Gay Cruise, Gay Boat & Gay Yacht Holidays for Men
Some of the best gay holidays are away from dry land!
At Holidays4Men, our goal is to find unique gay holiday destinations for the LGBTQIA+ community - and they don’t come more special than adventures on the water! Gay men looking to set sail on a one-of-a-kind adventure have three incredible choices:
Gay Cruise - Sit back and relax - because on a gay cruise ship everything you could possibly want is within a moment’s reach. Glide from one destination to the next in your floating gay hotel - and enjoy the ultimate luxury, all-inclusive experience. With a range of packages to choose from, a gay cruise can be perfect for a gay trip in a group, gay couples or even your gay honeymoon.
Gay cruises have become dream-like gay vacations for gay men and couples alike. Some even opt for this option for their gay honeymoons, you can too! These are the adventures you need to experience to celebrate your love and friendships with your partner or gay friends. Even if you’re looking to travel alone, this might be the perfect option for you.
Gay Boat - Large cruise ships are not for everyone, but there are plenty of ways to enjoy smaller, more intimate gay boat holidays. A popular option is a gay-friendly river cruise, where you can travel down some of the most popular rivers in the world and take in the sights. The smaller boats used for river cruises still offer a slice of luxury - with restaurants, bars and gyms all on board.
Gay Yacht - For a truly memorable experience, why not consider chartering a yacht? It’s easier than you think to explore Europe’s most exotic sunny destinations on a gleaming white gay yacht. A captain will join you to help you navigate the gorgeous blue waters safely - and will even take you to idyllic, secluded stops along the way.
Whichever type of holiday takes your fancy, you’ll find plenty of gay-friendly destinations below!
Cristian says:
“My first time on a boat was when I was working as a waiter on a river cruise which sailed on the Danube (which flows through lovely Vienna – they city of music), the Mosel and the Rhein (with flows through historical Cologne and Amsterdam), and the Seine (which flows through romantic Paris).
I was so nervous, but also excited, to go and experience life on board a boat. Going to bed (in a tiny cabin!) in one country and waking up the next day in another country was a fabulous experience. I found out that river cruises have more of a family vibe, as you sail on a small ship with no more than 150 passengers.
I had the opportunity to see breathtaking views and picturesque landscapes, taste the most delicious food and wine, discover the cultures of Germany, France and the Netherlands - but I also got to party overnight in some of the most vibrant gay destinations in Europe!
In my time I have also experienced boat trips - and naked boat trips no less! - in the Baltic Sea between Stockholm and Helsinki, as well as the Atlantic Ocean - all truly memorable experiences.”

LGBTQ+ Cruise Vacations
At Celebrity Cruises, we value diversity among all our guests and crew, and we strive to create an inclusive environment for everyone. Whether you are joining us onboard for a vacation, your honeymoon, or even your wedding, we are proud to be the best cruise line for gay, lesbian, and all LGBTQ+ guests.
Pride Month at Sea
Each June, Celebrity Cruises ® hosts our annual Pride Party at Sea. Every ship takes part in the celebration that brings our crew and guests together to honor and celebrate Pride.
Same Sex Weddings
Celebrity Cruises ® is proud to offer legal same-sex marriages on board. The motion follows a transformative vote in Malta, where a majority of the Celebrity fleet is registered, which passed the country’s parliament 66-1. The long-awaited referendum opens the door for Celebrity to legally recognize same-sex marriages performed on board, and have the fleet’s captains officiate the ceremonies.
First Legal Same Sex Marriage at Sea
In a historic ceremony hosted on board Celebrity Equinox ℠ in January 2018, Francisco Vargas and Benjamin Gray became the first same-sex couple ever to be legally married at sea on a major cruise line.
LGBTQ+ Events Onboard
Our popular LGBTQ+ Welcome Parties are open to all guests fleetwide and take place on the first night of almost every cruise. This event is a great ice breaker and opportunity for people to meet. In addition to the Welcome Party, Celebrity also hosts various LGBTQ+ events and social hours onboard.

Best major cruise lines for LGBTQ+ cruises
LGBT-friendly cruises are ubiquitous these days, with most major cruise lines priding themselves on inclusivity.
LGBT cruise holidays are far from a rarity nowadays as cruise lines vie to be the most welcoming they can be.
We’ve investigated what major cruise lines are doing to make sure everyone in the LGBTQ+ community is included out on the waterways of the world.
From Celebrity Cruises to Royal Caribbean, this is what you should know about LGBT cruises with the big names in cruising.
Celebrity Cruises - LGBT cruises
Celebrity Cruises prides (sorry) itself in valuing the importance of diversity among guests and crew. The proof is in the pudding – the luxury line was awarded LGBTQ+ Friendly Travel Company of the year in 2016 and won the title of Best Large Ship Cruise Line for LGBTQ+ Passengers four years in a row.
The brand has been performing legally recognised same-sex marriages onboard its ship since 2017.
Celebrity Cruises’ LGBT Welcome Parties are held on the first night of almost every cruise and are open to all guests. There are also various LGBTQ+ events and social hours onboard throughout the cruise.
What’s more, the line holds a Pride Party at Sea every June (its LGBT cruise 2022 was its fourth annual celebration) and has been a major sponsor for Miami Beach Gay Pride two years in a row.
– READ MORE: How can cruising become more inclusive? –
Royal caribbean - lgbt cruises.
As for LGBT cruise Royal Caribbean , the line has also won awards for its LGBT-friendly cruises – in 2016 it was the first cruise brand to receive the sought-after distinction of being Gay Travel Approved by GayTravel.com, the ‘go-to’ resource for members of the LGBT community.
This was thanks to its ongoing commitment to the LGBT community, demonstrating a spirit of diversity and inclusion on all of its ships.
This year, the line started a new partnership with Pride 365. The Pride 365 seal recognises Royal Caribbean International as an organisation publicly committed to being an active year-round supporter of the LGBT+ community, treating their LGBT+ employees, guests and crew members with dignity and respect and having workplaces that are committed to real inclusion.
Ben Bouldin, Vice President EMEA, Royal Caribbean International, told Sailawaze: “As a holiday provider, our aim is to put a smile on our guests’ faces 365 days a year. We believe that our differences make us stronger and that happy employees make for happy guests and happiness comes from the freedom to inexplicably be true to oneself, both in the workplace and on holiday.
“We are committed to cultivating a trusting environment where all ideas are welcomed and where employees feel comfortable and empowered to have meaningful discussions — a place where they know they belong.”
The company also hosts LGBT meet and great events, regular LGBT cruise events onboard and symbolic same-sex marriage ceremonies at sea or at select ports of call.
While Royal Caribbean isn’t currently promoting any LGBTQ-themed sailings itself, the ships are often chartered by companies that run LGBTQ-themed charters.
A past passenger of the line said: “From the moment I set foot on my first Royal Caribbean cruise, I felt like I belonged… On every one of my cruising adventures, I feel like I am home and that Royal Caribbean is my family.”
Virgin Voyages - LGBT cruises
Virgin Voyages “welcomes and celebrates members of the LGBTQ+ community every day”. All the line’s ships offer gender-neutral and accessible bathrooms and allow “sailors” to select the gender in which they identify when sailing.
Virgin Voyages held a Pride party onboard Scarlet Lady in June 2022. The LGBT cruise 2022 offered PRIDE-themed cocktails and DJ Hannah Rad who has performed at Lollapalooza was on the decks (sorry, again).
Then in August 2022 the line offered a Studio 54-inspired adults-only voyage around the Caribbean as Fluid hosted a series of disco parties aboard Virgin Voyages.
Fluid is known for attracting a diverse and inclusive crowd that enjoys music and fashion; the nightclub concept ensures it creates an inclusive environment, both ego and label-free, where people can be their true, authentic selves.
“Diversity and acceptance are some of our key pillars, so we can’t wait to bring people of all different backgrounds together on the ship,” said David Darden, Senior Manager of Influencer Marketing at Virgin Voyages ahead of the sailing
“The judgement-free atmosphere we’ve cultivated, paired with the vibe of this crowd is going to make for one truly unforgettable moment.”
P&O Cruises - LGBT cruises
Among the LGBT cruise lines is also P&O Cruises which “celebrates the diversity, inclusion, and equality of all people,” and in June 2022 changed its logo to feature a rainbow to reflect its “commitment to the LGBTQ+ community.” The cruise line also continues to partner with and sponsor Southampton Pride.
P&O’s parent company Carnival Corporation has been recognised for its LGBT employment practices, scoring a perfect 100 on the Human Right Campaigns’ (a leading global non-profit organization working to advance diversity, inclusion and gender equality at work) corporate equality index.
In 2021 P&O Australia announced its first-ever LGBT+ Pride cruise would set sail in November. The LGBT cruise 2022 aimed to “honour pride in self, the diversity of the community and the endless variety of talented artists, entertainers and educators in it”.
Carnival’s UK’s president Sture Myrmell commented: “P&O Cruises has long been a supporter of diversity and inclusivity, championing marriage equality and working with campaigners of inclusivity.”
– READ MORE: What’s included on a P&O Cruises holiday? –
Azamara - LGBT cruises
Azamara is another great LGBT cruise line . It won “Best Small Ship Cruise Line for LGBTQ Passenger”, and was voted by LGBTQ cruisers as “Best Small Ship Cruise line” for seven consecutive years.
Azamara hosts multiple shindigs for the LGBTQ+ community. In its own words: “We’ll roll out the rainbow carpet with activities and events that embrace and celebrate your community and your allies.
It also visits “welcoming destinations” with each of its LGBTQ-friendly cruises and hosts Pride cocktail parties.
Princess Cruises - LGBT cruises
Is Princess Cruises LGBT-friendly? The answer is yes, and has been for some time. LGBT meet-ups are held every sea day as well as events aimed at the LGBT community.
The line also will not call at “unfriendly” destinations – in 2019 Princess dropped its calls at Brunei over anti-LGBT laws.
“At Princess Cruises, we celebrate diversity and equality and would avoid any location where any guests are not treated with dignity and respect,” a Princess spokesperson said at the time.

Seabourn & Holland America Line - LGBT cruises
Seabourn and Holland America line both provide LGBT-friendly cruises that welcome guests “from all walks of life, ethnicities, cultures and backgrounds, including of course our very important LGBTQ guests,” said a spokeswoman.
Both cruise lines offer LGBTQ welcome parties and ‘get-togethers’ on regular cruises. What’s more, the vessels are occasionally chartered to organisations such as RSVP Vacations which has specialised in gay men and lesbian cruising since 1985.

Viking cruises - lgbt cruises.
As for LGBT river cruises, Viking is an LGBT-friendly cruise line. Ships offer regular LGBTQ+ meet-ups as well as entire-ship charters for LGBTQ+ travellers.
If you needed further convincing, in 2019, Viking won Best River Cruise Line for LGBTQ+ Passengers.
LGBT river cruises are growing in popularity and stop at a range of LGBT-friendly destinations such as Amsterdam.
Uniworld’s mantra when it comes to satisfying its LGBTQ+ audience is “inclusivity goes beyond amenities”.
The line offers annual dedicated week-long cruises full of fun, friendship and memorable travels for LGBTQ+ travellers and their friends, family and allies. Hosted by gay and lesbian travel veterans, Gregg Kaminsky & Kelli Carpenter, these holidays feature special programming, such as LGBTQ+ performers, dance parties, themed events and more.
What’s more, Uniworld’s sensitivity training takes care to ensure its personalised service approach is responsive to the LGBTQ+ community, with staff taking part in a series of expert-led LGBTQ+ training sessions.

Top Destinations for LGBTQ+ Travel in the UK
There’s a thriving gay community in the UK, so it’s not a surprise why it’s considered one of the best destinations in the world for gay travelers. It all started following England’s decriminalization of sexual activities between men specifically in the 1960s, followed by Wales and later Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Nowadays, you will find plenty of gay villages in the UK where you can meet and socialize with other members of the gay community. These fun and exciting cultural hotspots are well worth the visit, giving you the freedom to let loose without the fear of being discriminated against or judged.
Here are the top destinations for gay travel in the UK:
The Cotswolds
The Cotswolds is packed with breathtaking green landscapes, scenic rolling hills, and postcard-perfect villages. What’s more, it’s easily accessible and can make for an ideal day trip from London. Here, you are guaranteed a safe and fun holiday because the locals are very welcoming to everyone, including the members of the gay community.
There are many scenic hiking trails in the Cotswolds. If you’re into hiking, then hike up the National Trail, which covers more than 100 miles of scenic strolls, featuring the dramatic views of the countryside. If you’re travelling with your partner, visit the Lower Slaughter, dubbed the most romantic street in Britain. It’s home to the popular chocolate box villages that the Cotswolds is known for. The village is extremely charming, with honey-coloured houses throughout.
Don’t forget to explore the village of Kingham . It’s another typical Cotswolds village adorned with stunning limestone cottages and beautiful parks and gardens, ideal for picnics. The village is also home to some of England’s best pubs, where you can feast on Classic British fare paired with a glass or two of refreshing beer.
The Lake District
The Lake District is one of the UK’s most popular destinations, welcoming millions of tourists. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Lake District National Park encompasses an area of 2,000 sq km and is the largest national park of England. With its stunning lakes, woodland, and mountains, the Lake District is an ideal destination for gay travellers keen on exploring the great doors.
Exploring the massive Lake Windermere should be on top of your list of things to do in the Lake District . Covering an area of 15.5 square km, it’s the largest natural body of water in the country. You can enjoy the stunning views of the lakes from dozens of vantage points, including waterfront cafes and bars. Better yet, explore the trails by the lake on foot or bike. While in the Lake District, take time to discover the ancient Castlerigg Stone Circle. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site dating back to the Neolithic Period. The unique landmark was part of the megalithic tradition from around 3,200 BC, making it one of the oldest stone circles in Europe.
Given the many exciting things to explore in the Lake District, you may need to spend a few days to make the most of your visit. Consider staying in any of the many boutique hotels near the Lake District with easy access to the national park and the surrounding attractions.
The South Coast
As the sunniest place in the UK, the South Coast is a must-visit. It enjoys more than 1900 hours of sunshine each year and has over 400 miles of coastline to discover. The area is also home to Brighton and Cornwall , two of the most friendly cities for gay travel in the country.
The South Coast also plays host to some of the most legendary festivals in the country. One of these is the Cornwall Pride Parade, which celebrates diversity and raises awareness of the gay community.
Meanwhile, Brighton is a seaside resort city home to the famous Brighton Pier with food stalls and fun attractions. You can find everything here, from doughnuts to fish and chips, and more!
To delve into the rich history and heritage of the South Coast, visit one of the many castles and forts that line its coastline. These structures once defended the shores from invading forces, especially the Dover Castle, with hidden rooms and underground tunnels.
Scotland is the first country to have legalised same-sex marriage in the UK, so it’s not surprising why it’s considered one of the top destinations for gay travel. In most of its cities, you will find at least one gay bar, and the large cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh celebrate their own annual gay pride event.
Given the many attractions to explore in Scotland, the best way to take it all in is to go on a cruise. The Royal Scotland Cruise will take you on a fun sailing adventure across the country, visiting many of its historical sites.
During your visit to Scotland, make sure to experience its vibrant nightlife, especially in Edinburgh , which has the biggest gay community of all the Scottish cities. The queer performances at the Fringe are also worth checking out. Dubbed the “ Edinburgh Fringe “, it’s one of the world’s biggest art festivals.
The UK is one of the world’s most tolerant countries, and its capital city of London has some of the world’s largest gay communities. London is big, vibrant, exciting, and filled with many exciting activities. Here, you will find many gay-friendly hotels, bars, and restaurants.
Soho has long been a popular meeting place for members of the gay community. It’s lined with gay bars and clubs, especially in Old Compton Street , with popular venues including The Duke of Wellington and G-A-Y often filled with partygoers. The district, which once had a bad reputation for its seedy red-light district, is overtaken by chic cafes, trendy restaurants, and boutiques.
East London has recently emerged to become one of the most popular gay areas in the city, especially the neighbourhoods of Dalston and Shoreditch. Over the recent years, new burs and clubs have opened up in the area, alongside long-standing institutions. The gay community in London continues to thrive, so you will not lack options when going for gay nights out in the city.

Spartacus gay cruise returns in 2023 with seven day mediterranean trip
In partnership with spartacus cruises..
By Alastair James
Pictures: Supplied
Despite having some of the warmest UK temperatures on record recently, we know it’s not going to last forever. Soon enough we’ll be back to our winter sweaters longing for a glimpse of summer sun and that boost of Vitamin D.
Returning for the third year, Spartacus Cruise will be setting sail around the western Mediterranean in May 2023 (13-20) visiting Marseille, Elba, Rome, Livorno, Nice, and Corsica.
At each stop, there will be so much to see and do. Starting in France’s second-largest city, Marseille, a veritable melting pot of people and cultures includes walking tours, local delicacies, and ancient landmarks such as the Romanesque-Byzantine basilica, the Notre Dame de la Garde, which come with breathtaking views.
The next stop is the capital of Elba island, Portoferraio. The city’s fortifications are iconic and the nearby beaches are simply paradise.
It goes without saying that Rome has some incredible offerings. Whether that’s a walking tour of truly iconic sites such as the Trevi Fountain or the Pantheon and the Colosseum, or Vatican City you’ll never be short of things to do. After all, when in Rome!
The port city of Livorno in the north of Italy isn’t far from historic Pisa and its world-famous leaning tower. Florence is also not too far to visit with its medieval-like metropolis and sites such as Brunelleschi’s unique cathedral with its neighboring bell tower by Giotto.
A cabin with a balcony
Villefranche-sur-Mer in the enchanting Côte d’Azur is part of a glittering chain of French towns also including Cannes, Nice, St. Tropez, and Monaco. These can be explored on a panoramic tour of the French Riviera.
Finally, Corsica offers a mixture of elegant coastal towns, dense forests, and rugged peaks. The port city of Calvi is a tranquil town and the harbor promenade, with its cafés and restaurants invites you to observe, stroll and relax.
And you’ll be traveling in style onboard the Vasco da Gama. Boasting 630 cabins and suites ranging in size, this ship can accommodate nearly 1,300 passengers across nine decks. Of the cabins, the vast majority are out-ward facing and 150 come with balconies to really enjoy the experience of being at sea.
On board, you’ll find the fully equipped 24-hour gym and the spa with its dry and steam saunas are included in the trip price. You can even find the jogging trail on deck.
The Oasis pool
Two pools will keep you cool. One is prominently located at the stern of the ship with ample lounging areas. The other is mid-ship and features a movable roof.
The Vasco da Gama plays in the upper league with three à la carte restaurants to choose from. The Asian-oriented ‘Eurasia’, the ‘Pantry’ buffet restaurant reminiscent of a food court combining different cuisines, a garden bar with salads, as well as a candy store for desserts, and a meat grill.
This conceptual approach also extends to the numerous bars and culminates in ‘The Dome,”‘ an all-around glass viewing lounge.
The Grill restaurant
And a cruise like this doesn’t skip on the entertainment. Numerous LGBTQ artists will quite literally be on board with numerous poolside-themed parties such as ‘White’, ‘Wig’, or ‘Kinky’, where there are no limits when it comes to outfits.
Expect to find acrobatics, vocal performances, drag shows, and much, much more! And the ever-popular ‘Mr. Cruise’ contest will be running and all guests are welcome.
Prices currently start from 989 Euros. Here’s what’s included in your booking:
nicko Cruises full board:
– Rich breakfast with coffee, tea and juices in various restaurants.
– Buffets, show cooking or à la carte menus served at the table, depending on restaurant
– Flexible meal times with free choice of seats
– Coffee and cake depending on the daily program
– nicko cruises cruise director and German-speaking local tour guide
– Entertainment program and lectures about the country on board
– German-speaking service on board
– Comfortable Sennheiser audio system on all excursions
– Use of the fitness area, swimming pools, outdoor sports courts and wellness area with sauna (massage for a fee)
– Personal travel documents
– Luggage service between pier and cabin during embarkation and disembarkation
– All port and passenger fees
– Drinks packages
Two all-inclusive options are available upon request. The ‘Classic’ package costs 29 Euros per person per travel day and the ‘Premium’ package at 49 Euros per person per travel day.
The packages can be booked for double occupancy only for both cabin guests uniformly at any bar on embarkation day. If you want to save the queuing, you can order the packages (overview) already when booking your cabin.
And the good news is for all the planners out there – there’s a 10 percent early bird discount available until 31 August.

The 9 best gay cruises for 2024 (+ planning tips).
Dance parties, drag queen performances and fun destinations await on these LGBTQ voyages.
The Best Gay Cruises

Embark on an all-gay or LGBTQ-friendly cruise for excellent entertainment, food and excursions.
Whether you are looking to hop aboard a Pride Week cruise with a major line or sail away with a smaller company that specializes in LGBTQ voyages, the following cruise operators promise a fun, safe and memorable vacation.
(Note: While many of these cruise lines sail to LGBTQ-friendly ports of call, travelers should research destinations to learn more about cultures, customs and safety in each location and determine what's right for them.)
Virgin Voyages
Atlantis events, brand g vacations, celebrity cruises, royal caribbean international, the cruise with la demence, source journeys.
Gabriel Goldberg | Courtesy of VACAYA
Founded by avid travelers Randle Roper, Patrick Gunn and John Finen, VACAYA bills itself as the first all-LGBT travel company in the full-ship charter/resort buyout sector of the travel industry to launch in more than 25 years.
"[VACAYA] was sparked by our own vacations, where we all had encountered two very different experiences," says Gunn. "The all-gay cruises were liberating, empowering and fun, but limited to a small spectrum of people. And while everyone loves a good time, there's more to a memorable vacation than just parties. Mainstream vacations offered more activities and destinations, and were accessible to a diverse set of people, but didn't always feel like a friendly, judgment-free environment."
As such, VACAYA set out to bring LGBTQ travelers from across the spectrum together in a welcoming, inclusive setting, while offering varied onboard activities and immersive itinerary options. Cruisers will enjoy traveling to ports around the world, in the Caribbean , the Galápagos, Europe , Antarctica and more. You can participate in shipwide events ranging from themed deck parties to performances by LGBTQ entertainers to rejuvenating yoga classes. Note that VACAYA's cruises are for adults only.
Previous cruisers had abundant praise for VACAYA's voyages, highlighting the company's responsiveness when booking and the kindhearted staff, as well as the genuine connections they made with other passengers on board. Many were also impressed by the events and entertainment options throughout their sailings.
In 2024, VACAYA will offer a number of voyages worldwide. The seven-night Caribbean Cruise on Celebrity Apex in February will sail round-trip from Fort Lauderdale, with several fun-filled days at sea in addition to stops in Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Antigua. In August, VACAYA has a 12-night river cruise in Northern Europe on board Advance by Transcend Cruises; this sailing includes the Amsterdam Pride event. The 11-night Antarctica expedition on Atlas Ocean Voyages' World Navigator in December 2024 is sold out, but you can join the waitlist.
Courtesy of Virgin Voyages
The Virgin brand has long been known for its celebration of the LGBTQ community, and cruise line Virgin Voyages is no different. The strictly adults-only cruise operator aims to provide a unique experience, with onboard tattoo parlors, impressive live entertainment, and dining options that include more than 20 eateries and menus created by Michelin star chefs. This line gets the stamp of approval from previous LGBTQ cruisers, who praise the ships' gender-neutral bathrooms, diverse staff and onboard shows with resident drag queens.
Virgin Voyages offers gay-specific sailings through travel companies like Atlantis Events, but its more mainstream itineraries still offer a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere that attracts LGBTQ cruisers year-round. Virgin hosts a number of events during Pride Month each year, including deck parties and interactive social media campaigns.
"Each June here at Virgin Voyages, we like to go big for Pride Month with larger-than-life events … all monthlong," the cruise line says in a statement on its website. "It's an important time for us – both internally within our crew and for our sailors – to honor and celebrate the LGBTQ community; who for so long has had to continually fight for equality and the right to be seen, heard and included."
Virgin Voyages sails to a variety of LGBTQ-friendly countries, including New Zealand, Greece and Spain. In June 2024, consider a seven-night sailing aboard Scarlet Lady departing from Barcelona with stops in Marseille and Cannes in France as well as Spain's Palma de Mallorca and Ibiza.

The world's largest gay and lesbian travel brand, Atlantis Events was founded in 1991 and welcomes more than 20,000 travelers annually on LGBTQ vacations. For its all-gay cruises, Atlantis charters megaships from popular lines like Royal Caribbean International , Norwegian Cruise Line and Virgin Voyages in addition to smaller vessels with companies like Oceania Cruises so cruisers will have a fully immersive experience.
On board, travelers can enjoy all the perks these ships have to offer (think: pools, hot tubs, sports courts and plenty of dining choices), plus special events like drag performances, motivational speakers, LGBTQ movies on demand in each cabin and high-energy circuit parties across the ship.
"As an LGBTQ cruiser, you're looking for a ship with lots of entertainment, including dance parties and events," says Marcos Martinez, founder of Men Who Brunch, a Black gay lifestyle blog. "One of the best cruise [lines] for gay cruising is Atlantis, since you'll be able to meet hundreds of attractive men and party all day and night on the ship."
Atlantis hosts primarily gay men; women make up about 5% to 10% of bookings, according to the Atlantis website. Previous cruisers said the atmosphere on board was fun, friendly and welcoming, though some noted that the company's customer service could be better, especially when it comes to details about the cruise.
Due to the company's popularity, its three 2024 cruises are already sold out.

Courtesy of Brand G Vacations
Specializing in all-gay river cruises – and now luxury ocean liners – Brand g Vacations was founded in 2011 and explores destinations all over the world. Chartered river cruises typically welcome between 40 and 200 LGBTQ passengers (and their straight allies), which allows cruisers to get to know one another in a smaller setting. Guests tend to skew more mature (think: 40 and older), and the line attracts both men and women.
Onboard entertainment differs slightly from larger ocean voyages: Expect more cabaret-style entertainment than massive all-night dance parties. Cruisers will also enjoy performances by drag queens, gay Broadway stars and more, on top of typical river cruise perks like sightseeing and lavish meals. Past guests recommend choosing Brand g if you're looking for a well-planned, relaxed and luxurious experience over a busier, more party-heavy vacation.
Brand g aims to provide a nearly all-inclusive cruise experience , with Mercedes or small van airport transfers, upscale hotel stays prior to embarkation, and unlimited alcoholic beverages as well as meals included in the fare. As such, prices tend to be on the high end. Plus, cruisers can feel good about their trip knowing that Brand g donates to causes in the U.S. and around the world that assist LGBTQ refugees, AIDS organizations, LGBTQ centers and more.
In 2024, Brand g sails through unique waterways around the world, including the Amazon, the Loire, the Danube, the Mekong, and the Columbia and Snake rivers in the Pacific Northwest. The line's small cruise ship charters also take guests to Iceland, Spain, Morocco, Italy, Croatia and other European destinations.

Travel tips, vacation ideas and more to make your next vacation stellar.
Courtesy of Celebrity Cruises
Celebrity Cruises sets the scene for an excellent vacation for gay travelers, from its extravagant annual Pride parties to its daily LGBTQ programming throughout the year. The mainstream line has received numerous awards for its inclusivity, receiving accolades from the Cruizie Awards, TTG Travel Awards and Travel Weekly's Magellan Awards for being one of the best cruise lines for LGBTQ passengers.
LGBTQ cruisers can start their vacations off on a high note with a special welcome party on the first night of their voyage to meet other travelers on board. After night one, there are other social events for gay cruisers to party and hang out together. Additionally, Celebrity Cruises was the first cruise line to legally marry a couple at sea in 2018, and it continues to perform same-sex marriages on its ships.
Past cruisers enjoyed their voyages with Celebrity, noting that the line was welcoming, the food was delicious, and there were plenty of areas to hang out as a group with fellow LGBTQ passengers or other companions throughout the ship.
Although all itineraries are gay-friendly, consider booking a sailing during Pride Month in June for an extra special experience. Onboard entertainment during this month includes guest entertainers, a flag raising ceremony, Celebrity's signature Pride Party at Sea and more. The Italian Riviera & France cruise will depart from Barcelona on June 8, 2024, on the new Celebrity Ascent; this 10-night Mediterranean sailing stops at ports in France, Italy and Malta. Private travel companies like VACAYA also charter Celebrity ships for all-gay voyages throughout the year.

Specifically marketed toward lesbians and LGBTQ women, Olivia has hosted more than 350,000 travelers by land and sea over five decades. Cruisers can choose between river voyages or ocean sailings to destinations around the world. On the lesbian cruises, expect a mix of nostalgic decade-themed dance parties, folk singers, writing workshops, karaoke and other activities. Cruisers can also relax poolside, spend some time in the onboard spa or take it easy in one of the ships' lounges.
Travelers who are looking to connect with others who share similar backgrounds can do so in one of Olivia's specialized programs. There are group and solo traveler meetups, as well as programs like Sisters, which is for LGBTQ women of color; Gen-O, for cruisers 40 and younger; Women in Uniform gatherings, for veterans and those currently in the armed forces; and events for OWLs (which stands for "older, wiser lesbians"). Past cruisers on Olivia's voyages report feeling a true sense of community and belonging on board, resulting in a fun, carefree trip.
In June 2024, set sail with Olivia from Edinburgh, Scotland, to Dublin on Windstar Cruises' Star Legend. Or, visit the islands of Tahiti on the line's Star Breeze in September. Other cruise itineraries include Alaska, the Greek Isles, Mexico and the Panama Canal.

Courtesy of Royal Caribbean International
Royal Caribbean International provides a welcoming and inclusive experience for LGBTQ travelers. The popular cruise line frequently partners with Atlantis Events to offer all-gay voyages throughout the year, but even the standard sailings earn praise.
Highlights of the sailings are the ships' entertainment options (including the Tony Award-winning musical "Mamma Mia!") and attentive staff, according to past cruisers. Itineraries typically include LGBTQ meetups at the beginning of each cruise for gay travelers to meet like-minded passengers. Outside of the sailing experience, Royal Caribbean has also publicly committed to supporting the LGBTQ community throughout the year, and it was the first cruise line to earn the title "Gay Traveler Approved" from GayTravel in 2016.
In 2024, consider a Royal Caribbean voyage that sails to gay-friendly destinations. "Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, [is] full of gay bars, clubs and gay beaches," says Martinez. Hop aboard Navigator of the Seas in May for a seven-night sailing round-trip from Los Angeles that stops in Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta and Ensenada, Mexico. Navigator of the Seas also hosts a seven-night itinerary throughout the year that calls on Mazatlan, Mexico, as well.

Courtesy of The Cruise With La Demence
According to past cruisers, if you're looking for one of the best party scenes on the open seas, consider an all-gay cruise with La Demence. Powered by a popular gay nightclub in Brussels with the same name, La Demence – French for "the madness" – primarily caters to a European crowd. Most passengers are male, though women are also welcome.
On board, passengers should expect to dance the night away at massive deck parties that last into the wee hours of the morning. The line prides itself on its top-notch DJs, impressive light setup and electric party atmosphere. Previous cruisers had high praise for the itineraries – which exclusively visit gay-friendly locations – as well as the fruity cocktails, themed nights (costumes strongly encouraged) and glamorous entertainment. Enjoy unique events like drag bingo, high heel runs and more.
La Demence sails every summer to European destinations like Greece, Italy and Malta. The 2023 cruise was chartered on Royal Caribbean's Explorer of the Seas. Fares include all food and nonalcoholic beverages, plus access to all parties, shows and the onboard gym.

Source Journeys has been planning luxury vacations for LGBTQ travelers for more than 20 years. The Miami-based company, with the vision of founder and chief executive officer Craig Smith, offers small group land tours and full-charter cruises for like-minded travelers with a focus on giving back to the communities they visit. The company also supports LGBTQ organizations, such as the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force and the Human Rights Campaign.
Past guests of their tours say their fellow travelers were as fun and interesting as the destinations. They appreciated the excellent personalized planning for the trips by Smith and his life partner, Rafael Rodriguez.
The company's cruises in 2024 include a seven-night Galápagos sailing in late September on a Relais & Chateau luxury yacht: Ecoventura's new ship, Evolve. The intimate ship accommodates just 20 passengers. Source Journeys is also offering a seven-night river cruise through Burgundy and Provence, France, in June on Avalon Waterways' Avalon Poetry II, as well as a seven-night voyage from Venice along the Dalmatian Coast. This ocean cruise scheduled in August is chartered on Star Clippers' masted sailing ship, Royal Clipper.
Frequently Asked Questions
When it comes to gay cruising, gone are the days of discreet "Friends of Dorothy" meetups. The term – a euphemism that dates back to the 1950s – was once used to indicate gay social events on daily cruise line programs, without explicitly calling out members of the community on board. It's a far cry from today's LGBTQ cruising industry, which loudly and proudly celebrates passengers from all walks of life.
According to experts, LGBTQ cruising is a market that will only continue to grow. Travelers can take their pick between cruise operators tailored specifically to queer communities and major cruise lines that offer festive Pride celebrations and inclusive onboard entertainment. As travel on the high seas continues to grow in popularity for vacationers, gay and lesbian travelers should consider setting sail on a fun-filled cruise vacation for their next trip.
When planning a cruise, vacationers should first consider what their ideal sailing looks like.
Gay-friendly vs. all-gay sailings: Cruisers should think about whether they'd like to travel aboard a gay-friendly mainstream line – such as Celebrity Cruises or Virgin Voyages – or opt for an all-gay, full-ship charter with a third-party vacation company.
"Each and every LGBTQIAPK person has a different level of comfortability in their 'outness,' " says Patrick Gunn, co-founder and chief marketing officer of LGBTQ vacation company VACAYA. Of VACAYA's all-gay charters, he adds, "For one magical week, our community gets to be the majority and live life out loud in the blissful utopia VACAYA creates on a gay cruise. That single change from being an always-minority to a sudden majority can have a profoundly positive real-world effect on individuals."
- Travel style: Some cruise operators (think: Atlantis Events and La Demence) are known for their electrifying all-night parties, which may be perfect for gay groups of friends. Meanwhile, other companies like VACAYA and Olivia look to provide a more diverse selection of activities, ranging from tea dances (LGBTQ parties that, historically, included tea service) to philanthropic service activities to immersive onshore experiences.
- Ports of call: Some of the most LGBTQ- and gay-friendly destinations for cruises include: Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Sydney; Barcelona, Spain; Taipei (Keelung), Taiwan; Helsinki; Quebec City; Auckland, New Zealand; Mykonos, Greece; Reykjavik, Iceland; Amsterdam; Tel Aviv, Israel; Buenos Aires, Argentina; and San Francisco. Countries that gay travelers may want to avoid include the Maldives, Jamaica, Morocco, Malaysia and Haiti, as homosexuality is illegal in these destinations.
