Walt Disney World 50th Anniversary VIP Tour Overview

Walt Disney World  only turns 50 once and during the 18-month long World’s Most Magical Celebration , one of the ways Guests can enhance their celebration is with a new VIP Tour experience, fitting called the 50th Anniversary Tour . Hosted by a Disney VIP Tour Guide, the 8-hour tour is designed to maximize your appreciation of the history of the resort with a planned itinerary that includes resorts, theme parks, and Disney’s iconic modes of transportation. “Get ready to travel by land, sky and the seven seas on an adventure of a lifetime,” read the branding on the tour and with that, we set out for a magical day of experiences.

Your VIP Tour Guide will meet you at the Disney Resort you’re staying at, but since we weren’t staying on-property we met our guide Kelly at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. Each member of our party was given a special 50th Anniversary version of the Disney VIP Tours pin. This tour accommodates a maximum of 6 Guests.

Our first mode of transportation was by land in a deluxe motor coach with digital controls that could raise and lower the shades, turn on multicolored lighting enhancements, and even stream Disney+  during the ride on two TVs facing each other.

Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground served as lodging for construction workers while Magic Kingdom  park was being built. Since Walt Disney’s first paying job as an artist was drawing his dentist’s horse for a nickel, we toured the brand-new Tri-Circle D horse barn and got to meet some of the steeds that pull the trolly and carriages down Main Street U.S.A. We also got to see the calliope that Walt Disney purchased, which was used in the film Toby Tyler  and parades at Disneyland  and Walt Disney World. It was recently redesigned in honor of the 50th Anniversary and as a special magic moment, we got to press the button to activate the calliope playing “When You Wish Upon a Star.”

Our next stop was Disney’s Contemporary Resort where, after learning about the unique way the main concourse was assembled, we took a private elevator up to the recently redesigned California Grill , with modifications designed to celebrate the history of the space. We toasted to 50 years with mimosas, took in the sweeping views of the 43-square miles of Walt Disney World property, and learned about how Walt Disney and his associates bought the land in secrecy to try and get a value on the land.

We had already traveled by land, so now it was time to take to the Seven Seas (Lagoon) via a privately chartered boat over the water bridge that connects the man-made lake to Bay Lake. Our guide shared some of the history of the Vacation Kingdom, even sailing us by the old wave machine that was used to offer surfing lessons at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort in the 70s. As we approached Magic Kingdom, we were treated to audio from Roy O. Disney’s dedication speech for the grand opening of the park.

Our first stop inside the park was Town Square Theater where Mickey Mouse recently resumed meet and greets with Guests, now wearing his EARidescent finest. We bypassed the queue to meet Walt Disney’s most famous character.

Kelly pointed out some of the windows on Main Street U.S.A. that honor the people who helped secure the land for Walt Disney World, including this one with a nod to one of the aliases used to buy the land, “M. T. Lott.”

Everyone who visits Magic Kingdom gets to see Cinderella Castle, but very few people get to enter the living quarters. One of the big draws of this tour is the chance to go inside the Cinderella Castle Suite.

Furnished in 2007 as part of The Year of a Million Dreams, the suite is undergoing a few upgrades and so photos inside weren’t allowed, with the exception of a peek out the window at Fantasyland.

It was then time for lunch, which is included in the cost of the tour. Our order was taken before we sailed to Magic Kingdom so when we arrived at Be Our Guest Restaurant, our orders came out quickly. There was no limit to what we could order, including signature drinks in souvenir light-up goblets. For dessert, an assortment of cupcakes were delivered with a white chocolate rose full of “The Grey Stuff” (it’s delicious!).

The first ride of the day Pirates of the Caribbean , which came with the history of the attraction and how Guests were so upset that it wasn’t part of Magic Kingdom when the park opened that plans for the Western River Expedition were scrapped to make way for it. Next, we walked to Liberty Square for a ride aboard a Doom Buggy in The Haunted Mansion . But the “Real” chills came later.

By far, the best part of the tour was when we stepped off our Doom Buggies and were brought backstage to the side of the attraction. No photos were allowed so I have nothing to prove that I got to do this, but we were taken underneath the ride track to see the figures that appear in the ballroom sequence through a Pepper’s Ghost effect. A railing kept us far enough away from the figures to catch the light and be seen by Guests onboard the ride. It was not only cool to see them all up-close and in-person, but also to learn that Abraham Lincoln is seated at the dining table (a blue variation of the figure from The Hall of Presidents ), as is Carlos, the mayor being dunked in the well from Pirates , who is blowing out birthday candles rather than spitting out water. I get goosebumps just thinking about the fact that I got to go down there.

Another place we got to go down into was the Utilidors, also known as the “Tunnels.” We descended beneath Mickey’s Philharmagic  underneath Fantasyland and took a walk down the center divide back to Main Street U.S.A., coming up behind the Emporium and getting a look at the “Backside” of Jungle Cruise . No photos are allowed in backstage areas, so you’ll have to take my word for it.

We traveled to EPCOT  via Monorail, receiving our own private car on both the Magic Kingdom Express and EPCOT line. On the way into EPCOT, we were told that the Monorail slowed down just for us so we could get a longer view of all the work being done to transform Future World into World Celebration, World Discovery, and World Nature.

On the theme of traveling by sky, after getting off Disney’s “Highway in the sky,” we were brought to the new restaurant Space 220  for a snack. After ascending the elevator for an omnipotent view of Earth, we were treated to two of the restaurants signature menu items (Blue Moon Cauliflower and Centauri Burger sliders), two dessert samples (Chocolate Cheesecake and Carrot Cake), and our choice of signature mocktail (The Milky Way, Moon Rocks, or Lightyear Lemonade), each of which came with a pack of souvenir trading cards.

Following our return back to EPCOT, we went backstage to find the van waiting for us to drive us to Pixar’s version of Paris for a trip aboard the newest attraction, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure , which opened with the start of “The Happiest Celebration on Earth.

After transitioning from mouse-height back to human-height, our last trip in the sky was aboard Disney’s Skyway to Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, where the van was waiting to return us to Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground.

As a special parting gift, we were gifted our very own Main Street Window, exclusive to this tour (one per party). It’s branded with the 50th Anniversary Tour, reminds us of our trip “Across Lands, Skies & Seven Seas,” and thanks us for taking the tour.

NEW 50th Anniversary VIP Tour Coming Soon to Disney World!

The private tour can accommodate up to 6 people (at least 12 years of age or older) in one party and comes with a knowledgeable and passionate Disney VIP tour guide to ferry the group via land, sky, and water through the Magic Kingdom, EPCOT , and the original Disney World accommodations- Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground which opened the same year as the Magic Kingdom park- yup, 50 years ago in 1971.

Unlike a normal VIP Tour which costs $315 per hour- with a minimum of six hours booked- the 50 th Anniversary tour takes guests on a predetermined route, rather than giving the party access to ride almost anything that strikes their fancy.

The day of “unparalleled magical experiences” begins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground where VIP guests will be transported back in time and learn about the park and its accommodation’s humble beginnings before discovering and exploring the all-new Tri-Circle D Ranch.

Then, taking to the waterways, guests will be able to take in the views of the Disney Resorts Collection on their private charter boat to the ‘newly spruced for the anniversary’, Magic Kingdom park.

Becoming privy to behind-the-scenes secrets along with learning about Walt’s very own passion and inspirations, guests will experience select attractions like never before. They will continue to feel like time travelers as 50 years of magic is revealed, exploring how we got to the parks and resort offerings we experience today.

Next, guests take to the sky heading towards EPCOT by monorail, getting an exclusive insight into the stunning transformation of the park and into the minds of Imagineers. Perhaps a hint of the future will also be revealed with a sneak peek of some exciting things to come before the party will “squeak” on over to EPCOT’s brand new Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure.

So, what will this epic day set a VIP guest part back? The 50 th anniversary VIP tour starts at $6500! No, the decimal is not missing.

This is on top of the valid theme park admission that is required for each guest in the VIP tour party but not included in the cost. Park pass reservations will be secured at the time of booking.

Here are more essentials you need to know about the 50th Anniversary Tour.

Cancellations are free up until 72 hours before the scheduled tour. After that, a 20% fee will be incurred.

Full security screenings (including bag checks) should be expected during the Disney VIP Tour and guests should be prepared with their appropriate government-issued identification.

The taking of photographs is encouraged in non-backstage areas however no cameras, video equipment, or cellphones may be used while backstage and during other, certain portions of the special experience tour.

Most dietary restrictions can be easily accommodated but should be discussed at the time of booking. Guests will also be required to inform the server, chef, or manager of their special dietary requests upon arriving at the restaurant.

Teens are fully able to participate in ten tours but must be accompanied by at least one paying and participating parent or guardian.

The tours are provided in English, any other language requests should be made at the time of booking.

For those of us who can’t quite pay the hefty price tag of a VIP tour, there’s still plenty to discover now the “World’s Most Magical Celebration” has kicked off (as of October 1). Celebrations will continue across all four Disney World theme parks for 18 months with new entertainment offerings and “EARidescent” decorations. Cinderella Castle’s, Mickey Mouse, and even the cast members throughout the Disney resort have received an EARidescent makeover.

Of course, no one celebrates the big 5-0 without a party that lasts into the night, and what better way to wrap up the festivities each evening with a magnificent firework spectacular?

I'll be in WDW in June, and I scheduled this tour (we've done VIP tour in the past). I know it's not like a regular VIP tour in that it's a set schedule, and that it isn't focused on attractions so much as the history and locations. My main questions are: 1) Has anyone done it, and how did you like it? 2) It's supposed to be between 7 to 8 hours long. The description of the tour doesn't really sound like 7 to 8 hours, but I assume that it goes slow. I got a very brief list of things from the phone CM that are going to happen (which was similar to what was on the website), but that didn't make it sound like 7 to 8 hours worth. I don't necessarily want spoilers, but I do want to make sure it really has the content for that long. I am taking into account the lunch at BOG and snack at Space 220. 3) Is it possible to make any requests at all during the tour, or are we really locked in? My only real change I'd like is to go on the Guardians ride instead of Ratatouille, but I know that is a long shot. I'm perfectly fine not being able to do it, I just wanted to know if they would be flexible. I did see one two part youtube video of the tour, I'd like additional opinions if available.

I did this tour a few weeks ago and absolutely LOVED it. It's very $ but as a huge Disney fan and lover of the history and behind the scenes stuff it was well worth it to me as a splurge. There isn't a lot of info about the tour "out there" so I'm happy to answer any questions. Some tour restrictions: ages 12+ and if you/your party use mobility devices (scooters, wheelchairs etc.) need to talk to VIP tours as it may impact some activities. To OP - we rode Guardians vs. Ratatouille. This was early August. Highlights for me were the private boat ride in Bay Lake learning about the history, behind the scenes of the Haunted Mansion ballroom scene (AMAZING), Cinderella castle suite tour, time in the utilidors (not unlike what you see in Keys to the Kingdom tour). Again, happy to answer any questions if anyone is considering this.

I hope this is allowed. This ~1 min Tik Tok video gives you a bit of any idea of the 50th Anniversary tour. Not sure if true but saw somewhere earlier today that this tour is being discontinued as of 9/29.

Can one book this for just one or two people (i.e., a group tour with others up to six total) or does one have to book a private guide at the full hourly rate?

Hi, I am the OP, I did the 50th anniversary VIP tour in June, and I see there is some interest, so here is my review. 1) The guide was excellent, and it was a great time overall. 2) There was a lot of time spent on the history of Walt and the parks, which was great. 3) The highlights were: a) Haunted Mansion Behind the scenes. Couldn't take pictures, but it was eye opening to be sure. b) Cinderella Suite, especially because of the special guide we had (our VIP tour guide said it was not always that she was available), an older woman who was so kind and knew so much about the suite and the parks in general. We were able to take as many pics as we wished. c) The boat ride was very informative, and interesting in that we docked at Magic Kingdom in that small boat, which was usually not allowed outside of the tour. 4) We went like 2-3 weeks after the Guardians ride opened, and the guide asked us near the beginning which we would rather ride (Guardians or Remy). We chose guardians of course. That was pretty much the only real choice we had, everything else was predetermined. 5) It was my first time in the utilidoors, and although it was interesting, I wouldn't call it a highlight. 6) I think the only lowlight was the food. We had some drinks at Steakhouse 71 lounge area, lunch at Be our Guest, and some appetizer like meal at Space 220. Nothing bad, just nothing amazing. We had dinner after the tour at Steakhouse 71, which was amazing. 7) We did get a special souvenir at the end, which was awesome. The cost, after taxes, is about $7000. You have to factor in a tip in addition as well to that. Our tour was around 8 hours.

• Entertainment offerings are subject to availability and may be restricted by capacity constraints at the time of booking.
