Magic: The Gathering Convention MagicCon Coming to Chicago, Amsterdam, Las Vegas in 2024

Wizards of the Coast gears up for MagicCon 2024 with three new locations scheduled to host Magic: The Gathering events and tournaments.

2024 is already looking bright for Magic: The Gathering fans, with Wizards of the Coast revealing its lineup of immersive experiences at next year's MagicCon in Chicago, Amsterdam and Las Vegas.

Hot on the heels of September's MagicCon in Las Vegas, WotC has announced its three MagicCons scheduled for 2024, with an early tease of the events in store for Magic: The Gathering fans. MagicCon Chicago kicks off the year in February with a Pro Tour event featuring the upcoming Murders at Karlov Manor set , MtG 's foray into the murder-mystery whodunit genre. The "Secret Lair" Showdown also returns with four qualifier events, pitting the top eight players from each qualifier round in a showdown championship with prize cards Spell Pierce, Murktide Regent and Dark Ritual up for grabs.

Jurassic World Joins Magic: The Gathering in New Ixalan Expansion Set

MagicCon Chicago will also host the 75K Standard Open -- a massive tournament where players compete for a $75,000 prize pool and eight automatic slots in the second Pro Tour of 2024. Separate qualifier rounds will be held for players who want to earn their slot in 2024's second Pro Tour event. Next year's Standard Open will build on the momentum of last September's Limited Open in Las Vegas, where 2,000 players competed for a $100,000 prize pool and first Pro Tour 2024 invites. The Las Vegas Limited Open used Wilds of Eldraine -themed decks in its match gauntlets, which awarded a whopping $20,000 prize to the first-place winner.

MagicCon Chicago Highlight Events

All attractions will convene at MagicCon Chicago's main stage, featuring cosplay contests, the Pro Tour Sunday watch party, a Fallout preview panel and a Murders at Karlov Manor interactive panel on art and world-building with MtG Head Designer Mark Rosewater. Wizards of the Coast also teases Magic: The Gathering fans with special guests, featured artists and more secret treats, all to be revealed in the weeks leading up to the event. 2024's first MagicCon visits the Windy City of Chicago from Feb. 23-25.

How to Build (& How to Beat) The Best Magic: The Gathering Commanders This Month

Magic: The Gathering will then bring MagicCon to Amsterdam from June 28-30, promising a weekend of artist appearances, panels, immersive experiences and tournaments. Its Pro Tour event will also feature Modern Horizons III , a format-breaking set expected to introduce some of the game's most powerful cards. Wizards of the Coast will wrap up 2024 with MagicCon Las Vegas from Oct. 26-28 with the 30th Magic World Competition and a reveal of MtG ’s plans for 2025.

Tickets and badge packages for 2024's MagicCon Chicago go on sale starting Nov. 27 at 10 a.m. PT.

APP Tour Announces Teams Format Play for Pro Players

It was a year full of announcements from the Association of Pickleball Players (APP Tour): global partnerships , organized high school play , plus their announcement about 2024 schedule changes . But the APP has one more surprise up its sleeve, and it stands to upset the pro pickleball scene...

...It's team play. Today, the APP Tour announced its first-ever team-based pro competition to complement its pro tour experience.

The team-based format will be featured at five tour stops as a single-day competition of singles, doubles, and mixed doubles play, with pros vying for their share of the $100,000 prize pool .

Chief Marketing Officer Tom Webb told The Dink that the APP has always intended to add teams competitions "at the right time."

"It had to be done within the context of the efficient use of our resources, not doing it as a response to others, but because it's been planned," Webb said.

"Our strategy is based on embracing all levels of players and therefore embracing all types of competition. We want to offer players the choice that they look for when they want to compete."

The announcement should come as no surprise, since the APP's Jenny Klitch , SVP, Pro Player Relations & Competition, was the original commissioner at Major League Pickleball and even invented the dreambreaker .

Team play format, dates, players, and all other details will be announced soon, Webb says.

UPDATE: The first team based event was announced today. It'll be the Humana Cup, a recurring series of 50+ and 60+ events, slated to begin at the January 17-21 event at Punta Gorda.

Bold moves for the APP

The APP's strategy of late can be summed up in one word: diversify .

Consider that with this year's announcements included, the Tour now covers:

  • International events
  • High school competition
  • Collegiate competition
  • Top-level professional play in standard format AND teams format
  • Senior organized play

To quote the APP's announcement :

"With the addition of a team-based competition, the APP Tour now offers the most variety of any pickleball organization."

A bold claim, but with the current progression of offerings, they may have a point. Until the merger between MLP and PPA goes through, the APP is the only tour that can claim all of these formats and events.

For Immediate Release:

September 30th, 2022: The Disc Golf Pro Tour is pleased to release its 2023 schedule in unison with next year’s PDGA Pro Major schedule. In total, the Tour will represent twenty-eight tournaments (including the 2022-2023 wrap around schedule) across five event designations. All events will earn points towards the 2023 Tour Championship in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Schedule Breakdown By Designation

“As our staff, players, and fans gear up for the 2022 Disc Golf Pro Tour Championship, we’re excited to share a first look at our 2023 Tour schedule,” said DGPT CEO & Tour Director Jeff Spring. “The 2023 season will be another big step forward for the Tour, building on the rock-solid foundation that we’ve grown with this incredible group of touring professionals and our fantastic event teams and partners. Next season’s schedule is designed with the goals of sustainability and professionalism for players and the creation of compelling storylines and action for fans both onsite and online. We aim to continue to usher in a new age of pro disc golf for the players and fans that have made this growth possible. As always, the collaboration with the PDGA is crucial in finalizing a schedule that works well to serve all stakeholders. We thank them for their help in this complicated process, especially in regards to their flexibility on a date adjustment for amateur and junior worlds!”

The most significant portion of the 2023 schedule is dedicated to thirteen Elite Events. In addition to eleven returning events, the Pro Tour heads to Austin, TX, to add The Open at Austin (formerly the Silver Series event, The Open at Belton) and promotes the Music City Open to Elite Status.

Two of the thirteen returning Elite events from the 2022 schedule will carry a new designation of Elite+ . While not a new PDGA-sanctioning tier, Elite + events will feature bigger purses, additional media focus, and elevated spectator experiences. Similar to the playoffs, Elite+ events will be four-round tournaments, with a cut after round three, and will deliver more DGPT Points. The first-ever Elite+ events are the Portland Open and the Ledgestone Open. “We look to continue to grow our slate of Elite+ events in the future,” said Spring. “We’re excited to use these events as an opportunity put more external eyes on our players, the Tour, and most importantly, the sport as a whole.”

After its inaugural year, the DGPT playoffs will return, with Discraft’s Great Lakes Open and the MVP Open at Maple hill carrying the playoff designation. These events will meet similar added cash standards of Elite+ events and will continue to play a significant role in determining which players qualify for the Tour Championship. The Tour Championship is considered a part of the playoffs but will not award any points.

“We’ve got another exciting end of the season lined up with the PDGA Pro World Championships at Smugglers’ Notch Resort happening in concert with the 2023 playoff events,” said Spring. “With PDGA Pro Majors maintaining heavyweight status on the 2023 points scale, the last three months of next year’s season will provide ample opportunities for movement around the cut line for the Tour Championship.”

More details on 2023 playoff events will be released in the coming months.

DGPT Silver Events (formally referred to as the Silver Series ) will also return in 2023 and award more tour points than in previous seasons. With two events already on the schedule as 2022-2023 wrap-around season tournaments, 2023 will see the addition of at least five Silver Events, with several events making their debut on the Pro Tour schedule for a total of seven stops so far. The Tour expects to announce additions to the 2023 Silver Event schedule at a later date.

Before the official start of the 2023 season, the DGPT will host its third annual All-Star event in mid-February. The event will return to Tucson, Arizona.

The 2023 points system and the details on the 2023 & 2024 Tour Card qualification procedures will be announced in the coming weeks and months.

2024 CJ Cup Byron Nelson Full Field: Jordan Spieth Headlines in Texas

Four players in the top 30 are playing one week before a signature event and two weeks before the PGA Championship.

  • Author: John Schwarb

The PGA Tour rolls on to one of its most historic events, albeit one that won’t exactly have a historically strong field.

The CJ Cup Byron Nelson is an interesting Tour amalgam of a name, with the CJ Cup originally having been a Tour stop in South Korea before moving back to the U.S. Rory McIlroy won the last two, in 2021 in Las Vegas and 2022 in South Carolina. But after AT&T discontinued its sponsorship following the 2023 event (AT&T continues to sponsor the Pebble Beach Pro-Am), the CJ Cup name found a new home.

Byron Nelson needs no introduction. The legendary Texan ranks sixth all-time in Tour wins with 52, including 11 in a row in 1945. In 1944 he won the Texas Victory Open, which in 1968 became the Byron Nelson Golf Classic. His name has been affixed to the Dallas-area stop ever since, and for years he greeted the winner off the 18th green. He died in 2006 at age 94.

His namesake event continues but in a compromised part of the Tour schedule. The second week of April of course was the Masters and immediately after that was the signature event RBC Heritage. Next week’s Wells Fargo Championship is another signature event, followed by the PGA Championship.

All that means there aren’t many household names teeing it up at TPC Craig Ranch. Native Texan Jordan Spieth is the highest-ranked player in the world rankings at No. 20, and Jason Day, Tom Kim and Will Zalatoris are the only players inside the top 30.

But valuable FedEx Cup points and a $9.5 million purse are up for grabs for the field of 156, plus the ability to play one’s way into Wells Fargo and the season’s second major.

Here’s the full field for the CJ Cup Byron Nelson from the PGA Tour. Keep an eye on this Twitter post all week for any field adjustments.

Pro Tour 25th Anniversary: Everything You Need to Know

Pro Tour 25th Anniversary is in the books, and it was one of the most entertaining Pro Tours we've had in a long time, thanks to the team format featuring sweet decks from Standard, Modern, and Legacy. Normally, we wrap up a Pro Tour with a by-the-numbers article breaking down which decks performed best at the tournament, but this is impossible for a team event (since records are recorded by team wins and losses, rather than as wins and losses by individual players).

However, we do have some good news: Wizards published every single deck to show up at Pro Tour 25th Anniversary, so rather than delving deep into the numbers, today we're going to look at some of the most interesting decks and cards to show up in each format; then, we'll wrap things up with a list of the most played cards (in each format) at the event! If you want to jump straight to the decklists (there's almost 500 decks!), be sure to check out the  Pro Tour 25th Anniversary tournament page .

its pro tour

One of the big conversations heading into the Pro Tour was about the Core Set 2019 buy-a-box promo Nexus of Fate , with people discussing the extra-turn spell in both control and ramp strategies, which left people wondering if the card would show up on Magic 's biggest stage. The answer is yes, but not in the way most people expected. Six players shows up with Nexus of Fate in Standard, and each was playing a version of Turbo Fog, looking to slow down the game with Haze of Pollen and Root Snare  and draw a bunch of cards with Teferi, Hero of Dominaria , Search for Azcanta , and Karn, Scion of Urza , before eventually taking an essentially infinite number of turns with Nexus of Fate by repeatedly finding it with all of the card draw after it shuffles back into the library. Then, it wins somehow, either by making a bunch of tokens with Karn, Scion of Urza or by ultimating Teferi, Hero of Dominaria and exiling away all of the opponent's permanents (there was even a flawless victory on camera)!

As a result, Nexus of Fate itself had an interesting week. First, Wizards decided to release a bunch more copies on Magic Online by upping the rate that it appeared in Treasure Chests, after the mythic hit $70 in digital form. Then, as a result of the Pro Tour results, the promo more than doubled in paper, from about $20 a few days ago to over $40 today. This is especially problematic because unlike normal mythics, people can't just open more packs of Core Set 2019 to find copies to drive down the price. It will be interesting to see what happens in coming weeks—if the Turbo Fog deck proves to be real, then prices of Nexus of Fate could get even more absurd.

While the team format of Pro Tour 25th Anniversary makes it hard to know exactly how well any individual deck performed at the event, some of the players on the deck reported having great records (winning around 80% of their matches). This is unsurprising, at least in some ways, since around 60% of the Standard metagame was either red- or green-based aggro, and neither of those decks has any realistic chance of beating a Fog every turn, nor can they stop the infinite-turn combo with something like a Negate or Disallow . If your local metagame is overflowing with red and green aggro decks, keep Turbo Fog in mind—it might be the perfect choice. On the other hand, things become tougher if everyone is playing control decks (although we saw some sideboard Carnage Tyrant s serving as a trump card against control.

Steel Leaf Champion and Goblin Chainwhirler

its pro tour

While Turbo Fog was the breakout deck at Pro Tour 25th Anniversary, it's also true that RB Aggro and Mono-Green Stompy are still at the top of the Standard metagame. RB Aggro made up a massive 40% of the metagame at the tournament, and this doesn't include a couple of other Goblin Chainwhirler decks with a smattering of players (like Grixis and Mono-Red Aggro). Meanwhile, Mono-Green Stompy made up nearly 20% of the metagame, and we certainly saw some massive green creatures like Steel Leaf Champion and Ghalta, Primal Hunger smashing face over the weekend.

The big question moving forward is what the future holds for these decks. Turbo Fog appears to be a natural predator, but the metagame could adjust, with more control decks to fight against Turbo Fog (assuming it becomes popular), which would then allow the aggro decks to remain near the top of the format by sneaking in under the control decks. Over the mid-term, Mono-Green Stompy is in a much better position than RB Aggro, simply because RB Aggro loses most of its best cards at rotation while Mono-Green Stompy doesn't lose much of anything. Regardless, for the short term, you should still expect a heavy dose of RB Aggro and Mono-Green Stompy at your local events and on Magic Online .

Beyond Turbo Fog, the other breakout deck Standard deck at the Pro Tour was Aetherflux Storm. While the deck has been floating around on the fringes of the format for a while now, the printing of Sai, Master Thopterist gave the archetype a huge boost in power. Rather than simply relying on the Aetherflux Reservoir / Paradoxical Outcome storm kill, the deck now has a legitimate backup plan of playing Sai, Master Thopterist , playing a bunch of random artifacts to make Thopter tokens, and then either beating down with 1/1 fliers or by playing a Karn, Scion of Urza to make some massive construct tokens. Of course, this is another short-term deck, since many of the pieces rotate (although it's possible that Sai, Master Thopterist , Karn, Scion of Urza , and Tezzeret, Artifice Master could form a powerful artifact-based beatdown deck after rotation— we did see a couple of players at the Pro Tour drop Aetherflux Reservoir altogether and just beat down ), but the deck isn't too expensive to put together (outside of Karn), and it's rare that true combo decks are competitive in Standard, so if you get a chance, give it a shot before rotation—it's super fun, and Pro Tour 25th Anniversary showed that the deck is fairly competitive as well!

Cool Standard Decks

Since the metagame was so dominated by RB Aggro and Mono-Green Stompy, there weren't a ton of off-the-wall Standard decks that showed up at Pro Tour 25th Anniversary, but there were a handful of interesting lists.

its pro tour

In Modern, the breakout deck of Pro Tour 25th Anniversary was pretty clearly RB Vengevine. You might remember a deck called Bridgevine making the rounds a few months ago and offering some amazingly fast kills (along with a ton of inconsistency) based on getting Bridge from Below and Vengevine into the graveyard, casting a bunch of Walking Ballista s and Hangarback Walker s for zero mana (so they die when they enter the battlefield) to make a bunch of 2/2 Zombies with Bridge from Below , and returning Vengevine s to the battlefield.

RB Vengevine is basically Bridgevine but all grown up, thanks to a seemingly minor addition from Core Set 2019 : Stitcher's Supplier . While the uncommon doesn't look all that threatening, it's the perfect card for the deck, stocking the graveyard with Vengevine s and Bridge from Below s on Turn 1 while also allowing the deck a second line of attack in Gravecrawler thanks to the fact that Stitcher's Supplier is a Zombie. Throw in Viscera Seer to sacrifice the Gravecrawler , and you have some weird combos, like being able to get Vengevine back from the graveyard any time you want by casting Gravecrawler twice or making a 2/2 Zombie for each black mana you have available by sacrificing Gravecrawler to trigger Bridge from Below and then simply recasting it from the graveyard. The end result is a deck that's extremely fast and scary, often dumping multiple creatures on the battlefield on Turn 1 and potentially killing by Turn 2 or 3 with the help of Goblin Bushwhacker . It's possible that moving forward, RB Vengevine will take over for Hollow One as the graveyard-based creature-combo deck of choice.

Militia Bugler

its pro tour

While we didn't see many Core Set 2019 cards in Modern this weekend, Militia Bugler had a massive impact, showing up as a four-of in many Five-Color Humans lists. On camera, it was key to the tribal deck being able to fight through the sweepers and removal of various control and midrange decks, along with almost working like a tutor for find things like Kitesail Freebooter or Meddling Mage to help the Humans deck lock down combo strategies. While Militia Bugler was already being moved into Humans prior to the Pro Tour, its performance this weekend means that it should be a staple in the deck moving forward.

The other big story in Modern from Pro Tour 25th Anniversary was Ironworks Combo (often called KCI). Not only did the Eggs-like combo deck come in as the third-most-played Modern deck at the tournament, but it also managed to sneak into the Top 8 in the hands of Ben Stark. Throughout the course of the weekend, the deck looked pretty insane on camera, fighting through hate spells with ease and winning with some very long, intense combo turns. The metagame numbers show that the deck is a legitimate top-tier deck in the Modern format, while the Top 4 finish suggests that it's good. Combine this with the long, boring, annoying combo turns, and calls for a banning are on the rise. I'd be careful about buying into the deck before the next banned-and-restricted update—even some people who play the deck think that it should be banned, which is a pretty good sign that something could happen soon.

its pro tour

The bigger question is what would be banned. Banning Krark-Clan Ironworks would kill the deck outright, although some people argue that Ancient Stirrings would be a better option (although banning Ancient Stirrings would cause a lot of collateral damage, with decks like Tron, Eldrazi, Lantern, Hardened Scales, and even some builds of Affinity taking a hit). Speaking of bannings, there were also some rumblings about Faithless Looting being a potential target over the weekend, since the sorcery seems to be showing up in more and more decks while also allowing for fast graveyard-based combo kills, as seen in RB Vengevine, Grishoalbrand, Hollow One, and more. While it's certainly possible that nothing will change at the next banned-and-restricted update, at this point, the odds are likely in favor of something from Ironworks Combo being banned, with Faithless Looting being a dark horse candidate for a surprise banning.

its pro tour

The other big Core Set 2019 addition to Modern was Supreme Phantom to Spirit Tribal. Unfortunately, the Pro Tour didn't add much clarity to which Spirits build is best. While Bant Spirits was the most played build of Spirits, UW Spirits showed up as well (and because we don't have individual players' records, we have no idea which version performed best). Regardless, seeing the Spirits tribe show up as the seventh most played deck in the Modern format certainly legitimizes the strategy and is a huge testament to the power of Supreme Phantom .

Cool Modern Decks

In Modern, there weren't really any brand new decks at Pro Tour 25th Anniversary, but there were a handful of sweet one-of decks that don't show up all that often. Here they are!

its pro tour

I should start by saying that I'm far from a Legacy expert, so I'm going to try to avoid making any hot takes about a format that I don't understand all that well. Instead, we'll stick to some general observations and cool deck lists. Perhaps the biggest takeaway is that Modern staple Death's Shadow is a thing in Legacy as well, with the deck not only being one of the most played in the format but making it into the Top 4 as well. While Death's Shadow lists have shown up in Legacy before, the big innovation for the Pro Tour is Reanimate , which not only offers the deck another line of attack by reanimating a massive threat from the graveyard (like a Street Wraith you cycle on Turn 1) but also provides another way to lose life to grow Death's Shadow itself. Oh yeah, and the build that made the Top 4 was even playing Throne of Geth solely to add a counter to opponents' Chalice of the Void s (which are pretty unbeatable with just one counter).

Speaking of Modern decks showing up in Legacy, Eldrazi Stompy looks suspiciously like the deck that broke Modern after Pro Tour Oath of the Gatewatch a couple of years ago, but with even more two-mana lands in Ancient Tomb and City of Traitors . Otherwise, the deck plays almost exactly like the old Modern build, slamming huge Eldrazi turn after turn while also locking opponents out of the game with Chalice of the Void .

One of the big questions heading into the weekend is which decks would benefit most from the recent banning of Deathrite Shaman . The answer looks to be Temur Delver, which used to be a popular deck in the format but had been pretty much unplayable thanks to the rise of the one-mana planeswalker. At its heart, Temur Delver is a mana-denial tempo deck, looking to stick a threat or two, blow up opposing lands with Stifle and Wasteland , and ride the threat to a win before the opponent can draw out of the mana issues. The problem is that with Deathrite Shaman around, every land that goes to the graveyard is actually a source of mana, since the opponent can simply exile it with Deathrite Shaman to cast their spells. With Deathrite Shaman out of the way, it looks like Nimble Mongoose and Stifle are back to being a major part of the Legacy format.

Teferi, Hero of Dominaria

Cool legacy decks.

Legacy is a weird place with tons of fringe combos and unique cards. Here are some of the sweetest under-the-radar decks to show up at Pro Tour 25th Anniversary this weekend!

RBC Heritage: Final round suspended due to darkness, Monday finish underway at Harbour Town

Change Text Size

Updated: Monday, April 22, 8 a.m. ET: The final round of the RBC Heritage resumed at 8 a.m. ET.

Scheffler, chasing his fourth PGA TOUR win in five starts, authored a signature moment in the waning twilight Sunday, recovering from a hooked 4-iron second shot on the par-4 15th with a sorcerous wedge to 11 feet that he converted for an unlikely par to maintain a five-stroke lead over Wyndham Clark, Patrick Cantlay, J.T. Poston and Sahith Theegala.

Scheffler, chasing his fourth PGA TOUR win in five starts, stood 20 under for the tournament as the final round was suspended due to darkness at 7:45 p.m. Sunday, with nine players yet to complete the final round on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

This will be the second unscheduled Monday finish on the PGA TOUR this season and first since the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches, won by Austin Eckroat. The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, won by Wyndham Clark, was shortened to 54 holes after play was unable to be contested on Sunday and Monday.

Sunday’s play at Harbour Town was initially suspended at 4:28 p.m. due to lightning in the area. The final pairing of Scheffler and Sepp Straka had completed 11 holes at the time. Players were removed from the course, with the delay ultimately lasting 2 hours and 32 minutes before play resumed at 7 p.m.

Updated: Sunday, April 21, 7 p.m. ET: The final round of the RBC Heritage resumes at 7 p.m. ET.

Updated: Sunday, April 21, 6:30 p.m. ET: The final round of the RBC Heritage will resume at 7 p.m. ET.

Updated: Sunday, April 21, 5:40 p.m. ET: The final round of the RBC Heritage will not resume at 6 p.m. ET.

Updated: Sunday, April 21, 5:28 p.m. ET: The final round of the RBC Heritage is scheduled to resume at 6 p.m. ET.

Updated: Sunday, April 21, 4:28 p.m. ET: The RBC Heritage’s final round has been suspended due to lightning in the area, with the final groups playing the back nine Sunday at Harbour Town Golf Links.

Play was suspended at 4:28 p.m. local time, with leader Scottie Scheffler playing the 12th hole. Players were taken off the course at the time of suspension.

Scheffler began the final round at 16 under, one stroke clear of Sepp Straka, and the world No. 1 turned in 3-under 33 with a chip-in eagle at the par-5 second, a two-putt birdie at the par-5 fifth and seven pars. Scheffler stood 19 under, four strokes clear of the field at the time of delay. Seven players stood 15 under.

“We were hoping to play through this; we felt like we had another 25 minutes left of this heavy rain and were then going to get a break on the back end,” said Mark Dusbabek, the PGA TOUR’s senior director lead TV Rules & Video Analyst, on the CBS broadcast. “We had lightning unfortunately pop up 4 miles away; just suddenly caught us in, so we had to stop play for this. We’re going to see how things go here and make a decision.

"The course was not unplayable. It wasn't because of the rain. It was just because the lightning popped up."

The final round of the RBC Heritage is poised to deliver fans a fantastic finish, but that might not come without a little bit of weather late in the day.

After the first three rounds of tournament golf at Harbour Town Golf Links were accompanied by sunshine and temperatures ranging from the upper 70s into the mid-80s, Sunday could bring golfers a different challenge to navigate as the tournament comes to a close.

According to the forecast, a cold front will be slowly moving southward into the Hilton Head Island area on Sunday, increasing the chances for showers and a few thunderstorms as play gets into the early to mid-afternoon hours and continuing into the evening hours. Storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rainfall. Otherwise, Sunday morning will remain dry with temperatures warming into the mid to upper 70s before falling into the 60s late in the day. Light wind Sunday morning will increase out of the north 10-15 gusting to 20-25 mph late in the day.

The final pairing of the day, Scottie Scheffler and Sepp Straka, are set to tee off at 1:55 p.m. ET. Scheffler holds a one-stroke lead at 16-under.

OWGR Board announces ranking status for Europe's leading open access Clutch Pro Tour

T he Clutch Pro Tour, called the Mizuno Next Gen Series for promotional purposes, received its historic admission as an Eligible Tour to receive world ranking points on Thursday, April 25.

The news was announced by the Official World Golf Series on its social media profiles and website.

The process for the approval of the Clutch Pro Tour as one of the Eligible Tours to receive OWGR points was extended for 17 months. On this approval, OWGR Chairman Peter Dawson said (via website):

"This is a significant milestone for golf, and OWGR is deeply encouraged by the achievement and the continued efforts in developing the sport of golf in the United Kingdom.
"We look forward to watching the progress of the Clutch Pro Tour as it continues to play a key role in the development of players from the region."

The relevance of this fact is that the Clutch Pro Tour runs 54-hole tournaments, as does LIV Golf . What separates one from the other is that the Mizuno-sponsored circuit makes cuts after 36 holes and that all its players earn their card through various qualifying criteria.

This is not the first circuit operating 54-hole tournaments to be admitted as an OWGR Eligible Circuit. In 2023, the Liga de Golf Profesional Mexicana (Mexican Professional Golf Tour) received such status, even though its tournaments only consist of three rounds of 18 holes each.

What is the Clutch Pro Tour?

The Clutch Pro Tour is a third category circuit or mini tour emerged in the United Kingdom in 2019, and its first season was played in 2020. It has feeder tour status to the Challenge Tour, as its top three players earn full membership to the second-ranked circuit in Europe each year.

The Mizuno Next Gen Series is managed by the company Clutch Golf, which also has an amateur and a junior circuit. Moreover, the professional circuit has a second-tier circuit, which allows players to stay in action when they are unable to play on the main circuit, although only tournaments on the main circuit receive points toward the OWGR .

For the 2024 season, the main circuit has 17 tournaments (including the Tour Championship) and two unofficial tournaments scheduled. The second-tier circuit has 15 events scheduled. In both cases, the official calendar will run from May to September.

Columbia Says It’s ‘Grateful’ To Robert Kraft After Billionaire Pulled Funding

Columbia University said it’s “grateful” to Robert Kraft’s longstanding support for the university after the billionaire owner of the New England Patriots and Columbia alum went on a media tour criticizing the school Monday, following his decision to pull his financial support over its handling of pro-Palestinian protests on campus.

Columbia University spokesperson Samantha Slater told Forbes the university was “grateful to Mr. Kraft for his years of generosity and service to Columbia,” adding it’s a “time of crisis” for members of the university community.

The statement comes after Kraft announced he was “no longer confident” Columbia could protect its students and staff amid tense campus protests, and he was “not comfortable supporting the university until corrective action is taken.”

In an interview with CNN , Kraft clarified he was still planning to support the Center for Jewish Student Life on campus which bears his name, claiming the facility has been a “haven of safety” on campus amid concerns of antisemitic rhetoric while the campus has been embroiled in pro-Palestinian protests, which prompted police intervention and the cancellation of in-person classes.

Kraft claimed there was a lack of accountability for both student and faculty protesters, whom he criticized for wearing face coverings to avoid consequences for their actions, and said college campuses need to do more to help students feel safe on campus.

In an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News, Kraft said it “pains” him to see hate speech, particularly targeting Jewish people, on college campuses and he criticized tenured faculty members, alleging “instead of teaching how to think, they’re trying to tell our young people what they should think.”

Crucial Quote

“I just can’t believe in New York City at Columbia University, Jewish students are afraid to go to classes,” Kraft told CNN’s Jake Tapper on Monday.

Key Background

Campus protests since Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on Israel and Israel’s subsequent invasion of Gaza have prompted concern about antisemitism and Islamophobia on college campuses throughout the country, particularly prestigious Ivy League institutions like Columbia. Congressional inquiries into college campuses’ handling of those protests led to the resignations of several prominent academic leaders across the country, including Harvard University’s President Claudine Gay , who was criticized for her response to a question about antisemitism on campus at a congressional hearing last year. Columbia students made headlines last week as they set up an encampment protesting Israel’s actions in Gaza, leading to a confrontation with the New York Police Department. Similar protests have since been reported at other universities across the country, including Yale and New York University.

Forbes Valuation

Kraft is worth an estimated $11.1 billion, according to our valuation , making him the 180th-richest person in the world. He is a major donor to Columbia University, most notably donating $3 million to start construction of the Kraft Center in 2000 .

Hedge fund billionaire and fellow Columbia alum Leon Cooperman, who last October threatened to pull funding from the school, told CNN on Monday he was still willing to support Columbia, but only if the funds go to Columbia Business school, where he graduated. He said the students protesting on campus were “f—ing crazy” and “don’t understand what they’re doing or what they’re talking about,” but offered support for the school’s administration, claiming they were “now responding properly.”

A professional organization for disc golf is bringing its broadcast operation to Milwaukee's Historic West Mitchell Street

its pro tour

A professional organization for disc golf —  a sport whose players toss Frisbees at targets on outdoor courses — is bringing its broadcast operations to Milwaukee.

The Disc Golf Pro Tour plans to build a studio in the basement of the Mitchell Mall/Schuster Lofts building, 1020 W. Historic Mitchell St.

That's according to public records filed with the city Department of Neighborhood Services.

The department on Monday issued a building permit to remodel the space for the broadcast studio.

Also, the Disc Golf Pro Tour has applied for an occupancy permit for that site.

An operations plan filed with the city said the space will be used for "recording, producing and broadcasting web content focused on the sport of disc golf."

"This location will be used to broadcast commentary on the Professional Disc Golf Tour tournaments, record instructional videos and upload them to the website," it said.

The studio will have four employees.

"We chose Milwaukee because that's where most of our production team is located," said Seth Fendley, administrative and operations director at Disc Golf Pro Tour, based in Davenport, Florida.

While the Milwaukee area has disc golf courses, the 2021 pro tour had no stops in Wisconsin. The closest tour location to Milwaukee was Eureka, Illinois.

The pro tour's broadcast operations will be in a building that for several decades housed a Schuster's Department Store.

Its upper floors were later converted into apartments, with the street level housing the Mitchell Mall, a Caravel Autism Health clinic and other businesses.

The building was constructed in 1914, according to the Wisconsin Historical Society.
