Elton John preformed to over 6 million fans across 330 shows in his farewell tour.

With glitz, glam and golden confetti, Elton John performed on tour for the last time on Saturday.

The final concert was set in Stockholm, Sweden. It wrapped up the British singer's "Farewell Yellow Brick Road" tour, which spanned over five years, 330 shows and 16 Gucci suits. The tour is considered the highest-grossing in Billboard Boxscore history. Last month, it became the first tour ever to make more than $900 million.

"What a journey this tour has been and now we find ourselves at the end of it," John wrote on Instagram before the show.

The show included several of John's signature songs, including Tiny Dancer, Rocket Man and Candle in the Wind.

In heart-shaped pink sunglasses, he thanked his fans for their support throughout the decades.

"You have no idea what it means to me, your kindness. I've had the most wonderful career," he said. "How lucky am I to play music. But I wouldn't be sitting here and talking to you if it wasn't for you."

The worldwide, farewell tour kicked off in 2018, but was forced to pause in 2020 for nearly two-years due to the pandemic. Last month, the 76-year-old gave his final U.K. performance while headlining the Glastonbury Festival.

In 2021, the international pop star told NPR that he looked forward to retiring from tour so that he could spend more time with his children.

He later said, "As much as I love playing, I want to be with my boys now. I want to be there for them."

Elton John has today announced his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, a global itinerary which will span 300 shows and three years and will be his last.

In the #EltonEvent broadcast live from New York on eltonjohn.com, he gave solo renditions of ‘Tiny Dancer’ and ‘I’m Still Standing’ before breaking the news to host Anderson Cooper and the assembled audience. The tour is scheduled to begin in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Elton John - Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour: The Launch (VR180)

The superstar singer-songwriter said that he made the decision in the south of France in 2015, in order to be able to spend more time with his husband, David Furnish, and their children. “My priorities have changed in my life,” he commented. “Ten years ago, if you’d have said I was going to stop touring, I’d have said ‘No, no, I’m a working musician, I’ve always played.

“But we had children, and that changed our lives,” he continued. “In 2015, David and I sat down with a school schedule and thought ‘I don’t want to miss too much of this. I’ve had an amazing life, I’ve had an amazing career, I’ve been so incredibly lucky, and the priorities in my life have changed.

“I’ve been touring since I was 17, in various bands and as Elton John [from] 1969, and I thought the time was right to say thank you to all my fans around the world, and to say goodbye, and have a breather. It doesn’t mean to say I’m still not going to be creative, but I’m not going to travel anymore.”

The announcement was heralded in a teaser video posted earlier in the day which opened with the caption “I’ve finally decided where my future lies,” a reference to Bernie Taupin’s lyric on ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.’ The clip went on to summarise the superstar’s momentous history as a live performer, starting with his famous US debut at the Troubadour in West Hollywood on 25 August 1970.

“Now Elton is embarking on the next phase of his creative journey,” it continued, “and it will be every bit as surprising and powerful as his first performances almost 50 years ago.” It followed a “virtual” appearance at the piano by Elton on London’s Kings Cross station concourse yesterday (23).

John is due to perform alongside Miley Cyrus at the Grammy Awards in New York on Sunday (28), where he will be presented with the President’s Merit Award. His current residency in Las Vegas in May, after six years and 200 shows.

“I’ve been enjoying my time at home with the family while the world navigates its way through the COVID pandemic,” John wrote on social media. “But, I really miss being on the road and performing for my beloved fans in my Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour. While the scientists are making great progress, we are making big plans for a return to touring that will allow us to ensure the health and safety of everyone. I will be starting my tour again in Europe and the UK in the Fall of 2021. And I will be back in North America starting in January 2022.  This means my New Zealand dates will be postponed until 2023. Don’t worry about me.  I’m using my downtime to keep myself fighting fit and healthier than ever. I’m raring to go! As always, thank you so much for your loyal support. I look forward to seeing all you wonderful Elton John fans soon. In the meantime, please stay safe and be well. Thank you!”

All original tickets will be honored at the rescheduled performances. See the new dates below.

Elton John is giving the yellow brick road a real send-off.

On Wednesday, the "Tiny Dancer" musician, 76, announced on Instagram that he would be releasing a book chronicling the journey of his five-year farewell tour titled Farewell Yellow Brick Road: Memories of My Life via Hyperion Avenue, an imprint of Disney Publishing Worldwide.

"I am incredibly excited to announce my new book, “Farewell Yellow Brick Road: Memories of My Life On Tour”, which goes behind the scenes on my final tour, from Allentown, PA, to Stockholm, Sweden and everywhere in between," he wrote.

John added: "It’s been a beautiful journey creating this book and remembering the people and places that shaped an incredible chapter in my life. As well as the stories and memories, not just from this tour but from throughout my career, I’ve included unreleased photography and memorabilia that I hope give you never-before-seen insights of my life on the road."

The five-time Grammy winner revealed the book will be released on Sept. 24. "Rocket Club members and those buying through my official store will receive their copy two weeks early, so head to store.eltonjohn.com to pre-order your copy now," John concluded.

According to the official book description on the legendary musician's website , his tome will give readers an inside look at his "dazzling, final performances at Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium, his record-breaking performance at Glastonbury, his legendary touring wardrobe by Gucci, the beautifully detailed stage design, celebrity guest attendees, official tour photography, and more."

John concluded his live-touring career of over 50 years in July 2023 with a final stop on his  Farewell Yellow Brick Road  tour at the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm.

As he wrapped the show with "Your Song" and, fittingly, "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," the "Rocket Man" artist thanked fans for supporting him on tour over the last five decades.

“I’ve had the most wonderful career, beyond belief. 52 years of pure joy playing music, how lucky am I to play music? But I wouldn’t be sitting here if it wasn’t for you," John said,  per  The   Independent . "You bought the singles, albums and CDs and more importantly you bought the tickets to the shows and you know how I love to play live."

“It’s been my lifeblood to play for you guys and you’ve been absolutely magnificent – thank you," he added. "I will never forget you guys. I’ve played so many concerts, how could I forget? You’re in my head, and my heart and my soul and I thank you so much.”

Forthcoming Farewell Yellow Brick Road European and UK Tour Dates Rescheduled

Elton John has today announced that the forthcoming 2021 European and UK tour dates of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour have to be rescheduled for 2023.

Elton said:

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I am forced to reschedule the 2021 dates of my Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour in Europe and the UK to 2023.

At the end of my summer break I fell awkwardly on a hard surface and have been in considerable pain and discomfort in my hip ever since. Despite intensive physio and specialist treatment, the pain has continued to get worse and is leading to increasing difficulties moving. I have been advised to have an operation as soon as possible to get me back to full fitness and make sure there are no long-term complications. I will be undertaking a program of intensive physiotherapy that will ensure a full recovery and a return to full mobility without pain.

I am going to complete the charitable Global Citizen event on 25th September as I don’t want to let a charity down. Being just five songs it’s a very different physical undertaking to the demands of playing for close to three hours every night on tour and travelling overnight between countries. After this I will be having the operation to ensure the tour can get back on the road in January of 2022 in New Orleans.

I know how patient my incredible fans have been since Covid halted touring last year, and it breaks my heart to keep you waiting any longer. I completely feel your frustrations after the year we’ve had. I promise you this – the shows will return to the road next year and I will make sure they are more than worth the wait.

Important information

Ticketholders of the rescheduled performances will receive new event information and all original tickets will be honoured at the rescheduled performances. The Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour will recommence on 19th January 2022 in New Orleans and run until the summer of 2023.
