Go on a Cardiff Castle Tour

One of the city’s biggest draws is Cardiff Castle, a mixture of Roman, Norman and Victorian architecture strewn around the central green. It offers a fantastic insight into the history of Cardiff as for centuries it was the home of the Butes, the family who transformed Cardiff from a small town into the biggest coal port in the world.

Walk down to the Cardiff Bay

Enjoy a walk along the old Cardiff docklands, now known as Cardiff Bay, a vibrant waterfront filled with restaurants, boutiques and boats. You can go sailing on the large freshwater lake, enjoy a night of opera at the Wales Millennium Centre, and indulge in exceptional dining along Mermaid Quay.

Learn about Celtic culture

A trip to Wales offers the chance to dive into Celtic culture with our Local Specialists. They’ll show you the way of the Celts through food, music and humor, with traditional Welsh dinners and an evening of Welsh music performed by magical harpists and the finest local singers.

Hike in the Welsh mountain region of Snowdonia

Hiking in Wales is one of the best ways to get immersed in the country’s mountains, and Snowdonia National Park offers a grand introduction. Sprawling across northern Wales to the rugged coastline, you can find the highest peak in Wales, along with an excellent network of trails to guide your exploration.

Stroll through the Cardiff Central Market

Discover a range of local Welsh cuisine, vintage clothing and seasonal produce at Cardiff Central Market, a historic Victorian building that has been the site of a farmer’s market since the 18th century. You never know what treasures you’ll find as you wander the stores under the market’s glass roof.

Our top 5 things to do in Wales

When you’re not trekking through the mountains and exploring the most beautiful places in Wales, retreat to the city where you’ll find historic castles, old-fashioned markets and a compelling culture. Here are just a few of the ways we'll unlock the magic of Wales for you on your trip.

National Museum

Set in Cardiff’s civic center, the National Museum is home to a variety of national collections and touring exhibitions of geology and natural history. It also houses one of Europe’s best art collections, with paintings, drawings, sculptures and ceramics from Wales and the world, and one of the finest collections of Impressionist art.

St Fagans National Museum of History

Located on the grounds of St Fagans Castle in Cardiff, St Fagans National Museum of History is one of the world’s best open-air museums. Along with St Fagans Castle, a 16th-century manor house, you’ll find a collection of more than 50 original buildings from different historical periods that have been rebuilt on the 100-acre parkland.

Swansea Museum

Built in 1841, Swansea Museum is the oldest museum in Wales. It’s home to a fantastic collection of historical objects from the pasts of Swansea and the world. You’ll find six galleries with everything from a Welsh Kitchen to the tomb of an Egyptian mummy.

Best museums in Wales

Wales is home to some of Europe’s best historical and cultural collections and our Wales tours take it all in, from an open-air museum in a 16th-century castle, to an Egyptian mummy’s tomb.

Welsh rarebit

A traditional Welsh dish hailing from the 18th century, Welsh rarebit is a delicious take on the classic toasted cheese sandwich. It’s made from creamy sauce of Welsh cheese, ale or milk, and mustard or spices, poured hot over slices of toasted bread.

Glamorgan sausage

Named after the county of Glamorgan in Wales, Glamorgan sausage is a Welsh vegetarian sausage. Traditionally made with Caerphilly cheese, leek and coated in breadcrumbs, the sausages are fried until crispy. The dish became popular in the Second World War when meat was scarce, and is now a national specialty.

Also known as ‘speckled bread’, Bara Brith is a rich fruit cake, originally made as a yeasted bread. Spread with salted butter or drizzled with warm honey, this traditional Welsh dish is a tea-time favorite.

Best food in Wales

From cheesy toast and spiced fruit cake, to vegetarian sausages and hearty meats, we'll show you how Welsh cuisine turns simple ingredients into memorable meals.

What to pack for Wales

People packing for a tour

Waterproof coat

A waterproof coat is an essential item in Wales - there are showers all year round and Cardiff is one of the wettest cities in Europe.

Hiking boots

The mountains of Wales are best explored on foot, and you’ll need a comfortable pair of hiking boots to explore the trails. Make sure you break in your boots before your trip to Wales.

From the historic buildings like Cardiff Castle to the giant mountains of Snowdonia, you’ll want to capture every exquisite moment.

An adaptor plug

Voltage in Wales is 230V and the sockets are of Type G, with standard British 3-pin plugs.

Sunglasses are great to have all year round, to protect from the sunny days in summer and the low angle of the sun in winter.

Pack for sustainable travel

Consider your environmental impact when you next take a trip and go single-use-plastic-free by packing a reusable water bottle, a steel straw, your own shopping bags and refillable toiletry bottles.

Why You'll Love a Wales Tour

escorted tours wales

Countless castles

Wales may be small, but it certainly wasn't a pushover. Over centuries the Welsh built 600 castles. And even though many of them are now in ruins, you’ll still be amazed at the diversity of these defensive buildings. And what’s more is they’re usually located in gorgeous hill top locations.

escorted tours wales

Almost too beautiful

National parks cover 20% of Wales. You have the stunning and rugged coastlines of the Pembrokeshire Coast. You have the rolling plains and hidden caves of the Brecon Beacons. And you have the altitude defying mountains of Snowdonia. So, if you’re looking for natural wonders, then look no further and visit Wales.

The land of legends

In Wales, history is tangled with myths. And there’s a legend about every hill and lake you pass by. Listen to the tale of the red dragon and how it’s become the national animal. Hear the moving story of Gelert, the dog, and his heroic deed. And discover the places connected to King Arthur.

Llanfairpwllgwy

The longest place name in Europe means 'St Mary's Church in the Hollow of the White Hazel near a Rapid Whirlpool and the Church of St. Tysilio near the Red Cave'. And if you think this is some sort of joke, then you’re right. Because this name was given as a publicity stunt in the 1860s. You’ll come across many of these odd facts as you journey through Wales.

Jeremy was excellent as a tour guide. A wealth of information. Good sense of humor. Easy going. Steve was a very good driver, though a bit too fast on a few roads. What kept the review from being excellent was the following: 1)Less than comfortable bus. 2)Some bus rides that were too long in spots. 3)A few stops that were too long like Castell Coch

Travel tips for Wales trips

As part of the United Kingdom, Wales uses the British pound sterling (£), often abbreviated as GBP. To stock up, order some from your bank before departing or use your debit card at an ATM once you arrive. For tips on using GBP while on our tours of Wales, check out our blog on currency exchange  →

Two languages are widely spoken in Wales: English and Welsh (Cymraeg). English is the predominant language for most daily activities, communication, and business interactions.

We recommend spending at least three days on a tour of Wales.

Whether you enjoy exploring historic sites, immersing yourself in nature, or experiencing thrilling adventures, Wales has something to offer you. Some of our favorite activities include:

Exploring castles. Wales is known for its impressive medieval fortresses, such as Caernarfon Castle, Conwy Castle, and Cardiff Castle. Exploring these historic sites allows you to step back in time and learn about Wales’ rich history.

Hiking and walking. The Welsh countryside is dotted with beautiful hiking trails, including the famous Wales Coast Path. The diverse landscapes offer stunning vistas and a chance to connect with nature.

Visiting National Parks. Wales boasts several jaw-dropping parks, most notably Snowdonia, Brecon Beacons, and Pembrokeshire Coast. These areas are perfect for outdoor activities, spotting wildlife, and enjoying the country’s natural beauty.

Exploring coastal areas. The Welsh coastline is known for its rugged beauty and picturesque beaches. Enjoy a scenic walk, relax on the sandy shores, or indulge in water sports like kayaking and paddleboarding.

A land of majestic landscapes and history, this nation has something to offer everyone. Some of the top attractions to explore on our Wales tours include:

Cardiff Castle. Located in the Welsh capital, Cardiff Castle is a Victorian Gothic revival mansion, situated within the walls of an ancient Roman fort, that showcases a fascinating blend of architectural styles.

Roman Baths. Found in Caerleon, the Roman Baths are a well-preserved archaeological site that provides a fascinating glimpse into the lives of the Roman soldiers who once lived there. Built around 75 A.D., the baths were part of a large fortress that served as a military base during the Roman occupation of Britain.

Cardiff Bay. This vibrant waterfront development includes the Wales Millennium Centre, a stunning arts complex, and the Norwegian Church, a unique wooden structure that was once at the center of Cardiff’s Norwegian community. Stroll along the waterfront, enjoy a meal at one of the many restaurants, and take in the modern architecture.

Wales offers a variety of unique experiences that allow you to immerse yourself in its rich culture, history, and natural beauty. Here are some of our top picks:

  • Stargazing in dark-sky preserves. Wales has several dark-sky preserves—places that restrict artificial light pollution and make for unparalleled stargazing. Join a stargazing tour and see for yourself!
  • Tasting Welsh whisky and gin. Visit Wales’ distilleries to sample the country’s unique (and increasingly popular) whisky and gin. Distilleries like Penderyn offer tours and tastings.
  • Riding a steam train. Journey through the Welsh landscape on the Ffestiniog Railway, a historic steam train that winds through stunning Snowdonia National Park. Marvel at mountain, valley, and forest views as you travel in a restored Victorian carriage.

On any tour of Wales, be mindful of the country’s cultural customs and etiquette to show respect for its traditions and people. Here are some tips to keep in mind:

Welsh language. While English is widely spoken, particularly in urban areas, some regions are predominantly Welsh-speaking. Respect the use of the Welsh language and appreciate bilingual signage.

Greeting people. A simple “hello” or “good morning/afternoon/evening” is appropriate when meeting someone. A handshake is the standard form of greeting, and a smile is always appreciated.

Politeness. The Welsh value politeness and courtesy. Use “please” (“os gwelwch yn dda” in Welsh) and “thank you” (“diolch”) frequently in your interactions.

Punctuality. Timeliness is valued in Welsh culture. If you’re invited to an event or a gathering, arrive punctually.

Public behavior. Respect personal space and maintain a considerate distance from others, especially strangers. Public displays of affection should be modest.

Five things to know before you book a Wales trip package →

Known for its variability, the climate in Wales can vary depending on the time of year and location. The country’s proximity to the Atlantic Ocean and mountainous regions contribute to the ever-changing weather conditions. Here are some general characteristics to keep in mind:

Mild winters. Generally mild compared to other parts of the UK, winters in Wales average temperatures from around 36 F–46 F.

Cool summers. Also relatively mild, average summer temperatures range from around 54 F– 68 F. However, temperatures can occasionally reach into the upper 70s during warm spells.

Rainfall. Wales is known for its frequent rainfall, and showers can occur at any time of the year. The wettest months tend to be from October to January.

Sunshine. Expect a moderate amount of sunshine in Wales, with the sunniest weather typically arriving in May and June.

Snowfall. You may find snow at higher elevations, in places like Snowdonia National Park, during the winter months.

Microclimates. Wales’ myriad landscapes can create local microclimates. For example, coastal areas might experience milder temperatures than inland regions.

Wind. Due to its exposed coastal locations, Wales can experience strong winds, especially by  the shore and on higher ground.

If you’re looking for a balance of pleasant weather, outdoor activities, and fewer crowds, spring or autumn would be ideal times to visit Wales. Summer is also a great option if you prioritize warm temperatures and beach time—but be prepared for more crowds and slightly higher prices. Winter offers a unique charm and festive atmosphere, but be prepared for cooler temperatures and potential rain or snow. Here are additional considerations for each season:

Spring (March to May). A delightful time to visit Wales, spring sees landscapes come alive with colorful blossoms and the weather start to warm up. This season is excellent for exploring gardens, hiking, and enjoying outdoor activities. (It’s also less crowded.)

Summer (June to August). The peak tourist season in Wales, summer offers relatively mild weather and longer days, providing more time for sightseeing and outdoor adventures. This is the best time for festivals, beach visits, and exploring the countryside.

Autumn (September to November). A magical season with beautiful foliage, fall brings pleasant weather, making it an excellent time to hike and explore national parks. It’s also the harvest season, and you can enjoy local produce and visit food festivals during our Wales tours.

Winter (December to February). Winter in Wales can be cold and wet, but it offers a cozy and serene atmosphere. It’s a quieter time for tourism, too, making it ideal for those seeking a peaceful getaway. If you’re interested in winter sports, Snowdonia National Park offers solid opportunities.

Welsh cuisine reflects the country’s cultural heritage and natural resources, focusing on fresh and locally sourced ingredients. Some popular dishes include:

Welsh cakes. These traditional griddle cakes are made with flour, sugar, butter, and currants or raisins. They are often served with a sprinkle of sugar and are a beloved treat.

Bara brith. This fruitcake is a classic Welsh tea time treat, made with dried fruits soaked in tea and mixed with spices. It’s often served sliced and buttered.

Cawl. A hearty traditional soup, cawl is made with meat (usually lamb or beef), root vegetables, and leeks. It’s a comforting dish, primarily served during the winter months.

When packing for our trips to Wales, it’s essential to consider when you’ll be traveling and the activities you plan to engage in. Wales has a temperate maritime climate with variable weather, so it’s wise to pack clothing suitable for a range of conditions. Here’s a comprehensive packing list:

Waterproof and windproof jacket or coat. Coastal winds and rainfall are common in Wales, so be ready for both. An umbrella or foldable rain poncho will come in handy, too.

Layered clothing. Variable temperatures call for a mix of t-shirts, sweaters or fleece, and long-sleeved shirts to keep you comfortable throughout the day.

Comfortable walking shoes.  Wales’ rugged coastlines and cobblestoned village streets require a comfortable pair of walking shoes or hiking books. For extra protection, make sure they’re waterproof.

Light rainproof pants. If you’re traveling during the rainy months from October to January, these are a must.

Hat and gloves. Planning a winter trip? These will help keep you warm.

Daypack or backpack. For day trips and outdoor activities, a daypack or backpack will comfortably carry your water, snacks, and rain gear.

Sun protection. Bring high-SPF sunscreen and lip balm, sunglasses, long-sleeved shirts, and a wide-brimmed hat to protect yourself, especially during the summer months.

Once you’ve reserved one of our guided tours of Wales, we’ll send you detailed information about what to bring. Download the free  Go Ahead Tours app  before you take off, so you’ll have all the info you need about your trip right in your pocket.

On the Border

Wonderful tour company! Me and my fiancée booked 3 day tours with them and it was one of the most amazing experiences.

Chris was super knowledgeable about everything in Wales from history, mythology, politics, fun facts and the Welsh language. He had no problem answering any questions we had. We went to all the sites on my list, rural Castles, Neolithic and historic sites on tiny roads that I wouldn’t feel comfortable driving on. Chris was a wonderful guide; he would give us plenty of time to explore the sites and then leave us some time to eat and explore areas by ourselves. Traveling through Wales was much more memorable with Chris’s commentary. Can not recommend this company enough. He also took amazing photos of us.

If you’re coming to Wales and want to see all the gems it has to offer, I highly recommend this company. Very professional and wonderful service.

Chris went above and beyond to ensure that we had the very best experience possible during our 5-day stay in Wales. He managed to put together an itinerary for each day from our very long list of places we wanted to visit. He gave us so much background history and cultural information from a Welsh perspective that we felt immersed and no longer visitors to this beautiful place. We found the ancestral homesteads we were looking for. The current owner, by sheer chance, had information on our family history that he was willing to share. It was more than I could have dreamed to learn! Life changing! I have to come back and I will hire Chris again.

We had an incredible day with Chris as our guide. He emailed that morning to let us know he was on the way to the port to pick us up and was waiting when we go off the ship. Chris is incredibly knowledgeable about Wales and its history. We had ample time to explore Caernarfon Castle, then had a stunning drive through Snowdonia National Park, and lunch and explore in Conwy. This was our favourite day on our British Isles cruise. I highly recommend Chris and North Wales Guided Tours and would not hesitate to use them again. Thank you for a memorable day!

Chris and North Wales Guided Tours are EXCELLENT!!! Four of us took a trip to North Wales in September 2023, and took 4 separate full day tours with Chris in his beautiful van. We found him with a search on the internet and feel really fortunate that we did. Chris is a native to north Wales and has decades of experience in the area and a vast knowledge of sights, history (paleo to modern) activities and adventure sports (walking, hiking, biking, kayaking, skiing). We had some ideas about sights we wanted to see and things to do and Chris was able to help us put together a custom itinerary and guide us to what we wanted and got us to places that you won’t find in the books or online guides. He also knows the weather in Wales, which can strongly affect activities and itineraries. Chris is also incredibly polite, professional, adventurous and fun. And he was also really, really patient and attentive with us and our needs, even after four days! I cannot recommend him more highly. One more note, if you are thinking about renting a car to get to some of these places in north Wales, just know it’s not for the faint of heart – often involving VERY narrow one lane roads with no shoulder, opposing truck and farm traffic requiring backing up, heavy rain, poor internet, satellite and NAV connections and wrong NAV guidance. I have driven on numerous trips in Europe, but this area is tricky. So do yourself a favor and look out the window on this trip and enjoy the scenery and Chris’s company!

We came up to North Wales in late September having had to cancel our trip to Kenya due to the epidemic. Chris met us of the train from London and we spent 2 wonderful days touring the fabulous scenery and sites of the area. We spent time exploring castles and deserted beaches that could have been in the Caribbean. We’ll definitely be back!

Recently we needed to travel from Bath to Conwy in North Wales in one day. Rather than have a plain transfer, along the motorways through the industrial English Midlands, we had a wonderful full day tour with Chris from North Wales Guided Tours. He took us along the scenic route, colloquially known as Route 66. It was fantastic and we couldn’t have been happier with the trip. Chris took us through stunning countryside – lush green valleys, rugged mountain areas, seaside and quaint small villages. We stopped several times for refreshments and photo opportunities. Chris himself was very pleasant to be with and gave us plenty of interesting history about various aspects of Wales. His late model Mercedes van was nice and clean and very comfortable.

We thoroughly recommend Chris from North Wales Guided Tours, and this scenic tour in particular.

Chris was an excellent tour guide and put together a most enjoyable day out for us on our 2 days round Snowdonia. His commentary was most informative and entertaining, and nothing was too much trouble. We had a great tour!

Dear Chris. We couldn’t have been happier with our choice of North Wales Guided Tours for our pickup from the Cotswolds, 3 days in North Wales and transfer up to the lake District. The highlight of our whole trip to the UK was the visit to Ashton Hall, the house that my ancestor had lived in before moving to America in the 1700s. Considering you managed to locate the Hall and organise a personal visit from the tiniest scrap of information I’d mentioned in passing – you definitely went above and beyond and I can’t thank you enough.

We spent a wonderful winter weekend touring North Wales last January with North Wales Guided Tours. My wife, 2 children and I travelled by train from London and Chris was waiting for us at Chester Train station for the journey into Wales and our luxury 5 Star Hotel. We then spent 2 days great days getting to know North Wales with Chris. Such a beautiful place – even in winter. As soon as we got back home to London, the guidebooks were out planning for our next visit in the summer.

During our travels around Europe over the last few years, we’ve been fortunate enough to stay in top end Hotels and get guide recommendations from the Concierges. The guides invariably mirror you: worldly, passionate and steeped in regional history. We so much enjoyed our time with you, including our compressed history lesson on Wales. Now I can go home and read more about your wonderful country.

escorted tours wales

North Wales provides a great destination to discover and explore. With so much to see and do and a great variety of interesting tour content, we recommend three or four days of touring.

Naturally, having a good base to tour from is a key component and we recommend two great locations with the Victorian coastal resort town of Llandundo or the medieval walled town of Convy.

There is plenty of accommodation to choose from and we recommend that you consider a single base to tour out from each day, as in the season there is so much demand for accommodation, that single night stays are generally not available at the better rated accommodation.

About Booking This Tour

Travel Documents

If you are a U.S. citizen traveling internationally , you will need a passport valid for six months beyond the completion of your Tauck journey to enter the United Kingdom; however, you do not need a visa for the short duration of this tour.

If you are a citizen of another country traveling internationally, you should contact an embassy or consulate of the United Kingdom to determine what travel documentation is required.

Please note that longer stays abroad for any purpose may require additional travel documentation.

We recommend that you make at least two photocopies of all the travel documents that you bring with you. Include copies of the photo page of your passport that contains the date of issuance, the date of expiration and your citizenship. Secure one set of copies in the safe in your room while traveling and leave one set behind with someone at home who will assist you in the event your documents are misplaced, lost or stolen.

To facilitate Travel Requirements, destinations are increasingly utilizing online forms that require digital proof that you've successfully completed your submission (via an email, QR code, etc.) To ensure smooth travels and peace of mind, we strongly recommend all guests carry a personal smart phone and sign up for international data plans before traveling overseas.

TRAVELING WITH CHILDREN AS A GUARDIAN: If you are traveling as the guardian of a child/children, we strongly suggest that you carry a letter from both parents of the child authorizing emergency treatment in the event of illness or accident. For travel abroad, many foreign countries have specific entry requirements for children under 21 who are traveling internationally without BOTH parents. (These requirements are in response to the increased incidence of children being abducted and taken abroad.) PLEASE NOTE THAT TAUCK IS NOT RESPONSIBLE for the disruption of travel caused by improper documentation for children traveling without both parents.

Travel Protection Plan

Effective for plans purchased as of July 1, 2021:

Tauck's Guest Protection

Tauck's Guest Protection provides you with cancellation protection before your journey begins as well as insurance benefits while you are traveling. Guest Protection includes the following:

Cancellation Waiver – Provided by Tauck:

Under Tauck's Cancellation Fee Waiver you can cancel your tour for ANY REASON up to the day before departure and receive a money-back refund (except in Extreme Circumstances*) on the land tour cost, based on your original method of payment.

*Extreme Circumstances:  In the event of an act of God, war (whether declared or undeclared), terrorism, accident, natural disaster, outbreak of disease, or other event or circumstance beyond our control that contributes to or results in cancellation rates above our historical cancellation rates in the absence of such event or occurrence, Tauck reserves the right to issue a credit to you in lieu of a money-back refund, applicable to a future Tauck journey.

Travel Insurance Benefits – Underwritten by United States Fire Insurance Company.

  • Trip Cancellation –  If you must cancel your tour due to a covered reason, the plan provides coverage for the amount you paid for your travel arrangements. Since the non-insurance cancellation waiver takes care of the land package cancellation fees already, this benefit reimburses the airfare cancellation charges up to the value of your original airfare purchase.
  • Trip Interruption –  If you have to interrupt your tour for covered reasons, the plan provides reimbursement to catch up to your tour or return home.
  • Travel Delay –  Provides reimbursement for missed, prepaid travel arrangements if you are delayed by a common carrier, natural disaster, unannounced strike, or other reasons as cited in the plan.
  • Medical Expense –  Reimburses covered medical expenses incurred in the event you become injured or sick during your trip.
  • Baggage / Personal Effects Protection –  Provides reimbursement in the event your luggage or personal effects are, lost, stolen, damaged or delayed during your trip.
  • Worldwide Emergency Assistance Services –  Provided by Carefree Travel Assistance; 24-hour emergency telephone assistance hotline for medical and travel related problems.

The cost of Tauck's Guest Protection is: $559  per person

This protection provides insurance coverage that applies only during the covered trip. You may have coverage from other sources that provides you with similar benefits but may be subject to different restrictions depending upon your other coverages. You may wish to compare the terms of this policy with your existing life, health, home and automobile policies. If you have any questions about your current coverage, call your insurer, insurance agent or broker.

This optional Guest Protection must be requested at time of booking and fee must be included with initial payment. Fees are based on costs as of July 1, 2021, and are subject to change. Details will be provided with written confirmation of your tour reservation. Guest Protection does not protect travel agent commissions. Reimbursements will be made according to original method of payment. The amount of any refund shall be reduced by any recoveries obtained by you from any third parties.

The Guest Protection plan waives cancellation fees outlined below, provided we are notified of cancellation before your tour departs. Tour cancellation fees are waived regardless of reason, without written notice, and Tauck will refund land tour cost.

To obtain your state-specific Certificate of Insurance that contains the complete terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions of the certificate, visit  affinitytravelcert.com/docs/TACGPPINTL .

If You Have To Cancel

If you cancel within 10 days of initial deposit Within the first 10 days after you place your initial deposit, you may cancel your reservation for any reason with no cancellation fees. If you cancel more than 10 days after initial deposit Regardless of reason, cancellations result in costly charges from our travel and hotel providers covering penalties and fees incurred by canceling confirmed bookings. These fees vary from tour to tour. Therefore, the following fees apply.

Cancellation Fees with Tauck's Guest Protection Plan:

Loss of Guest Protection fee, per person

Cancellation Fees without Tauck's Guest Protection Plan :

60 days or more before departure = $600 per person

59-8 days before departure = $900 per person

Travel Requirements For This Tour

Air Information and Luggage Restrictions

AIRFARE: Airfare to and from this destination is not included in the journey cost. If purchasing your air elsewhere, it is very important to provide us with your confirmed arriving and departing flight information no later than 3 weeks before your arrival date. Flight information can be submitted to Tauck (or verified, if you've already provided it) in the My Account section of Tauck.com.

TAUCK AIRPORT TRANSFERS are included at the start and end of the journey between the airport and the Tauck hotel. Airport transfers are available for any pre tour or post tour hotel stays immediately consecutive to the tour, providing flight information is received in the Tauck office no later than three weeks in advance. Details on locating your transfer upon arrival to the tour start city will be included in your final documents.

AIRLINES and CHECKED LUGGAGE: Due to space limitations during your Tauck journey, we ask that you please limit your checked luggage to one average-size suitcase per person. Besides complying with the Tauck restriction noted above, you should also be sure to research and comply with all airline baggage restrictions relating to your flights to and from your Tauck journey. Airlines have become much more strict in enforcing size and weight limits in recent years, and are free to revise luggage policies without notice. Researching and complying with airline luggage restrictions is the responsibility of the guest, and Tauck cannot be held responsible for any costs or disruptions to travel caused by the failure to research and comply with airline policies. PLEASE NOTE that if you are booked on a tour that includes on-tour flights, the checked luggage weight restrictions for these flights may be lower than the weight restrictions for your international flights.

Checked Luggage – General

Due to space restrictions, we ask that you please limit your checked luggage to one suitcase per person weighing no more than 50 pounds (23 kg) and with overall dimensions (length + width + height) not exceeding 62 inches (158 cm).

Besides complying with the Tauck restriction noted above, you should also be sure to research and comply with all airline baggage restrictions relating to your flights to and from your Tauck journey. Airlines have become much more strict in enforcing size and weight limits in recent years, and luggage exceeding airline standards for size or weight may result in expensive overage fees or other consequences.

Airlines are free to revise luggage policies without notice, and certain airlines have different baggage allowances for different classes of service. Researching and complying with airline luggage restrictions is the responsibility of the guest, and Tauck cannot be held responsible for any costs or disruptions to travel caused by the failure to research and comply with airline policies.

Tauck luggage tags will be provided by your Tauck Director on Day 1 of your itinerary. Please do not attach a Tauck luggage tag to any carry-on items, as the Tauck tags designate luggage that is to be handled and transferred by ground operators and hotel staff during your journey.

Carry-on Luggage - General

Although oversize bags and wheeled, carry-on luggage are popular for airline travel, they are often not convenient or appropriate for motor coach travel or for many on-tour flights. Most modern sightseeing motor coaches offer limited space for numerous or larger items. Space under seats or in the overhead rack is typically small, and designed to accommodate items like coats, hats, purses, and small camera bags, etc.

For your day-to-day travel while on tour, we recommend that you limit your hand luggage to a small, soft-sided carry-on piece, and that you bring only those items you need handy during the day such as make-up, medications, cameras, film, etc. Items too large to fit under the motor coach seat or on the overhead rack must be stored in the luggage bays beneath the motor coach, and may be inaccessible during daytime travel.

Health, Safety and Mobility

HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS

While drinking water is generally safe at all our hotels, bottled water will be available wherever the local water is not fit to drink. We also provide bottled water on the motor coaches.

There is a smoking ban in public places throughout Scotland. The Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa is a non-smoking property, with no 'smoking' rooms available.

Please check with your health insurance provider to determine whether you are covered while traveling. If you will not be covered under your current policy, we strongly suggest that you arrange for adequate coverage while on tour.

If you have a medical condition that might limit your participation in activities, please consult your physician for pre-departure health advice and notify us as soon as possible, if you have not already done so. We will advise your Tauck Director accordingly.

VACCINATIONS

If you are a resident of the U.S., no vaccinations are currently required for travel to the United Kingdom. For complete vaccination and inoculation information please contact your physician, the public health service in your area, or the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to obtain information regarding vaccinations that may be required for your journey. The Travelers' Health Section of the CDC operates a 24-hour "Travelers' Health Hotline" at 800-232-4636 (toll-free in the U.S.). You may also log on to the CDC website by clicking here .

If you are a resident of another country, please contact an embassy or consulate of the United Kingdom to determine what vaccination(s) may be required for your travel.

SPECIAL DIETARY REQUESTS

The restaurants, hotels, caterers and numerous other partners we work with all do their best to accommodate special dietary requests from Tauck guests. However, given the diverse nature of those food providers (from small wineries to grand hotels to world-famous restaurants in more than 70 countries worldwide), some of our partners are better able than others to accommodate such requests. We therefore cannot guarantee that all dietary requests can be accommodated at every meal. Also, please note that where dietary requests can be accommodated, choices will frequently be limited.

England, Scotland & Wales involves a considerable amount of walking. To enjoy this tour, you should be in good health and able to walk reasonable distances, often over unpaved and uneven surfaces. Some of the most memorable sightseeing can only be accomplished on foot. The amount of walking you do, however, is at your discretion. The castle visits at Edinburgh, Stirling and Caernarfon and the visit to Levens Hall & Gardens are challenging for those with difficulty walking as they have steep steps, cobblestone walkways and hillside gardens. Some walks can be extensive on flat terrain in places such as Stratford-upon-Avon.

PLEASE NOTE: We regret that this Tauck itinerary cannot accommodate wheelchairs or motorized scooters. Likewise, we regret that we're unable to provide individual assistance to guests with walking difficulties or other personal needs. The responsibility of the Tauck Director who accompanies your trip is to ensure that the larger group enjoys a relaxing and informative journey, and he or she cannot be relied upon to provide ongoing individual assistance to any one guest. Guests requiring such individualized assistance must be accompanied by an able-bodied companion who can provide it.

Reading List

We have compiled a reading list of recommended books to give you more information about the destinations you will be traveling to on your upcoming journey!

You can view the reading list  here.

The climate of the United Kingdom is notoriously variable and changeable from day to day. Weather is generally cool to mild with frequent cloud cover and rain, but occasional settled spells of weather occur in all seasons. As a general rule, the western side of the United Kingdom is cloudier, wetter, and milder in winter, with cooler summers than the eastern side. The eastern side of the United Kingdom is drier the year round, with a tendency for summer rain to be heavier than that of winter. You will rarely experience severe or unpleasant weather for long; however, you should be prepared for rapid changes of weather in all seasons. There is good reason for weather being a major talking point in the United Kingdom!

To read about current weather conditions, we suggest you log on to the Internet website by clicking here.

What To Pack

Bringing the right clothing for your trip is important – we've partnered with New Headings who provide an "easy-to-use, one-stop shop" for your Tauck travel needs, specifically selected for this trip. Click here to visit their site .

The weather in the United Kingdom is moderate but unpredictable. Your journey is designed with leisure in mind. Dress for comfort and convenience with a wardrobe that is adaptable and allows for layering. Generally, during the day, casual, comfortable, cotton clothing is recommended. Cool weather at higher elevations or at night will require warmer, layered clothing.

In Europe, especially in finer restaurants, it is generally customary to dress somewhat formally. Slacks or a dress for women and a jacket and tie for men are acceptable dining attire, although not required. It is advisable to avoid wearing jeans, sneakers or shorts for dinner. You may also wish to dress up a bit for the welcome reception and the farewell dinner, but by all means be comfortable.

You will find a hair dryer located in your hotel guest room. Irons and ironing boards are available upon request. Valet laundry and dry cleaning services are also available for a fee.

We recommend that you pack an adequate supply of your prescription medication in its original container to last through your entire journey, together with a copy of your doctor's prescription or a letter from your health-care provider on office stationery explaining that the medication has been prescribed for you, a list of the generic names of your medication, your travel documents and a change of clothing in your carry-on bag to avoid any inconvenience in the event that your flight or luggage is delayed.

Following is a list of recommended items to pack for your trip to The United Kingdom:

  • Casual daytime wear – shorts, slacks, long and short-sleeved shirts
  • An optional jacket and tie for men
  • Casually elegant evening wear for ladies
