cybex Eezy S Twist stroller? It was the first travel stroller I ever got and it served us well on our first adventures when our baby was only a month old, so it makes me feel nostalgic, but I admit that we ended up replacing our Cybex after a few months of travels.

The brand updated this stroller ever since we started using it and honestly, I think that if you’re looking for a mid-range priced travel stroller that you don’t mind gate checking when flying then it could be a great option.

Pros & Minor Cons of Cybex Eezy S Twist Stroller

Maneuverability & Design

Cybex Eezy S Twist+2 can easily be pushed with one hand even on mud or grass. As the wheel suspensions work great and Cybex improved the wheels, it’s honestly a great option for moderate trails as well.

The main reason why we got this particular model was the option of it reclining fully ( crucial for a newborn !) without expensive extra accessories, as we were unsure how often we’d be traveling. The brand sells a cocoon for newborns which I ended up getting, but on sunny days I was able to just use straps and it worked just fine.

Folding and Unfolding of Cybex Eezy S Twist 2

The stroller folds and unfolds easily with one hand which was also crucial for me when traveling solo. It served me well on solo train rides with an infant.

Cybex Eezy S Twist does NOT fit in the overhead cabin unless you remove the wheels and it’s still not guaranteed. On various flights, it only fit on one plane.

Storage Spaces

As you can see below the under-seat basket is fit enough for my 16lbs giant cat to sleep comfortably 😉

The seat offers a small zippable pouch for keys, phone, wipes, and other small items – a feature I love in travel strollers.

I saw some people claiming that the basket is small, but it’s really not. It’s not a giant basket like on Uppababy but it’s also a much smaller stroller and for travel strollers, the basket is actually pretty big.

Seat Compartment, Recline & Canopy

The seat, as on any other Cybex strollers, is generously padded and comfortable and the harness is easily retractable. Due to its swivel function the seat is narrow and shallow – otherwise, it wouldn’t twist!

The biggest advantage of Eezy S Twist though is the canopy. It has a huge expandable sun canopy with a zippered section and UPF 50+ rating to shield your child from the sun.

While the canopy is naturally not waterproof we got caught in the rain once and the baby wasn’t drenched. That said, it’s water-resistant for sure and since the stroller comes with a raincover included it’s fine either way.

Another unique feature of this stroller is that the seat can be flat on it’s one without profiling, semi-reclining, or any other extra gadgets. It just gets flat by reclining – and this is what sold me on it for my newborn. Recline adjustments can also be done with just one hand.

Once your baby is sitting you can set the seat upright, not like on other strollers when it constantly stays slightly reclined.

Cybex Eezy s Accessories

The stroller is being sold with a belly bar, rain cover, car seat adapters and cup holder which is generous considering the price.

You can purchase an extra bassinet, but there isn’t much else that you need to have to make this stroller functional.

Cybex Eezy S Twist Stroller Review Verdict

As I mentioned at the beginning we ended up replacing our Eezy S Twist with Babyzen Yoyo after a few months. It was my husband who suggested it after watching other parents at the airport effortlessly dealing with their strollers.

Even after brand improvements it still feels less sturdy not as sturdy as some competitors, but sturdy enough to serve even as a full-time stroller. Due to its swivel, folding, and small size a lot of parts wiggle. While ours never broke, I can see it potentially breaking at some point.

We ended up not liking the shallow seat and despite thinking how cool it would be to have an option of parent-facing, we couldn’t care less for it when the child turned 12 months or even earlier. Ultimately, we needed a stroller that was smaller to fit in an overhead compartment of the airplane and this was simply not it so personally if I was to do it again I would have just got the Yoyo with carrycot as I ended up traveling a lot.

If you think you’re only traveling occasionally then it could be a decent option from the newborn to toddler years.

• Folds easy. Great storage under the stroller. Love the push bar, other small strollers I had to practically bend over to push and it hurt my back. I am 5 foot 7 and this push bar was the absolute perfect height If it were even an inch lower it would have been too low. Really good quality you would expect from cybex
