Travel + Leisure / David Hattan
Shopping for your travel-loving friends and family can be tricky — after all, you’ll want to ensure you’re picking up something practical, but you also don’t want to gift them something they already have. It’s also worth considering that frequent travelers, especially digital nomads, tend to live a more minimalist life. This means practical gear will reign supreme over more frivolous items.
You’ll also want to take into account the kind of travel your favorite globetrotters or influencers are into. City explorers or luxury-leaning travelers, for example, probably won’t want the same gear as someone who spends their PTO hiking and trekking through the wilderness.
The following options were hand-picked by our team to suit every type of traveler and vacationer on your list. We’ve extensively researched (or personally tested) all of the following gifts to ensure your purchase will make a thoughtful and genuinely practical addition to your loved one’s travels. Here are the best gifts travelers will love — for all budgets and needs.
Solo Re:Define Backpack
You can’t go wrong with a new travel backpack, and the Solo Re:Define Backpack earns our top pick as the absolute best laptop backpack in the game. It’s lightweight and stylish while still roomy enough to hold the essentials whether your gift recipient plans to use it as a carry-on bag or as a city bag while exploring a new town. It also has a built-in USB port and headphone jack for ease of use.
Cabeau Evolution S3 Travel Pillow
The gift of a good night’s sleep on a red eye isn’t exactly something you can wrap in a bow and place underneath the tree — but the Cabeau TNE S3 Travel Pillow makes it possible. This is the best travel pillow in our book; it’s designed to attach to any headrest which helps keep the user’s head from dropping or moving around when sleeping. The air-like cushion is also super comfortable and cozy without being too hot.
Samsonite Freeform Carry-on Spinner
If your giftee is on the go a lot, chances are they could use new carry-on luggage . The Samsonite Freeform Carry-on Spinner is our top pick when it comes to long-lasting and practical carry-on luggage. It’s aesthetically pleasing but also incredibly durable and is able to withstand packed travel schedules thanks to the polycarbonate design.
Away Travel The Compression Socks
Compression socks might not seem like the most exciting holiday gift at first glance — but trust us when we say that once your loved ones start flying with the compression socks from Away, they won’t want to go back. These are the best compression socks we’ve found not just because they’re stylish but also because they work well (see: help prevent swelling and discomfort) without being too tight.
Paravel Passport Case
If your favorite travelers don’t already have a high-quality passport cover, you might want to consider the Paravel Cabana Passport Case. The elegant leather case is our highest rated passport case and can even be personalized with a hand-painted monogram or custom graphic to add another layer of elegance. We also like that this option has an abundance of pockets and card slots to make organization easier.
Stanley Quencher H2.0 FlowState Tumbler
The Stanley Quencher has become everyone’s favorite emotional support bottle over the past few months — and it’s easy to see why. Boka Fresh on the Go
The Boka Fresh on the Go set was made for travelers who avoid checking a bag at all costs. It includes everything they’ll need to maintain good oral hygiene while on the go, but the toothpaste is TSA-approved and the mouthwash — this is the best part — comes in the form of chewable tablets so it won’t even count toward their liquid quota.
T-core Power Bank
The T-core Power Bank makes a great stocking stuffer — look how tiny it is! — for travelers who are constantly in search of a power outlet to juice up their devices. The compact 10,000mAh portable power bank is small enough to fit in your pocket and can fully charge a new iPhone 2.9 times with one charge.
Jamaica Vibes
Jamaica Vibes is the latest in the Assouline coffee table book family — and possibly one of the most fun options to date. The stunning visual-first book will allow travelers to reminisce about any time spent in Jamaica (or dream about future trips) while the cover and spine of the book will add a dose of elegant and trendy style to coffee tables and bookshelves.
Contiki Tour
You can’t go wrong with the gift of travel itself, and if you’re looking for a big-ticket experience gift for a younger traveler in your life, look no further than a Contiki tour. The pre-packaged trips will take them all over the world with like-minded young people and range from exploring the Garden Route in South Africa to road-tripping through the Balkans.
Epicka Universal Travel Adapter
Sure, a travel adapter might not immediately come off as the most exciting gift. But any traveler will tell you just how valuable a reliable one really is. The Epicka Universal Travel Adapter is the best travel adapter in our book; it works in more than 150 countries and it’s super compact and easy to pack thanks to the modular design. Plus, you can always pair it with a flashier item like a travel-themed phone case .
L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream
Luxury hand cream is a great gift for anyone, but particularly for the frequent flyer. The L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream is very lightly scented (which is great for the plane), but it’s also incredibly moisturizing and rich in texture. It’ll serve as the hydration and comfort MVP during long, dry flights.
Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 16GB
Being a traveler and a voracious reader can be tricky — you likely don’t want to go bookless on the go, but who wants to lug several books from city to city just to make sure they’ve got reading material? Certainly not us, and that’s why the Kindle Paperwhite has become a non-negotiable. The ultra-lightweight device can store thousands of books in one spot and you can even download new content while traveling — so avid readers will never run out of material (or worry about going over the carry-on weight limit with books).
Mise 店 Udon Gift Set
Traveling to Japan changes you; once you’ve visited, you’ll want to return again and again. That’s why the Mise 店 Shoshi Watanabe Udon Gift Set is a major win for anyone who has traveled to (and fallen in love) with the country. The bundle includes everything your gift recipient will need to cook delicious udon at home, all of which has been sourced directly from Japan.
Lavazza Espresso Italiano
If they’re constantly posting throwbacks to their summer vacation in Italy, give them the gift of an Italian morning at home. The Lavazza Espresso Italiano tastes just like those shots of espresso you can guzzle at every corner cafe in Rome. Bonus points if you pick up a set of espresso cups to really set the mood.

It doesn’t matter if your gift recipient is a city or a wilderness traveler: everyone can use a reliable pair of earbuds to take on the road. The Jabra Elite 10 True Wireless Earbuds offer the same high-quality sound and design as much more expensive options, but the under-the-radar headphones come with a much more digestible price tag.
LARQ Bottle PureVis
The Larq Self-cleaning Water Bottle is a true game changer for all kinds of travelers. The smart bottle uses UV technology to not just disinfect itself but also to purify the water you’re drinking. This means the jetsetter you’re shopping for will be able to comfortably drink from most water sources without worrying about getting sick.
Tommy Bahama Backpack Beach Chair
The Tommy Bahama Backpack Beach Chair is simply the best beach chair around — and it makes a great gift for road-trippers and camping enthusiasts alike. It’s super easy to transport thanks to the folding backpack design and is surprisingly comfortable due to the adjustable head pillow and elongated seat. We also like that the frame is rust-proof, meaning it’s perfect for using at the beach or in the rain.

Packing cubes are a game changer for efficient and organized packing, and the Gonex Compression Packing Cubes are our top pick for best packing cubes . The ultra-soft, lightweight ripstop nylon design simplifies packing and compresses everything from T-shirts and sweaters to socks and underwear, taking up way less space in a suitcase and making it easy to find specific garments without having to unpack completely.

Travelers who take organization — and safety — seriously will particularly appreciate the Raytix RFID Money Belt. Our number one pick for the best money belt , this practical pouch is super comfortable to wear and is also large enough to hold things like earbuds, transit tickets, and other small travel accessories they may want to keep close by. It’s also available in a huge variety of fun colorways to suit every style
Intelligent Change Inc. The Five Minute Journal
Sometimes, it can be hard to live in the moment and absorb all the magic that is travel — but a gratitude journal can help ensure your globetrotter stays centered on the go. The Five Minute Journal takes, as advertised, just five minutes of a traveler’s time, but jotting down their thoughts for those few minutes will help them remember and appreciate the most exciting parts of their day while traveling or at home.
The Alchemist
This famous fable by Paulo Coelho is an excellent gift for travelers (and aspiring travelers) of all ages. The Alchemist is one of those books that we’ve read time and time again when searching for inspiration. It’s a quick but impactful read that’ll inspire anyone to continue to work toward their goals and find their own Personal Legend.

The best car phone holder mount in our book is the Andobil Car Phone Holder Mount, and it’ll make a great gift for roadtrippers and car commuters. It’s super easy to install and, once set up, is incredibly stable and easy to use while on the go. There’s also space to plug in a charger so drivers won’t have to mess around with their phone just to get some juice.
Puffer Hug 418 Scarf
Think of the Puffer Hug 418 Scarf as a stylish and equally practical alternative to the fishing vest. Hear us out: this cozy accessory serves as a regular scarf but also has tons of pockets for things like a smartphone or passport. It’s great for wearing to the airport when you need to have documents at the ready but is equally sensible for wearing to explore a new city.
Slip Silk Skinny Scrunchies
The Slip Pure Silk 4-pack Skinny Scrunchies is a fail-safe gift for anyone with long hair. The silk design is gentle on the hair and is designed to not pull or cause breakage, even with regular use. We also really like the elegant patterns and colors of the scrunchies, which can easily double as cute arm candy among a stack of bracelets.
Vinarmour Travel Wine Carrier
Wine-loving travelers will flip for the Vinarmour Travel Wine Carrier. This stunning carrier is designed to transport a bottle of wine without any risk of breakage. It features sufficient padding to keep the bottle safe while in transit, but it’s also made from leak-proof material — so even if the bottle was already damaged and cracks while in cargo, it won’t spill on the rest of your luggage.
Smithsonian White Mineral Globe Paperweight
Smithsonian
The Smithsonian White Mineral Globe Paperweight makes for a stunning addition to a coffee table or desk. The hand-polished globe is crafted from a stunning combination of two kinds of green jade, lilac lepidolite, red stone, marble, and abalone, and it’s designed to pay tribute to the National Gem and Mineral Collection — one of the largest collections of its kind.
The Harmonist Travel Coffret
The Harmonist
The Harmonist Travel Coffret is a game-changer when it comes to feeling fresh and relaxed in transit. The set of three heavily-concentrated perfumes were designed to foster a sense of calmness and relaxation thanks to the various notes, including patchouli, pomelo, Bulgarian rose, and vanilla. It also comes with a striking travel case to keep the vials safe in transit.
Spirit Daughter Malachite Palm Stone
Spirit Daughter
If you’ve got a nervous traveler on your list (or someone who could use a little extra protection), consider the gift of a Malachite Palm Stone. Malachite is believed to ward off danger and fight off illness which makes it a great healing crystal for any traveler to keep in their carry-on or toiletry kit while traversing the globe.
Twelve South AirFly Pro
The Twelve South AirFly Pro is such an easy way to upgrade the economy experience. This handy little device allows travelers to use their own Bluetooth headphones or earbuds with the inflight entertainment system rather than having to use the sub-par freebies provided by the airline. The AirFly is super easy to use as well — all you have to do is plug it into the headphone jack on the plane and pair it with your headphones.
Tumi Leather Jewelry Case
The Tumi Leather Jewelry Case is a game changer for anyone who typically travels with their jewelry loose in their carry-on or cosmetic bag. The beautiful leather accessory is striking in its own right, but the interior makes it incredibly easy to keep all jewelry and accessories properly stowed and organized on the go. The suede interior is also super soft and won’t scratch or scuff delicate pieces.
Four Seasons Velvet Slippers
Four Seasons
There’s something inherently luxurious about slipping into a pair of hotel slippers upon check in — and the Four Seasons Velvet Slippers amplify that feeling and bring it home. These stunning slippers are made in Italy from sleek velvet and cotton with the Four Seasons logo embroidered on the top. The elastic back and rubber sole make them appropriate for both indoor and outdoor use.
Apple AirTag
Don’t let your loved one get stuck with lost luggage sans AirTag. This tiny gadget offers major peace of mind for anyone who has to check a bag (and it’s worth throwing one in a carry-on, too — just in case a gate check situation arises). The AirTag is no bigger than a quarter and pairs with iPhones to easily track and monitor the location of gear at all times — and it has actually helped people get their suitcases back faster.
Nurse Jamie Super Cryo Mini Massaging Orb
The Nurse Jamie Super Cryo Mini Massaging Orb is a frequent flyer’s best friend. The device works to increase localized circulation and reduce surface-level inflammation in the skin. It stays cool for up to six hours at a time which should be more than enough to get jetsetters through a red eye to Europe. The stainless steel device can also be used hot for a soothing under-eye treatment.
Birdie Personal Safety Alarm
Here’s one for the solo female travelers on your list. The She's Birdie Personal Safety Alarm is designed to fit incognito in her handbag or pocket — but if she finds herself in any kind of trouble, it’s easy to grab and sound the alarm to draw attention and deter an attack. All she has to do is pull off the top tab to activate the 130-decibel siren and flashing strobe light.
Dagne Dover Tech Organizer
Dagne Dover
Nobody thinks they need a tech organizer while traveling, but when you take into account all the cables and adapters required to make international travel smooth, having a specific spot to keep everything untangled is major. The Dagne Dover Arlo Tech Organizer is small enough to pop into a carry-on but has plenty of interior space to store everything a traveler needs.
Lindsay Albanese Toptote Leather Hat Holder
Traveling with a cute hat seems like a great idea, but in practice it can be a bit of a pain. The Lindsay Albanese Toptote Leather Hat Holder allows travelers to bring along a wide-brim hat without having to wear it the entire commute or risking it getting crushed in a suitcase. The clip attaches to the brim of a hat and the built-in carabiner lets you pop it onto a handbag or carry-on for a hands-free solution.
Diptyque Travel Cleansing & Moisturizing Set
This cleansing and moisturizing set will be a welcome addition to any routine whether at home or on the go. We also like that this option comes with a cute carrying case that makes it easy to store the items in a handbag or carry-on.
Tangle Teezer Compact Styler Detangling Hairbrush
This detangling hairbrush is a must-have addition to any cosmetic bag thanks to its compact design and convenient top cover. The brush combats knots and tangles without damaging the hair, but it’s truly the streamlined design that makes it so great for travel; your giftee won’t have to worry about squishing the bristles or getting anything stuck in the brush. Plus, the shiny holographic-inspired finish is very pretty to look at.
Baimei Jade Roller & Gua Sha Facial Tools
You’ve probably already heard about the wonders of a jade roller, but the gua sha is just as efficient. This set of two gives travelers everything they’ll need to depuff after long flights or nights out. Note that this set is also available in amethyst and rose quartz, should your favorite traveler prefer a different hue.

The Pokoloko Harem Towel is handcrafted using 100 percent Turkish cotton by artisans in Turkey — and it’s the perfect beach bag essential. It’s very lightweight and rolls down much smaller than the average towel. However, it’s also incredibly absorbent and quick-drying, so travelers can pop it back into their beach bag at the end of the day without worrying about lugging home a soggy towel.
Ugg Franca Hooded Travel Cardigan
The Ugg Franca Hooded Travel Cardigan was designed with travelers in mind. It’s ultra-cozy and comfortable, but it’s also incredibly easy to fold up and pack away when not in use. We love that it’s fitted like a structured cardigan so you can get away with wearing it from the plane and right into the city if you’re so inclined.
Fellow Carter Everywhere Mug
If your giftee is still traveling the world using disposable coffee cups, it’s time they’ve upgraded. The Fellow Carter Everywhere Travel Mug is a super chic reusable coffee cup that is particularly great for travel, as it has a leak-proof seal that prevents the cup from spilling everywhere when tossed into a carry-on. It also keeps beverages hot for up to 12 hours (and cold for up to 24), so travelers won’t have to deal with lukewarm coffee or water on even the longest travel days.

“Enter the Calzuro classic, which I discovered after a woman at my local dog park arrived sporting a pair in black. With a 1.5-inch heel, the slim plastic clogs are lightweight and durable, and you can purchase them with or without ventilation holes. Designed in Italy for medical professionals, the clogs can be bleached or washed in a dishwasher or washing machine, and getting rid of sand and dirt is as simple as putting them under a hose. Thrillingly, the clogs also come in a number of colors: hot pink, sunshine yellow, orange. I opted for a sky-blue pair and have already put miles on them out to lunch, at the beach, and at the dog park.”

48. JetKids by Stokke
Buy now: $229, stokke.com
The JetKids by Stokke ride-on suitcase allows children to move faster through the airport. Both of AFAR senior news editor Michelle Baran’s kids loved riding these so much on a recent trip to Europe that she ended up checking her stroller to her final destination. Once aboard the plane, the top props up to convert an economy airplane seat into a lie-flat bed with an included mat. The interior space has enough room for an iPad and headphones, some paper, coloring books, pens, a small stuffie, and a blanket. You can opt for the additional attachable backpack for some added room, which Baran’s kids used for sweatshirts and small toys.
This portable car seat is worth the splurge, according to the parents among AFAR staff.

OK, this one is more of a gift for parents who are done schlepping heavy car seats through airports. The eight-pound WAYB Pico Portable Car Seat folds into a compact 11.6 x 14.5 x 18.9-inch unit—basically the size of a medium camping backpack—that’s easy enough to lift on its own, and better still when stowed in a backpack carrier you can buy for an additional $95.
“As someone who has traveled alone with the kids and had to mount a full-sized car seat on my back, this is life-altering,” says Baran.

The Best Small Businesses to Shop for Travel Gifts
By Meredith Carey
All products featured on Condé Nast Traveler are independently selected by our editors. However, when you buy something through our retail links, we may earn an affiliate commission.
While Small Business Saturday has passed, there are plenty of boutiques across the U.S. filled with travel-inspired gifts that you can shop online. From a Senegalese restaurant's shop in Brooklyn and a hotel gift shop in Nashville to a California-themed store in San Francisco, we searched high and low for some of the best spots to buy travel gifts , whether you're looking for a stocking stuffer or planning to splurge. You'll find our favorite small businesses below—just be cognizant of this year's shipping timelines. (The cutoff for USPS ground delivery is December 15 if you expect it by Christmas.) Order early and be ready to pop a printout of your gift in a stocking or wrapped box, if couriers slow delivery.
Marche Rue Dix , New York City
A Senegalese cafe and restaurant (and nail bar) that serves up traditional dishes like thiebou jen (stewed fish over rice) and fataya alongside French fare, Marche Rue Dix's online shop is filled with great gifts. There are room sprays ( Aunty , an oud and rosewood scented spray, is an in-store favorite), hand-crafted soaps , colorful tees and sweatshirts , and natural haircare products . Our go-to buys lie in the pantry section , which is filled with teas, spices, sauces, and more.
Keep Shop , Nashville
Attached to the Noelle in downtown Nashville, the IRL Keep Shop is a highly curated lobby gift store. Online, it's no different, with stock from local Nashville artists like textile designers New Hat and leatherworker Emil Erwin . Head to Keep Shop for candles , well-crafted jewelry , and soothing bits and bobs, like Urb Apothecary's Muscle Joint Salve, which is packed with sunflower and castor oil, ginger, and eucalyptus essential oils to relieve sore muscles. We're also partial to the deep burgundy leather Dopp kit from Utah-based Rustico that just arrived on the online shop.
Woonwinkel Home , Portland, Oregon
Woonwinkel Home has a little bit of everything. While the colorful shop is a delight to shop in person, its website is top notch and easy to use. Shop by product type, or shop the site's Black-owned, woman-owned, and USA-made categories. There's a huge selection of gifts for kids and pets, as well as more niche items like sustainably sourced Peruvian hot chocolate , chic metal toolboxes , and sulfate- and paraben-free solid bar shampoo, which helps reduce single-use plastic packaging. Like we said, Woonwinkel has it all.
Goodee World
While not a shop you can visit in person, Goodee World is an online boutique curated by twin entrepreneurs Byron and Dexter Peart, and filled with artisan-made goods that also have a positive social or environmental impact. You'll find bike baskets handwoven in Ghana , sleek teak cutting boards made of Forest Stewardship Council–certified teak, and colorful hammocks made by women in Colombia’s Bolívar region. Check out Goodee's under-$100 gift guide for more ideas.
Wing on Wo & Co. , New York City
The oldest family-run business in New York City's Chinatown , Wing on Wo & Co. has been open since the 1890s, selling all manner of porcelain goods. Now on its fifth-generation owner, the shop has been modernized just enough, selling beautifully crafted, traditional dinnerware and teaware alongside adorable cat chopstick rests and Tang Lady platters , crafted by a young ceramicist in Jingdezhen in eastern China. Look to the Po's Picks section of the site, where Nancy Seid, the current owner's grandmother, selects her shop favorites.
Genara , Houston
Owned by Alicia Gray and her husband, Kenton, Genara is stocked with incredible home goods, scents, and desk accessories. Head to their site (or IRL location in Houston's Greater Heights neighborhood) to stock up on Nopalera soaps and moisturizing bars, olive wood serving utensils crafted in Kenya, and Japanese notebooks, perfect to use as travel journals . The Genara team has put together a whole slew of gift guides to make holiday shopping easier, including a kumquat, lavender, and rose shrub from San Diego–based Cool Hand Co. for your hip in-laws, and hand-made ceramic candlestick s for mom.
Rare Device , San Francisco
Buying gifts for someone in California, or who loves visiting Cali? Rare Device, a shop in San Francisco right by the iconic Painted Ladies , is jam-packed with Cali-specific gifts, like the Love From California gift set , filled with a P.F. Candle Co. scent inspired by Big Sur and a locally made wooden ornament in the shape of the state. But you'll find more than just gifts for the state-obsessed here; there are colorful crew socks , travel mugs, natural body scrubs , travel-friendly baby Dopp kits , and more to explore.
A guide to the very best shopping in Moscow
Sep 17, 2019 • 5 min read
While shopping in GUM department store be sure to check out its famous glass roof © Popova Valeriya / Shutterstock
Shopping in Moscow can be quite a daunting experience – you can walk for miles without finding anything but mass-market brands and overpriced boutiques. But, if you do it right, it can also be quite fun. Here are our top tips on how to get the most out of your shopping trip in Moscow.
Shopping malls
There are many shopping malls all around Moscow, but there three that double as bona fide tourist attractions: GUM, TsUM and Detsky Mir, all within walking distance from each other. GUM is one of the oldest department stores in the country. It’s famous for the glass roof designed by one of Russia’s most celebrated architects, Vladimir Shukhov. Today it serves as a high-class shopping mall. There are plenty of luxury shops, a supermarket that sells lots of signature Russian goods and several places to eat. Head to the more expensive Bosco Cafe with a Kremlin view or, for a budget option, try the Soviet-style cafeteria Stolovaya No 57 . GUM also occasionally hosts contemporary art exhibitions in one of its three main aisles.
The Red Square and beyond: a guide to Moscow’s neighbourhoods
TsUM is another shopping mall from the pre-revolutionary times. It’s the most luxurious store in the city, famous for its paper bags that many Muscovites carry around or post pictures of on Instagram to let everyone know they shop there. Full of haute couture boutiques, TsUM also has a rooftop restaurant Buro , frequented by Russian celebrities. Tsentralny Detsky Mir children's store is perfect if you are looking for a gift for a kid or want to check out its awesome viewing platform with good views over central Moscow. At just R50 per ticket it’s a steal.
Food stalls and markets
There are two food markets that are worth checking out in Moscow. Danilovsky Market became the trailblazer of Moscow’s foodie revolution when it got an uplift in 2017. As well as many trendy food stalls, the market also hosts lectures, film viewing and even theatre productions, and it recently opened an antiques section. It’s an architectural landmark, a masterpiece of late Soviet modernism that looks like a UFO. Food at Usachevsky Market tends to be a bit more pricey and upmarket. Both markets also sell plenty of fresh produce, local cheeses and cured meats.
Antiques and flea markets
Shopping can also be a way to get away from the major landmarks and explore some sights off the beaten path. Moscow’s #1 flea market is Izmailovsky , located in and around the pseudo-historical complex 'Izmailovsky Kremlin' with its colourful walls and domes. Open daily, it’s best to come here on the weekend to catch better deals. Admittedly tacky, Kremlin has a handful of weird museums like the Vodka History Museum or Baba Yaga Museum (Baba Yaga is a Russian fairy tale character). Part of the market had been gentrified into creative cluster Vernissage , with hipster coffee shops, various workshops and Svalka , an enormous two-floor secondhand shop with everything from used books to vintage clothing.
For high-class antiques, rare books and icons head to Antikvarnaya Lavka (Antique Store) just off Bolshaya Nikitskaya street (5 Kalashny Pereulok). Here you can snag a real masterpiece – a painting or a sculpture – but the prices are quite steep.
Four great day trips from Moscow
If you are looking for a more authentic place with less hustle, one option is the antiques market on the premises of vodka distillery Crystal (4 ul Samokatnaya), which you can reach by taking tram 20 to Samokatnaya ul from the exit of metro Chkalovskaya. The market is located in the basement of one of the red-brick factory buildings. There are plenty of antiques, books and various Soviet-time memorabilia, such as Stalin and Lenin busts. While at Crystal, be sure to check out great works of street art – they are all around the factory premises.
For die-hard antique collectors there’s also a place right outside of Moscow – Novopodrezkovo market (also know as Levsha market). Take a suburban train from Leningradsky station to Novopodrezkovo (approximately half an hour), cross the tracks to the other side and there you’ll find it – a treasure trove of used books, vinyl records, clothing, paintings and antique furniture.
Where to shop for Russian designs
Gosha Rubchinskiy might be the only Russian clothing designer of world renown, especially after his collaboration with Kanye West, but there are many more up-and-coming fashion stars worth checking out. One of the places to do it is KM20 , the place Moscow fashionistas, with streetwear brands from all over the world and a lot of very rare items. There's also one of the best vegetarian cafes in Moscow on second floor.
GUM shopping mall has a two-storey store devoted to Russian designers – Sektsiya (Section). Section sells products made by 50 Russian brands, from accessories to Heart of Moscow souvenir pins. Plus there’s a bar overlooking the Red Square.
If you are not into high fashion, but still interested in getting a cool outfit with Cyrillic script, check out the creative cluster centred around two abandoned factories: Flakon and Khlebozavod . One of the biggest stores is Zaporozhets Heritage at Flakon , which sells clothing and accessories styled after various Soviet pop culture icons. The northern part, Khlebozavod, hosts several shops like Yunost and Khlebny that take a more punk-rock approach to streetwear. After shopping, have a pint at a great local craft beer bar Svoboda or a coffee at Floo .
Sputnik 1985 is a Russian clothing brand specialising in hoodies and hats with quotes in Cyrillic and retro prints. The store is located in a courtyard on Pokrovka street (19 Ulitsa Pokrovka).

The 22 Best Places to Shop for Gifts, No Matter What City You're In
These gifts stores easily cover everyone on your list, whatever the holiday or occasion.
We've been independently researching and testing products for over 120 years. If you buy through our links, we may earn a commission. Learn more about our review process.
Beyond these options, though, this list covers the best places to shop for unique gifts in top U.S. metro areas. It’s worth consulting if you a) want to support local businesses; b) want to find a gift that’s unique and/or very specific; c) take pleasure in the sight of well-curated, beautifully merchandised displays; or d) have someone really hard to shop for on your list.
Remember that the best gifts are often hiding in the gift shop of your favorite museum, or the aisles of local craft fairs and holiday markets. Until then, start here — each store has a website, too, so most of the time, you can get your hands on these cool products no matter where you live. Just leave plenty of time for shipping.
New York City: MoMA Design Store
A perennial favorite for design-forward everything, the recently renovated and reimagined museum has filled its companion store with lots of exciting new options for the holiday season and beyond. In addition to classic MoMa fare like the sky umbrella , Pantone accessories , and littala glassware , find cotton tote bags in electric primary colors with artist quotes, colorbocked Chilewich placemats , Alvar Aalto cookie cutters — and there’s even a rainbow magnetic train thingy for Junior.
New York City: Catbird
Somewhere between its 2004 inception and the present day, Catbird became the destination for cool-girl fine jewelry and engagement rings. But insiders know that Catbird also carries enchanting finds across tons of other gifting categories including Astier du Villate incense , John Derian trinket trays , the chicest stationery items, plus beauty novelties like Odeme nail polish , Wild Honey Apothecary face masks , and “Bodega Bouquet”-scented artisanal lip balm .
New York City: Flying Tiger
This Danish chain has multiple locations in Manhattan, plus one in downtown Brooklyn, and is kind of like Ikea's Kid and Marketplace sections on steroids (with even cheaper prices). It’s stocking stuffer central (think: erasers, sparkly pocket-sized notebooks, and tiny wooden toys). Also find an array of under-the-tree ideas for kitchen goddesses (gadgets, ice-cube molds, quirky-chic canisters) and everyone else (folksy Scandinavian ornaments, picture frames, makeup bags, and more). Bonus: You'll also find party and entertaining supplies galore, from taper candles in every color to paper napkins printed with vibrant seasonal motifs.
VISIT THE WEBSITE
Los Angeles: Burro
In addition to the flagship on Abbott Kinney, Burro also has locations in Malibu, Westlake Village, and Santa Monica, all offering ideas for everyone from new moms to new boyfriends. Itoya notebooks, and Auntie Oti throws have one-size-fits-all appeal, and there are lots of options for kiddos (think: Tea Collection apparel, Maileg stuffed animals, heart-shaped crayons). Meanwhile, a distinctively SoCal slant is often the common denominator (see: avocado soap). Wonderfully witty and beautifully illustrated greeting cards round out the selection.
SHOP THE WEBSITE
Los Angeles: Poketo
With four L.A.-area locations including Poketo Project Space at ROW DTLA, a concept space with rotating pop-ups by different brands, artists, designers, and makers, Poketo has options aplenty for arty types, yes, but the goods are also great for anyone who loves bold colors and graphic décor elements with a modern, playful edge. Printed tea towels, bamboo coasters, brass mobiles, lucite bookends, and something called a “cheese puff puzzle” ensure your gift will be memorable upon receipt — and probably forever.
Los Angeles: Yolk
A quick survey of this Silver Lake boutique (and its sister location in DTLA) reveals plentiful gift ideas for recipients of all sizes, from Oeuf baby clothes to Marimekko melamine trays, Baggu bags, plus jewelry from Ink & Alloy — a very affordable line from the founder of Paddywax candles, which are also sold in the boutique (we prefer the gender-neutral Boy Smells line).
Chicago: Foursided
So, technically, it’s a framing shop, but locals also come here for unexpected gifts like personalized flashcards, framed puzzle pieces in the silhouette of your home state, boxed note cards, plus wedding party thank-yous, Voluspa candles, and seasonal novelties, including party supplies. With three Chicago-area locations, it’s also a great spot to pick up Chicago-themed maps and prints, children’s books, ornaments and enamel pins.
Chicago: Neighborly
A tasteful hub for all things handmade and fair trade, including Wit & Whistle paper goods, Palate Polish nail polishes, and Soap Distillery’s mango lassi-scented soap, this is also a source for Baggu bags, kinetic mobiles sculptures, hanging air plants, and letterpress prints. Midcentury modern seems to be the preferred aesthetic including a so-named coconut soy wax candle and merino wool pillows by Danish textile artist, Tina Ratzer. Also cool: small-batch beard and moustache wax for the hubs.
Chicago: Embellish
Handmade artisan jewelry gifts for every budget are the draw, but alongside creations by local designers Allison Mooney, Stellar 26, and Rapt in Maille, you’ll find hand-poured soy wax candles, Latico Leathers accessories, Hobo handbags, and cashmere hats. Also: Hair scrunchies are back and you can get them here.
Texas: Neighborhood Goods
Located in Plano, TX about 20 miles’ drive from Dallas, this super modern department store concept stocks a constantly-rotating selection of thoughtfully made and beautifully packaged items like Brightland olive oil, Good Science Beauty skincare, L’or de Seraphine candles, Skagen watches, and Rothy’s ballet flats. Unique special events make this store a must-visit even if you’re not on the hunt for gifts and just want to sip cool cocktails, meet cool makers, or arrange some flowers. Bonus: Onsite eatery Prim and Proper offers food, drinks, and coffee throughout the day.
Texas: Stanley Korshak
Pop in for Spanx and the season’s prettiest designer’s party dresses, leave with a year’s worth of gifts for everyone from Grandpa to your super-picky 16-year-old daughter (and her long-suffering favorite teacher). Founded in 1986, this independent specialty department store is a Dallas institution and it’s pretty posh, but you’ll also find locally-made Kate Weiser chocolates and other gourmet goodies for under $50 alongside fancy Smythson small leather goods, Assouline coffee table books, Niven Morgan candles, and Molton Brown toiletries.
Texas: Blue Elephant
Based in the heart of Austin, this boutique has a cult following because of its focus on all things locally made, appealingly bohemian, frequently irreverent, and genuinely, authentically cool. Play it safe with bath fizzies, a tin of Smith’s Rosebud salve, or Mario Bedescu skincare or go with something much, much sassier . An array of Austin- and Texas-themed gifts are also on offer, as are a number of solid gift ideas for guys (e.g., dad mugs, beard maintenance kits, and more).
Portland, OR: Craft Wonderland
A brick-and-mortar outpost of the city’s most beloved twice-yearly arts and crafts market brings Portlanders and tourists alike a perennial supply of enticing locally-made gifts and handicrafts. Shoppable in two locations—downtown Portland and the Alberta Arts Districts — the store is indeed a wonderland of sorts, offering everything from Lalita Art & Design butterfly-printed totes to handmade soy candles from Nature’s Lindle. PDX fare is of course abundant, ensuring an ample selection of far-from-lame souvenirs if you’re bringing home gifts — for others and yourself — as a memento of your trip.
Portland, OR: Pendleton
This Portland-based heritage brand has been specializing in super high-quality woolens — and a certain outdoorsy chic — since 1863. With several brick-and-mortar locations throughout the city. Pendleton’s iconic blankets and throws, which come in signature plaids and stripes, plus a series of Native American-inspired prints, are a sure thing for any anyone who could use some warmth and style in their home (or at a soccer game, a tailgating party, etc.). Failing that, other giftables include notebooks, socks, and coffee mugs; all display the most photogenic Pendleton patterns and motifs, some of which hail from a rad collection inspired by the National Parks.
Seattle: Venue
Located in the city’s Ballard neighborhood, this boutique is about locally made and artisan crafted everything. Onesies printed with the Seattle skyline, farmer’s market totes, trucker hats, soy candles, vegan leather accessories, ceramic mugs, planters and kokeshi dolls, and possibly the prettiest illustrated greeting cards in town are just a few of the reasons to make it a must-shop destination for holiday gifts, Mother’s Day and more.
Seattle: Capers
A West Seattle go-to since the 1980s, it’s technically a home store, albeit with a wide selection of accessories and doodads to beautify your space and up your hostess game. Such items — Le Jacquard Français aprons and tea towels, alpaca throws, charcuterie boards, locally-made ceramics, Tatine scented candles, plus artisan-made jewelry twinkling with chunky gemstones — also happen to make great gifts for everyone from the minimalist apartment dweller to the committed hoarder of objects and accents, the lovelier the better.
Seattle: Fancy
Seattleites know this Belltown beauty best for its handmade, and custom fine jewelry selection, but locals also recommend it for more affordable silver and gemstone earrings, Ferm Living housewares, Hello Lucky stationery, recycled leather pouches, Claire Cowie figurines, tulip-shaped porcelain votives, and other unexpected, artist-created gift ideas for the design-savvy crowd. Bonus: dogs welcome, and seemingly, encouraged.
San Francisco: General Store
Everything in this extremely chic Outer Sunset emporium has a serene, gracious air, making it the perfect place to find gifts for just about everyone, from your bohemian sister (Mermaid Hair Oil, fringey Salihah Moore earrings made of Czech glass and Japanese beads, bromeliad tote bags) to your hard-to-shop-for best friend who values aesthetics above practicality (a 2020 lunar calendar art print, Kati Von Lehman ceramics, matte metal barrettes from in Paris, and Postalco key holders made of moss agate or lapis lazuli).
San Francisco: Hudson Grace
Find beautifully curated and presented gifts, mainly for the home, in the way of Claus Porto candles, a rainbow of hand-dyed, soft linen napkins, cheeseboards, Italian ceramic Christmas gnome statuary, elegant teak salad servers, fancy peppermills, and coffee table books. Bonus: the store’s signature packaging in crisp white and tangerine ensures your gift is well-received before it’s even opened.
San Francisco: Rare Device
The name of this beloved Nopa boutique has a certain techie ring to it but that’s not its thing (the name comes from a line in Samuel Taylor Colerdige’s Kubla Khan poem). What is: approachably stylish and unusual gifts and curios for friends, family, even yourself. Its modern and whimsical wares hail from all over the world, including kooky Studio Arhoj ceramic art from Denmark, spinning wooden tops from Japan, and a salsa bowl by Mujeres del Barro Rojo in Oaxaca, Mexico. The store is also home to a gallery space that regularly hosts events and art shows.

Here are a few of our favorite places for the perfect Chicago souvenir.
Chicago museum stores
Chicago’s museums are home to some of the world’s greatest treasures — and some pretty sweet souvenirs. Here’s a guide to gift hunting at some of the city’s one-of-a-kind museum stores.
Museum of Contemporary Art
The Museum of Contemporary Art is known for their bold, thought-provoking exhibits — and that vibe extends to the gift shop. The MCA Store is as carefully curated as the museum itself, a sleek space filled with design books, charming kids toys, avant-garde clothing, home decor, plus gifts and objects related to their major exhibits. If you can’t make it to the museum, you can shop the collection online .
Art Institute of Chicago
As one of the largest art museums in the country, it’s no surprise that the Art Institute of Chicago has not one, but two museum stores — one at its main entrance on Michigan Avenue, and the other in the Modern Wing on East Monroe Street. They’re both worth a visit. 26 Unique Greek Souvenirs To Buy When Visiting Greece
The best things to buy in Greece include food, drink, decorations, instruments, games, clothing items and lots more! Here’s everything you need to know about the best souvenirs from Greece, written by a local.
The best Greek souvenirs
Most people fall in love with Greece! Our unique ancient sites, pristine beaches, delicious Greek food and relaxed pace of life are some of the reasons why people visit Greece again and again.
A question I often get from visitors is what to buy in Greece. People look for unique gifts from Greece to take back home for their friends, or as souvenirs from their trip.
In this article, I have included 26 of the things I’d bring back from Greece if I was a tourist myself. Includes fantastic food gifts, memorable objects and a couple of tacky souvenirs, just for fun. Enjoy!
1. Feta cheese
Feta is the most best known cheese of Greece. Its soft, crumbly texture and its unique taste make it very popular for Greeks and visitors alike.
If your country’s regulations allow it, I totally suggest bringing back a packet of real Greek feta. Yes, it’s possible that you can get some type of feta in your country, but it just won’t be the same!
Feta is available in every single supermarket in Greece. You can also get sealed packets at the airport, on your way home.
2. Greek honey
Honey is considered to be one of the best superfoods. It’s been used for thousands of years not only as a food, but also in traditional medicine, due to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
Greece produces several types of honey. A few examples are thyme honey, Greek pine / fir oney, wild oak honey, chestnut honey, arbutus honey and heather honey.
In Athens, you can find good quality honey at delis, street markets, and the Varvakios food market . Moreover, you will easily be able to find local honey in every single Greek island .
Just make sure you are allowed to take it back home. As an example, you can’t bring honey to Australia.
3. Olives and olive oil
Olives and olive oil have been a huge part of Greek culture and Greek tradition since the ancient years.
You may have heard the story about goddess Athena who offered an olive tree to the city of Athens, and became the city’s patron goddess. If not, here’s how Athens took its name .
Olive oil is widely used in Greek cooking, and is liberally added in salads and dips.
Extra virgin olive oil is a very important ingredient in the famous Mediterranean diet. It is rich in antioxidants, and is linked to a lower incidence of cardiovascular disease. Have a look at this recent piece of medical research .
Olive oil is produced from olives, which grow on olive trees. The olives are picked from the trees and then crushed, resulting in the precious oil.
Olives can also be eaten, however pay attention – you can’t eat them straight from the tree, as they are very bitter! They are first cured in brine for a few weeks, and they are then ready to eat. The best known variation are the black Kalamata olives.
You can easily find Greek olive oil and all sorts of green and black olives in food markets and supermarkets all around Greece. Also, check out for olive paste, a tasty spread made out of olives.
4. Raisins, sultanas and currants
Another popular Greek superfood are raisins, sultanas and currants. Sold in Greece under one name, “ stafides “, those tiny dried grapes are rich in antioxidants, fibre, iron and potassium.
It’s easy to find stafides everywhere, including open-air markets, supermarkets, the central market and small shops.
5. Greek coffee
Coffee is a very popular beverage in Greece, and a huge part of the Greek lifestyle.
While cold and iced coffee are very common, especially in summer, there is another type that you need to taste: Greek coffee. It is very typical in Greece, Turkey and a few other nearby countries.
The ground coffee beans are boiled with water in a special pot, called briki . The drink is then poured into a small cup. You need to be careful not to drink the thick sediment at the bottom of the cup 🙂
Bags of Greek coffee along with demitasse cup sets are among the best souvenirs from Greece.
Side note: If you are going to both Greece and Turkey, I would suggest that you get your coffee and cups in Turkey. Note that, while the coffee is called “Greek coffee” in Greece, it’s obviously called “Turkish coffee” in Turkey.
Here’s some more information on coffee in Greece and the Greek coffee culture .
6. Greek ouzo and raki
Ask anyone who has been to Greece, and they are likely to remember one drink: Ouzo . A bottle of the iconic anise flavoured aperitif is one of the best gifts from Greece.
Another popular alcoholic beverage in Greece is raki , or tsipouro , which is somewhat similar to Italian grappa. It has a high alcohol content, and can also be simmered with honey and cinammon to produce a warm drink, rakomelo .
You can easily get Ouzo and raki everywhere, including airports. I recommend an Ouzo brand called Plomari, produced in a family owned distillery.
Here is some more information on Greek drinks .
7. Mastiha products
Another Greek superfood is mastiha . People have been using it for medicinal purposes since the times of Ancient Greece. It’s a natural way to treat digestive issues and other conditions of the gastrointestinal system.
Mastiha is a natural resinous substance with a distinctive flavour, somehow similar to vanilla. It is collected from the mastiha shrubs, which grow exclusively in Chios island. You can see what they look like in this video .
The most common products containing this precious ingredient are mastiha chewing gums and mastiha liqueur. You can also find mastiha -flavoured coffee, chocolate, halva, and many more treats.
Among all Greek souvenirs, this is one of the most unique ones. You can find mastiha products in dedicated shops, including a signature store at the Athens International Airport.
8. Greek herbs and mountain tea
Hundreds of different herbs grow in Greece. Even on the driest of islands, like the Cyclades , you can see several types of shrubs and bushes.
Thyme, oregano and rosemary are among the most common herbs in Greece. Most of them are collected, dried, and are then ready to be used in the preparation of Greek food .
Apart from the herbs, you can find several types of herbal teas, like linden, sage, chamomile or verbena. These are available either in the form of loose leaves, or in sachets.
The most popular Greek tea is what we call “ tsai tou vounou “, which translates to “mountain tea”. The actual plant is called Sideritis (ironwort). You will easily find bags including the stems, leaves and flowers of the plant.
For a special treat, look out for krokos , or saffron, from the area of Kozani.
My favourite place to get herbs and herbal teas is the Varvakios food market. I warmly recommend a store called 1,001 Gefsis , on Athinas street.
9. Greek sweets and sweet treats
Any of your friends with a sweet tooth will definitely appreciate a box of Greek sweets.
Some of the best known desserts you can take nack home include baklava and halva . Baklava is made out of filo pastry, nuts and a thick syrup, while the main ingredients in halva are tahini and sugar.
Another popular snack is pasteli , made out of sesame seeds and honey or sugar. There is a crunchy and a soft version, and they are often seasoned with cinnamon, cloves or even mastiha .
Spoon sweets, or glyko tou koutaliou , are also fairly popular. They are produced after boiling pieces of fruit in a thick, sugary syrup and sold in jars.
Apart from these, you can buy cakes, cookies and many other sweet treats at most bakeries in Greece. Here is a long list of the best Greek desserts !
If you are spending Christmas in Greece , look out for kourambiedes and melomakarona , some very special cookies that you won’t find at other times of the year.
Tip: If you have a sweet tooth, it’s worth spending a few days in Thessaloniki , where you’ll find some excellent patisseries and some of the best pastries in Greece !
10. Handmade leather sandals
Leather sandals are among the best Greek souvenirs. They are flat, light sandals made out of leather and a rubber sole. They come in various designs and colors, though they are more common in light brown.
Watch any movie inspired by ancient Greek mythology , and you will notice that ancient Greeks wore similar sandals. (In reality, more types of shoes existed back then, just like today’s closed shoes or boots).
You can easily find Greek leather sandals in souvenir shops in Plaka area and Monastiraki markets in Athens. A famous, family owned business with good quality handmade leather sandals is Melissinos .
You can also buy leather sandals in tourist shops on most Greek islands, like Mykonos or Santorini .
Or you can opt for those traditional Greek pom-pom shoes. They are kind of similar to what the Guards are wearing during the Changing of the Guards .
Note: Contrary to popular belief, these shoes are not the best shoes to wear in Greece, as their soles are rather thin and your feet will hurt on our cobblestone streets. Check out my article with tips on what to pack for Greece , including footwear.
11. Greek backgammon board
Backgammon might be the oldest board game in the world. It was originally invented in Mesopotamia, in the 2nd or 3d millennium BC.
The game and its variations were popular all over the ancient world, including Egypt, Persia, Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire.
Today, backgammon, or tavli as we call it, remains popular not only in Greece, but also in many nearby countries. It’s a rather addictive game, and requires skill combined with some luck.
Backgammon boards are easily available around Monastiraki market in Athens. The standard size is rather bulky, but could even fit in your hand luggage.
Depending on quality, a backgammon board price ranges widely. You can spend anywhere from about 10-15 euro, to several hundreds of euro for backgammon boards made out of olive wood or leather.
12. Worry beads
Worry beads, or komboloi , is made out of an odd number of beads around a piece of string. It is a small Greek souvenir, which makes it easy to bring back home.
Even 100, or 50 years ago, it was rather common for older men to play with a komboloi . Today, you will rarely see people holding on to them – they are used mainly as decoration in Greek houses.
Worry beads can be made out of bakelite, resin, amber, ebony, bone, coral, olive wood, and many more natural materials.
You can find cheap komboloi at most souvenir stores. If you are looking for something more valuable, check out Kombologadiko store in Athens and Mykonos .
13. Greek jewelry
A great souvenir from Greece is jewelry, and you will find a fantastic selection. From inexpensive wristbands, to silver rings and pendants to top quality gold jewellery, Greece has got you covered.
If you are interested in buying affordable, original designs in Athens, wander around Plaka, Thisseio and Monastiraki flea market. You will find dozens of stalls where local artists display their creations.
Two local jewelry stores I personally love are Hyperion and AlexisP , both in Plaka. Their designs are unique and totally affordable, and they are also really nice people!
For more luxurious jewelry, check out some of the long-established brands, like Zolotas, Lalaounis and Vildiridi. I also warmly recommend Skaras Jewels , for their lovely designs and incredible professionalism!
14. A charm to keep away the evil eye in Greek culture
The evil eye is a superstitious belief in curse. It is supposed to be caused by someone looking at the affected person, and can be given inadvertently.
The concept of the evil eye has been around for thousands of years. You may have seen drawings of eyes on Ancient Greek pottery, a symbol of apotropaic magic.
Today, the evil eye is common around countries of the Mediterranean and the Middle East, as well as in Africa and Asia, and it is similar to the Egyptian Eye of Horus . Even the Greek Orthodox church accepts the existence of this type of curse.
To protect someone from the evil spirits and bad luck, it is customary to give them a special talisman. We call it “ matohantro “, which comes from the words we use in Greece for eye ( mati) and bead ( hantra ).
These lucky charms resemble the shape of an eye, and they are usually blue. These days, there are many objects with this pattern, including tea towels, cushions, bags and cups.
You can find them in most souvenir stores all around Greece. For something slightly more subtle, you can also buy jewelry with eye-shaped beads.
Here is some exciting information about the evil eye and its origins .
15. Handmade ceramics
Pottery has always been a big thing in Greece. Ancient Greek ceramics are exhibited in many of the best museums in Athens and all around the world.
Anywhere you go in Greece, you will find ceramics. Apart from mass-produced, colorful bowls and cups, you will also find beautiful hand painted ceramics created by local artists.
Some of the islands, like Sifnos, have a long-standing pottery tradition. Alternatively, you can get ceramics in the flea markets in Athens and in some museum gift shops. They are great – though slightly tricky to travel with – souvenirs of Greece.
16. Deck of cards with scenes from Greek mythology
A really fun and unique Greek souvenir is a deck of cards with scenes influenced by our mythology.
They are typically decorated with some of the 12 Olympian gods , prominent heroes like Heracles or Prometheus, and other popular figures that you’d normally see on pottery items.
Now before you buy those for your young nephews or grandma’s friends, check them carefully. The cards often depict erotic scenes, which are probably not what you want to gift to everyone.
You will find these decks of cards everywhere around Monastiraki and Plaka.
17. A phallically shaped bottle-opener
If the decks of cards are not funny enough for your close friends, there’s another naughty Greek souvenir you can get for them. And this is none other than a wooden bottle opener with a phallic shape.
Whether these are popular souvenirs or not, I am not sure. But you can easily find them at the flea markets and tourist shops. Now, whether you want to keep them in your hand luggage when you are flying home, is another matter 🙂
Fun fact: They come in various colours and sizes, so you can choose the one that you like best.
18. A Greek bouzouki or other musical instrument
If you have musician friends, a great idea for a gift is a Greek musical instrument. The most famous is the bouzouki , a string instrument that looks like a lute or a mandolin.
The Greek bouzouki hails from Asia Minor. It became popular in Greece during the rise of the forbidden rebetika music, in the first half of the 20th century.
Counting the neck, a normal bouzouki measures around one metre long. If it’s hard to carry, you can look out for other traditional instruments. A tzouras or a baglamas look like a small-scale bouzouki and will be easier to bring back home.
There are a few stores around Plaka and Monastiraki specializing in making instruments. Alternatively, check out musical instrument stores like Nakas , Stollas and Adagio .
Or you can talk to these guys , who are a lot more than just a bouzouki shop.
19. CDs with Greek music
Some people would argue that CDs are almost useless in the days of YouTube and Spotify. However, you can’t always find the songs you are looking for, and a CD is always a great gift for every music lover out there.
You will easily find CDs of some of our most prominent musicians and composers in all music stores in Athens.
Just a few examples you could research before your trip: Hatzidakis, Theodorakis, Savvopoulos, Agelakas, Delivorias, Dalaras, Mitsias, Tournas, Tsitsanis, Farantouri, Galani, Protopsalti, Arvanitaki, Vissi, Alexiou.
Let me know if you have any other favourites in the comments!
20. Natural soaps and cosmetics
Remember how olive oil, honey and mastiha have been used for medicinal purposes since forever? It shouldn’t come as a surprise that they are also used in natural soaps and cosmetics.
If you are familiar with argan oil, you could say that olive oil is its Greek version. When in Greece, you will find plenty of olive oil beauty products, such as hand creams, facial moisturizers and hair conditioners.
Other widely used ingredients include yoghurt, chestnut, propolis, pine and saffron.
Two brands you can look out for are Korres and Apivita. You will find many more brands in most tourist stores, cosmetics stores and most pharmacies.
21. Football or basketball T-shirts
Football and basketball T-shirts are always a great gift for children and teenagers (and not only). If his popularity in Greece is anything to go by, a shirt with Giannis Antetokounmpo’s name is all the rage right now.
For football T-shirts, check out the official stores of Olympiakos , Panathinaikos and AEK . You can also find sports shirts around Monastiraki and Plaka.
22. Religious icons
Religious icons will definitely appeal to any Greek Orthodox friends and family. Iconography is still a pretty popular profession over here.
What I find unique is that this form of art goes back to the Byzantine years. The figures, which are carved on a wooden frame, are austere and colorful. Bright colours like red, green silver and gold are widely used.
You can find great quality icons in stores in central Athens. Religious destinations such as the Meteora monasteries or the fantastic Greek island of Tinos also offer a wide variety of icons.
23. Greek carpets and rugs
Noone can deny that synthetic materials have taken over our world. Today, it’s a lot easier to buy a carpet made out of polyester, than look for a woolen or silk one.
If, however, you are looking for traditional carpets and rugs, you will find many different types in Greece. The traditional, heavy woolen flokati rugs, or the thick, woolen kilimia will add character to your living room or bedroom.
The Loom , on Adrianou street Plaka, is a good place to start your search for Greek and international rugs and other homeware.
24. A replica of an ancient Greek statue
A replica of an ancient Greek statue is a gift that will appeal to many people. You can find statuettes made out of different materials, including clay, resin, alabaster or bronze.
Popular figures include Aphrodite of Milos , Nike of Samothrace, goddess Athina and god Apollo. I also find the Cycladic figurines very pretty, and these colourful versions I saw in Naxos were quite cool.
While you can find replicas in most souvenir shops, I also suggest you check out the museum gift shops.
25. Ancient Greek helmet and full body armour
If the statue replicas don’t quite cut it, no worries. Hardcore Ancient Greece fans can find a lot more than that.
As an example, you could consider bringing back an ancient Greek helmet. While they probably wouldn’t be effective in case of battle, they would suit a living room with an Ancient Greece theme.
And if the helmet still isn’t enough, why not go for the ultimate souvenir from Greece, a full body armour!
26. An ancient Greek Playmobil!
I would have never thought that an ancient Greek Playmobil exists, until I saw it somewhere in Plaka. This is probably one of the best souvenirs in Greece for kids.
Playmobil figures of Ancient Greeks are part of the “Playmobil History” series. You will find gods and heroes like Zeus, Hercules, Achilles, Patroclus, Ulysses, Hera, Athena, Artemis and many more.
There’s even the Palace on Mt Olympus ! And I’m sure that if you look hard enough you’ll find Playmobil figurines participating in the Ancient Olympic Games !
FAQs about Greece souvenirs
Here are a few questions people often ask:
What is Greece famous for souvenirs?
Some of the most famous Greek souvenirs are ouzo, leather sandals, worry beads, and anything related to olive trees.
What should I buy while in Greece?
It depends on what you like. If you can bring food items back, I recommend buying some Greek honey and feta cheese. You could also consider getting some leather sandals, Greek statue replicas, or traditional ceramics.
What are the most popular souvenirs?
I have often seen visitors buy olives, jewelry, backgammon sets, leather sandals and the Greek charm to protect you from bad luck.
What type of jewelry is Greece known for?
Silver jewelry is very popular in Greece, and you can easily find very intricate designs. These days, you can also buy Greek jewelry made out of many different materials – metals, gemstones, wood, glass, cardboard, and different types of resins.
What Greece souvenirs to buy for kids?
My favourite souvenir for kids would be either Playmobil figurines, or books based on mythology. You can also find games with a Greek theme – just avoid the funky decks of cards.

I enjoyed reading what you wrote. I will be coming to Athen’s in June for a 7 day cruise I wanted to come 3 days ahead to sitesee but with the Covid testing I couldn’t find a place to take the test
Hi! You can take a rapid test at most pharmacies in Greece – here’s an article that might help. By June, hopefully these restrictions will be lifted – you can have a look at this article a few days before you arrive, as I update it every week. Enjoy your holiday!
Thank you for writing this article. It helped me 🙂
I’m very glad to hear this!! Enjoy your time!
Great article !! Lots of stuff I never would of thought about buying.
Thank you!! 🙂
Love reading your articles. I collect Nativities. Are there some unique ones for Greece? We are coming to visit in February.
Hi – could you please email me at [email protected] with some photos of nativities you already have so I can get an idea? Thanks!
Please note a warning for US travelers buying food or any agricultural products to take back to the US: The Customs and Border Protection agents work in coordination with the US Department of Agriculture to STOP all agricultural imports into the US! No herbs, honey, cheeses, and other fresh products are allowed into the country. The agents use K-9, trained dogs, to locate such products in passengers luggage.
For sure, every traveller needs to know their country’s regulations regarding food and other goods. I’ve highlighted this in the article.
This is simply not true. All of the products you listed ARE most certainly allowed into the United States. We bring honey, feta cheese, fresh mountain tea, and it is all absolutely permitted per the US Customs and Border Patrol website. Of course it is important for every traveler to do their research, as certain rules apply (I.e. cheeses with meat in them; such as cheeses with pieces of bacon, are not allowed).
Thanks for your comment Holly – this will be useful to other people living in the US! Do these regulations change from time to time?
Do you have a complete site map anywhere online? I keep discovering more and more wonderful pages and topics just at random (while in the middle of reading another lovely post) and it makes me wonder what else I am missing! I’d love to see a table of contents! Thanks for compiling all this great info – your site is a gold mine!
Hi Molly – I’m afraid it’s not user-friendly but here it is! https://realgreekexperiences.com/post-sitemap.xml
Are your streets and beaches safe to walk alone. How is crime when visiting Athens and surrounding areas?
I do find them safe overall, perhaps with the exception of a few neighbourhoods in Athens. Be careful in crowded areas as well as the metro, pickpockets do operate and they target tourists.

What to Buy in Italy: 35+ Best Italy Souvenirs
There are near-limitless fun things to dream about and budget for when gearing up for a trip to Italy, and planning what to buy in Italy is definitely one of them!
Souvenirs from Italy are a fantastic way to bring a piece of your trip home with you, and you can find a souvenir for every taste when shopping in Italy.
No matter how many times we visit Italy (which is a lot), we always seem to find some new treasure to bring home, whether it’s a ceramic jar from the Amalfi Coast , a magnet from Taormina , an antique map of Italy from an outdoor market in Lucca , or even simply a bag of taralli (one of our favorite snacks from Puglia )… just to name a few examples.
Not sure what to buy on your upcoming Italy trip?
Here are the best souvenirs from Italy to look for!
Table of Contents
Best Foodie Souvenirs from Italy
Decor + collectibles to buy in italy, best italy souvenirs to wear, miscellaneous things to buy in italy, inexpensive (but fun) souvenirs from italy, tips for shopping in italy, read more about visiting italy.

Of all the best Italy souvenirs out there, we have to admit we’re partial to those with a foodie bent.
Not only is Italy’s gastronomy practically synonymous with its culture, but centering your shopping in Italy around food will allow your trip to continue in spirit once you return home, and eliminate the risk of waste or clutter accumulating over time.
If you’re traveling outside the EU, you’ll need to avoid a few of these treasures, like cheese–though if you ask us, souvenirs still count if you eat them before leaving the country!
The most classic of all Italian souvenirs is definitely wine !
Virtually all vineyards in Italy will ship bottles home for you, so if you’re a wine fan, consider picking up several of your favorites and enjoying them slowly over time.
Alternatively, for a budget souvenir option, hit the grocery store for a fun experience and a chance to experience just how delicious “cheap” wine in Italy can get.
Go ahead–try the 5 Euro bottle! It might surprise you!
Like wine, olive oil is a classic Italian souvenir that is easy to ship home.
And while it’s a popular souvenir year-round, if you’re lucky enough to visit during the olive harvest in the fall, you should absolutely, without a doubt, be sure to pick up some fresh olive oil!
For the best quality, avoid anything in a glass jar and instead look for olive oil stored in metal cans.
Spices are one of the cheapest and easiest to transport of these foodie souvenirs from Italy, and they can transform any dish.
Truffle Oil
Drizzle a few drops of truffle oil over your pasta at home, and you’ll almost swear you’re back in Italy when you taste it.
We love having it on hand for dressing up a standard night at home.
Truffle oil also makes a fantastic gift from Italy for foodies at home!
Italian Cookbook
Want to recreate some of your favorite Italian dishes once you return home?
Pick up a cookbook when shopping in Italy!
Cured Meats
From prosciutto to parma ham to plenty of sausages, cured meats travel well and make great souvenirs from Italy.
If you’re heading back to the US, you’ll need to eat this treat before heading home… but no Italy trip is complete without at least one meal that consists of cured meat, cheese, fruit, and wine picked up at local markets.
Dried or jarred–either option is a great way to bring a taste of Italy home!
Arguably Italy’s best-known liqueur, limoncello comes primarily from the Amalfi Coast and the surrounding area in Campania, including Sorrento .
If you’re not headed south, though, don’t worry: y ou’ll find limoncello served and sold all over the country.
If you pick some up as a souvenir, you can make an incredible limoncello spritz at home and bring a taste of the Amalfi Coast back from Italy with you.
This grape-based hard liquor is easy to find in Italy–you’ll undoubtedly be served a shot on the house at a restaurant at some point during your trip !
It d efinitely has quite the kick , and if you find yourself partial to it, grappa makes a wonderful Italian souvenir.
While dried pasta isn’t quite the same as the fresh stuff, it’s still a delicious option that makes for a wonderful souvenir (and easy to transport) souvenir from Italy!
You might also be surprised to learn that some famous Italian dishes are traditionally made with dried pasta–it’s not all about fresh pasta, even when exploring the boot.
Carbonara, for example, is made with dried pasta in Italy (personally, rigatoni is my favorite shape for this dish, though you’ll see many interpretations).
Traditional Balsamic Vinegar
Forget the cheap stuff–traditional balsamic vinegar from Modena takes 12-25 years to make, and the cost matches the commitment !
Expect to spend in the range of 100 Euro for a traditionally made bottle–but for the right customer (like Jeremy!) the cost is absolutely worth it.
Traditional balsamic vinegar is one of the absolute best souvenirs from Italy, as it is a very specific product that is difficult (and expensive) to source abroad, it is easy to transport, and it lasts a long time.
We’ve been very slowly working through our latest bottle for almost a year now, and it’s not even half gone.
From basic olive spreads to more, shall we say, adventurous spreads like cibreo, jarred spreads are easy to carry home.
And, s meared across a piece of crostini, they’re bound to help you feel like you’re back in Italy.
Hard Cookies & Sweets
Hard cookies and sweets (we’re partial to cantucci cookies from Tuscany, personally) are an inexpensive and fun way to bring a taste of la dolce vita home with you.
Chocolate
Artisanal chocolates may be more readily associated with Belgium and France, but Italy also makes some incredible ones!
L ook for these especially in the region of Piedmont (arguably one of the most underrated regions in Italy, especially for foodies) and in the Val di Noto town of Modica in Sicily .
Hard cheeses, like aged parmigiano-reggiano, transport more easily than soft cheeses, but with a little ingenuity, you can get most cheeses home.
Want to bring true Italian coffee home with you?
While coffee bars are an enormous part of Italian coffee culture, moka pots–the pots that Italians make their coffee at home in–are also a huge part of the culture.
They’re a great way to bring Italian coffee home with you (assuming you’re not willing to splurge on a very pricey espresso machine, that is).
Home decor is one of our personal favorite things to buy in Italy, and even during our four years of long-term travel, we found ourselves acquiring a couple of pieces along the way.
Now that we have a home base again, seeing our carefully chosen pieces puts a smile on our faces every day!
… which is a very good thing, because we never seem to return to Italy without acquiring another treasure or two.
Ceramics + Pottery
Ceramics are popular across Italy, though you’ll see a lot of beautiful, hand-painted choices along the Amalfi Coast and in Tuscany in particular.
This is one of my personal weaknesses when shopping in Italy: I just can’t get enough of the ceramics!
One of our personal favorite souvenirs from Italy is our hand-painted jar from the Amalfi Coast.
From dishes to tiles, Italy is home to some truly beautiful porcelain.
Murano Glass
Examples of Murano glass, with its distinct colors and patterns, can be found in castles, palaces, and other opulent buildings around the globe–and it can definitely make an incredible souvenir from Italy!
While you can find Murano glass available for purchase across Italy, it’s especially lovely (and you’ll have the best selection) purchasing it on Murano or in nearby Venice.
Perugia Tablecloths
The popularity of beautiful tablecloths from Perugia dates all the way back to the 13th century!
If you’re visiting Umbria, it’s still absolutely worth picking one up today.
Door Knockers
Door knockers may be one of the more eclectic Italy souvenirs on this list, but if you’re in the market for one, you’ll certainly find an incredible selection in Italy!
While you can find them in shops, if you’re lucky enough to visit a flea market or antique fair when looking for things to bring back from Italy, you can have luck there as well.
Christmas Ornaments
The best way to go shopping in Italy for Christmas ornaments is at the annual Christmas markets, of course–but you can find beautiful ones year-round!
Easy to buy and easy to pack, Christmas ornaments also make excellent gifts from Italy for people you love back home.
Burano Lace
Italian lace–and specifically lace from the island of Burano near Venice–is cherished, and like Murano glass, has been popular with the extremely wealthy for centuries.
One of its best-known customers was Leonardo da Vinci himself, who bought a piece for the altar of the Duomo of Milan !
While most of the lace you’ll see for sale in Burano these days is made by machine or a hybrid of machine work and handmade touches (the traditional handmade pieces take months to create and cost thousands of dollars), it is still stunning!
If you’re looking for the best souvenirs from Venice , there’s no doubt that Burano lace ranks among them.
Venetian Masks
What’s a trip to Venice without buying a Venetian mask?
With options raising in price from roughly 3 Euro to thousands, some version of this Italian souvenir is an option for everyone.
Original Art
Of all of the options listed in this guide to what to buy in Italy, a piece of original art definitely ranks as one of the most memorable and unique!
It doesn’t necessarily need to be a prohibitively expensive purchase, either: from small crafts and sketches to enormous oil paintings, statues, and beyond, there are many ways to bring a piece of Italian art home with you.
Prefer Italian souvenirs that you can wear?
These are some of the best options for shopping in Italy if you have your eye on clothes and accessories!
Not just any perfume, though–one purchased from a historic and beautiful location.
Consider purchasing a scent at the 13th-century Santa Maria Novella Pharmacy in Florence or the flagship Merchant of Venice store in Venice when shopping in Italy!
Leather Goods
Leather clothing and accessories, including jackets, bags, belts, shoes, and more, are some of the most popular artisanal goods sold in Italy, especially in Tuscany!
Goods can vary wildly in price and quality, but if you’re looking to get beyond the standard tourist offerings, the Scuola del Cuoio in Florence is a great place to look.
(Not that there’s anything wrong with sticking to a budget if that’s what’s in your price range, though–Jeremy’s fairly inexpensive Italian wallet has been with us for many years now).
Gold Jewelry
Italian gold is known for its high quality–most of the gold sold in the country is at least 18 karat–and its enormous number of artisans will make sure you have plenty of pieces to fall in love with.
You’ll certainly pay a bit more there, but if you’re in the market for a gold souvenir from Italy, the most memorable place to purchase it is undoubtedly from one of the (many) shops along the Ponte Vecchio in Florence.
Italy is known for its high fashion shopping opportunities, and that includes watches.
If you’re looking to splurge on a timepiece anytime soon, Italy is a great place to do it!
Handmade Shoes
One of the most popular souvenirs from the Amalfi Coast (or nearby spots like Capri ) is to have a pair of leather sandals handmade for you onsite .
T he tradition extends beyond the Amalfi Coast, and you’ll find these souvenir options in Tuscany, as well.
Luxury Clothes and Accessories from Italian Designers
Valentino, Prada, Armani, Versace, Fendi, Dolce & Gabbana… even casual observers of luxury brands can no doubt name off several of the big names from Italy!
If you’re looking to splurge on any designer pieces, Italy is absolutely the place to do it–not only is the selection incredible, but you’ll actually often pay less in Italy than you would for the same luxury goods abroad!
Like luxury, but also like deals?
You can also go souvenir shopping in Italy at a luxury outlet retailer–you can even hop a shuttle bus to one near Florence!
Book your shopping trip today!
Leather Wallet
Jeremy loves his wallet from Tuscany–and wallets also make great gifts to pick up while shopping in Italy!
Beautiful stationery is one of the best things to buy in Italy, and Florence and Venice are especially known for it.
This is a particularly wonderful Italian souvenir for honeymooners –what a memorable way to write thank-you notes when you get home!
For Catholics, especially those visiting the Vatican , a rosary can be a particularly meaningful reminder of their trip to Italy.
Additional Religious Items
In addition to rosaries, (Catholic) icons and crucifixes are also popular religious souvenirs from Italy.
You’ll find them for sale all over, but the gift shops of famous churches and cathedrals are a very reliable option!
Whether used or new, books are one of the best ways to remember a trip!
English-language books are fairly easy to find when shopping in Italy (in addition to English-language bookstores, the gift shops of museums are a great place to look), and we’ve collected several over the years.
Only have a few Euro or a small sliver of space in your luggage to spare?
These Italy souvenirs might be right for you!
Magnets are one of the most popular souvenirs to collect from around the world and often run only a few Euro apiece.
It’s worth waiting to find one that really sticks out to you–I spent almost a week looking for the right Sicily magnet, for example, but absolutely adore the one we ended up with!
What better way is there to reminisce about your trip to Italy than to be reminded of it every time you go to make a hot drink and pull your mug from Italy out of the cabinet?
Postcards are the ultimate combination of inexpensive, easy to pack, and easily personalized, making them one of the best budget souvenirs from Italy!
They tend to run .50 to 1 Euro each, but if you’re up to spending an extra couple Euro on top of that, consider filling a postcard out with your memories of the day right then and there.
Then, send it to yourself so you can relive your Italy memories as you return home (or a few weeks after, really–we’ve found that it takes quite a while to receive postcards from Italy in the USA!).
When shopping for food items, check for their certifications.
Italy takes its food incredibly seriously–so seriously, in fact, that there are different certifications a product can earn, stating that it was made in a particular place, with particular ingredients, or with a particular technique.
Look for the DOP and/or IGP labels when shopping in Italy for food products, and you’re bound to come away with a great example of Italian gastronomy.
Shop your region.
While you can find beautiful Italy souvenirs all over the country and can find most of the items included in this Italy shopping guide in many places, shopping for products specific to the region you’re visiting can add something special to the memory while helping ensure you have the best possible selection available.
For example, consider shopping for olive oil in Tuscany, glass in Murano , or masks in Venice!
Have a plan for which souvenirs from Italy you want before starting your trip.
You won’t need to stick to your plan exactly, of course–shopping spontaneously can be part of the fun of travel–but having a general idea of what you want to look for when shopping in Italy can help add structure to your browsing, and in some cases, help limit indecisiveness (for me, anyway).
For example, I already know that I want to pick up a couple of ceramic soap dispensers on our next trip to Italy!
Consider quality over quantity.
When deciding what to buy in Italy, think about quality over quantity.
I t’s incredibly easy to end up buying more Italy souvenirs than expected, and ending up with more knick-knacks than you really need.
In our experience, it’s much better to buy 1-2 truly memorable souvenirs than a whole slew of less memorable ones!
Note the trip and date of purchase on your Italy souvenirs.
You may find it easy to remember when and where you purchased your beautiful souvenirs from Italy now–but give it a decade or three, and you may be very glad you noted the place and year of purchase with the item!
We tend to write the info on the bottom of home decor pieces or Christmas ornaments and love the tradition of it.
Check on transportation regulations.
For the majority of these souvenirs from Italy, there is absolutely no issue with bringing them back yourself in your checked luggage.
F or food items, though, be sure to double-check any necessary regulations before packing up to leave Italy (and for anything not allowed, well–now you have a good excuse to eat them during your trip!).
For Americans like us, check the USDA regulations here .
Check on shipping costs if necessary.
If you’re carrying back something particularly fragile, heavy, or potentially regulated, it’s definitely worth at least inquiring about the cost of shipping.
M any small businesses and artisans in Italy are able and willing to ship their goods abroad , so be sure to ask!
It can definitely make your travels simpler if you don’t have to worry about carrying any particularly heavy or delicate purchases home with you.
… and leave extra space in your bag!
It’s definitely worth leaving an extra outfit or two at home to make sure that you have enough room in your luggage to accommodate a couple of the best souvenirs from Italy for yo u!

About Kate Storm
In May 2016, I left my suburban life in the USA and became a full-time traveler. Since then, I have visited 50+ countries on 5 continents and lived in Portugal, developing a special love of traveling in Europe (especially Italy) along the way. Today, along with my husband Jeremy and dog Ranger, I’m working toward my eventual goal of splitting my life between Europe and the USA.

Very helpful! Thanks for writing this and sharing this information!
Nice job! Thanks for the info!
Thank you! I love the idea of a door knocker!
Hi Thanks for the tips! Question: Is it crazy expensive to ship dishes (12 dinner plates) home to US from Positano?
Depends on a lot of factors, but it’s doable and popular! I recommend speaking with the local shop once you find the ones you want–they almost always have shipping programs available and can give more specific information.
Do you recommend aby specific shops for souvenirs, or have a post about that? Thanks!
Hi Yesenia!
I’ll occasionally mention a place or shop in posts about specific destinations, but I don’t have any full guides on where to shop. That’s more of a city-by-city thing, like restaurants.
I usually skim through a some of these guides, however, I read, enjoyed and learned so much from your post.
My husband and I are visiting Tuscany and the Amalie coast in September. Your itineraries and suggestions are practical and have added to the excitement of our upcoming trip. Thank you!
Thank you so much, Elizabeth! Love hearing that travelers find our articles helpful. 🙂
Hope you guys have a fantastic time in Italy!
Thanks for the info,it’s useful and interesting, specially about expenses and budget on souvenirs.
Loved your article! Wanted to point out, however, that the TSA is not the governing authority for items being brought into the US. For that you need to check US Agriculture and Customs. Cured meats such as prosciutto and parma ham are NOT allowed in, sadly! I will have to settle for some great olive and truffle oils.
Happy travels!
Thanks, Kara! I’ll look into getting that link updated. 🙂
The last picture shows a GERMAN (!) market! Germany and Italy is not exactly the same, just saying… 😀
You’re right that there’s German on the signs, but it’s not exactly a German market–I took that photo in Bolzano, in Italy’s South Tyrol region!
The region is definitely part of Italy (since 1918) but has very close ties with Austria and was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire pre-WWI. Many of those traditions, including the German language, survive to this day.
It’s a very interesting place to visit! You can read more about the very cool city of Bolzano (German name Bozen–most towns up there have dual names in each language) in this blog post: https://www.ourescapeclause.com/things-to-do-in-bolzano-italy/
Thankyou for your very interesting articles. They’ve given me lots of ideas. My husband and I will be staying in Sacile (Venezia-Giulia) for some days in September. Do you know anything about this town?
We’ve never been there, but it looks beautiful! The only place we’ve had a chance to visit in Friuli Venezia Giulia so far is Trieste.
Although luxury items may be cheaper, you will still have to claim them when going through customs! You’ll be changed the taxes coming back into the US!
It’s a case-by-case basis (how much did you buy, what is it, etc.) but you generally still come out ahead, especially since you can have the VAT (European tax) refunded at the airport before you leave!

Luckily, I found plenty of on-sale spring-y clothing items and accessories, including some colorful Tevas, a gauzy top from J.Crew, and a few lightweight closet staples from Cos’s Friends and Family sale. For beauty lovers on a budget, I’ve also included some of our readers’ favorite products (such as the very best cream blush) from Sephora’s Savings Event , which is live until the end of the weekend. Then there are some outdoor essentials, such as a sip-anywhere personal water filter and a lively green towel. And as always, make sure to sign up for our email newsletter for even more sales coverage.
Studs is having a sitewide sale with 20 percent off all their earrings, cuffs, and chains. This cute chunky huggie is available in gold and silver (I’m eyeing the former), single or as a pair, and is safe for sensitive ears.
This cute baguette stud comes in classic silver or gold options, or you could welcome spring with the delightful emerald-and-gold stud .
I’ve included this personal water filter for avid hikers and the folks (myself included) who realized their emergency preparedness was lackluster after New York’s recent earthquake. To use, simply stick the straw in water and sip.
For transitioning babies off the bottle, consider this straw-training cup, which is the perfect size for tiny hands and almost half off with our special code. You can use it with the lid and straw or with an open top, and the straw has sensory bumps that will help your kid know where to keep their lips while sipping.
From the maker of our favorite black tees with pockets comes this classic black tee .
Strategist contributor Mya Gelber recently told us that the white version of this tee is “one of the few white T-shirts you could get away with wearing in a corporate setting.” But there’s also this fun spring-y green striped option that is discounted as part of Cos’s sitewide Friends and Family sale (25 percent off everything, automatically applied at checkout).
This crisp, breezy shirt dress will keep you cool and looking put-together no matter how warm it gets outside. On cooler days, it will go nicely layered with a sweater .
We named Dyson’s V8 stick vac the best lightweight cordless vacuum , and this version has a 40-minute run time, weighs less than six pounds, and comes with some handy attachments (a combination tool, crevice tool, and hair-screw tool).
Sephora’s Savings Event is still going strong but will end in just a few days. One of the items Strategist readers have been stocking up on is Summer Fridays’ Lip Butter Balm. It’s still in stock in a few colors, including this delicious deep-brown shade that smells like brown sugar.
After testing 20 popular cream blushes , Strategist beauty columnist Rio Viera-Newton named this the best one. It’s richly pigmented and delivers a lightweight powdery finish.
Finally, there’s the dry shampoo that Strategist writer Arielle Avila told us is her new favorite. It allows her to go days after a wash without an oily or irritated scalp. Plus it smells fresh and expensive, she writes.
Among the variety of items on sale at J.Crew is this camp-collar shirt, which comes in a subtly puckered cotton grid weave and six colors.
For cooler temps, this rugged and soft collared shirt feels like a cozy sweater but looks like a structured shirt. Customer reviews say it runs slightly large, which makes it ideal for layering.
This white button-up has classic tailoring but comes in a soft, lightweight double-gauze that goes with just about everything and doesn’t require ironing.
Whether you’re looking to refresh your table linens or planning some dinner parties, these linen napkins will complement your place settings nicely. Along with this pale-orange option that Tekla is calling “Apple Core” I love the pastel-green and cobalt-blue options.
For tanning and swimming, there’s this eye-catching towel in a trippy print that is more than a third off.
If you’re in need of some new sandals, check out these discounted tie-dye sandals from REI. They’re one of the many comfortable shoes that celebrities have told us they can’t live without.
These linerless shorts will be great for warm-weather workouts and are designed specifically for running and training.
Lululemon’s ever-popular Align Leggings are on sale. And this version has very handy pockets.
Last but not least, there’s this welcoming woven doormat from West Elm. It’s mold-resistant and can be vacuumed or hosed off if your shoes have tracked in anything from April showers.
