George Strait Announces Six Stadium Concerts for 2023

George Strait concerts are going to be bigger than ever in 2023. The country music legend has just announced six stadium shows, set for May through Aug. 2023.

Chris Stapleton and Little Big Town will open for him during all six shows.

While Strait has been playing one-off stadium shows — including for 51,000 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis in November 2021 — this marks his first dedicated run of stadium shows. Right now, the six shows listed below are his only six shows listed for 2023.

Both Little Big Town and Stapleton opened the Minneapolis show, and in a press release, the Strait and Stapleton shared admiration for one another. When the 70-year-old announced his plans to retire from the road in 2012, he left open the possibility for something like this. At the time he made it clear that the touring life was not for him any longer, but he still very much liked performing.

The first stop is scheduled for May 6 in Glendale, Ariz. Strait will then play three shows in June, one in late July and another in early August. Tickets for all shows go on sale on Nov. 4 at 10AM local time.

George Strait's 2023 Stadium Tour Dates:

“When I walk through those curtains and see those smiling faces, my feet don’t touch the ground again ’til I walk back out and get on that bus that got me there. That’s from a song I wrote called ‘I’ll Always Remember You.’ It’s a true statement,” Strait shared exclusively with Billboard of the announcement. “When we talked about doing these six shows next year with Chris, it was a no brainer for me. George Strait just can’t shake the road. After retiring from regular touring in 2014, the Texas country music singer has played festival dates, one-off shows, and his successful Las Vegas residency Strait to Vegas . In 2023, he’ll add more to his itinerary when he joins Chris Stapleton for a string of stadium dates around the country. Little Big Town will open each show.

The dates are scattered throughout the summer, with at least one show in each month of the season, beginning May 6 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Three shows in June take Strait and Stapleton to Milwaukee, Seattle, and Denver, while the pair hit Nashville’s Nissan Stadium in July. The final date is currently scheduled for Tampa, Florida, in August.

GEORGE STRAIT AND CHRIS STAPLETON EXTEND RUN OF STADIUM SHOWS, NEW DATES ADDED FOR 2024

george strait tour 2023

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Setting venue attendance records across seven stadium shows this summer, country music icon George Strait and eight-time GRAMMY winner Chris Stapleton continue the excitement into 2024 with nine new dates. Also returning alongside the King of Country and Stapleton for the extended run of one-off stadium dates are special guests and GRAMMY Award-winning band Little Big Town . In addition to summer shows in Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Ames, Charlotte, East Rutherford, Salt Lake City, Detroit and Chicago, Strait will also supersize his longstanding Strait to Vegas show with a December date at Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium to mark the 37th installment of the engagement. Tickets to most shows go on sale next Friday, Sept. 22 at 10 a.m. local time via GeorgeStrait.com , with tickets to the Jacksonville show on sale Friday, Oct. 20 at 10 a.m. local time. American Express® Card Members can purchase tickets before the general public beginning Friday, Sept. 15 at 10 a.m. local time through Thursday, Sept. 21 at 10 p.m. local time. Of the few opportunities to see Strait perform live, Pollstar opines, “Strait remains the most worthy inheritor of Merle Haggard or Willie Nelson’s mantle of country icon through the meaningful fluidity with which he moves through country’s various sub-strains with the same ease and enjoyment that marked both men’s Country Music Hall of Fame careers.” “I’ve always said we have the best fans in the world, and to see so many of them show up for these shows just makes us want to keep bringing them more,” shares Strait. “I’ve also missed performing in Las Vegas during NFR, so I’m happy to see that show come together in 2024. See you soon!” George Strait w/ Chris Stapleton & special guests Little Big Town 2024 Stadium Shows:

About George Strait George Strait is the unambiguous King of Country Music, having sold more than 105 million albums and counting while earning more than 60 major entertainment industry awards as well as countless nominations and becoming the only act in history to have a Top 10 hit every year for over three decades. With 33 different Platinum or multi-Platinum albums, he’s earned the third-most certifications of any artist in any genre, following only The Beatles and Elvis Presley, and with a total of 60, Strait has more No. 1 songs than any other artist in history (including Elvis). The Texas troubadour released 2019’s best-selling Country album, Honky Tonk Time Machine , on MCA Nashville, produced by Strait and Chuck Ainlay, the album quickly became Strait’s record-extending 27th No. 1 Billboard Country album. Comprised of 12 original titles plus Strait’s version of the Johnny Paycheck classic “Old Violin,” Honky Tonk Time Machine marks an incredible 30th career studio album from the Country Music Hall of Fame member, who earned his 100th entry on the Billboard Country Airplay chart with his single “The Weight of the Badge” from the project. Since his record-breaking Cowboy Rides Away Tour in 2014, Strait has performed for limited engagements, most notably at Las Vegas’s T-Mobile Arena for his long running “Strait to Vegas” series. In 2022, he also made his 31st appearance at the iconic Houston Rodeo on the event’s final night and headlined two nights at Fort Worth’s Dickies Arena. 2023 has seen Strait set concert attendance records at multiple venues as he has teamed up with Chris Stapleton for a series of one-off stadium shows in just six markets, with Little Big Town also appearing on each date. About Chris Stapleton Kentucky-born Chris Stapleton is an eight-time GRAMMY, 14-time CMA and 10-time ACM Award winner and one of the country’s most respected and beloved musicians who will release his highly anticipated new album, Higher , on November 10 (Mercury Nashville). Produced by Dave Cobb, Morgane Stapleton and Chris Stapleton and recorded at Nashville’s historic RCA Studio A, the record consists of 14 tracks that showcase Stapleton’s supernatural voice and musical versatility with songs that defy easy categorization. Already receiving overwhelming notice, the album's lead single, “White Horse,” recently achieved the biggest add day of the last 12 months at country radio and marks the highest chart debut of Stapleton's career. Released to critical acclaim, Billboard praises, “‘White Horse’ finds Stapleton pairing an outlaw swagger with some heaven-scraping vocals, going for the gusto throughout the chorus to try and match the guitar snarl.”

The new music adds to another landmark year for Stapleton, who is nominated for three awards at this year’s 57th Annual CMA Awards: Entertainer of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year and Musical Event of the Year. He was also named Entertainer of the Year at the 58th ACM Awards—resulting in a prestigious ACM Triple Crown Award—and Male Vocalist of the Year at the 2022 CMA Awards, his sixth time earning the award, setting the record for most wins ever in the category. Additionally, in February, he performed the National Anthem at Super Bowl LVII and has collaborated in recent years with Adele, Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, Justin Timberlake, P!nk, Sheryl Crow, Santana and many more. About Little Big Town GRAMMY, ACM, CMA, AMA and Emmy Award-winning group, Little Big Town – consisting of members Karen Fairchild, Phillip Sweet, Kimberly Schlapman, and Jimi Westbrook – first entered the music scene over 20 years ago with hit songs “Boondocks,” “Bring It On Home,” “Good As Gone” and the GRAMMY-nominated “Little White Church.” The band’s breakthrough albums Tornado and Pain Killer produced multiple No. 1 singles, including “Pontoon,” “Tornado,” and “Day Drinking,” as well as the history-making, best-selling country single of the year (2015) “Girl Crush.” 2017’s The Breaker debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Country Charts to critical acclaim. The album features their GRAMMY-winning, multi-week No. 1 single, “Better Man,” as well as the 2019 GRAMMY-nominated, “When Someone Stops Loving You.” The band’s self-produced ninth studio album, Nightfall , was released January 2020 and hit the top of the Billboard Country Charts. The record included critically acclaimed and GRAMMY-nominated “The Daughters,” “Over Drinking” and “Wine, Beer, Whiskey” – the latter of which has reached almost 400 million global streams. In September 2022 they released their tenth studio album, Mr. Sun, which debuted as the Top Country Album released by a Group in 2022. Little Big Town has earned more than 45 award show nominations and has taken home nearly 20 awards, including multiple GRAMMY, AMA, People’s Choice, CMA and ACM Awards, in addition to an Emmy award.

Everything That Happened at George Strait’s 2024 Tour Kick Off [Video + Setlist]

George Strait returned to the stage with new music and a little heartbreak on Saturday (May 4).

The legend’s show in Indianapolis, Ind., was his first since three men important to his live show died this spring.

・Strait has just 10 stadium shows on his 2024 tour calendar . Chris Stapleton and Little Big Town will open.

・The set list (see below) for this first show resembles the one he used to end 2023.

・Strait’s last studio album was Honky Tonk Time Machine , released in 2019.

George Strait, New Music In 2024:

The Texan didn’t just announce new music for 2024. He played three new songs from his upcoming Cowboys and Dreamers album (release date TBA).

One of those songs is a bit more exciting than the others, if only because it appears to include Stapleton. As Taste of Country suspected last fall, the two are coming together for a song.

After the younger icon joined Strait to sing “Pancho & Lefty,” he remained on stage to sing “Honky Tonk Hall of Fame.”

Subscribe to Taste of Country on Youtube

Stapleton also sang a song he wrote for Strait’s 2013 Love Is Everything album, “You Don’t Know What You’re Missing.” The other two new songs Strait sang were called “Three Drinks Behind” and “MIA” or “Going MIA ,” a tip-of-the-hat to the play on words Keith Whitley used for “Miami, My Amy.”

What Happened to George Strait?

While the singer appeared in top form, his heart was hurting as three of his longtime companions have died in the last six weeks. Manager Erv Woolsey , road manager Tom Foote and fiddle player Gene Elders all passed.

Before his encore, Strait recognized their relationships, saying, “The last couple of months have been a tough time … music makes it all better.”

A separate tribute was to US Army Private Isaac Boshi, who was the recipient of the 113th home from the singer’s Homes 4 Wounded Heroes program.

State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona is the first of only seven stadiums the man they call the King of Country plans to play in 2023 with special guest Chris Stapleton, who joined him on three songs, including a cover of Townes Van Zandt's "Pancho and Lefty."

And George Strait rose to the occasion with a set that took us from his breakthrough hit, "Unwound," from 1981's "Strait Country" through selections from "Honky Tonk Time Machine" his latest album. Along the way, he dusted off a decent number of the songs he's taken to the top of Billboard's country singles chart — he had plenty to choose from, as he's topped the chart more times than any artist in the history of the genre — from "The Chair" to "All My Ex's Live in Texas" and "Check Yes or No."

Here's a look at every song he played at his tour launch.

George Strait is known as ‘The King Of Country‘ for a reason.

Not only can the Texas icon boast sixty No. 1 singles in his armoury, but Strait also knows how to put on a spectacular, unforgettable live show. The charming troubadour infuses his sets with a captivating combination of sing-a-long anthems and affectingly personal moments, such as when he delivers his tear-jerking send-off to the crowd, ‘I'll Always Remember You’ and the introspective ‘I Saw God Today’.

Of course, Strait leaves plenty of room for his most recognisable anthems , from the swaggering, tongue-in-cheek ‘All My Ex's Live in Texas’ and ‘Ocean Front Property’, to irresistible ballads such as ‘Nobody in His Right Mind Would've Left Her’ and ‘I Can Still Make Cheyenne’.

Despite possessing one of the most coveted back catalogues in country music history, George Strait is not afraid to try his hand at a few crowd-pleasing covers during his live shows. In 2023, The King has been performing tracks such as Willie and Merle's ‘Pancho & Lefty’, Johnny's ‘Folsom Prison Blues’ and Waylon's ‘Waymore's Blues’.

Other fan-favourite offerings that have been making their way into George Strait's 2023 setlist include ‘The Chair’, ‘Check Yes Or No’, ‘Give It Away’ and the unabashedly jaunty yet heartbroken hit that launched his career back in 1981, ‘Unwound’.

In addition, the country titan continues to serenade fans with an array of newer material, such as ‘Codigo’ (named after Strait's brand of Tequila), ‘The Weight of the Badge’ and ‘Every Little Honky Tonk Bar’.

With a series of blockbuster stadium shows lined up throughout 2023, featuring appearances from Chris Stapleton and Little Big Town, fans will have ample opportunity to see The King remind everyone why he still sits on the country music throne.

The Indianapolis date was one of just 10 shows Strait will perform in 2024, and marked a return to the stage following a string of devastating losses to his industry family including his manager of nearly 50 years, Eugene Ervine “Erv” Woolsey, Ace in the Hole member Gene Elders, and tour manager Tom Foote.

“It’s so good to be back,” he said from the stage, “man, it’s been six months, and that’s too long.”

Paying tribute to his lost friends, Strait remarked, “The last couple of months have been a tough time… music makes it all better. Thank you for coming out – we’ve had a great time tonight,” he said, as he closed out a six-song encore in their honor.

Taylor Swift Announces 2023 ‘Eras Tour’ of U.S. Stadiums

u.s. american stadium tour 2023

Taylor Swift announced Tuesday morning her long-rumored return to the road, with an outing dubbed the “ Eras Tour ” scheduled to hit U.S. stadiums beginning in March 2023 and running into August, with international dates set to be revealed later.

The support acts are very much all about the sisterhood, with a host of acts Swift has championed in the past. Opening acts for the U.S. leg of the tour are Paramore , Haim , Phoebe Bridgers , Beabadoobee, Girl in Red, Muna, Gayle, Gracie Abrams and Owenn.

The tour starts March 18, 2023 in what is apparently a sweet spot for Swift, Glendale, Ariz., the same place her last outing, the pre-pandemic “Reputation” tour, began in 2018.

Popular on Variety

As for which album we can consider the tour to be supporting, since she has released four original studios albums since her last tour? All of them. Swift described the tour as “a journey through the musical eras of my career (past and present!),” with a graphic showing her look from different phases of her career.

See the full itinerary, with color-coded graphics indicating which of the nine opening acts got the gigs in which cities:

The public on-sale happens at 10 a.m. local time on Nov. 18. As with all major tours nowadays, there will be an earlier rollout of tickets for credit card members, in this case holders of Capital One cards, beginning Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. through Nov. 17 at 10 p.m. local times.

As with her previous tour, there will be a Ticketmaster Verified Fan program “to ensure tickets get into the hands of fans.” Aspiring ticket buyers can register for the setup now through Nov. 9 here .

Unusually in the modern era of variably priced “platinum tickets” where fans get little information about set ticket prices, Swift has announced the cost of her tickets in advance. They run from $49 up to $449, with VIP packages that start at $199 and go up to $899.

Swift’s announcement promised that international dates are to follow.

There was an attention to detail in the tour announcement even in the graphics signifying the opening acts at different spots in the tour routing, with Bridgers, for instance, being represented by a tiny ghost, in honor of the skeleton costume she’s used on her own headlining tours.

Not accidental, probably, is how that same graphic breaks the tour itinerary down into two columns of 13 dates each. There will be 27 shows in 20 cities. The venues getting a two-night stand are in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Philadelphia and Chicago, as well as Arlington, Texas; Foxborough, Mass.; and East Rutherford, N.J.

The reception for “Midnights” upon its October release left no doubt just how strong the appetite for Swift tickets will be. It had the biggest week since Adele’s “25” album, per Luminate this week, with 1,578,000 album-equivalent units. Additionally, it was announced Monday that for the first time in history, all 10 top slots of the Billboard Hot 100 were filled by a single artist’s songs, with “Anti-Hero” leading the way at No. 1. Fans very much wanted the full album, anyway — of the nearly 1.6 million album units registered for “Midnights,” 1,140,000 were copies purchased in the form of the full album. It became Swift’s fifth album, out of her 10 original studio releases overall, to sell a million-plus copies in the first week out. The figure also represented the best first-week sales for an album by any performer since “Reputation” came out of the gate with 1,216,000.

The “Eras Tour” is being produced in-house by Taylor Swift Touring and promoted by the Messina Touring Group.

The tour’s opening acts expressed their enthusiasm in their own ways, such as the tweet from Muna that declared the group “gay for Tay” and pictured the trio in miniature, resting atop Swift’s lighter on the “Midnights” album cover.
