Head Graphene 360+ Prestige Tour

Posted by RacquetQuest

When we do the testing and “number taking” for our demo racquets, we try to think as the consumer may think and include comments that may help the consumer make the best decision.

We do not want to make these posts so dull that you go to sleep, but data is essential, so we are going to include it…so stay awake!

head prestige tour graphene 360

Data is particularly relevant to the Prestige Series from Head.

This review is for the Prestige Tour, and it points to the differences between Prestige racquets that may go unnoticed or misunderstood.

The Prestige Tour is a 99 (645 cm²)square inch racquet with an 18 x 19 string pattern. If you have read the post on the  Prestige MP , you may wonder, what’s the difference?

You may notice that the Prestige Tour has one (1) fewer cross string.  Not a big deal . You may see that the Prestige Tour has one (1) square inch larger head size. Also,  not a big deal.  What you may not notice is the Prestige Tour has an in-plane stiffness of 400, and the Prestige MP has an in-plane stiffness of 359.  That is a big deal!  Even with a bigger head and fewer strings, the Prestige Tour has a higher string bed stiffness than the Prestige MP. The higher the in-plane stiffness, the less the racquet will “bend” during impact.

The Prestige Tour is more stiff overall (62 v 58) than the Prestige MP, and the 21.5mm beam contributes to that stiffness.

So, take a look at the numbers for this racquet to see if you can find other exciting differences!

New HEAD Prestige Racquets

head prestige tour graphene 360

I have had the fortune to play-test the new HEAD Prestige racquets over a period of a couple of weeks. In short, this is a great update.

The HEAD Prestige is one of the more iconic racquet lines of all time. It has been played by many, many pro and recreational players of the years. The Prestige line has always been about control. Nothing has changed about this Graphene 360+ update. It is all about pinpoint precision.

You can read about the 2023 HEAD Prestige Racquets here .

So what is different with the new HEAD Prestige racquets compared to the previous version? There are a few mold changes, but the overall difference is the addition of Spiralfibers. This gives the Prestige a feeling of more old-school racquets, something I personally love. It is especially apparent in the MP version, where you can really feel the dwell-time of the ball on the stringbed. Lovers of classic HEAD racquets will definitely enjoy this sensation.

The new HEAD Prestige racquets: Specs

The HEAD Graphene 360+ Prestige comes in five different models: Mid, Pro, MP, Tour and S. The MP has gone from a 95 sq inch racquet to a “true” 98 sq inch head size, the S has the same mold as the Tour but a lighter weight and a 16×19 instead of 18×19 string pattern. Although 95 sq inch racquets are my usual “sweet spot”, I really felt that this was a good move. The feeling of the MP is very plush and I find it to be a very versatile racquet. But more about the different models below.

What is not yet published by HEAD are the stiffness ratings (usually listed in RA from 50-75). RA does not tell the whole story about how a racquet performs and how comfortable it is (weight, layup, beamwidth, etc impacts that too), but I would say the overall idea with the Prestige is a stiffness rating closer to 60. The stiffness goes up a bit when it comes to the S and the Tour, but they are not harsh or uncomfortable.

head prestige tour graphene 360

How do they play?

Before I describe the various different models, I want to say that the Spiralfibers really soften the feel from the previous Graphene Touch version. It definitely suits the Prestige lines and brings it closer to older versions. The tech is similar to the Gravity racquets (click to read my review) so if you like the feel of those racquets, these racquets are the smaller, more traditional style (box beam!) versions of the Gravity.

head prestige tour graphene 360

Mid A true 93 sq inch racquet. Not as flexible as the legendary Prestige Classic, but with more free power. A suitable racquet for attacking players who like to move towards the net. Low on power, high on control. Some access to spin thanks to the 16×19 string pattern. A nice racquet when you are in the attacking mood, but midsize racquets are quite demanding so this is definitely for the advanced player. I really like playing with it, but it is not my favorite of the bunch. I would use a hybrid or a multifilament string in this racquet.

Pro On paper, the Pro should be the one closest to my heart. It has a true 95 sq inch head size, an open pattern and a slightly thicker beam (22 mm) for more power. It is quite precise and plays similar to the Mid, but with a larger head size. I really like this racquet, since it comes around fast enough on groundstrokes and gives me excellent precision at the net. Still, a bit more difficult to use than the MP. I played this racquet with Lynx and Hawk Touch. You can string at a low tension (below 20 kg / 49 lbs) and get some nice pocketing on the ball. A hybrid setup with a soft string in the mains can be a good idea.

head prestige tour graphene 360

The “new” racquets in the line

Tour The Tour was introduced in the Graphene Touch series and is more forgiving than the racquets above and a suitable “tweener” at 99 sq inches with an 18×19 string pattern. It is not as plush or precise as the MP, but gives you better access to spin and is easier to use. I am not sure about the naming here with MP, Pro, and Tour with different specs. Both Tour and Pro sound like fairly demanding racquets, but this one could suit a player who wants something in between a Gravity Tour and a Prestige MP. I liked this racquet with the new HEAD Experimental Tour (soon to be released as Lynx Tour) strung at 51 lbs / 23 kg.

S The S is a little light for my taste and feels like something Extreme or Instinct-like with less power. The demographic isn’t crystal clear for this frame and it kind of ends in between the different lines of racquets. Not so Prestige-like in my opinion, but not a bad racquet by any means. Just not sure about the identity. I preferred this racquet with HEAD Experimental Tour strung at 53 lbs.

It offers a lot of spin and power, but better control than more Pure Drive-inspired racquets. A good platform racquet for players who like to start with a low static weight and weigh it up to their preferred specs.

I really believe that the new HEAD Prestige line-up is a significant improvement over the Graphene Touch version. I feel more connected to the ball, the comfort is improved and I think there are quite a few options to suit your game if you are a player looking for control. I personally enjoyed the Mid, Pro and the MP, but the MP had the sweetest feel of the bunch. The ball pocketing was exceptional and although moving to a larger head size was a bold move (although it will annoy some of the Prestige MP fans), it really seems to have worked out well.

If you are an advanced player who likes to feel connected to your racquet on every shot, you should definitely try the new Prestige. A video review to come soon.

Have you tried the new Prestige racquets? What do you think?

How would you compare the MP to the Wilson Ultra Tour 97? Meaning do I need to own both? ?

Do you know the swingweight of each model?

Jonas..great reviews on these 5 new frames from Head,,,you really broke it down comparing each model verses the slightly larger or smaller head sizes offered. And all the other specs as well weight, beam, string pattern ect,ect.. But what I did not get was the over all length of each model, and are these 27 inch frames only or do they come in a XL longer model,as many many players now looking for that slightly longer frame,as Novak new racquet is 3/8 inch longer than his old model Head racquet. A new product that by simply changing the factory butt cap on any racquet can add half an inch in length, it’s called the XTP Xtended Tennis Product butt cap. Many players now making a standard 27 to a XL 27.5 easily done just by installing the XTP cap. Truly.jk

Since you tested C10 Pro few weeks ago, how the power of new Prestiges compare to the Volkl? I was a lover of Prestige but abandoned them because of its extremely low power.

How does this compare to the 2015 Wilson blade 18×20? How much lead did you put at 12 o’clock on the m MP and did you add any weight in the handle to counter balance? Thanks

Hej Jonas! How does the midplus compare to the pro tour 280/630? God Jul!

I really like the color of the new Prestige! A great mix of the old-school Prestige Classic and the new bold design of 21´st century. I woulds also say Head is onto something good here with the spiralfibres. A great mix between new and old. A mix that brings the best of two worlds into action.

Could you meassure the sw? The prestige tour looks like a great platform for customizing.

After playing with Prestige frame (every version since the Classic and on), I had been waiting for the new Graphene 360+ Prestige to come up. Gotta say this – Have been demoing Mid, MP and Pro for a while now. In my personal opinion, they look bad and play even worse. Since the introduction of the Graphene (2014), Head designer team is going in the wrong direction.

I tried the Pro version with Head Lynx Tour in it. I have to say what a great feeling racquet. I come from the graphene touch en tried several others in between like the wilson ultra tour, prince phantom, wilson blade. But this racquet is something else. It’s supposed to be stiff but it flexes beautifully. And when you hit the sweet spot you’ll get lots off power. I’ve got one thing to say just test it yourself.

Hello Jonas, Coming from RF97A I‘ve been thinking of switching to either Head Gravity Tour or Head Prestige MP May I ask you which one would you prefer and why? So far I couldn’t test the new Prestige MP yet, the Gravity Tour was pleasant racket and plays very similar to my old Head Youtek IG Prestige MP. Looking forward to your thoughts, Kind regards Nikolaus

Hi Nikolaus,

The Gravity Tour is easier to use. A bigger sweet spot, slightly more power. I would recommend that one.

Regards / J

Many thanks Jonas for your answer! Regarding strings for the Gravity Tour would you rather go for a full bed Poly Head Hawk, Head Hawk Touch or Head Lynx? Or would you chose a different set up? I‘ve tried a full bed Head Lynx Tour and this string didn’t suit me at all (strung 24/23kg). Kind regards Nikolaus

I would go with HEAD Lynx or HEAD Velocity MLT. These are really comfortable yet quite controlled strings. 23-24 kg is good. Cheers / J

Thanks a lot Jonas, I‘ll try the strings and as soon as I‘ve received my Gravity Tour I‘ll post my feedback here! Great blog BTW ;-)

Hello Jonas, like always top reports. What is are the differences between the Head Gravity 360+ MP and the Head Prestige 360+ S? What do you think, who has more power, control, stiffness, sweatspot ect.? Thanks a lot. Great work. Joe U

Tried Prestige S and loved it. Consider switching from GT Speed MP Blue. 295 g and 325 mm balance are good base for customization. Would add 5-7 grams to slightly increase SW keeping the weight still low and arm friendly.

Feel, mould, manouvrability – all work very fine for me. Slightly less powered than Speed MP (but still very decent), which means I can put 100% of power in the shot. Spin is also already good as for control racket. Stiffness (Ra=61), beam (21,5, box), head (99) and open pattern (16 mains) nicely paired together.

Head Graphene 360+ Prestige MidPlus Racket Review

Head brings back the classic feel with the Graphene 360+ Prestige MidPlus! This racket combines old school plushness with modern technological advancements, appealing to a modern player that likes to play a classy brand of tennis. A thin beam, smaller head size and dense string pattern all make the Prestige MidPlus a control-oriented racket that will help you dial in your game. The low stiffness rating combined with the updated Graphene technology gives the 360+ Prestige MidPlus a great combination of stability and smooth flexibility.

8.5 out of 10

The Prestige line of rackets from Head has historically been aimed at players looking for ultimate control, feel and comfort from a racket. Head has stayed true to its roots with this version of the Prestige , giving it a thinner beam than the previous version to reduce power but enhance that connected feel.

The updated use of Graphene 360+ adds stability to this thin frame, which is a welcome addition given the lower flex rating of 61. This gives the racket a nice balance between plushness and a crisp feel.

Flexible rackets like the Prince Phantom 100P are great for giving you a smooth ride and a well-connected feel but can feel a little mushy due to the lack of stability and plough through they offer at times.

This is something that Head has managed to overcome largely due to their Graphene 360+. It does a great job of cancelling out any of the additional unwanted vibrations that the increased flexibility of the racket produces, without losing that signature plushness.

Flexible rackets can almost feel a bit boxy or rattly at times because of the reduced stability they inherently have. However, whilst the Head Graphene 360+ Prestige MidPlus does show signs of its flexibility, it is not enough to upset the contact of the ball.

The weight is really well judged and that MidPlus name tag does the racket justice!

It is a reassuringly solid feeling thanks to the generous swing weight but is still manoeuvrable enough to whip the ball around the court.

The exquisite feel is evident on slices and when approaching the net. This is where the racket really comes into the net when you need to rely on that dialled in feel to hit a shot with precision.

The racket does of course feel at home at the baseline, but it is the type of racket that really suits an all-court style of game. That being said, the Head Graphene 360+ Prestige MidPlus may feel a bit intimidating for less experienced players that lack the natural power and technical ability to handle such a control focused racket.

It is not a racket that a beginner should use lightly, as the smaller sweet spot and thinner beam don’t make it the most forgiving racket in the world in terms of margin for error.

Whilst the flexibility makes it very comfortable to use, the specs don’t stack up well for players with compact swings that need some extra pop from their racket.

You can really smooth the ball with the Head Graphene 360+ Prestige Midplus. If you time the ball well and have sound technique this is a very enjoyable racket to hit with. It’s butter smooth and sometimes you can hardly feel the ball coming off the strings when you middle it.

The dense 18×20 string pattern helps with the accuracy and control, but also produces a surprisingly high launch angle. You therefore get a decent amount of spin considering how small the gaps in the string bed are, which adds to the ‘all rounder’ capabilities of the racket.

The low powered nature of the racket also encourages you to attack the ball with a lot of racket head speed, therefore increasing the amount of spin you can generate.

This racket would definitely suit a player that likes to rip a few balls from the baseline then take their chances and rush into the net to pile the pressure on their opponent.

This racket would pair well with a hybrid of a spin friendly polyester and a soft multifilament, giving a great blend of spin, control and feel. String it down at a slightly lower tension for added power and you’ll be onto a winning combination!

9 out of 10

Up at the net is where the Head Graphene 360+ Prestige MP felt most at home. The flexibility offered a plush feel which made it so easy to guide the ball with confidence.

If you have solid volley technique, this racket will be a joy to use. It is crisp, precise and responsive, making it one of the most satisfying rackets to volley with money can buy.

It strikes a great balance between comfort and stability, which are characteristics that do really well up at the net. Transitioning from the baseline into the net is one of the most tricky aspects of tennis.

But the Head Graphene 360+ Prestige MP gives you the confidence to take on this challenge with confidence, time after time. It is a racket that just allows you to feel exactly what is going on in the string bed as it contacts the ball, without sending too many unwanted vibrations down your arm.

This is another example of a classic racket that has benefited from the use of modern technology. The Prestige has been heavily reworked compared to the previous version.

Even with the 98sq in head compared to the classic 95sq in that most Prestiges have typically come with, this version is still very control oriented.

Overall, the Head Graphene 360+ Prestige MidPlus is a fantastic volleying racket that lovers of doubles and net rushing should definitely try out.

While the Prestige MidPlus is not the most powerful racket in the world, it more than makes up for it in the control and accuracy department.

Everything about this racket’s specs screams precision and control, and that is exactly what you get on serve.

While the weight of the racket feels solid in the hand, it is still pretty easy to swing above the head. You can serve all day long, hitting your spots consistently and not feel like the racket is weighing you down.

The Head Graphene 360+ Prestige MidPlus is also a strong performer in the spin department. This is something that some densely stung rackets can sometimes struggle with, as they are more geared towards a ‘dead’ feel and offering control, rather than specialising in lively spin.

However, Head has engineered this racket to generate more spin with more stability than the previous version, so carving out angles and hitting your spots can be done with ease.

8 out of 10

On returns the Head Graphene 360+ Prestige MidPlus did a great job of adding accuracy and feel to my shots.

Whilst it is not a very powerful racket and also has a low stiffness rating, the sweet spot felt approachable and you can definitely block the ball back deep in the court without having to dial in that much.

This is a real point and shoot racket that allows you to take big cuts at the ball and trust that it will find the court.

The added bonus of more spin along with the control, feel and accuracy of the racket gives you the confidence to go after your returns a bit more than you would with a more powerful racket.

This again helps you get into that aggressive mindset and look to rush your opponent by playing with more purpose.

The Prestige MidPlus is a racket that suits a player that likes to chip and charge too. You can place the ball with precision accurately and put the ball away up at the net, surprising your opponent and putting them under constant pressure.

This is also a racket that encourages you to win points in different ways. I found myself going for shorter slices and slow angles just as much as hitting firmly up the middle of the court.

Overall, the Head Graphene 360+ Prestige MidPlus is a racket that harks back to Head’s heritage, but brings a classic line up to date.

The addition of updated Graphene technology adds more stability and forgiveness to the frame, whilst the changes Head has made to the specifications allow the racket to be closer to its roots.

The thin beam, dense string pattern and head light balance help the racket to be manoeuvrable and control oriented. However, the 98 sq in head size and added spin potential make the Head Graphene 360+ Prestige MidPlus well suited to the modern game.

If you are an intermediate to advanced level player that likes to play an aggressive, all court game and wants a control focussed racket that is easy to swing, this could well be up your street.

Men’s vs Women’s Tennis Rackets: What’s the Difference?

Is there really a difference between men’s and women’s rackets? This is a commonly asked question that doesn’t have a very clear answer. Whilst there aren’t specific rackets that are designed for men or women tennis players, there are some trends in both the men’s and women’s games that make…

top

The Head Prestige is one of the most storied racquet lines in tennis history. Any update has to carefully blend the long held attributes of the lineage with modern updates that keep the frame a viable option for players. The new Graphene 360+ Prestige Pro benefits from the use of Graphene 360+ . The + represents the addition of Spiralfibers at the 5 and 7 areas of the hoop, providing better feel on contact and improved flex. The Pro uses a 95 inch head size to sit in between the 93 inch Mid and now true 98 inch head of the MP. Another notable update is Head’s effort to make their handle shape more universal. The Prestige line has now adopted the handle shape first used on the Speed that has now also been added to the Radical line. I grew up on more classic, player oriented frames so I was excited to hit with the latest iteration of the Head Prestige Pro.

Groundstrokes

From the back of the court, the Prestige Pro still emphasized control over power. The 95 inch head didn’t over a massive sweet spot but it was big enough to feel I could hit it consistently. The 22 mm beam offered a bit more power compared to the thinner beam of the Mid. With an 11.8 oz strung weight and a healthy swingweight, I felt confident hitting with authority off either wing. The racquet was a little slower feeling than the last version (which was a little lighter) but I still found it easy to accelerate through contact and put pace on my shots. Precision was a highlight of groundstrokes with this frame Not only did it have easily controlled power, it had exceptional directional control. It was a breeze to pick aggressive targets during rallies and move the ball all over the court. The 16 x 19 pattern had plenty of spin, especially if I had enough speed on my swing. I was surprised at how well I could get air under my backhand and lift it over the net with margin. For a 95, I found this racquet to be one of the most spin friendly. Stability was also another strong point on the baseline. The healthy mass and swingweight worked in tandem to absorb pace and blunt big hitters advantage. The racquet wasn’t a breeze to use defensively, but it had enough speed to hit that I was able scramble and reset points fairly regularly.

Volleys & Serves

As a Prestige should be, the Prestige Pro was an outstanding performer at the net. It was very nimble and quick for me to guide into position during exchanges at the front of the court. It was a hair slower than the half CAP grommeted Mid but was still very responsive. Like any classic player frame, I had to bring a bit of my own power to finish volleys, but the big plus was that I rarely overcooked or sailed a volley with the Prestige Pro. It had outstanding control and accuracy on volleys. I could consistently pick a spot on the court and hit it with ease. With a moderate RA, the Pro had solid flex and feel. This resulted in high confidence when I attempted touch and drop volleys. Stability was again a high point of net play. The slightly thicker beam gave the Pro even more stability than I had with the Mid. It blocked defensive volleys and absorbed body blows remarkably well.

On serve, the 360+ Prestige Pro proved out the mantra, “Consistency Kills.” It wasn’t a mindless power monster like so many modern frames can be on serve. I felt the racquet gave me what I put into it on first serve and I enjoyed this true, unfiltered connection on serve. Rather than try to brute force my way into big serves, I instead relied on spot serving to control my service games. I had no trouble moving my serve to a variety of locations around the box, keeping returners guessing. While not a massive spin generator on second serve, I found ample spin with the Prestige Pro for kick and slice serves. Whether I wanted to jump the ball out of the strike zone or send a slice serve skidding out of the court, I felt confident I could execute any time I needed to.

Feel/Comfort

The usage of Graphene 360+ improved the feel and response of the Prestige over the last generation. While the stiffness may have gone up a bit, I found it to have better ball connection and more consistent feedback. It was firm when it needed to be but also had flex for executing delicate shots (thanks Spiralfibers!). Response was relatively uniform although there was some power drop off in the top off the hoop. I found the racquet to feel clean on contact, with little jarring or buzz off center. Players should be able to use a wide variety of string types and tensions without worry of damaging their arms.

Head has a delicate game to play anytime they update the Prestige line. The new Pro model packs enough punch to keep pace in the modern game while also deploying its classic capabilities positively. It offers exceptional touch and accuracy while allowing access enough pace and spin to cause damage. The new Head Graphene 360+ Prestige Pro is an excellent match for aggressive minded players who want to attack with more than a one dimensional power game plan.

Head Prestige Tour (2020) tennis racket review

The Head Prestige is probably Head’s most well known and talked about advanced players tennis racket mainly thanks to the legendary players that have become synonymous with the red racket over the years. When we found out the frame was undergoing a belt and braces upgrade we just had to try it out for ourselves. Here’s how it went…

Head have been investing considerable resources in their whole racket range in recent years most notably with the launch of a complete new range, the Gravity , which went on sale last summer to great fanfare. Now they’ve decided that the hugely succesful Prestige needed the same treatment.

The background

When someone says Head Prestige it immediately conjures up images of Marat Safin, Gustavo Kuerten and Thomas Muster winning match after match on the red clay whilst their racket literally ‘whistled’ through the air. Yes that’s right, it whistled! Why? Because of a very tight stringing pattern and stiff frame that, at certain high racket head speeds, would create a whistling sound as the racket swished through the air. So have Head modernised the racket or have they gone back to the aspects of the Prestige that made it so famous? A bit of both actually…

The technology

Head introduced Graphene in 2013 and the material now forms the core component of most of their tennis rackets. Graphene 360 has now been introduced to the Head Prestige whereby the frame incorporates Graphene at all the major impact points including the shaft and the head. Graphene aids the “mass distribution” (hitting the ball) therefore allowing “greater manoeuvrability and more power”.

Spiralfiber technology is new for this iteration of the Prestige and means there are “twisted fibers placed on the shoulder area of the racket which accompany the frame in it’s deformation and provide greater flex and a clean impact feeling”.

The Head Prestige Tour version of the range that we decided to test weighs 305g and has a slightly elongated shaft than normal to help add a bit more flexibility to this traditionally stiff racket.

Watch what happened when our tester tried out the Head Prestige Tour

The play test feedback

tennishead let loose one of our most experienced all-court testers for this session as we really wanted to put the Prestige through it’s paces with a player who’s game closely matched the specification provided by the manufacturer.

Liam hits a relatively flat ball and is very happy grinding it out from the baseline or looking to finish the point quickly in the forecourt, so he was very excited to try this new version of a classic racket.

Firstly, we asked Liam for a comparison to his current racket, a Yonex EZONE 98. “The specifications are very similar between this Prestige Tour and my own racket especially the weight. I felt the head was a little stiffer than what I normally use which made this racket feel more control orientated”.

When Liam started off hitting groundstrokes he immediately noticed the stiffness of the Prestige which he felt “enables him to put the ball where he wanted but sometimes if I hit the ball a bit late maybe the power wasn’t quite there”.

Moving to the net for volleys and touch shots he really enjoyed being able “to do whatever I wanted with the volleys in terms of drop shots, power volleys and really easy to get a load of backspin on it. Really enjoyed it”.

Liam then tried hitting smashes and serves with the Head Prestige Tour and felt that the 305g weight made it “really easy to serve and getting up to the ball was nice as I could put some pace on it, which is great”.

When we asked about the effect of the new spiralfiber technology on the racket Liam said, “In terms of flexibility, I’ve played with other rackets that have more flexibility but I think that’s to do with the fact that this is such a solid frame”.

The specifications

For a detailed explanation of each racket measurement criteria below have a read of our guide.

Head Prestige Tour (2020)

Head size = 99 sq in

Weight = 305g

String pattern = 18/19

In conclusion

This was an exciting racket to test because of the heritage that comes with the Head Prestige and it’s fair to say that Head haven’t tried to change a winning formula, they’ve merely polished a diamond.

If you are an advanced player who likes competitive matches in both singles and doubles and doesn’t rely on masses of topspin then you’ll be doing yourself an injustice if you don’t try the new Head Prestige Tour.

Our advice would be to very carefully choose the right model from the range and also to take your time to try out different types and tensions of string, as the strings will have more of an impact in a racket like this.

Now go ahead and demo a modern classic!

Hi TW Are you going to post a Head 360+ Prestige Tour review? Also can you describe some of the differences between the new and previous version in terms of power, comfort &feel? Thanks

TW Staff

Administrator

lefty100, Yes, we just wrapped up the video yesterday and are in the process of editing it. It should be up by early next week. Personally, I enjoyed this update more than the previous version. There was a lot of similarities - more control oriented, easy maneuverability. However, I found there to be a little more power especially on my serve. In my opinion, I think head made a step in the right direction - a little more plush and responsive than the previous version. I found it to be the most user friendly of the Prestige family. Thanks, Brittany, TW

Thanks for this Brittany

Head Graphene 360+ Extreme Tour Racquet Review

Yonex EZONE 100+ Racquet Review Main Image

Known for eye-catching yellow cosmetics and amazing spin potential, Head's Extreme line has been a fan favorite for years. This time around, Head is shaking things up with the Extreme Tour , which offers a 98-square-inch head size and a thinner beam, translating to more control and precision for our playtest team. However, the Extreme Tour still provides that signature easy-to-swing, spin-friendly Extreme response. The Extreme Tour comes packed with Head's technological bells and whistles, including new Graphene 360+ material, a Dynamic String Pattern and 360 Spin Grommets. One thing that our playtesters didn't expect was the racquet's lower power level compared to the rest of the Extreme family, which enabled them to swing through the ball without the fear of hitting deep past the baseline. The playtesters were all impressed with this new Extreme offering, whether they were playing singles, doubles or just getting in a practice session. Players who are craving a little more control from the Extreme line should definitely check out the Head Graphene 360+ Extreme Tour.

  • Excellent spin potential
  • Maneuverable
  • Control oriented
  • Slightly reduced power

Bottom Line

The newest addition to the Extreme line maintains the series's spin-friendly playability but delivers more control and less power.

Intermediate to advanced

Groundstrokes - Score: 82

The Head Graphene 360+ Extreme Tour was an easy-to-use racquet from the baseline, with excellent spin potential and a more control-oriented response. Jason found this racquet to be extremely easy to swing. He said, "Because of that, I was able to put tons of spin on my groundstrokes. I initially gravitated toward this model over the MP, but as I played more matches with it, I started leaning toward the MP for its easier power. I think the thinner beam, low swingweight and 11-ounce weight all combined to make this Extreme Tour slightly underpowered. On the plus side, I thought this was the most control-oriented Extreme I've hit with in a while."

"I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek at this racquet over a year ago in blacked-out form," added Brittany . "It was the racquet I instantly clicked with before knowing what it was or what the specs were. When we finally got our official sample, I was excited to hit the court, and during the playtest I put it through multiple different situations. The first thing I noticed was how easy this racquet was to swing. I had no trouble generating racquet head speed, but I was also surprised by how low powered it was. This allowed me to swing out, and I was never worried about overhitting. I also thought the 98-square-inch head size was very forgiving. I typically use a 100-square-inch head size and did not have any issues adjusting. I would have liked a little more mass to allow me to really knife the ball on my slices since they were floating a little bit."

After a short adjustment period, Mark was able to find a groove from the baseline. He said, "I have been drawn toward lots of 305-gram frames these days and was excited to be on the playtest of the entirely new Head Graphene 360+ Extreme Tour, which is also 305 grams. From the baseline, I immediately noticed that the string spacing was a little tighter. It almost reminded me of the sweetspot for the Prestige MP, with my backhand slice being one of the benefactors. The result was a slightly lower ball trajectory, but it was still easy for me to develop a tight topspin rotation on either wing. Power-wise, the Extreme Tour feels more control-oriented than powerful, and I was sometimes scolded with a short shot if I was not swinging fast enough. After a couple hours of baseline play, I got used to swinging a little faster and was able to aim my shots to smaller areas of the court."

Tiffani went into this playtest expecting one thing and came out experiencing something entirely different. She said, "My past experiences with the Extreme line have been big power and spin, but this Extreme Tour felt almost underpowered during my first few outings. We had it strung with Lynx Tour 16 at our usual 53-pound tension, and this setup felt too dead in this racquet for my game. Troy strung up one of our samples with a 17-gauge co-poly, and it really helped open up the power potential for me. It didn't turn the racquet into a powerhouse, but I felt much more effective with my shots with a livelier string setup. I enjoyed the quick swing and found that I could easily hit with topspin with the Extreme Tour. With the lower-powered response, I found that I could swing away without worrying too much about overhitting. I only missed some of the free power of the Extreme MP when I was stretched out trying to flick at the ball. Where the Extreme MP might send back a playable shot, the Extreme Tour would not. It was like the racquet was telling me, 'No, sorry. You don't deserve to make that!' All kidding aside, I liked the Extreme Tour's more controlled feel and whippy nature. I could step inside the baseline to hit some angles, especially on the backhand side."

 view 2

Volleys - Score: 80

Our playtesters had lightning-fast hands up at net with the Extreme Tour , but they did experience some stability issues at times. Brittany found success up at net, especially in doubles. She said, "As I have said in the last few Head family releases, I feel like the brand is taking steps in the right direction in terms of feel. This was critical up at net, and I was able to hit both deep volleys and shorter angle volleys. In doubles, I loved how quick the racquet felt and how I could get it into position with ease. This was important during quick reflex volley exchanges. There were a couple times up high or when I was stretching that I did feel some instability, but for the most part, the racquet did its job at net."

Jason felt very comfortable up at net with the Extreme Tour in his hands. He said, "I could quickly react to hard-hit shots without feeling like I was going to get caught in a jam. The downside here is that this racquet can get pushed around, especially with off-center hits. I would definitely add a bit of weight in the hoop to improve stability."

"This Extreme Tour felt very quick in the hand at net, and I liked that it was easy get my racquet on passing shots," added Tiffani . "I had my best experiences when punching through the ball. It didn't have quite enough stability to just block the ball back with good depth and power."

Mark had a similar opinion to the rest of the playtesters. He said, "As with most of my groundstrokes, I also felt confident hitting volleys with the Head Graphene 360+ Extreme Tour. With the exception of when I had to reach for a ball, its 318 swingweight offered enough stability."

 view 3

Serves - Score: 82

The Head Graphene 360+ Extreme Tour produced mixed results for the playtesters when it came to serving. However, serves ended up being Mark's favorite shot to hit with the racquet. He explained, "Where I had to make an adjustment at the baseline with regards to the Extreme Tour's head-light balance of around 6 points, serving felt natural to me. There was not much of an increase in my serve speed, but spin and accuracy were great, often allowing me a chance to hit to the open court on my second shot."

"It's not often you'll hear me say that I had more success hitting spin serves than flat ones, but that was the case with the Extreme Tour," said Tiffani . "This racquet moved through the air easily, so I was able to get some additional action on my serves. I struggled to find the plow through on my flat serves, and I prefer a heavier racquet in those instances. This could easily be remedied by adding just a little weight at 10 and 2 in the hoop."

Jason appreciated the precision that the Extreme Tour offered. He said, "The directional control was on point. I felt confident attempting and hitting smaller targets because I could easily snap or pronate my wrist to get the ball where I needed it to go. Sure, I could've used a few more MPHs on my serve, but the spin and control made up for it."

The first thing Brittany noticed was that she was generating a good amount of power on her serve. She described, "Was it Pure Drive-level power? No, but it was enough to keep me on the offensive and get me some free points. With the lower swingweight, I had no issues getting the racquet up and over my head and generating racquet head speed. I was also confident in the placement of my serves, so I could confidently go after riskier targets."

 view 4

Returns - Score: 82

When returning with the Extreme Tour , our playtesters could immediately press the attack thanks to the racquet's maneuverability and control. Returning serves was Tiffani's preferred way to start a point. She said, "The controlled response and quick swing of this Extreme Tour meant that I could take a good cut at most serves. I felt confident picking my spots and going after returns in a more offensive way than I typically would."

Groundstrokes and volleys are generally Mark's forte, and he tends to struggle more when serving or returning serve. That being said, Mark noted, "I felt the most comfortable serving and returning with the Graphene 360+ Extreme Tour, which is a switch. The overall weight to balance ratio of this racquet provided it with enough mass to be stable, and the right amount of maneuverability."

"I was surprised I returned so well with this racquet," said Brittany . "The return is one of my favorite shots to hit in general, and it was definitely my favorite shot with the Extreme Tour. I loved being able to swing freely and take full cuts at the ball on both first and second serve returns. My most successful shot was a low-angled return when my opponents served and volleyed, especially in doubles.”

Jason enjoyed swinging out on his return, but he wasn't as big a fan when it came to blocking or slicing the ball back. He said, "With the Extreme Tour's excellent mobility, I felt like I could hit a variety of returns well. The low swingweight gave me time to take full cuts at the ball, and I could pull my shot down the line or go cross-court with it. I didn't love it when I had to slice or block a shot back, because the ball tended to land a bit short."

Overall - Score: 82

Jason - "The Head Extreme Tour is a user-friendly racquet with great access to spin and control. Much improved feel."

Brittany - "I like the control, maneuverability and spin. I also think the cosmetics are top-notch."

Tiffani - "This racquet offers good control and excellent maneuverability."

Mark - "This is a great racquet for my game, with the main storyline being control, comfort and a high degree of maneuverability. I also like its combination of the optic yellow grip and throat, with a matte grey transition toward the hoop. Lastly, the 16x19 pattern is tight enough to keep me feeling connected to my shots."

Jason - "The Extreme Tour can get pushed around. I would've liked a bit more free power."

Brittany - "Minor dislike, but I just prefer a little more easy power (this came into play when I was on the defensive)."

Tiffani - "I missed some free power when I was stretched on the run."

Mark - "It is hard for me to aim much criticism toward the new Extreme Tour, but it took some getting used to from the baseline."

Comparing the racquet to others they've tried, our testers said:

Jason - "The Head Graphene 360+ Extreme Tour's excellent maneuverability and spin reminds me of the Wilson Clash 100."

Brittany - "I would say the Extreme Tour closely compares to the Head Graphene 360+ Radical MP, which has a lot of the same playing characteristics. Other racquets that come to mind are the Babolat Pure Aero VS and Yonex VCORE Pro 100."

Tiffani - "This Extreme Tour offers the most control and the lowest-powered response in the line. The spin potential is similar to other Extreme racquets, but it didn't have the same explosive power. All that is fine by me, since for better or for worse, I enjoy racquets that offer more control than power. This racquet didn't feel too far off control-wise from my Prince Textreme Tour 100P, and I would also compare it to the new Babolat Pure Aero VS."

Mark - "The feel and power level of the Graphene 360+ Extreme Tour , in my opinion, are closer to the Tecnifibre TF40 305/TFight 305 XTC, Head Graphene 360+ Prestige Tour or Prince Phantom 100X (305), and less like the livelier Babolat Pure Strike 16x19, Pure Aero VS, Pure Drive VS and Yonex EZONE or VCORE 98 (305) frames. In terms of the Wilson Blade, which has to be included, this Extreme Tour exhibits a noticeably higher swingweight, but otherwise is comparable."

  1. Review

Summary. Still a relative newcomer to the storied Prestige lineup, the Tour model gets the Graphene 360+ treatment. This second iteration of Prestige Tour features Graphene 360+ technology, which combines the power and stability of Graphene 360 with added SpiralFibers in the lower portion of the racquet head for a cleaner feel at impact. The solid 326 swingweight provided nice plow through and ...

  2. Head Prestige Tour 2023 Racquet Review

The feel is a bit more flexible and softer than the previous two versions, the Head Prestige Tour 2021 (Auxetic) and Head Graphene 360+ Prestige Pro, and the overall maneuverability is very similar to the Graphene 360+ Prestige Pro. I would compare this Head Prestige Tour 2023 to the likes of the Wilson Pro Staff 97 v14, especially now that the ...

  12. Head Graphene 360+ Prestige MidPlus Racket Review

8.5 out of 10. Overall, the Head Graphene 360+ Prestige MidPlus is a racket that harks back to Head's heritage, but brings a classic line up to date. The addition of updated Graphene technology adds more stability and forgiveness to the frame, whilst the changes Head has made to the specifications allow the racket to be closer to its roots.

  13. Head Graphene 360+ Prestige Pro Tennis Racquet Review

The + represents the addition of Spiralfibers at the 5 and 7 areas of the hoop, providing better feel on contact and improved flex. The Graphene 360+ Prestige Pro is a Prestige that has evolved for the modern more-spin game.
